There will be many revisions, so bear with me. E-mail me at murdockl@hotmail.com to send me any comments, complaints, corrections, etc. ----- This FAQ is free of charge to anyone who wants it. If you wish to use this FAQ for any other use other than your personal use, please notify the author. ----- CONTENTS: 1. Introduction 2. Controls 3. Menu Translations 4. Gameplay 5. Japanese Notes 6. Characters 7. Important Events 8. Limited Walkthrough ----- NOTE: This game uses nearly 150 blocks per save on either your CARTRIDGE RAM or your INTERNAL RAM. This game also uses the 1 MEG RAM cart or the 4 MEG RAM cart for scenes involving animation. The use of these RAM carts is optional, but the use of the CARTRIDGE RAM is highly recommended. This game does not require that you know Japanese, but because of the sheer amount of Japanese in the game, it may be helpful if you are familiar with Hiragana, Katakana, and at least some 1st grade Kanji. This game is TWO disks, DISK 1 is the GAME disk, DISK 2 is the SPECIAL disk. ----- 1. INTRODUCTION Welcome to Pia Carrot 2 is part of a genre of games that we rarely see in America, the Simulation, specifically, the Dating Simulation. The basic premise is that, after your last semester of High School, you take a part-time job at the restaurant Pia Carrot as a Manager. Your major objective to have one of the young women meet up with you at the end of the game as a new love interest. 2. CONTROLS The controls are fairly straightforward: L BUTTON: Skip text. Not helpful if something flies by quickly before a decision point (check "Gameplay"). R BUTTON: Previous text. This is all the text up to the point that you are at in the game. Great to review what has happened up to that point. DIRECTIONAL PAD: Used to scroll though menu choices. X BUTTON: Remove text windows to see the pretty pictures. Y BUTTON: Brings up the Information Window. Z BUTTON: Speed up message speed. A BUTTON: Action Button. This button is the button you use to make all your decisions. B BUTTON: Cancel Button. This will take you back to the previous menu screen. Does not work on decision points. C BUTTON: Advance messages one text box at a time. ----- 3. MENU TRANSLATIONS ON DISK 1: You can only play the main game on this disk, so there is only one option, "Pia Carrot" if you are just beginning, otherwise, there are three options, from left to right: Saishokara: NEW GAME (begin a new game) Tsuzukikara: SAVE/LOAD DATA Mini Game: Play the mini games. This option will not be available until the Mini games open up in the MAIN GAME. ON DISK 2: Top Center: Gengashuu: Endings for the characters. This will only show up when you finish the game, and you get a happy ending with one of the young women. Bottom Left: Album: Character graphics from the game. Also not available until you have gone through the game. Bottom Right: Music: All the background music from the game. Available from the beginning. IN GAME TRANSLATIONS: Disk 1 Only: In your room at the dorm, you will have three areas on the screen with information: Upper LEFT: Your COMMANDS. There are two choices of commands: First choices: Kyuukei: REST (take a nap) Benkyou: STUDY Jogging: JOG Denwa: TELEPHONE Press right or left for the next command choices: Idou: MOVE (go to a different location) (see GAMEPLAY) Item: Use an ITEM. Data: Profiles on all the characters in the game. System: see below. SYSTEM MENU: SAVE: Save your game. LOAD: Load a game. Message Settei: Change message speeds. Jidouokuri Settei: ? Key Repeat Settei: Sets how often a button tap registers in the game. Volume Settei: Set volume levels for Music, Sound Effects, and Speech. Sonohokano Settei: ? Key Config: Set your controller. Upper RIGHT: The MONTH, and DAY and in parenthesis, the DAY OF THE WEEK, and below it, the TIME OF DAY, and HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE (in Yen). Bottom RIGHT: Your "Attribute Meter". This meter is important. It is basically a list of your attributes. When certain stats are high, certain characters are attracted to certain attributes. From top to bottom, here they are, and a brief explanation of each one: 1. Youshi: APPEARANCE. This is your general appearance. 2. Yasashisa: GENTLENESS. This is the measure of how much of a "nice guy" you are. 3. Konjyou: GUTS. How much guts you have, or a better word would be "confidence". 4. Gakuryoku: STUDY. How much studying you've done. 5. Tairyoku: PHYSICAL STRENGTH. 6. Fuhyou: BAD REPUTATION. These carrots appear in BLUE. This is one thing you don't want to get very high, as no woman (at least in the game) wants to date a total jerk. 7. Taichou: CONSTITUTION: As you do activities, this will go down. If it runs out, you will be fatigued. You can rest to bring this up, and it is usually a good idea to do so, usually before a strenuous activity, such as working in the stockroom or jogging. ----- 4. GAMEPLAY Basic Gameplay: Decision Points: These are points in the game that you must make a decision based on interaction with events and certain characters. Here is an example: A character asks you if you have a girlfriend. A text box will appear and you MUST make one of the listed choices. In this case, the choices are: No, I don't have a girlfriend. I have a girlfriend right now. I just broke up. Whatever your answer is, it will set off future events, such as who you will meet at certain times, which characters will like you more, and so on. WARNING: This is for NON JAPANESE-speaking/reading people playing this game. The decision point answers DO change around. In the example above, the next time you play through Pia Carrot 2, The choices might be: I just broke up. I have a girlfriend right now. No, I don't have a girlfriend. Be aware of the choices you make, because they might change around. Also, keep in mind that you are not timed in your choices (like Sakura Taisen), so use that time to do some translating (if you can). Standard Gameplay: Basically, this is a game of "being at the right place, at the right time". You must take jobs at Pia Carrot (i.e., waiter, cashier, stockroom, etc..), to meet women. Some things that you do, like jogging or studying will raise certain attributes that will make you attractive to certain women. Also, keep in mind there are events and calendar dates that you must keep in mind, as they will help you score big points in the dating department. Certain characters like certain things so be aware of that. STARTING THE GAME: 1. The game will first ask you what your name is. You can either use the default name (which I haven't translated yet), or make up a name. Names consist of three characters for the first name, and three characters for the last name. The game will ask if the name is okay, in which you respond either "NO", or "YES". 