See my other FAQs at: http://www.geocities.com/arcadia_shulato/sfc/index.html ----0. General Comments This file is best viewed using a fixed-width font. If you're looking for the answer to a specific question, but don't want to risk spoiling the rest of the game, check the "Frequently Asked Questions" section first to see if it's there. The numbers given to the adventures in the walkthrough section were added for the purpose of organizing this file. They have nothing to do with the game. The titles are the ones the game gives each adventure. You can see which adventures you've found/completed by picking the "Search" option (the bottom one) on the world map In the Weapon/Armor lists, the "Element" column lists the elemental damage it causes or defends against. The "Status" column lists the status change it causes or defends against. If a price is listed in the "Get" column, it can be bought in a store. Store stock is listed in the Locations section. If a "#" is listed, it is found during an adventure. ----I. General game advice This is a "non-linear" RPG. The "adventures" described in the walkthrough section can, for the most part, be done in any order (or not at all, if you want). Some of them have prerequisites, and they're listed with each adventure. You don't even have to complete an adventure all at once. You can leave an adventure, do something else, then pick up where you left off. For example, if you have an adventure that involves traveling across the island, you can stop and do other ones along the way, without affecting the progress of the first one. Save the game by talking to the storytellers in the bar or at the green circles in dungeons. Time does pass in this game, and some adventures can only be done at certain times of the year. Characters do get older, but it doesn't seem to effect them. If there's a maximum time limit, I haven't found it. "Spells" are cast using MP. "Techs" use HP. Both are learned by buying them at shops or finding them during an adventure (not by levelling-up). The level-up system in Soul and Sword is a bit different. Each stat has its own level, and grows depending on how the character behaves and fights. Each stat grows independantly of the others. The stats: Strength: Affects damage done by physical attacks and what weapons a character can use. Raise it by attacking. Skill: Affects hit rate and what Techs a character can use. Raise it by using Techs Speed: Affects speed in battle and ability to evade attacks. Raise it by using items. Stamina: Affects defense against physical attacks. Raise it by defending. Intelligence: Affects damage done by magic and defense against elemental attacks. Raise it by using magic. Willpower: Affects defense against status changes. Raise it by using magic or Techs. Note: The instruction booklet says how to raise the stats, but I haven't seen any change in levelling-up no matter how I had them fight. Status changes explanations: Poison: Marked by a bottle icon. HP gradually decreases. Paralysis: Marked by a zigzag ican. Unable to move. Curse: Marked by a skull icon. Unable to use spells. Broken Bone: Marked by a bone icon. Unable to use physical attacks. Sleep: Marked by Z's Darkness: Marked by a fog icon. Hit rate goes down. Confusion: Marked by a ? icon. Healing weapons, such as the Angellus, can be VERY useful, especially since there are NO healing spells in this game. Hitting a character with one will heal him/her. I'd recommend giving them to spellcaster characters who don't do much damage with ordinary weapons. If you're short on GP, you can borrow money at the Moneylenders. However, you'd better pay the money back by the end of the year... or else... Some weapons/armors have effects that aren't listed. The stats screen for them just has a "???". I've managed to figure out what some are, but not all. ----II. Characters: ---A. Rick (or what you name him) Birthday: You pick Age: 16 Height: 170 cm Rick is a young adventurer who came to Vulcannon to test his strength. He is kind-hearted and trusting and likes to help people. ---B. Runna Birthday: August 11 Age: 15 Height: 162 cm Runna is another adventurer who came to Vulcannon looking for thrills. Despite being an excellent warrior, she is also very lady-like and feminine. ---C. Balmore Birthday: October 30 Age: 18 Height: 207 cm Balmore grew up on Vulcannon in the town of Holft. He's a tough- guy street punk who like to fight. He has more brawn than brain. He is a strong fighter but can't use magic. ---D. Charan and Poran Birthday: Unknown Age: Unknown Height 115 cm Charan and Poran are twin sisters. They are always cheerful and bubbly. Charan (with one ponytail) is a good spellcaster, and Poran (with two ponytails) is a good fighter. No one, not even them, know where they came from. Incidentally, their names are a pun. "Charanporan" is japanese slang for "airheaded" or "confused". ---E. Lukiman Birthday: February 14 Age: 80 Height: 165 cm Lukiman is a powerful magician. However, he is weak-willed and cowardly, and lives in fear of his wife, a sorceress even more powerful than him. If left to his own devices, he will run away from a battle. ----III. Locations list At the start of the game, only the harbor and Holft are available on the map. Various events will add more locations. Locations can be added by talking to people. Sometimes you'll find one by accident. Unknown locations are marked with a red circle. Moving between locations takes a fixed amount of time, which is displayed when choosing where to go. For a complete map, see http://www.geocities.com/arcadia_shulato/sfc/ssmap.jpg or possibly check Gamefaqs. The numbers by the lines indicate how many days the journey takes. ---Amultai: How to find: Travel to Lachwald from the Maneating Desert Adjacent locations: Maneating Desert, Lachwald Stores: Inn: 50G Moneylender Medicine store: Well10, AllWell, Mill10, Mill30, Mill50, Elixir, Sohma, Medi Weapon store: Fang Sword, Arlaune Sword, Battle Axe, Carmine Spear, Veno Spear, Chaos Claw, Para Claw, Dancing Bow, Diana Bow, Shadowgetter Armor store: Medusa Helm, GoldHelm, Steel Helm, Star Ring, Rubber Mail, Underground, Wood Mail, Ice Mail, Medusa Brace, Medusa Robe, Silver Glove, Trance Glove, Wind Boots, Safety Boots, Damask Boots, Medusa Boots Tech store: Blody Slam, Air Ripper, Rush, Fireworks, Ichimonji, Power Crush, Berserk, Attack Circle, Cheer, Steel, Cry, Venoball, Charm, Pitfall, Critical, Blind, Lullaby, Flute, Backup, Sticky, Force, Barrier ---Bannock: How to find: Talk to a man in Holft's bar Adjacent locations: Murdoch Stores: Inn: 70G Moneylender Weapon store: Iron Sword, Bastard, Great Sword, Tomahawk, Steel Axe, Staff, Orc Rod, Mace Armor Store: Snake Comb, Gold Ribbon, Psycho Ribbon, Travel Clothes, Asbestos Suit, Cloak, Rubber Cloak, Grand Cloak, Air Robe, Hell Sandals, High Heels, Knit Boots, Damask Sandals, Platinum Boots Items store: Psi Medal, Cocoon, Blaze Scale, Blizza Scale, Loa Scale, Hurric Scale, Mandragora, Naky Gas, Quick Nuts, Bomb, Wonder Guide, Moonstone, Aquamarine, Matinee Magic Store: Flare, Blaze, Blazer, Froze, Frozia, Blizzard, Voltia, Crack, Loa, Muddia, Gran, Sands, Galia, Hurric, Destro, Naky, Snail, Calm, Defen, Feeb, Gloomia, Abilit Other locations: Arena (for the Tournament, adventure #14) ---Collector's House: How to find: Talk to a man in Holft's bar Adjacent locations: Holft ---Daman How to find: Talk to a woman in Nova Adjacent locations: Mount Garolyn, Felm, Goltz Stores: Inn: 50G (Free after adventure #24) Armor store: Cap, Molybdenum Helm, Travel Clothes, Asbestos Suit, Leather Mail, Leather Gloves, Gloves, Sandals, Boots, Iron Boots Other locations: Ferry to Skull island (after completing adventure #24) ---Dibaran Forest How to find: Talk to a man in Kinslow ---Felm: How to find: Travel to Pinas from Daman, or talk to a woman in Pinas Adjacent locations: Daman, Pinas Stores: Inn: 80G Pub Moneylender Item store: Psi Medal, Cocoon, Blaze Scale, Blizza Scale, Loa Scale, Hurric Scale, Mandragora, Naky Gas, Quick Nuts, Bomb, Princess, Matinee Magic Store: Flay, Flare, Blaze, Blazer, Burn, Freeze, Froze, Frozia, Blizzard, Blizzardam, Volt, Voltia, Crack, Loa, Muddy, Muddia, Gran, Sands, Sander, Gale, Galia, Hurric, Hurricdia, Destro, Drowse, Spect, Darkne, Naky, Snail, Calm, Venom, Numb, Spelio, Defen, Solid, Feeb, Gloomy, Abilit Other locations: Lukiman's House (for adventure #6) --Fulsonkohl How to find: Talk to a man in Istra Adjacent locations: Jacquin, Istra, New Chabra Stores: Moneylender Item store: Magic Compass, Blaze Scale, Blizza Scale, Loa Scale, Hurric Scale, Mandragora, Naky Gas, Quick Nuts, Bomb, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Spinner, Priness, Matinee Tech store: Body Slam, Air Ripper, Rush, Fireworks, Ichimonji, Power Crush, Berserk, Attack Circle, Cheer, Steel, Cry, Venoball, Charm, Pitfall, Critical, Blind, Lullaby, Flute, Backup, Sticky, Force, Barrier Other locations: Sheriff's Office (for adventure #9) ---Gelta Volcano How to find: Talk to Gumeia's mayor Adjacent locations: Gumeia ---Goltz How to find: Travel to Jacquin from Daman (Note: You won't be able to enter until you complete adventure #18) Adjacent locations: Daman, Jacquin Stores: Inn: 60G Pub Moneylender Weapon store: Flame Sword, Ice Blade, Gale Sword, Mega Axe, Great Axe, Veno Spear, Wind Spear, Powder Claw Armor store: Psycho Helm, Damask Helm, Bright Helm, Plate Mail, Hard Metal, Iridium Mail, Damask Glove, Shining Glove, Wwarrior Boots, Queen Boots Item store: Magic Compass, Cocoon, Blaze Scale, Blizza Scale, Loa Scale, Hurric Scale, Mandragora, Naky Gas, Quick Nuts, Bomb, Moonstone, Aquamarine Tech store: Body Slam, Air Ripper, Rush, Fireworks, Ichimonji, Power Crush, Berserk, Attack Circle, Cheer, Steel, Cry, Venoball, Charm, Pitfall, Critical, Blind, Lullaby, Flute, Backup, Sticky, Force, Barrier Other locations: Boat shop (Needed for Payne Lake adventure) ---Gumeia: How to find: Talk to a man in Holft's bar Adjacent locations: Pinas, Gelta Volcano, Melras Stores: Moneylender Other locations: Ice Cooler store (needed for adventure #5) ---Harbor: How to find: Automatic Adjacent locations: Holft This is where you start the game. That's just the order they're listed in the "Search" screen. For the most part, the adventures can be done in any order. Most can be started and completed as soon as their location becomes available, assuming the charactes are strong enough. Some are only available at certain times of the year, or after completing another adventure. Some require specific items to complete. #0. The beginning Location: Harbor When: Start of the game A ship arrives at Vulcannon Island, bringing more adventurers coming to seek their fortunes. One of them is Rick. He stops at the customs desk. Pick a name for yourself. Press the A button to switch between hiragana and katakana. Next, pick a birthday. This will serve as the starting date of the game. The customs agents tells you about the village of Holft to the east and gives you a map of the island. ---#1: The Town Troublemaker Location: Holft When: Before leaving Holft Balmore's house if on the left side of town. Talk to Balmore's father there. He asks you to do something about his wild, incorrigible son. Balmore is in the bar. He and his friends have taken over the place, since everyone else is too afraid of them to enter. When you tell the owner you want to speak to Balmore, he reluctantly lets you in. Balmore is on the second floor, drinking. He doesn't want to talk to you, and he and his friends attack. After you defeat them, Balmore knocks some barrels over and attacks again. Defeat him again. He gives in and agrees to go home. Talk to the bar owner and he'll give you 1000G as a reward. Talk to Balmore's father. He asks you to take Balmore with you. He'll give you 500G and an Iron Sword. After this, the bar will open again, and you can talk to the patrons. ---#2: Ghosts in the School Location: Holft When: Before leaving Holft Some people in Holft report seeing ghosts in the school. The school is on the left side of town. When you go there, you'll have a choice of which room to go. At first, there's just the staff room. The teacher there claims he's there alone and tells you to leave and don't bother going to the classroom. Go to the classroom next. A boy is there. He says school is over and everyone has left. He suggests you check the principal's office. Go to the principal's office. The principal tells you that the gymnasium is haunted and he wants to hire you to