Beginning your journey =============================================================================== +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | I-A - Adventure Logs | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ After the title screen, you will be presented with the following three options: ぼうけんをする - Continue an adventure ぼうけんのしょをつくる - Create a new adventure log ぼうけんのしょをけす - Erase an adventure log Upon chosing to continue an adventure, you are prompted to select a memory card slot (スロット) from which to load. Select whichever slot your memory card is inserted into, and then the adventure log you wish to load. ---------- Upon choosing to create a new adventure log, you are presented with a prompt labeled なまえをいれてください: please input a name. I won't go into the details of hiragana/katakana here, as you can find that information elsewhere. In the far right column of the window, near the bottom, you will see three options: カナ: kana will change the characters to katakana, もどる: back acts as backspace, and おわる: end which will allow you to finish naming your character. Once you've chosen おわる to finish naming, you are presented with yet another window: サウンドせってい: sound settings. The choices are ステレオ: stereo and モノラル: monaural. Afterwards, you are prompted with a ボリューム: volume window. Here you can set the volume of the BGM and こうかおん: sound effects. After that, yet another window will prompt you to set the ひょうじそくど: display speed on a scale from はやい: fast to おそい: slow. After all of that (whew), you are asked if you would like to save to a memory card. Select はい: yes, then select a slot, and then a free space on your memory card. ---------- Upon choosing to erase an adventure log, you are prompted to select a memory card slot, as if you were creating an adventure log, and then a file to erase. Item -------------------------------- On the left, you'll see a list of party members, and an extra option at the bottom: ふくろ: Bag. This was introduced to the Dragon Quest series in Dragon Quest 6, and has been present ever since. It holds infinite items, and as a bonus, it can also hold up to 999 of each item. That's a significant upgrade from the 99 in previous bags. When you select an item in the bag with the 〇 button, a submenu appears, containing the following options: つかう: Use - use the selected item わたす: Give - give the selected item to another party member, or bag そうび: Equip - equip the selected item すてる: Drop - throw away the selected item やめる: Cancel - close the menu system ------------------------------ つよさ: Status ------------------------------- After selecting this option, you are prompted to choose an individual character, or the bottom option ぜんいん: all members. You can set an option for individual members, or all members by choosing ぜんいんへんこう: change all. The AI options are: ガンガンいこうぜ: Show no mercy バッチリがんばれ: Fight wisely じゅもんつかうな: Don't use magic いのちだいじに: Focus on healing おれにまかせろ: Leave it to me めいれいさせろ: Follow orders ならびかえ: Rearrange party - reorder your party members どうぐせいり: Sort items - sort a party member's inventory. This will put all non-equipment items on the particular user into the bag. You can choose ぜんいん: all to perform this operation on all party members. After selecting an option here, you're asked to confirm whether you want to do it or not. ふくろせいり: Sort bag - sort the bag. You're presented with two options in a submenu: しゅべつ順: order by type and あいうえお順: order 'alphabetically'. You're asked to confirm this after selecting either one. せってい: Settings - here you can set the volume level for BGM and こうかおん: sound effects, as well as setting the sound mode to ステレオ: Stereo or モノラル: Monaural. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | I-C - Battle | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Upon entering a battle, you will be presented with this set of commands: たたかう: Fight いれかえ: Replace さくせん: Strategy にげる: Run The さくせん: strategy menu is exactly the same as in the regular game menu. いれかえ: replace allows you to reorder your party, or swap in members from your wagon. It doesn't take a turn, so don't worry about that. You'll notice a small arrow in the corner of this window. If you press right on the dpad, you'll get two new options: ひょうじそくど: text speed, and へんこう: change. After selecting たたかう: fight, you are presented with a new menu, which is the same for each member of your party. The commands are: おうげき: Attack どうぐ: Item じゅもん: Magic そうび: Equip ぼうぎょ: Defend にげる: Run The options should all be self-explanatory. It's important to note that for some party members, じゅもん: Magic will be replaced with とくぎ: Skill. It works exactly the same, however. =============================================================================== II. Walkthrough =============================================================================== +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-A - Prologue | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ As the game begins, you'll see a man pacing around a throne room. His name is パパス: Papas. The prime minister suggests that he calm down, but he is so restless that he only sits for a minute and begins pacing again! Soon, サンチョ: Sancho comes down and informs Lord Papas that his wife has just given birth! After rushing upstairs, Papas rushes to his wife, マーサ: Martha's room. He is overjoyed to see his wife and his new, beautiful baby boy. Martha asks him if he has a name in mind. Apparently, he does: トンヌラ: Tonnura. She says that it's a wonderful name for a little warrior, but she has something else in mind: whatever name you chose at the start. After some deliberating, Papas decides to use his wife's name instead of his stronger, more virile name. Papas takes the boy in his arms and tells him his new name. Unfortunately, due to the complications of birth, his wife dies... and the baby begins crying. The title sequence begins now. ---------- You wake up on a ship, and your father Papas is sitting at the table. As you wake up, your father asks about your dream (apparently, your dream and the sequence just before this are one in the same). He laughs and says that you should get some fresh air. Get out of bed and walk over to the dressers in the corner of the room. Check the one on the right for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb), and the one on the left for a まもりのたね: Defense Seed. Head out of the room, ignoring the barrels to the south (they're all empty) and head up the stairs and through the door and you'll be on the deck of the ship! Head to the right and break the barrels you see for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Continue north to the rear of the ship and break more barrels for a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket). Head downstairs, and downstairs once again once you're in the kitchen. Down in the hold, break the top left barrel for another すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket), and the lower left barrel for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Ignore the chests, as they are all locked, and head back up to the deck. Head south and around to the opposite end of the ship, past the soldier in green, and head into the door marked by the red carpet. Head upstairs and check the right dresser for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Head back out. Now, in order to progress, you'll need to talk to a few NPCs. Most notably the captain and the two guys in the hold. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly which NPCs trigger this, and I don't think you need to talk to everybody on the ship, but if you're stuck, just talk to everybody and eventally, the man at the helm will yell "Land ho!" and you'll arrive at ビスタの港: Port Vista. After the landing sequence, the captain will emerge and tell you to go tell your father that you've landed, so do that. Afterwards, Papas will head up to the deck, so follow him. On deck, talk to Papas. The following scene was added to this version of the game: the camera will pan, and you'll see ルドマン: Ludman, and his daughter フロア: Flora. They appear to be very important people, as the ship's captain and crew are making special considerations for them. Papas is introduced to Ludman and Flora, and Flora heads into the cabin. You regain control here, and you can go meet Flora if you'd like. She'll ask if you came with your father, and say that she came with hers as well. Go back and talk to Papas, and he'll ask if you're ready to go, and if you remembered to check the drawers back in your room. Say はい: yes, and then he'll ask if you're really ready to go. Say はい: yes again. After getting off of the boat, Papas will be greeted by a man in green. Apparently these two know each other! Papas seems to want to catch up with him, so he tells you to go play for a while, and not wander off too far, but not before giving you the ふしぎな地図: ふしぎなちず (Mysterious Map). There's not much more to do here, but head onto the wooden area and break the middle barrel in the upper right for 10 gold. This place is pretty boring for a kid like you, so let's go play outside. Head north and exit to the map. Take a few steps, and you'll enter a battle with three slimes. Just as it seems like they might overwhelm you, Papas rushes in! After spoiling all of your fun, Papas asks if you're okay and casts ホイミ: Heal. Now it's time to continue on, so Papas will walk north from Port Vista to reach... .