I did the best I could on the translations using my powers as a B student in Japanese. Some of them are pretty liberal translations. There are still a lot of waza effects which I'm in the dark about so bear with me. I've also included a section with some comments on a few of the more troublesome translations so anyone whose curious can read that. I. Regular Waza II. Weapon Specific Waza III. It's most effectively used with characters out in front in formations like Desert Lance or Speculation. なぎ払い Sweep Down WP 0 Effect: chance of stun Comments: you'll need this waza to learn Sword Flash, but other than that, it's a weak attack. 失礼剣 Sudden Sword WP 1 Effect: first strike Comments: a weak attack but useful for slow characters or if you need to finish an enemy quickly. かすみ二段 Two-step Mist Cut WP 2 Effect: ??? Comments: a weak attack which I think might also have a chance of inflicting Blind status on an enemy. Not too sure though... 亜空間斬り X-Zone Chop WP 3 Effect: - Comments: attacks a portion of enemy's Max HP. Very effective on some and ineffective on others. Some tough enemies with high HP are very susceptible to this. 十文字斬り Cross Cut WP 4 Effect: anti-undead Comments: a good attack against undead and good for other enemies, too. 飛水断ち Scattering Water Cut WP 4 Effect: ??? Comments: a decent attack that looks neat. May be effective against certain fish-type enemies but I'm not sure. 残像剣 Afterimage Sword WP 4 Effect: - Comments: attacks multiple enemies but no more than three. Not that strong. 龍尾返し Dragon Tail Flap WP 6 Effect: - Comments: seems to be a somewhat powerful sword attack. バックスタッブ Backstab WP 7 Effect: chance of instant kill Comments: semi-powerful attack. Doesn't seem to instant kill very often. 分身剣 Splitting Image WP 7 Effect: serious damage Comments: perhaps the most powerful attack. Damage increases with higher sword levels more than usual. Does good damage but sometimes does very good damage. Cheap too. 疾風剣 Hurricane Sword WP 8 Effect: ??? Comments: not sure about this one. It may have some effect or it may just be a somewhat powerful sword attack. 剣閃 Sword Flash WP 9 Effect: - Comments: powerful sword attack which damages any enemies in it's swath. You'll have to use Sweep Down to learn this. 五月雨斬り Summer Shower WP 10 Effect: first strike Comments: a more powerful version of Sudden Sword. Expensive but sometimes you just need to strike first. 黄龍剣 Golden Dragon Sword WP 12 Effect: - Comments: a solid high-powered sword attack. ==================================================================== +++++++++++++ ++ 大剣 ++ ++Big Sword++ +++++++++++++ ==================================================================== みね打ち Hilt Strike WP 0 Effect: chance of paralysis Comments: doesn't do any damage but useful for stopping dangerous enemies. Seems to work well on humanoid and beast enemies. 巻き打ち Wind-up Strike WP 1 Effect: - Comments: Just your average big sword attack. It's cheap but you might as well use Sweep Draw instead. 無形の位 Formless Stance WP 2 Effect: avoid non-aerial enemy attacks Comments: works just like the regular sword waza Parry. Keep in mind that, like any counter attack or block, it doesn't always work. 払い抜け Sweep Draw WP 2 Effect: - Comments: cheap waza for attacking small-time enemies early in the game. You'll need to use this to learn Headwind. 地走り Ground Surge WP 4 Effect: earth element Comments: doesn't work on aerial enemies. Damages target and any enemies directly behind. You'll have to use this to learn Harvest Moon. スマッシュ Smash WP 4 Effect: - Comments: a powerful attack for early in the game. You can use it to learn Bull Crash but it's not necessary to do so. 切り落とし Drop Cut WP 4 Effect: counter non-aerial attack Comments: negates enemy's attack if successful. Useful against beasts and humanoids which tend to attack physically a lot. ブルクラッシュ Bull Crash WP 6 Effect: - Comments: more powerful version of Smash. 無刀取り Barehand Catch WP 7 Effect: avoid enemy attack, steal weapon Comments: works just like any other counter attack but if the user has a free weapon slot they will have a chance of taking the weapon used on them and counter attacking with it for big damage. 