The Unofficial Saturn FAQ Version 2.01 (03/13/03) Written/Compiled by Chakan (see credits for more info) (c)1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 ***************** Table of Contents ***************** - Wait for it... *************** X. Introduction *************** Welcome to the Unofficial Saturn FAQ. In this FAQ you'll find all of the information you need to even think about the Sega Saturn. Well, at least it'd be cool to be that complete, until then let's say you'll find almost all of the information available relating to the Sega Saturn. This FAQ is pretty much a work in progress, so I'm always open to suggestions, just email me at chakan@classicgaming.com. The USFAQ grew out of the domestic and import game list I was working on for a Saturn website I was building (if you want to see it and check for the latest version of this FAQ, then look in the credits section for the address). When I first started hunting for Saturn information, I found that most of the resources were outdated or just containd the same info I found everywhere else. The true information was scattered about the web. So I decided I'd start this FAQ to help compile all of the information available on the Saturn, and to add some new stuff to the pool as well. =-=Update=-= At the time I began, John hadn't released his Saturn FAQ, which is a Great resource and about 97% accurate. I let this FAQ set for a good, long time after the release of John's, but have since decided to continue working on this in my free time. For the next few updates, I'll be concentrating on re-organizing this FAQ and focusing on a more unique approach. There's some great resources that've popped up in the past few years that make my small information on some specific subjects look, well, really small and useless. So, to summarize, it's going to be a time of self-examination and change. Hope you guys like what's going to come of it... As of this version (2.0), I have to decided to focus entirely on a few items that are not covered either completely or accurately in other Saturn FAQs available on the internet. There is no need for multiple sources when there's tons of great stuff available. *********** X. Changes *********** version 2.01 (03/13/03) -Added some more of my import recommendations. -Updated the description for Dave's Saturn site in the links. -Updated some general contact information. -I must've incorrectly typed 2302 instead of 2032, as intended. Corrected. -I'm drafting up some general technical questions that are often asked on my forum and at other places on the net. Look for these to be included in the next updated. version 2.0 (10/20/02) -I've started over. Lots of stuff has been completely trashed. Thank me, as I'm just saving you time reading stuff you should already know. Coming soon: -Ripping, converting country codes, and burning Saturn games. -I'll add my Saturn Swap Trick guide that I wrote anonymously over 2 years ago... -More Troubleshooting! ************* X. Games List ************* This is my favorite part, the games lists. The first section is a listing of almost every game released in the US. If you think you know of any corrections that need to be made, please email me at chakan@classicgaming.com. If you email me telling me that Return Fire was released for the US Sega Saturn then you will be listed in a new section of the FAQ that will list such fools. :P A. US Releases Note: This list is taken entirely from my friend Will Shaffer's list of US Saturn releases. This list is DAMN accurate and don't think otherwise. Each game is listed in alphabetical order. It will be updated by myself if anyone ever releases a homebrew game or something of that nature. There are approximately 245 US Saturn games as of this time. 001 - 3D Baseball 002 - Albert Odyssey: The Legend of Eldean 003 - Alien Trilogy 004 - All-Star Baseball 005 - Alone in the Dark: One-Eyed Jack's Revenge 006 - A.M.O.K. 007 - Andretti Racing 008 - Arcade's Greatest Hits: Atari 009 - Arcade's Greatest Hits: Williams 010 - Area 51 011 - Astal 012 - Baku Baku 013 - Bases Loaded '96 014 - Batman Forever: The Arcade Game 015 - Battle Arena Toshinden Remix 016 - Battle Arena Toshinden Ultimate Revenge Attack 017 - Battle Monsters 018 - Battle Stations 019 - Battlesport 020 - Black Dawn 021 - Black Fire 022 - Blast Chamber 023 - Blazing Dragons 024 - Blazing Heroes 025 - Braindead 13 026 - Breakpoint Tennis 027 - Bubble Bobble: Featuring Rainbow Islands 