------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------[Nekkyu Koshien]--------------------------------- ----------------------------[by Ice Queen Zero]-------------------------------- ---------------------------[ Sega Master System ]------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- o---------------------o INTRODUCTION o---------------------o I don't know if they do this in actual high school baseball games but I do know that in anime high school baseball games, you will see of the members of the student body in the audience beating on the gong or on the drums whenever the action gets lively just like when you go to a soccer/football game, you will see people with their noisemakers throughout the match. Reason I brought that up is because Nekkyu Koshien acts like an anime High School baseball game in fact, the name of the game translates to High School Fastball (Smoking Pitch). o---------------------o DISCLAIMER o---------------------o Nekkyu Koshien is a trademark of Sega and all copyrights belong to them. Button 1 = Use with base direction to get extra base or steal base while at bat. Button 2 = Swing bat Defense ------- D-pad = move closest offensive player to the ball/alter pitch flight. Button 1 = pick off attempt/jump for hit ball Button 2 = pitch/throw ball at base direction/dive for hit ball o---------------------o GAMEPLAY o---------------------o When you start the game you choose whether you want to play a 1-player game or a 2-player game then choose the difficulty level of play. Play as 1 of 49 high school teams all across Japan. Afterwards, choose a team name which can use hirigana or romaji (alphabet). Depending on the team, you'll randomly be chosen as either the away team or the home team. -Just like in real baseball, the away team is always the first to go at bat. -The home team will almost always be the last at bat in the game but the only exception is that if the home team is leading by the time the away team gets 3 outs in the 9th inning, then home team will win on the spot. Likewise, if the home team takes the lead in the bottom of the 9th inning or any extra innings then the game is over immediately without needing to get 3 outs and the home team wins. -Speaking of extra innings, you will play them if the game is tied after the home team fails to win at the end of the 9th inning. The game will end if the away team takes the lead and the home team fails to tie the game or if the home team takes the lead outright. -There is a hidden menu accessed by pressing left, right, left, right, right at the game select screen then choose the game. This will bring up three options that make the game easier. You will notice that the CPU players play like they belong in Little League. Always dropping balls or forgetting to catch balls that are easily caught. -An out is recorded if a flyball is caught (pop out), three strikes are called (Strikeout), a defense player touches a runner in motion if they have the ball (tag out), the runner fails to make it to base in time and the defense player touches the base whether the ball was hit on the ground or caught in the air. (groundout or forceout). You can also strike out if the bunt fouls and you got two strikes already. A normal foul will not result in a strike out. -In that fact, if a batter pops out or fouls out (pop out in foul territory), all runners on base must return to their previous base or they will be called out. However, if they return to the base, they are free to run to the next base if they are gutsy enough. Most runner do this if they are on third base and the batter flies out close to the wall. -A strike is called if the ball is thrown and it crosses home plate but it will become a ball if the ball was too low or bounced to the plate. You also get a ball if it didn't cross home plate. You can get a strike if you swing and miss regardless of the ball position. Even if you take a practice swing before the pitch, the pitch will be a strike regardless if you don't swing at it. Four balls will result in a free base. A free base is awarded if the batter is hit by a pitch. -It is possible to get a hit on a ball that bounced. If it bounces, wait for it to get high enough and then swing at it. If an air ball crosses the blue line then it's a homerun. If it bounces before hitting the line then it will bounce back into play. Bad physics at play here to be honest. -Another gutsy move is stealing bases, run for it when the pitch is out and hope you can make it successfully. -Regardless of if you win or if or lose, you will return to the Sega screen when the celebration (winning) is over or finish wallowing in defeat (losing). -When running the bases, successfully getting a base hit is called a Single, get two bases and it's a Double. Three bases nets you a Triple. If you manage to go through all four bases without getting an out, it's an infield homerun and that is rare but very easy in the easy modes. o---------------------o CREDITS o---------------------o Sega for making this game.