逆風の太刀 Headwind WP 7 Effect: - Comments: Powered up version of Sweep Draw. You'll have to use Sweep Draw to learn it. You'll also have to use Headwind if you want to learn Chaotic Flowerfall. 地ずり残月 Harvest Moon WP 9 Effects: - Comments: just about as strong as Chaotic Flowerfall but a little less expensive and a bit harder to learn. Use Ground Surge to learn this. 乱れ雪月花 Chaotic Flowerfall WP 11 Effect: - Comments: Most powerful big sword waza. Looks neat. Must use Headwind to learn this. ==================================================================== +++++++++ ++ 斧 ++ ++ Axe ++ +++++++++ ==================================================================== トマホーク Tomahawk WP 1 Effect: - Comments: can hit enemies in front or back rows. An inexpensive waza that leads to a lot of the more powerful axe waza. ウォークライ War Cry WP 1 Effect: user's attack increases the more it's used Comments: not that great. The attack bonus seems to fade slightly with each attack you do. You could spend the whole battle powering up but by the time you're ready to attack, the battle would probably be over. スカルクラッシュ Skull Crash WP 3 Effect: anti-undead Comments: useful in the beginning of the game. Damage is kinda weak. 大木断 Big Chop WP 4 Effect: extra damage to plants Comments: useful until you learn Pine Chop Dynamic. ハイパーハンマー Hyper Hammer WP 4 Effect: chance of stun Comments: seems to miss often but maybe that's just because it's an axe waza. Good early game waza. アクセルターン Accele Turn WP 5 Effect: - Comments: never get to use this one much. Seems to do about the same damage as Hyper Hammer. ブレードロール Blade Roll WP 5 Effect: chance of stun Comments: hits target and surrounding enemies. A good attack for for any point in the game. メガホーク Megahawk WP 6 Effect: - Comments: attacks all enemies. You'll need to use Tomahawk to learn this and Sky Drive. 次元断 Dimensional Chop WP 6 Effect: chance of instant kill Comments: this is a handy waza to keep around. It's the only waza that can instant kill more than one enemy. マキ割りダイナミック Pine Chop Dynamic WP 8 Effect: anti-plant Comments: You'll find yourself using this a lot in major battles until you can learn Sky Drive. Does good damage and easy to learn. This is a big step up from Accele Turn, Hyper Hammer, and Big Chop so make sure any axe users learn at least this. スカイドライブ Sky Drive WP 9 Effect: - Comments: Powered up version of Tomahawk. Can target enemies front or back. Useful and powerful. デッドリースピン Deadly Spin WP 10 Effect: ??? Comments: I think this may have an effect but I'm not sure what it might be. You'll have to use Blade Roll to learn this. It's hard to learn but doesn't seem to pack the punch that you'd expect of an expensive axe waza. ==================================================================== +++++++++++ ++ 杖 ++ ++ Staff ++ +++++++++++ ==================================================================== 脳天割り Crown Split WP 1 Effect: chance of sleep Comments: not a strong attack but it can get cause sleep which seems to work well on humanoids and beasts. Try it out, you may be surprised that some of the more powerful enemies can be put to sleep. ジャストミート Justice Mete WP 2 Effect: counter non-aerial attacks Comments: seems to work just like all the other counter attacks. Though it's probably a little more effective on undead since it's a staff. ハードヒット Hard Hit WP 3 Effect: - Comments: a normal attack with a little bit more pop. You'll need to use this if you want to learn Turtle Shell Split. エアロビート Aero Beat WP 3 Effect: anti-aerial Comments: seems to miss a lot. Does good damage for a 3 WP waza though. You can use this to learn Deadly Gravity Wave but it's not necessary. 回転撃 Rotation Attack WP 4 Effect: - Comments: nothing special here. May do a little bit more than Hard Hit but then it costs a bit more. 骨砕き Bone Crusher WP 4 Effect: anti-undead Comments: it comes in handy in some of the early areas. Good for those medium strength enemies you don't want to waste WP on. 