VAMPIRE SAVIOR FAQ Version 2.0 February 24, 1999 Sega Saturn Import By Chris Murdock and Joshua Reno Vampire Savior is Copyright Capcom Co. Ltd. 1997, 1998. All rights reserved. Hey, we don't mind if you use this FAQ for your own purposes. Please don't alter it, or use it in any other way other than its original intended use. If you do use any part of this FAQ, please quote the authors. This is an in depth FAQ for the awesome game Vampire Savior (known as Darkstalkers: Jedah's Damnation in the U.S.) This FAQ covers the SEGA SATURN version of the game. Note, that in the Saturn version, there are three extra characters not included in the arcade version. This game does REQUIRE the use of the 4 MEG RAM cart, and it uses up 16 blocks of internal RAM. CONTENTS: 1: Reading this FAQ 2: Options 3: Training 4: Basic Strategy 5: Advanced Strategy 6: Special Moves List 7: Goodies and Secrets --------- 1. READING THIS FAQ All commands are written assuming you are facing the right. Here is the notation we will use for the moves: F = forward D = down B = back U = up UF = up forward UB = up back DF = down forward DB = down back WP = Weak Punch MP = Medium Punch SP = Strong Punch 2P = TWO punch buttons AP = Any Punch WK = Weak Kick MK = Medium Kick SK = Strong Kick 2K = TWO kick buttons AK = Any Kick H = hold. This is also known as a charge move. This requires you to hold back (or down) for 1-2 seconds. QCF = quarter circle forward. In one smooth motion go D, DF, F. QCB = quarter circle back. In one smooth motion go, D, DB, B. HCF = half circle forward. In one smooth motion go B, DB, D, DF, F. HCB = half circle back. In one smooth motion go F, DF, D, DB, B. DP = dragon punch motion. In a continuous motion go F, D, DF. 360 = 360 degree motion. In one continuous motion, start F, DF, D, DB, B, UB, U, UF, F. ---------- 2. Options Here is a brief explanation of the options in the options menu: Difficulty: Default is 2. Less stars, easier, more stars, harder. Time Limit: Turn this to ON (99 seconds) or OFF (infinite time). Damage Gauge: This sets how many bat icons you have for a match. You can have from 1 to 4 (see Training). Turbo Speed: This sets the speed of gameplay, when you choose TURBO from the menu after you choose the character you want to play. Button Configuration: Set the buttons. You can use the L or R buttons for either a taunt ("Friendship"), or "Dark Force 1 or 2". Screen Size: Set it to Arcade (good if you have a big screen, or Saturn (t.v. safe). Sound Mode: Stereo or Mono. Sound Test: Listen to any of the background music from the game. Back Up: Load information, Save information, or have the computer Save information automatically by turning the Auto Save on. ---------- 3. Training Game Mechanics: Vampire Savior is not broken up into rounds like your standard fighting games. (i.e., Street Fighter) When your character loses his, her, or its energy, the round doesn't reset either. The timer continues from the point you were k.o.ed, but it doesn't reset. Standard game has two bat icons under your life gauge. You start out with two bat icons, each one representing one full life bar. When your life runs out, you lose a bat icon. When you lose all your bat icons, the match is over. The default setting is two bat icons, but this can be changed in the option menu under "Damage Gauge". Damage Bar (Impact Gauge): Your life gauge is made up of three bars. A RED one, a WHITE one, and, a GREEN one. Full GREEN means full health. When you are hit by your enemy, your GREEN bar will deplete revealing a WHITE bar that also depletes, but at a slower rate. If you manage to NOT get hit, the WHITE bar will begin to regenerate, and if you successfully land hits on your opponent, will regenerate even faster. (Be warned, this also applies to your opponent, so keep a close eye on BOTH Damage Bars). Once all the GREEN is gone, so is your life. This aspect was added to make gameplay more challenging and longer lasting. For example, you can't jump in, land a few hits on your opponent then hightail it to the other side of the screen, because your opponents WHITE life bar will begin to regenerate! This means you have to use strategy and combos to do any real damage. Special Gauge: As you dish out damage (or take it), a gauge on the bottom of the screen will rapidly fill up. As it fills up, the number in the corner will increase by one. When the special gauge is full, you can