It is made for all of those emails that say it is hard to navigate through my walkthrough to find the bosses. Version 1.8 (1/23/03) - Final revisions today. Read over the whole FAQ. Final additions/updates in. Time for submission! Version 1.7 (1/17/03) - Haven't updated the walkthrough in almost two weeks. I'm sick today, so I'm hoping to get it done either today or tommorow. Once I finish the final stage, it will be up for revisions and sent to CJayC. Version 1.6 (1/5/03) - Finally at the last stage! I'm adding a list of enemies, bosses, and an introduction for every level. Version 1.5 (1/5/03) - I've made a new format for the bosses now. Now they look like they are on a cue card! Still working on the walkthrough. All other sections are complete. Version 1.4 (1/1-2/03) - Well, Happy New Years to all. I've done tons of changes today. I've completely redesigned the enemies list, added the FAQ, My Review, Endings, Contra is..., and added weapon ratings, and names for every level. I've been trying to get the walkthrough over 108K so it has a better chance of getting posted against Yakuza. I think I'm at about 40K now. Version 1.3 (12/31/02) - I started the Walkthrough today. Finished stage one. I should get done a lot today and tommorow being the last days of my time off from school. I also added the Game and PAR Codes, Contact Info, and Copyrights. Version 1.2 (12/30/02) - Starting the weapons list today. Should get it finished today...I hope. Version 1.1 (12/28-29/02) - Well I haven't updated the FAQ in a while so I took the time to complete the full list of enemies, and we'll see what else I get done. Version 1.0 (12/23/02) - Document started sections 1, 2, and 3 added. ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 3. Introduction |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., Well, this is my FAQ (obviously) :). I already wrote a Boss FAQ for this game. So I decided to try to write my first full FAQ on this game. It will include reviews, codes, weapons lists, enemy lists, bosses, and a complete step-by-step walkthrough of the entire game. This is my first complete walkthrough so it may not be the best! I consider myself a master at Contra III so this guide should help you out with any problems you might have. Enemies |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., I have set up a list of enemies below in a table. Then after the table I have a description and strategy for defeating all of them. I named these enemies based on how they look so you can easily identify them. Bosses aren't included in this section. They are found in the walkthrough section. I have also placed all of them into three catagories based on how they attack. An enemy can either be Offensive, Trap, Obsacle, Aid, or Offensive/Defensive. Offensive - Attacks you by either shooting or running towards you. Trap - Something that doesn't move or attack but can reveal traps. Obstacle - It will move around usually in a set path. Sometimes you can kill it others you can't, but you must avoid it. Offensive/Defensive - Enemies that have a shield, open it up and shoot; enemies tat hide behind something then shoot. Aid - Killing it will give you a weapon or help you in some way. __________________________________________ | Red soldier Spawners | | Blue soldier Flying Aliens | | Red sniper Flying Morters | | Blue Mortor Black Aliens | | Lava balls Red alien snake | | Weapon carrier Alien Ant | | Alien Snake Red alien ant | | Armored alien Imp | | Gold Alien Mouth | | Rolling Alien Spikes | | Birds Dogs | | Batmen Mines | | Scorpions Unmanned Guns | | Blue Snipers | |__________________________________________| ----------- Red soldier ----------- Found in: level 1, 4 Description: Red in color. Flies in jetpack(level 4) Attacks: In the first level, this enemy will just walk around and when they stop walking they will shoot a single bullet. Depending on what skill level you have it on they're bullets will shoot at different speeds. On the fourth level they will have a jetpack and again shoot at you a single bullet. Strategy: Just hit them with any type of weapon. Make sure to jump over their bullets. Type of Enemy: Offensive ------------ Blue soldier ------------ Found in: level 1 Description: Just like a red soldier except blue in color. Attacks: This guy is very simple. He will just run back and forth. They don't shoot anything at you, but if you run into them you will get a hit against you. Strategy: Again just shoot it and if you can't just jump over it. Type of Enemy: Offensive ---------- Red sniper ---------- Found in: level 1, 3 Description: A red soldier that stands at a high elevation and shoot a single bullet at you. They are usually placed in areas that are highly populated with other enemies so focus on hitting them first unless you must shoot at the bottom level. I find it hard to see they're shots and I have lost a lot of lives because of blind shots from them. Attacks: They will usually stand on a high elevation and shoot a single shot at you at a time. Depending on the skill setting you have it on they will shoot faster. Strategy: Since they are usually in high elevations focus on hitting them first. You must keep moving around though. Type of Enemy: Offensive ----------- Blue Mortor ----------- Found in: level 1, 3 Description: These enemies are blue soldiers also usually on higher elevations like red snipers. Attacks: They will throw a grenade high in the air, like a mortor would, aiming at you. Strategy: You don't have to kill these guys first like you would a red sniper. This is because they don't have as good aim and if you keep moving it is unlikely they will hit you. Type of Enemy: Offensive ---------- Lava Balls ---------- Found in: level 1 Description: These aren't really enemies. They don't move towards you they don't attack you, but you can get hurt by them, and kill them so I will put them up. When the ground catches on fire in the first level, these will periodically burst out of the fire. Attacks: They come in and out of the fire. They don't have any other attack. Strategy: You can kill them by hitting them with any weapon. I suggest hitting them because they are worth a lot of points and I usually get an extra life after killing them. Type of Enemy: Obstacle -------------- Weapon carrier -------------- Found in: level 1, 3, 4, 6 Description: When you shoot these they will turn into a weapon, shield, or bomb. THEY CANNOT HURT YOU. If you have a weapon you like and you are about to make contact with them, you think to shoot them. If then you pick up their weapon by mistake, you loose your favorite weapon. You can touch these. They do not hurt you or pose any threat. But if you can I still recommend killing them for the points. Attacks: none Strategy: Just shoot them. They don't pose a threat so if you can't, don't sweat it. Type of Enemy: Aid ----------- Alien Snake ----------- Found in: level 2 Description: These snakes are only found in the second level and are easy points for you. They are made up of four parts. Attacks: On easy mode they will not shoot at you. But on normal and hard these guys shoot bullets at you and get harder to kill. They do move slow when trying to turn though. Strategy: You can shoot any part of their body to count as a hit. Moving in a circle around them will cause them to be confused and move slower than they would in a straight line. Type of Enemy: Offensive -------------- Armored Aliens -------------- Found in: level 2 Description: These are basically stationary red soldiers with a kicked up gun and sheild. Attacks: It will come out of an inpenetrable sheild and shoot rapid bullets at you. They don't all shoot the same pattern of bullets so be aware. Strategy: There are usually things to hide behind when they are shooting and I suggest you stay behind them when they