get rid of the ghosts. He'd already sent another adventurer, a girl, in after them, but she hasn't come out. He gives you the key to the gymnasium. Enter the gymnasium. You can find money in various random places on the floor. There's a door in the NE corner leading to a storeroom where you can save the game. There is a girl surrounded by flames on the stage. The ghosts have possessed her, and they try to possess you, too. The girl and ghosts attack you. After you defeat her, the teacher you met earlier runs it. The ghosts were part of an experiment of his. He'd been using the gym for experiments summoning ghosts after everyone went home. Now you've ruined his experiment. He attacks. After you defeat him, check on the girl. She's the other adventurer the principal sent to get rid of the ghosts. She introduces herself as Runna. She decides to go with you. You take the teacher to the principal. He gives you 1000G as a reward. You tell him about the boy you saw in the classroom. He says it sounds like a boy who died in an accident 3 years ago. He insists that you must be mistaken. He takes back the gym key and goes inside. After he leaves, the boy comes to see you. He is the ghost of the boy who died. He was summoned there by the teacher's experiments, but now he can go back to the underworld. Items in gymnasium: Well30, Bomb ---#3. Drinking Contest in Dibaran Location: Dibaran Forest When: Anytime A family of woodcutters live in Dibaran Forest, near Kinslow. They claim to be able to out-drink anyone. Balmore isn't about to let anyone out-drink him! On the first floor of the woodcutters' house, you meet Barabara, the youngest brother. Balmore demands to see Dibaran, but Barabara challenges him first. You can have anyone challenge Barabara, but Balmore is probably the best choice, since he has the most HP (and is the only one likely to drink that much alcohol). The contest begins. There's no strategy involved. Each fighter takes turns drinking until someone keels over. On the next floor is Baranbaran, the middle brother. Once again, the battle is on. Drink until Baranbaran passes out. Next, you meet Dibaran himself. More booze! After Dibaran passes out, Balmore is officially the biggest drunk in the world :). Items to find: Cloak, Well50 ---#4: The Collector's Wish Location: Collector's House When: Anytime Bentley, a rich collector, lives east of Holft. He will ask you to find some rare items for him. If you bring them to him, he'll give you a reward. At first, as a test of your honesty, he'll ask you to bring him a Wonder Guide and give you 1000G for expenses and tell you to be back within 3 days. Balmore wants to take the money and run. You have the choice to run away with the money or be honest. If you run, you won't be able to complete the adventure. Go to Holft and buy a Wonder Guide for 500G, then return to the Collector's House. Since you were honest, he decides he can trust you and asks you to find some more items for him: The items: Where to find: 1. Elixir..............Buy in Sultan 2. Fire Feather........Find during adventure #5 3. Choker..............Find during adventure #8 or buy during adventure #31 4. Bische..............Find in Longoon Forest AFTER completing adventure #19 or buy during adventure #31 5. Elixir-DX...........Buy during adventure #12 After you bring him all the items, his collections is complete, and he gives you a reward of 300000G! ---#5. Exterminate the Firebird Location: Gelta Volcano When: Anytime Items needed: Ice Cooler You can buy an Ice Cooler in Gumeia for 10000G A fire-eating bird has settled in the Gelta Volcano, making life difficult for the inhabitants of Gumeia. The mayor has offered a reward to anyone who can get rid of the bird. Go up the mountain and into the volcano. If you don't have the Ice Cooler, it will be too hot to enter, and you'll have to turn back. The firebird is on the 3rd floor of the volcano. Do NOT use fire magic- it heals the bird. Wind magic has no effect. After you defeat the bird, you find 3 Fire Feathers. Go to Gumeia and see the mayor. At first, he doesn't want to believe you did it. He's a cheapskate and doesn't want to part with the reward. He asks for proof. You show him the Fire Feathers. He agrees to give you the reward (20000G!) if you give him one of the feathers. Items to find: Well50, Blizza Scale, Orc Rod, Mill50, Calcium, Iron Helm, High Heels, Opera, Carnelian, Fire Feather (3) ---#6: The Magic Duel Location: Felm When: Anytime (but I'd wait until after you get Charan and Poran) Lukiman lives in the house in the NW corner of Felm. A sign by the door says that if anyone an beat him using only magic, he'll give them 6000G. For the fight, he'll change into 5 different monsters. You can only use magic, no weapons or items. This means Balmore won't be fighting this time, since he can't use magic. If you win, he'll give you 6000G, and ask you a favor. He used to live with wife, Pumpkin, a powerful sorceress. One day, they had a fight, and she threw him out. He wants to return home, but isn't brave enough to talk to Pumpkin himself. He wants you to go talk to her and convince her to let him come back. He gives you the key to the mansion. ---#7. Sorceress Mansion Location: Sorceress Mansion When: After completing adventure #6 Items needed: Mansion Key Get the Mansion Key from Lukiman after you win his challenge. Pumpkin's mansion is near Melras. Don't bother with the chests, yet. Some of them have monsters inside, and the ones that don't are locked. Pumpkin is on the top floor. She thinks you're thieves, and attacks. She's VERY hard to beat, unless you have a lot of HP, but it doesn't matter whether you win or not. She demands to know how you got in. You tell her that Lukiman sent you and he wants to come home. She laughs and says that Lukiman left on his own. He was always something of a coward. The fact that he sent you instead of coming himself proves that he still is. She asks you to go get Lukiman. She also uses her magic to raise all your levels by 1 and heal you. Go back to Felm and talk to Lukiman. He's still afraid to face Pumpkin alone and asks you to come with him. If you agree, he takes down the sign advertising his magic challenge, and puts a notice on his door saying that he's away. He hesitates about going immediately back to Pumpkin's house, but Runna insists they go immediately. As you might expect, Pumpkin is mad when she sees that Lukiman brought you again. She had been prepared to forgive him if he'd had the courage to come back alone, but now he still needs to grow a backbone. Since you're adventurers, she asks you to take Lukiman along on your adventures and maybe help him gain some courage. Lukiman seems anxious to go with you and leave again. As thanks, Pumpkin says you can use the stuff in the treasure chests around the house (although Lukiman says the stuff is his!) Items to find: Elixir, Hurric Scale, Calcium, Convert spell, Crystal Rod ---#8. Mirror Castle Location: Mirror Castle When: Anytime Items needed: 10000G There are two chests in front of the castle. Open one, and a man rushes out to stop you. He's an architect, and the castle is his work. He built is as a amusement park/tourist attraction, but it's not quite finished. He offers to let you inside to test it for him if you'll give him 10000G. Once inside, you can keep any treasures you find. If you want to leave, talk to the architect. However, if you want to go in again, you'll have to pay another 10000G. Be on the lookout for mirrors that don't cast a reflection. They hide secret passages. There are mechanical dolls playing the king and queen on the first floor, but they're not finished. If you talk to them, they'll malfunction and the architect will yell at you. First, go to the right side and flip the switch. You'll need to ride the flying carpet over the wall (if the carpet isn't there, step on the platform and it will come.). Then, go the left side and flip the switch there. There should be two chests there. Go back to the right side and go up the stairs. Find a secret passage through one of the mirrors and flip the switch behind it. Another secret passage leads to the ballroom. There is a mechanical dancefloor and orchestra on the second floor. It seems to work, but you'll get yelled at, anyway. After dancing, go through the secret passage in the upper right corner. Flip the switch at the end of the corridor, then go back to the ballroom. One of the walls is gone, and you'll be able to get to another switch. That switch removes one of the walls on the left side, revealing another switch and stairs leading down. Flip the switch. Go down the stairs and through the door to the left. Go through one of the mirrors to get to the chest. Now go back out and through the other door. Go through the mirrors into the bedroom. You can sleep in one of the beds, but the architect will yell at you for messing up the exhibit. Go back to the ballroom. The wall in the lower right corner is now gone, and there is a secret passage leading to some stairs. Go down the stairs, and through the door to the right. There is a chest containing a Bastard. Go through the other door. Flip the switch and go through the secret passage on the left side of the room. Go through another passage to get the Lucky Shot tech. Go back through the ballroom to the bedroom. The mirror that led to the bedroom is gone, and you can now get to the stairs. Watch out for traps in the floor. Tiles that don't cast a reflection as actually trap doors. There is a secret passage in the corner to the right on the stairs. Go through it and to the stairs in the upper right corner. Drop down a hole near the stair to get to the chest you passed earlier. Drop down another hole to get the ballroom. Go back up the stairs to the third floor. There's a dungeon on the third floor. If you go in, you'll be trapped, and the architect will have to come let you out. Go to the lower left corner and flip the switch. Go outside to find a Choker. Then go to the upper left corner of the room. There will be a new mirror there, with a secret passage leading to a secret room. Watch out for traps on the floor! Once you get the last chest, you go see the architect. He is disappointed that you were able to find them all. He thought that no one would ever get them, and he'd be able to scam a lot of money from people looking for the treasure. Now he'll have to make do with just an ordinary tourist trap :). If you go to the Mirror Castle after completing this adventure, there will be plenty of tourists lined up to see the castle, and the architect is only charging them 10G to go in. You can go in, too, if you want. Items to find: Medi, Blood Mail, Psycho Ribbon, Bastard, Lucky Shot tech, Mist Mail, Choker, Malachite ---#9: Bounty Hunters Location: Fulsonkohl When: Anytime Talk to the Sheriff in the northern house. A prisoner has escaped, and he is handing out wanted posters offering a reward. His name is Gortes Buzzy, and he likes to hang out in pubs. Check the wanted poster for more information. The poster describes his strange accent, and his penchant for dressing in womens' clothing. After you get the poster, new people will appear in the pubs. When you see one, question him to see if he's Gortes. If you think the person is Gortes, pick the second option from the bottom to accuse him. If you're wrong, you'll lose your chance to find Gortes and collect the reward money. Where the real Gortes appears is apparently random. Check the FAQ section if you want to know exactly what to look for. If you have the right man, he'll get rid of his disguise and attack. If you win, the sheriff will come and take Buzzy and give you the 12000G reward. ---#10. The Neverending Staircase Location: Murdoch When: Anytime Talk to Iwan on the left side of town. He tells you that something happened to his basement. It's vanished. The stairs that used to lead to the basement now lead nowhere. They just keep going and going, seemingly forever. He asks you to investigate the stairs. Go into the basement and down the stairs... and down... and down. Just keep going. After a while, Balmore will start complaining about how long it's taking. Keep going. Eventually, Balmore will lose his temper and start destroying things. This brings Muma, the demon responsible for the disappearance of Iwan's basement, out of hiding. After defeating Muma, you find yourself in Iwan's basement. As a reward, Iwan offers you one of the chests. Pick whichever one you want. ---#11: Charan and Poran Location: Murdoch and Pinas When: Anytime Talk to Yancha, on the right side of town. She introduces you to two twins, Charan and Poran, and asks you to take them to her aunt Vivian's house in Pinas. She says aunt lives in a house with a green roof. Go to Pinas. The house with the green roof is on the right side. Vivian answers the door, but she claims not to know anyone names Yancha. Charan and Poran don't recognize Vivian, either. Maybe you'd better see Yancha again, and make sure you heard right. GO back to Yancha's house in Murdoch. There's a note left on the door: "I'm sorry to trick you. I thought it would be safe to leave Charan and Poran with you. I'm going on a journey to reclaim my youth. Yancha." Yancha dumped the kids on you and ran off! You can't exactly leave them here alone, so take them with you. ---#12. Plate Hunt Location: Sultan When: 11/11 to 11/20 The Sultan Festival occurs in the town of Sultan every year. It has some nice shops that carry some hard-to-find items: Weapon shop: Bastard, Damascus, Tomahawk, Carmine Spear, Orc Rod, Adamant Rod, Tiger Claw, Dancing Bow Medicine Shop: Well50, AllMill, Elixir, Amurita, Sohma, Medi, Calcium, Cross, Elixir-DX, Elixir-SP The main attraction of the festival is the Plate Hunt game. It costs 100G to enter. Find the plates in the maze inside, and trade them for prize money. Different plates are worth different amounts. There are 6 iron plates (50G), 3 silver plates (200G), and 1 gold plate (3000G). You can do the Plate Hunt as many times as you want, but the plates are in different places every time. I should note that the plant monsters in the plate maze are called Audreys. Maybe someone at Zamuse was a Roger Corman fan :). ---#13: Miss Murdoch Contest Location: Murdoch When: 4/10 to 5/10 Go to the theater between 4/10 and 5/10 to register to have Runna register for the contest. Balmore doesn't think Runna is ladylike enough to win a beauty contest, but we'll see... The attendant takes Runna inside for the preliminary contest. Later, she comes back out. She made it into the finals! Now you'll just have to wait until 5/10 for the contest. You can stay at the inn for free until then. On 5/10, the attendant comes to get Runna. Everyone else heads to the theater to cheer her on. The announcer introduces all the candidates. After everyone has gone, the announcer gives the rules. The candidates strike poses, and people cast votes. Whoever has the most votes after 10 rounds wins. When Runna's turn comes, you'll have a choice of "Jump", "Kiss", "Turn", "Pose" or "Daring Pose". I THINK the scores are random, but I'm not entirely sure. After 10 rounds, the scores are tallied up. Both times I tried, Runna won, so I don't know if it's possible for her to lose. As a prize, you get 3000G and a Dress. ---#14: Warrior Tournament Location: Bannock When: 8/1 to 9/1 (but probably not your first year there) Go to the arena in Bannock between 8/1 and 9/1. Rick and Balmore decide to enter the tournament. Runna declines, since it's not ladylike. First, you have to see if you qualify. You'll each fight a different monster. You can use any weapons or magic you want, but you can't use items. If Rick wins, Balmore does, too. You can stay in the hotel for free until 9/1, the day of the main tournament. On 9/1, the attendant comes to get Rick and Balmore. Balmore is excited about the prize money, but the attendant tells him there is no money. The only prize is the fame of having won. The tournament begins. In all, 6 fighters have passed the qualifying round. Like before, you can use magic and weapons, but no items. However, you're healed between each round. If you lose, the game doesn't end, but you'll have to wait until next year to try again. The first fight is Rick vs. Gomora the Wild Horse. He has no particular weakness, but doesn't use magic. The next fight is Rick vs. Leora the Queen Bee. She uses a lot of electricity and fire spells, so equip an Opera or Princess if you have it. The third round is Rick vs. Balmore! He's pretty tough. And finally, the last battle. Rick Vs. Kilmer the Mage Knight. After you beat him, you've won the tournament! The announcer is surprised that someone so young could win. Balmore claims he held back and let you win :). After the tournament, Kilmer comes to see you. He has something to give you. It's a map that supposedly leads to a great treasure. There's supposed to be an immortal guardian guarding the entrance to the cave. He won the map from its previous owner, and since you beat him, he's giving it to you. ---#15. Training the Wimpy Son Locations: Istra When: After winning the Warrior Tournament (adventure #14) Buffalo is the richest man in Istra. If you knock on his door before you win the tournament, he won't give you the time of day. Afterwards, he gushes and asks you for a favor. It seems that his son, Patello, is weak and unathletic. Buffalo built a tower in his house and filled it with monsters to give him a place to exercise, but the monster he brought were a bit too strong. He wants you to help train his son. To train him, have him fight with you inside the tower (if you have all six characters, you'll have to leave someone behind). There's a special door on the top floor of the tower. Once Patello's Strength level is over 25, he'll be able to open it. There are treasures behind the door, and he'll give you all of it if you'll help. Patello starts out with all his stats at 1, not even strong enough to use any equipment. Just have him defend while the others fight. Once Patello's Strength level is at 25, try the door on the top floor. He should be able to do it. There's a shortcut to the bottom floor behind the door. Go talk to Buffalo. He'll ask you if you want to continue training Patello. You can if you want. Otherwise, Buffalo and Patello bid you goodbye. Items to find: Queen Boots, Alraune Sword, Elixir, 5000G ---#16: The Ghostly Mask Location: Ke'Sel When: Anytime Items needed: Strange Mask You can find the Strange Mask on the Western Mountain during adventure #20. A long time ago, there was a sculptor named Taliman in Ke'Sel. When he died, two artifacts of his remained. One was the Baldur idol in the village shrine. The other was the Mandalo Mask. Taliman wanted to stay in this world so badly that he sealed his soul inside these two objects. It's said that when the two objects come together, evil spirits appear. Because of this, the elder hid the mask somewhere far away. Go to Ke'Sel's temple after finding the Strange Mask. You'll hear a voice calling for the mask. Go into the temple and examine the idol. The voice tells you to put the mask on. It says that whoever does will gain ultimate power. Rick and Runna are suspicious, but Balmore wants power too badly to care and puts on the mask. A light appears from the statue and sucks you in. You wake up in a room inside the idol. Balmore starts dancing around and mumbling. Runna tells him to knock it off. Balmore says that he can't help it. Something is making him do it. Go south out of the room. For now, Balmore won't be able to fight, as he's too busy dancing. Go through the cave until you find Taliman himself. He says he was killed by students of his who hated him, so he left his soul here inside the two artifacts. However, too much time has passed. Now he wants to go on to the underworld. To do that, he needed to reunite the two parts of his soul. And there's one more thing he needs- a sacrifice. And he intends to use use as his sacrifice. Fight off Taliman. Now that he's been defeated, he can go to the underworld. However, he's taking Balmore with him. The idol spits you out. You're free, but Balmore isn't moving. Maybe you should ask the village elder, Dantarl, for help. Go to the elder's house. When the guards see the mask, they take you to see the elder. Dantarl takes a look at Balmore and confirms that the mask he's wearing is the Mandalo Mask. He says that Balmore is dead, but he can be brought back. Right now, Balmore's soul is still between this world and the next. You have to go bring it back. However, if you make a mistake, you could die, too. Everyone agrees to go. Dantarl says he's helo you as thanks for ridding the temple of evil spirits. Dantarl chants a magic spell, and everyone's souls leave their bodies and go to the underworld's harbor. Soon, the boat to take everyone to the next world will come. In order to save Balmore, you have to find his soul and get it off the boat before you arrive at the next world. The boat comes and you get on. There's a pool of water on the second floor on the boat that will heal you. The souls are on the third floor. The guard refuses to let you in, so you'll have the defeat him. Balmore's soul is in the far corner. He's being awfully quiet. If only he were like that normally :). After you get Balmore's soul, hurry back to where you boarded the boat and jump off. Everyone's soul returns to their bodies. The Mandalo Mask crumbles. Balmore wakes up, and Dantarl tells him what happened. The elder says goodbye, and the guards escort you out of the house. Items to find: AllWell, AllMill, Mist Mail, Mandragora, Elixir, Sohma ---#17. Angel of the Lake Location: Payne Lake When: Anytime Items needed: Moonlight Boat, Iron Axe. You can buy a Moonlight Boat in Goltz after completing adventure #18. You can buy a Iron Axe in a weapon store. According to legend, a woodcutter was chopping trees on the island in the middle of Payne Lake when he dropped his iron axe into the lake. An angel appeared out of the lake and asked him "Did you drop a gold axe? Or was it a silver one?" The woodcutter was honest and said he dropped an iron axe. The angel appreciated his honesty and gave him both the gold and silver axes. Recently, there have been many whirlpools on the lake, and an ordinary boat would be smashed to bits if you tried to sail on it. But if you have a Moonlight Boat, it should be strong enough to withstand the whirlpools. Go to the south side of the lake and sail from the docks. Go through the maze of whirlpools to the island in the center. Read to sign at the south end. It says that this is the place where the woodcutter met the angel. Balmore wants to try it out. If you have a Iron Axe, Balmore throws it into the lake (he wants the gold and silver axes for himself, even though Rick bought the Iron Axe!). Sure enough, a beautiful angel appears from beneath the lake. The angel asks who threw the axe, and Balmore enthusiastically says it was him. The angel scolds him for using the lake as a garbage dump and gives the Iron Axe back. Maybe the legend was wrong? Balmore thinks she must have just forgotten, and throws the axe again. The angel comes back and tells him she has better things to do than pick up after him. Balmore asks about the gold and silver axes. The angel says she used to do that, but doesn't anymore. She seems troubled. Rick asks what's wrong. The angel says if you want to know what's wrong, to come to her house. You can get there through the pink whirlpool. Go back through the maze to the pink whirlpool, and go through it. You end up in the angels house, at the bottom of the lake. The angel tells you that the lake used to be peaceful, but that changed when a monster called Babrigon came and built has castle here. Babrigon cause the whirlpools to form. Since then, no one has been able to get close to the lake or his castle. Balmore asks if he can get the gold axe if he gets rid of Babrigon. The angel says yes. Before you can fight Babrigon, you need to find the angel robe that he stole. Once the angel has it, her powers will return to normal. She casts a spell so you can breathe underwater. If you want to rest, talk to her. If you want to go back to the surface, take the pink whirlpool outside the house. Go east and south from the house. There is a castle built from the rocks on the lake bottom. When you try to enter, a monster named Zargon stops you. Defeat him and enter the castle. Go up the stair on the right side. The angel's robe is on the top floor, guarded by another fish monster, Zubagon. When you get the robe, Balmore notes that it's rather skimpy. Naturally, he's in a hurry to get back so he can see the angel wearing it. On the left side is another treasure chest containing a Trident, guarded by Garagon. You can go get this now, or wait until you come back with the angel. Bring the robe back to the angel. Balmore asks if she's really going to wear it. The angel says yes, and asks if you want