Section 6 - Special Thanks Section 7 - Legal Crap ------------------------ Section 1 - Introduction ------------------------ Hello, and welcome to my first FAQ/Walkthrough ever. I decided to do it for Hagane because I thought it was an excellent game and there was no existing FAQ for it. I could not find one anywhere on the internet so I decided to make one. I found this game for 5 bucks at a store that used to rent out games and as soon as I played it I knew it was a good buy. Well, there's my introduction. I hope you enjoy this game as much as I do. I hope my FAQ/Walkthrough can be helpful to you in any way you need. If you have questions about anything you can e-mail me at andrew.t.howell@gmail.com. However if the answer can be found in my FAQ/Walkthrough I probably won't answer your e-mail. Here is where it all begins. --------------------------- Section 2 - Version history --------------------------- Version 1.10 - Fixed a few errors, added the secret room in level 3-2. Version 1.00 - Completed the main parts of all sections. ---------------------- Section 3a. - Controls ---------------------- Left and Right on the d-pad move your character left and right on the screen. Up on the d-pad let's you grab onto the ceiling when you jump and tap it at just the right moment. The "A" Button releases a special attack that hurts everything on the screen. These are limited however. You can receive more of these by defeating enemies. The number you currently hold are listed in the top right of the screen, to the right of the number of lives you have left. The "B" Button makes your character jump. If you jump and press down on the d-pad, your character will do a flaming kick towards the ground. If you hold down and press "B" you will perform a slide that allows you to get under small spaces in the game. This slide is similar to the slide megaman can do in the original megaman games. The "Y" Button is your friend. This allows you to do 1 of 4 things. Either slash your sword, throw an explosive, shoot a chain or throw a knife. These are the four weapons in the game. The chain and the sword have infinite ammo but the explosives and knives have limited ammo. More can be picked up from enemies. The "X" Button changes your weapon. By pressing it, a symbol in the top right of the screen changes showing you which weapon you have equipped. I use the sword most of the time but there are occasions throughout the FAQ where I advise using different weapons. The "Start" Button pauses the game. The "Select" Button also changes the weapon that you have equipped. NOTE: You can pause the game, choose a weapon, and then unpause the game. ------------------------------- Section 3b. - Tumbling Controls ------------------------------- Through use of the "L" and "R" buttons you can tumble. There is a whole new fighting system here. There are three levels of tumbling. A normal tumble, a blue tumble, and a yellow tumble. At each leave, the "Y" button and the "B" button do different attacks. You gain tumble levels by holding the tumble button longer. Note that you can only do these skills you you are tumbling the same way that Hagane is facing. If Hagane is facing left, and you tumble right, it is only used to travel quickly rather than to use skills. Normal Level Y: If you press Y while at a normal level tumble, Hagane does a flaming punch. Normal Level B: If you press B while at normal level tumble, Hagane does a jumping flaming kick. Blue Level Y: If you press Y while at a blue level tumble, Hagane does a smaller version of Blue Level B. Blue Level B: if you press B while at blue level tumble, Hagane does a flaming kick wher ehe jumps up and does several backflips while kicking. Yellow Level Y: If you press Y while at yellow level, Hagane flips over and slams his sword into the ground releasing a fire dragon that spreads out and does damage to all enemies nearby. Yellow Level B: if you press B while at yellow level, Hagane does a flaming kick stright up. ------------------------------ Section 4 - Pickups and Icons ------------------------------ There are many different icons and powerups throughout this game. Here is an explanation of each icon. 1Up: You gain an extra life. Red Fire: One health stick is refilled. Blue Fire: One health stick is refilled AND you gain a new stick entirely. Japanese/Chinese Symbol: You get another special attack. White Tube: This increases your number of explosives by 10. White Knife: This increases your number of throwing knives by 10. ----------------------- Section 5 - Walkthrough ----------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: THIS TAKES IN ACCOUNT THAT YOU ALREADY READ THE CONTROLS SECTION OF MY FAQ THERE WILL BE NO CONTROLS LISTED IN THIS PART OF THE FAQ. READ THE CONTROLS SECTION! ----------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** Stage 1: The Path To Disaster ***************************** --------- Level 1-1 --------- Walk forward and kill the two enemies with swords that run towards you. After that there will be a wall in the middle of the path, you can smash it with your sword for two powerups or leave it. Obviously you should smash it. Get the powerups and when you continue a big red haired guy will run, jump and throw a huge axe at you, jump over, or walk under the axe while it is in mid-air, it doesn't matter whichever is more comfortable for you, and then slash the red haired guy to pieces. Also, there is a bird above you at this point, jump up and slash him, perhaps he will drop a powerup. Continue on and smash the wall, then there will be another red haired guy and another bird, just do the same thing you did last time. When you walk forward after this, a ship will approach you. You can jump up and slash the guns if you want, they pose no threat as of now because they don't fire but if you kill them you can get some powerups. Some hatches will open and enemies will fall out. It's not very hard, just slash them as they come out. When all the enemies are out the ship will leave. Continue on. There will be another bird above you, jump up and slash him, then a Raiden-esque character straight ahead of you will shoot a yellow fireball towards you. Your best bet is to walk stright up to him, he is on a slight rise, and while you are below him, the fireball should pass over your head. Slash him to death quickly and then another enemy will appear. He will run at you and jump over you, just keep slashing in the same spot where you killed the raiden dude and you should kill this guy before he slashes you. Walk up the short rise and and enemy will jump out from behind a wall, slash him before he hits the ground and keep going. As you continue up the hill another Raiden character will run at you but not shoot, just slash him as you walk, and then when you reach the top of the hill there should be another Raiden guy just below you. Jump over the fireball he shoots, kill him and then kill another enemy that is running after you. When they are dead you continue on very shortly and there is a smaller flying ship. Very easy. It only shoots straight down so just jump and slash at it's side. After several