INTRODUCTION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***ATTENTION! FEEDBACK REQUESTED!*** At this point, I need to know what people want. Should I next work on a scenario guide, a guide for general gameplay, or should I continue to work on this one, simply adding more factions? Contact info at the end of the FAQ. SD Gundam G Next is a strategy game for the Super Famicom system. Released in 1995, it is essentially an upgraded version of the game "SD Gundam X", which coincidentally has nothing to do with the anime "After War Gundam X". Both games are actually set in the Universal Century. If you want good information on the many Gundam anime series, or the mobile suits themselves, go to www.mahq.net. If, however, you want a guide to this game, you've come to the right place. SD Gundam G Next contains many mobile suits for each of its 12 factions, though many contain some of the same suits, and some have nearly identical fleets. Still, there are quite a few units. There is also a "Tec Level" which can be raised throughout Campaign and 'free' (choose any map) modes of play. This guide is here to explain how the tec level works, give a list of what suits and ships can be built at what level, and also later give a comprehensive guide of the units. I apologize for the lack of completeness of the groups. There are 12 groups, but I'm not quite familiar with all of them, the only UC series I've seen so far being MSG, 08MST, Z, 0080, 0083, and CCA. So I'm going to do a bit of research to complete this guide for the other groups. This game is hard to come by, and I can't provide a link to a rom, or encourage emulation, but should you have a rom, a translation of the unit names and the weapon names is located here: http://sdgx.tripod.com/ As far as the rest of the untranslated game goes, I may attempt to explain that in future FAQs (though many of the features beyond the basic ones I'm still unfamiliar with), but until then, it isn't TOO hard to figure out. Any weapon/unit name in parentheses is untranslated, and it's my best guess in the case of the weapons, or a visual description in the case of the units. There are very few of these. Version History: 4/29/03 v.1 - First version 5/4/03 v.11 - Corrected some misinformation, added a couple extra stats, beautified it quite a bit 5/5/03 v.2 - Added Principality of Zeon to all lists, finally added a comprehensive explanation of the "supply" stat, which I didn't entirely understand myself until this version. 5/6/03 v.25 - Added Delaz fleet, not too much new stuff so it's not worth a full tenth. 5/8/03 v.65 - Added AEUG, Axis/Haman's Neo-Zeon, and the groups that, near as I can tell, are Jamaican's Titans and Scirocco's Titans. All I have left to go are the Crossbone Vanguard (F91), the League Militaire & Zanscare Empire (V), and...one very odd group. 5/9/03 v1.0 - Added Char's Neo-Zeon, Crossbone Vanguard, League Militaire, Zanscare Empire, and a group that, for lack of a better name, I'm going to call the "Mobile Fighter Test Squad". It has the GM I, II, and III, the Jegan, the Javelin/Jamesgun, which are normal enough, and then the Shuffle Alliance (and the Master) from G Gundam, and the Wing Gundam from...Wing. And corrected a glaring problem with the weapons guide about weapons that need "charge". So yeah, now I'm done. Unless someone points out something that needs to be corrected, or I find something like that myself. Now time to start on the gameplay guide. 5/31/03 v1.1 - Added "Special Suits" Section, the suits you get (except for one) by resupplying an "Ace" level suit. Also fixed some confusing wording in some sections, and added an explanation of the 6/12 teams option in the menu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. Tec Levels? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this game, each group can only construct a few suits at the beginning of the game (provided you start at Tec level 0; you can start as far as 20, but can build up as high as 34). The third option on the menu (bring up by pressing X on the map screen) brings you to a place where you see your Tec Level and how much money you need to increase it to the next level. You get money by controlling cities on the moon and planet on the map, as well as any colonies that are floating around. You "control" the colonies by moving a mobile suit (NOT a ship or any unit classified as a "mobile armor") on top of it. The amount of money needed to increase your tec level increases each time. A chart is below. Even if you have lots of money, you can only increase your tec level once per turn. Understand? If you don't, email or IM me, or post on the GameFAQs board. You start off on "level 0" and it costs more each time you move up. Most of the time, anyway. And yes, I know some are the same. But I did check this. Mobile Suit & Ship Guide ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Each mobile suit, mobile armor, and ship has certain important statistics, such as the cost to make it, the number of turns needed to make it, its hit points, etc. There are also limitations on where a unit may operate. I haven't quite figured out what each symbol means, but some that I've deciphered indicate use in space, on the moon (not sure of this one), on earth, deep water, and the ability to fire a ranged shot. The guide will be divided into groups, and then by unit type. The units each group has depends on whether you choose 6 or 12 teams in the menu before the start of the game. This is the option in the upper right corner. I have all of my lists compiled for "12 team" mode. In 6-team mode, some teams are combined, as follows: Earth Federation: Earth Federation, AEUG, League Militaire Principality of Zeon: Principality of Zeon, Delaz Fleet, Char's Neo-Zeon Titans: Titans, Jupiter Empire Axis/Haman's Neo-Zeon: Itself Two-part Flag: Crossbone Vanguard, Zanscare Empire Mobile Fighter Test Squad: Itself Also, A mobile armor is essentially the same kind of unit in this game as a mobile suit, but they cannot "capture" bases, cities, ports, etc. So I will list them in the same place, but