Introduction --------------- Why am I making a guide for a game for the SNES? Well, besides the fact that it?s a really good game, I just recently rediscovered this game. I spent hours of my childhood just playing this game, only to be beaten every time on the very last stage until I finally figured out how to beat it. Darius Twins is one of those simple games that don?t get lost in the plot or the graphics. It?s just pure game play and while at times, it can get repetitive, it?s varied enough and quirky enough to allow you to continue to get lost in its atmosphere. ------------------- 1a. Version History ------------------- Version 1.0 (6/29/05): Completed the guide. ------------ 2. Controls ------------ Control Pad: Moves the ship up and down Start: Pauses the game Y: Shoot primary weapon B: Shoot secondary weapon If you hold these buttons down, you can get a continuous fire. ------------- 3. Your Ship ------------- At the start of the game, your ship can only take one hit before it dies and has relatively weak weapons. However, as you improve the shields and weapons on your ship, you can become a fierce fish killing machine. To get power ups, you must destroy all six floating cubes when they appear on the screen. The very last cube you destroy will drop the power up. ------------------- 3a. Primary Weapons ------------------- Your ship starts off with a weak laser. However, as you pick up power ups, you can equip your ship with powerful (i.e. really weak) energy discs or powerful (i.e. really powerful) energy crescents. Your primary weapon becomes more powerful by finding the Red Square power ups. You have two options for your primary weapon and can change them by finding the Red Octagon power ups. Energy Discs: Starting weapon: A weak yellow missile Upgrade 1: A stronger, wider yellow missile Upgrade 2: Two stronger, wider yellow missiles Upgrade 3: A small energy disc Upgrade 4: Two small energy discs Upgrade 5: Three small energy discs Upgrade 6: A bigger energy disc Upgrade 7: An even bigger energy disc Upgrade 8: The biggest energy disc possible Energy Crescents: Starting weapon: A weak yellow missile Upgrade 1: A longer blue laser Upgrade 2: A slightly wider blue laser Upgrade 3: A slightly longer yellow laser Upgrade 4: A slightly longer and rounder yellow laser that pierces enemies Upgrade 5: A small energy crescent that pierces enemies Upgrade 6: A bigger energy crescent that pierces enemies Upgrade 7: An even bigger and wider energy crescent that pierces enemies Upgrade 8: The biggest energy crescent possible that pierces enemies The pierce function alone is enough to pick the crescents. However, the crescents are also stronger than the discs. Add in the fact that the crescents look cooler and there?s really no reason why you should go with the energy discs. --------------------- 3b. Secondary Weapons --------------------- Your secondary weapon starts off as just a singular bomb that drops out in front of you. However, it can become upgraded to a weapon that can attack in four different directions. You can power up your secondary weapons by grabbing the green power ups. Starting weapon: A bomb that curves diagonally downwards Upgrade 1: Two bombs that curve in the front diagonal directions Upgrade 2: Four bombs that curve in all four diagonal directions Upgrade 3: Two lasers that shoot in the front diagonal directions and two bombs that curve in the diagonal directions behind Upgrade 4: Four lasers that shoot in all four diagonal directions Upgrade 5: Four wider lasers that shoot in all four diagonal directions that pierce enemies Upgrade 6: Four double lasers that shoot in all four diagonal directions that pierce enemies Upgrade 7: Four energy discs that shoot in all four diagonal directions that pierce enemies Upgrade 8: Four even bigger energy discs that shoot in all four diagonal directions that pierce enemies ----------- 3c. Shields ----------- Without a shield, you can only stand one hit. However, with a shield, you can take multiple hits. The shield has three energy levels. Also, the shield has three stages, depending on how many hits you have taken. As you take more hits, your shield becomes less wide and looks more worn out. The three energy levels of the shield are blue, silver, and gold, with gold being the best. It takes four shield power ups to upgrade to silver and nine shield power ups to upgrade to gold. ------------------- 3d. Other Power Ups ------------------- There are two other power ups in the game. The orange power ups are extra lives. There are just two of these in the entire game. The yellow power up is a bomb. It destroys almost every enemy on screen. However, it doesn?t kill mini