slashes it will be dead. There will be a guy with a gun just below you. If you are not careful he will be able to shoot you in the feet and take off health so watch out. I suggest to stay up higher on the little hill there while you kill the flying ship and then drop down lower to take care of the enemy with the gun. After they are dead continue forward and another guy with a gun will hop out behind a wall, you can kill him before he even hits the ground, so do so. Continue on and a guy will jump down from the top of a roof, stop, kill him and proceed cautiously. You will see another flying ship, but don't worry about that yet. Another red haired axe weilder will run towards you. Jump over his axe, but keep close to the right side of the axe so the explosions from the flying ship won't hurt you. Kill the red haired guy and then jump up and slash at the flying ship. Continue on. Smash the wall, kill the sword guy, and smash antoher wall. Now, you are at the end of the first level. A very very small boss awaits you. TWO of the huge ships you saw earlier. This can actually be somewhat of a challenge if you are not yet used to the game. INSTANTLY take out the guns on the ship. This time they shoot at you and can be pretty hard to dodge. You should be able to take out the first two guns while the ship is still flying in. Take care of all the guns while dodging bullets from the enemies deployed from the hatches. This can be tricky but you'll get it eventually. Now, once all the guns are taken care of, kill the enemies. Also watch out for these small hatches on the 200side of the ship. It will send down this small blue shockwave thing that spreads out for a short distance. I didn't find it too difficult to dodge but just watch out for it. After all the enemies are dead, another ship will fly in. Repeat what you just did. --------- Level 1-2 --------- Walk forward, duck and slash at the turtle, then while still in the water, slash at the glob of black stuff to take care of that and then jump up and slash at the thing crawling on the ceiling. Once they are dead, proceed forward and kill another one of those black globs. If you don't kill these fast enough they morph into glob people and punch at you. Continue on. Jump up and take care of the ceiling crawler, and then catiously get close enough to the black globs to slash them and take them out quickly. Take out another Ceiling Crawler and continue on. Along the way there may be a few bats, just slash them and be done with it. Now, there's gonna be a large flying ship here the shoots fireballs at you. Walk under the fireballs and then jump and slash at it. It should only take a few jumps. Proceed forward, kill the turtle and the sword guy that will run at you. Go up the hill and a sword guy will run straight at you but don't worry, he'll jump right over you and keep going if you just keep walking. At the top of the hill, kill a black glob and keep going. There will be a ceiling crawler, and a bat. Kill them. Walk forward and you will see another bat and a guy who will shoot bullets. Walk towards the guy until he starts shooting, then duck under the bullets. If you're lucky the bat will be right in front of you as the bullets are going overhead. If this is the case slash at the bat while you are ducked. Once the bullets stop flying just walk forward and kill the enemy, and then take care of the bat if you didn't previously. Now, wall jump up the wall. There will only be a few bats up here, pfft, easy. Keep walking and you will encounter THE HARDEST BOSS EVER. Now, by HARDEST BOSS EVER, I mean EASIEST BOSS EVER. It's just this stupid turtle thing. Slash at it, it will jump, then when it lands it will extend a claw, jump out of the way of the claw and then start slashing him again. Repeat until dead. ------------ Level 1-3 ------------ Here, a big worm thing will pop up out of the ground once. You are not yet in control of the character. Once the worm has gone back in you have control. Just stop and wait for the worm to rise back up again, slash it and kill it. Walk forward very slowly and another worm will pop up, kill that one too and continue on. There will be several turtles and worms popping up. Once you reach a wall and kill the final worm, face the wall and stand JUST under the left side of the overhead gap and jump. This will cause an enemy to drop down that could have otherwise caused problems. Kill him and wall jump up the walls and onto the next platform. When you land, walk forward until the enemy shoots at you. Duck under the bullets, and while you are ducking under them the bat should fly down in your path, kill it and when the bullets stop slice up the enemy. Take care of the bat afterif you could not kill him while you were ducked. Now. A little bit of platforming which sucks because this game's jumping isn't exactly well, good. Anyway jump on the first platform when it is closest to you. now, if the second platform was leaving while you jumped on the first platform, you're going to have to wait until the first platform goes left, then back and then left again before you can jump on it. There should be a point where the second platform is all the way to the right and the first platform is halfway through it's small route. When on the second platform, when you are going left the third platform should rapidly be coming back. When the third platform is ALMOST directly over you, jump and you should land on it. Wait until the third platform is all the way to the left and then jump onto solid ground again. Now, jump over the yellow fireball that the enemy shoots and then kill him. Grab the health, if needed, and kill the bat over head. now, jump up to the ledge over head and STOP. Before you proceed to wall jump up onto the next level, you can take out an enemy up above that would otherwise be unavoidable. Just get to the left side of the ledge just above the ledge with the health on it, and jump up. As you get near the peak of your jump the enemy should be in range of your sword. Take him out. Now continue on by wall jumping onto the next ledge and heading right. now, there are two ways of doing this part. One is to take out the bat over head and then jump over the enemy's fire then take out the enemy. I suggest, however, although it sounds like a waste, to use one of you special attacks here. It'll take care of everything risk free. When they are dead, continue on and take out the small flying ship by simply slashing it. When it is dead, don't drop down. Do a double jump, once vertically and once horizontally to reach the next platform to the right. Continue on and take out the next small flying ship. Now here comes a small tricky part. See the blue fire icon, the one that will increase your health by a full block? Well, wall jump on the wall to the right and you should barely land on the ledge above you. Grab the blue fire icon and then use another special attack and a few slashes to take out the large flying ship here. Continue left and take out the small flying ship. Once you reach an edge with a fire breather above you, stop and get to the left-most edge of the ledge you