SHINING FORCE III SCENARIO 3 GUIDE v1.2 by David Bowie ( DragoonMaster77@hotmail.com ) Feel free to send any comments, questions or additional facts. Note: This document is best viewed in WordPad Initial Release: 05-14-2002 Last Update: 05-23-2002 Update history: version 1.2 - correction of small mistakes and format CONTENT 1) --- Introduction 2) --- Characters 3) --- Walkthrough 4) --- Enemy Specials and Attacks 5) --- Status Ailments and Cures 6) --- Synchronity 7) --- Misc. and Secrets 8) --- Thanks and Disclaimer 1) Introduction This guide is dedicated to Shining Force 3 Scenario 3, the final part of Sega's great Shining Force 3 trilogy on the Sega Saturn. Despite of being in Japanese, this game plays very fluently, even more if you played one of the prequels on Genesis/Mega Drive or the English translated Scenario 1. Based on my gaming experience with Scenarios 1 and 3 this document was compiled, providing one of the most complete walkthroughs, at least I hope it does, explaining the much fabled synchronity between the three scenarios in detail and pointing out some tidbits. I will mostly use the English equivalents of almost everything in the game, although I'm aware that Scenario 1 has quite a number of mistranslation, call it sentimal attachment. After the initial release I decided to put more sections into this guide so that it becomes more comprehensive, but I certainly won't make a weapon sections,so check out these these great websites, all of them offering high quality content: - http://www.jumesyn.net - http://shining.zophar.net/sfc - http://spiriel.nu/sforce - http://www.gamefaqs.com WARNING: Whenever the game creates a weird save (something like "yyyyy"), DO NOT touch this file. Just leave it where it is, if you delete it it could erase your saves on the memory card or overwrite the saves. It happened on my European Saturn with an adapter, when I tried to transfer the file onto the memory card it created this "yyyyy" file. When I deleted it, my other saves were gone as well, so just leave the file where it is. 2) Characters *Julian Male Swordsman Lv 5 P joining condition: none race: Human weapons: Knife, Sword, Rapier, For Taros use a high spark resistant character, but do never enter the pit. Use your archers and spellcasters to drain his 5000 HP (!) from afar, engage in close combat only when he is below 600 HP. *Without complete saves from the previous Scenarios, it is very hard to beat the Hero's Test due to shortage of characters, so as Medion you'd better tame some monsters with Papetts like Salamander, Arch Demon, Durahan. REMOTEST *Ask Benetram for advice and answer YES for last battles. *Note that the following battles must be fought immediately one after the other, meaning whenever you retreat from battle, you have to fight each battle again. If you kill her, the ending will be slightly different, see Section 7 for more information. *Place two of your characters on the monster spots to prevent the Demon Knights from reappearing. *Bulzome has 2400 HP, two turns per round and regenerates 30 HP after each move. He attacks with a summon and the dark-elemental spell "Demon Breath". 4) Enemy Specials and Attacks *This section lists the enemies' special attacks, additional effects caused by a special are in [ ]. Note that I didn't list the obvious effects of "Poison Attack" (poisons), "Paralyze Attack" (paralyzes) or "Slow Attack" (lowers defense and agility). I listedthe enemies in the chapters they initially appear in, still they can be in other chapters, too. "Counter" indicates an enemy that seems to pull of counter attacks more often than other enemies. The decisions you made in the previous scenario affect the current game, giving you new charas, bonus items or altering some battles and carrying over your old characters. Note that if you want to take full advantage of the synchronity between the Scenarios, you will need all three Scenario and play them one after another. Sega did this on purpose, only if someone bought all three Scenarios you were sure to experience the whole game. Synchronity can work between Scenario 1 and 2 and 3, just between 1 and 2, 1 and 3 or 2 and 3. The Scenario 1 saves from the European and US version are compatible with the Japanese versions of Scenarios 2 and 3, so no problem linking the games. If you never played a Scenario, the game assumes that you never met certain characters in this Scenario and so you'll be missing some characters in Scen3 when playing without Complete save. *Synchronity