bosses. It does, however, damage them a lot. ------ 4. Map ------ You cannot play every stage in one time through. There will be times in which you must choose which way you want to go. Here is the map of the stage select screen: G B E J A D H L C F K I A ? Orga B ? Danto C ? Koloba D ? Lankus E ? Padi F ? Rear G ? Narukini H ? Sabia I ? Karudo J ? Noemu K ? Horolain L ? Darius ---------------------- 5. Stage Walkthroughs ---------------------- These stage walkthroughs are designed to tell you how the stage moves and the quirks of the stage, which enemies are on the stage, what mini bosses are on each stage, what power ups can be obtained on the stage, and how to defeat the final boss. A quick note on the power ups: Some power ups appear at random, meaning that they could either show up or not show up at all. -------- 5a. Orga -------- Stage Description: This is your basic side scrolling stage with a blue sky and the ground underneath you. Hitting the ground with your ship will either damage your shields or kill you if you don?t have a shield. Enemies: Mini Blue Ships, Cubes, Green Tanks, Blue Turrets, Mini Red Ships, Mini Red Tanks, Mini Jets, Ground Tank Power Up Count: Two red, three green, and two blue Mini Boss: Angel Fish End Boss: Code No HH02 ? Killer Higia Description: This fish is just a big bass. Flight Pattern: Follows your ship around and centers its mouth on you. Attacks: Shoots out three bug things from its mouth, then six missiles from its mouth, then three more missiles from its mouth, then six more bug things from its mouth, then charges forward and fires two homing rockets from its sides, then rapidly fires three sets of three missiles also from it?s mouth, then repeats it?s pattern. How to Defeat: Just stay all the way back towards the left edge of the screen and continuously shoot at its mouth. The only thing you have to dodge is the first set of three bugs. Everything else will either miss you or you?ll destroy before it even reaches you. Since the bugs aren?t destroyable and the first set of three sends a bug right down the middle, you have to move to avoid it. However, the second set of bugs doesn?t send any towards the middle. For the homing rockets, you can either use your secondary weapons to destroy them. However, if you stay back towards the left edge, they should fly off the screen and disappear. Just keep shooting at its mouth and it should die around the second repeat cycle. --------- 5b. Danto --------- Stage Description: This side scrolling level is in space and there is no ground or objects to avoid, other than the enemies. Also, it looks exactly like Koloba with the exact same end boss. The only difference is when the enemies appear and what power ups show up. Enemies: Mini Blue Ships, Green Tanks, Cubes, Mini Jack Ships, Mini Green Ships Splitting Missiles, Big Green Ships, Mini Jets, Big Jets Power Up Count: One red, one green, one random yellow Mini Boss: Tiger Shark End Bosses: Code No EP30 ? Emperor Fossil Code No QU10 ? Queen Fossil Description: The Emperor Fossil is a giant green fish with goggles. The Queen Fossil is a giant purple fish with goggles also. Flight Pattern: Each one moves up and down. When one is up, the other is down. Each one also takes turns being out in front. Attacks: Emperor Fossil attacks with a large single beam. Queen Fossil attacks with a spray of smaller beams. The one out in front is the one that attacks. How to Defeat: Shoot at their mouths when they open them. The only time one opens its mouth is when it?s attacking. Attack one while it has its mouth open and then move on to the other one when the first one closes its mouth. Kill the Queen Fossil first. The Queen Fossil will leave her mouth open the entire time she is attacking when the Emperor Fossil is with her, just like the Emperor Fossil. However, if you kill the Emperor Fossil first, the Queen Fossil will open and close her mouth really fast, making it harder to destroy but it doesn?t lessen how many beams are on the screen. The Emperor Fossil on his own just leaves his mouth open. This is the only battle with two bosses at once. ---------- 5c. Koloba ---------- Stage Description: This side scrolling level is in space and there is no ground or objects to avoid, other than the enemies. Also, it looks exactly like Danto with the exact same end boss. The only difference is when the enemies appear and what power ups show up. Enemies: Mini Blue Ships, Green Tanks, Cubes, Mini Jack Ships, Mini Green Ships, Mini Jets, Splitting Missiles, Big Green Ships, Big Jets Power Up Count: Two random red, one green, one blue Mini Boss: Tiger Shark End Bosses: Code No EP30 ? ---------- 5d. Lankus ---------- Stage