are on. Wait until after the fire breather is done breathing and you should be able to jump up and slash him from your current position. Once he is dead, jump up onto the platform and take care of the small flying ship here. The same old stuff. Continue forward and an enemy with a sword will jump up from below you. Just proceed slowly and when he jumps up take him out. There is another fire breather up here. If you want to be really safe, you can switch to your throwing knives weapon and take him out that way from a distance. I just usually wait until he is done breathing fire and then rush him but whatever you want to do, just a suggestion as I like to save those throwing knives for a boss later on. Anway continue on and instead of dropping down where you see the white arrow pointing left, jump up, grab the ceiling and monkey bar your way to the end of the level. This way you don't have to deal with that stupid fire breather. --------- Level 1-4 --------- This level is probably the first hard level, but with proper timing and jumps, it's easy. Basically you are running away from an explosion and pits open up before your very eyes. Jump over these whenever you see them along with any other normal pits. You shouldn't be too worried about getting hit by enemies but it can happen so keep that in mind. There's no real good way to describe this level so just experiment with it. It's very early in the game so dying is not that big a deal. Once you get it, you get it. That's it. ------------------ Boss: Musha Mukuro ------------------ Easy. I have never found this boss hard at all. Just slice him away. It helps to use special attacks if you have them, those will take him out rather quickly but my best advice is to just slash him away with your sword. He has two main attacks. One is from the statues flanking you. Their hands/arms will extend, if you touch them they hurt you. Not too hard to dodge. Usually he attacks with the right statues arm first so as soon as you see it extending, head left. Keep dodging the arms and slashing at the man who is floating around the screen. He will be shooting fireballs that you can either dodge or hit to get rid of. After about 20 seconds of slashing him good, he should be dead. If you don't get it the first try, don't worry just try again. ************************* Stage 2: Fortress of Doom ************************* --------- Level 2-1 --------- This level isn't much, just a small boss. It's a big floating 4-faced statue. All it does is float around over your head and every now and then it will spit out a fireball and when the fireball hits the ground a pillar of rock will rise up. You can jump over these half-easily. Also every now and then the boss just swoops down at the ground, if you do it just right you can jump over him at this time but you should be able to kill him fast enough that he only gets a chance to swoop once or maybe twice. --------- Level 2-2 --------- As your character walks in, keep holding "right" on the d-pad as soon as you can see your character start to walk in on his own. When you gain control of your character and you're still holding right, keep walking and you will be perfectly timed to get past the first two pillars that are going up and down. Then, when you reach the third, stop and wait for it to go up and go across. Repeat the same for the fourth. When you reach the pit, jump on one of the falling blocks on the right and on your way down slash the enemy on the right and then when an enemy appears on the left, it will be one of the fire breathing enemies. Simply jump straight up when he starts to breathe fire and when you come back down he won't be breathing fire and you can continue. When you reach the conveyer belt head right. Jump on the first platform but be quick because it disappears, then jump to the second one and finally jump on one of the falling blocks that are falling directly right of the second disappearing platforms. Now, before the rock hits the lava jump up and you will land on a black directly above you. Keep doing this until you see the path to the right near the top. Do a double jump, once vertically and once horizontally to reach it. Along the path there may be several small floating enemies. You can only hurt these when they open up their shell to reveal a face. They can be quite annoying but not too bad. Continue on and do another double jump, once vertically once horizontally onto the next disappearing platform and then keep climbing up the platforms past the small flying ship. Don't worry about the health, you shouldn't need it. But, if you really do, climb the disappearing platforms and when you reach the last one, and you are top right of the small flying ship, jump down from there, grab the health and continue back on up the disappearing platforms. Jump to the path on the right and take out the fire breather by jumping over his flames and then slashing him. Now, here comes a little complicated part. A bit more platforming here. Jump on top of one of the platforms coming down from the ceiling and then continue riding it until you get the blue fire icon. Then, quickly, jump back down onto the ledge to the right of the first flame. Wait until aother platform comes along and then grab onto the bottom of it like you would the ceiling. Ride it past the flame on the ceiling and then before you hit the flame on the ground, hit the jump button and jump up onto the top of the platform. When you get past the flame on the ground, jump down where the enemy is and take him out. Actually touching the enemy will not hurt you, touching his fireballs will. Wait for another platform to come along and grab on to the bottom of it until you get past the flame on the ceiling. Then, when you are ready jump down onto the ledge and take out the small flying ship. Be careful of the junk on the conveyer belt as smacking into it hurts you. To avoid getting hit by these, do a double jump over them. Now, here comes a tricky part. Continue on the conveyer belt until you see a groove in the ceiling above you. You will have to jump up into that groove, do a double jump and then keep holding "B" so your character wall kicks back and forth in the space. By doing this you avoid the junk on the conveyer belt. Once a piece of junk has passed, drop down and quickly move onto the next groove. Repeat the same until you reach the end of the conveyer belt. There will also be one of those small floating enemies, take care of it when you see it. It should reach you around the second groove in the ceiling. Once you reach the end of the conveyer belt, walk over the floating platforms and into the next level. --------- Level 2-3 --------- Go forward and kill the enemy. Now, see those pillar things sticking out of the wall? Well, there's a lot of walljumping in this level. Keep jumping or walljumping from one pillar to another until you reach the top. There should be a few floating face enemies, just kill 'em and move on. When you reach the top, get over on the ledge on the left wall. Kill the floating head coming towards you, and then do a horizontal jump onto the next ledge. Keep going until