028 - Bug! 029 - Bug Too! 030 - Burning Rangers 031 - Bust-A-Move-2: Arcade Edition 032 - Bust-A-Move-3 033 - Casper 034 - Center Ring Boxing 035 - Clockwork Knight 036 - Clockwork Knight 2 037 - College Slam 038 - Command and Conquer 039 - Congo 040 - Contra: Legacy of War 041 - Corpse Killer 042 - Courier Crisis 043 - Creature Shock 044 - Crime Wave 045 - Criticom 046 - Croc: Legend of the Gobbos 047 - Crow: City of Angels 048 - Crusader: No Remorse 049 - Crypt Killer 050 - Cyber Speedway 051 - Cyberia 052 - D 053 - Darius Gaiden 054 - Dark Legend 055 - Dark Savior 056 - Darklight Conflict 057 - Daytona USA 058 - Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition 059 - Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Netlink Edition 060 - Decathlete 061 - Defcon 5 062 - Die Hard Arcade 063 - Die Hard Trilogy 064 - Doom 065 - Double Switch 066 - Dragon Force 067 - Dragon Heart: Fire and Steel 068 - Duke Nuke'm 3D 069 - Earthworm Jim 2 070 - Enemy Zero 071 - F1 Challenge 072 - FIFA Soccer '96 073 - FIFA Soccer '97 074 - FIFA World Cup Soccer '98 075 - Fighters Megamix 076 - Fighting Vipers 077 - Frank Thomas' Big Hurt Baseball 078 - Galactic Attack 079 - Galaxy Fight 080 - Gex 081 - Ghen War 082 - Golden Axe: The Duel 083 - Grand Slam '96 084 - Grid Runner 085 - Guardian Heroes 086 - Gun Griffon 087 - Hang-On GP 088 - Heir of Zendor 089 - Herc's Adventures 090 - Hexen 091 - Hi-Octane 092 - Hi Velocity 093 - Highway 2000 094 - Horde, The 095 - House of the Dead, The 096 - Hyper 3D Pinball 097 - Impact Racing 098 - In the Hunt 099 - Incredible Hulk, The 100 - Independence Day 101 - Iron Man/X-O Man-O-War: Heavy Metal 102 - Iron Storm 103 - John Madden '97 104 - John Madden '98 105 - Johnny Bazookatone 106 - Last Bronx 107 - Last Gladiators: Digital Pinball 108 - Legend of Oasis 109 - Loaded 110 - Lost World, The: Jurassic Park 2 111 - Lunacy 112 - Machinehead 113 - Magic Carpet 114 - Magic Knight Rayearth 115 - Mansion of the Hidden Souls 116 - Manx TT Superbike 117 - Marvel Super Heroes 118 - Mass Destruction 119 - Maximum Force 120 - Mech Warrior II 121 - Megaman 8: Anniversary Collector's Edition 122 - Megaman X4 123 - MLBPA: Bottom of the Ninth 124 - Minnesota Fats Pool Legend 125 - Mortal Kombat II 126 - Mortal Kombat Trilogy 127 - Mr. Bones 128 - Myst 129 - Mystaria: The Realms of Lore 130 - Nascar '98 131 - NBA Action 132 - NBA Action '98 133 - NBA Jam Extreme 134 - NBA Jam Tournament Edition 135 - NBA Live '97 136 - NBA Live '98 137 - Need For Speed, The 138 - NFL '97 139 - NFL Quarterback Club '96 140 - NFL Quarterback Club '97 141 - NHL '97 142 - NHL '98 143 - NHL All-Star Hockey 144 - NHL All-Star Hockey '98 145 - NHL Break-Away '96 146 - NiGHTS into Dreams... 147 - Nightwarriors: Darkstalker's Revenge 148 - Norse by Norsewest: The Lost Vikings 2 149 - Off-World Interceptor Extreme 150 - Olympic Soccer 151 - Pandemonium 152 - Panzer Dragoon 153 - Panzer Dragoon II Zwei 154 - Panzer Dragoon Saga 155 - Pebble Beach Golf 156 - PGA Tour '97 157 - Powerslave 158 - Primal Rage 159 - Pro Pinball 160 - P.T.O. Chakan's EU and JP Recommendations Below are a listing of games that English-speaking people can import and play without much hassle, sorted by genre. ACTION/PLATFORMER Bulk Slash Princess Crown Silhouette Mirage ADVENTURE Deep Fear (E) Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight FIGHTING Capcom Generations 5 Street Fighter Zero 3 SHOOTER Capcom Generations 2 Do Donpachi Radiant Silvergun Sol Divide Strikers 1945 II Thunder Force V For more information on EU or JP Saturn releases, see the following sites: SegaFans - http://www.classicgaming.com/saturn/ JapanGaming - http://www.classicgaming.com/japangaming/ ShinForce - http://www.shinforce.com/ See the "Saturn Sites" section for more addresses that might just have some more coverage. ******************* X. Myths & Legends ******************* This is where I shall dispel Saturn-related rumors that have been circulated, unfortunately, thanks to the great Interweb. -Return Fire exists! I saw it in a bargain bin... er, I mean my cousin did! Er... or was it that guy on USENet? ::Return Fire was never released for the Sega Saturn. It has NEVER been spotted by my eyes either A) on EBAY, B) on GameTZ, C) in anyone's personal collection up for trade, D) on a Saturn cover scans site, or E) anywhere else. This is a myth that needs to DIE! -Panzer Dragoon Saga/Radiant Silvergun are worth $150 because they're so damn