Description: This level is not really a side scrolling level and has a floor and a ceiling. Also, random floating blocks can be in the way that you have to go around. The ground and ceiling move to make the stage look like it is not side scrolling. Either way, you have to avoid the ceiling and the ground, especially when they?re moving towards you. Enemies: Cubes, Mini Blue Ships, Mini Red Tanks, Ceiling Bombs, Purple Bombs, Mini Green Ships, Red Birds, Ground Missiles Power Up Count: Four green, three blue, and one red octagon Mini Boss: None End Boss: Code No BD4Z ? Demon Sword Description: A giant squid that would make a lot of tasty dried squid...if it wasn?t a giant mechanical thing that is. Flight Pattern: Pretty much stays in one spot until it starts spraying out bullets, in which case it flies around in a small circle. Attacks: Shoots out one of its two main tentacles. Once it pulls back in its tentacle, it shoots bullet sprays. If you destroy both of its main tentacles, it will shoot continuous bullet sprays. How to Defeat: Aim for its eyes. Only destroy one tentacle, preferably the one closest to you. If you just destroy that one, you?ll expose its weak point, his eyes. If you destroy both of them, the giant squid will continuous move and shoot bullet sprays, which are harder to dodge than its one tentacle shot. -------- 5e. Padi -------- Stage Description: This stage has green ground on a blue background. It looks like you?re fighting in the mountains. The ground, as usual causes damage to your ship. The ground is very jagged and has many peaks and valleys. The only difference between this and Rear are the power ups, enemy placement, and the background. The boss is almost the same, just a different color Enemies: Mini Jets, Cubes, Big Green Turrets, Rolling Turrets, Mini Blue Jellyfish, Ground Tank, Big Blue Jellyfish, Mini Red Ships, Mini Jack Ships Power Up Count: Two red, five blue, three green, one orange, one yellow Mini Boss: Blue Whale End Boss: Code No OON1 ? Duel Shears SP Description: It?s a giant red lobster. Flight Pattern: Flies in a very small circular motion and charges forward every once in a while. Attacks: Shoots lasers from its eyes and bullet sprays from its claws. It will shoot out its claws at you and they will spin around the stage until you destroy them. After the claws are destroyed, it will just continue to shoot out eye lasers and bullet sprays and will now charge forward at you. How to Defeat: Its weak point is its eyes. Avoid the lasers and bullet sprays and just concentrate on the eyes. When it shoots out its claws at you, use your primary weapon to concentrate on the eyes and your secondary weapons to concentrate on the claws. It will stop shooting at you while its claws are off. Once the claws reattach themselves or are destroyed, it will continue its shooting barrage. When the claws are gone, it will add a new attack to its arsenal: charging at you. A really cheap way to destroy this boss is to destroy its claws and then just to hang out on the top of the screen and let your secondary weapon destroy it. It can?t hit you with its weapons or charge at you. Once the lobster has started to lose pieces of its armor, you know it is about ready to die. -------- 5f. Rear -------- Stage Description: This stage has green ground on a gray background. It looks like you?re fighting in the mountains. The ground, as usual causes damage to your ship. The ground is very jagged and has many peaks and valleys. The only difference between this and Padi are the power ups, enemy placement, and the background. The boss is almost the same, just a different color. Enemies: Mini Red Ships, Mini Blue Jellyfish, Blue Turrets, Cubes, Big Red Tanks, Rolling Turrets, Big Green Turrets, Big Blue Jellyfish, Back Missiles, Mini Red Tanks Power Up Count: One red, one random red, three blue, two green, one orange Mini Boss: Blue Whale End Boss: Code No OON1 ? Duel Shears SP Description: It?s a giant silver lobster. ------------ 5g. Narukini ------------ Stage Description: This level takes place in a really red hazy area. The background is red clouds and there is no ground or objects to avoid. The only difference between this and Karudo is the background, placement of enemies, and power ups. Enemies: Big Blue Ships, Mini Blue Jellyfish, Cubes Splitting Missiles, Blue Jets, Mini Green Ships, Mini Red Ships, Green Tanks, Mini Blue Ships, Mini Jets, Back Missiles Power Up Count: One red, one green, three blue Mini Boss: Giant Crab End Boss: Code No ZZ1O ? Dark Coronatus Description: It?s a silver seahorse with a long tail Flight Pattern: Flies in a circular motion. Attacks: First, it shoots out three sets of three orbs, one