you enter a room with 5 platforms and a central uh....thing. Get between the bottom two platforms and duck. This is to avoid getting hit by the spikes on the bottom of them when they come down. The platforms will descend and the central thing will shoot out a ball of energy that bouncesa round the screen. This really isn't that much of a threat as this mini-boss is extremely weak. Stand on one of the platforms, they are rotating clockwise, and just keep slashing at the middle when it opens. Don't worry too much if you get hit since this boss ALWAYS gives you some health after you kill it, and there are two more health icons later in this level. Once he is dead, continue on killing the two enemies until you reach a platform and a few torches. Jump on the first platform, then when it is at it's peak height do a horizontal jump over the torch and land in the next area. Here you will see two platforms that will disappear when you hit them and a few more of those torches. There is also a health icon over the top of the second platform. Here's what to do. Jump onto the dissappearing platform, and then do a horizontal jump over the torch, landing on solid ground. If you WANT the health, jump on the first platform, then jump onto the second platform directly above you. Jump off the second platform, get the health icon, then hold your air as long as possible, hold the jump button for as long as you can. When the end of your jump comes, the first platform should have re-appeared, and the second should still be gone. So fall down through the non-existant second platform, land on the first platform, and then do a horizontal jump off the first platform over the torch and back onto solid ground. Whew. No, proceed forward until you come to a pit and an enemy right across from it. Switch to your throwing knives and take him out. Do a horizontal jump over the pit and continue on. You will come to an area where the ground is entirely made of disappearing platforms. Walk across these as quickly as you can, grab the health icon if needed and start climbin'! It's a half long way up, and some of the jumps are difficult, I will outline the more difficult ones. 1. You will come to an area with a platform directly overhead. You should be on a pillar on the right wall. Wall jump off the right wall, then off the right wall of the platform, off the right wall again, and then onto the platform. Be ready because a ninja will descend from the smoky rafters to bust a bass-line err I mean.....a ninja will drop down to attack you so just take him out. Continue to climb. 2. You will come to an area with a cylindrical object moving back and forth above you. Get on the pillar on the left wall, get in as close to the wall as you can and wait. If you wait too long you will fall right through the pillar, so just keep jumping slightly. When the cylinder is in the socket on the right wall, wait a few more seconds and when it is about one fifth it's way back to the left side, jump up, wall jump off the left wall, and if you did it right, you should pass right over the cylinder. Continue to climb. 3. You're near the top when you see a cylinder in a socket on the left wall, moving in and out. Y ou should be on the left wall on a pillar. Also, another pillar on the right side should be moving in and out. Keep jumping on the pillar you are on as to not fall through it, keep waiting until there is a time when the pillar on the right wall is extending and the cylinder on the left wall is going back in. Then jump and very quickly wall jump over to the pillar. Jump up until you reach the end. ---------------- Boss: En-Mikoshi ---------------- This guy is pretty easy. He has 4 main attacks, and only during one of them can you hurt him. I find staying nearest to the right wall as possible the best strategy. If you only want to know where to hit him see "4)" below. 1) He will open pods on his left and right that shoot out these blueish-purple balls, that home in on you. You can kill these in one hit with your sword. Very easy to manage. 2) He will launch up 4 balls, and as each one comes down from the top of the screen, they will be rotating and have a long chain of balls attached to either end. This can be a bit dangerous but if you're lucky he'll only do this once. The only real piece of advice I can give is to dodge them as best you can. Usually not that difficult to dodge but it can get hard when he sends one over on the right and one over on the left. 3) See those 2 rotating things around him? They will stop and shoot lasers straight down, this is his easiest attack to dodge. Just don't be under the rotating things when they stop abruptly. He'll shoot four times before moving on to a new attack. 4) This is the attack where you can hit him. A central pod will drop down and a head will come out of it, slash this head, this is the target. Then after going up an down once or twice the head will shoot bullets to the left and right, duck under this. Just wait for this attack to happen, and when it does. Take him down. ************************* Stage 3: Violated Heavens ************************* NOTE: SAVE YOU'RE THROWING KNIVES AND SPECIAL ATTACKS FOR THE NEXT BOSS --------- Stage 3-1 --------- This level is not really special in any way at all. It's pretty straight forward. By now I shouldn't need to tell you "kill the enemy, proceed forward and then kill the next enemy", so I will outline the hardest points. 1) There are a lot of new enemies here, some of them fly, others are just guns on the ground. Just keep your eyes open and slash as fast as you can. 2) When you come to a split just after two turrets that keep regenerating if you kill them, you can go on bottom to get a health icon and a few weapons, but if you do there will be a new enemy with a ball and chain waiting when you come back to the top. 3) The enemies with ball and chains, are extremely easy to kill. Just stand as close as you can to them without actualy touching them, and start slashing. When they throw the ball and chain it will go right over you. They should be dead by the time the ball comes back but if not just jump over the ball as it comes towards you and keep going. Or if you want, you could just walk right through the guy, whichever. 