大震撃 Earthquake Attack WP 6 Effect: chance of stun Comments: Damages and stuns all non-aerial enemies. Works best if the user is faster than most enemies. Annoying when enemies use it on you. 活殺重力波 Deadly Gravity Wave WP 6 Effect: lower target's speed Comments: I think this may also do extra damage to aerial enemies. Can't seem to remember this one very well. 削岩撃 Rock Breaker WP 7 Effect: extra damage to enemies made of stone. Comments: this does pretty good damage compared to the previous staff waza. There aren't very many enemies in the game made of stone though. グランドスラム Grand Slam WP 9 Effect: - Comments: This attack damages all non-aerial enemies at the end of the battle round. You'll need to use Earthquake to learn it. かめごうら割り Turtle Shell Split WP 11 Effect: lower enemy defense power Comments: it's not as powerful as some of the other weapon's best waza but it is the most powerful staff waza not counting Draw Sword Swallow Return. Plus, it lowers the targets defense so each time you use it, it should do more damage. ==================================================================== +++++++++++++++ ++ 小剣 ++ ++Small Sword++ +++++++++++++++ ==================================================================== フェイント Feint WP 0 Effect: chance of stun Comments: doesn't do any damage but if you want to stun an enemy with a small sword then you'll want this. アクセルスナイパー Accele Sniper WP 1 Effect: ??? Comments: judging from the name, this waza might do some decrease to an enemy's speed but I'm not too sure. Perhaps it does nothing. The damage it does is weak but I guess it's excellent when compared to the damage done by Feint, Imprison, and Mind Stare-- which is 0. インプリズン Imprison WP 1 Effect: chance of paralysis Comments: similar to Feint except it paralyzes an enemy. マインドステア Mind Stare WP 2 Effect: chance of confusion Comments: similar to Imprison except it confuses enemies. マタドール Matador WP 3 Effect: counter non-aerial attacks Comments: a counter-attack for small sword user's. Like all counters, it doesn't always work. スネークショット Snake Shot WP 4 Effect: anti-frog Comments: this does instant kill on frogs. A good small sword waza for early game. ライトニングピアス Lightning Pierce WP 5 Effect: first strike Comments: small sword users will probably use this a lot until Screwdriver comes along. スクリュードライバー Screwdriver WP 7 Effect: anti-female Comments: a good waza that you can learn pretty early on from Fat Robin. Fun to use on females. サザンクロス Southern Cross WP 7 Effect: anti-undead Comments: a good waza for small swords. You'll probably use this a lot since Final Letter is difficult to learn and it does more damage to single enemies than Firecracker. ファイナルレター Final Letter WP 9 Effect: chance of instant kill Comments: an excellent small sword waza...the best, really. Does good damage and may even finish the battle early for you. ファイアクラッカー Fire Cracker WP 10 Effect: - Comments: attacks all enemies but doesn't seem to do much damage for a 10 WP waza. ==================================================================== +++++++++ ++ 槍 ++ ++Spear++ +++++++++ ==================================================================== 足払い Leg Sweep WP 0 Effect: chance of stun Comments: attempts to stun a column of enemies. Doesn't do any damage though. 石突き Rock Stab WP 0 Effect: ??? Comments: I think this might do extra damage to enemies made of stone. It's free and it's more powerful than the normal attack. Good in the beginning. 二段突き Two-step Thrust WP 2 Effect: - Comments: a good spear waza for early in the game. Use it as much as you want because it can help you learn other techs like Double Dragon Wave and Triple Supremacy. エイミング Aiming WP 2 Effect: 100% Hit rate Comments: you're probably better off using Two-step Thrust but if you want to learn Beast Killer you'll need to use this. 