to watch her change. Resist the temptation and say no. Balmore wants to watch anyway, but the angel says she was joking and asks him to look away anyway. For the effort of resisting, Rick's and Balmore's Stamina levels go up! The angel says she'll go with you to defeat Babrigon. The door to his chamber is sealed with special magic that only she can break. If you have all 6 characters, you'll have to pick someone to leave behind. Balmore refuses to leave, and Runna insists on staying to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. Go back to Babrigon's castle and go up the center staircase. Babrigon's chamber is on the top floor. The angel opens the door. Babrigon attacks. He is immune to ice and fire, and casts ice spells. He is weak against Sleep attacks. After you defeat Gabrigon the first time, he calls Zargon, Garagon and Zubagon, and the four of them merge. This time, he has some powerful healing spells, in addition to what he had before. Balmore rejoices- the gold axe is within his grasp! You return to the angel's house. The party member you left behind rejoins you. Balmore keeps talking about the gold axe. The angel tells him to go throw the iron axe into the lake again, just like in the legend. The angel takes you back to the island. Go read the sign again. Balmore throws the axe into the lake. Just like in the legend, the angel appears and asks if he dropped a gold or silver axe. Balmore forgets his lines, and says he dropped both of them. The angel says he's supposed to answer that he only dropped an iron one, but she'll let it slide this time. However, she can't give him a gold or silver axe. They'd be valuable, but not much use as weapons. She gives him a Raijin Axe instead. It won't sell for much, but it's more powerful than the weapons you can buy in stores. Sail back to docks. Now that the whirlpools and monsters are gone, it's a short trip. Items to find: Fjord, ELixir, AllMill, Wind Spear, Mill50, AllWell, Bomb, Snake Rod, Trident, 8600G, Raijin Axe ---#18: Town of Liars Location: Goltz When: Anytime When you first enter Goltz, you meet a demon named Amanojaki who claims to be the ruler of Goltz. He challenges you to a game, and says you won't be able to enter Goltz unless you win. If you agree, he tells you to sign your name in the guest register. Runna notices some strange characters on it, but Amanojaki says not to worry about it. And now the rules: The twelve people standing in front of you are all liars, except one. You need to figure out who the one is. Unfortunately, if you guess wrong, you're stuck as Amanojaki's prisoners (shouldn't have signed the book!). Talk to the people. Here is what they say (from left to right): Top row: Ramon: "Konya has a sister." Ronya: "Amarinya is my daughter." Wamon: "Sonya and Honya are sisters." Amarinya: "Tamon is the tallest person here." Second row: Monya: "Everyone lies! I do, too!" Mamon: "I am not Honya's husband." Yonya: "Tonya has a husband." Yamon: "Honya has no brothers or sisters." Third row: Namon: "No one here is married." Nonya: "The man at the end of this row is the youngest." Hamon: "What Nonya says is true." Honya: "I'm an only child." Fourth row: Sonya: "Namon is the youngest one here." Samon: "Konya and Honya are sisters." Tonya: "I am married." Tamon: "I'm the tallest person here." Bottom row: Amon: "Mamon is not Honya's husband." Onya: "No one here has a brother." Kamon: "Ronya is Amarinya's mother." Konya: "I am not an only child." So how to solve it? Remember that only *one* person is telling the truth. For example, take Nonya and Hamon. If Nonya is telling the truth, Hamon is, too. Since they can't both be right, we can rule them both out. Find pairs and groups like this, and keep ruling people out until there's just one left. If you want to know exactly who it is, check the FAQ section. When you've figured it out, talk to Amanojaki. He'll ask if you're sure, then tell you to talk to the one you think is telling the truth. If you're wrong, Amanojaki throws you in the dungeon and the game ends. If you get it right, he reneges on his promise to let you into town, and attacks. To beat Amanojaki, you must ONLY use magic. Using physical attacks heals him. After Amanojaki is defeated, the townspeople come to their senses, and you can enter the town. Apparently, there used to be an Occult Shop there. Wamon bought a book on demon summoning, and summoned Amanojaki as an experiment. No one has any memory of what happened after that. ----#19. Breft's Thieves Location: Longoon Forest When: Anytime Thieves in Longoon Forest have been terrorizing nearby villages. Be a good adventurer and go show them what for! Soon after you enter the forest, you're ambushed by the thieves. They take everything- even your clothes! Runna is enraged (but Balmore doesn't seem to mind). Balmore suggests they go find some thieves and take their clothes, but Runna won't have it. She'd rather die than wear their stinky rags. (yes, I know it looks like they're still clothed during the battle scenes, but that's just an optical illusion. Trust me) You'll have to fight the rest of this adventure without your equipment or items. If you get injured, go to the spring west of the lair, or the thieves' kitchen to heal. The kitchen will only heal you up to 50% HP, however. Defeat the guards in front of the door and you can enter the lair. Runna's on a rampage! Your stolen stuff is in a chest on the second floor. Breft, the leader of the thieves, is on the third floor. Runna attacks him. He's pretty eay to defeat. He begs for forgiveness. You can forgive him or not; it doesn't seem to matter. Runna's still mad, and she attacks again. Repeat the process a few more times until Runna finishes stomping the guy into the ground. Breft gives you a Tiara and runs away. The rest of the missing stuff is in the chest behind him. Come back later, and the lair will be in ruins. There will be some new chests there. One will contain the Black Box, which you'll need for adventure #10. Items to find (after finishing the adventure): Black Box, Elixir, Bische ---#20. The Wyvern's Treasure Location: Western Mountain When: Anytime There are supposed to by Wyverns living in the mountains west of Istra, and legend has it that they guard a great treasure. One of the items you find on the outside of the mountain is the Strange Mask. Everyone says it gives them the creeps, and to leave it, but Rick insists on taking it. Go into the cave on top of the mountain. A little to the east of the door, there's a sign on the wall. You copy the writing onto a piece of paper: "The traveller heads north. As he was finished his work in the north, the sun rose in the east. The traveller headed toward the sun. When his work there was finished, the sun had begun to set, and darkness had begun to descend. The traveller chased after the sun, but it was no use. When his work there was done, he continued his aimless wandering. There, he was attacked by a blue shadow. After that, no one knows whether he lost all hope, or found a new hope." There are four wyvern statues in the cave, and you must defeat them all if you want to get to the treasure. However, you must defeat them in the right order, of the door will not open. The clue to defeating them is on the sign. If you want to know the order, check the FAQ section. If you defeated the wyverns in the right order, a staircase will appear between the statues. If not, reenter the cave and start over. The staircase leads to another chamber. In the center is a giant wyvern guarding a fancy treasure chest. You'll have to defeat him to get the treasure. In this fight, do NOT use magic, and use only non-elemental weapons. Any magic will heal him. If any of the characters have elemental weapons equiped, have them use techs instead of fighting normally. The chest contains the Twinkle Bead. Not exactly the mountain of jewels Balmore was expecting, but not bad. Items to find: Loupe, Strange Mask, Dragon Mail, Elixir-DX, AllWell, Twinkle Bead ---#21. The Maneating Trees Location: Tree Ocean When: Anytime Items needed: Magic Compass You can buy a Magic Compass in Goltz for 10000G after completing adventure #18. Many people have gone missing near the Tree Ocean. Supposedly, once you enter, you can never find your way out again. But if you have a Magic Compass, you can leave. There are lots of dancing trees, but they don't respond when you try to talk to them. Make your way to the giant tree in the middle of the forest. The tree talks to you. It is the Millenium Tree, the ruler of the forest. It asks you for a favor. 10 maneating demon trees have appeared in the Tree Ocean. It wants you to get rid of them. The demon trees are the dancing trees you saw earlier. After you've defeated them all, go see the Millenium Tree again. The tree reveals that the trees you just destroyed grew from its seeds. Several years ago, it was just an ordinary tree. But one day, a demon came to live in its branches. Since then, the demon has gradually possessed the rest of the tree's body. The tree wants you to kill the demon. It lowers a vine so you can climb to where the demon lives. The demon, Mafoe, live in the top of the tree. He's been using the Millenium Tree's sap to create the carnivorous trees. You demand that he leave the Millenium Tree, but he refuses. He attacks. After Mafoe is defeated, he says that he and the tree have merged over the years. Even if he dies, the Millenium Tree will remain, and will continue to make more demon trees. You climb down the tree. You're not sure how to tell the tree what Mafoe said, but it already knows. It has one last wish- burn what remains of him so there will be no more demon trees. After the tree is gone, you her its voice one last time, and something shining falls to the ground. Items to find: AllMill, Lapis Lazuli, Power Bow, Pure Oats ---#22. Legendary Treasure Locations: Mount Chomam When: After winning the Bannock Tournament (adventure #14) The map Kilmer gives you shows the locations of a treasure in Mount Chomam, near Luvas. The entrance to the cave is hidden behind some trees. Look for trees that you can walk through. The way to the treasure is guarded by a man in armor. You'll have to fight him and prove you're worthy to continue before he'll let you pass. He is VERY TOUGH. He casts spells to raise his attack power for a few rounds, then attacks the whole party at once. Either have enough killer magic to beat him quickly, of have a lot of HP. After you beat him, he lets you through. Go across the bridge and down the stairs. Go to the left, and up the stairs at the end of the passage. Get the White Key out of the chest, and go back up. Go to the right and down, then up the stairs. Go up the stairs just to the left and get the Blue Key. Go down the stairs on the east side, around the lake and up again to find the Red Key. Go back to the second floor and down the stair in the upper right corner. Keep following the stair until you get to a fancy chest. The chest has three keyholes. Use the three keys to unlock it. The chest contains the Rainbow Bead and a note: "To the one who finds the Rainbow Bead: He who has the Beads has proven himself worthy to possess the Holy Sword. The Beads are the Twinkle Bead, Ocean Bead, Air Bead and Rainbow Bead. Find the four Beads and the way will open..." The real treasure must be this Holy Sword. Balmore, as usual, is worried that it won't sell for much. Items to find: Elixir, Blizza Scale, Tiara, Calcium, Dragon Claw, Rainbow Bead ---#23. Village Defenders Location: Mt. Garolyn When: Anytime There are two routes into Mt. Garolyn, the north route and the south route. The south route has been blocked by a rockfall, so take the north route. There is a cabin at the top of the mountain. Bardigan, a bandit, lives there. As soon as you talk to him, he attacks. After you defeat him, he runs away. Runna wonders if he's one of Balmore's friends :). Keep going over the mountain, and you'll find the village of Chabra. Most of the people don't want to talk to you. Samson, in the north house, explains that the village has been under attack by Bardigan's bandits recently, and everyone is terrified of strangers. When he hears that you defeated Bardigan, he asks for your help. He takes you into his house and goes to gather the other villagers. Samson's brother, Holmes, is there, but he doesn't talk to you. The villagers enter and introduce themselves: Samson, Yaman, Ryuna, McCoy, Beth, Bonark and Gamma. They've been living