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. Copper Sword 270G | | Herb Shop (after rescuing the man from the cave) | | やくそう: Medical Herb 6G | | どくけしそう: Antidote Herb 8G | +=========================================================================+ As you enter, the guard will recognize Papas, saying it's been 2 whole years since they've seen him around. He runs off to tell everybody that Papas has returned, and as you are led through the village, your father is greeted by the townspeople. As you arrive at the house, you are greeted by サンチョ: Sancho before entering the house. Inside, a girl rushes downstairs to greet you and your father. Her name is ビアンカ: Bianca and she's there with her mother. Bianca says grown-ups talking is boring, and asks if you want to go upstairs with her. Say はい: yes. Upstairs, she asks if you remember her. No matter what you say, she'll say that you haven't seen her since you were a baby. She says she's 8 years old, which makes her 2 whole years older than you! She'll try to read a book to show off how smart she is, but stumbles over the words: "in the sky, there is..." before saying the book is too hard. Her mother calls for her, so she puts the book away and heads downstairs. Now that you have control, finally, let's find some items. The dresser nearby has a 皮のぼうし: かわのぼうし (Leather Hat). Equip it (open the menu, go to どうぐ: Item, find the item and then select そうび: Equip on the submenu that appears when you select it), and don't forget to put the ふしぎなちず: (Mysterious Map) into your bag. Head downstairs and a little north under the stairs and break the pot to find a おなべのふた: Pot Lid. Rotate the camera a bit and head over to the dresser to find a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Now head downstairs via the stairs by Papas. There's just one item to find down here. Open the pot in the upper left to find a ちからのたね: Strength Seed. Head back upstairs and go outside. Enter the well in front of you and check the sparkling area to find a サンタローズの石: サンタローズのいし (Santa Rose Stone). Just throw it in the bag for now. Head south and enter the weapon shop. Inside, open the drawers to find another 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). You can't really afford much, so ignore the weapon shop. Cross the bridge to the west and talk to the farmer in the field. He'll notice your Santa Rose Stone and mention that it probably came from the cave in town. Head back towards Sancho's house, and go further north through the door in the rock face. If you talk to the man here, he'll mention that the man living here has gone into the cave to find some herbs. Why's he doing that? Well, if you go into the inn and go to the second floor, you'll find Bianca and her mother. She'll say that she had a man to go into the cave to get some medicine for her husband, but he hasn't returned yet... someone should check on him, right? Let's go ask daddy! If you do so, he'll say that he has business to take care of and rushes off. If you follow him, you can see that he goes into the right side of the cave. Hmm... Well, you can't count on your father for this, so it's time to play hero. Save at the church, and enter the cave. Someone's gotta find that man! +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-A.2 - サンタローズの洞くつ: Santa Rose Cave | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 2 | +-------------+ Monsters in the area -------------------- #001 スライム: Slime #002 とげぼうず: Thorny #003 せみもぐら: Locust Mole #004 ドラキー: Drakee #005 おおきづち: Large Hammer #006 いっかくウサギ: Horned Rabbit Be on guard if you encounter any おおきづち, as they can hit pretty hard if they don't miss. They'll do about 13 damage with a successful attack. 1F-As you enter, you should see a chest off and up to the west a little bit. Open it for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Head to the stairs in the northwestern corner. I recommend building up to at least level 3 before heading downstairs. At level 4, you will learn ホイミ: Heal, which will make the rest of your spelunking much safer, if you're having trouble. You can rest back at your house for free any time you want. B1-Head south and east a little bit to a chest that contains 50 gold. Return to the stairs, and continue west past them. When you hit an intersection, head north. You can try to read the sign here, and it'll say ["Danger! Do not enter!" is written here, but doesn't know how to read.] Cute! Further on, you'll come across a chest that contains a 皮のたて: かわのたて (Leather Shield). Go ahead and equip it, then move south, and east, then further south, then west to the stairs. B2-Follow the path until you reach an intersection, then go north. Talk to the man you see here; he'll ask you to move the rock off of him, so go next to the rock and push it. He'll get up and thank you, then rush back to give the medicine for ダンカン: Duncan, Bianca's father. Examine the rock you just pushed to receive 聖なる原石: せいなるげんせき (Holy Ore). This is used to acquire another item, which is one of the 名産品: Regional Specialty Product) added to this version of the game. You can't do anything with it just yet, so just throw it into your bag. You won't receive it if you didn't talk to the farmer back in town. Head northwest to the chest, which contains 旅人の服: たびびとのふく (Traveler's Clothes). Go ahead and equip this. We're done here, though you can head to the southeast and find a slime walking around. He'll just tell you that you can use the △ button to interact/talk/search instead of using the menu, in exchange for not bashing his cute, slimy brains in. Head on out of the cave, now. Back in town, head to the door in the rock face, through to where the guy you saved is sitting. Open the drawers here for the ておりのケープ: Handwoven Cape. Head back to Sancho's house, and talk to Sancho to rest. When you wake up, Papas, Bianca and her mother are in the kitchen. Papas says that Bianca and her mother got the medicine they needed, so they're going back today, but he doesn't want them to go alone. He asks if you'd like to go with them to アルカパ: Alcapa. Say はい: yes, and you'll depart. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-B - Castles and ghosts and killer panthers, oh my! | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 3 | +-------------+ After being seen off by the townspeople in Santa Rose, you'll trek west to the town of アルカパ: Alcapa. .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. Hairband 150G | +=========================================================================+ When you enter, you'll be greeted by the gate guard, and then you'll head into the inn, which Bianca's family owns. Bianca's mother goes to administer the medicine, and you regain control. If you talk to Papas, he'll tell you to walk around town for a while if you're bored, so let's do that! As you try to exit, Bianca will ask if you're going for a walk, and she'll go along. Exit through the door just south of you, and talk to the bard out here. He'll mention that a strong king and beautiful queen once lived in the レヌールの城: Castle of Lenoire, but that they were unable to have children so the castle became deserted. However, it is said that late at night, weeping sounds can be heard from the castle! Creepy. Head back inside. Head upstairs in the inn, then head up another flight of stairs. Enter the room here to receive a まもりのたね: Defense Seed from the right dresser, and a キメラのつばさ: Chimera Wing from the left. If you walk out of the door on the second floor, south of the stairs going down and talk to the man outside, he'll say that he collects rare tableware, and that he heard the king of Lenoire once enjoyed tea with a fabulous silver tea set. This is a clue for another one of the 名産品: Regional Specialty Product added to the PS2 version of DQ5. Leave the inn. On the eastern side of town, you'll find the shops. You probably don't have very much money at this point (I only have about 150G), but when I play, I try to get a ブーメラン: Boomerang as soon as possible. These cost 420G, and you can't quite afford that yet, so just move on for now. Head south past the church and over a small bridge to come across two boys kicking a poor baby panther. Bianca tells them to leave the poor kitty alone, and they respond that they might consider it if you beat the ghosts of Lenoire castle... but that place is haunted, right? Oh dear. Head back to the inn and talk to Papas, and he'll say that Duncan only had a common cold, so it's time to head back to Santa Rose. However, Bianca's mother begs you to stay the night. During the night, Bianca wakes you up and says that you need to get a move on if you're going to beat the ghosts of Lenoire and save the poor kitten! So head out of the inn, and walk south past the sleeping guard. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-B.2 - Onward to Lenoire | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 3 | +-------------+ Monsters in the area -------------------- #011 おおねずみ: Large Rat #004 ドラキー: Drakee #009 くびながイタチ: Long-necked Weasel #015 ベビーパンサー: Baby Panther #005 おおきづち: Large Hammer #007 グリーンワーム: Green Worm #006 いっかくウサギ: Horned Rabbit #010 バブルスライム: Bubble Slime Lenoire castle is located to the northwest of Alcapa. You can view the map by pressing □. However, I like to fight around Alcapa so I can afford a Boomerang, at the very least. If you run low on health, return to the inn in Alcapa, and you can rest. When you wake up you'll find that Papas has caught Duncan's cold, and you have to remain in Alcapa for a while. To give Lenoire another shot, just talk to Bianca on the first floor of the inn. To start with, walk around close to Alcapa until Bianca gains a few levels, or at least until the hero has learned ホイミ: Heal at level 4, and Bianca learns メラ: Frizz at level 3. After that, you can walk closer to Lenoire and fight larger groups of the same enemies. If you're feeling brave, you can move a little southeast from Alcapa and fight much harder enemies (especially on the little desert patch). Be careful, though; they're very difficult. Making the money necessary for a boomerang at this point in the game is kind of a lengthy time investment, but it does make the next area of the game a lot easier. If you don't care about getting a boomerang, then simply buy what you'd like and move on. From Alcapa, head west past the mountains, then turn north through the forest and cross the bridge. Follow the rocky area to another bridge and then head west into レヌール城: Lenoire Castle. +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-B.3 - レヌール城: Lenoire Castle | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 6 | +-------------+ Monsters in the area -------------------- #004 ドラキー: Drakee #009 くびながイタチ: Long-necked Weasel #010 バブルスライム: Bubble Slime #011 おおねずみ: Large Rat #012 スカルサーペント: Skull Serpent #025 ゴースト: Ghost #021 ナイトウイプス: Night Whips #026 おばけキャンドル: Demon Candle BOSS うごくせきぞう: Walking Statue BOSS おやぶんゴースト: Boss Ghost Outside-If you walk up to the front door, you'll find it's locked, so head around to the eastern side instead. On your way, you'll come across two pots. The right one has a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb), and the left has a キメラのつばさ: Chimera Wing. Continue north and rotate the camera to see some spiral stairs, so climb them. Skip the first landing and continue to the top and enter the castle. 7F-Walk south, past the coffins, and they will begin to shake. Some skeletons emerge and walk towards you. The lights go out and Bianca screams. She's gone! Continue downstairs. 6F-Walk north past the statues. As you walk, one of the statues' eyes will gleam. If you talk to it twice, you can fight an うごくせきぞう: Walking Statue. However, I highly recommend NOT fighting it until you get Bianca back, as it's *very* difficult. Head outside through the nearby door. Outside-As you step out, you'll hear the left gravestone moan. Walk over to it and check it. It says "Here lies Bianca," but your hero can't read! The grave shakes again, and you're given the option of opening the grave. Say はい: Yes. The grave opens, and Bianca pops out! Now that you have Bianca back, you can return and fight the Walking Statue if you'd like. It's very difficult, even with Bianca. To give yourself a fighting chance, have Bianca cast マヌーサ: Dazzle and ルカナン: Kasap which she learns at level 7. Rukanan is only half as powerful as ルカニ: Sap, so you'll have to cast it twice to get full defense reduction. If you win, you'll receive a まもりのたね: Defense Seed. Whether you fight it or not, enter the door to the west from the outside area with the graves. 6F-Head south past the bookcases and talk to the ghostly queen. She will notice your party and open the passage for you. Head to the newly available staircase. 5F-Head east and north through the double doors. Speak with the queen on the sofa, and she will introduce her self as ソフィア: Sophia, the queen of Lenoire. She'll mention that more than ten years ago, the people of the castle were killed by demons. She then asks you to get rid of the ghosts so that she and her husband, エリック: Eric, can rest in peace. Walk west to the corner and open the right wardrobe for a ておりのケープ: Handwoven Cape), and the left for a 薬草: yakusou (Medical Herb). Head directly south and rotate the camera to find more wardrobes. Open the right one for a 銀のトレイ: ぎんのトレイ (Silver Tray). Leave the room the way you came and continue east, then north to the stairs. 4F-It's dark here. Wait for the lightning, and make your way south to the stairs. 3F-As you enter, you'll see someone move to the southwest, so follow them. You'll be on a catwalk; continue west through the door. You'll see the person walking north again, so continue following north and through the small blue door. Outside-Talk to Eric. He'll pretty much say what Sophia said: they can't rest until the ghosts are driven out. He'll ask you to defeat their boss. Say はい: Yes. He'll mention that the boss ghost is on level 4, in the throne room, before asking if you passed through a dark floor on the way there and saying that you need to pass through the door there. Go back inside. 3F-As you enter, the king will float by saying that you won't be able to see anything, so you should grab the torch from the kitchen first. Walk towards him and down the stairs. 2F-Walk forward and enter the door that opens. Walk across the catwalk through the door. The man wandering here will mention the increase in monster activity in the world, and wonder if the demon king ミルドラース: Mildrath has returned. Head downstairs. 1F-Head south and enter the door that opens to the west. Now you are in the main hall of the castle. Head south through the door, and open the door beyond it. Now you can enter through the front door! Return to the main hall and enter the door to the west. The small door to the north has an inn. You can stay for free, but watch out. When you wake up, you'll be outside of the castle. Aren't you glad you opened the front door? Enter the cave near where you wake up, and open the door. Head through the corridor and up the stairs. Open the chests here to find 銀のティーカップ: ぎんのティーカップ (Silver Teacup), 30 gold, and a ちからのたね: Strength Seed. Return to the room with the inn and head down the stairs. B1-Head around to the eastern side of the kitchen and break the pots to find a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb) and the たいまつ: Torch! Head back upstairs. 1F-Head east through two sets of doors, then north up the stairs. 2F-Enter the door to the west, cross the catwalk, enter another door, then go up the stairs to the south. 3F-Go north and head up another set of stairs. 4F-Use the たいまつ: Torch here, and head south, east and north into the throne room. Speak to the enemy here. He'll thank you for coming, and ask if you'd like to come to dinner. You have to say はい: Yes. He'll say that you'll be the main course, and drops you onto the plate in the kitchen! You'll then be raised to the main hall and be forced to fight three おばけキャンドル: Demon Candle. When the fight's over, head back up to the throne room. You might want to rest at the inn first; there's a boss fight coming up. Back on 4F, head towards the throne room, and you'll see the enemy from before walk outside. Heal up, give Bianca some Medical Herbs if you'd like to be safe and follow him outside. Talk to him for a fight. --BOSS----------------------------------------------------------------------- おやぶんゴースト: Boss Ghost -HP: 200 / MP: 40 -Casts メラ: Frizz, ギラ: Sizz, and ルカニ: Sap -My level: 7 The boss will always attack on odd-numbered turns, and use one of his abilities (either Blaze, Fireball or Sap) on even numbered turns. At the start, have Bianca cast ルカナン: Kasap, and then マヌーサ: Dazzle on the next turn. After that, she can use her メラ: Frizz spell to do some damage, or use herbs to heal. Just have the hero attack, and use ホイミ: Heal if necessary and you should come out on top. If you can't seem to do enough damage, cast Defense again. Remember, it's only half as powerful as Sap. You'll receive 300 experience points and 180 gold for winning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------/BOSS-- After the battle, the boss ghost will agree to leave, and mentions that once he's gone, the rest of the ghosts are sure to clear out as well. Then he will ask for forgiveness. Once again, you have to say はい: Yes. Afterwards, the king and queen will bring you up to the roof and thank you for getting rid of the ghosts. They'll say goodbye, and depart to their eternal rest. Bianca will notice a shining orb on the ground, and you'll receive the ゴールドオーブ: Gold Orb. That's almost all there is for this place; there's just two more items to get. Return to 4F and fall down the hole in the eastern hallway to find two more chests. The right one has a キメラのつばさ: Chimera Wing, and the left has a 銀のポット: ぎんのポット (Silver Pot). If you collected the Silver Tray and the Silver Teacup, you'll receive a message saying that you've completed the 銀のティーセット: ぎんのティーセット (Silver Teaset) and you'll receive said item in place of the individual three. This is your first 名産品: Regional Specialty Product; it's not useful at this point in the game, so save it for later. Go ahead and leave Lenoire and head back to Alcapa and see if you can't free that baby