I have decided to write a FAQ/Walkthrough for this merely because how in depth and fun this game really is. Shadowrun was released way back in 1993 when the SNES was beginning to hit its peak as the world's best video game unit. As forgotten as this game has become I still felt it deserved this great FAQ to do it justice once and for all. Remember this guide may only be located at Gamefaqs.com, but if you would like a copy just e-mail and I'll even send you a link. Also this guide cannot appear within a pop up or banner on any site and is intended for private use only. Enjoy the guide! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- II VERSION UPDATES ------------------------ 8/6/01 VERSION 2.0 Totally changed the ASCII artwork at the top and added my new contributor name as well as added a few more questions to the Q&A section. 7/09/01 VERSION 1.5 Fixed some minor corrections and added the Q&A section. The next version will be the final one. 7/02/01 VERSION 1.0 Initial release. All sections 100% complete. Expect updates in the near future. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- III BASIC CONTROLS ------------------ Start = Brings up Main Menu. Select = Brings up party's status. A = Brings out Jake's gun and the Target Icon. B = Brings out the Pointer Icon. Y = Brings up Item Menu. X = Brings up Spell Icon. L = Same as B. R = Same as L and B. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- IV TIPS ------------- - Whenever you attempt to take down large amounts of enemies you should always hire a shadowrunner to help out. Preferably a mercenary. - Always pick up nuyen (money) that you find on a dead enemy or wherever. You need lots of dough to afford efficient equipment. - If you find yourself stuck or lost talk to the people and ask about questions pertinent to you're current mission. - Take items that are just lying around. Many of them can/will be vital later in the game. - Never try to take on enemies toe to toe. You will usually have a better chance of a kill if you move and shoot rather then shoot. - Save nuyen! To get good equipment and information you will have to posses large quantities of money. - Learn magic. Learning magic will make you're journey throughout Seattle much easier. - Do not shoot at innocent people. Doing so will result in a loss of Karma which you use to improve Jake's skills. - Learn the Matrix. It will be an annoyance throughout the game if you don't learn the controls and when to jack out. - Plan where you are going beforehand. Nothing is as frustrating as to be lost and under heavy fire. - Use items on other items to get results. Ex. Use a Safe Key on the Safe. - Take care of you're shadowrunners. If they are low on HP, cast Heal so you can get maximum performance from them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- V STORY -------------- "THE YEAR IS 2050" And the megaplexes are monsters casting long shadows. When you become a shadowrunner that's where you live... in the cracks between the giant cooperate structures. The megacorps are powerful in a time when power means information... ...computer information flowing in the global network called the MATRIX. Sound good? We'll it should. You're basic mission in this game is to get revenge on Drake, the guy who sent the hitmen to try to kill you. You must venture through Seattle's streets to gang ridden ships. Good luck! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- VI WALKTHROUGH -------------------- Location: Morgue Items: Slap Patch, Torn Paper, and Scalpel Enemies: None Watch the cinema where two doctors put a dead man into a slab. The will now leave he room. Take control of the man now. Use the pointer, which will be you're be source of action for the game, and grab the Torn Paper. Now open the right fridge in the same room to acquire a Slap Patch that can heal you. Also, get the Scalpel on the counter. When you have obtained all these things exit the wooden door to scare the hell out of the doctors. Now exit the other wooden door to a hallway. There is nothing here but a locked door so exit the morgue. Location: Streets Items: Beretta Pistol, and Leather Jacket Enemies: Ork You will find this guy outside who gives you advice to pack a firearm. Also he will tell you that the Hitmen want you DEAD. He will now run off into an alley. Follow him. He will no get "whacked" by an Ork. Hurry up and grab his Beretta Pistol before the Ork takes any HP off you. Press Start to bring up the menu screen. Equip the Beretta Pistol and get behind a dumpster. You should now have clear shots of him while the dumpster is protecting you. It is likely, however, that you will sustain some damage. When you kill the Ork, be sure to grab and equip his Leather Jacket. Exit the alley and go into the building north of it. Inside the second room is a businessman. Ask him all the things you know to open up new questions. Now go to the north building. Location: Grim Reaper Club Items: Iced Tea Enemies: None Shadowrunners: Ork, Jamaican When you arrive talk to the Club Manager behind the counter. He will give you an iced tea. Now give that iced