set straight, one set downward, and the last set straight. Then it shoots out a three sets of bullet sprays, five bullets, then four bullets, and then five bullets again. Then it opens up its chest and shoots out mini seahorses. How to Defeat: Its only weak spot is when it opens up its chest to shoot you with the mini seahorses. Avoid the orbs and the bullets and then line up your shot on the seahorse?s chest. Your primary weapon should be wide enough and powerful enough to destroy whatever comes out of his chest and penetrate to damage it. After a while of doing this, the seahorse should fall. You can also just get under it and behind it in the bottom right hand corner. Even though that tail moves around a lot, it shouldn?t reach you. Also, its attacks can?t hit you while you?re in the bottom right hand corner. Whenever it opens up its chest, you can line your secondary weapon to attack the opening. Your secondary weapon right now should be piercing also. --------- 5h. Sabia --------- Stage Description: It looks like you?re underwater. The ground has many ups and downs in it and look like the ocean floor. The background is blue and wavy and hazy. It is definitely a unique looking stage. Enemies: Mini Red Ships, Cubes, Big Green Turrets, Splitting Missiles, Mini Jets, Mini Green Ships, Blue Jets, Mini Jack Ships, Bomb Volcanoes, Back Missiles, Big Green Ships Power Up Count: Two red, two green, five blue Mini Boss: Giant Crab End Boss: Code No ASP7 ? Red Mist Description: It?s a giant red and silver snail with a tentacle coming out of its mouth and it looks like its riding on a huge red platform. Flight Pattern: It flies in a circular motion and is pretty fast for a snail. Attacks: First, it shoots out huge energy discs from its shell while whipping around its tentacle. Once you destroy its tentacle, it will continue to shoot huge energy discs from its shell while releasing orbs that zigzag and explode into four more orbs. How to Defeat: After you destroy its tentacle, its weak point becomes its shell. When the shell opens up to release the energy discs, attack the opening. The opening is very small, so make your shots count. Also, make sure to dodge everything. There?s a lot of activity going on, so focus on dodging first and shooting the opening second. ---------- 5i. Karudo ---------- Stage Description: This level takes place in a really blue hazy area. The background is blue clouds and there is no ground or objects to avoid. The only difference between this and Narukini is the background, placement of enemies, and power ups. Enemies: Cubes, Ground Missiles, Mini Blue Jellyfish, Splitting Missiles, Mini Jack Ships, Blue Jets, Purple Bombs, Mini Green Ships, Big Jets, Back Missiles, Mini Jets Power Up Count: Two red, two blue, one yellow Mini Boss: Giant Crab End Boss: Code No ZZ1O ? --------- 5j. Noemu --------- Stage Description: The background is black and the stage is scrolling downwards. There is no floor or ceiling, but there are a lot of floating objects you have to avoid. Enemies: Red Birds, Mini Jets, Ground Missiles, Cubes, Mini Jack Ships, Big Blue Jellyfish, Mini Blue Ships Power Up Count: Two random red, three blue, one orange, one yellow, and one red octagon Mini Boss: None End Boss: Code No MX04 ? Full Metalshell Description: It is a turtle...a really weak looking turtle. Flight Pattern: Makes a huge circle that covers most of the screen. Attacks: First it shoots out mini turtle torpedoes from its shell and its belly four times for eight mini turtles. Then it stretches out its neck and shoots six lasers, three up and three down, out of its neck. Finally, it shoots out three bullet sprays and repeats the process all over again. How to Defeat: Its weak point is its head. However, it is hard to hit because of the fact that he moves around a lot and his head stretches out. An easy way to defeat him is hanging out in the upper right hand corner and just letting your secondary weapon take him out. He shouldn?t be able to touch you and you should beat him. Otherwise, just be good at dodging his attacks. ------------ 5k. Horolain ------------ Stage Description: This stage goes upwards with floating objects are in your way. You have to navigate around them. The background is pretty much black. Enemies: Mini Blue Ships, Big Green Ships, Ground Missiles, Cubes, Splitting Missiles, Mini Jets, Mini Green Ships Mini Jack Ships, Big Red Tanks Power Up Count: Three blue, one green, one orange, one yellow, one red octagon Mini Boss: None End Boss: Code No GG0D ? Hyper Greatthing Description: It?s a big whale. It?s a really big whale. It?s a Captain Ahab sized whale. It?s blue though, not white. Flight Pattern: Well, it