panther! Back in town, you'll learn that tales of your heroic deeds have spread through the town like wildfire. The next morning, you'll confront the two bullies and they'll agree to leave the poor baby panther alone and he'll come along with you. If you'd like to keep what Bianca has equipped, you should unequip it from her now before you head back towards the inn. As you walk away, Bianca will stop you and say that you should give a name to the panther. She'll suggest ボロンゴ: Borongo, and you can accept that one, or say いいえ: No to see more preset names. You now get 10 name choices for the panther in this version of the game, over the original 4. The name choices are: ボロンゴ: Borongo, プックル: Puckle, アンドレ: Andre, チロル: Chirol, リンクス: Lynx, ゲレゲレ: Gere-gere, モモ: Momo, ソロ: Soro, ビビンバ: Bibinba, and ギコギコ: Giko-giko. Choose whichever you like best (I choose Borongo, and that's how I'll refer to him in this guide), and then continue to the inn. If you'd like, you can buy a きのぼうし: Wooden Hat for Borongo before leaving town. Speak with Papas out front, who is apparently all better now. He'll say that you should be returning back to Santa Rose, and ask if you're ready to leave. Say はい: Yes. As you start off, Bianca calls your name and then gives you ビアンカのリボン: Bianca's Ribbon to remember her by, and decides to put it on Borongo. As you walk out, Papas will stop and mention that he heard about the ghosts, and that he's proud of you, but you're still a child and shouldn't work so hard. Say はい: Yes, and you'll head back to Santa Rose. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-C - A magical world | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 7 | +-------------+ After returning to town and having a nice rest, head downstairs. If you talk to Sancho, you'll learn that his cutting board is missing. Head outside. If you talk to more people, you'll learn that more than just Sancho's cutting board is missing; people all over town are missing things! Near the church, you will spot a man in purple. Speak to him, and he'll ask if he can have a look at your gold orb. Go ahead and say はい: Yes, and he'll take a look and give it right back. He'll also tell you to take good care of your father, whatever that means. Now it's time to figure out where all of the missing items have gone, so head into the tavern, which is in the basement of the inn. If you look closely, you'll see a ghostly figure standing on the counter. Talk to her, and she'll ask if you can really see her, and mentions that she needs your help but that you shouldn't talk about it here. She wants to meet someplace quiet, somewhere with a basement. Well, there's only one house in town with a basement, so head back to Sancho's place. Downstairs, the girl will say that she's an elf named ベラ: Bella. She's come to this world seeking help because her world is in danger, but nobody could see her until you came along. Papas will come downstairs and wonder what the voices were, and then says that you should play someplace warmer. He'll go back upstairs, and Bella will ask you for your help and then makes a stairway of light appear. She'll ask if you'll retrieve the flute, so say はい: Yes and Bella will accompany you. Head down the stairs and outside. Around town, you'll hear that 氷の館: Mansion of Ice is where the suspect is holed up, but that it's locked, but that the dwarves may be able to help with that. Unfortunately, rumors say that one dwarf who may be able to help was kicked out of town. Walk directly south from the queen's tree to the bit of land that's between two little ponds, and search a little to the right of the northern part for an 命の木の実: いのちのきのみ (Life Nut). Inside the inn, the dwarf in the back acts as a general store. The only thing I usually buy here is a いしのキバ: Stone Fang for Borongo. Leave the inn. The armor shop is on the east side of town. Inside, check the wardrobe for a 聖水: せいすい (Holy Water). Here, I usually buy かわのこしまき: Leather Loincloth for Borongo, and if I can afford it, うろこのよろい: Scale Armor for the hero. I do recommend fighting around a little if you couldn't afford armor for the hero, though, as the next part can be a little rough if you don't. Bella is automatically controlled in battle, much like Papas. She'll usually just attack, and cast heal when necessary, but she's also capable of casting ルカナン: Kasap. Also, Borongo will not always obey your commands in battle. He is considered a monster ally, and they will not reliably obey your commands until their intelligence is around 20. He'll mention that ザイル: zairu (Zaile) stole the flute, and the dwarves were kicked out of town for trying to retaliate. He'll then say that he wants you to have the カギの技法: Technique of the Key, which may be able to help you in your pursuit of Zaile. Head out of the room and continue south to the stairs, ignoring the path to the east. B2-Ignore the stairs going down, and walk north through a tiny opening. Take the right path and continue east, when you're able, to some stairs. B3-Head east and just a tiny bit south to find a chest with a すばやさのたね: Agility Seed. Open the chest you see for 120 gold, then move south to another chest which contains a 命の木の実: いのちのきのみ (Life Nut). You're done here, so head back up and out of the cave. Now you have the key technique and can unlock the door to 氷の館: Mansion of Ice, but you should probably head back to to Fairy Village and rest at the inn, save, and maybe buy another piece of equipment for the hero. Sometimes, I buy a かがわのフード: Fur Hood for him now. If you do stay at the inn, you'll wake up in Sancho's house. Simply go back to the basement and go up the stairs again to return to the fairy world. Her こおりつく: Ice Breath will do 13~16 damage to the hero and Borongo (and about 5 to Bella), and after using taking a deep breath, if she attacks, she will do twice as much damage. She does have a pattern, sort of. She will attack or use こおりつく: Ice Breath, then attack or cast ヒャド: Crack, and then cast ホイミ: Heal or take a deep breath, which doubles her attack power for the next round. It's wise to have any character with low HP defend after she does this. She has the ability to kill Bella outright if she hits her after using it. Hopefully, Bella will cast ルカナン: Kasap, as it's quite effective here. Other than that, just have the hero and Borongo attack, and have the hero heal when Bella isn't picking up the slack. You'll receive 650 experience points and 200 gold for winning. She can also drop a キメラのつばさ: Chimera Wing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------/BOSS-- After the battle, she'll explode and Zaile will exclaim that the Ice Queen was evil after all. He'll lament about being tricked and apologize, then run off before he's scolded by his grandfather. He'll also mention that the flute is in the chest there. Go ahead and open the chests to find a ブーメラン: bu-meran (Boomerang) and the 春風のフルート: はるかぜのフルート (Springtide Flute). It's time to head back to Fairy Village! Head on up to Lady Powan's throne and speak with her. She'll thank you for retrieving the flute, saying that now she can bring spring back into the world. She then promises you that, if when you are all grown up and run into trouble, she will do her best to help you. Bella also says her goodbyes, and gives you one 木の枝: きのえだ (Tree Branch), saying that the branch is frozen now, but wait until spring! Powan then plays the Springtide Flute and brings spring into the world once again. Then you leave the fairy world and arrive back in Sancho's basement. If you check your inventory, you'll see that サクラのひとえだ: Cherry Tree Branch has been added to your inventory. This is yet another Regional Specialty item, so just throw it into your bag, and then head up the stairs. As you emerge from the basement, Sancho will wonder where you've been, as Papas has been summoned to ラインハット: Reinhart, but you were not around! If you hurry, you might catch up with him... so let's go! On your way out, Sancho will remark at the beautiful branch sticking out of your pocket, and asks if you want him to decorate your room with it. If you say yes, you can get it back by checking the table in your room. It's pretty to see it on the table, but you'll need it later, so make sure you get it back after you have him display it. The first thing you should do before going after Papas is save, so head to the church. Inside, you'll find Papas. Around the castle, you'll hear about what a brat prince ヘンリ: Henry is, and how worried people are about him inheriting the throne. If you speak to the green-haired boy, you'll learn that he's prince Henry. He'll ask if you want to be his follower. You have to say はい: Yes. He'll then laugh, and say that he'd never allow someone like you the honor of being under him! You'll also find the queen and her son デール: Dale in one of the rooms. It seems that she has some plans for her own son, as far as the throne is concerned. If you keep talking to people, you'll also learn that she's been meeting with some rather suspicious characters, too. The left dresser in the room by the priest has some ふしぎな木の実: ふしぎなきのみ (Mysterious Nuts) in it. He's not very happy about his new job, either, but he and the king are old friends, so he couldn't just