in fear of the bandits on the mountain for many years, and wanted to flee the village. However, the south route is blocked by a rackfall, and the north route leads to the bandits' lair. On top of that, there's a spy in the village, who lets the bandits know every time they tried to escape. They want you to help them get off of Mt. Garolyan, to the country of Lachwald, where they plan to build a new village. Rick and Runna agree. Balmore asks if there's a reward, but since the villagers just barely have enough to eat, it look like he'll have to work for free this time. Ryuna is worried about whether the spy will tell the bandits their plans, but Samson insists there is no spy. Samson says that as leader of Chabra, he'll personally kill the spy if there is one. Holnes runs out of the room. The next morning, Samson comes to wake you. It's time to leave. If you get wounded along the way, you can return to Chabra and heal. Go over the mountain. At the other side, Bardigan is waiting for you. He sends some of his underlings after you. After you defeat them,he calls his spy to kill you. It's McCoy! Barsigan and McCoy attack together. McCoy is the weaker of the two, so attack him first. After the fight, McCoy reveals that there was another spy- Holmes. Samson refuses to believe it, but Holmes admits that it's true. Before, Samson had said he'd kill the spy, so now he has to kill Holmes. You have the option to try to stop him. At the last minute, Samson decides he can't do it. The villagers aren't entirely willing to forgive Holmes and let him come with them, but they'll turn a blind eye if both Samson and Holmes leave. Before he goes, Samson gives you a Quick Tiger. The villagers mark the location of their new village on your map and leave. Items to find: Mill50 ---#24: Pirates' Sacrifice Location: Daman When: 2/1 to 2/10 If you go to Daman between 2/1 and 2/10, the townspeople will try to attack you. Unfortunately, they're all too weak to fight effectively. Afterward, the village elder explains that their village is being blackmailed by pirates. Every year on 2/10, they must send human sacrifices to them. This year, their village is nearly empty. They attacked you thinking they could send you instead of villagers. After hearing their story, Runna volunteers to go anyway. Surprisingly, Balmore agrees, eager for a chance to beat up some evildoers (or maybe just take their treasure). They ask you if you will go, too. The elder lets you stay at the inn until 2/10. On 2/10, the pirates come. You try to act the part of scared hostages, but Balmore isn't much of an actor. Trukin, the captain of the ship, tells you that you're going to be used as slaves. Maybe Barbariff, the pirates' leader will keep you, or maybe they'll sell you to someone else. They throw you in the brig. After the pirates leave, Balmore breaks down the door. Now you have to take over the ship before it reaches the pirates' hideout. The galley is on the next floor. Eat their food, and you'll regain your HP. Trukin is on the bridge. He tells you to play with some of his underlings until you reach Skull Island. But you're not interested in playing. After you defeat him, Trukin begs you to spare his life. Runna tells him to take you to their leader. AFter you arrive at Skull Island, you tie all the pirates up so they can't escape. Trukin tells you their base is to the north. Before you go, go rest in the beds in the lower deck. Go north around the forest to the pirates' lair. There is a save point near a lake about mid-way through. On the second floor of the base, there is a hidden chest at the end of a narrow corridor containing the Dance tech. Barbariff is on the top floor. First, he sends his two underlings after you, then he attacks you himself. Barbariff has healing spells, and attacks that hit the whole party at once. After you beat him, he begs for life and runs away. Now you can loot the pirates' treasure! One of the chests has a piece of paper inside. It's a treasure map! According to it, the pirates' real treasure is on Gelma Island. It gives an incantation to read before of the "unopened door" in the cave there, and gives these directions: Down, Middle, Up, Down, Down, Up, Middle. Balmore says that you can catch a boat to Gelma Island from the town of Luvas. After getting all the treasure (especially the Angellus!), go back to where you docked the boat. It's gone! Barbariff must has taken it to escape. But soon another boat comes, this time piloted by the Daman villagers. After you left, they decided to try and fight the pirates themselves. However, the pirates are already gone. You return to Daman. Now the village of Daman is free. If you want to go back to Skull Island, talk to the man in the boat shop in the SW corner. Items to find: AllWell, Hurric Scale, Dance tech, 8000G, Pirate's Note, Angellus, Sohma ---#25: Pirate's Treasure Location: Luvas and Gelma Island When: After completing adventure #24 You can get to Gelma Island from Luvas. The fare is 10000G. Go around the island to the SW to find the cave. There is a red door there. Stand in front of the door and read the incantation on the note you found in the pirates' lair. The door opens! There are two doors in the next room. One is submerged. Don't worry about that one, yet. Go through the right side one, and get the items from the chests in the cave. One of them is the Pirate's Key. Another is the Fairy Statue, which you'll need for another adventure. Balmore wants to abandon it because it doesn't look valuable, but the twins insist on keeping it. Go back to the room with the switches. Take a look at the pirates' note. After the incantation, it lists directions. This is how to flip the switches (from left to right): Down, Middle, Up, Down, Down, Up, Middle. After you flip them, the water flows into the other reservoir, and you can get to the other door. At the other end of the cave is a fancy chest. Use the Pirate's Key to open it (if you don't have the key, go through the switch room to the other cave to get it, then flip the switches again and come back to the chest). The Ocean Bead is inside. Before you can leave, someone comes up behind you. It's Barbariff and Trukin from the pirate band. They figured you'd come here, and they've been waiting. They attack. They're stronger than before, and Barbariff still has attacks that hit the whole party at once. Trukin is weaker, so attack him first. When you're done on Gelma Island, go back to the docks and the ferry will take you back to Luvas. Items to find: Carnelian, AllWell, Mandragora, Shell Mail, Pirate's Key, Fairy Statue, Opera, Ocean Bead ---#26: The Mirage Palace Location: Mirage Palace When: Anytime Items needed: Black Box You can find the Black Box in Longoon Forest some time after completing adventure #19 When you first find the Black Box, you see a button on it. You press the button and the box talks! There is a picture showing on it. It shows the location of the Mirage Castle. In a forest near Kinslow is what looks like a castle floating upside-down. It's a mirage, and you can't enter it. However, if you have the Black Box, it will make the mirage real. The inside is a mirage, as well. The first floor looks like a castle, but both it and you and shown upside-down. To see where you can walk, look at the "bottom" of the walls (where they touch the floor, or whatever you want to call the thing you're walking on). THe second floor is a desert with purple bubbles. Some of the bubbles (the ones that aren't bouncing) can be broken. The star shapes on the floor are the stairs to the next level. The third floor is a floating cliff with an aurora (my favorite :)). The fourth floor is an upside-down forest. The fifth floor is a catwalk. There's a save point here. The sixth floor is a cliff. The waterfalls are all going the wrong way. You can walk through them. Maybe this was supposed to be upside-down, too. The last floor is another upside-down castle. There, you meet the ruler of the mirage palace. He says he's been waiting for someone to come here. He's a space traveller. The mirage palace is actually his ship. The ship was damaged when he landed here and he lost a part of it, namely, the Black Box. Without it, the ship won't move, and he can't leave the ship. Give him the Black Box back. In return, he gives you an Abilit Scope and raises all your levels by 1. When you're done in the palace, talk to him again. He says he's going back to his homeland. He says it's very far away, in a place you've never seen. Rick thinks he means it's across the ocean. You leave the palace. The palace transforms back into a rocket and takes off again. Items to find: Torna spell, Scale Mail, Hermes Sandals, Double Axe ---#27: The Ant Kingdom Location: Maneating Desert When: After getting Charan and Poran (adventure #3) Go to the NW corner of the desert. There is a hole there. Charan will yell that there are ants. Runna says that they aren't ants, but antlions. Charan insists that there are ants, too, and they're asking for help. Charan and Poran say they'll help the ants. Runna doesn't understand what they're talking about. Suddenly, everything gets blurry. When it clears, there's an ant standing in front of you. You've shrunk! The ant introduces himself as Anton, and says that you shrunk because the twins agreed to help them. He takes you back to his country. Balmore seems unusually reluctant to go... Anton announces that he brought humans to help, and the rest of the ants come to see. Balmore freaks out. He's afraid of ants! Anton takes you to see the queen. The queen is surprised that you heard their call. Usually, only fairies can hear them. She wants you to get rid of the antlions. Balmore keeps insisting he won't go. Anton offers to go in his place. Balmore wants to leave and demands that Anton turn him back to normal. Unfortunately, he can't. He says that you shrank because you were bitten by antlions, and you won't be able to get back to normal until you kill all the antlions. Talk to one of the ants to get a Iron Spear. Another can save the game. There are 10 antlions in all. To find them, look for holes in the ground outside the anthill. Antlions are relatively weak against Ice. If you get wounded, talk to the queen, and she'll heal you. Some of the monsters in the desert drop Elixir-SPs. Get some! After you defeat the 10th antlion, you fall into a tunnel. Anton doesn't recognize it, and doesn't know the way out. Go into the small chambers to find items. At the and of the tunnel, there's an ant named Arida. Arida is apparently an old friends of Anton's who disappeared a while ago. However, Arida reveals that it was he who brought the antlions here. In the ant world, the males are subordinate to the females, and Arida was tired of it. He wanted to start his own empire. He attacks. Arida is very weak against ice. After you defeat Arida, Anton tries to convince him to return to the queen, but Arida refuses. He warns Anton that there are many others who feel the same way, and dies. Anton digs a hole leading to the surface, and takes you back to the queen. The queen thanks you for your help. Runna asks how you can get back to normal, now that the antlions are gone. The queen apologizes and said that she lied before. She gave Anton a magic spell to shrink any humans who heard their call. She can undo the spell. As thanks, she tells you about a secret passage in the ruins in the desert. There is a button in the mouth of the lion statue. Press it and the passage will open. Runna goes to get Balmore, who is anxious to leave. You leave the ant tunnels, and Anton turns you back to normal. The twins here Anton telling you goodbye. Items to find: Iron Spear, AllWell (3), Sohma (3) ---#28: Ancient Ruins Location: Maneating Desert When: After completeing adventure #27 Go to the ruins in the middle of the Maneating Desert. There is a lion statue in the center. The Queen Ant said to push the button in its mouth. Push the button and the statue splits open to reveal a staircase. It leads to some old catacombs. There is a circle of coffins in the center. The center one has a fancy-looking treasure chest by it. It contains the Air Bead. Once you get the Air Bead, the coffins open and the mummies attack, two by two. After the mummies are gone, the Mummy King appears from the center coffin and attacks to see if you are worthy to possess the Air Bead. To beat him, concentrate on magic attacks. He's not weak against anything in particular, but physical attacks