floats up and down. It doesn?t fly around you. You fly around it. Attacks: God... At the front, it shoots out horn missiles, twin lasers, hooks, mini fish missiles and multiple bullet shots. Underneath, it shoots out homing hooks and bullets. Above it, it has multiple gun turrets that shoot bullets and another homing hook gun. That is a lot of guns. How to Defeat: The good news is that every part of this boss is vulnerable. Attack the front with your primary weapon while dodging everything it throws at you. When under and above it, use your secondary weapon to damage it. You shouldn?t have to make more than two rotations to defeat it, considering that you can dodge everything. The front of the whale is the hardest part to dodge. The rest is actually really simple to dodge and shoot. ---------- 5l. Darius ---------- Stage Description: This is where all the mini bosses hang out during their coffee breaks. The stage is just full of mini bosses as regular enemies. The background is outer space with stars going really fast. Be prepared for A LOT of mini bosses. Enemies: Angel Fish, Tiger Shark, Blue Whale, Giant Crab, Back Missiles Power Up Count: None Mini Boss: Multiple counts of all the mini bosses. End Boss: Code No LC40 ? Super Alloylantern Description: You thought the Hyper Greatthing was big? This thing has got that thing beat. It?s a big lantern fish. Flight Pattern: Another fish that you go around. It floats up and down when you stop moving. Attacks: It shoots bullet sprays from its lantern and energy discs from its mouth. There are multiple bullet turrets on top of the fish. It has a big turret on the bottom that shoots out bullet sprays. It also sends out multiple fish missiles out at you, five at a time. When you get to the mouth a second time, it will shoot giant fish out of its mouth along with bullets from its turret. How to Defeat: Take out its lantern first. Then you get to go around the fish. Unlike the Hyper Greatthing, this fish isn?t vulnerable everywhere. Avoid the bullets on top and when you go around to the bottom, aim for the turret spraying bullets. Take that out to stop the bullets. Now concentrate on destroying the fish missiles. Once you get back to the mouth, aim for the mouth. You should destroy whatever comes out of its mouth. The bullet turret shouldn?t be too much of a problem. Real End Boss: Code No FH10 ? Great Tusk Description: It?s a walrus living inside of a giant fish. Something?s not right here in Wonderland. Flight Pattern: Doesn?t fly. It waddles along the ground, moving back and forth. Attacks: It shoots out six orbs, three from its chest and three from its back that are destroyable. When it starts moving backwards, it release orbs that spray bullets everywhere. How to Defeat: Just shoot its head. You should destroy most of the orbs that come at you. Once it starts moving backwards, it becomes harder as the orbs released can?t be destroyed and they spray bullets everywhere at random. Just continue to aim for its head and it should be destroyed before it even thinks about moving forward again. ---------- 6. Enemies ---------- It is your ship against an entire army. There are a lot of enemies in this game. Each one has their unique flight pattern and their unique attacks. Mini bosses are bigger enemies than the regular ones. They take a lot more hits to destroy and tend to have more devastating attacks. They also don?t go away until you destroy them. ------------------- 6a. Regular Enemies ------------------- Cubes ----- Stages in: All stages except L ? Darius Flight Pattern: Six come out at once, three up and three down. After they get close to the end of the stage, they converge on the center and head back towards the front of the screen. Starting in stages G, H, and I, these can come from behind. Special Thanks ----------------- CJayC: For making GameFAQs. I normally don?t thank him in my FAQs because I forget to, but he made a wonderful place to get FAQs. ------- 9. FAQs ------- Q. Which should I use, discs or crescents, and what?s the difference? A. You should always use the energy crescents whenever you can. The crescents are stronger and they have the ability to pierce enemies. Even the biggest and strongest energy disc cannot pierce. Q. How do you beat the last level? It?s so hard! A. Pray? In all honesty, you need to have a fully powered up primary and secondary weapon, along with a gold shield and all five of your lives. Even then, it is going to be really rough as everything takes so long to die and there is a lot going on at once. It?s hard to keep up with everything. But once you get past the stage, the boss is really amazingly easy. ------------------------------------ 10.