2. Next, the game will ask which waitress outfit you want. There are three choices. It doesn't matter which one you pick, just be aware that the outfit you choose is the one you will see the young women work in, so PICK SOMETHING YOU LIKE! 3. The game will then go into a lengthy introduction. Basically, you are working at Pia Carrot for the summer as a part-time job before you head off to college. You have to be at the Pia Carrot for your interview, and you are waiting for your best friend, Shinji, who is running late. When you meet up with him, he will want to know all the details of your first day at Pia Carrot. He is somewhat of a pervert, so he is more interested in T&A than anything else. On your way to Pia Carrot you accidentally run into a young woman, who scolds you for fondling her breasts and looking at her panties. She storms off and you head off to Pia Carrot. There, you meet up with some of the characters, and your Manager, Kyoko (the woman with the glasses). She will ask you some questions, and tell you what your first duties are. You will also be staying at a dorm during your time at Pia Carrot. Most everyone you meet will work at Pia Carrot, so you will be able to meet up with them in the dorm. However, some characters you must meet outside Pia Carrot (more on that later). You also find out that the girl you ran into that morning works for Pia Carrot (figures), and she wants nothing to do with you (right now). When you finally get to your dorm room, the menu choices open up. From here, you pretty much make your own decisions. The only option right now is "rest". If you try and rest, the other co-workers will wake you up, because they are having a welcoming party for the new employees... From here, you're pretty much on your own (for now). I will have more for you in the walkthrough. At a certain point in the game, after working in the stockroom for a couple of days, you will get the option from Kyoko to change your schedule. You will have one day off and the other days; you choose what jobs you want to do. Jobs are bundled together, so you do the same job two days straight, so for example, you can do Dishwashing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Cashier on Thursday and Friday. Below is the list of possible jobs. Keep in mind that, if you want to meet girls, you must pick different jobs. There are two ways of approaching this. You can either pick jobs that will put you in the same place that the girl you want to meet up with works in (i.e., if the girl is a Waitress, you work the floor as a Waiter or a Cashier), or you can work in different places in Pia Carrot to meet many different girls. JOBS: Waiter - you will be out on the floor a lot. Here, you might meet up with girls who don't work at Pia Carrot. Cashier - same thing here. You will be out on the floor. Cook - You will be in the kitchen, but you will meet up with all the Waitresses, but no customers. Dishwasher - same thing. You'll be in the kitchen most of the time. Stockroom - You may meet some girls back here, but it is not as often. Groundskeeper - Keep the outside of Pia Carrot looking good. You may run into some girls here. Janitor - Well, you'll move around a lot, chances of running into girls here is variable. Certain attributes will raise or lower depending on which jobs you do. So, if you want to meet a girl who thinks appearance is the most important, than you must pick the job(s) that will raise your appearance attributes. ----- 5. JAPANESE/GAME NOTES Although not necessary for completion of the game, here are some side notes about Japanese culture and notes that may (or may not) help: Legal Japanese drinking age is 20. You aren't 20 in the game, so you are not allowed to drink beer. Can someone from Japan answer this one? Is the use of dorms common for Part-time jobs? The Japanese word for part-time job is arubaito, which comes from the German word for part-time job. In Pia Carrot 2, the word is shortened to just "baito" a lot of the time. Don't spend money unless you have to. You start out with a good sum of money. A good strategy is only spend it on girls (specifically, the one you want to be with). It may be unrealistic, but there is very little in the game that you can do just by yourself that requires lots of money (the arcade is cool, though). It's better to save your money, and use it for transportation (on the train), gifts and other expenses for the girls. Pia Carrot hours are 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. You will automatically go to work after an activity (such as studying or jogging). ----- 6. Characters UNDER CONSTRUCTION. I still am translating this. ----- 7. Important Events As soon as I have the characters names translated, I will start on this. Bear with me. ----- 8. Limited Walkthrough Well, I haven't been through most of the game yet, so this will show up last. ----- Well, that's it (for now). I WILL have more to come. If you have anything to add to this, LET ME KNOW. This is a work in progress and any help would be appreciated! My E-mail address is murdockl@hotmail.com