affecting charaters: Scenario 1 force: Synbios, Dantares, Masqurin, Grace, Obright, Cybel, Eldar, Kahn, Murasame, Fynnding. If you don't play Scen 3 without Complete save from Scen 1, these will be your characters. In this case all of them are P level 17 equipped with the weapons from Dormant, weapon skill level is 3 for their initially equipped weapon. If you play with a Complete save from Scen1, you'll have all characters you found at exactly the same level and equipment at the end of Scen1. Scenario 2 force: Medion, Campbell, Syntesis, Uryudo, Zero, David, Jade. If you don't play Scen 3 without Complete save from Scen 2, these will be your charas. You may have Garosh instead of Jade on you team if play with a Complete save from Scen1 in which you saved Garosh. In this case all of them are P level 17 equipped with the weapons from the Flagship on ice, weapon skill level is 3 for their initially equipped weapon. If you play with a Complete save from Scen2, you'll have all characters you found at exactly the same level and equipment from the end of Scen2. Garosh: Talk to him during the second battle of Scen1 on the Saraband pier to make him available for Scen2, where he joins Medion in chapter 5. If you let him die in Scen1, Jade will join in chapter 5. Barnard: Untie him in Scen1 chapter 1 in the Balsamo inn after you visited the Bulzome High Priests. He will then be in Scen2 in Dusty Village and joins Medion. If you don't untie him, he'll not be there. Rogan: Get the Ship Key from Fiale in Scen1, chapter 4 and Zero uses this later in Scen2 to free Rogan from the sinking Sea Gate. In chapter 5 he joins as NPC and protects Domaric as bodyguard. If you don't get the key, he'll drown. Jade: Play Scen2 without Complete save or let Garosh die in Scen1 to have Jade join Medion in Scen2, chapter 5. Note that you can't have both, it's either Garosh or Jade. Julian: He joins in Scen1 chapter 2 at level 4, in Scen2 chapter 3 at level 9 and is the hero in Scen3 at P level 5. If you play with Complete saves, he'll be the level he was when he left the force in the previous Scenarios. Donhort: He joins in Scen2 chapter 3 at P level 2 and in Scen3 starts at P level 5. If you play with a Complete save, he'll be the level he was when he left in Scen2. Edmund: Play Scen3 without Complete save or kill Produn's girlfriend Stella in Scen2 chapter 2 to have Edmund on your force at the start of Scen3, but you won't be able to have Produn join your force. Isabella: If you play Scen3 without Complete save or killed Stella in Scen2, Isabella will join you in Scen3 chapter 3 at P level 11. If you spared Stella in Scen2, she joins in Scen3 chapter 2 at P level 7. Regardless of when she joins, she's equipped with a Saint Ankh at weapon skill level 1. Produn: Play with a Scen2 save in which you spared Stella in chapter 2, then Produn may join in Scen3 chapter 3, but you won't have Edmund. If you play without Complete save or you killed Stella in Scen2, there's no way to have Produn. Note that you can't have both, it's either Edmund or Produn. Pendolf: Hatch Pen in Scen1 and Penko in Scen2 and have them join you. This make Pendolf available in Scen3 chapter 4 in Aspia. If you play without Complete saves Pendolf won't be an available character. Spiriel: If you don't kill her in Scen1 chapter 6 in the catacombs, try to put her to sleep, she joins in Scen3 chapter 4. If you kill her in Scen1 or play or play without Complete save she won't be an available character. Pappetts: If he didn't join you in Scen2 chapter 6 or if you play without Complete save, Pappetts is an available character in Scen3 final chapter, where he may join Medion at P level 17 equipped with a Queen Whip at weapon skill level 3. *Synchronity affecting searchables: Saraband: If you found the Large Mithril, Healing Drop, Potion and 10 gold coins in the Republican District and the Health Bread and Medical Herb in the Central District in Scen1 chapter 1, these items won't be available in Scen2. If you play without Complete save or left any of these item, they'll be still there. Balsamo: If you found the Brain Food, Large Mithril, Power Wine, Potion, 5 gold coins, 10 gold coins, Medical Herb, Ruins Map in Scen1 chapter 1, these items won't be available in Scen2. If you play without Complete save or left any of these item, they'll be still there. Storich: If you found the two Large Mithrils, the Armor Milk and the Small Mithril in Scen1 chapter 4, these items won't be available in Scen2. If you play