do almost no damage. Items to find: Sword, Air Bead ---#29. A Fistful of GP Location: Jacquin When: Anytime When you first enter Jacquin, you're met by the leaders of the two gangs that rule the town. Clint, in blue, rules the left side. Juliano, in pink, rules the right side. Each one says that you must choose a side if you want to enter the town. After they get done fighting over you, pick a side. If you don't pick, you won't be able to enter. The plot is the same, no matter who you pick: The boss takes you to his house and introduces you to his bodyguards, (Marlon, Kirk and Bart for Clint; Dean, James and Jack for Juliano). After you explore the town, go talk to the boss and he'll let you stay in his house. One of the bodyguards shows you toa room and you go to sleep. Later, you're awakened by loud noises. The bodyguards run in and tell you that their enemy has kidnapped the boss. They ask you to help rescue him. The bodyguards will join the party and fight with you, but you won't be able to control them. Go to the enemy boss's house. The boss is being held on the second floor. First, the enemy boss sends his bodyguards after you. After you defeat them, he threatens to kill the prisoner. The bodyguards tell them that he'll die anyway if he kills him. He challenges you to a one-on- one duel and promises to let the prisoner go if you win. Pick someone to fight him. His attacks cause Broken Bone, so unless you have a lot of Calciums handy, pick someone who can use magic. After freeing your friend, you go back to his house and rest. The next morning, he and his bodyguards come to see you. He's been thinking. Now that he rules the town, he doesn't want any more tensions like there was before. That means getting rid of anyone strong enough to oppose him, and that includes you. You can't stay in Jacquin permanently (not that you'd want to). He gives you 10000G as thanks for rescuing him. In a month, you'll be able to enter the town again. Items to find: 3000G, Elixir ---#30. The Valley of Gold Location: Melras and Kashue Valley When: After getting Lukiman The three men in Melras' pub are looking for someone to help explore Kashue Valley and look for the legendary Valley of Gold. They're only interested in strong men, though. Women and children won't do. Talk to Mahoney, the man in the center. He thinks you might be useful. Balmore doesn't quite like his attitude (he refers to him as the "big oaf"), and almost gets into a fight with Mahoney's sidekicks, but Mahoney calms them down. Once he hears that Mahoney's plan might make them some money, Balmore is more than willing to forgive and forget. They're looking for gold, and they have a lead on where it is. It's in Kashue Valley, which legends says is made completely out of gold. Mahoney knows the secret to getting in, but there are powerful monsters there. Therefore, he was looking for some others to help. Mahoney and has friends join the party. Runna and the twins wait at the pub. Mahoney sets up a tent at the valley's entrance. If you get wounded, you can heal at the tent. Some of the monsters in Kashue Valley drop Raiden Claws. This is a nice weapon for Poran. There's a skull-shaped rock at the bottom of the valley. Mahoney tells everyone to turn to rock. It opens a door in the valley wall. At the other end of the cave, you find a chamber made entirely of gold. The legends were true! Balmore and Mahoney's gang immediately start grabbing all the gold they can. Rick is a bit hesitant. It seems too good to be true. Suddenly, Balmore collapses. Rick goes to help him, but he collapses, too. Mahoney's gang turns around. Now they're wearing gasmasks. The rest of Kashue Valley's legend said that it was also called the Valley of Amnesia. The gas filling the gold chamber erases the memory of anyone who breathes it. And if you breathe too much of it, you die. Mahoney intends to leave everyone there for dead. However, the gas isn't affecting Lukiman. He used his magic to stop his breathing. He knocks Mahoney out with a fire spell, then drags Rick and Balmore out of the valley and reseals the door. Mahoney's gang will just have to find their own way out. Rick and Balmore wake up. Lukiman tells them that Mahoney lied about the gold and abandoned them there. Rick and Balmore don't remember what happened in the valley, so they believe him. Everyone returns to Melras, where Runna and the twins are waiting. Items to find: AllMill, Mill50, Choker, Hermes Sandals, Hole spell, Gold Helm ---#31. The Fairies' Game Location: Holft When: After getting all six characters Items needed: Fairy Statue You can find the Fairy Statue during adventure #25 This is my favorite of the adventures :). It's a homage to "traditional" RPGs. Make sure you have plenty of money before you do this adventure. There are some stores that sell REALLY NICE STUFF that are only available during this adventure. Get the Fairy Statue and stay at Holft's inn. In the middle of the night, a girl named Maria appears from a ball of light and asks for your help. You follow her into the light. You find yourself in a strange place that none of you have ever seen. Charan and Poran seem to recognize it, though. They tell you there's a castle to the north, and the king is waiting there. Sure enough, there's a castle there. Go to the second floor and talk to the king. He says he's been waiting for you to come, and tells you ask the magicians on the first floor for more information. Balmore asks if that's all he has to say, and demands to know where they are and how they got there. The king just continues to tell you to ask the magician. Balmore starts to lose temper, then Runna steps in. The king doesn't tell her anything, either. Charan and Poran seem to know where you are. They say this is the Fairy Kingdom. The king is surprised that they know, after all, no one should have told them yet. Talk to the queen and the two attendants. The queen says that she summoned you, but that was her only job, and you'll have to talk to the others for the rest. The attendants both beg you to save their country, and complain that that's their only line. Hmm. Go talk to the magician on the first floor. He's the guy in the green robe. He also tells you that this is the Fairy Kingdom. Normally, humans can't come here. Both Charan and Poran say they've been her before. The magician says that the country is under attack by the Great Demon King. Runna asks why, but the magician fumbles over the answer. He finally says it's because that's what Demon Kings do. He continues, saying that the Holy Book of the fairies foretold that six heroes from the human world would appear when the country was in danger- A brave young man, a beautiful girl, and old but powerful sorcerer, two cute little girls, and a big stupid oaf. These six are supposed to save the Fairy Kingdom from the Great Demon King. Runna rather likes the legend, but Balmore takes exception to it. He demands to see the book. The magician refuses, and Balmore takes it. The pages are blank! After calming Balmore down, Runna asks where the Great Demon King is. The magician says that only the king can tell you that. Go talk to the king. Balmore almost loses his temper again, and Runna has to calm him down. The king says that you can't return to the human world until you defeat the Great Demon King. However, you can't do that just yet. He stalls, as if he's waiting for something to happen, complaining that "that guy" should have been here already. Right on cue (almost), the castle shakes. The king snaps into panic mode. The Great Demon King appears in the throne room and makes the usual evil-villain threats about how the kingdom belongs to him, and not even heroes can stop him. You attack, but he objects that you're not supposed to fight yet, and he still has more lines. No matter. You beat him with one hit. So now you've beaten the Great Demon King and the Fairy Kingdom is saved, right? Nope. The king's attendants stop you from finishing him off, and the Demon King returns to his tower. It looks like you were a little stronger that the king expected. You were supposed to cower in fear when the Great Demon King appeared. At least, that's what the script called for. The Great Demon King is supposed to be the final enemy, so you can't kill him here. Despite Balmore's objections, the king continues with the script. The Demon King is too powerful for you to defeat now. You'll need to go to the Cave of Darkness, south of the castle, and ask the guardian there what the Great Demon King's weak point is. Runna wonders why they have to ask him. Why didn't one of them go to the cave and find out the weak point before? The king doesn't have an answer. One of the attendants reminds him of his lines. Apparently, the guardian will only talk to heroes, and there aren't any in the Fairy Kingdom. So how will the guardian know you're heroes? Well, he's a guardian, so he'll just know. Balmore gets tired of being jerked around, but theking promises that there's a reward for defeating the Great Demon King. As usual, the mention of money calms Balmore down. The king tells you that you can take some of the treasure chests stored upstairs. The items are pretty weak. Lukiman, who seems to have figured it out, explains that this is what you'd have at the start of an adventure. This whole thing is a game, and they're the main characters. Charan and Poran explain that this is the Fairy Festival, and if you finish their game, there's a wonderful prize. Head south from the castle, past the village, to the Cave of Darkness. The guardian is in the back of the cave. He says he already knows everything. Balmore asks if he knows what he want to eat, to see if he really does know everything. The poor guardian tries to stick to the script. He doesn't like his role, apparently. The role of the guardian was just there to buy time, anyway. Once they get back on script, the guardian says that the Great Demon King's weakness is the Holy Mirror. The king knows where the mirror is. Yes, you have to go back to the castle again. Go talk to the king. Balmore demands to know where the Holy Mirror is. The king tries to go into panic mode, but can't quite get the facial expression right. Runna suggests that he try harder to look scared, and maybe they could get more into the game. The king hams it up (a little too much). The Holy Mirror is in the Demon's Tower, to the west. The king says you can now go into the fairy village, and can take some more of the chests. Balmore complains that it'll just be more junk, but the king insists it's good stuff, since you'll need strong equipment to go the the Demon's Tower. The game is more interesting of you don't get the strongest stuff right away, but Balmore doesn't seem to get it. Before going to the Demon's Tower, stop at the Fairy Village. There are some nice stores there: Weapon store: Arlaune Sword, Sword, Justice Sword, Mega Axe, Great Axe, Trident, Raiden Claw, Fjord Armor store: Tiara, Circlet, Magical Helm, Headband, Mist Mail, Shell Mail, Blood Mail, Bische, Spelio Mail, Miracle Armor, Heat Mail, Platinum Mail, Devil Mail, Hermes Sandals, Queen Boots, Speed Boots Medicine store: Well10, Well30, Well50, AllWell, Mill10, Mill30, Mill50, Elixir, Amurita, Medi, Calcium, Cross, Elixir-DX, Elixir-SP Item store: Blaze Scale, Blizza Scale, Loa Scale, Hurric Scale, Mandragora, Naky Gas, Carnelian, Malachite, Lapis Lazuli, Opera, Loupe, Choker I should note that you can buy the Bische and Choker you need for adventure #4 here. A man in the village says he has the key to the Demon's Tower. But before he'll give it to you, there's something you have to do. He's learned a terrible secret, and asks you to take a message to the king about it. Balmore wants to know the secret and looks at the scroll. It's blank! The man still tries to get you deliver it, and Balmore's refusal to follow the script is getting him upset. Humor the poor guy and deliver the scroll. Balmore gives the king the scroll, and the king claims to be able to read it, saying that only someone smart enough can read it. However, the scroll Balmore gave him was a fake! It's just a blank piece of paper. Runna scolds him for trying to mess up the game and gives the king the real scroll. The king is tired of Balmore's behavior and threatens to walk off the set and not give them the treasure. Fortunately for Balmore, the others convince the king to continue. The king says that the Great Demon King's son, Demon King, is after the Holy Mirror. Not