Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run for the SNES FAQ\Hints and Tips Author: Jdude84 Version: 2.01 Welcome to my FAQ on Ken Griffey JR's Winning Run, this game is extremly awesome, and i believe it is the best baseball game on the super nintendo enertainment system. The graphics are well, not that great, but who cares, it's SNES, it's only 16 bit! The sound is very realistic, from the crack of the bat to the vendors shouting "peanuts". And the gameplay is the best i've seen in a baseball game. And there's more too, why, the game is made by Rare, the same people who made the classic Donkey Kong Series! If you don't have this game, buy it now! if you don't have the system, no matter what else you own, buy the system, and buy the game NOW! you won't be sorry! Now it's onto the FAQ... * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TABLE OF CONTENTS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * i. Version History ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 July 16, 1999 - All Done With 1.0 1.1 July 31, 999 - Added "E-Mail I Get", FAQ Sections. The player list will be coming along shortly...oh yes, i also re-did the Game Codes section. 1.5 November 2, 1999 - After E-mail after E-mail i get about the ultimate team code, trade griffey to another team, etc, etc, i have an announcment. This game is 4 years old people, and i do not desire to answer 50+ e-mails about various codes\gameshark codes. if the code is ON my faq, you can ask questions about that, otherwise i cannot help. Hopefully this will slow down the e-mail i get, not to mention answer why you all have not recieved replies. Thank You. On a side note..i updated this old faq. I thought for sure someone else would have a KGJWR: faq by now... 2.0 November 15, 1999 - Added the final section to this faq - Review. Oh and i updated the FAQ. All that is left is the ol' player list with 24 more teams to go. Version 2.01 ============ It's amazing to see how much my writing style and format has changed since this faq. After getting a few e-mails a day asking me to update and or answer a question, i realized this was a faq getting some reading, oddly enough. Therefore i cleaned it up a bit, and added a bit more to it. Still no player list update though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. All Star Team ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In this section i will provide my lineup of the best players in the american and national league combined into one awesome team! Not all of them are "all stars" but with this team i can win almost every game! Right now i am 141-0 with this team! -Lineup- 1. Vinny Clayton (Mariners) 2. Tony Tollony (Dodgers) 3. Ken Griffey Jr. (Mariners) 4. Moray Ramirez (Mariners) 5. Crush Feraza (Rangers) 6. Paul Comet (White Sox) 7. Turbo Taines (Tigers) 8. Rocket O' Hara (Braves) 9. Blazer Brown (Rangers) -Why It Works- 1. He can hit for avg. and his speed is great, you can bunt for a single with this guy, making him a great leadoff hitter! I once had an Avg. of .567 with him! 2. Definetly a power hitter, not a bad avg. hitter either, he can drive in around 100 runs a year. 3. THE best hitter in the game, Jr can hit for avg, power, he has good speed, and his defense is great! i've had a .600 avg with jr, 140 RBIs, and 54 home runs! not too bad eh? he's most succesful with runners on base. 4. Not fast at all, but boy can he hit! great doubles hitter, hits quite a few home runs, avg. is constantly near .400! 5. A RBI machine! that's all he does, gets RBIs! whether from doubles, or homeruns, a great power hitter, not a bad avg either! 6. Very fast, gets on quite a bit, what more could you ask for? 7. Also very fast, good hitter, scores alot. 8. VERY fast, can bunt his way to first base, scores alot, good avg. hitter, and what's this? He can hit home runs!! tons of them, about 25 a year! 9. fast, fast, fast! he can hit, he can run, good power hitter, scores a ton....are you sensing some simalarities here? =============== 4. E-Mail I Get =============== Normally i wouldn't add a section like this to any of my FAQs, because it just makes people think i want to make my FAQ larger in size...however...in this FAQ i will, why? Just read on... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From: joett@hotmail.com Message: I read your FAQ. The team you posted is not actually the best. I had 2 consecutive undefeated seasons including the World Series win in both.I also think this is the best game for the SNES. My teams are: Mariners Cleveland 1.Buster Bayou 1.Grizzly Wilkin 2.Stan Milton 2.Muscles McFee 3.Ken griffey Jr. 3.Slick Fitz 4.Moray Ramirez 4.Big Magoo 5.Viper ramirez 5.Crusher Curtis 6.Eric collazos 6.Kicker Jones 7.Jeff Reynolds 7.Moray Ramirez 8.Sluggo Steel 8.Tony Tollony 9.Tony Tollony 9.Ted Gates I also had a third undefeated season but i forgot the roster. In the indians season Magoo hit 160 HR, McFee 154, Fitz 148, Moray 121. I would like to know if you know a code for infinite trades in Season mode. There is a code to be able to trade Griffey into another team. The code is select, select,a,b,y,x,select, start. Thank You. Feel free to e-mail me about anything concerning this game. Reply: Ok Joe, first off, i did not say in my FAQ that was THE best team in the game, i said it was MY best lineup in the game, not THE best lineup in the game. It works for me, and should for many other people, my job is to help people be succesful with this game, if you think you can write a better FAQ than me please give it a shot, i am sure there are many people who could use your advice. Oh and thanks for reading my FAQ... Author's Note: The author is unaware if the code to trade griffey is legitimate or not. I do not know where and when to enter it, and how to trade griffey. If you have any questions about trading griffey please do _NOT_ e-mail me, but rather "Joe" instead. ====== 5. FAQ ====== Q. I have never completed a full 162 game season. I was wondering if there is an allstar game in the 162 game season. If so do they pick the best players of the new season or are they the original allstars in the allstar game with the players that the games has before you play. Sorry its confusing the way i wrote it A. Oddly enough, there is not an all-star game in the season, who knows why... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Can you trade Ken Griffey Jr? A. No comment... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Help! the game is too hard! A. Activate Auto-Fielding, if that doesn't help, you are hopeless. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Your all-star team sucks! A. Thanks for mentioning that... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Did you know that this is the only KGJWR FAQ On gamefaqs? A. I know, you'd think with all the e-mail i get, this would be a popular game... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Is there a trick to hitting home runs? A. Besides having a power hitter, and pressing up every time you hit, not really. Personally i like to try and pull the ball for a homerun with lefties, and go the opposite way for a bomb with righties. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Review ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This game is awesome, it came out in 1996 I believe, and I still play it every day. The gameplay is excellent, the layout is perfect, and if you love Major League Baseball, then this game is for you! Graphics - 8 The players weren't too well designed, and could have been maybe a bit better, even for a SNES game. The stadiums, however, were designed really well. Especially the outdoor ones, the clouds roll by, and in some stadiums the scoreboard really works! Rare did a good job on graphics as they always do with this game. Music\Sound - 10 This game has PERFECT sound to go with the gameplay, it's almost N64- like music! At the start of a game they play the national anthem, and then in the middle of the 7th they play none other than 'take me out to the ball game'. The sound effects aren't bad either! You can here the vednors shouting 'peanuts!', 'popcorn!'. And the fans say 'butterfingers!' if you make an error. Also, the ump will turn around, knock on your TV screen and say 'play the game kid' if you don't do anything for a while, which is pretty cool! I could go on and on about the great sound in this game, but...I won't...onto the control. Control - 10 Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run features alot of controls, for both defense, and offense. The variety is nice to have such as when you are pitching, and they are not too hard to learn either. It took me 3 minutes to get the controls down and it will probably take the same amount of time for you! Replay Value\Fun Factor - 10 This might be the games strongest asset - it's replay value. Not only is it tremendously fun to go undefeated in a season and win the world series with your favorite team, but it's also quite fun to pick a different team and go for the ring! There are 28 teams to choose from, and a 162 game season mode, which adds up to a lot of playing time. There's also more stuff to do that that, with 4 other modes of play! I've been playing this game for 2 years, and STILL haven't gotten tired of it! Gameplay - 10 There are 5 modes of play in this game, and all of them are extremly fun. There is Season Mode, MLB Challenge Mode, All-Star Home Run Derby and game, and There is The World Series Mode. This is all in addition to the 2 player mode you can play in an exhibiton game. MLB Challenge Mode is very fun, and different from the season in many ways. You pick your team, and must defeat 26 teams from both the national and american league. If you lose a game, you just have to play it again until you win, then you move onto the next team! Good for practicing, and great for fun! Playing the World Series without having to go through a whole season to play it is fun, but there isn't much difference really playing the games. I still play it however, and it's more fun to play this mode with 2 players. The all-star game if you ask me is pretty boring, and i rarely play it. However, the homerun derby you can play is awesome! You have your pick of 8 sluggers and duke it out to see who can hit the most, and longest home runs! I've hit a 506 ft. one with JR! This is a very fun part of the game whether 1 or 2 people are playing! 2-Player mode is very fun, and never gets old, it's as simple as that, unfortunatly it's limited to 2 players, but that's not a big deal as I play with two friends and we switch off teams every inning. It's great to see your friends whiff at a knuckleball you just threw, and you can only get that excitment from playing this game! Finally there is Season Mode, within season mode there are 3 other modes of play - 26 game, 52 game, or 162 game season. Take your pick, and then get ready to play! You can trade players, look up the league leaders at any time, the standings in both leagues, and much more! While playing the game you can shift your defensive alignment, change pitchers, pinch hit with someone form your bench, and much more! Season mode offers non- stop excitement that will last for a long time! Overall - 10 This game has so many modes of play, so many teams, and so many players that it has to be good! And it is! This game is perfect in almost every way, if you don't own it go to your local store and buy it today! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.