are shooting. You will have a split second to shoot at them just before they shoot and also before they hide in their shields. If you are on easy mode, their bullets shouldn't be a threat to you at all so don't worry about it. Type of Enemy: Offensive/Defensive ---------- Gold Alien ---------- Found in: level 2 Description: These are pretty much the same as blue soldiers except with a gold covering. Attacks: They don't shoot at you but they are numerous. Just like blue soldiers, they walk towards you and will follow you if you don't kill them. Strategy: If there is a lot of these and you don't think you can handle them all. Using both weapons at a time is very helpful. Just hold L and R and press the shoot button. Type of Enemy: Offensive ------------- Rolling Alien ------------- Found in: level 3 Description: They will roll towards you in an inpenetrable sheild. You can't kill it when it is rolling but when it opens up it will. They are a lot like a red solier except they have a shield and there is no similar physical features. Attacks: Just like a red soldier they will shoot a single bullet at you at a time. Then they will roll towards you. Don't let them hit you though. Strategy: Just shoot it when it opens up its sheild. You shouldn't get hit by its bullets if you have two working hands. Type of Enemy: Offensive/Defensive ----- Birds ----- Found in: level 3 Description: These enemies just chime in towards the middle of level three for a few seconds. When you are hanging from the pole system, these will fly from above at you. They don't really look like birds, but that probably the best word for them. Attacks: They won't shoot you but will pick you up with their legs and try and fly away with you. If you touch them, it won't count as a hit, luckily. Strategy: Shoot at them before they pick you up. If they do pick you up, all hope is not lost! Aim straight up and shoot. Type of Enemy: Offensive ------ Batmen ------ Found in: level 3 Description: Just like birds, these are very few but can be a nuisence. They will come out of the top of the alien ship mini-boss in level three and also in the fortress at the end of the level. These guys can jump, and if you don't kill them they won't hesitate to follow you. Attacks: They don't shoot at you but move quickly and in strange patterns. They can jump high so they may follow you for a little while if you don't kill them. Strategy: These are only really easy to kill with a heat-seaker because the only places they appear are in weird situations, making it hard to get a good shot off at them. Just make sure they don't land on you. Then worry about kiling them. Type of Enemy: Offensive ------------- Flying Aliens ------------- Found in: level 4 Description: Flying aliens are absoulutely no threat to you...if you stay at the far left side of the screen. In the beginning of level four, they will basically just fly above you. This is a great opporitunity to get extra lives by killing all of these enemies. Attacks: They will shoot a line of bullets at you. Strategy: The way to disable these guys is to stay at the far left of your screen and hold R and shoot at them. If you stay there they can't hit you. Type of Enemy: Offensive -------------- Flying Mortors -------------- Found in: level 4 Description: These are just like the flying aliens except they do pose a threat to you. They look exactly like flying aliens, but they throw grenades at you. Attacks: They will throw a morter at you and the flames carry on until you jump over it. Strategy: If you don't kill them before they throw the grenade, you will have to jump over the flames of the grenade, since you are moving. Type of Enemy: Offensive ------------ Black aliens ------------ Found in: level 4 Description: Black aliens are just red aliens with a jetpack and a black covering. They will shoot shots at you and are a little stronger and harder to kill. Attacks: It will shoot single shots at you like a regular red or blue alien. Again, depending on what skill level it is on, they will shoot at different speeds. Strategy: Just regular shooting for this guy. He's stronger than red or blue aliens though so it may take a while. Type of Enemy: Offensive --------------- Red Alien Snake --------------- Found in: level 5 Description: These are just like the alien snakes in level two. The only difference is after you kill the connected form, it's sections will break off and form four separate smaller snakes. These will then shoot a fireball at you. They will die for good after a few shots. Attacks: The first form will just run towards you. Once it breaks into four separate sections, they will each shoot fireballs at you. Strategy: Have a rapid fire weapon equipped or a Crash Missle. Move around after it breaks itself up, and shoot. Type of Enemy: Offensive ---------- Alien Ants ---------- Found in: level 5 Description: Alien ants serve as the blue aliens in level one. They just walk around. But instead of just keeping on walking if you jump avoid them, they will continue to follow you until they get killed. Attacks: Basically, their only attack is to run into you. Strategy: Just shoot. Try and lead them into circular pools. If they are in one long enough they will die. Type of Enemy: Offensive -------------- Red Alien Ants -------------- Found in: level 5 Description: These red ants serve as red aliens. They are just like regular alien ants, but they will shoot a single fireball at you. Attacks: It will shoot a single fireball at you. Strategy: Move around to avoid it's fireballs and shoot at it. Also try and lure this one into circular pools to get rid of them. Type of Enemy: Offensive --- Imp --- Found in: level 6 Description: These are just red imps that will walk around throughout the last level. Don't underestimate them though. They walk at a high speed and can jump pretty high. They aren't hard to kill but will probably give you problems throughout the level. Attacks: Just walking toward you and jumping at you. Strategy: Don't try jumping over them because there will be another where you are landing. I suggest just plain shooting them. They are smarter than you thing and fast. Type of Enemy: Offensive ----- Mouth ----- Found in: level 6 Description: These guys will probably cause you a great deal of frustration. Not only do they look ugly but they will shoot three spikes out which are attracted to you. They will go down, but make sure you get the spikes too. Attacks: They don't really attack you but they do spit out three spikes out of it mouth and they are attracted to you. Strategy: Stand on an angle. Not staight up or down. This will give you time to respond to spikes it spits out. Once you take out the mouth, make sure you get the spikes. Type of Enemy: Offensive/Defensive ------ Spikes ------ Found in: level 6 Description: These are what the mouths will shoot out at you. They are attracted to you and if you touch them it will count as a hit. Attacks: They don't shoot you, but are attracted to you. Strategy: Just move around, don't let them make contact to you. They should go out pretty easily. Type of Enemy: Offensive ---- Dogs ---- Found in: level 1 Description: Just what you need. When its heavily populated you've got a dog you have to jump over. Its true, they do put these dogs in the worst places and they are a nuisence. Attacks: They just run by and try to bite you I guess. Strategy: I recommend shooting these dogs. They are worth tons of points. If you have a clear shot, I suggest you take it. You will usually get an extra life if you kill them. Type of Enemy: Offensive ----- Mines ----- Found in: level 2 Description: They are red dots in the center surrounded by a green covering. When you walk over them, nothing will happen. But a few seconds later they will explode. Attacks: Exploding upon stepping on it. Strategy: Well, basically, just make sure you aren't near them after you step on them. Type of Enemy: Trap ------------- Unmanned Guns ------------- Found in: level 1 Description: They just surprise you by shooting out of the ground when you are not expecting it. There is no one firing them but they do shoot at you. Attacks: Shoots double shots at you. Strategy: You can't hit it while standing up. You must be either shooting from an angle or laying on the ground. Type of Enemy: Offensive ------------ Blue Snipers ------------ Found in: level 1, 3 Description: Also just like red snipers except just blue. They stand at high elevations and are very harmful if not taken car of immediately. Attacks: Shoots single bullets at you from a high elevation. Strategy: Kill these first if you can. They will cause you lots of trouble if you don't Type of enemy: Offensive ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 7. Weapons |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., --------------------- Machine Gun - no sign --------------------- Description: Your default weapon, given to you after injuries/start of game. Why it's good: It is a rapid fire weapon. It will continuously shoot fast rounds of bullets, and there is no pauses in between rounds. I like this weapon the best on bosses that spawn enemies. Such as the mini boss in stage three. Why it's bad: It isn't very powerful. No wonder it's your default weapon. Overall Rating: 8/10 ----------- Laser - (L) ----------- Description: Shoots an extremely powerful laser. Why it's good: It is probably the most powerful weapon in the game. It is great for boss fights because it quickly drains an enemies health. Why it's bad: Like always the best weapon has to have some flaw. This one is it has a long time in between every shot on the laser. But this doesn't apply on birds eye view levels though. It will shoot a continuous laser then. Overall Rating: 9/10 ------------------- Flame Thrower - (F) ------------------- Description: Shoots wall of flames. Why it is good: It is a pretty powerful weapon and shoots continuosly. Why it is bad: There really isn't anything bad about this gun besides it isn't that powerful and has a small range. Overall Rating: 8/10 ------------- Shotgun - (S) ------------- Description: Scatters bullets like a shotgun. Why it's good: It is great for clearing rooms full of enemies and enemies at multiple elevations. Why it's bad: It has a slow firing rate and is not very powerful on bosses. Overall Rating: 7/10 ----------------- Heat Seaker - (H) ----------------- Description: Heat-seaking missles. Why it's good: It is attracted to enemies. Good for tight situations and packed rooms. It is probably my favorite weapon and I try to keep one throughout the game. Why its bad: ...It isn't. Overall Rating: 10/10 ---------------- Crash Bomb - (C) ---------------- Description: Shoots rockets that explode on impact. Why it's good: Its extremely powerful and explodes near enemy so maybe even hitting nearby enemies. Why it's bad: Slow rate of fire. Overall Rating: 8/10 ------------- Bomb - (bomb) ------------- Description: Clears screen of all minor enemies. Why it's good: Well, it clears the room. Powerful on bosses. Why it's bad: Works relatively slowly and causes slow motion. Overall Rating: 8/10 ---------- Sheild - B ---------- Description: Forms a temporary sheild around you. It will give you invincibility and if enemies touch it they loose energy. Why it's good: Let's see, it gives you a sheild! That means no one will hit you. A few rounds of free roaming. Why it's bad: What the hell could be bad about a sheild? Overall Rating: 10/10 ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 8. How to get good at Contra |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., I find Contra III to be an extremely contagious game and is very fun to play. The first time someone plays a Contra game, they will most likely get killed on the first level. Then they continue to get better and better. This is for one reason. They develop their own strategies. In Contra III, there is no way to save a game nor is there a code system where you get a code after beating a level, thus you have to play every level every time you shut off your console or reset it. As you play the game more and more you get better and better at it. No, not because you get better at controlling your character, but because you play every level over and over, and eventually form strategies. That's why it is so easy to write FAQ's for this game! So if you have trouble with a level, do it over to find out what you are doing wrong, or until you can get through the level without getting hit. Your skill will build and you will find yourself breezing through levels! ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 9. Boss FAQ |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., ------- Stage 1 ------- Stage 1 mini boss(1): The wall First shoot out the cannons, then just shoot at the wall and watch out for the red man at the top of the wall and blue men coming from the left of your screen. Stage 1 mini boss(2): The second wall You should have a tank for this, if you don't just use the strategy above. One close shot should take care of it. Stage 1 mini boss(3): Grenade Launching Tank This boss is very simple. Just have your best gun equiped and stand to the far left corner of the screen. Shoot at the base until it dies. If you don't kill him shortly after he starts moving away from you, you may have to adjust your position to avoid being hit by bombs. Stage 1 main boss: Alien Tortoise Start at the bottom and shoot its red heart. This is how to kill it. Watch out for stray bullets. Every once in a while it will shoot these flying things or slug looking things out of its shell. Just shoot at them and they will die. ------- Stage 2 ------- Stage 2 mini boss: Armored Aliens When you select your position, the armored aliens are the blinking objects on the map. There are 5 spread around the level. When their shell comes off shoot them, but watch out because some of them shoot very rapidly at you. It doesn't take much to kill them, but watch out for them shooting bullets at you. Stage 2 main boss: Alien Spider First, aim for his circular disks coming out from each of his six arms. After this, take out his main gun. He will then do an attack where he floats up and then slams down to the ground. Just keep moving once he starts doing this. Shoot his red dot in the center to kill him. ------- Stage 3 ------- Stage 3 mini boss(1): Spike Act 1 Let him pick you up on his wings, but watch out for the spike that comes out from atop him. When you are below him shoot up at him. Once he is dead he will start spinning very fast. Make sure to jump off of him before he is too low to the ground. After he falls below the screen, watch out for the missles he shoots. Stage 3 mini boss(2): Spike Act 2 Basically, just go up as he moves and avoid the missles. To avoid the missles easier, move up before he shoots them. They will move with your body. Once he is at the top he will take on yet another form. Avoid his drill attack by constantly moving up and down. When he is drilling at the wall he will reveal a red dot. Shoot it to destroy him. Stage 3 mini boss(3): Alien Ship Move as far as you can to one side when it is throwing grenades; when it is finished go under it and shoot the red dot revealed. Watch out for enemies jumping from atop the ship. I suggest using a scatter gun, heat-seaker, or your default gun. The others don't dispose of enemies from atop the ship as well as these do. Stage 3 main boss: Giant Aliens Act 1 This boss is two of your basic red and blue men, just a lot bigger, smarter, and harder to kill. You can hang from the ceiling so make sure to use this to your advantage. After you beat their first