Introduction II. Stat Development III. Dragon Types IV. Items V. Dragon Breeding VI. Other VII. Closing I. Introduction Bahamut Lagoon is a great SRPG made by Square that never made it to the US. This faq is based off of the English translation of the game done by Tomato, Dejap Translations & Co. This game looks like and to an extent plays like a SNES Final Fantasy game. However, the battle system is a strategy based system where you control up to 6 groups each consisting of four warriors and a dragon. I am writing this faq to help people better understand what is one of the more creative and fun aspects of the game, the development of your dragons. Raising your dragons' attributes is critical since not only does your dragon attack the enemies itself, but each of your parties rely on their dragon to provide them with magical power. II. Stat Development Your dragons have 17 different attributes that you can develop. By increasing the levels of these attributes, your dragon becomes more powerful and gains new attacks. a) Physical Attributes: Strength (Str), Vitality (Vit), Dexterity (Dex), and Mind The point range for these attributes is from 0 to 250, with levels increasing after every 25(level 10 max). Strength affects the dragon's attack power, Vitality affects its defense, Dexterity affects its speed, and Mind affects its magic. Strength and Vitality have an effect on the dragon's appearance, Dexterity and Mind do not. In order to affect the dragon's appearance, either Strength or Vitality has to reach level 1(25 points). Then, whichever stat is higher determines which of two forms the dragon can become at that time with no other stat changed. If they are they both are at the same number of points, Vitality is dominant. b) Elemental Attributes: Fire, Water, Lightning (Lit), Life, and Poison (Po) The point range for these attributes is from 0 to 100, with levels increasing after every 10(level 10 max). Fire, Water, and Lit all work in a similar way to affect the appearance of your dragon(with the exception of the Power Eagle form). Life and Poison are opposing similar to Strength and Vitality. In order to affect the dragon's appearance, either Life or Poison has to reach level 1(10 points). Then, whichever stat is higher determines which of two forms the dragon can become at that time with no other stat changed. If they are they both are at the same number of points and Intimacy is 50 or above, Life is dominant. If Intimacy is less than 50, Poison is dominant and thus determines the dragon's appearance along with the affects of the other stats. c) Other Attributes Hit Points (Hp): These make up you life power. When this drops to 0, your dragon is out for the remainder of the battle. Magic Points (Mp): These make up your magic power. When this number drops below the number of magic points it costs to cast a certain spell, that spell can no longer be used. Loyalty and Fidelity: Loyalty (Loy) acts as a trigger for Fidelity (Fid). When Loy reaches 100, your dragon becomes a special form named UniUni which will be discussed later. Wisdom (Wis): Affects how the dragon attacks. If wisdom is low, then it will scratch the enemy more often than doing a magical attack or a special melee attack. This statistic also affects the dragon's landing choices on the map. Intimacy (Int): Affects dragon's willingness to heal and aid your characters. It's rate of preemptive attack is determined by this stat. Also, this statistic is key in determining the dragon's form(life vs. poison, explained above in b)). If it is 0, your dragon will become a Lonely Dragon. Personality (Per) : Determines the way the dragon moves on the map. If this is low, the dragon tends to stay closer to the group, but if it is high, it gets more aggresive and goes after the ememies. Transform (Trf): Hidden stat for the unknown dragon type(explained later). d) Attacks The game has 8 elements total. Five of them are the attributes themselves. The other three are Earth, Sacred and Dark. The Earth level is equal to the lowest level out of Fire, Water and Lit. Sacred and Dark are either absent or level 10, dependent if your dragon has become a sacred (not to be confused with the Sacred Dragons in the main plotline) or dark dragon. Each dragon gains the same magic attacks except for Sacred and Dark, which are different for each dragon. The spells your dragon gains directly affects the attacks that you party members can us in battle. The primary magic spells are: Hellfire (10mp) Ice Breath (10mp) Electron (10mp) Poison Gas (12mp) Refresh (13mp) Terra Break (14mp) In addition to these magic attacks, there are also four physical attacks that each dragon can get. They are: Bite, level determined by Strength Body Blow, level determined by Vitality Claw, level determined by Dexterity Sonic Boom, level determined by Mind All other attacks will be discussed with the special types in the next section. This vicious looking class can use all the basic spells and attacks. The forms and added attacks are : Salamando Sacred : Phoenix, Solar Flare(25mp) Dark : Effex, Raging Flames(24mp) Note : In this form and the master form, Salamando will have infinate Hp. Icedrake Sacred : Saint Weapon, Burst Gale(23mp) Dark : Black Buster, Dark Light(22mp) Molten Sacred : Raiden, Thunder Wave(24mp) Dark : Helmoot, Sky's Rage(26mp) Thunderh Sacred : D. Chimera, Big Carnival(26mp) Dark : Black Chimera, Melee 99(19mp) - treated as a dark physical attack Twinhead Sacred : Last Gigantes, Death's Undead(24mp) Dark : Belzebub, Fly Swarm(26mp) Munimuni Sacred : Odin, Fatal Blade(33mp) Dark : Black Dragoon, Dark Blade(29mp) Baby Sacred : Lexus, Nightmare 100(27mp) Dark : Hidon, Grand Train(29mp) Note : The dark form of the baby dragon should be familiar to anyone who has played though FF6. Master Dragon: This is the best form of your dragon. Its appearance is the same as the dragon when you got