Version History ID#000 ******************************************************************************* ----------------------- Version 1.00 | 24/12/04 ----------------------- The first version of the guide. Contains all currently planned information. ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* II. Introduction ID#010 ******************************************************************************* Hello, hello. I'm BlitzBoy and this is my third FAQ. I've owned a Sega Master System since I was a six and I've loved playing on it. Here in New Zealand, we were more of a Sega country than a Nintendo country so SMS and SMD were all the rage and the NES and SNES were pretty much unheard of. Teddy Boy was one of my favourite games. It was addictive, somewhat difficult (at the time, at least), and fun to play. Because of this, I've decided to write a FAQ for the game for anyone who happens to dig this up from a dusty box or downloads it or something. I've included handy little ID numbers along the sides of each section so you can jump to them with ease using the "Find" command (CRTL + F). Hope you find the guide useful and please feel free to email me with any feedback or corrections. ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* III. Controls ID#100 ******************************************************************************* The controls for Teddy Boy are simple. ----- D-Pad ----- Moves Teddy Boy left and right. -------- Button 1 -------- Makes Teddy Boy jump. -------- Button 2 -------- Makes Teddy Boy fire his gun. ------------ Pause Button ------------ Pauses the game. ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* IV. Gameplay ID#200 ******************************************************************************* So what do you do? ------ Object ------ The object of the game is to battle your way through various maze levels, fighting off enemies as you go along. To win a level, you must dispatch all enemies in that level AND collect the orbs they leave behind. Dispatching an enemy is simple. Just shoot it. Some enemies may take several hits to take out or can only be harmed if shot in certain places. ---- Orbs ---- Orbs are harmless minitures of the enemies. When you take out an enemy, he becomes an orb. Collect this orb to destroy the enemy for good. If an orb is not collected and you die, he will respawn again when you respawn. Any enemy whos orb has been collected will not respawn, even if you should die. Beware, however, as if you fail to collect an orb quick enough, it will turn into a Time Eater and eat some of your timer. Orbs that become Time Eaters will not respawn if you die. ----- Timer ----- Yep, you have a limited amount of time to complete each level. If you fail to complete the level in this time period, you will die and lose a life. Any orbs you fail to collect quickly enough will become Time Eaters and will shorten the amount of time you have to complete the level. ---- Dice ---- Maximum of six, minimum on 1. These things are whatyour enemies spawn from. The Number of the die corresponds to how many enemies are "inside" the die ready to be spawned. Most enemies are spawned one at a time. They will exit the die one at a time, alternating what side they come out of. Other enemies, however, spawn all at once in a group. These enemies are "group enemies" and will stick together unless you seperate them using force (ie: shooting them). ------------- Other Tidbits ------------- Only a eight enemies and orbs can be active on a level at a time. The rest remain in their dice until you collect dispatched enemies' orbs (or until they become Time Eaters). This is good because it means you can't be excessively flooded by enemies. Also, if it's a group's turn to spawn, it will not spawn until you collect enough orbs to allow them to spawn without going over the eight enemy limit. You can use this to your advantage if you plan accordingly. The floor you stand quite weak. Stand on one spot long enough and it will give way. Be sure to move if you spot the floor "fizzing" to avoid falling on an enemy. Enemies can't weaken floors. On most levels there are destroyable blocks. There take three hits to destroy. Sometimes it is best to leave certain blocks in place to block off possible enemy ambush or escape points. Blocks can also weaken a fizzle away if you stand on them too long. Each level is designed as a maze of sorts. You may note that each level appears to be endless in size. Until you notice that everything looks the same down there as it does up there. Each level is in fact a giant loop. So if you go far enough to the right, you'll end up back where you started. The same if you go up, down or any direction. ------ Losing ------ You start the game with three lives. If you come in contact with an enemy, you will die and lose a life. If you run out of time, you will die and lose a life. When you die, any orbs still lying around in the level uncollected will respawn as their respective monsters when you restart the level. Only enemies whos orbs have been collected will remain eliminated. When you lose all of your lives, the game is over and you will be returned to the title screen. Try and beat your high score! ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* V. Enemies ID#300 ******************************************************************************* Throughout his adventures, Teddy Boy well encounter various enemies. While some are fairly basic and easy to dispatch, some are more erratic and can be harder to take out and/or avoid. The following is a list and description of each enemy in the game. Be aware that these aren't official names or anything but the names I've given them. ------- Soldier ------- Little blue man. The most basic of enemies. All he does it walks along the path. Fairly simple to avoid, even simpler to kill. One shoot and he's an orb. The only thing to be wary of is that the Soldier tends to do a little jump when he reaches a dead end or the end of a platform. -------- Red Head -------- What appears to be a red fire-ballish looking head. These usually appear in groups. They hop in one direction and change then they hit an object. Shooting one in the group can also cause them to change direction. Their only trick is that they sometimes hop extra high for no apparent reason. ---------- Metal Slug ---------- Snail/slug looking thing with a metal shell. This guys have two "modes". One is it's ground mode - it take the form of a snail and moves along it for short distances. It's second mode is it's airborne mode. It takes the form of a slug and move across the air in either direction. Be careful when engaging a group of them as you could get surrounded. It can only be eliminated if hit in it's soft head. It's shell is impervious to any attack and will cause the Metal Slug to retreat inside it's shell when hit. --------- Crocodile --------- Looks like the head of a crocodile. These things are EVIL. They fly around randomly. Because of it's unpredictable movements and small size, these things can get you quite easily. You definitely don't want to be in an open space when engaging a group of these. Finding a nice little sheltered place on the level to fire from is recommended. ----- Slime ----- Looks like jelly with an eye. These guys can stick to any surface. They will continue in a straight line go along floors, ceilings and walls. However, one nasty trick they have is that when equal with you vertically, if on the ceiling they will drop down to the floor. In other words, if a Slime is directly above you or directly below you, it will let go of ceiling it is currently walking on and fall to the ground, despite what may be between it and you. So be careful as you wouldn't one of these guys to drop in you while you're blasting something else away. ---- Flea ---- Looks some weird one-eyed hopping insect. I've never been good at describing things. Anyway, these guys usually appear in groups. They are quite similar to the Red Heads. They hop in one direction, only changing direction if they reach a dead end (or sometimes when they are shot). Simply hitting an obstruction will not cause them to change direct. They hop higher than Red Heads but move at a slower speed. Make sure they don't land on you. ----------- Pin Cushion ----------- Looks like... well a cushion or perhaps a loaf of bread. These guys jump along as they please, changing direction when it suits them. They take multiple consecutive hits to take out. As you shoot them, will turn redder and redder until the pop and become an orb. If you cease fire on them, they will return to normal colour and continue along their way. Beware of two or more Pin Cushions ganging up on you. As one takes the first few hits, the second likes to jump in front and take the next few while the first recovers. Then the first jumps out in front again and this continues as they slowly inch towards you. ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* VI. Rounds ID#400 ******************************************************************************* Teddy Boy has 50 rounds to battle through. As it is rather difficult to post an actual walkthrough for each round considering the nature of the game I will simply list each round and the enemies that spawn in it. ------- Round 1 ------- Soldier - 16 ------- Round 2 ------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 8 Metal Slug - 6 ------- Round 3 ------- Soldier - 2 Crocodile - 9 ------- Round 4 ------- Red Head - 8 Slime - 12 ------- Round 5 ------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 5 Metal Slug - 6 ------- Round 6 ------- Soldier - 12 Red Head - 4 Crocodile - 6 Flea - 4 ------- Round 7 ------- Soldier - 4 Red Head - 8 Slime - 4 Flea - 4 ------- Round 8 ------- Soldier - 4 Red Head - 4 Metal Slug - 4 Slime - 4 ------- Round 9 ------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 4 Metal Slug - 6 Flea - 4 -------- Round 10 -------- Soldier - 6 Metal Slug - 1 Crocodile - 6 Pin Cushion - 5 -------- Round 11 -------- Flea - 12 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 12 -------- Red Head - 8 Crocodile - 5 Slime - 5 -------- Round 13 -------- Soldier - 9 Red Head - 8 -------- Round 14 -------- Soldier - 4 Red Head - 4 Crocodile - 4 Flea - 4 -------- Round 15 -------- Soldier - 4 Red Head - 4 Metal Slug - 3 Crocodile - 12 -------- Round 16 -------- Red Head - 8 Metal Slug - 6 Slime - 6 -------- Round 17 -------- Soldier - 6 Crocodile - 4 Flea - 4 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 18 -------- Soldier - 10 Red Head - 8 Crocodile - 4 -------- Round 19 -------- Soldier - 10 Red Head - 4 Metal Slug - 4 Crocodile - 4 -------- Round 20 -------- Soldier - 12 Slime - 6 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 21 -------- Red Head - 8 Crocodile - 6 Slime - 6 -------- Round 22 -------- Red Head - 4 Slime - 6 Flea - 4 Pin Cushion - 2 -------- Round 23 -------- Soldier - 10 Crocodile - 6 Flea - 8 -------- Round 24 -------- Red Head - 8 Crocodile - 7 Slime - 6 Flea - 4 -------- Round 25 -------- Soldier - 4 Red Head - 4 Crocodile - 6 Flea - 4 -------- Round 26 -------- Soldier - 5 Crocodile - 4 Flea - 8 Pin Cushion - 4 -------- Round 27 -------- Soldier - 12 Red Head - 12 -------- Round 28 -------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 6 Metal Slug - 6 -------- Round 29 -------- Red Head - 8 Flea - 12 -------- Round 30 -------- Soldier - 6 Crocodile - 9 Slime - 5 Pin Cushion - 4 -------- Round 31 -------- Soldier - 24 -------- Round 32 -------- Metal Slug - 4 Slime - 8 Flea - 8 -------- Round 33 -------- Crocodile - 6 Slime - 6 Flea - 4 -------- Round 34 -------- Soldier - 4 Red Head - 4 Crocodile - 3 Flea - 7 -------- Round 35 -------- Red Head - 4 Metal Slug - 6 Flea - 4 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 36 -------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 4 Slime - 6 Flea - 4 -------- Round 37 -------- Red Head - 4 Crocodile - 6 Slime - 6 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 38 -------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 6 Pin Cushion - 4 -------- Round 39 -------- Metal Slug - 5 Crocodile - 8 Slime - 9 -------- Round 40 -------- Red Head - 8 Crocodile - 4 Flea - 4 -------- Round 41 -------- Red Head - 4 Flea - 8 Pin Cushion - 2 -------- Round 42 -------- Flea - 24 -------- Round 43 -------- Soldier - 6 Crocodile - 4 Slime - 6 Pin Cushion - 4 -------- Round 44 -------- Soldier - 6 Red Head - 5 Crocodile - 8 -------- Round 45 -------- Soldier - 10 Metal Slug - 12 Crocodile - 8 -------- Round 46 -------- Soldier - 8 Crocodile - 6 Slime - 6 Flea - 4 -------- Round 47 -------- Slime - 12 Flea - 12 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 48 -------- Red Head - 8 Crocodile - 6 Flea - 8 -------- Round 49 -------- Soldier - 18 Pin Cushion - 6 -------- Round 50 -------- Soldier - 1 Red Head - 4 Crocodile - 2 Slime - 4 Flea - 3 Pin Cushion - 6 ------------ Bonus Rounds ------------ Every couple of rounds a bonus round will come up. In these rounds, the object is to destory as many dice as possible to obtain as many points as possible. The bonus round ends when you round out of time or you make contact with a Metal Slug. Inside the dice are bonus point items, Time Eaters and Metal Slugs. ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* VII. Secret Menu ID#500 ******************************************************************************* This is accessible from the title screen. To access it use the follow code: Up, Down, Left, Right This will take you to a secret menu with a few options. Help, I can't see it! The colour of the font takes the same colour the title was when you activated the cheat. You may have noticed that the Teddy Boy title flashes several colours and even flashes off at one point. If you happen to activate the cheat when it flashes off, the font for the secret menu will be invisible. Try resetting the console and trying again. The secret menu options: -------- Continue -------- Only accessible after losing the game. Selecting YES lets you continue from the stage you were last at. ---- Fire ---- YES or NO with YES being the default option. I haven't a clue what this does. Anyone care to fill me in? -- 1P -- YES or NO with YES being the default option. Simple sets the game as either a 1-player or a 2-player game. Completely useless, really. ----- Round ----- This option is hidden. To access it, when you enter the secret menu (without pressing any other keys) input this: Up, Down, Down, Down, Down, Down, Down, Down, Down, Down, Button 1 Another option will appear at the bottom on the list. This allows you to pick any stage to start at. ******************************************************************************* ******************************************************************************* X. Outro ID#800 ******************************************************************************* And so the FAQ comes to an end. I'll say it again, feel free to email me with feedback and corrections. A FAQ can probably never be "completely" finished as long as people notice something wrong with it. Help me achieve completeness! My email is located at the top of the page. Thank you for reading and (supposedly) using my guide. ------------------------- ------ Credit Where Credit's Due ID#810 ------------------------- ------ I credit and thank these people/companies for whatever they contributed to this guide.