say no. He asks you if you'll make friends with Henry and play with him, to make his life easier. Go speak to Henry, and he'll ask you the same question he asked before, so say yes again. This time, he'll agree and send you to the room to the south to acquire the 子分のしるし: Follower's Seal. When you go to open the chest, it's empty... so go back to Henry, who is apparently gone! Run and tell Papas about it, and he'll rush to check on Henry. When you arrive in the room, Henry is back again... what's going on? Confront him, and he'll say that he was here the whole time and then ask you if you still want to be his follower. Repeat the whole process, but this time check the floor where Henry was standing to find a secret passage. Go down. Henry will be upset that you already found him. Before he can say anything more, two men barge in and kidnap him! Follow them, and you'll see them get on a raft and head out of town. We must tell Papas! Head back inside the castle and tell Papas what transpired, then he'll rush out the same path you took, then straight out of town, leaving his poor child and his baby panther all alone. Some father! Before leaving, it's advisable to buy some new equipment and restock your items. Usually, all I bother with is a てつのたて: Iron Shield for the hero. てつかぶと: Iron Helmet is a good buy, as well, if you can afford it. Continue following the path until it opens up to the north, then go north. You'll be in the dungeon, and Papas will walk up to the cell that Henry's in. It's locked, so Papas uses his enormous strength to rip the door right off its hinges! Henry, being the brat he is, isn't thankful at all. He throws a fit because you took so long to rescue him. Papas gives him a good slap and tells him to think about his father's feelings. He then tells him to hurry up before the pursuers catch up. Sure enough, they do, so Papas tells you to hurry out of the ruins with Henry while he holds them off. Get back ont he raft and go south. Gema will then call his cronies ジャミ: Jami and ゴンズ: Gonz, and a battle will ensue. Afterwards, Gema will threaten to take the hero's life if Papas continues to fight back. Jami and Gonz proceed to beat Papas to a pulp... Papas will shout out to the hero "Your mother yet lives! Gema then notices the gold orb that Ness has... wondering if it's "that" orb... and then crushes it into dust. The group will teleport away, leaving poor Borongo to fend for himself. :( "Thus, --having just lost his father, and prince Henry were carried to a foreign place. Speak with Henry a few times, and you'll see Maria and her brother approach your cell and open the door. Maria thanks you, and Maria's brother, ジョシュア: Joshua will help you escape. Hooray! Walk over to the barrel to begin your journey. Eventually, your barrel will makes its way to a convent by the sea. .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. | II-E.1 - 海辺の修道院: Seaside Convent Lv. 11 | +=========================================================================+ | Services | | Church | | Inn: Free | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | No shops | +=========================================================================+ When you wake up, a nun will greet you, saying you've been unconcious for 5 whole days. Get up and leave the room, and you'll find Henry. Apparently, Maria's decided to become a nun and live here at the convent. Boo! When you regain control, head south but head left before going through the exit door. Speak with the nun at the table to receive the 木ぼりの女神像: きぼりのめがみぞう (Wooden Goddess Statue). This is another regional specialty, but unlike the previous ones, you can equip this one to give yourself a boost in your luck stat. Since I don't have an accessory equipped at this point, I usually equip it for the heck of it. Head out of this room and to the room on the right, rotate the camera and head up the stairs to speak with Maria. She'll give you the 1000 gold from her brother, since she won't need it any longer. Head outside. Henry will be waiting at the exit, and he'll tell you to let him know when you want to leave. Speak with him again, and say はい: Yes and he'll go let everyone know you're leaving. After a farewell scene, Henry will join your party, you'll be on your way. In the room below the one with the man in it, the left dresser has a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket). Head back outside, and head to the house in the far northeast of of town, with a well next to it. Open the dresser inside for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Go ahead and enter the casino, now. Head to the dressing room in the back and open the wardrobes for a きめのローブ: Silk Robe and a 銀のかみかざり: ぎんのかみかざり (Silver Barrette). The woman at the left counter will allow you to exchange gold for coins, and the woman at the right counter will let you exchange your coins for prizes. The list of prizes is as follows: エルフののみぐすり: Elfin Elixir 300 coins せかいじゅのは: Yggdrasil Leaf 1000 coins メガンテのうでわ: Megante Armlet 5000 coins キラーピアス: Killer Pierce 10000 coins メタルキングのけん: Metal King Sword 50000 coins グリンガムのムチ: Gringham Whip 250000 coins -- TODO: Casino strategies ---------------------------------------------- If you take the stairs on the left, you'll enter a room not present in the original version of the game. This is the first sugoroku board. You should have a few sugoroku tickets by now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sugoroku is a pretty simple game: you roll the dice, and move along the board similar to a game of chutes and ladders, with your ultimate goal being, well, the goal at the end, where you will claim some prizes. There are also some items strewn about the board itself, hidden on pot/dresser/barrel squares. The items hidden on this board are: かしこさのたね: Intelligence Seed, 毛皮のマント: けがわのマント (Fur Mantle), すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket), and ブーメラン: Boomerang. There's also an item shop hidden on this board, which has the following wares: やくそう: Medical Herb 8G どくけしそう: Antidote Herb 10G ばくだんいし: Bomb Rock 450G ファイトいっぱつ: 600G If you reach the goal, you'll find 小さなメダル: Small Medal #001, and a やいばのブーメラン: Blade Boomerang. I strongly suggest at least trying to make it to the goal, as both of the items are must-haves at this point. When you begin the game, you'll receive a menu like this: +--------------------------------+ | あと 10かい (Turns left: 10) | |--------------------------------| | サイコロをふる (Roll Dice) | | マップをみる (View Map) | | つよさをみる (View Status) | | やめる (Stop) | +--------------------------------+ Just choose the first option to begin rolling the dice, and then move once your roll has been completed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you've finished with the casino (and hopefully gotten the medal and the blade boomerang, which I equip to the hero), head over to the western side of town. You should see some stairs going down, so take them. Break the pots here for a まもののエサ: Monster Bait and an おなべのふた: Pot Lid, and then speak with the old man. He introduces himself as モンスターじいさん: Monster Gramps and basically says that he thinks you have a strong heart, and could tame any beast. Before you can tame beasts, though, you need a wagon... so let's get that taken care of. Leave here, and head out of town. Walk around and fight things until nighttime, and then re-enter the town. Head to the northwest, past Monster Gramps's place and the bank, following the outside wall. You'll come to a small isolated house, so enter. The man here says he'll sell you a wagon. Normally, he sells it for 3000 gold, but... you can have it for 300. What a deal! Get it. Now that we have the wagon, we can start recruiting monsters. The way monster recruitment works in DQ5 is very simple: certain kinds of monsters have a chance to approach you after battle, asking to join. You can either choose to accept, or decline. There's no real downside to letting every monster join, because Monster Gramps can take care of any monster you don't want to have in your wagon. In this guide, I'll only mention the monsters that I like to recruit, or that I think are good. Feel free to recruit whomever you wish, though! Before leaving town, make sure Henry has some decent equipment. You should have a few things in your bag that he can use, if you didn't sell it. If you don't have much for him, you may want to buy a suit of chain mail for him now, though there is some free armor coming up pretty soon. I also go ahead and buy a chain cross for him, here. Monsters in the area -------------------- #001 スライム: Slime * #033 ベビーニュート: Baby Newt #042 ガスミンク: Gas Mink #038 わらいぶくろ: Laughing Bag #039 ブラウニー: Brownie * If you feel that Henry is taking a beating, you may want to place him into the wagon for a bit until he gets some levels. If your wagon is with you, members in it may gain experience. In order to reorder your party/wagon, go to さくせん: Strategy and select ならびかえ: Order. The first monster I try to recruit is a slime. They can be found around Oracleberry. After recruiting the slime (named スラりん: Slalin), give him your old boomerang (or, if you got one, a metal king sword). Then head into town and buy him a set of スライムのふく: Slime Clothes. Go ahead