tea to the Club Patron, which will put him in a talking mood. He will now talk about tickets. Ask about the tickets to learn about Maria and Grinder. Ask about Grinder and you will learn about Lonestar. Now that you have this information leave. I also suggest that you do not hire Hamfist to Shadowrun with you. Now it's time to visit your apartment. Head out of the club and retrace your steps back to the Morgue. Go into the gate around the Water Fountain. A dog will leave and leave behind a collar so take it. Now take the south road and the turn east where there is an apartment building and a Monorail Station. Go inside the apartment building. Location Apartment Building Items: Door Key, and Memo Enemies: Mage, Heavy Dude Enter the first door you come across. Inside is a dead man. Examine him and take the Door Key and the Memo. In the next room you can fight some enemies if you want. The key is the one to your apartment. Leave here and go to the Monorail Station. It is closed but there is an ally on the left of it. Follow the alley to come across another apartment building. Use the Door Key on apartment 6. Location: Apartment 6 Items: Shades, Ripped Note, 20 nuyen, and Bed Enemies: None Enter your apartment to find a recorded message from Drake. Apparently your name is Jake. Be sure to pick up and wear the shades. Get the Ripped Note, and open the filling cabinet to get 20 nuyen. Before you leave sleep in the bed and use your karma if you have any. You may also want to gain some Nuyen and karma right now. Travel in the building and kill the Mages and Heavy Dudes for lots of Nuyen. When you HP runs low just go back to the bed and save. When you have about 150 nuyen leave and head for the businessman again. Ask him about the Lonestar and he will sell you a badge for 150 nuyen. Now head back to the Morgue. Location: Morgue Items: Credstick, and Tickets Enemies: None Attach the Lonestar Badge to your pocket and talk to the mortician. Ask him about Grinder and he will ask if you want his belongings. Answer yes. Look in both the cabinets to find a credstick and tickets to the Maria Mercurial concert! Well, now that you have the tickets, go to the concert! It is in the right alley across from the Grim Reaper Club. But before you visit the Cage go into the cemetery. Go into the westernmost house and open it with the Scalpel. There will be an injured Shaman here. Use a Slap Patch on him and he will give you Magic Fetish. Exit and continue on course. Location: The Cage Items: None Enemies: None There is a Bouncer (of course) blocking the entrance. He will ask for the tickets so give them to him. Talk to all the people to learn about Mr. Glutman. Talk to him, he is the shady character on the couch. He will hide you because he supposedly owes Jake favor. There will be a scene where Jake is walking blindfolded. Location: Caryards Items: Slap Patch (bought from kid), and Bed Enemies: None You're probably going to be here for a while, so make yourself comfortable. Talk to people to find out why and where you are. You can get out for 4,000 nyuen but that's just out of the question. What you're going to have to do is take down the king at the arena. But you're going to need some practice first. There is another area in the Caryards where you can fight Mages and Heavy Dudes for Karma and some extra nuyen. But before you fight any combatants, have 50 HP and skill level 3 Firearm to make the battles easier. Here is an in depth explanation of the arena's combatants. Arena Battle +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#1: Gang Member HP: 35 Weapon: Spiked Club Obtain: 3 Karma and 300 nuyen Difficulty: Easy Strategy: This guy is extremely easy. Run and wait for him to swing. Dodge the swing and shoot him. You can also fight him toe to toe if you want. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#2: Heavy Dude HP: 16 Weapon: Air Gun Obtain: 1 Karma and 700 nuyen Difficulty: Easy Strategy: Ha, this guy is easier then the first dude. Just stand in one place and shoot him dead. Good nuyen for an easy enemy. Use the Karma from this fight and the previous one to increase Body Strength. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#3: Heavy Dude HP: 24 Weapon: Air Gun Obtain: 2 Karma and 1,000 nuyen Difficulty: Easy Strategy: Just as easy as the second fighter but with better rewards. His HP is a little more then the previous fighter but nothing to worry about. You should be ashamed if he takes 5 HP off you at most. Use the Karma from this fight and the previous one to increase strength. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#4: Mage HP: 40 Weapon: Pistol Obtain: 2 Karma and 2,000 nuyen Difficulty: Easy Strategy: This one is the "hardest" you've faced yet but still not to hard. Take a few shots, run, and take a few more shots. Repeat this until this chummer is dead. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#5: Mage HP: 38 Weapon: Pistol Obtain: 1 Karma and 3,000 nuyen Difficulty: Intermediate Strategy: This guy has a nice amount of strength but then again, so do you. Shoot him as fast and as hard as you can. He would be harder if he actually shot at you more. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#6: Samurai Warrior HP: 45 Weapon: Machine Gun Obtain: 1 Karma and 4,000 nuyen Difficulty: Hard Strategy: Damn this guy is hard! He packs quite a punch with that Machine Gun. There is only one foolproof way to beat him. He will tear you apart with that Machine Gun so move up close to him and unload you Berretta. When he tries to run, run with him. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#7: Ferocious Orc HP: 40 Weapon: Shotgun Obtain: 3 Karma and 5,000 nuyen Difficulty: Hard Strategy: Ok, I have another chicken strategy here, but hey, all you're here for is the Karma and nuyen. When the battle starts immediately run behind the barrel on fire on the easternmost part of the arena. The Ork will not follow you. From here you can just blast away at him while he has his head in the clouds. Use the Karma in this fight and the previous one to increase your Firearm skill. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fighter#8: King HP: 38 Weapon: Shotgun Obtain: 4 Karma and 3,000 nuyen. Difficulty: Hard Strategy: Ok, so this isn't really the eight fighter but with the coming fights you're going to have to upgrade you're equipment which means leaving this place. To fight the King, ask the Arena Manager and he will hook you up with the fight. The King won't be too bad if you can fire off shots faster then him. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Good, now that you beat him you can leave the Caryards! Ignore the places to your right and just follow the road. There should be two shops at the end of the road. Location: Firearm/Armor Shop Items: None Enemies: None Great, this place sells a variety of great weaponry and armory. By now you should have about 20,000 nuyen. Here's a list of all of them and what each does. Weapon Shop ======================================================================= |Weapon: Colt American L36' Pistol |Cost: 500 nuyen |Grade: C |Description: I don't recommend buying this gun. If you are low on |nuyen and this is all you can afford, go for it. ======================================================================= ======================================================================= |Weapon: Fichetti |Cost: 2,000 nuyen |Grade: C |Description: Ok gun. You should not buy this because it is a waste of |nuyen though. ======================================================================= ======================================================================= |Weapon: 'Aries Viper' Long Range Pistol |Cost: 4,000 nuyen |Grade: B+ |Description: This is a good pistol that is about twice as good as the |old Beretta. You can buy it if you want, but if you have the nuyen, |get the War Hawk. ======================================================================= ======================================================================= |Weapon: 'Ruger Warhawk' Heavy Pistol |Cost: 9,000 nuyen |Grade: A |Description: Now we're talking! This is the best pistol that you're |going to get at this point in the game. If you have this much nuyen |(that you should) buy the shotgun instead. ======================================================================= ======================================================================= |Weapon: 'Defiance T-250' Shotgun |Cost: 15,000 nuyen |Grade A- |Description: The best weapon you can get in the game so far. You |should have enough money to purchase it with 5,000 nuyen left. ======================================================================= ======================================================================= |Weapon: 'Burlitzers Finest' Grenade |Cost: 100 nuyen |Grade: A |Description: These things are sweet; if you have any money left buy a |couple. ======================================================================= ======================================================================= |Armor: Mesh Wire Jacket |Cost: 5,000 nuyen |Grade: B- |Description: This should be one of the things you buy here. That |Leather Jacket is becoming old and worn. ======================================================================= Now that you have this newfound equipment go back to the arena and battle the remaining combatants for some major nuyen. Now come back and visit the doctor in the alley on you're back. Location: Ed's Patch n Fix Items: None Enemies: None When you walk in Jake will be greeted by a Street Doc. Talk to him about Datajack to learn about examination. Ask him about examination and he'll give you one for 500 nuyen. Give him the money and let him "fix you up." It seems Jake has a Cortex Bomb in his head. There is only 30 hours so hurry to the station and hop on the one to Daily Station. Location: Daily Station Items: Iron Key Enemies: 2 Ferocious Orks Get off the Monorail and you will be confronted by 2 Ferocious Orks. They are no problem with you're handy shotgun. When you kill them they will mention something about Rust Stilettos. Pick up the nuyen and Iron Key. Go to the south of the station and cross the road. Just watch out for the cars zooming by. Keep