4) The boss of this stage is just like a small gauntlet of enemies. Use all the strategies you've learned to take them down. --------- Stage 3-2 --------- This is inside the ship you landed on in the previous level. In here, watch out for pods on the roof that shoot white beams down, jump up and slash them whenever you see one, never assume it won't fire. There are more ball and chain guys here, take them out as usual. When you come to an area with platforms going around in a circle and fire shooting tubes on the walls, just get on one of the platform, and when you are going up, watch the tubes and if you see one start to shoot flames, jump up right before the major flames shoot out. You should go right over all the flames, and when you fall back down land back on the platform you jumped off of, damage free. Also, if you get to the top and head left, you find a secret room. In here you find many convienient powerups. These include a health increase, some health, some weapon powerups and a 1UP. When you get to the second set of platforms and flame shooting tubes, instead of taking the stupid way, do a horizontal jump out into the exact middle of it all and you'll fall right down through the platforms and you don't have to worry about the fire. Continue on, there will be a few more enemies and then the boss. For the boss of this level, jump up onto the guns, just over the area where the bullets come from, and then slash the blue orbs at the top corners. Just like most of the bosses in this game, easy. After you beat the boss you will see Hagane jump onto some weird ship thing. Get ready for the weirdest level in the game. ------------ Stage 3-3 ------------ Ok this level can be annoying, only because it's so trippy. It makes good use of the SNES's Mode7. Anyway just be careful of the flames that will shoot out of the ceiling? I can't really tell if it's the ceiling or the floor. Anyway just be careful of those, and be careful of the homing rockets that come out of these strange flying things. Sorry for the vague descriptions of the enemies but they don't have names or anything so what am I supposed to do? Anyway this level isn't too tough, just watch out for those tricky flames. --------- Stage 3-4 --------- This level is once again nothing special. You'll be flying through the air on that weird ship thing like the last level except it won't go crazy and rotate on you, just go straight. As you can see as soon as you start this level, Hagane did a number on that ship and it's going down, shortly after starting this level it will explode. You do not recieve damage from it of course :D. Anyway just slash whatever you see, this level is extremely easy, but the boss coming up is going to be hard if you haven't been saving your throwing knives and special attacks. --------------- Boss: Jasei-Jyu --------------- I found this boss extremely hard with just the sword. As soon as the girl on the eagle transforms into that weird flying dog thing, change to your throwing knives and begin chucking them as fast as you can at the dog's face. As you are doing this, launch all the special attacks you've got. When the boss begins to grow some long weird tail, stop because nothing hurts her. Once she starts moving again keep doing the same thing until you kill her. I'm pretty sure this is a she because the person on the eagle was female so I'm assuming all the people you see transform into the bosses. This game is very vague on story. But awesomely delicious.....err...good. ******************************* Stage 4: The Cry of the Spirits ******************************* --------- Stage 4-1 --------- Your ship has been badly damaged and you are going down. You land in a dank, scary forest. OOOOOOOO. Anyway, this level isn't too hard. The level is as straight forward as you can get, there are no obstacles or anything of the sort so I'll just highlight the enemies. 1. Red Haired Guys: You know how to handle them, jump or duck under their axes and then slash them. 2. Eagles: A new enemy. They can be quite annoying as they take 2 hits to kill and move half quickly. Just be careful around them. Often when you are walking towards an eagle slashing, you think you can kill it before it charges but this is not the case. I suggest jumping over them. 3. Raiden-like enemies: Jump over their yellow fireball and slash them. 4. Green Enemy(1): There are two enemies dressed in green. The first one appears out of nowhere, most of the time out of the background, jumps down onto the ground, throws something up, and then dissappears. Shortly after one of thoselong yellow chains shoot out of the ground. They're not bad, but their movement is unpredictable so stay clear if possible. 5. Green Enemy(2): These guys pop up out of the ground, fly into the air, spreadout and then shoot 4 fireballs at the ground. Sometimes this can get quite annoyingbut these guys are pansies if you know what you're at. Just simple stand DIRECTLY over the spot that they come up out of. When the enemy himself hits you, it does no damage. Then, either slash him before he launches into the air, or wait until he is on his way back down. His fireballs will miss you completely. Well, that's about it for the enemies. Get ready for a familiar face. -------------------- Boss: Mysterious Man -------------------- Alright, this guy! You finally get to fight him. Unfortunatly you do not kill him, he just runs away like the pansy that he is. He has 4 attacks which can all be avoided by simply jumping when he does them. That's it. Jump over his attacks, slash him, repeat. I will however provide you with explanations for each of his attacks. 1. Sword Slash: He will stand perfectly still and slice his sword directly upwards. You'd have to be an idiot to get hit by this. Just jump when he does it. You need to be extremely close to himto get hit. 2. Stab: He'll stab straight out towards you. This has slightly longer range than the slash but you still avoid it the same way. Jump. 3. Dash: He will power up for about a half a second and then charge at you surrounded by a shield. This is probably his hardest attack to dodge because it is so quick but it's still avoided by jumping. 4. Jump: Well, I don't know if you could call this an attack per say. Maybe it's giving you a clue as to how to beat him? I don't know it's pretty pointless. If you touch him when he jumps you still don't receieve damage so don't worry about it. --------- Stage 4-2 --------- Ugh. That's what I have to say about this level. Ugh. I guess Hagane found a cave in the forest and entered it. Alright, time to get started. This is the maziest level in the game. But also, the most convienient level in the game. This is because you can get 2 free lives, and 2 free special attacks throughout this level. Do the math and you can see that dieing in this level over and over again can be extremely beneficial. I STRONGLY advise you to die after getting the second life, and second special attack, until you have 9 special attacks and 9 lives. It is not NECCESSARY but it makes it a lot easier later on. Alright, time for the actual level. Kill the turret on the ceiling and the enemies in the area. When you come to an area with rocks falling from the ceiling, jump and horizontal jump through them right after you see two round rocks together. This is not 100% effective but it's the best way I found. After you jump you should fall for a looooooooooong time. If you don't, just go as low as you can. Once you find a turtle, kill it, and head back left. Once you reach the top of the hill, you should see another area to your right, just slightly above you. Stand on the edge of the hill and use a horizontal jump to get to the area on the right. When you reach this area. Proceed forward and when you come into an opening, there is an area top left. Jump up here and you will see a weird......statue?....with.....rocks? floating around it. These rocks will fly at you, so slash them and kill the statue thing. This is to get a few items. Proceed left