脳削り Brain Scrape WP 2 Effect: chance to confuse Comments: This waza doesn't cause confuse very often and the damage is a bit less than Two-step Thrust. チャージ Charge WP 3 Effect: - Comments: a little bit stronger than Two-step Thrust. You can use this to learn Spiral Charge but it's not necessary. ミヅチ Mizuchi WP 3 Effect: chance of poison Comments: I like this waza. It even poisons some of the stronger enemies like Red Dragons. It can also target enemies in the back rows. かざぐるま Windmill WP 3 Effect: counter non-aerial attack Comments: the standard counter-attack for spear users. 大車輪 Big Wheel WP 5 Effect: wind element Comments: this is one handy waza. For 5 WP it does pretty good damage to all enemies. I almost always have somebody ready to use this. 双龍波 Double Dragon Wave WP 6 Effect: wind element Comments: attacks target and any enemies behind it. A high- medium level powered attack. 活殺獣神衝 Beast Killer WP 6 Effect: ??? Comments: I think this does extra damage to beasts. You need to use Aiming to learn this. It's power is about medium. スパイラルチャージ Spiral Charge WP 7 Effect: - Comments: a high-medium level attack to one enemy. You're probably better off using Double Dragon Wave in most situations. 流星衝 Shooting Star WP 9 Effect: chance to paralyze Comments: probably the best spear waza not counting Round Slicer. It can target any enemy and may even paralyze them if they survive. It's difficult to learn, though. 無双三段 Triple Supremacy WP 10 Effect: - Comments: a high powered spear waza that's not too difficult to learn. It's comparable to Shooting Star in strength but can't target enemies in the back rows. ==================================================================== +++++++++ ++ 弓 ++ ++ Bow ++ +++++++++ ==================================================================== 影ぬい Shadow Sew WP 1 Effect: chance of paralysis Comments: doesn't do any damage but it can target any enemy for paralysis. Since the early bow wazas aren't so strong, you might want to use this to support your better fighters. You'll also need to use this to learn Shadow Kill. でたらめ矢 Random Arrow WP 2 Effect: - Comments: shoots arrows all over the place. Not very powerful but that's to be expected of a 2 WP bow waza. You'll need to use this to learn Million Dollar. 挑発射ち Pot Shot WP 2 Effect: ??? Comments: I suspect this does something but I'm not sure what. The game description says something about causing the enemy to lose thier composure. Perhaps the target will miss more often? The damage isn't that great so you may be better off using Id Break. イド・ブレイク Id Break WP 3 Effect: chance of confusion Comments: does mild damage and might confuse an enemy. ビーストチェイサー Beast Chaser WP 3 Effect: anti-beast Comments: a bit more powerful than Id Break. Still, not very powerful. フラッシュアロー Flash Arrow WP 4 Effect: chance of blind Comments: a powered up version of Random Arrow. Though the difference in strength isn't much. 影殺し Shadow Kill WP 4 Effect: chance of instant kill Comments: doesn't do any damage but it has a high success rate of instant kill. Pretty useful but kinda difficult to learn. Use Shadow Sew to learn this. 瞬速の矢 Instant Arrow WP 5 Effect: first strike Comments: works like Lightning Pierce for the small sword. Use it as much as you want because you can learn Continuous Shot from it. サイドワインダー Side Winder WP 5 Effect: anti-frog Comments: works like Snake Shot for the small sword causing instant kill to frogs. Like most of the bow waza, it's power is in it's use rather than attack strength. ショットウェイブ Shot Wave WP 6 Effect: anti-aerial Comments: fairly easy to learn and fairly powerful too. A good bow waza until you learn Plasma Shot. 連射 Continuous Shot WP 7 Effect: serious damage Comments: this waza is similar to Splitting Image in that it's damage is somewhat randomized and increases a lot with higher weapon skill. This is the bow waza of choice for any major battle. Use Instant Arrow to learn this. プラズマショット Plasma Shot WP 8 Effect: chance of paralysis Comments: a good solid bow waza. If you don't want to take the time to learn Continuous Shot or Million Dollar, you should at least get your bow user to learn this. ミリオンダラー Million Dollar WP 10 Effect: - Comments: an excellent waza however you want to look at it. With a fast character, this is usually all you need to end a battle quickly. 