too creative with names, are they? You have to get it before he does. He tells you to take some more of the chests upstairs. Go see the man in the villag again. Balmore demands to know why he had them waste time playing mailman when the Demon Prince was after the Holy Mirror, and demands that he give him the key to the Demon's Tower. But now the man claims it was stolen. Balmore is getting tired of the game, and is about to give up on getting the treasure. He starts knocking holes in the house. Suddenly, the man "remembers" that he has a spare key and gives it to Balmore. Go west to the Demon's Tower. Now that you have the key, you can get in. The Holy Mirror is at the top. Unfortunately, Demon King's son, Little Demon King, is already there. Great Demon King, Demon King and Little Demon King. Try to keep them straight. Little Demon King tries to do his villain speech, but Balmore attacks before he finishes. After you defeat him, he says that his father will avenge him, and runs away. That's supposed to mean that he died, I suppose. Get the Holy Mirror from the chest. As you leave the room, a crying girl appears. Balmore want to ignore her and get back to the castle, but she seems rather insistent on being noticed. She says she's lost, and admires the Holy Mirror. She wants you to let her see it. And of course, since she's just a cute, ordinary, lost girl, there's no harm in that, right? If you refuse to show her, she just keeps crying, so show her the mirror. To the surprise of no one, the girl is really Demon King in disguise. At least the actor playing Demon King can remember his lines. He tells you to come to Demon King Tower in the east if you want it back. He makes sure to tell you to go the Demon King Tower only, not that other tower in the north. Demon King Tower is east of the village. Demon King is on the top floor. Defeat him. The actor hams it up for everything he's worth, milking all the emotion he can out of his big death scene. But there's no way his father, Great Demon King (who lives in the tower to the NW, by the way) will be beaten! At last, he dies. Or not. After still more dying words, the "corpse" slinks out of the room. But wait- he still has the mirror! He was so caught up in his death speech that he forgot to give it to you! The supposedly- dead Demon King rushes in, gives you the mirror, and runs back out. Great Demon King's tower is north of the fairies' castle. Hopefully, this is the last one, and there isn't a grandfather named Super Demon King or something. Great Demon King is on the top floor. He does the usual super-villain-you'll-never-beat-me speech. Balmore reminds him that they've already beaten him once. Great Demon King says that was just a test of their strength. People like you, driven by things like "love" and "friendship" can never beat him. Balmore agrees. He doesn't care about love or friendship. Besides, Demon King claimed to love Little Demon King during his over-long death speech. It looks like Demon King has as much trouble sticking to the script as Balmore. Whatever you're fighting for, beat Great Demon King. He has a death speech, too. How could be he beaten by something as flimsy as love? According to Balmore, he was beaten because he was just a wuss. Great Demon King sticks to the script and says that evil will always exist as long as humans do. Runna wonders if he's going to transform into something else and show his true form or something. But no, they leave that cliche out. By the way, what was the Holy Mirror for? You didn't even need to use it. Lukiman says there must be a bug in the scenario :). Now all that's left is to go see the king and get your prize. The king congradulates you and asks if Rick wants to stay and be his successor. He's not serious, so it doesn't matter how you answer. Go upstairs and collect the rest of the treasure. Go to the village and do some shopping, too, if you want. Then come talk to the king again. The king declares the game over, and all the fairies take off their costumes. The fairy explains that the Fairy Statue you found connects this world and the human world. Charan and Poran seem to know all about it. The fairy asks if they're human, but neither of them know. She takes back the Fairy Statue and the Holy Mirror. The next thing you know, you're back in Holft. Elsewhere in the Fairy Kingdom, the "thieves" who stole the key to Demon Tower are still waiting for the heroes to come. Balmore says that Mount Malmar is the biggest mountain on the island, and is populated by strong monsters. No one on the island will go near it. Mount Malmar is near Jacquin. There is a cave at the summit. It's a long way up, so stock up on medicine before you go. The strange voice tells you to enter. Some enemies in the cave drop Elixir-DX's. It's another long walk, but at least there's lots of goodies along the way. At the end of the cave, there is a man surrounded by magic circles. He guards the Hero Sword. He asks which one of you has come for the sword. Runna says it's Rick, but Balmore says it's him. Balmore fights the guard, but is beaten. Now it's Rick's turn. If you have a Lapis Lazuli, equip it before you fight the guard. If you beat him, you may get an Element. You enter the sword's chamber. There are 4 stands. Put the 4 Beads on the stands, then go get the Holy Sword! From now on, you're not just an adventurer- you're a true hero! Items to find: Warrior Boots, Miracle Armor, 230000G, Elixir (4), Guardian, Sohma, Hurric Scale, AllMill (2), Queen Boots, Elixir- DX, AllWell, Tiara, Trident, Bright Helm, Circlet, Tall Mail, Magical Helm, Raiden Claw, God Armor, Mill50, Loadis spell, Devil Mail, Holy Sword ---#33. The Cursed Dolls Location: Istra When: After getting all six characters Items needed: Antique Doll To get the Antique Doll, borrow the maximum amount (50000G) from the moneylender, and pay it back within the time limit. There is a haunted mansion in Istra. The Montgomery family once lived there, but something horrific happened to them. None of the people in Istra want to talk about it, or even go near the mansion. After getting the Antique Doll, stay in Istra's inn. In the middle of the night, Rick awakes. A ball bounces into the room, and a little girl comes to pick it up. Where is he? Where is everyone? Check the chest. There's a diary inside, with the name Lambert Montgomery written on it. On the last page, it says: "Today, again, I didn't see my daughter. I don't want to see my her. Ever since my other daughter died, I can't bring myself to look at her. I'd rather kill her. That would be best. But my wife would never let me. I'm sure there's a way around it. The real problem is the dolls." Take the diary with you. The door opens. You find yourself in a hallway. You hear a strange sound and go to investigate, but are attacked by a ghost. Oddly, the ghost disappears without hurting you. Was it a mirage? Go into the room on the other side of the hall. Several ghosts are gathered there. "Come with us. There's nothing to be afraid of. Come with us..." says one. A ball of light appears and the ghosts fly into it. When it fades, there is a piece of paper there. It's another piece of Lambert's diary: "That room is terrifying. I need to hide it so that no one ever sees. I'll seal up the door inside the wall. I hope no one ever finds that room. But if anyone does, be sure to bring the music box. If you don't, you're as good as dead." Go into the room just south of where you awoke. Several dolls are lined up on the shelf. They look just like the one you got from the moneylender. If you have a Carnelian, equip it before you examine the dolls. If you don't have one, you can find one in the basement of the mansion. You're going to need it. Examine the dolls, and they attack! If they beat you, you wake up in the bedroom again, and will have to start over. If you win, they attack again. In all, you'll have to defeat the dolls 5 times (without getting killed). When the dolls are destroyed, two of them turn into Charan and Poran! Suddenly, your head starts hurting and you pass out. You wake up in the bedroom. Checking your items, you realize the doll you got from the moneylender is gone. Go to the room on the right side at the south end of the corridor (just south of where the dolls were). There is a monster there. It calls you a monster and attacks. After you kill it, it turns into Balmore! Your head starts hurting and you pass out. You wake up back in the bedroom. Go to the room of the left at the south end of the corridor. It's a bathroom. Part of the wall seems like it's a different color. Search the wall, and remove the tiles. A body falls out! Search it and you find a key. Go up the stairs at the south end of the corridor. The little girl is there. Her name is Catherine. She's alone in the house. Her father and mother are dead. But she has a lot of friends, so she's okay. She wants you to be her friend, too. You ask how to get out of the house. She won't tell you. You ask where your friends are. She says she doesn't know. Then she runs away and disappears. Elsewhere on this floor, there's sokme writing on the wall: "I wish Dad were dead... No one came today.... I'm hungry... Mom wants to kill me... Only the dolls play with me." Did Catherine write it? I looks like it was written in blood! Once again, you pass out and awake in the bedroom. Go down the stairs at the south end of the corridor, and go into the room in the far left. You see Lambert and his wife, Jenny. Lambert tells Jenny that he intends to kill Catherine. Jenny tries to stop him, but Lambert says it's too late. Seeing that she can't stop him, Jenny kills Lambert, then mumbles about hiding the body. They're ghosts! Jenny's ghost turns to you and says "Let's die together, Catherine!" She attacks. After you defeat, she turns into Runna! And once again, you find yourself back in the bedroom. Go back down the same stairs, and go into the room on the east side. Lukiman is there, lying in the bed. Lukiman says he doesn't know who you are, but warns you to get away from the mansion. The mansion steals people's souls. Lukiman says he's worked in this mansions since the day he was born, and has never left. But soon, he will be able to play with Catherine... He closes his eyes and dies. You awake back in the bedroom. When you get out of bed, you hear several doors opening. Go to the left side room at the north end of the corridor. There's graveyard there! Talk to the caretaker. He says he's busy making 6 new graves. You look at the names on the graves: Runna, Balmore, Charan, Poran and Lukiman. You're surprised, and the caretaker laughs at you. Why are you surprised, since you're the one that kille them? He just finished the sixth grave- it's yours. Go to the room across from the graveyard. It's Catherine's room. Catherine is there, but disappears over the dresser. Search the dresser to find a music box. Go down the stairs, and into the room next to the one where you found Runna. There's a chest of drawers that seems to be moving on its own (and it's made of human arms! Creepy!). There is a pile of bones where the chest was. You find a blood-stained rope there. As you leave, you hear another door opening. Go to the room across from where you found Charan and Poran. Lambert's ghost is there. He seems to be looking for something. As you get closer, he walks through you and then through the wall. When you check your items, you find the diary missing. Check the wall where Lambert walked. There is a secret passage behind it. It leads to a room with a well in the center. Use the rope you found to climb down the well. The well leads to a cave. There is a door at the other end of the key. Use the key you found on the body in the wall to unlock it. You find your friends lying on the floor. Catherine is there, too. You accuse Catherine of killing them, but she says you did it yourself. She demands that you turn the music box off. Her father gave her the music box when the new baby was born. After that, her mother and father didn't play with her as much. Therefore, she hates the music box. She didn't like it, so she killed the baby by sealing it in one of the dolls. She thought if she did, everything would be like it was before and her mother and father would play with her. But they didn't. Her father shut her up in the attic. Now she's lonely and wants to play with her new friends. She doesn't realize she's dead. She attacks. After you defeat her, you run to see if your friends are