and when you reach the edge of the area that the statue was on, jump out and do a horizontal jump to skip by an enemy. Continue on and you will find a low area. Slide under here (the only time in the game that you HAVE to slide). Keep going down the hill, kill the enemies and get some items from the statue. When you reach the bottom of the hill. Jump out and do a horizontal jump just under the roof of the cave. You should see a turret pop out. If you can, get in a slash in mid-jump but if not just drop to the floor. Kill the green enemy popping out of the ground to the left, and then walk directly under the turret. Switch to your hook weapon and, while holding up, jump and shoot the hook at the turret. Be careful though, the hook can grab on to the ceiling so try not to hit it too far in. Keep doing this until the turret is dead. Then, jump up, and grapple onto the ceiling using the hook. There is a 1UP icon and another turret to the right. Do not worry about the turret's bullets because they pass directly through your legs and you recieve no damage. Head to your right and drop down from the ceiling to get the 1Up. Kill the turret and proceed forward. When you come to a short rock wall, jump on top of it, and look to your left. You will see two platforms circulating. Jump on one and when you reach the top, head left. After fighting a bunch of enemies you will find a special attack icon. Pick it up and head back right. Jump over the platforms again and this time, obviously, go right. As you continue you will encounter a few turrets and another section of falling rocks. Once past these, keep walking down the hill. Do not worry about the area top right, it isn't worth it. Once near the bottom of the hill, you should see a special attack icon and a 1UP. Jump horizontally and pick these up. Now that you have picked up 2 1UPs and 2 special attacks, simply die. Do this section of the level over and over again until you have 9 lives and 9 special attacks. It may take a while depending on how many you had already but it's well worth it. Once you have 9 special attacks and 9 lives, continue past this point. Drop down and you should see a few pickups to the right. Get these, and get the health increase and the health icon to the right as well. Watch out for those tricky green enemies that pop out of the ground though. Once you are done here, head left, and defeat the enemies. After this you, finally, have reached the boss of this level. However, he is not the reason to get so many lives and special attacks. He isn't too hard. ----------------------- Boss: Giant Earth Snake ----------------------- This boss can be tough but not as bad as the next boss. He will do 1 of several things. 1) His tail will come out of the ground on either side of the ground. When this happens, he will slam his tail down on the ground and a blue shockwave will shoot out. Just jump over it. 2) His tail will come out of the ground on either side of the ceiling. When this happens, he will slam his tail on the ceiling and cause rocks to fall. there are only a few, and they aren't that hard to dodge, just walk left or right. 3) His head will come out of the ground on the floor or ceiling. When this happens, it is your prime time to hit him. Just slash him in the head. However, it isn't that easy. his head also shoots out at you so you have to avoid that too. It can be difficult to get used to but hey, you have 9 lives. You'll get it. --------- Stage 4-3 --------- This level can be A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G if you screw it up, but with careful timing it's a cakewalk. However, the boss is a different story, the boss is hard, always, end of story. Alright, keep walking right until you come to a ledge. Drop down this ledge, and walk left when you land. Keep walking left until you see a mine cart. Jump on and it will take you through a chunk of the level. When you are flying over lava, get ready to jump out. The cart will crash into a sea of lava and you have to jump. Do a horizontal jump out of the cart and you will land on a bridge, keep running because this will start exploding. Proceed and kill enemies as you see fit. You will eventually come to a ledge with fire shooting up out of the pits. This isn't too hard. Just jump, the platform will start sinking, and then jump again and again until you're at the end of it. At some points you may have to kill a few enemies before proceeding, do this as fast as you can because the platforms sink. On the last jump you will have to wait until the platform is almost at the top of the lava before jumping. Once you get off those platforms, kill the few enemies and then you start climbing up a bit. When you reach the top of the climb, head left through a barrage of enemies and jumps. Remember, if you fall here, you land in lava and will most likely die, but if not you will have a huge chunk of health gone. Once you are as far left as you can go, through all the enemies, continue to climb up. There is a health icon right above you, grab that and then continue right. Now. Here comes the tricky part of the level. It's basically just the same thing over and over again, and it's not really that hard, but if you screw it up once, even once, you are most likely dead or near the start of the level. You have to just jump from platform to platform while avoiding those swinging axes. Always use horizontal jumps here. You can also slide under the axes when they are at their lowest in the swing. Later on in this horrible gauntlet there are enemies on the platforms as well. Take care of them when you are free of the burden of those stupid axes. Once you get to the end, get ready for the 2nd hardest boss in the game. :) ---------------- Boss: Jyuso Dama ---------------- Woah Boy! This bad boy is hard. He has 4 sections. 1) In this part he will spin around the room, stop, open up some sections of himself, then shoot out 6 fireballs in all directions. These can be quite hard to dodge but once you get used to it, it isn't that hard. Anyway, when the boss opens up, it is time to hit him. You might only be able to get 2 attacks in at a time but you want to be safe so just be patient. After this he will go into his second phase. 2) Here, he will circle around the room and randomly launch off 6 sections, usually 2 at a time. Here's what you have to do. Get in the exact middle of the room, and duck. Just stay there, ducked. Once he shoots out two or more of those panels, launch a special attack. Keep doing this until all the panels are dead. 3) This is probably his easiest form. He will home in on you and launch himself towards you. Just keep walking away from him and every now and then he will stop. When this happens slash at him as much as you can. Once he is dead he moves on to his hardest stage. 