心眼でたらめ矢 Inner-eye Random Arrow WP 18 Effect: 100% Hit rate Comments: Happens if you use Random Arrow when blind. Since most helmets and suits protect from blind status and few monsters can cause it, you'd really have to try to get yourself blinded. ==================================================================== ++++++++++++++++ ++ 体術 ++ ++Martial Arts++ ++++++++++++++++ ==================================================================== キック Kick WP 0 Effect: - Comments: it's a kick. Like most martial arts waza, it does good damage to undead. サミング Thumbing WP 0 Effect: chance of blind Comments: I don't think this does any damage, just causes blind. 集気法 Gather Energy WP 0 Effect: Restore portion of users's HP Comments: a cheap way to restore your HP a little. Comes in handy from time to time, especially if you haven't taken the time to develop your magic skills. You'll need to use this to learn Evil Smash. カウンター WP 1 Effect: counter non-aerial attack Comments: a counter-attack for martial arts users. Very dangerous when enemies use this. 空気投げ Air Throw WP 1 Effect: chance of blind/stun Comments: not sure whether or not this works on aerial enemies. It's only 1 WP so it's not surprising the damage it does is weak. ジャイアントスイング Giant Swing WP 3 Effect: chance of stun Comments: this waza will sometimes stun the user as well. The damage it does is a little less than Lightning Kick. It seems to miss a lot but it's fun to watch. 稲妻キック Lightning Kick WP 3 Effect: - Comments: a cheap waza that does fair damage for early in the game. You may want to use Tankei instead because you can learn some good waza from it. 短剄 Tankei WP 4 Effect: - Comments: your basic power punch. It's possible to learn Dimensional Persona and Train Energy Fist from this but it's not necessary. 逆一本 Reversal WP 5 Effect: chance of stun Comments: yet another throw that stuns. You may be better off using Lightning Kick instead of this one. 超次元ペルソナ Super Dimensional Persona WP 6 Effect: chance of instant kill Comments: this does OK damage similar to Evil Smash. It looks neat and instant kill is never a bad thing. 活殺破邪法 Evil Smash WP 6 Effect: anti-undead Comments: a high medium level powered attack. Kinda difficult to learn. 練気拳 Train Energy Fist WP 7 Effect: - Comments: the only martial arts waza that attacks all enemies. Very useful and decent damage. Use it as much as you want because it's the only way to learn Tiger Break. 流星蹴り Meteor Kick WP 8 Effect: ??? Comments: I think this may stun but I don't use it enough to be sure. Does damage similar in strength to Niagra Buster but it seems to miss a lot more than I like. It's fun to watch though. ナイアガラバスター Niagara Buster WP 8 Effect: anti-fish Comments: this does extra damage to certain types of sea monsters including the Water Abyss Guardian. It may also stun but I'm not sure. It does pretty decent damage. タイガーブレイク Tiger Break WP 12 Effect: - Comments: about equal in strength to Furious Dragonfire Fist but a lot harder to learn. You'll need to use Train Energy Fist if you want to learn this. 龍神烈火拳 Furious Dragonfire Fist WP 15 Effect: - Comments: most powerful martial arts waza. I'd say that it's about like Golden Dragon Sword for the regular sword or Chaotic Flowerfall for the big sword in strength. Not too difficult to learn either. Use this to learn Demi- Lune Echo デミルーン・エコー Demi-Lune Echo WP 4 Effect: damage target and enemy behind Comment: if you can manage to learn this early it can be fairly useful. Every once in awhile it will be the exact waza you need. You'll need to use Demi-Lune to learn this. ブラッディソード 降魔の剣 Bloody Sword Demon Summon Sword ファイナルストライク Final Strike WP all Effect: breaks the Bloody Sword/Demon Summon Sword Comment: early in the game this does great damage but later on you'd have to be pretty friggin' desparate to need it. This does less damage as your WP decreases from its max. スパイダーソード Spider Sword スパイダーネット Spider Net WP 1 Effect: chance of instant kill Comment: doesn't do any damage but it's the cheapest waza that can instant kill. I'm not really