without Complete save or left any of these item, they'll be still there. Aspia: If you found a Large Mithril and the Small Mithril in Scen1 chapter 4, these items won't be available in Scen3. If you play without Complete save or left any of these item, they'll be still there. *Synchronity affecting battles: Scenario 2, Chapter 5: In battle 23, Jade will be the boss if you have Garosh on your team. If Jade joined your force, the boss will be a Hill Giant. Scenario 2, Chapter 6: In battle 26, if you killed the Baby Dragon in Scen1 chapter 4, there will be an Ark Dragon. Additionally, you won't have access to two weapons in the cave. If you didn't kill the Baby Dragon in Scen1 or play without Complete save, the Ark Dragon will never appear and you may get the weapons. Scenario 2, Chapter 6: In the final battle the reserve troops from Scen1 which you sent to the dam are fighting against you. If you didn't find enough characters in Scen1 (i.e. seven in reserve), the missing ones will be replaced by regular enemies. Scenario 3, Chapter 3: If you don't have Edmund on your team, the Mask Monk in battle 11 will be holding Stella as hostage. There'll also be variations in the number of enemies. Kill the Mask Monk with your fliers to free Stella and have Produn join your force. Scenario 3, Chapter 3: If you don't have Edmud on your team, Edmund will be a boss in battle 12. There's no way to have him to join then, but you may spare him. Scenario 3, Chapter 6: In battle 24, if the number of Synbios' force plus Yasha is below 12, the missing members will be replaced by Master Ninjas. Note that Synbios, Kahn and Fynnding never fight in this battle. Scenario 3, Chapter 6: In battle 26, if the number of Medion's force is below 12, the missing members will be replaced by Blue Clerics. Scenario 3, Final Chapter: In battle 30, if the numbers of Synbios' or Medion's force are below 12, the Great Priests may send some of their minions to assist Basanda in the fight against Julian's force. *Synchronity affecting items: Silver Ring in Saraband: If Garosh was killed in Scen1, speak with the boy in the Saraband guard headquarters and he'll give Synbios this ring in chapter 1. If you saved Garosh, Medion will receive this ring in chapter 1 from the same boy. Dragon Rod, Macho Maul in Volcano Cave: If you didn't kill the Baby Dragon in Scen1, a secret room will be available in Scen2 chapter 6, containing two chests with a Dragon Rod and a Macho Maul. Justice Sword in Aspia: If you saved all five refuggees in Scen1 chapter 2, you'll be presented with a Justice Sword in Scen3 chapter 4. *Synchronity affecting Misc.: Arthur, Val and Rock: These three can be found in Scen1, yet their artwork has to be added. In Saraband you can find a blond centaur (Arthur), Val and Rock are the two hurt Destonian soldiers in one of Balsamo's headquarters. The bookshelf with the character infos in HQ lists the characters accordingly to your actions. If you give Julian items before he leaves in Scen1 or Scen2, you may give him some valuable items which will be carried over to the new Scenario. Between Scen1 and 2, these items will appear in your HQ again, i.e. you duplicated them. Deals and the storage in your HQ are NOT affected by Synchronity. Deals left in the shop's display aren't carried over to the current Scenario, same goes for items left in HQ's storage. 7) Misc. and Secrets *Whenever the game creates a weird save (something like "yyyyy"), DO NOT touch this file. Just leave it where it is, if you delete it it could erase your saves on the memory card or overwrite the saves. It happened on my European Saturn with an adapter, when I tried to transfer the file on the memory card it created this "yyyyy" file. When I deleted it, my other saves were gone as well, so just leave the file where it is. *To play with a Complete save from a previous Scenario on your current Scenario, copy the Complete save in the directory you wish to save Scenario 3 in. If you are using an import adapter that needs to be placed in the cartridge slot of your Saturn, this directory will be the Saturn's Internal Ram. Now start a new game with the new Scenario, when you're asked a question by the wizard answer YES, then the game starts. You can save by selecting "Save" in the church or on battlefield (option on bottom), answer Yes to the first and No to the second question, which brings up a new menu, here select Erase (option on bottom) and delete the save from your other Scenario, then select Save (upper