4) He changes into a different.....thing. It's still a circle but now it has a face on it. It will launch blue fire all over the place. Here is where you unleash all your special attacks. If he isn't dead by the end of them well, you're hosed. Well, not neccessarily but it's hard to do. You're going to have to get as far away form him as you can, when he launches the blue fire, do a horizontal jump over it and then land, jump up, slash him, get as far away and do it all over again. This is his last stage. There isn't much more of a challenge to this game except for the last boss, which is exponentially harder. ***************************** Stage 5: Into the Darkness... ***************************** Here it is, the final group of levels. Good luck! --------- Stage 5-1 --------- This level is basically a gauntlet. There are 2 mini-bosses in this gauntlet. The other enemies are simple enough. I will outline the bosses. There is also one major boss. Boss#1: It's a weird flying thing. This game is waaaayy too vague, therfore good descriptions are extremely hard to do so most of my enemy descriptions contain the word "thing". Anyway. It's extremely easy. It has 3 rotating jewels around it. Slash these to get rid of them and then wail on the central portion. He has two main attacks. One where he launches lasers straight down, and another where he launches off a big purple cloud. One hit with your sword will take care of these. This boss is much like the boss of level 2-3. Boss#2: This boss is slightly harder. He's like a train with a face. At the start he'll come charging in on you and he'll launch a huge laser from the front of him. He does this about every 5 seconds, if you time your jumping right it's easy to dodge. He will also home in on you and launch white discs at you. These can be very hard to dodge but you should be able to kill him before they cause too much damage. Major Boss: Mysterious Man. Ah, a familiar face. This time he's tougher and has more attacks. However, he is still fought essentially the same way. All of his attacks can still be dodged by jumping. He has 2 new attacks. 1) Instead of dashing forward, he now has a jump dash. It goes up on a 45 degree angle. This is his hardest attack to dodge but to do it, you have to just jump over him. I know that sounds quite obvious but for all of his other attacks you can just jump straight up, when he does this you have to jump up and towards him to dodge it. 2) This isn't really an attack, but he will dissappear and then drop down from the sky. just walk left or right when you see him fall, you have plenty of time to dodge this attack. There is no excuse for getting hit here. --------- Stage 5-2 --------- Here is the last BIG level of the game. Ok, in the first room, yes, this level has rooms, as you walk forward enemies will pop out of the doors in the background. Take care of them and enter the door in the end of the room. in the next room, there are falling spikes. For the first one, walk forward until it comes down, move away, and then when it is coming back up, slide under it. For the second one, go forward until it drops down, wait for it to go back up and then do a horizontal jump to get past it. For the third one you have to be careful. See the enemy there? Will his yellow orbs can shoot through the walls. So, wait until he shoots one, jump over it, this will trigger the spikes to fall. And then when the spikes are going back up, do a horizontal jump over them and kill the enemy. Enter the bottom door. Here, walk left until you can JUST see the guy with the ball and chain. Shoot him with your throwing knives. All this time you have to take special care not to get hit by the saws on the floor. Once he is dead, cautiously get on the platform he was on. See those platforms to the top right of you? Make sure you have your sword equipped, and do a horizontal jump onto the first one. Be quick because these platforms spin around. then do a horizontal jump ontot he second one, and then do a horizontal jump from the second one, past the third one, and onto the ledge with the enemy. Kill him and go through the door. For the first part of this room, head left, jump over any pits and avoid the spikes that come out of the ceiling. When you reach an area with two heads on the walls shooting fire, wait until they stop, then jump on the first platform. Duck here, wait for the fire to go off again, and then continue on. Up here, head right. You have to jump over all the saws on the ground while avoiding the spikes that come out of the ceiling. The best way to do it is to wait until you find a hole in the ceiling, wait for the saws, jump over them, and continue on. Go into the door at the end. --------- Level 5-3 --------- This level is just one boss. The third hardest in the game. He is very big and you can only hit him extremely high up, near his face. The hard thing about this boss is not his attacks, rather his movement. He moves unpredictably, and fast. And unfortunatly when you come in contact with him it hurts you. I suggest using the sword, because it is the strongest weapon, and I also suggest launching any and all of your special attacks at him. he has 2 main attacks besides moving around. 1) He Shoots Japanese/Chinese symbol breath! I am ignorant to whether or not it is chinese or japanese. Anyway this is extremely easy to dodge and I don't think I've ever been hit with it. It's very small. 2) He shoots out orbs that spiral around him and eventually, if you don't take them out, turn into lasers and shoot at you. This is hard to dodge but you can do so by simply taking them out before they turn into lasers. Just slash them. One hit takes them down. Nothing to worry about. --------- Stage 5-4 --------- This is one of the more interesting levels in Hagane and it scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it. Once a certain amount of time passes, spikes begin to rise from the floor. You have to climb up this level as fast as you can. And, of course, the terrain is extremely rough. I suggest using horizontal jump a lot to avoid getting caught up while walking. Do not be tempted by 1UPs and Health icons, they are not worth it. Just GO GO GO! --------- Stage 5-5 --------- This is it, the last level. The final two bosses await you beyond here, don't give up now Hagane! Ok, to start, do a horizontal jump from the edge of the pit to just under the fire spitting face. Wait until it stops spitting fire, then do a walljump from OFF the face to just under the other face. Duck. Wait until he stops spitting fire, then jump on TOP of this face. Wait for the pillar to go over to the right, then walljump from the wall, over the pillar and on to the next section. Get to the edge of the pit and look down. Notice the falling platforms? Good, because I didn't. Jump, when the fire is gone, and land on the middle falling platform. Then just fall. You SHOULD land between two saws on the ground. You then have to quickly jump on to the platform with the firebreathing enemy, and kill her. Note that this method works about 60% of the time. If anyone knows a better method, give me an e-mail, we can discuss it. Now, jump from the platform you are on tot he falling platform then quickly to the next falling platform. Now, keep jumping up and down on this platform until the enemy is gone. Each time you jump it should be just before the platform starts rotating, and you should land just after it finishes. There is a groove