rare! ::Actually, this is a matter of opinion, but I don't believe that ANYONE should be suckered into paying anymore for a game than they have to. Want to find PDS/RS for less? DO NOT LOOK ON EBAY. That's all I'll say on the matter for now... -You can play burn a Saturn game to a CD-R and play it thanks to a 4-in-1, GameShark, or X cartridge device! ::Nope. Some said devices will allow you to play games that were released for a different region Saturn, but none will allow you to play burned Saturn games. Sorry, kids. -You can play Saturn games on a 32X/Genesis/Sega CD combo! ::Nope, sorry. Sega was trying to add some compatibility at one time (or so the press releases said at first), but didn't end up doing so. -BUT I SAW RETURN FIRE LISTED ON SOME FAQ! ::DIE!!! ******************************* X. HELP! (Troubleshooting Fun!) ******************************* To be re-written entirely... For now: Q: My Saturn boots directly to the CD control panel. I don't have a cart in the cartridge slot, so what's wrong? Also, it looks the time and date are wrong now for some odd reason. HELP! A: This is a very, very common problem, littlee Joey. First, do one thing for me: MAKE SURE THERE'S NOT A FUCKING CARTRIDGE IN THE CART SLOT! Okay? Sorry for being so rude and vulgar, but some people just have horrible reading comprehension and don't check on things when you mention them... Like I said in the above paragraph, this is a very common problem, and one that's un-avoidable, unfornately. Your Saturn's internal memory has gone ka-put, and all of your system configuration data and game saves are now lost. Forever. Sorry, kid. Should've backed it up. To get your Saturn back in perfect working order, all you need to do is replace a XX-2032 battery. These are the same kind you find in watches and other electronic devices to store information. They die eventually and you have to replace them. You can get one for a few bucks at the local RadioShack. In case you were wondering about the X's... well, don't worry your pretty little head about the X's... ************************ X. Where Can I Find... ************************ So you just bought a Saturn and you are pretty much clueless as to where to find games, accesories, or cheat codes. Well, thanks to the internet, there are a variety of places to look for Saturn-related stuff. This listing is taken directly from my website, and will be updated whenever my website's listing is updated. If you've got a source, send it in! - http://www.sega-parts.com - Sega-Parts.com Supposedly an "authorized" Sega e-tailer. Whatever that means. Good place for cables and such if you can't find them elsewhere. - http://www.tototek.com - Tototek He's got interesting things... site's slow sometimes. Be patient. - http://www.videogamedepot.com - Video Game Depot Reliable to the bone. - http://www.gamechoice.com.hk - Game Choice - http://www.unitedgame.com - United Game - http://www.mcvans.com - McVans - http://www.usedgames.com/sega/saturn - Used Games - http://www.wolfgames.com - Wolfgames Private seller, but reliable. Has various import games. - http://www.vglq.com - VGLQ You can pick up some average titles here. - http://www.saturn-planet.com - Saturn Planet> (previously Saturn Direct) As for other resource, check out the fabulous GameTZ.com. It's a service that allows hundreds of gamers to list their collections, their want lists, and run searches for matches. Excellent. Then there's always Ebay... *************** X. Saturn Sites *************** The following is a listing of worthwhile Saturn sites to visit, listed in the order that I think of them. Heh. SegaFans - http://www.classicgaming.com/saturn/ My Sega site. Features exclusive videos, reviews, and more. You like it. It likes you! :) Sega-Saturn.com - http://www.sega-saturn.com Dave Z's site's a great resource! Nice guy after all. :) ShinForce - http://www.shinforce.com/ Shinobi's site is another excellent multi-platform Sega site like SF. Sega Saturn Magazine http://www.classicgaming.com/saturn/magazine/ Ryan N.'s great SS Magazine. SEE IT AT LEAST ONCE! This site has a very unique approach to covering Saturn games... Very in-depth. JapanGaming - http://www.classicgaming.com/japangaming/ Good source for some Saturn import game information. And, finally, for more Saturn (and other Sega-related) sites, hit up SegaPike ( http://www.classicgaming.com/saturn/segapike/ ), the web's one and only Sega search engine/web directory. ************* X.