and buy a くさりがま: kusarigama (Chain Sickle) and a せいどうのよろい: Bronze Armor and put them into the bag until you get your next monster. Next is slime knight. Leave town and head north across the bridge, and then as far east as you can. You're in the right place when there's a canal and some brown mountains on the other side of the canal to your north. The stuff around here is a bit difficult, but it's not too bad, and it's a wonderful opportunity to catch Henry and Slalin up. Once you finally recruit one, put the chain sickle and bronze armor on him. I use these two monsters for the majority of the game. Slimes have really great stat growth, and no level cap. Slime knights are very strong fighters, and can cast healing spells as well, making them invaluable. +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-E.3 - Getting back on track | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 12 | +--------------+ Now that we have our party together, it's time to get back on track. From Oracleberry, head north across the bridge and continue northwest. Eventually, you'll come to Santa Rose. When you enter, you'll see that the entire town is in ruins. If you speak with the nun in the inn, she'll tell you that the destruction was the queen of Reinhart's doing. She blamed Papas for Henry's disappearance, and torched the town. She'll then ask if you're really Papas's son, so say はい: yes. Head to the house to the left of the inn, and break the pot for a かしこさのたね: Intelligence Seed, then head through and speak with the old man. He'll mention that Papas had something valuable, deep within the cave. Get on the raft, and head in. +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-E.4 - サンタローズの洞くつ: Santa Rose Cave | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 12 | +--------------+ Monsters in the area -------------------- #001 スライム: Slime * #027 がいこつへい: Skeleton Soldier #028 アルミラージ: Almiraj #035 どぐうせんし: Clay Soldier #039 ブラウニー: Brownie * #048 アウルベアー: Owl Bear #043 メタルスライム: Metal Slime * #047 くさったしたい: Rotting Corpse * #046 ともしびこぞう #051 ガメゴン: Gamegon You may encounter metal slimes, here... but you'll be lucky if you manage to kill one without many means to do so. B2-Head north, and left at the T intersection. You should see a chest to the northeast, so get the 850G from it, and then head west. Head north at the next intersection and take the stairs going down. B3-Follow the path until you come to an intersection. You'll see two chests to the north. Open them to get a すばやさのたね: Agility Seed and a 鉄のむねあて: てつのむねあて (Iron Breastplate). This is the free armor I mentioned before. Equip it on Henry, then head back to the stairs at the intersection. B2-This floor contains a weird floor puzzle. Wherever you step on this floor will become walkable on the floor below. It's easiest to just walk over all of the floor, then take the stairs to the north. B3-Head south and open the chest for the やみのランプ: Lamp of Darkness. This will turn day into night! Head down the stairs to the right. B4-Follow the path, skipping the southern path with all of the columns, instead continuing to the left. then turning south, and taking the first right path. Then just walk south, taking either the left or right path to find some stairs. B5-It looks like someone's spent quite a bit of time down here. Open the wardrobe on the right side for a 皮のこしまき: かわのこしまき (Leather Loincloth) and break the pot for a ちからのたね: chikara no tane (Strength Seed). Walk up to the sword and you'll receive the 天空のつるぎ: てんくうのつるぎ (Celestial Sword). Unfortunately, the hero can't use this. Oh well. Open the chest to receive パパスの手紙: パパスのてがみ (Papas's Letter). In the letter, Papas says that your mother isn't dead, she's been taken to the demon world. He asks you to find the rest of the Celestial equipment, and the legendary warrior who can wield it and then save her! Head out of the cave, now. If you speak with the nun at the church again, she'll ask if you're really going to search for the legendary equipment. Say yes, and she'll mention that we may be able to find something in Alcapa, and that the hero must be wanting to catch up with Bianca after all this time. Looks like we have a new destination! Now, use the やみのランプ: Lamp of Darkness and it will be nighttime. Head to the northwestern corner, into the bar. Speak with the bunny girl here, and say いいえ: iie (No) to her question, and she'll unlock the door. Head through and go down the stairs in the corner. Break the pots here for Small Medal #002, and note the weird-looking door here for later. Head to the inn, and rest. During the night, Henry will wake you up and say that he wants to return to Reinhart and see what's going on. Excellent! When you wake up, stay another night and then speak with the woman in the room behind the innkeeper. First, she'll say that Duncan and his daughter moved to a mountain village by the sea, and then she'll say you've won a prize for staying at this inn two nights in a row! She'll give you the 安眠まくら: あんみんまくら (Soft Pillow), which is another specialty product. Just throw it into the bag, like the others. Return the way you came and take the path you skipped and follow the path until you see a woman in a cell to your left. She says she's the real queen and admits to having Henry kidnapped 10 years ago, so her son (Dale) could become king. Let her stew for a while, and continue on, taking the right path to some stairs. 1F-Follow the path north, making sure to step on the switch here. Then head up the stairs. You'll be in the castle courtyard. If you speak with any of the dogs, you'll enter a fight with a ドラゴンキッズ: Dragon Kid. It's a regular fight, nothing special about it. Enter the left door, and you'll find yourself in the kitchen. Exit to the left and go up the stairs. Head to the throne room, and speak with the king. You'll see that it's Dale, Henry's brother. Henry whispers to Dale that followers should obey their masters, revealing his identity in the process. After learning that the real queen is in the dungeon, Dale gives you the ラインハットのカギ: Reinhart Key. Go to Henry's room and check the stool to uncover the hidden staircase from before, then open the door to your north to enter the storage room. Break the pot in the far left for Small Medal #003, then check the bookcase on the right. The book mentions a tower that holds a magic mirror. Take the stairs here, and then take the teleporter ahead of you. Exit to the world map, and head south to the tower there. Check the door to find that it's sealed shut. The book mentioned that a pure heart could open the door. We know someone like that! You're actually just south of the seaside convent, which is precisely where we need to go. Head north, cross the bridge, and you'll come to it eventually. Head inside and walk north and speak with the nun by the organ. who will mention that the tower can only be opened by a maiden of god. From here, follow the narrow pathway around the hole to the west until you come to an opening. Go through, and north to the stairs. 4F-Head south and east to more stairs. 5F-Head north to find a gap in the walkway. This part is a bit tricky, so I'll do my best to illustrate how to get across. __ __ __ |__|__|__| |__|__|__| <-- walkway xx xxxxx <-- open space - walk where the Xs are. __ xx __ |__|__|__| |__|__|__| <-- walkway The gist of the drawing is to center yourself on the walkway, and walk forward until you're halfway across, then walk west a little, and then continue north until you've crossed. It's really quite simple, but I hope my crappy drawing has helped a bit. Once you're across, examine the mirror on the pedastal to acquire the ラーの鏡: ラーのかがみ (Mirror of Ra). We're done here, so drop down the holes to get to the bottom, and exit the tower. Head back to the teleporter to the north to be taken back to Reinhart. There's a boss fight coming up, so it's a good idea to rest at the inn in town and save at the church inside the castle. To do this, exit through the side door through which Henry was taken when he was kidnapped. Once you're through, head through the side door again, and exit through the door south of the store room to come to the familiar courtyard. Make your way back to the throne room and take the stairs behind the throne, then enter the bedroom here. Dale will say that he doesn't know which one of these is the real queen. Walk up to the one on the left, and use the ラーのかがみ: Mirror of Ra. It will reveal her for the impostor that she is, and a boss fight will start! --BOSS----------------------------------------------------------------------- ニセたいこう: Impostor Queen -HP: 650 -Can call わらいぶくろ: Laughing Bag or がいこつへい: Skeleton Soldier to help, uses きあいため: Charge Up, かえんの息: Flame Breath -My level: 14 This boss can be a bit difficult. Her flame breath might do 40~60 damage, which hurts a little. Keep Pierre and the hero on standby to heal after she does this. マヌーサ: Dazzle is effective here, so have Henry use it immediately, followed by ルカナン: Kasap. It's also a good idea to equip the はがねのキバ on Slalin for this fight, since single-target weapons can crit, and it's a pretty strong weapon anyway. She does have a pattern, of sorts. She'll either attack or summon a laughing bag, the charge