in the ceiling so you don't have to worry about room. Once the enemy is gone, horizontal jump to where he was. Next, there are a series of falling platforms. just horizontal jump to each of them. once you get back on solid ground, keep going until you see that the camera has stopped moving with you and a line of spikes will rise from the left hand side of the wall. This is a bit of a difficult part, but it's the last bit of level in the game so it's understandable. You have to use your precious horizontal jump to get from platform to platform before the wall of spikes reaches you. Go as fast as you can and don't worry about powerups. Once you reach the end, you have to jump up over a ledge, drop down, kill an enemy and then destroy a wall standing bhetween you and the last two bosses. Do this quick though, for the wall of spikes draws near. O_O. -------------- Boss: Shurb-Oh -------------- The first time I saw this boss I simply said "Uh-Oh", and with good cause. He is probably the hardest boss in the game if you don't know the trick to it, or have good timing. You know the L and R buttons? Notice how I have never said to use them in this FAQ, up until NOW. Without these tumbling skills I have no idea how to beat him. Here is the one and one strategy I have formulated for this boss. If anyone has any more strategies I would certainly like to hear about them. After he has transformed into a big....thing, Stand on the platform that he is on, the thing directly under him. Get on this. Now. he does one of three attacks. 1) He will extend his arms straight out on 45 degree angles. To dodge this, do nothing. You are safe from this attack while you are on the platform. 2) He will concentrate a ball of energy and it will shoot out, splitting into several balls and spiral around the boss for a short period of time. To avoid getting hit here. Stand on the left hand said of the platform and face left. As the ball shoots out, after about a quarter of a second, Press "R" to tumble to the right. Now, as you do this you also need to press left to avoid tumbling completely off the platform and taking damage from the spikes. This can take a LOOOOOOOONG time to get used to and can be very hard to do. However, this seems to be the most effective method to dodge that attack. Good Luck! 3) He will dissappear, and the platform will start sliding left and right. You can fall off here and onto the spikes flanking the platform. As soon as he disappears, jump off and avoid the platform. Eventually the platform will stop and a weird eye will come out of a random spot. This is what you have to hit, this measly little.....yet again...thing. If you are on the wrong side of the platform the chances of hitting the eye are minimal. However, the plus side it only takes a few hits to kill the boss. Once this boss is dead, you move on to the final challenge of the game, THE LAST BOSS! ------------ Stage: Final ------------ -------------------- Boss: Amano Ikazuchi -------------------- After all this work, here we are. The last boss. He can be one annoying son of a...excuse me... Unfortunatly the fight is a gimic battle, kind of. The last boss is a living rocket, and you are at the launch site. You have to contantly climb up a tower to keep up with the boss who is launching into space. There are statues along the way that shoot fire. You can kill these for powerups but more importantly for health, but getting health from these statues is rare. Climbing can be hard because in some places you have to quickly wall jump to avoid getting hit by fire from the statues. Other times you simply fool up the jump and are brought back down a few levels. Always use your horizontal jump here. On to the actual boss. There are 8 faces you have to destroy. 5 are in the middle of the boss, and the other 3 faces are near the top of the boss. There are two strategies for taking these out. ----------------------------------------------------------- Last Boss Strategy #1:Use Your Sword Hagane, Use Your Sword ----------------------------------------------------------- Your most valueable weapon, your sword, loses no value throughout the entire game. You can easily take out the faces once you are on level with them. If you can get a nice flat area without any statues, you can take out all 5 faces in the middle rather quickly with your sword. After these are taken out, climb up further and take out the top faces. All the faces have the same attacks, they either shoot fireballs that slightly home in on you or they shoot fire. However the climbing is what makes this boss hard, not the attacks he does. ---------------------------------------- Last Boss Strategy #2: Attack From Above ---------------------------------------- This is the second method of killing the last boss. This is easier to start, but harder to maintain. Simply climb up and up the tower until you are above the first 5 faces, then jump out over them and press down. This will cause you to do a kick downwards, you hit a face, you bounce back up, and then you do it again. This is easy to start doing but aiming your jumps afterwards can be hard. This is also extremely hard to do on the top 3 faces. I suggest using startegy 1 for these. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Then, as Hagane struck the last blow to the mighty rocket, the survivors of the KOMA-clan were destroyed. Thus, the FUMA-clan had beaten the KOMA-clan. Seeing no more purpose to his life, the mighty warrior "Hagane" lay down his sword forever and entered an eternal rest encased in stone. --------------------------------------------------------------------- CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'VE FINISHED HAGANE! NOW TRY HARD MORE! Wait until after the credits and you unlock hard mode! However, you cannot save so you have to play straight through again. Hard mode is essentially the same except it takes more hits to kill the enemies. -------------------------- Section 6 - Special Thanks -------------------------- This was my first FAQ ever and I would like to thank a few people who helped. DarkAbyss (Aiden Dunne): He's the person who first motivated me to start writing FAQs and the like. After several pitiful attempts, I eventually found the right game for me and did it. Though several times I stopped writing this FAQ only to start up again because Aiden had contributed something else to GFaqs. CJayC (Jeff Veasey): I didn't see this one coming. He's the man who created this great site known as GameFAQs. Thanks. Shortstop: This is where I found the game for 5 bucks. Best buy I ever made. My brothers Peter and Phillip Howell: Obviously their influence led me to start playing games in the first place so thanks a lot by's. Wesley Saunders: This guy made me go out and buy a SNES in the first place. The game followed shortly after so he was involved in a way. Aaron Soper: He sold me the SNES I currently have. Thanks Soper. Anyone I have missed: My memory sucks. Thanks. ---------------------- Section 7 - Legal Crap ---------------------- This document was made entirely by Andrew Howell and automatically assumes copyright. Blah blah blah.