going south on the sidewalk and enter the first building you see. Talk to the secretary and mention the Cortex Bomb. You have to give her 2,000 nuyen and she will let you through. Mention the Cortex to the doctor and he'll fix Jake up. You'll learn, Head Computers, Matrix Systems, and Cyberware. Now, you need to go to Glutman's place. Go to the Tenth Street Station and exit. He lives across the alley where you got the Beretta in the second room. Pick up the Cyberdeck on his desk and use it on the computer. Welcome to the Matrix. Here's the solution: move right, up, up, right, right, up, right, right, down, right, down, receive data, down, down, right, receive data. Now it's time to leave. Now you should get Glutman's account and 1,000 nuyen. Next stop is the Wastelands. It is in the alley north of the Daily Station. Location: Wastelands Items: None Enemies: None Shadowrunners: Ork, Mercenary, Decker, Dwarf When you walk in a Ork will be waiting for. Kill him and go down the stairs. You're mission in here is to hire a Shadowrunner. I suggest Anders who is the guy with the shades at the bar. He only charges 1,000 nuyen, but he is one of the best you can get. When you're done here leave and take the path to the right of Jake and the new shadowrunner. Location: Rust Stilettos Items: Crowbar, and Password Enemies: 6 Heavy Dude, 4 Gang Member, 2 Ferocious Ork, Gang Leader You will be warned by s punk to leave. Ignore him and blow him and his cronies away which should be easy with you're shadowrunner. When you blow through this mess go inside the building using the Iron Key. It should be easy killing the enemies in here. Just shoot at what the shadowrunner shoots at to make this go easier. Don't forget to grab the Crowbar. Go through the door. The enemies in here are tough so watch out. Get the Password from the Gang Leader's corpse and leave. Go to the hotel, which left, down, down, and left from here. There should be a hotel and a line of people. Talk to the two dudes in blue and pay them 50 nuyen to enter the Jagged Nails. Location: Jagged Nails Items: None Enemies: None Shadowrunners: Decker, Mage, Kitsune Walk in and talk to all the people. Talk to the women on the top level. Ask her about Dog and she will give you enchanted leaves. Also hire her because Katsune will NEVER leave you. Now exit Jagged Nails. You're next stop is the docks which are south and left of here. Location: Docks Items: None Enemies: Massive Orc, Hitman Take care of the enemies here. There should be a door in this screen so enter it. Kill the enemies here and head to the computer. Use the Cyberdeck and tap into the Matrix. Here is the solution for this one: Right, up, up, left, left, up, left, left, down, left, left, receive data, right, down, down, down, left, receive data. Now it's time to leave. Obtain the Matrix account and 2,000 nuyen. Go into the next screen and enter the door. The Dog Spirit will give you the Heal spell plus send you on a mission to destroy the Rat Shaman. Before you go, visit The Wastelands and hire Anders as you're Shadowrunner. To enter, go to the market and down one of the passages. Location: Rat Sewer Items: None Enemies: Giant Rats, Rat Shaman Kill all the rats you can see. Go north two screens and the east. The Rat Shaman will be there with about 5 Giant Rats. He will occasionally freeze you but it's no problem. Just keep attacking. When he's dead the Rat Spirit or something will tell you about Jester Spirits. Go back to the Dog Spirit now. He will tell you some things but no new words. Go back to Jagged Nails. Location: Jagged Nails Items: None Enemies: None Shadowrunners: Decker, Mage, Kitsune Alright, you are going to learn allot of info here. First, talk to Kitsune and ask about Jester Spirits, you will learn about Dark Blade. Ask Kitsune about Dark Blade and you will learn Vampire. Next, ask the Club Manager (north) about Vampires to learn Strobes. Now, talk to the Club Manager (south) about Strobes and he will give them to you. Last, use the Video Phone to talk to the Talisman. Ask him about Dark Blade and he will give you his number. Call the Dark Blade and ask about Magic Fetish. Also, if you do not have a Wooden Stake go to the Talismans shop to purchase one. Their lair is located south of the market. Location: Dark Blades Items: Bronze Key, and Mesh Jacket Enemies: Samurai Warriors, Mage, Cruel Men, Ghouls Enter and talk to the Mage. Tell him about the Magic Fetish and he will let you through. Vladmir is in the reading room which is first room to you're left. Go in and talk to him and give him the Magic Fetish. Ask him about Jester Spirits and you'll learn Nirwanda and Bremington. Now get into the other computer and obtain the three data caches. Vladmir, on the other hand, escapes through the wall. Go into the right room now and kill all the people. Pick up the Bronze Key from a bookcase. Also one of the dead Samurai Warriors is a Mesh Jacket. Now, go into the north room and take a left. Kill all the people in here and open the Bronze Gate. Watch out, there are lots of Ghouls down here. Go into Vladmir's room and se the strobes. You