perform either an ES-Special, or an EX- special. The special gauge can build up to a maximum of nine specials. Keep in mind that some specials require more than one special bar. Specials: There are two different types of specials in this game: ES-Specials: This is an enhanced version of a special move. Perform this the same way you would for a special move but press two buttons instead of one (example, instead of QCF+AP, do a QCF+2P). This move usually delivers more hits and lasts longer. EX-Specials: This is a move that is not an enhanced version of an already existing move. It uses a special gauge (or gauges) to perform a specialized attack. There are no other attacks like them. These are very powerful attacks and are very unique. Most of the movements require a specific series of button/controller taps (i.e., WP, WP, F, WK, SP). These moves usually take longer to perform, and if blocked, leave you open for a longer amount of time. Also, some of the EX-Specials require you to be a specific distance from your opponent to be performed correctly. Ground Attacks: When an opponent is on the ground, press U and AP or AK. This will add more hits while the opponent is down, but must be performed VERY quickly. This can also be incorporated into an ES Ground Attack, by pressing U and 2P or 2K, causing more damage, but using a special bar. Combo System: This is a chain attack style system done by pressing normal punches and kicks sequentially from weak to strong. You can go from the same strength from punch to kick (example, WP to WK), you may go from weak to strong in any path (example, WP, MK, SP, or WK, MP, SP, etc.), or a combination of both (example, WP, MP, MK, SP). The combo system will either 1: move downward from the same strength from punch to kick and then moving to the right, 2: move from left to right, or a combination of both, BUT the combo system does not work from strong to weak. The procession is always from leftmost (weak) to rightmost (strong). ---------- 4. Basic Strategy Attack: Weak Punch: A quick jab that delivers little damage, but is easy to start combos with. Medium Punch: A slightly stronger straight punch. Strong Punch: A powerful punch that does more damage, but has a longer recovery time. Weak Kick: A short range kick, that does little damage, but is also good for starting combos. Medium Kick: A (usually straight) kick that does decent damage. Strong Kick: A longer range Kick that does the most damage of the three kicks, but is also one of the attacks with a long recovery time. Dashing: Press F twice quickly or B twice quickly. Some characters can dash in the air. Throwing/Grabbing: Press F and SP or SK to throw an opponent. You have to be very close to the opponent to perform this move. Some characters have throws in the air. Also, most characters have a special grab done by a HCB+SP or HCB+SK. Blocking: There are three blocks. There is a low block by holding DB on the controller which is used for stopping crouching/low attacks. A medium or high block is simply done by holding B on the controller and is used for standing attacks and jumping attacks. You can also block in the air. When in the air, hold B while in the air to block an attack. ---------- 5: Advanced Strategy: Getting Up: When you hit the ground, after you are knocked off your feet, tap either F or B quickly and any button to move out of harm's way. Guard Reversal: A move that reverses your opponents attack. This has to be done PRECISELY AND EXTREMELY QUICKLY. You have 1/16th of a second to perform this move. At the exact moment your opponent connects with you, do a DP motion and AP or AK, or 2P or 2K (for ES-Specials). This motion is the same for every character. Guard Crush: A move that when performed, pushes the opponent away from you. While blocking, press punch or kick. Even if the hit does not connect you are pushed away from your opponent and you will recover more quickly. Tech Hit: For the guard crush, it counts as a technical hit. In other words, if the guard crush did not work, it would technically be a hit. You can tech hit out of throws as well by pushing B and SP or SK from an opponent's throw as they are throwing you. Dark Force: By pressing a punch or kick button of the same strength together (and you must have at least one level of special bar energy), you can go into a move called a "Dark Force". When you go into Dark Force you are invincible for