up or use flame breath, and then attack or summon a skeleton soldier. Slalin will take a ton of damage from flame breath, so it's very wise to have him defend on the second turn, and then every 2 turns afterwards. Once you've used dazzle and kasap, just have everyone attack. You shouldn't have too much trouble, as long as you keep everyone's health up above 50 or so. If you do find yourself having trouble, have Slalin use スクルト: Kabuff at the beginning - it will help against her physical attacks. Also, make sure to kill the laughing bags as soon as they appear, as they can cast マホトーン: Fizzle, preventing you from healing. You'll receive 790 experience points and 540 gold for winning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------/BOSS-- Once you win, the impostor queen will fade away and you'll be in the throne room. Dale will want Henry to be king, but Henry won't hear of it. He'll just... help him rule, instead. Thus, Henry will leave the party, and all of his belongings will be magically sent to the bag. Awesome. Go ahead and give his old かわのぼうし: Leather Hat to Pierre, since he doesn't have a helmet (in my game, anyway). If you speak to Henry, he'll say that ships are running once again from ビスタの港: Port Vista. He'll also give you a ふくびき券: ふくびきけん (Lottery Ticket). Looks like we have a new destination. Since Henry left, we'll need a fourth party member. For now, just throw a random monster in - we'll get someone else very soon. Leave Reinhart, and head back through the small shrine. On the other side, head west towards Santa Rose, and start south bit once you've passed it. Eventually, you'll come upon Port Vista (you should remember it from the beginning of the game). Board the ship here, and the captain will say that you almost missed the boat! The boat departs, and a new leg of your journey begins. +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-G - Old friends | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 15 | +--------------+ Once you arrive, head out of the door to the north. .-------------------------------------------------------------------------. Magic Shield 3400G | +=========================================================================+ You'll emerge at Port Selmi, which is a rather nice town. Head back down the stairs and out of the lighthouse. If you go south of the pier where you first arrived, you'll come to some stairs, which lead to Monster Gramps. Break the pots down here for a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket), and then head back up. Head west into the town proper. At the item shop, you can buy a few new things. The main thing to note, however, is that this store carries マジックシールド: Magic Shields. They're kind of expensive, but they reduce fire damage. At this point, I just buy one for Slalin. Head left to the church, but don't go inside. Instead, head into the flower bed to the right of it. Throw some of the flowers out of the way, and check the ground in front of the first window to receive Small Medal #005. Head to the flowerbed on the opposite side, and check the ground near the second window (near the back) to receive 100 gold. Inside the church, you can take the stairs behind the priest to find the bank. A weird place for a bank, indeed. Head west from the church to the weapon/armor shop. Head upstairs and check the wardrobe for a pair of ステテコパンツ: Boxer Shorts. The shops here sell all manner of interesting things, but it's all very expensive and mostly unnecessary. The only thing I buy here is a suit of はがねのよろい: Steel Armor for the hero. If you're low on money, check your bag for old equipment you'll never use again. Make sure to hang onto the はがねのキバ: Steel Fang, a てつのむねあて: Iron Breastplate, and a チェーンクロス: Chain Cross for later. Head north of the church and enter the inn, then head over to the east to find two bandits beating on a poor farmer. They want his money, but he says the money belongs to the village. The bandits ask you if you have a problem, so say はい: Yes and a fight with two さんぞくウルフ: Bandit Wolf will begin. You've fought them before; they're very easy. After the battle, the farmer will thank you and beg you to help him. Say はい: Yes, and he will explain that a monster has been rampaging in his village's fields, and they need someone strong to get rid of it. It pays 3000 gold, and he'll give you half now and half when the job is completed. After the conversation, head onto the stage and through the door behind it. Open the wardrobes in the dressing room for a きめのエプロン: Silk Apron. Return to the main area and head up the stairs by the wall on the west side. Break the pot in the first room for 50 gold, then open the wardrobe in the second room for a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket). The old lady at the counter with the innkeeper runs the lottery, where you can use those ふくびき券: ふくびきけん (Lottery Tickets) you've found. -- TODO: Fill in information about the lottery. That's everything here, so it's time to help that poor farmer out. Exit town, and head due south. When you regain control, head up the stairs in front of you. Open the bottom set of drawers for a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket). Turn around and break the far left pot for Small Medal #008. The center pot behind that one contains a 魔法の聖水: まほうのせいすい (Magic Holywater). Go back downstairs and speak with the elder. On the first turn of this battle, have your hero USE ビアンカのリボン: Bianca's Ribbon. When you do so, the monster will recognize the small and tackle/hug the hero. It's really Borongo! After the fight, Borongo will bring a sword to you. This is パパスのつるぎ: Papas's Sword. Borongo will then join your party! Give him the はがねのキバ: Steel Fang, ビアンカのリボン: Bianca's Ribbon, and てつのむねあて: Iron Breastplate. We're all done here, so have the hero cast リレミト: Evac. Return to Kabochi. Stay at the inn if you need to (or if it's nighttime). If you talk around town, people will notice Borongo with you and think you planned this whole thing just to steal their money. Head to the elder's house, and speak with him. He's not happy about this, one bit... but he will give you your other 1500 gold, anyway, and then basically tells you to get out of his sight. Exit the elder's house, and speak with the farmer inside the storehouse to the north, and then examine the scarecrow in the field to the east. You'll be asked if you want to take it with you, so say はい: hai (Yes), and you'll receive the コワモテかかし: Fearsome Scarecrow which is yet another regional specialty. Exit town. Break the bottom left pot for Small Medal #011. Break the pot on the top right for a すばやさのたね: Agility Seed. Now, walk all the way west past the item shop, and go north. Rotate the camera, and follow the path. To the south is the weapon/armor shop if you need it. It sells weapons during the day, and armor at night. I don't personally buy anything from the weapon shop. Whether you went south to the shop or not, head onto the grass and turn west. You'll see a note on the northern well. Head directly south from here, through a hidden passage and you'll come to a house all by itself. Before you enter, break the pot nearby for a キメラのつばさ: Chimera Wing. Inside, ignore the man for a second and break the top-most barrel for a 魔法の聖水: まほうのせいすい (Magic Holywater), then break the top-most pot in the upper corner for a 薬草: やくそう (Medical Herb). Speak with the man, whose name is ベネット: Bennet. He'll ask if you're here to complain about the smoke. Say いいえ: No. He'll then describe what he's working on: a spell that can transport you to a place you've been in no time flat. Then, he'll ask if you want to assist in his research. Say はい: Yes. Upstairs, he'll show you a map. He needs you to go get the ルラムーン草: Ruramoon Herb, which only grows at night. He'll show you exactly where it grows, so we only need to walk there. Then he'll ask if you want him to repeat it, so say no. Now he'll take a nap, while we do the dirty work. Exit his house, and use the やみのランプ: Lamp of Darkness). Make your way over to where the weapon shop was and speak with the armor merchant. At this point, I buy a てっかめん: Iron Mask for the hero, and a てつかぶと: Iron Helm for Borongo. I also strongly recommend buying another マジックシールド: Magic Shield for the hero, as it will come in handy very soon. If you're low on money, make sure you sell some of the equipment you have in your bag. It's safe to sell almost all of it. Sell any leather shields, scale shields, leather loincloths, and generally low-level armor that you might have kicking around. Also, sell that stone axe you got in the monster's den, Borongo's old iron claw, the iron breastplate you found, and so forth. Once you're finished here, head out of town. Turn northwest from Ruraphen, and you'll come across a pathway going up onto a 'hill.' Once you climb it, continue straight west across a bridge, and go down the hill on the other side. View your map here (press □). See the small bit of forest at the far southern coast? That's our destination. When you reach the forest, use the やみのランプ: Lamp of Darkness if it's not already nighttime. You should see a small herb between the water and the forest. Examine it to claim the ルラムーン草: Ruramoon Herb. Head back to