option). Now you play a linked game and save your progress. This process is so complicated due to the file size of the saves: Scen 1 takes 203 and Scen 3 381 blocks of Ram and since there's only 461 blocks in the internal Saturn Ram you can only save one game. Beware that this also holds true for transferring this file on a memory card, since there's only one "Scen 3 File 1", you can only overwite your old save. If you are using some kind of cheat module like Action Replay, you avoid this problem by saving on the cheat module's built in Ram. *During the battle animations you can switch between two different camera angles via the X and Y buttons (not in Scenario 1). You may also remove the health display by holding the Start button during these scenes (all three Scenarios). *In any town in Scenarios 2 and 3 you can view a compass by pressing the Z button. The arrow points to the selected location, other locations in this town can be selected by pressing the Z button again...Too bad it is in Japanese. *After a soft Reset (press A+B+C+Start) you can quickly resume from your last save by holding the Start button after the Reset (not in Scenario 1). *After the ending credits wait some time at the "The End" screen. You will witness a conversation between Galm and Elize (from "Shining the Holy Ark"), in which she congratulates the vandal because everything has happened according to his plans. It turns out that Galm has been manipulating Julian, i.e. saving him (and Edmund) when both were thrown into the Barrand waterfalls in Scenario 1. Even murdering Julian's father (in "Shining the Holy Ark", remember that little boy in Enrich looking for his father ?) was part of the plan to get rid of Bulzome and stop the revival of the 1000 year kingdom. *The ending cinema may differ depending on your actions during the final battle, i.e. if you casted Gracia's Blessing on the glowing capsule Jane is trapped in or not. If you cast the spell, Jane will join you for the last battle as a NPC and she will be available for the Premium Disc. In the ending cinema she then accompanies Julian to the Holy Ark... If you didn't cast Blessing on the capsule, she will be an opponent, later Julian will move on alone. *If you save your game at the end of this scenario, you'll get a save that can be used with the Premium Disc OR you start a new game on this scenario with this new file. You now play Scen 3 with characters that have monster stats compared to the enemies, but still you get full experience for the enemies...use this to build an undefeatable force with massive stats. This trick may be repeated over and over again, but note that the stats for Luck and Movement can't be boosted further than 9. *To obtain special items and weapons from the shops, repeatedly talk to the shopkeeper. After some tries you'll be offered special equipment or items. More info on this can be found in my Special Deals FAQ on Gamefaqs. *Funny coincidence that Harold and Spiriel have the same artwork. No coincidence that Jane and Bulzome High Priest Dessheren are sisters, Basanda and Braff are mother and son, the penguins Pen and Penko are parents of a penguin family, Unoma and Irene are sensei and student, Eldar and Zero are brother and sister... Some other funny things are the sprites of David (bodybuilder) and Unoma (eating noodles) in HQ. Not so funny are some of the character portraits in Innovator class, like Edmund, Fynnding or Dantares...good that these were changed for the Premium Disc. *When meeting a character the first time, the colour of the name stands for the character's gender. a blue name denotes male, a pink female and grey stands for Vandals. But the penguins' names are shown in orange and Turk's name is in yellow...strange... *Naming trouble...why do all Mask Monks have the same name...Mask Monk Mage or Mask Monk Cleric would make things easier sometimes, especially when writing a FAQ. Thanks god a lot of enemies already appeared in english Scen 1... *You can read descriptions of every character in the game by searching the shelf in HQs. *If you're playing with Complete save, unequip your force before killing the last boss. Thus, the battles against Synbios' and Medion's force in Scen3 become a lot easier. 8) Thanks and Disclaimer To make this guide more comprehensive, feel free to send any comments, questions, corrections or additional facts to DragoonMaster77@hotmail.com I would like to thank: - Joe Negron for his great FAQ for this game which helped a lot with item locations.