it. Your dragon reaches this form when all of its elemental and physical attributes (see II. a) + b)) reach level 10. You'll want most of your dragons to be in this form by the end of the game. Your main dragon, Salamando, will have infinite Hp in this form. Lonely Dragon : Your dragon will become this class when its Intimacy attribute reaches 0. This dragon has the attacks of your normal form, but seems to have very poor decision making skills. It won't help you out. This dragon type has priority over all classes except Uni Uni and Unknown Form. Uni Uni : This is a special type of dragon who has very powerful attacks but also has a high rate of failure. It can only do a normal attack, use its special physical attack, use its spell, or miss. None of its attacks nor its associated party's attacks are elemental. Your dragon becomes an Uni Uni when its Loy field reaches 100 and its Fid field reaches 10. It has ten forms that increase with each Fid level, the last of which is the Black Dragon. It then gains the powerful Dark Power(28mp) attack in addition to the normal Uni Breath(12mp) spell. Its attacks are very powerful, and so it may be a good idea to make one of your dragons this class for the added power if needed. Your summoners' Sacred Dragon summon spells will have changed into silly looking attacks and all your parties' attacks will fail frequently. Since your little demons already have a high failure rate and their Uni Uni attacks are very powerful, they seem to pair pretty well. This dragon type has priority over all classes other than the Unknown Form. Unknown Form : This class can only be reached with the Princess ??? items. This class is similar to the Uni Uni class in that it limits the attacks your party can have to one powerful attack for each class. The warrior attacks are less powerful than the Uni Uni class, but they don't randomly fail either. The dragon itself cannot do any melee attacks, but can engage the enemy and turn into any Sacred/Dark dragon form and do its sacred/dark attack. It also can turn into a Black Dragon and do its Dark Power attack or fail. The dragon's attacks do randomly fail, but not too often. It has 10 levels, but only 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 can be reached since the Princess ??? item increases the Trf stat (not visible anywhere) by 20. Its final form is the Behemoth class, which is quite powerful since it only uses the most powerful level 10 attacks. Another advantage to this class is that its attacks use no magic power. This dragon type has priority over all other classes. IV. Items This is a table of all the games items and the effects they have on your dragons when fed to them. Dragon Breeding In Chapter 19, DragonKeeper asks you to pick two of your dragons for mating. The baby dragon's appearence and statistics are determined by the parents. Each of the baby's stats are 1 point below the greater of the two parent's stats(except Hp, Mp and Trf). The baby only has four normal forms and the Uni Uni and Unknown forms(no Lonely Dragon). It has its baby form, its sacred and dark forms, and its master form(which is the same as the baby form). Its appearence in its baby/master form is determined by the two parents. If either of the parents is an Unknown form, it will look similar to an Unknown. If either of its parents is an Uni Uni and the other isn't an Unknown form, it will look like an Uni Uni. Otherwise the baby will have some of the characteristics of each of its parents. Parent dragon - possible baby/master form characteristics, primary one first Uni Uni - looks like an Uni Uni, see above Unknown - looks like and Unknown, see above Salamando - round face, red color Icedrake - smile, slender body, blue color, pointy nose Molten - beady eyes, brown color, random chars Thunderh - furry, brown color Twinhead - two heads, purple hair Munimuni - one-eye, brown color VI. Other This section will give some tips on the game, some not having to do with dragon breeding. a) Rare Items To get the game's most powerful items, you must kill the very powerful enemies located in the difficult bonus board. There are a few other enemies that will give you these items, but the ones on the difficult board are the only ones that you can access easily. Here is a list of the items they drop along with the element used to kill them. Fire : Crusader, Armada Mail, Prinzeugen, Auschwitz Spear Ice : Invincible Spear, Etendahl Rapier, Auschwitz Spear, Mach Vest Lit : Kuegel Blitz, Iron Duke, Thundara Robe, Burning Spear Earth : Pax Kahna armor, Royal Gown, Empress Kahna, Mega Buster Heal : Imperator, Scharnhorst, Kaiser Rin, Marshal Nay Poison : Black Prince Armor, Dellinger, Dark Force, Destroyer Sacred : Excalibur Sword, Dreadnaught, Reconquista, Longinus Dark : Energy Armor, Gneisenau, Powered Suit, Chobham Armor None : Bastard Sword, Master Rod, Harpoon, Maximilian Armor (note: so use elemental attacks!) b) Princess??? items There are five Princess??? items that will increase your dragon's Beh stat. Ch. 6 : Yoyo's bed Ch. 12 : Must choose Matelight for the spy mission Ch. 18 : Yoyo's bed Ch. 19 : Shopkeepers will give it to you after you choose which dragons are going to mate. Ch. 22 : Must chase Rush to the men's quarters and chose the second option, "Yeah, it hurts." c) Mist There is a third light knight in the game that you had in the first battle, but lost after the attack on Kahna. You can get her back in your party in Ch.14. First you must follow Melodia to Yoyo, talk to her twice, then explore the town. Talk to everyone you see. Go up to the house on the northeast side of town to encounter Donfan talking to another woman. After that go to the tree in the center of town and talk to the woman in front of it(where you stand is important) and Donfan will appear. You will then be able to go into the building in the northwestern part of town and find Mist. VII.