sure how often it works though. ブレードネット Blade Net WP 3 Effect: ??? Comment: does damage and looks neat. That's about all I know about this one. スクリーマー Screamer スケアーボイス Scare Voice WP 4 Effect: chance of confusion Comment: doesn't do any damage but can cause confusion in multiple enemies. Plus, if it works at all like the Scare Voice that enemies use on you, the more you use it on enemies the worse their condition gets. ファイナルストライク Final Strike WP all Effect: breaks your Screamer Comment: early in the game this does great damage but later on you'd have to be pretty friggin' desparate to need it. This does less damage as your WP decreases from its max. イビルアイ Evil Eye 魅惑の瞳 Beguile Stare WP 3 Effect: chance of charm Comment: doesn't do any damage but is one of the few wazas that can charm an enemy. If you have high charm and you feel lucky... 氷の瞳 Ice Stare WP 3 Effect: chance of paralysis Comment: no damage but might paralyze the enemy. 七星剣 Seven Stars Sword スターバースト Star Burst WP 6 Effect: - Comment: this waza will change to Star Stream after using it once in battle. Doesn't do very good damage for a 6 WP waza. スターストレーム Star Stream WP 6 Effect: - Comment: this looks and sounds neat and it does decent damage to all enemies. This waza will change to Star Burst after using it once in battle. ==================================================================== +++++++++++++ ++ 大剣 ++ ++Big Sword++ +++++++++++++ ==================================================================== 妖刀龍光 Youtouryuukyo 退魔神剣 Exorcism WP 3 Effect: anti-undead Comment: this damages undead enemies only. Does very good damage considering the amount of WP it costs to use. A good waza to have on hand since undead pop up most anywhere. トリプルソード Triple Sword ダンシングソード Dancing Sword WP 3 Effect: changes Dancing Sword into a small sword Comment: after using this waza, the Triple Sword changes into a small sword and Dancing Sword can no longer be used. Does excellent damage for a 3 WP waza though. 氷の剣 Frozen Sword 霧氷剣 Ice Mist Sword WP 9 Effect: - Comment: the only big sword waza capable of damaging all enemies. Does good damage and is fairly easy to learn. Somewhat hard to learn, though. If you have an axe user, make sure they learn this because once they do, you'll wonder how you ever got by without it. You need to use Tomahawk to learn this. バイキングアクス Viking Axe ジンギスカン Ghengis Khan WP 3 Effect: - Comment: not very impressive as far as I can tell. Seems to be just the usual for a 3 WP waza. バスターアクス Buster Axe ファイナルストライク Final Strike WP all Effect: breaks your Buster Axe Comment: early in the game this does great damage but later on you'd have to be pretty friggin' desparate to need it. This does less damage as your WP decreases from its max. ホークウィンド Hawkwind オービットボーラ Orbit Borer WP 11 Effect: - Comment: for as hard as it is to learn and for how much WP it takes this waza doesn't do as much damage as you'd expect. Yeah, it does good damage but that's because it costs 11 WP. I prefer Sky Drive instead. You'll need to use Tomahawk to learn this. 魔王の斧 Demon King's Axe ファイナルストライク Final Strike WP all Effect: breaks Demon King's Axe for the battle Comment: unlike the other Final Strike, this can be used more than once. It still takes all your WP though. ==================================================================== +++++++++++ ++ 杖 ++ ++ Staff ++ +++++++++++ ==================================================================== 栄光の杖 Staff of Glory ブレス Bless WP 1 Effect: ??? Comment: I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know what Bless does. I think it raises magic defense or regular defense but I really can't be sure. ゴールデンバット Golden Bat 振り逃げ Escape Swing WP 5 Effect: invisible Comment: this does mild damage to an enemy but it also hides the user from physical attacks. If you use any other attack while invisible, then the effects will wear off. Very useful for the tournament in Zweig. マイダスハンド Midas Hand WP 4 Effect: chance of instant kill Comment: this doesn't do any damage but it might kill an enemy and give you a little bit more gold after the battle. 