okay. Catherine appears again. She's become a doll, herself. Defeat her again. You may find a Devil Mail at the end of the battle. Catherine decides she doesn't want you as friends, after all. She'll find some other friends. You find yourself in Istra's Inn. You check on your friends. They're all alive. None of them remember what happened, or at least, they don't want to talk about it. Catherine's ghost appears and tells you to leave her alone and never come back again. Items to find: Carnelian ---#34. Lachwald Kingdom Location: Lachwald When: After winning the Bannock Tournament (adventure #14) If you go to Lachwald before winning the tournament, they'll just turn you away, saying that they don't allow foreigners inside. But apparently, they'll make an exception if you're famous. When they realize you won the last tournament, they let you in. Balmore tries to bask in your reflected glory and claims to have taught you everything you know. However, it looks like you came at a bad time. Lachwald's king, Lachnis, is dying. He dies just as you approach. One of the ministers notices you. The castle staff aren't too grief-stricken to turn star-struck. The minister has something to talk to you about, and asks you to come to his room. Prince Munis and his teacher stay behind for a little while. The teacher also asks to speak to you later. Both men have a favor to ask. With the king dead, they have to choose his successor. The teachers thinks that Prince Munis should be the next king, since he's the old king's son. The minister thinks his son should be the next king, since the prince is too young and the teacher is controlling him behind the scenes (just until Munis is old enough, of course, right?). Pick whichever one you want. The story at this point is essentially the same, no matter who you pick. In order to be recognized as the next king, the successor must find the Royal Seal in the catacombs under the castle. Of course, the catacombs are infested with monsters. They want you to help get it. They want to you guard the boy until he can get the seal. They offer you 150000G as a reward. The boy joins you. If you have all six characters, you'll have to leave someone behind. The entrance to the catacombs is in the upper left corner. Talk to the guard and he'll let you through. The Royal Seal is a tablet hanging on the wall on the bottom floor. The boy takes it. Now go back to see the teacher/minister. He invites you to tomorrow's coronation ceremony, and tells you that you can use the beds on the right side of the castle to rest. He also gives you the 150000G reward. The next day, the coronation takes place. The teacher/minister gloats and the other boy sulks. The new king promises to build a good country for the sake of "you commoners" (geez, they're BOTH jerks!). Items to find: Shine Glove, Magical Claw, Elixir, Malachite, Cocoon, Circlet, Fujin Axe, Tall Mail ---Extra #1: The Happiness Cult Location: Pinas When: Anytime Whether this really counts as an adventure is uncertain. In the SE corner of Pinas is a house belonging to a religious sect. Knock on the door, and the leader of the sect, Carlo, will offer to pray for you. If you say yes, your friends will express their misgivings. Carlo will pray, then ask if you feel happy. Then he'll offer to pray some more. Next, he'll ask you to meet some of his followers, Jacob and Marco. They'll ask you to join their cult. If you agree, Rick goes off to spread happiness throughout the world, and the game ends. You can leave the building at any time by answering no to their questions. However, you'll have to say no several times before they finally get the point. ---Extra #2: The Expert Adventurer Location: Lukraina Forest When: Anytime An experienced adventurer lives in a cabin in Lukraina Forest. For 100G apiece, he'll give you advice. His advice: "If you use normal attacks against Amanojaki, it will heal him. You must use magic or reverse his power to defeat him." "I like to hide things... I've hidden many things on this island." "There are some monsters you can only defeat with magic, and others that don't allow you to use items. You'd better raise your level." "If you borrow the maximum amount from the moneylender, and pay it back within the time limit, they'll give you something good." "During your adventures, you'll be faced with many choices. But you must always do what you think is right." "There's an old fairy statue somewhere on the island. If you get that, and stay in an inn near the harbor, they say you'll dream of fairies." "You should pay back all the money you borrowed before leaving the island." "You should celebrate your birthday at a nice restaurant." --Extra #3. The Birthday Party Location: Jacquin When: Your birthday, after completing adventure #29 (this might work on other characters' birthdays, too) Go to Restaurant Pandora in Jacquin. Usually, they'll be too full to let you in, but if you go on your birthday (the date you picked at the start of the game), they'll have room for you. The waitress leads to a table and brings out a birthday cake. Go talk to the staff. They're actually the staff of Zamuse, the company that produced the game :). Itou: "I'm sleepy!!" (raises your Intelligence level) Nagami: "I'm sorry, honey. I'll be home tomorrow." (raises your Skill level) Kawanishi: "The Super-Ultra-Super-MAX-Hyper-Special-Great Event Present!" (raises all levels) Nishizawa: "Which BGM is your favorite? I like this BGM." (changes the music) Hayakawa: "Happy Birthday!!" (gives you an Elixir-DX) Igarashi: "[sings nonsense] Hey, this isn't a bug." (Gives you an Elixir-SP) Ohkuchi: "Just try to beat me!" (Raises your Speed level) Kikukawa: "Let's go touring!" After you get 6 people in your party, be sure to get the Fairy Statue and Cursed Doll. Then go stay at Hotel Holft and Hotel Istra. Something interesting will happen." (Gives you 10000G) After you've talked to everyone, the party ends. ---#?. The End When you get tired of adventuring, or run out of adventures to do, go to the harbor. Your friends ask if you really plan on leaving. If you leave, Runna will, too. Balmore insists that everyone stay at his house for the night, and leave in the morning. Balmore's father wishes he'd spend the rest of his life adventuring, but that's impossible. They have a going-away party for Rick and Runna. Two of Balmore's underlings come and welcome him back to Holft. Balmore takes them downstairs to tell them something. After a while, Balmore returns. Music starts, and everyone starts dancing. They dance until they fall asleep. One of Balmore's underlings comes to tell him them've finished their assignment, then leaves. The next morning, everyone goes to the harbor. Balmore's father thanks you for taking care of him. Balmore's underlings are waiting at the harbor. They've gone to gather everyone that you helped while you were on the island. What happens next depends on which adventures you completed. I'm assuming here that you did them all. First, Dibaran and his brothers. They were hoping for a rematch, even though they claim to have given up drinking. Balmore says they can come try to outdrink him any time they want. Next, the Ice Cooler salesman from Gumeia. Since the demand for Ice Coolers disappeared after the Firebird was killed, he now sells Multi Coolers. He gives you a Multi Cooler as a parting gift. Next, the architect from the Mirror Castle. He's working on his tourist attraction (honestly, this time). He asks you to tell people on other islands about Vulcannon so they'll come see his castle. Next, the Sheriff from Fulsonkohl. It seems that Gortes has reformed himself while in jail. Next, the ghost boy from Holft's school. He says that if he's reincarnated, he wants to be just like you. Next, Bentley, the collector. He says that you're a fine young man and Balmore ought to be more like you. Next, the moneylender. Since you made the a lot of money, you're a special customer. Thanks to the money you made them, they've expanded and have many franchises on other islands. Next, Iwan from Murdoch. He says that if his basement disappears again, he'll be sure to ask for your help. Next, Dantarl and his attendants from Ke'Sel. They usually don't leave the village, but they made an exception for you. Runna bugs Balmore to thank him for bringing him back to life. Balmore reluctantly agrees. Dantarl says a prayer for your safety. Next, Gomora and Leora, your opponents in the Bannock Tournament. They were both hoping to fight you again in the tournament. Next, Buffalo and Patello from Istra. Patello has obviously grown. He plans to enter the Bannock Tournament in a few years. He demonstrates one of his newly learned techs on Poran. Buffalo wonders if he wasn't better off with the old Patello. Next, Breft, the thief from Longoon Forest. He still plans to return to the country, and doesn't want you coming anywhere near him. Next, Rapha, the angel from Payne Lake. She asks if Balmore found the Raijin Axe useful. He says he did. Next, the elder from Daman. He thanks you again for saving Daman from the pirates. Next, Clint/Juliano from Jacquin (whichever one you sided with). Rick asks if the town of Jacquin is truly happy now. He insists it is, but he'll fight again if he has to. Next, Samson and Holmes from Chabra. Samson says they don't plan on returning to Chabra. He and Holmes are living together. Holmes says that he plans to go on a journey like Rick when he grows up. Next, Anton from the Ant Kingdom. You can't see him, but Charan and Poran know he's there. Fortunately, Balmore seems to have gotten over his fear of them. The twins says the Anton says goodbye. Next, the teacher/minister from Lachwald (whichever one you picked). Apparently, the new king was too busy to bother. You shold be grateful even he came (jerk!). The soldiers play a serenade for you and they leave. Good riddance, too. Next, you hear the music box from the haunted mansion. Catherine appears, and says she won't let you get away next time. The ghost boy from Holft appears and offers to play with her instead. They leave together. Next, the fairy king, or the actor playing him. He's brought the three Demon King generations (if you promise not to hurt them). They've thought up an even better scenario, and invite you to come play sometime. Next, Pumpkin appears. She thanks you for taking care of Lukiman. It looks like he might have gotten a bit stronger. She promises to be watching over you through her crystal ball, and will come to help if you need it, Lukiman asks what Charan and Poran plan to do from now on. Neither of them have thought about it. He invites them to come stay with him. They both agree. Rick and Runna say a last goodbye to Balmore. Runna hopes he finds a wife soon (if any woman can stand him, that is). Balmore says anyone but her is fine with him. Rick and Runna board the ship and everone says goodbye. The ship sets sail. Lukiman and company teleport back to the mansion. Balmore is suddenly seized with the desire to leave the island and go on an adventure all his own. He jumps in the water and swims after the ship. Another ship arrives, bringing a new load of adventurers to Vulcannon.... Rick and Runna stand on the deck of the ship, looking back at Vulcannon. Runna says she has something to tell Rick... Suddenly, Rick notices something coming toward them. It's Balmore! Rick pulls him out of the water. Why didn't he just wait for the next ship? A ghostly image of a woman appears by the ship. It's Yancha, Charan and Poran's mother! She explains that she had to leave. She's an angel. Angels are supposed to live with humans while they're children, so she had to leave Charan and Poran with you. Charan and Poran have grown strong while they were with you, and they should someday become archangels. She disappears, and Rick, Runna and Balmor return to the ship. The credits roll... (If you did the Birthday Party, the names should look familiar :) ) The boat arrives at the next island. Rick, Runna and Balmore disembark. Balmore is determined to travel alone for a while. Rick figures he'll just head south until he hits something. Runna hasn't quite decided what to do. Balmore heads north. Rick starts to leave, but Runna stops him. She wants to come with him. It looks like they'll be travelling together for a while. Forever, if Rick has anything to say about it. "And so another adventure comes to and end. But the adventure of life never ends..." Congratulations! You have finished Soul and Sword!