note in "Use" that they cannot capture. Key: MS/MA/ship name: name of the Mobile Suit/Mobile Armor/Ship Tec: Tec level required to build the unit T: Turns needed to build the unit HP: Hit Points, Energy, whatever; it runs out, the unit blows up MP: the format will be #/#, e.g. 4/32. This means that the suit has four movement points per turn, which without bad terrain means four spaces. The second number indicates the total number of movement points the suit has. When it reaches zero, the suit can move only one space per turn until it is "refueled" either in a factory or a ship. Use: Where you can use the unit. Certain units can only be used in space or on the moon, others Only on earth, and so on. for space reasons, I'll use the abbreviations M (for use in space and on the moon), E (for use on earth, both land and shallow water), D (for deep water), and C, for the ability to "capture". Ships and mobile armors cannot capture. For ships, the abbreviations are just S for space, M for the moon, and E for Earth, including deep water. CC: For ships, the number of units they can carry. Supply: A rather complicated stat for ships. It appears in the form of a ratio. The first number has to do with repairing damaged mechs put aboard it. The second number has to do with repairing/refueling itself and other ships. Ships with a number in the second part of the ratio have a command that allows them to repair/refuel themselves and any ships within one hex of them. This takes up the ship's turn. For both numbers, each time a ship repairs/refuels another unit, the corresponding number goes down by one. A Salamis, for example, could repair a suit 8 times, and a Columbus could repair a ship 20 times. These numbers can be restored by putting a ship in a "dock" (the same space as a factory). Range: For units with ranged fire, the range is put here. A * indicates an additional note for the unit below the chart. +++A. Mobile Suit/Mobile Armor Weapon Guide ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The different mobile suits are differentiated not only by their stats and cost, but also by the different kinds of weapons they use. Every one has at least two attacks, almost all have three or four, and some have additional ones as well. Some units can also transform in battle. This guide is here to tell you which ones do what. An explanation of each individual weapon will be here in future editions of the guide. X, Y, A, and B refer to the button used for that weapon. I've never based too much of my production on the weapons the suit uses, but you may care. If a weapon says "drain" next to it, in some cases you have to hold the button for a second or two to "charge up" the attack (If you get hit, you lose the charge). In ALL cases where it says drain, the attack will drain some of the energy/HP upon use by the number next to the word "drain". Here the number next to the - (as in "-16") refers to the amount of energy lost. Also, on any transformable suit, L transforms. Also in general: (Y) Is usually just a simple basic gun firing action. Usually it's a small beam, but in some cases it's a machine gun or bazooka blast. (X) Is almost always a melee attack of some sort...usually a beam saber. (B) and (A) are where you'll find the special weapons of a suit, be they Vulcans (which are good every once in a while), seeking-missiles, a charging-weapon, or something else. R "dodges" out of the battle for a second or two...the benefits of a 2-D battlefield. It's very good to dodge those pesky tracked missiles. For the most part, though, the enemy AI will be better than you, so only use this if you're good or if you're using savestates. Otherwise, choose Auto. +++A. Mobile Suit & Ship List by Tec Level ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At most Tec Levels, you'll get a new mobile suit or ship to build. Sometimes, though, you won't. Those times you may want to curse violently at the large amount of money you have just spent. But the later levels have some very, very cool units, so play on. Anyway, here is a list of the new units you can build with each group at each Tec Level. Some ships can only be built in space or moon "factories" and a small few can only be built in Earth "factories". The former will be denoted in the guide by an asterisk * and the latter by a pound sign #. Any time you can't build anything new, I skip to the first new level where you can build something new. Just the names are here. If you want more information on a unit, skip to the guide later in this FAQ. Also, keep in mind that you can play (as in one single player) on as many as six different groups at a time, meaning you can build every one of the units of all six of those groups. Special Mobile Suits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When your mobile suit fights battles, it "gains experience", you could say. When it fights enough battles, it will be a "higher level" suit. At a higher level, the suit will move faster, and if you let it go on auto-fight (Which you should), fight much better. After enough battles, or to do it faster, enough ships taken down (every ship taken down adds a level), the mobile suit (this also applies to ships, but it means a bit less for ships) will become an Ace (level 6). At this level, the suit takes an extra step up in performance. Some will even become a different suit. Before you get excited, this is usually just a color change, and a slight graphic change on the map. Sometimes a real graphic change on the unit, too, and occasionally a stat increase, will accompany this, but nothing too drastic. It's mostly for the purposes of novelty. Note, too that the change won't take place until the unit is refueled/recharged in a ship or dock. On Mobile Suits with weapons that have limited amounts, such as a Jegan's grenades, at least one of those should have more ammo. I'll just list stat increases here. An increase in MP is like putting on extra fuel tanks; the unit has a greater distance it can go, but it can only go the same distance each turn (unless indicated otherwise by "M+(some number)).
