Special Thanks and Contributors I. INTRODUCTION The strip mahjong genre has gained massive popularity in Japan. In every game center there are plenty of machines and sections just for playing this type of game. No other console system has more mahjong games than the Sega Saturn. For many non-Asians mahjong can be a bit confusing. Although this FAQ is made for Super Real Mahjong P 7, the Mahjong Rules and Basics section can be used for any 2 Player Mahjong game. If you have any further questions or know something I don’t please e-mail me at hq9@juno.com. II. WHAT IS THIS GAME? Super Real Mahjong P 7 (P VII) is the seventh installment of the most popular mahjong series Super Real Mahjong (SRMJ), by Seta, which debuted in the mid eighties. P VII came out in the arcades in 1997. Each sequel has always outdone the previous original, and P VII is no exception. Seta utilized a new story mode, in which you now choose the story, which affects the order of play, story line (obviously), and ending. The Sega Saturn version of PVII came out in Japan on May 21, 1998. It is based on the arcade version, however there are some favorable and unfavorable changes. First the bad, Sega has put a ban on nudity among its recent titles, therefore, in PVII, the girls’ strip down only to their underwear and it stops there. And no, they don’t strip fully even on the hardest level, believe me I have tried. Some new good features are brand new animated endings, a new story for the maid Etsuko, Quiz Mode, and Graphics mode. P VII is also compatible with the 4-Meg Ram Cartridge so if you utilize this cartridge, loading time is virtually non existent. Some would say the game looses its original charm, hey what’s the use of a stripping game if they don’t take it all off? I feel all the extras added to this game and zero loading time beat out seeing animated girls naked, maybe :P. I have been a big fan of this series, for about two years. SRMJ P6 got me initially into this genre of games. I was really out to get Tamami. I currently own SRMJ 2-7, I always wonder how part 1 looked like. III. BACKGROUND STORIES You are the Hero in the story and play strip mahjong against three girls; the order of play depends on which story you choose. Each story has a different reason for why you are at the Asahina Sister’s villa for the summer. The villa is very grand. There is an onsen (hot springs), tennis court, swimming pool, and even a private beach. Your goal is to beat the girls at mahjong, pretty simple enough. Yurina Asahina’s Story It’s the Summer! It’s a Villa! This is Mahjong! Yurina’s fluttering love motion. Yurina, the younger of the two beautiful Asahina sisters, invites you over to the villa to play some mahjong. You met Yurina through your part time job at the teahouse. Yurina has deep feelings for you. Order of play - Natsuki, Serika, Yurina. Natsuki Asahina’s Story Rival Classmates? Natsuki’s Mahjong Fight! Natsuki, the older of the Asahina sisters, challenges you to a mahjong showdown at her villa. Natsuki is your classmate and is very competitive. She hears that you are the best in the school and wants to put your skills to the test. Natsuki has some hidden feelings for you. Order of play - Serika, Yurina, Natsuki Serika Randou’s Story Memories of Summer. Serika-sensei’s wonderful lesson. Serika is the Asahina sister’s Mahjong teacher. Serika thinks its fun to invite people over to the Asahina villa to play some mahjong. She invites you over to give the Asahina sisters a male challenger. Order of play Yurina, Natsuki, Serika Etsuko Toyohara’s Story The afternoon job is Cleaning and Mahjong? Rescue poor Etsuko! Etsuko’s story is a bonus. Etsuko is the maid and caretaker of the villa. You are at the villa to play Natsuki, Yurina, and Serika. Etsuko is free and you ask her to play a game of Mahjong. Order of play – You can play Etsuko every time after completing a story, but won’t see her full ending animation until playing her again after beating all three stories. IV. GAMEPLAY Well basically you play 2-player mahjong. And after X amount of Tsu Mo's and Ron’s you win, the girl strips down and you move on to the next one. During the game when you can "Richi" the game will tell you what tile(s) you need to go out. This is a new feature not found in any of its predecessors. There are also no power ups like Suchie Sticks, or super Crystals, or pop up windows which tell you which tile to can be used, found in other popular Strip Mahjong titles, namely the Final Romance and Suchie Pai series. Without auto detectors a beginner can find this game way too hard. Therefore, I recommend this game to intermediate and advanced mahjong players only. There is a Gohuobi mode which allows you to view all the beautiful animation sequences after attaining them. V. MAHJONG RULES AND BASICS These rules can be applied to any 2-player mahjong games out there. Types of tiles The Won Tiles - these are marked with Kanji from 1-9. The tile 5 is old Chinese The Bamboo Tiles - these are green with bamboo sticks displaying 1-9 and a picture of a bird for 1. The Ball tiles - there are colorful tiles with balls displaying 1-9. The Color Tiles - these consist of 4 Red Letter tiles or Red Dragon Tiles, 4 blank tiles, and 4 Green Letter or Green Dragon Tiles. The Wind Tiles - these consist of the 4 directional winds kanji for North, South, East, and West. Game Objective At first you will roll a dice, the dice roll designates who is in the "East seat" which starts the game. You start off with 13 tiles and pick up one to either play or discard. The object of the game is to create a combination of 5 sets which include four 3 of a kind sets, or 3 consecutive tile sets, a combination of both, and one pair of tiles, ending with 14 tiles. A three consecutive set has to be of the same tiles. For example Won tiles 1,2,3 make a set, however Won tile 1, 2, and Bamboo tile 3 doesn’t work. However, there are advanced techniques and other methods of racking up points that don't follow this main objective. For example you can also win by collecting 7 sets of pairs. Or getting a weird combination of specific tiles. Refer to your manual for these types of scoring. Which can best described with pictures. Special Terms During game play the following terms will show up. Pon = You can call "Pon" if your opponent throws out a tile which you can use to create a set of three of a kind. Chi = You can call "Chi" if your opponent throws out a tile which you can use to create a set of three consecutive tiles. Kan = You can call "Kan" if your opponent throws out a tile which you can use to create a set of 4 of a kind. Richi = You can call "Richi" if you need one more tile and are about to win. A little stick is displayed on your set of tiles indicating your status. Tsumo = You call "Tsumo" if you obtain your winning piece and complete your sets with your out pile. Ron = You can call "Ron" if your opponent throws out a tile which will complete your set and win. Tempai = Tempai is called if you needed one more tile to win, but ran out of tiles. 1500 points. Nootin = Nootin is called when you needed to or more tiles to win, but ran out of tiles. VI. CHARACTER PROFILES Each of the four characters are unique in personality. Though, this doesn’t affect the game outcome. Its nice to know what type of person you are up against. I really think Seta should consider using all their characters from previous SRMJ games and make a dating game out of it. Funny how I wish there was a Pia Carrot Strip Mahjong Game as well. I’m never satisfied :P! QUIZ MODE, GOUHOBI, and OTHER PRESENTS There are many bonuses available for this game, which are nice omake features. Gohoubi option allows you to view the FMV sequences that you attained through victory. I think every strip mahjong game should have this option available. You must go though every story to get every animation sequence available. The quiz mode asks questions about the introduction and some SRMJ trivia. These are generally very easy like what was Yurina riding in the intro? a bike, a car, or a train. But if you are a moron you can keep guessing A, B, or C and will eventually win. After successfully answering a question, a beautiful picture is rewarded. There is also a graphical mode, which shows character sketches, backgrounds, and some other interesting pictures. Some other presents include a Kissakae set and animation cel. VIII. SPECIAL THANKS AND CONTRIBUTORS Special Thanks to my bud Kinoshita Shigehito for teaching me how to play mahjong.