form, they will be just a head, rolling around. Shoot them a bit more and they will die. Stage 3 main boss: Giant Aliens Act 2 After you kill your two giant friends, a huge terminator robot will emerge from behind the wall. He has three main attacks and uses them in this order. First, he will shoot two lights from his eyes. They will move around the sreen trying to hit you and after a few seconds will die out. His second is to shoot a wall of flames out of his mouth in a circular pattern throughout the room. I suggest you either stand below him and keep shooting until the flames are close to you and then jump over, but if you are having trouble with this just climb the walls and ceiling to avoid it. His third attack is to throw a bunch of bombs into the room. When he does this run to the side that has less bomb and climb onto that wall. Then he will do his flame attack again and then the series of attacks will start over. Hit him in his mouth to kill him. I suggest using a rapid fire weapon, such as your default or a laser. ------- Stage 4 ------- Stage 4 mini boss: Tank Your on your bike and your riding behind a tank. Shoot at it anywhere. You can shoot the bombs it shoots of to make them explode earlier. Make sure to kill enemies on jet packs flying above the tank. If you don't dispose of them, they can become a great irritation. You can also jump off your bike to avoid shots from both the tank and flying enemies. Stage 4 mini boss: Alien Walking Stick This is an easy mini boss. Just position yourself to the far left of your screen. Hold down the R button so you don't move, and just continuously shoot at an up/right motion. Any missles that he shoots should be destroyed in you line of fire. Stage 4 mini boss: Alien Ariel Ninja Like a player from Castlevania this enemy will swing back and forth from something he shoots from his arm. Shoot at his body when he is swinging back and forth. He will switch sides so watch out for that. Also watch out for when he pulls himself up to your level he will throw something at you. Just jump to avoid it. Stage 4 main boss: Alien Ship This boss is different because your not on the ground. Your holding on to missles shooting from the left of your screen towards the ship. They won't help you at all though. First to take out the barrier protecting the ship you will notice two devices that project the barrier; one on top and one on the bottom. Shoot these out to destroy the barrier. Then once you've destroyed the barier, just shoot away at the giant red dot in the center. Keep as far to the left as you can though or you may get hit by one of the ships bombs. ------- Stage 5 ------- Stage 5 mini boss: Red Ant Hole This stage is similar to stage 2. It is an overhead view. There are 5 red ant hills scattered throughout the world and you have to shoot and kill them. They will shot a fireball at you if you don't kill them. Simple as that. Watch the red ants that come out of them breathe fire. Stage 5 main boss: Alien Rotton Fruit That is what it looks like. Doesn't it? Anyway, when you see something poking out of the side holes, shoot at it immediately. If you don't kill it start running because it will chase you for a certain amount of time. Every once in a while an eye will emerge from atop the fruit, this is its weak spot. Hit it here to destroy it. ------- Stage 6 ------- Stage 6 mini boss: Giant Centipede Don't be intimidated by the name or his looks, if you do it as I say he shouldn't be much of a problem. Stand at the lower level and constantly shoot at his mouth. Don't let go of the shoot button until he is dead. He will try and shoot giant slugs out of his mouth but that should be a problem if you are constantly shooting. Stage 6 mini boss: The Heart and... Scorpions??? There are four bud looking things on the floor and ceiling that spawn scorpions, take them out first and the scorpions they spawn. Then shoot at the heart. The heart has no known attack, but you can't touch it. Stage 6 mini boss: Alien Frog Don't be intimidated by this boss. He may look tough but if you know what you're doing, it is easy to beat him. First, he will ram you. Avoid this. When he retracts, he will open his weak spot up at his base. He will shott yellow things at the ceiling and avoid them when they fall. Immediately after he will shoot a yellow ray. Sometimes he will go underground. When he does this just run under him when he jumps up. Stage 6 mini boss: Silver Hawk Next, you'll run into a siver hawk. He will start out flying towards the wall and you. Position yourself either near the top or bottom of the screen when it is away from the wall, and then move away from your position quickly when he coes darting at you, then shoot his head when he backs off again. Do this a couple of times and he will start disappearing and reapering while swinging his tail. Use the same strategy as before. Stage 6 main boss: Overlord Okay, you have made it to the end. Done a certain way, he is a cinch. Okay, first comes the head and claws to each side of it. Immediately concentrate fire on the left claw (since you are automatically closer to it). If you do it fast enough, and have good weapons, you should be able to take it out before it unfurls and tries to hit you. Once the left claw is down, shoot the face, making sure to destroy both eyes, which can shoot tiny shots at you. Then go for the right claw, being sure to back off if necessary, since you now have plenty of safe room. Remember, you have to hit the end of the claw, not the claw body, to destroy it. Now, shoot the undefended brain, at the top of the head. Now, he is where a slow motion controller will come in handy. The brain will go to the center of the screen, and a series of balls will spin around it. When you shoot one, the brain will stop spinning, and will attack you using whatever attack method the ball you shot stood for. Though you may personally find you prefer another ball-method, the easiest to handle overall is the giant eye. Stand on the left or right hand side of the brain, and, if you have a slow motion controller, turn it on so you can time you shot to hit the giant eye. If you don't have a slow motion controller, just try to time it right manually. Two things about the giant eyeballs that the brain will attack with: one, they are easy to destory, and two, they are worth *LOTS* of points. It is possible to earn enough points during each round of eye attacks to earn another life. See a strategy here? If you have less than 5 lives left or so, *AND* are playing in the hard mode, you should stop and just keep building a good reserve of lives for the *next* challenge. If you are not playing in the hard mode, that isn't necessary, though it might be a good idea if you only have a couple of lives left, to earn a few extra just in case you screw up towards the end. Four or five rounds and the brain will go down. If you are playing in hard mode, now you get to face the real final boss, and fight for the right to see the real ending of the game. Upon jumping onto your helicoptor, you will begin to rise out of the cavern. But, unlike easy or normal mode, you won't just fly on out, you'll be attacked by a very pissed off brain, in a spiked metal suit, with two flailing arms. The strategy here is to KEEP MOVING. Go back and forth, from left to right, jumping up and firing at its eye in the center, all the while avoiding its arms. Occasionally, the brain will come up at you with the spikes on the top center of its body. Be ready to jump out of the way, and to retaliate afterward. ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 10. You are now in the mean streets of the world. But you are used to mean people. Not anymore. Mean with aliens. The aliens have come and destroyed this beautiful city. There are skyscrapers fallen in the background, and you also will run into a plane that will turn it into a burning mess. There are tons of different aliens in this level. At the end you will fight a giant tortoise, but that is no match for you. But don't get too excited. Everything will get a lot meaner. ,,,,,,, Enemies ,,,,,,, Red Soldier, Blue Soldier, Red Sniper, Blue Sniper, Blue Mortor, Lava Balls, Dogs, Unmanned Guns, Weapon Carrier :::::: Bosses :::::: The Wall, The Wall Pt. 2, Alien Tank, Alien Tortoise *********** Walkthrough *********** Welcome to Contra! This is how most of the levels will look from now on so get used to it. Start walking to the right and you will see a weapon carrier flying above. Shoot it down and it will give you a temporary sheild. Keep walking and shoot the car and it will explode. Continue walking and you should come to a series of ledges and overhangs. Kill all of the enemies on top of it then jump on top of it and go to the end of it. A weapon carrier will come by. This one is carrying a heat-seaker! Make sure to get it. This will make the game a lot easier. With the heat-seaker, you should breeze through the rest of the level. But until you do you better keep reading! Continue on until you see a dog eating out of a trash can. If you are playing a normal or hard game, the dog will come out of the trash can and start running after you. If you're playing an easy game, it won't follow you. If you keep walking you will encounter a red sniper atop a building and blue soldiers coming out of the building. If you shoot the red sniper the building will explode with the sniper. Jump onto the next set of rafters until you encounter the first mini-boss of the game! __________ ____/ The Wall \_____________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Easy | | | | First off, take out the red sniper at the top of the wall. Then continue by | | taking out the two cannons coming out the side. Once they are both | | destroyed, you can shoot the red dot from the ground level. Watch out for | | soldeirs coming from the left. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| After the mini boss, you will come to a tank that you can man. If you are having trouble with the level so far, I suggest you get into it because you cannot be hit but your tank does have limited health. If you don't get into it this part of the level is similar to what you already went through. Soon after you will encounter another easy mini-boss. ________________ ____/ The Wall Pt. 2 \_______________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Easy | | | | If you are in the tank, you should be able to take out the tank in one | | simple close shot. After this get all of the weapon carriers for they are most likely carrying bombs which are extremely useful in the next part of the level. After a few seconds, an airplane will fly by and shoot bombs at the ground. They will light the ground on fire and reveal a long inferno you must cross. Jump to the next pillar and climb up the wall. Then jump on the bars to hang on them. You will then reach an inferno spitting small fireballs in your direction. You can kill them by shooting at them. Wait until the inferno calms down, then cross to the other side. Then you will see a giant fireball moving up and down over the fire. You can also kill this. It is worth big points so I suggest you kill it. Then jump over to the next side and you will have to jump over a wall of fire. Shoot the next two giant fireballs for more big points and proceed on. You will then see a giant circular pattern of fire that will leave a hole for you to jump through every few seconds. When it's path ends, jump to the middle pillar then to the other bar. Jump to the next lower ledge and the fire on the ground will be put out. Continue on to face the level one boss. ________________ ____/ Alien Tortoise \_______________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Main-boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | To kill this guy you must shoot at its red heart. They are all relatively weak but just watch out for them shooting at you. They shoot a lot and rapidly. Shoot at them when they come out of their shell. On the floor you will notice mines. These aren't like real mines though. If you touch them they won't explode until a few seconds after you touch them. They don't hurt enemies though. Speaking of enemies, you will meet a new one. The alien snake. Just shoot it anywhere to kill it. It is relatively strong and will shoot bullets at you out of its mouth. On my map above you will notice lines of ^'s. These represent weak ground. When you walk over it, it will fall from below you, but on both places there is a thin path you can walk across. If you don't feel comfortable going across these, it is possible to kill all the armored aliens without walking over them. Well once you defeat all five aliens, you will be transported to another room where you will meet the alien spider. ______________ ____/ Alien Spider \_________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Main Boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | When you first see him, you should be facing toward his main gun. If you try shooting at it while it is moving, it will be inaffective. You need to shoot at it when it stops and opens it's shell. It will shoot bullets at you through the gun at the top. If you continue on you will come to a series of pipes to hang off of. Climb onto them and not far later alien birds will come and try and pick you up. They will try to pick you up on their wings and if they carry you out of the screen it counts as a hit. If they pick you up, you can shoot at them and if you kill them the will let go. Once you get far enough, the birds will mysteriously be killed and Spike will appear. ______________ ____/ Spike Form 1 \_________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Easy | | | | Let him pick you up on his wings, but watch out for the spike that comes out| | from the top of thim. When you are below him shoot up at him. Once he is | | dead he will start spinning his wings very fast. Make sure to jump off of | | his wings before he gets too low to the ground. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| Continue up to the higher bars then to the wall. Shortly after you will encounter Spike's secont form. ______________ ____/ Spike Form 2 \_________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | You are trapped inside his legs. There is no way to get out of this trap and| | if you handle it well, you will make it. When he moves a leg he will shoot | | two missles at you. This may seem hard to avoid but I have a simple solution| | to this. Before he shoots at you, move as close as you can to his top leg | | without getting hit. As he shoots his missles will be forced to move up due | | to your position. If you moved and were in position before he shot at you, | | you shouldn't get hit unless you move. You can't hit him yet, but once you | | get to the top his legs will cling onto two pieces of the wall that will | | extend out and you will face his final form. He will move up and down and | | every once in a while he will ram two spikes against the wall trying to hit | | you. When he is against the wall he will reveal his weak spot. It is in | | between the two spikes. Just move below the spikes before he hits the wall | | than shoot upwards at him. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| After the boss, climb up the wall and take out the three red snipers. Before you continue up all the way, read this! If you do have either a machine gun or heat-seaker or flame thrower, then don't bother getting this next weapon carrier. It carries a laser. This laser is very hard to use for the next mini- boss. But if you do have one and can spare your first or secondary weapon, then you can get it if you like. But you don't want to get stuck with two lasers, or without a machine gun, heat-seaker, or flame thrower. Anyway, continue up the stairs and you will see the weapon carrier. Continue across the gap and you will face another mini-boss. ____________ ____/ Alien Ship \___________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Medeuim | | | | First, he will shoot grenades under him. So don't stand under him! That | | smarts! Then after he stops shooting, we will reveal a red dot in the | | center. Stand under him and shoot at it. When his red dot is open batmen | | will come out of both sides of the top of his ship. If you have a heat- | | seaker, it should take care of them immediately, but if you don't you will | | have to aim off from center a little to hit them. Make sure they don't land | | on you and don't let them collect up on the bottom. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| Take out the two red snipers, then you will see two more red snipers near the door leading into the fortress. But these aren't like regular snipers. They will shoot missles at you. There is only one round of these if you do it right and kill them immediately. Once they are taken care of, you need to shoot the door until it gets destroyed, then enter the fortress. The first thing you will see when you enter is two pannels that guns will come out of. They will shoot at you but they aren't a threat if you kill them immediately. There will be lots of these guns throughout the fortress. Continue up the stairs, and watch out for a gun and three batmen. These two were placed in awkward positions, so they may cause you a bit of trouble. You can't fall down below the bottom of the screen or it will count as a hit. At the top you will come to a hallway that you need to go down. You can pick up a heat-seaker in here if you want it. At the end of the hallway you will meet the stage three main boss. ____________________ ____/ Giant Aliens Act I \___________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Main Boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | These look like blown up red and blue aliens. The are pretty simple if you | | know what you're doing. If you hang from a wall or ceiling, you disable the | | blue alien. He cannot attack you unless you are at the ground. The red alien| | will jump around. If he is under you or near you he will jump and hang on to| | the ceiling and shoot three bullets at you. He will only shoot if you are | | directly above him or almost above him. Then just move to the other side of | | the room and hang so your head is just below his. This should make it so he | | can't hit you. Once they are both dead their torsos will dissappear and just| | their heads will be rolling around. If you hang from the ceiling, they can't| | hit you at all, so just shoot down at them. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| _____________________ ____/ Giant Aliens Act II \__________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Main Boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | After you kill the first set of aliens, a third will pop himself up from the| | wall behind you. He will open his mouth and you are to shoot inside it. His | | first attack is to shoot two heat-seaking light rays at you. Just run across| | the ceiling than jump off at the opposite side and you should avoid it. Then| | he will shoot a thin wall of fire. It will circulate around the room. It is | | possible to jump over it but I suggest if you aren't experienced in it or | | have low lives, just climb on the ceiling to avoid it. After he will shoot a| | few bombs that will go off in a couple of seconds. All you have to do is to | | move to where there seems to be less bombs. After this he will continue with| | his first attack. Keep hitting him when you have the chance and he will go | | down. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | Stage 4: The Sky | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ............ Introduction ............ You start out this level on a bike in a tunnel, then you are below a huge alien mother ship, then finally take to the skies for the stage four mini-boss, the Alien Mother Ship. ,,,,,,, Enemies ,,,,,,, Flying Aleins, Flying Mortors, Weapon Carriers, Red aliens, Black Aliens :::::: Bosses :::::: Alien Tank, Alien Long leg, Alien Ninja, Alien Mother Ship *********** Walkthrough *********** You start out this level with a twist. You find yourself in a tunnel riding on a futuristic bike. You don't have a choice to move, you will automatically do that. Soon you will see a few flying aliens and flying mortors. If you position yourself at the far left side and the screen and stay there. This will disable you from being hit by flying aliens. They will only shoot a line of bullets. The easiest way to avoid the flying mortors is to simply kill them. This is a simple task on easy mode, but on normal and hard mode these guys are extremely hard to kill before they throw a grenade at you. If they do get a shot off, just jump up to jump over it. Try to kill as many of these as you can. If you kill them all, you can get three or four extra lives. Once you get out of the tunnel, you will be greeted by the first mini-boss in this level. Luckily a nice easy one to start out with. ____________ ____/ Alien Tank \___________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Easy | | | | I always have a simple solution to every boss and mini-boss, and this one is| | no exception. The best weapon for this boss may possibly be the machine gun.| | If you have one just stand at the left side of the screen and shoot at the | | tank. Then every once in a while, take out the few aliens with jetpacks | | riding around. Watch out for any missles the tank will shoot at you. If you | | have any other weapon except the flame thrower, just use the same strategy. | | If you have a flamethrower, you should do about the same thing except only | | move in closer. Just watch out for shots that the red aliens will shoot at | | you. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| Once the alien tank falls, a giant alien ship will be hovering above you. There are certain stages you have to go through to get to the endof the ship. They are listed for you below. 1. The first obstacle is a simple electric field. There are three rays that will shoot lasers at certain intervals. They shoot relatively slow and give you lots of time in betweeen shots to fire at them. 2. Next there will be four hatches on the bottom of the ship where four guns will come out. They shoot only single bullets and can be killed relatively easily. 3. After the guns you will be greeted by this mechanical caterpillar hanging from the bottom of the ship. You can't kill it so this is all timing. I don't really have a method for making it through. You basically just have to go when you think the coast is clear. 4. There will be a black alien hanging from a pole above your head and four hatches above him. To move on you must kill the black alien. Out of the four hatches will come red aliens. The red aliens don't shoot you but try to jump on top of you. The best weapon for this is the flamethrower, and I believe one was just given to you earlier when you were under the ship by a weapon carrier. 