can now stake him. Ask him about Jester Sprits to learn the real name, Laughlyn. I recommend you kill him to get 5,000 nuyen and 5 Karma. Leave the Dark Blades. Now, go to the Wastelands. There should be a dude in the corner watching the band. Ask him about Ice. He'll then ask where you want it delivered. Answer him with the Docks. Give him the money and head down to the Docks again. Talk to the Boat Driver and ask about Bremington. Pay, 100 nuyen and he'll take you there. Location: Bremington Items: Dog Tag, Safe Key, Detonator, Broken Bottle, and Green Bottle Enemies: Mages, Heavy Dudes, Gang Members, Gang Leaders, Massive Orcs All the doors are rusted shut except for one, which happens to be the furthest away. Blast you're way through the enemies until you come across a dog. Kill the dog and take the Dog Tag. Use the Crowbar on the last door. Kill the Poison Ooze and hit the switch, which will open the door. Follow the maze until you come across a fleet of stairs. Go up them and continue on the path. Kill the Massive Orcs you come across until you reach a room with a Ferocious Orc. Kill him and take the Safe Key. Open the safe to get the Detonator and Broken Bottle and go back to where you went up the fleet of stairs. Take the other path now. Go through the door south of Jake when you enter. There should be Poison Ooze in here. Kill it and fill the Toxic Water with you're Potion Bottle. Now go through the door closest to the Toxic Water. Kill all the enemies in the passageways. Use the Time Bomb on the safe to get the Green Bottle. Now, head to the electronic locked door. Hit the switch that is located north of the door to release it. There are lots of mines in here so be careful. Enter the portal and kill the pathetic Naga. Watch out for the bubbles and proceed through the path. You will meet up with the Jester Spirit. Shoot him until he says something. Mention Laughlyn and ask Drake you will learn Volcano. Time to go to the big Drake building. Make sure to hire Frogtongue and Steelfleet. Do NOT hire Spatter because he will turn on you. Location: Drake Building Items: None Enemies: Mages, Samurai Warriors When you enter use the computer to access the elevators. Now on the second floor the Samurai Warriors will be talking a lot of smack but you can mow them down with you're shadowrunners. Use the computers to access the third floor plus Drakes account and 8,000 nuyen. Once again on the third floor mow down the Mage and Samurai Warriors. Get the elevator working again. Kill all the Samurai Warriors and get the data file and activate the elevator. This should be the fifth floor. Kill all enemies and debug the node and activate the elevator. Kill all enemies and activate the elevator again. Now, destroy the two Sentry guns and talk to the helicopter pilot. Tell him you want to go to Volcano and he'll take you. Location: Drake Volcano Items: None Enemies: Troll Deckers, Get off the chopper and enter. Take the elevator to Sub Level 1. In here you need to activate the elevator to Sub Level 2. The computer you're looking for is GDC. Take the elevator to SL 3. Here, you're looking for the computer DGC. Now go to sub level 3. Beware there is a Sentry gun guarding the entry. On this level there are many Drake accounts. They are not needed but you can take them if you're low on nuyen. Activate the Sub Level 4 elevator and enter it. Welcome to hell. This place is damn near impossible to beat. Run past the Sentry guns and enter the door. Kill the three Troll Deckers and enter the door. Kill the scientists trying to kill you and enter the door. To defeat this beast use the Jester Spirit. Use Invisibility to make the fight easier. When you take 50 HP off him or so Drake will be dead. Now enter the only other door in the room. Talk to the scientist. Ask him about Drake to learn Aneki and mention Head Computer. Now quit talking to him and you will be back at Drake Towers. You need to head to Aneki Buildings which is across the street from the Daily Station. Note: You now have access to the Assault Rifle and Full Body Suit at the Dark Blade Weapon Shop. I HIGHLY recommend buying them. Location: Aneki Items: None Enemies: Samurai Warriors, Mages When you arrive there will be a dude asking for a pass. You can kill him or avoid him altogether by casting Invisibility. Use the computer to activate the elevator. Go into the right screen here. Activate the elevator to enter the third floor. Do the same here to be transferred to the last floor of the game. Congratulations! You beat Shadowrun. Jake will board a helicopter with Kitsume (if you have her) and that will be the end. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- VII SHADOWRUNNERS --------------------- ____________________________________ {Name: Hamfist | {Type: Orc | {Price: 500 nuyen | {Found: Grim Reaper Club | {Stats: | {Body = 30/30 | {Magic = 0/0 | {Strength = 4 | {Charisma = 4 | {Weapon = T-250 Shotgun | {Armor = 1 Mesh Jacket | {Skills: | {Firearm = 1 | {Armed Combat = 1 | {Computer = 3 |___________________________________ {Notes: Hamfist is the first available shadowrunner in the game.