仕込み杖 Sword Staff 居合い抜き Unsheathe Cut WP 3 Effect: changes Sword Staff into small sword Comment: this does really good damage for a 3 WP waza. It's difficult to learn though. But, after you use it the Sword Staff turns into a small sword for the rest of the battle. You'll need to use this to learn Draw-Slash-Return. 抜刀つばめ返し Draw-Slash-Return WP 7 Effect: changes Sword Staff into small sword Comment: perhaps the most powerful staff waza. Can only be used once per battle, though. Very difficult to learn considering you must use Unsheathe Cut, which can be used only once per battle. ルーンの杖 Rune Staff スペルエンハンス Spell Enhance WP 1 Effect: ??? Comment: I suspect this increases the effectiveness/damage of a character's spells. Never been able to tell for certain though. シャッタースタッフ Shatter Staff WP 1 Effect: breaks your Rune Staff Comment: this will heal HP for all your characters in a battle. Not sure what determines how much HP is healed but it's usually a lot. A good waza to have on hand for the last battle. 生命の杖 Life Staff パワーヒール Power Heal WP 0 Effect: restore lost HP Comment: comes in handy early in the game but later on, using magic to heal is much more effective. It's cheap and the damage is so-so. ナイチンゲール Nightingale ナースヒール Nurse Heal WP 2 Effect: restore lost HP Comment: similar to Power Heal for the Life Staff. シルバーフルーレ Silver Fleuret ウェアバスター Were Buster WP 1 Effect: anti-beast Comment: does extra damage to beast enemies which is usually any enemies with hair. For other enemies, there are other more effective small sword waza. クリスナーガ Kris Naga 蛇剣 Snake Sword WP 7 Effect: instant kill frogs Comment: this will damage all enemies and kill anything looking like a frog. It comes in handy from time to time. Seems to miss more than I like but for the damage it does and just 1 WP, this waza is a steal. ハルベルト / 獣人の槍 Halberd / Beast-Man's Spear スウィング Swing WP 2 Effect: chance of stun Comment: this is the powered up version of Leg Sweep. It does damage and can stun a vertical row of enemies. Don't underestimate this waza. For 2 WP, fair damage, and the chance to stun multiple enemies this is a really good deal. ウィルスピア Will Spear サイコバースト Psycho Burst WP 5 Effect: ??? Comment: this waza seems to do weak damage. Perhaps it's effective on a certain type of enemy or lowers some enemy stats. But for the damage that I've seen it do, it's really not all that great. 聖王の槍 Divine King's Spear 勝利の歌 Victory Song WP 3 Effect: raise group's attack power Comment: the effects of this seem to last only one round. If you added up the bonus damage given to everyone's attack it'd probably be less than if you just had the character attack with a medium powered attack. Play with it and see what you think. 竜槍スマウグ Dragon's Smaug スウィング Swing WP 2 Effect: chance of stun Comment: this is the powered up version of Leg Sweep. It does damage and can stun a vertical row of enemies. Don't underestimate this waza. For 2 WP, fair damage, and the chance to stun multiple enemies this is a really good deal. ラウンドスライサー Round Slicer WP 7 Effect: anti-aerial Comment: I've never learned this but I'm told it does really good damage. I think you have to use Swing to learn this. ==================================================================== +++++++++ ++ 弓 ++ ++ Bow ++ +++++++++ ==================================================================== カナリアの弓 Canary Bow レゾナンスウィープ Resonance Weep WP 1 Effect: chance of charm Comment: doesn't do any damage but can charm multiple enemies. Could be very effective in the right situations. ドビーの弓 Dobi's Bow 死ね矢 Death Arrow WP 3 Effect: ??? Comment: you'd think this would instant kill but no. Damage isn't that great either. Use Instant Arrow to learn this. 妖精の弓 Fairy Bow 妖精の矢 Fairy Arrow WP 2 Effect: chance of paralyze Comment: this is a nice substitute for Shadow Sew since it does damage. If you need a bow user to paralyze an enemy then use this. Other than that, you should have better bow waza by the time you learn this. ==================================================================== ------------------------ |III. Translation Notes| ------------------------ Sword Waza ---------- 亜空間斬り X-Zone Chop: could be "Beyond Space Chop" but I thought all the Final Fantasy fans would be able to relate to this. 