Okay, if you haven't played Pocky & Rocky yet, do so. It's an awesome game, and I was lucky enough to get it when it was brand new (although I'd have saved money if I had gotten it used today). I think it's pretty obvious that there are going to be spoilers in this guide, so I won't bother warning you before every stage. Anyway, let's get right down to it.. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Section [2]: Version History ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- 08/11/2001 - 08/15/2001 v.1.00 First version. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Section [3]: Contact info ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- If you need to contact me for whatever reason... For the most part, there is only one way to get through a level. I may expand this area later if I feel the need to do so. Stage 1 - Pocky's Practice Stage Time limit: None The first level is a practice stage. There's no time limit, and I don't think it's possible to die. It's usually a good idea to play the practice level if you've never played Pocky and Rocky 2 before, or even if you have. When the spirit(?) asks you if you need a lesson, leave the little fireball on yes and press Y. If you don't want to practice, move the fireball to no and hit Y to go on to stage 2. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 2 - Exotic Country Road Time limit: 400 You start the stage with one key. Make your way through the level until you come to a wall with a small door. Inside the man will tell you goblins have taken over the left path. Take the left path anyway, so you can get Tengy on your team (It may be possible to get him by going to the right, but I'm not completely sure). He's behind a locked door after a shop. * Boss of stage 2: Canimal This is one of the easier bosses, not the easiest, though. Basically all you need to do is hurl your buddy at him a few times while tossing cards and avoiding his flying claws. His attack pattern is fairly simple. He'll move back and forth while tossing claws (once his sheild is gone he uses both hands) and then jumps around a bit, then continues throwing claws. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 3 - October Fields Time limit: 450 Go into the first house you see in the level to get some easy cash. When you get to the point where there are water zombies, go into the first house you see to get Scarecrow on your team. You can use him as a pogo stick. * Boss of stage 3: Foxy Beating Foxy can be very easy if you have Bomber Bob as your partner. Otherwise just keep throwing your partner at him. Foxy's attack patern is a bit more complex than Canimal's. At first, Foxy will dash back and forth across the top of the screen, throwing spinning discs and little foxes. When you get Foxy down to one candle, then it gets tough. Foxy will turn into a Ninetales looking thing and run around shooting out little foxes. While Foxy is standing still, you cannot hurt him. You have to attack while he is moving around. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 4 - Bridge over Kappa River Time limit: 400 You'll probably want to go to the right at the first fork. Once you get to the part where you can go into the water, head to the left to buy some supplies, if you need any. Then just continue on to fight Impy. * Boss of stage 4: Impy I think the Impy fight is the only place where I actually wanted to be Tengy. Impy is a pain to beat, since he doesn't seem to want to stand still long enough to get any good hits on him. My strategy is this: Run around avoiding Impy until he stops to throw a spinning disc at you. When he does, either hurl your partner at him, or toss cards. It may take a while, but eventually you'll beat him. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 5 - Demon's Corridor Time limit: 350 This stage is pretty straight forward, you automatically hop on the mad dog, so all you have to do is move left and right for the most part. No partners can be used in this level (I think?). * Miniboss of stage 5: Gizmo This is the first miniboss in the game. He's fairly easy to beat. All you have to do is hurl cards at him, when you stay in place long enough, he'll breathe flames. What you need to do is wait for him to get ready to breathe fire and then move out of the way. After you do this enough he will burst into flames and begin flying around. Avoid the feiry rings and concentrate on hitting him. After a few more hits he'll be out of your way. * Boss of stage 5: Volta Volta is somewhat difficult due to the fact that you're forced to ride the dog. His first attacks will be throwing sparks at Pocky. This shouldn't be much of a problem. The thing to watch out for is when Volta beats his chest. When he does this, try to get out of the way. He'll shoot two.. well, I guess it's lightning, but regardless of what it is, avoid it. After you knock one candle off of him, he'll start shooting sparks in sets of three in an attempt to trap you in a corner so he can shoot lightning. After you knock the second candle off, he'll repeat the same attacks, but faster. When he has two candles left, he will shoot the little round element symbols that are around his head at you. These can be destroyed with cards. When he's down to one, he'll use a combination of his attacks. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 6 - Winter Wonderland Time limit: 450 There seems to be a snow level in every game, and Pocky & Rocky 2 is no exception. If you take the path from the start, you can get Digger on your team. Note to self: Check to see which way to go to get the mole * Miniboss of stage 6: Kristel This is actually rather easy. Just avoid the snowflakes and the icecicles and you should be fine. * Boss of stage 6: Demon Gate Yes, that IS a door you're fighting, and yes, it's very easy to beat. First thing you need to get rid of are the shoulders. Once the shoulders are gone, he will attempt to punch you, but he aims for the center of the screen, so if you hang to the corners you'll be fine. After he punches with both hands, he'll spit a ball out, which will go down the center of the screen. Once the ball is gone, ice spikes will come out of the ground. These are usually in the same place each time, so find one safe spot and stay there for most of the battle. Once the spikes are gone, either toss cards at the face, or your partner. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 7 - Demon Island Time limit: 500 Ottobot is in the first door you come to. He's a great partner, my personal favorite. Once you have Ottobot, you can get into the store that's cheaper. Don't buy anything from the first one, since the prices are MUCH higher than the store behind the rocks. Use the magic button and fly over the lava to get to the cheap store, or just lift the rocks with the magic. * Boss of stage 7: Beady His line "No mercy for the humans" is fine, however my partner at the time was a robot, but he didn't seem to care. Anyway, my strategy is to run around avoiding the beads until he stops and throws them out in front of him, which seems to lag my SNES slightly. When he does this, I hurl my partner at him. After the beads have been thrown out, they go flying, and then explode. Be careful not go get stuck in the explosion (as if I need to tell you that). ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 8 - Dragon in the Sky Time limit: 350 This one pretty much plays itself. You're stuck riding on Gordon, so there's not alot of options for which path you take. I should point out that the flaming skulls can be destroyed, despite my initial thoughts. Throwing cards doesn't seem to do it, but using the wand seems to work rather well. * Miniboss of stage 8: Thundercat What I wouldn't give to have the Sword of Omens against this thing.. It only appears to have two attacks, one where it dives and tries to claw Pocky, and the other is shooting little red lightning bolts. You'll know it's about to dive when it stops for half a second and growls, and you'll know when it's about to shoot lightning when its tail glows and it makes electric noises. Just keep dodging and attacking and eventually he'll be history. * Boss of stage 8: Bolta Unlike his brother, Bolta doesn't bother with just one spark. He starts with three. Once you get rid of one candle, he throws three sets of three sparks, for a total of nine sparks at once. Then he shoots lightning, the same way his brother does. After the second candle is gone, he picks up speed, much in the same way his brother did, and also shoots the element symbols at you. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage 9 - Demon's Castle Time limit: 500 Wow, this place is pretty big. Basically just follow the path until you get to the end, then go into the black door, then follow the path some more, go into another black door, and continue. At the next door, get ready to fight Impy again.. * Miniboss of stage 9: Impy You can basically use the same strategy that you used earlier, but Impy has some new attacks. One of the new attacks involves three-directional lightning, straight out and 45(?) degrees on either side. The flying discs actually chase after Pocky now, so watch out for them. * Boss of stage 9: Dynagon This is it, the moment you've been waiting for.. maybe... If you have Bob Bomber as your partner, this fight is alot easier. His attacks include shooting little purple marbles around himself, which are easy enough to avoid. Next he uses his sword, which he uses to shoot flames, strangely enough. Next, the swords go underground and follow Pocky around. Taking care of them is fairly easy. Next, he shoots sparks from his wrists, which fly in seemingly random directions. This is a tough fight if you don't have Bomber Bob, I just barely finished him off in time. When I finally beat him I had only 14 seconds left on the clock. x_x After you take him out, the screen goes white ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Subsection [A]: Partners ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- * Rocky: Rocky's still hanging around Pocky, but this time, he doesn't have that awesome tail attack, nor can he change into stone. Using Rocky's magic doesn't seem to do anything. The manual claims you can find hidden treasures, but so far I've found none. Pressing B while in magic mode causes him to beat his chest. o.O He still throws leaves. * Little Ninja: She throws little ninja stars. While using her magic, you can open locked chests without using a key. You also get to use a sword. :D * Bomber Bob: Bomber Bob can lift heavy boulders with his magic. He uses bombs as his weapon (never would've guessed that, would you have?). * Tengy: Tengy also can throw leaves, but with one minor difference: His leaves bounce around. This is a nice little feature, but it can become a tad annoying at times. Using his magic allows you to fly around for a while. * Screcrow: Scarecrow is apparently a pogo stick. He uses sickles as his weapon of choice. They spin around much in the same way that Boomer Kuwanger, from Megaman X, used his. * Digger: It's.. a mole. Anyway, you can dig underground with his magic. His weapon appears to be other moles digging underground. * Ottobot: This has to be my favorite partner. When you use his magic, Pocky gets to ride around in a little mech. You can fly over things and lift rocks. He has little missiles. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Subsection [B]: Items ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- * Key: You can use these to open locked chests and doors. * Rabbit ears: Gives you one extra "hit point." If you alread have a pair, you get 5,000 bonus points. * Armor: Gives you a total of three "hit points." * Clothes: Upgrades your current clothes. Doesn't upgrade the blue clothes, but you do get 3,000 bonus points out of it. * Powerup: If you've played Pocky & Rocky, then you'll recognize these things. They give Pocky's cards more power. At the maximum power level, the cards are about the same size as Pocky. If your cards are already fully powered, this item gives you 1,000 bonus points. * Extra life: Unless this is your first video game, you probably can guess what this does. You can get these for free (100,000 points) * Coin: Coins dropped by enemies give you 10 gold. Large coins give you 30 gold. * Strategy book: These contain information on how to beat the boss of the current level. * Grab bag: This is usually the best thing to buy at an item shop. It contains two random(?) items. * Partner icon: This lets you change partners. If you grab the icon while it's the same as the partner you currently have, you get 3,000 bonus points. ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Subsection [C]: Passwords ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Stage Password 2 HT1J 3 V3BX 4 F87N 5 S2YP 6 6DZ4 7 TR5C 8 GZLR 9 5K0Q ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- Section [5]: Disclaimer/Copyright ---------------------------------m-y-u-u-t-s-u--------------------------------- I have used no sources other than myself and my SNES to make this guide.