Ruraphen! Head to Bennet's house and give him the herb, then follow him downstairs and speak with him once more. After a very... interesting scene, After you wake up, he'll wonder if it worked. Go to the hero's magic menu, and use your new spell ルーラ: Zoom, but warp right back to Ruraphen, since we have one more thing to do here. Back in town, go inside the church and speak with the old man at the table in the upper right room. He'll ask if you wouldn't like to hear the legend about the ルラフェンの地酒: Ruraphen Local Sake. Say no, and he'll tell the story. After you hear it, head outside and use the やみのランプ: Lamp of Darkness again... then head into the bar. Go upstairs, and into the room where the man was eating in the daytime. He'll be looking at a pot. Speak with him, and then go see Bennet. He'll ask if you want to learn another spell, which would be nice... but say no. He'll talk about the legend, and eventually give you some ルラフェンの地酒: Ruraphen Local Sake) of your own, which is yet another regional specialty. +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | II-H - Two rings, and a decision | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | My level: 16 | +--------------+ Our next destination is south of Ruraphen. Speak with him, and then go to the counter left of him and examine it. If you're having trouble, stand directly left of him and face the counter, then open the menu and choose しらべる: Search. You'll receive the うわさのノート: Rumor Note, which is another regional specialty. Leave the rumor shrine. Continue south and enter the cave you see. Walk east and south and speak with the soldier. He bears a message from Henry, and asks you to return to Reinhart to visit him. Exit the cave and cast ルーラ: Zoom and go to オラクルベリ: Oracleberry. Return to where you bought the wagon at night, and speak with the man again. He'll be selling the モンスターボックス: Monster Box for 1000G. This is very much like the Monster Picture Book in Dragon Quest 7. It shows stats and other information about the enemies you've encountered. It's nice to have, but it's necessary to buy it anyway since what we're really after is the item he sells after this one. If you leave town and come back, he'll be selling something good for 5000G, the オラクルやののれん: Oracle Shop Curtain. The price is a bit hefty, but it's another regional specialty item. This one can be equipped, granting 30 defense power and 10 HP recovery every turn. It's well worth the money, so I recommend buying it as soon as possible. Come back later if you can't afford it just yet. Teleport to ラインハット: Reinhart. The shops in Reinhart don't have anything new, so head straight into the castle. Head up the stairs to the left of the entrance and through the door to the north. You'll find three chests which hold 鉄のよろい: てつのよろい (Iron Armor), 1200 gold, and an 命の木の実: いのちのきのみ (Life Nut). Give the iron armor to Pierre if it's better than what he has on. Head back down stairs and up to the throne room. Speak with Dale, and he'll tell you that he's been studying the legendary hero as well. He's heard that the hero's shield seems to have been found in サラボナ: Salabona. Head upstairs. Here, you'll find Henry and Maria sitting together. Speak with Henry, and you'll find that they've been married! He remarks that he always liked Maria, but thought that she liked you more, but Maria says that's silly, but she's sure you'll find someone special too! Henry then says that he regrets that you couldn't make it to his wedding, but he left you a souvenir in his old room. From here, head down to Henry's room (east past the large stairs on the first floor) and check the chest that he had you check near the beginning of the game for his follower's seal. You'll find a note. ". I've written this here, as I couldn't say it in person. I haven't forgotten about what happened to your father for even one day. I wanted to repay you someday if we managed to survive all of those years as slaves. I thought I'd give it my best shot. Even though my power wasn't good enough to help you find the legendary hero, you've helped me look after my country and its people. You were never my follower... you're my friend. -- Henry" Return to Henry, and he'll laugh, remarking about having tricked you once again. He then presents you with a beautifully crafted music box, the 記念オルゴール: memorial music box. This is another specialty product, so throw it into the bag. Henry says that you should try to find a wife like he did, even if your main goal is to rescue your mother. If you don't first find happiness for yourself, it might be too late! Leave the castle and teleport to Ruraphen. From there, head south past the rumor shrine and into the cave from before. Flora will come downstairs and raise a fuss, insisting one more time that she be allowed to marry whomever she chooses. Once the meeting is over, head upstairs and check the most northern wardrobe in Flora's room for a 銀のかみかざり: ぎんおかみかざり (Silver Barrette), and then go to Ludman's room and look in the drawers to find a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket), and a きめのエプロン: Silk Apron. The shops are open in town, now. There's some new stuff, but most of it isn't really necessary. I personally just buy a はじゃのつるぎ: Sword of Malice for Pierre, and that's it. You might want to buy a カメのこうら: Turtle Shell for Slalin if you didn't get the Oracle Shop Curtain, but the shop curtain is a much better value. If you weren't able to buy it before, I recommend going back to get it as soon as you get 5000G! Exit town and begin heading southeast. Around this area, you can recruit a キメラ: Chimera if you're so inclined. I love to have these outside of my main battle party, as they can learn some good healing magic. Whenever you come across a patch of damaging molten floor, remove everybody from your active party except for the hero. This way, only the hero will take damage. If you get into a battle, you can just bring your party members back in via the menu at the start of the battle. B1-Start heading west, and you'll run into Andy. He doesn't appear to be doing very well. :\ Continue past him until you can't go west any further, and go south to find a chest with 450 gold. From here, go north and follow the path around, avoiding any side paths and you'll find the stairs going down. B2-There's a lot of lava here. Head north and take the first path east, then head north at the fork to find a chest with a すごろく券: すごろくけん (Sugoroku Ticket) in it. Just a bit east, you'll see a ramp going down into a lava pit, and a chest on an island in the middle. Heed my advice above and remove everybody except the hero from your group, and make a run for it! Inside the chest is a まふうじの杖: まふうじのつえ Antimagic Staff. Head back a bit, past the chest with the sugoroku ticket and go south and east. After the path bends to the north, head off to the east and south to find the last chest on this floor, which contains a 鉄かぶと: Iron Helmet. I put this on Pierre, as it was better than what he had on. From here, just head north to the stairs. B3-Head a bit east and you'll see all kinds of pathways branching off. Take the left-most path going north to find a chest containing a まもりのたね: Defense Seed. Return to the big fork and go all the way west, following the bend all the way north. You'll find another molten path leading around to the south and a chest at the end containing 1500 gold. Return to the big group of forks once again, and take the second northbound path from the right. Once you're over the molten pathway, you'll see two paths going east. Take the southern one first to find some stairs. Below, you'll find a healing point to recover your party's HP and MP. She says she'd love to go adventuring with you again, but isn't happy to hear that you're getting married. Regardless, she asks you to say the night and so you do. When you wake up, go speak with Duncan. He tells you that Bianca isn't his real daughter, and that he doesn't have much longer to live. He wants you to stay with her and take care of her once he passes. As you sit down to breakfast, Bianca says that she wants to help you get the water ring. She can open the flood gate, so she'll join the party. At this point, the game will force Bianca into your party every time you enter a town. She joins at a very low level (10), and is pretty awful in battle. Fortunately, the game does NOT force you to take her into the waterfall cave in this version, so if you don't want to use her in battles, you don't have to. Follow the path west, south and east until you find a ramp going down into some water, and a fork in the road. First, continue east up another ramp and go down the stairs you find. Once there, you'll find a chest containing an エルフののみぐすり: Elfin Elixir. Go back upstairs and take the northern path around. Skip the door for a second and get the chest to the east, which holds 1200 gold. Now enter the door and claim the 水のリング: Water Ring. We're all done here, so cast リレミト: Evac, and then teleport back to Salabona. ---------------------- Walkthrough incomplete ---------------------- ---------------------- Walkthrough incomplete ---------------------- =============================================================================== III.