分身剣 Splitting Image: "bunshin" type attacks appear a lot in video games and anime. A person splits into many selves and whatever. I'm quite proud of this translation since it sort of has a built-in pun. Runner-up translations included "Illusion Sword" and "Dead Ringer" (which, also contains a pun if you see how it looks when used in battle.) 五月雨斬り Summer Shower: the first three characters mean "early summer rain". It refers to a specific type of rain that sometimes comes to areas of Japan in early summer. It's characterized by small raindrops made visible by the sunlight and the fact that it has a distinct rhythm of sound due to the way it falls in layers. Big Sword Waza -------------- 地走り Ground Surge: you know how Bugs Bunny would travel underground leaving behind a long trail of raised dirt? Well, the kanji in this waza are meant to describe that phenomenon when it's caused by an earthquake. Some of the runner-up translations were "Earth Mover", "Rotatiller", and "Gaia's Pulse". 地ずり残月 Harvest Moon: to be honest, this translation is only very loosely based on the kanji. But wait till you hear the literal translation: "Earth Slide Fading Moon". Now doesn't mine sound a lot better? I could've called it "Earth Slide Zantsuki" but how cool is that? Not very. 乱れ雪月花 Chaotic Flowerfall: rather than being a name for the waza, the Japanese in this waza describes what happens when you use it. Its name is composed of the kanji for "confusion" "snow" "moon" and "flower". Now if you were Japanese and someone showed you the name for this waza you'd get an image in your mind of something like "a confusing blizzard of flower petals made to look like snow because of the moonlight." I went with "Chaotic Flowerfall" for the sake of brevity. I believe this is called "Tres Flores" in SaGa Frontier and might be referred to as "Beautiful Three" in the U.S. translation of Legend of Mana. Staff ------ 居合い抜き Unsheathe Cut: this is a based on a particular style of samurai sword stroke where the samurai quickly draws out a sword and makes a fast, fluid slice. The translation isn't literal but it gets most of the idea across. 抜刀つばめ返し Draw-Slash-Return: this is a lot like "Unsheathe Cut" in that it's the same style of sword stroke except that after slicing, the sword is returned to its sheath. My pathetic guess at a literal translation would be "draw out/let loose the sword that flutters like a swallow and then returns." Folks, I apologize for that absurd translation but that's the best I could muster. Spear ------ 無双三段 Triple Supremacy: the literal translation would be something like "No Comparison Triple Step" which, just doesn't sound quite right. So... Bow ------ 挑発射ち Pot Shot: this is supposed to be a shot fired at the enemy in order to taunt/challenge them so that they lose their composure. "Challenger" would have worked but I just thought "Pot Shot" was so darn clever. Though, now that I think about it, "Hot Shot" isn't bad either. 心眼でたらめ矢 Inner-eye Random Arrow: have you ever seen one of those choppy- saki movies where the master blind- folds the student and tells him to "See without seeing, Little One." Well, that's what is meant by "inner-eye". Martial Arts ------------ 短剄 Tankei: I've no friggen' idea. The second kanji character is supposed to mean "beheading" but is really out of date to the point that some Japanese don't even recognize it. (How many of you know what "victuals" or "cuckold" means?) So I just opted for the romaji. 練気拳 Train Energy Fist: this is "train" as in practice. The user is using the enemies to practice his or her Energy Fist. 龍神烈火拳 Furious Dragonfire Fist: could also be "Flaming Fists of the Furious Dragon God" or maybe "Furious Flaming Fists of the Dragon God." Misc. ------ 七星剣 Seven Stars Sword: literally, should be "Big Dipper Sword" or the "Ursa Major Sword" would work.