5. A faster, longer electric field. There is a lot less time to move compared to the last laser. Make sure you can move and there is enough space between the laser and the wall. 6. A large gun shooting a single missle at the ground that will sweep the ground. You need to jump over it as best you can. This is a hard task. And unfortunately you can't disable the gun by shooting at you. After this gun you will see the end of the ship but now you run into a mini- boss. ________________ ____/ Alien Long Leg \_______________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Easy | | | | The best weapon for this boss is the machine gun. There is a simple way to | | beat him and a hard way. The easy way is to stand as far as you can to the | | left side, hold R and shoot in a up/right direction. Continue shooting in | | that direction even if you aren't hitting it. If you stop hitting it, you | | will get hit. I don't know why but if you don't continuously shoot in an | | up/right direction the whole time you will get hit. If you do this, it | | should take care of any missles it shoots at you. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| You will then be greeted by an ally helicopter with a missle at the bottom. Jump onto the missle and hold onto it. Don't worry, it won't explode. It will carry you up into the sky where you will soon see a ninja flying towards your ship. _____________ ____/ Alien Ninja \__________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | Jump over him when he is first flying towards your ship. He will then extend| | a chain that he will hook onto the missle. He will swing back and forth and | | every three swings he will switch sides on the missle. Then he will pull | | himself to your level and shoot a boomerang at you and it will come back at | | you. If you jump over it, it should avoid you on the way back. Shoot him | | down. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| After you defeat the ninja, the missle will fire off of the helicopter and the helicopter will fly away. You will see more missles coming from the left side of the screen. You can also jump onto those. From the right side of the screen you will see the ship that was above you earlier. Now you just met your stage four boss! ___________________ ____/ Alien Mother Ship \____________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Main Boss | | | | Skill Level: Medium | | | | This is a quite different boss battle because you aren't on the ground, but | | in the sky, hanging from missles. The first thing you will notice is that | | the weak spot has a sheild around it in the beggining. Of course, you need | | to destroy this sheild. To do this shoot at the two projectors that make the| | beam. But watch out because the projectors will shoot disks at you. Luckily,| | they can only shoot at an angle. Before you destroy them both, there will be| | small bombs the ship will throw to try and explode the missles that you are | | standing on. If you touch them you will get hit. Once you destroy the two | | projections, bombs will be thrown at you more rapidly as you shoot at the | | red dot. Eventually the ship will go down. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | Stage 5: The Sandbox | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ............ Walk forward and you will jump over a gap and meet your first imp! These guys are really fast. They are like blue aliens but run a lot faster. Oh yeah, and they can jump, so watch out. Soon after the gap you will meet a mini-boss. _________________ ____/ Giant Centipede \______________________________________________________ | | | Type of boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Easy/Moderate | | | | Depending on what weapon you have, this will be either an easy or moderate | | mini-boss. The best weapons to have are the heat-seaker, machine gun, or the| | flame thrower. You need a good rapid fire weapon to beat this guy easily. | | the boss itself won't attack you but will shoot smaller centipedes, like the| | ones the alien tortoise in level one spit at you. If you don't kill these | | immediately they will surround you and there is no hope for you. To kill it | | you have to shoot at its mouth. Pretty simple. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| After the boss, continue forward and you will meet mouthes. These are either in the ceiling or in the floor below you. It is advised you kill these as soon as you can. They will shoot these spikes at you that are attracted to you. Kill these if they are near you. Keep walking until you jump to an area with pink floors and ceilings that look like flesh. Soon after you will encounter a mini- boss. ___________ ____/ The Heart \____________________________________________________________ | | | Type of boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Moderate | | | | The first thing you want to do is take out the two bottom pods and the one | | on the top closest to you. Don't try to take out the back, top one. It is | | not worth trying to hit. The pods will shoot out scorpions. The ones on the | | ceiling will jump down on to you. They are not hard to kill though. Once you| | kill the three pods, shoot at the heart. The heart won't shoot at you but | | if you touch it, it will count as a hit. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| Next, just walk forward and you will come to another mini-boss. There is absolutely no enemies in between so just get a rest if you need one. _______________ ____/ Scorpion Toad \________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Moderate | | | | This one is a pure battle of speed. You will need all of your previous | | skills of speed and reaction to fight this one out. The Scropion Toad's | | attacks are closed together but you will catch on pretty fast. First, he | | will try and ram you against the wall. Then he will shoot these bullets out | | of his mouth towards the ceiling. They will fall from the ceiling once they | | touch it, but avoiding them isn't hard. Immediately after this, he will | | shoot a yellow laser from his eye in your direction. It isn't heat seaking | | but will go in your direction. When he is shooting at the ceiling and is | | shooting the yellow laser is when you should hit him. His weak spot is his | | mouth. Sometimes, he will borrow underground then come back up. If he comes | | up on the left side of the screen, he will jump back to the left side, just | | go under him. | | The other strategy I've heard is to stand on his leg. This does work but I | | suggest doing the first if you are a good, fast player. If you aren't as | | experienced just stand on the top of his leg. You will be guarded by attacks| | from his mouth but you still need to avoid his yellow laser. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| After you defeat him, continue on, killing the few imps that come by. You will come to a wall that goes straight up. Once you are ready, climb up this wall and you will continue on to a hard, fast mini-boss that may give you some major problems. ________ ____/ Falcon \_______________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Mini-boss | | | | Skill Level: Hard | | | | This is a hard boss, especially while playing in normal and hard modes. | | First, he will start moving from the wall towards you. Position yourself | | either at the top, or bottom of the screen, and quickly move away from your | | position when he comes darting at you. Shoot upwards, or downwards at his | | head. Do this a couple of more times and he will start disappearing and | | reapearing. Use the same strategy as above. Don't be afraid to use your | | bombs because you will probably loose some either in this battle or the | | next. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| Continue up the wall, and once you get to the top, a weapon carrier will fly by. If yo don't have any good weapons, I suggest you get this. Now, pause the game, go to the bathroom, get a drink, take a walk. You will need full concentration for the final boss of the game. Once you are ready, return to your game and face the ______________ ____/ The Overlord \_________________________________________________________ | | | Type of Boss: Final Boss | | | | Skill Level: Hard | | | | Okay, you have made it to the end. Done a certain way, he is a cinch. Okay, | | first comes the head and claws to each side of it. Immediately concentrate | | fire on the left claw (since you are automatically closer to it). If you do | | it fast enough, and have good weapons, you should be able to take it out | | before it unfurls and tries to hit you. Once the left claw is down, shoot | | the face, making sure to destroy both eyes, which can shoot tiny shots at | | you. Then go for the right claw, being sure to back off if necessary, since | | you now have plenty of safe room. Remember, you have to hit the end of the | | claw, not the claw body, to destroy it. Now, shoot the undefended brain, at | | the top of the head. | | | | Now, he is where a slow motion controller will come in handy. The brain will| | go to the center of the screen, and a series of balls will spin around it. | | When you shoot one, the brain will stop spinning, and will attack you using | | whatever attack method the ball you shot stood for. Though you may | | personally find you prefer another ball-method, the easiest to handle | | overall is the giant eye. Stand on the left or right hand side of the brain,| | and, if you have a slow motion controller, turn it on so you can time you | | shot to hit the giant eye. If you don't have a slow motion controller, just | | try to time it right manually. Two things about the giant eyeballs that the | | brain will attack with: one, they are easy to destory, and two, they are | | worth *LOTS* of points. It is possible to earn enough points during each | | round of eye attacks to earn another life. See a strategy here? If you have | | less than 5 lives left or so, *AND* are playing in the hard mode, you should| | stop and just keep building a good reserve of lives for the *next* | | challenge. If you are not playing in the hard mode, that isn't necessary, | | though it might be a good idea if you only have a couple of lives left, to | | earn a few extra just in case you screw up towards the end. Four or five | | rounds and the brain will go down. | | | | If you are playing in hard mode, now you get to face the real final boss, | | and fight for the right to see the real ending of the game. Upon jumping | | onto your helicoptor, you will begin to rise out of the cavern. But, unlike | | easy or normal mode, you won't just fly on out, you'll be attacked by a very| | pissed off brain, in a spiked metal suit, with two flailing arms. The | | strategy here is to KEEP MOVING. Go back and forth, from left to right, | | jumping up and firing at its eye in the center, all the while avoiding its | | arms. Occasionally, the brain will come up at you with the spikes on the top| | center of its body. Be ready to jump out of the way, and to retaliate | | afterward. | |_____________________________________________________________________________| Hey! Congratulations! You beat the game. My Review of Contra III |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., "Konami now owns my respect as the best gaming company!" Overall Rating: 10/10 The Contra series has never really gotten anywhere. Most gamers have never heard of Contra or let alone played Contra. I was just browsing around Funcoland looking for some good SNES games when I came across this. It was only a couple of dollars so I figured, "Why not?" I brought it home, put in into my system, and immediately fell in love with it. After a few minutes of gameplay, I had finially found my place in the gaming world. It's so simplistic yet so amazingly fun to play alone or by yourself. Graphics: 7/10 I know people who play games and if the graphics are 2-D, they take the game out put it in a pile and never play a game again. People like this are missing out on a great game. Though Contra III's graphics aren't stunning it is still an awesome game. It is a 2-D game just like the other Contra games. Though the graphics are kind of blocky, the gameplay all but makes up for the graphics. Sound: 8/10 Sound isn't bad with all considered. It's an old Super Nintendo game. There aren't many sound effects but when there are they are pretty cool. The background music is also very cool in all of the levels. Gameplay: 10/10 This is quite possibly the most fun Run 'N' Gun type game that I've ever played. Once you get used to the controls and increase your skill level, this game will come easily to you. There is also two different modes of two player games. This game is also very fun to play with friends. The only flaw about the gameplay is that you cannot save, nor is there a password system for beating a level. This means when you get a game over, you can't just load a game and continue from where you left off. You must start from the first level with no stats, weapons, bonuses, nothing! Story: 7/10 There really isn't much of a story. Most of the game is just shooting things. But that's what counts. Replay Value: 9/10 Most people don't give this game a chance. Once they get to the second level that get a game over, they don't want to play again because they don't want to have to struggle through the first level again. But if you give this game a chance and keep playing, not only will you have a lot of fun, but you will play it all the time, because this game does grow on you. Overall: 10/10 I love Contra III and it is what got me into the rest of the Contra games and other run 'n' gun games. It is so fun to play by youself or with friends, and is so easy after you get to know what you're doing. If your looking for a Super Nintendo game, this is the game for you. It's cheap and worth every cent of it. Why it's good: -It has great gameplay -It is very fun -You'll love to play it over and over -It has cool graphics and sound -Can be played with two players Why it's bad: -You can't save -There is no passwords -The cheats only work for the JP version. ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 12. Endings |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., There are three endings in Contra 3. They are determined by what skill level you have the game on when you beat it. If you beat it on hard, you will see the real ending. You will see people cheering, celebrating, and other pictures. If you beat it on normal, first the nest will explode, then you will get a message saying "You are getting better, but now you must face the real challenge". Or something like that. When you push the start button you will start over on hard mode If you beat it on easy, the nest will explode and you will get the message to try a harder level. This is the easiest to get and if you press start you will restart the game on normal mode. FAQ |* ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., These questions are from another Contra FAQ on GameFAQs. I basically just recopied it. Q. Is there a way to shoot both guns besides jumping and shooting in a circle? A. I've been trying to find ways to do this task but so far, I have only found that you can only shoot both guns if you jump and shoot in a circular matter. If you happen to find out how, please email me or tell me on AIM. Q. Is there any codes for this game? A. Yes. There are PAR codes and regular game codes. The regular game codes only work for the Japanese version of this game. The codes are found in the Game and PAR Codes section of this walkthrough. Q. I heard of a special weapon called the "Atomic Weapon". How do I get it? A. Bah! From what I know that is just a mere myth. I've asked lots of Contra fans about this and tried it myself and I have found nothing like this. The myth says to go to the brain that shoots out weapons, and wait until an "M" pops out and get it. I've tried this and so have many other people who have played the game and they all say it is a myth. ,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,., *| 15.