a brief second. During the time you are in Dark Force, your character is slightly stronger, and you will have enhanced attacks depending on your character. You can only remain in Dark Force for a limited time. This time is shown in a meter under your life gauge. Your opponent can counter a Dark Force with a Dark Force of his or her own. Some characters have more than one Dark Force move, hence the option to choose DF1 or DF2 in the controller options menu. ---------- 6. GOODIES AND SECRETS: When some characters meet each other, their opening animation will be different. Try playing as: Zabel vs. Lei-Lei & Zabel vs. Buletta On a side note, there is a different final boss for each character that you play. (i.e., Lilith's final boss is Morrigan, whereas Donovan's final boss is Jedah and so on). Taunting: If you set the L OR R buttons on your controller to "Friendship", you can taunt your opponent. However, you can only taunt a limited amount of times. Most characters have at least one taunt, with some characters having four to five different taunts! Some taunts will actually hit the opponent and cause a very, very, small amount of damage (like Victor's nose pick taunt). Colors: All characters have eight different colors you can choose. You choose colors by pressing A, B, C, X, Y or Z. The other colors are achieved by pressing X+Y+Z together (For their "light color") or A+B+C together (For their "dark color"). Win Poses/Final Attacks: All characters have a win pose that you can choose by simply holding down any button as you win a match. Some characters will do added things in a win pose. Example, as Jedah, you can defeat your opponent and slice them in half by holding down MK. Also some characters can slice an opponent in half as the final move. Jedah and Bishamon can slice a character in half (Bishamon also has special win poses if he splits someone in half!), and Gallon can slice someone in half lengthwise by using the Moment Slice: (WP, MP, F, WK, MK) as a final move! EX-Options Menu: To enter the EX-Options, you must beat the game, on any difficulty, without continuing. Then when you return to the title screen, simply hold L+R and press START while highlighting the OPTIONS. EX-Options: VS MODE PLAYER 1 or 2: Human or CPU 1P/2P S.S. Gauge: Set special gauge to start at a certain number. From 00 (default) to 90 specials! VS MODE I.D. GUAGE: Default is recover. COCKPIT POSITION: Sets the height for the energy bars. ENDING: See any ending for a character you've already beaten the game with. LANGUAGE: Japanese (default) to English. NOTE: In English mode some backgrounds are censored, all blood is white and the names are changed to their American counterparts. CLEAR DATA: Erase all data that's been saved. A/V OUTPUT: S/VIDEO or RGB Mid-Boss: To meet a mid-boss in your game you must win three matches with an EX-Special move without losing any of your bat icons. Fight Oboro Bishamon: To fight against this character you have to choose a WP, MP, or SP color for first player, or a WK, MK, or SK color if you are second player. Beat the game without losing ANY bat icons, and use at least THREE EX-Super Finishes during your game. Then when you meet your final opponent make sure and finish him/her with the same EX-Super you were given in Vampire (Darkstalkers), or, for the new characters, it is usually the most difficult super to perform. If done correctly Oboro Bishamon will challenge you. (He is EXTREMELY hard to best!!) Play D.Gallon: To play as D.Gallon move your cursor on him at the character select screen, then hold the L Button and press all three punches. If done correctly, Gallon will start to flash. Play Oboro Bishamon: To play as Oboro Bishamon you first have to beat him in the Arcade mode. Then when you return to the character select screen, move your cursor to Bishamon, hold L button and press all three punch buttons. Play as Shadow: At the character select screen highlight the question mark, then press both the L and R buttons at the same time FIVE times, holding the buttons on the FIFTH press, now press all three punch buttons. If this was done right, you will see a spooky shadow rise up behind the character you chose. Speed Up the Credits: To speed up the ending credits just push any button! Vampires Voice: To hear the computer say "Vampire" just reset the game by pressing A+B+C+START together. ---------- Well, what do you think? Let us know!
