They come in different ways and mushrooms will block your shots. To win, you need to shoot away every centipede before they reach your cannon, thus eating you. When you shoot a centipede anywhere other than its head or tail, it will split in two creating even more trouble. The playing field is full of mushrooms which can slowly be destroyed. Also, random critters will occasionally come through which you can shoot for some extra points. Scoring ~ =-----= Centipede ................................... 10-500 Points Scorpion ...................................... 1000 Points Starfish ................................... 300-900 Points Spider ..................................... 300-900 Points Crab .......................................... 1000 Points Fly ............................................ 200 Points Snail .......................................... 200 Points Misquito ....................................... 300 Points Mushroom .......................................... 1 Point To key to winning is to shoot the centipedes either in the head or the tail. Shooting them in the middle will only cause them to split in two causing you even more trouble. Hitting them in those two locations is difficult however, aiming for these locations will help you a bit more. Centipedes move fast so try your best to get them there. If you aren't focusing on centipedes at any point in the game, use that time to destroy a few mushrooms. Not only will you clear the area so that shooting new centipedes will become easier, but 1 Point for each mushroom is a really good deal. As you can see, there are many other targets you can hit for some extra points. As soon as one gets onto the field, shoot it immediately. Why? Because extra points is just what you need. Pay close attention to the Crabs and Scorpions especially as they provide a whopping 1000 points! -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- 4.2. It is a rather simple game, but incredibly addicting. The main point is to hold a board and throw a ball which will knock out all the blocks for points. Hitting each block with the ball will gain you points. As the amount of blocks grows lesser and lesser, the difficulty mounts. To complete one stage, you must destroy every panel with the ball (To destroy it, you have to hit it). Advancing requires that you take out every block. Scoring ~ =-----= Green Block ..................................... 30 Points Red Block ....................................... 20 Points Yellow Block .................................... 20 Points Blue Block ...................................... 15 Points Purple Block .................................... 10 Points Cracked Green Block .............................. 5 Points Cracked Red Block ................................ 5 Points Cracked Yellow Block ............................. 5 Points Cracked Blue Block ............................... 5 Points Cracked Purple Block ............................. 5 Points Breakout is a difficult game to master completely, but once you get the hang of it, you will be advancing through levels like there's no tommorow. There are some ways to get the hang of it. At first, you won't be able to calculate where your ball will head. However, with practice, you can position your board so that the ball always bounces to where you want it to go. For a rough estimate, try to hit a ball with the side of the blaster board and watch it go to the side. However, if you strike the ball with the center, it will slingshot back in the direction it came to you. It takes practice. Be sure that the ball hits the board. This may seem like common knowledge but mastering that skill takes time. An excellent marksman won't really need any eye training for this, but if you are a normal person, the ball will probably miss the platform more often than not. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- 4.3. Missile Command [4300] -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- /=============================================================================\ | GAME INTERFACE | \=============================================================================/ | | | 0 0 0 0 0 0 P1 | | [2] [3] | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [5] | | | | | | | | | | | | | |[1] [1] [1] | | /\= _=/\_ =/\ | |---\ ___ ___ ___ / \ ___ ___ ___ /---| | \__/[4]\___/[4]\___/[4]\______/ \______/[4]\___/[4]\___/[4]\__/ | | | /=============================================================================\ | GAME INTERFACE | \=============================================================================/ [1] Cannons [2] Points [3] Player [4] Cities [5] Main Playing Field Out of all three of the mini-games included on Arcade Smash Hits, I remember Missile Command the best. It was definitely one of my favorites for that time. Anyhow, the point of Missile Command is to protect your six cities from an enemy assault. Your enemy will constantly be launching missiles which rain down on your position. Your job is to use your cannons to destroy every missile before they hit your city. To advance through levels, you have to obliverate every missile or wait until the round is over. Scoring ~ =-----= Bomber .......................................... 80 Points Sattelite ....................................... 80 Points Speed Bomb ..................................... 150 Points Missile ........................................ 100 Points Cluster Bomb ................................... 150 Points H Bomb ......................................... 100 Points City (Amount Remaining) ........................ 200 Points Your Ammo (Amount Remaining) .................... 20 Points While Missile Command is in no way, an easy game, it is quite possibly the easiest to master out of all three. To improve your experience, use these strategies; Try to focus on only one cannon at a time. Don't waste your time switching unless you have to (ie. A missile cannot be reached by one). Use the cursor and AIM. The biggest key is to AIM! You absolutely do not want to miss any missile unless you like your cities to be destroyed. Watch out for any Bombers, Speed Bombs, Cluster Bombs, etc. Shoot them down before they get to you. Not only are they worth more points, but you need to save your city, correct? Your cannons have a blast radius so most of the time, you can destroy two missiles with one shot. When you see two missiles close together coming straight at you, aim your cannons to the gap between them (Make sure they aren't too far away from each other or else you will miss both altogether) to destroy them both. This is a very good way of saving time. Keep all your cities alive. At the end of each round, the amount of cities will be multiplied together with 200 to add to your points. Not to mention that you need to uh, well, kind of keep your cities alive to advance... The same goes for ammunition. Conserve and at the end of that round, the amount of shots left is multiplied by 20 as well. =============================================================================== -+- 5.
