This content started out as part of my standard FAQ/Walkthrough for Panzer Dragoon Saga. As this section grew, though, I recognised that it was not really relevant to normal gameplay, but that it is interesting regardless. Thus, I have removed it from that FAQ, and now it has its own document. If you are looking for general help on playing Panzer Dragoon Saga - and not information on glitches - please check out my FAQ/Walkthrough at: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/saturn/file/panzer_dragoon_saga_c.txt <<<=========================================================================>>> {SECTION 2} THE "WALK THROUGH WALLS" GLITCHES <<<=========================================================================>>> What these glitches allow you to do is get outside the normal confines of the game's areas. Currently four of these glitches have come to my attention; this section contains details of how to do perform them, and why they happen. <<<=========================================================================>>> {2.01} WHY THESE GLITCHES HAPPEN <<<=========================================================================>>> SOLID OBJECTS AND INVISIBLE WALLS ================================= Basically, the polygons that make up the game's walls, structures and objects are not actually "solid". By their standard nature, you can pass right through them. To create the illusion that they are solid objects, however, invisible walls have been programmed in around all these things. Though most of the time these invisible walls match the objects well, you will sometimes notice them because, for example, they extend slightly where the object doesn't, or they don't match up to an angular section of wall properly. These invisible walls were consciously and purposefully programmed in, so they only exist where the programmers thought them to be necessary. Any object that the programmers assumed did not need to be "solid", because it could not be touched, does not have an invisible wall around it. For example, a building in a game such as this will probably not have an invisible wall around it above the level where your character could touch it. There would be no reason for it to have one any higher. If you could somehow get your character to fly up and touch the wall of the building high up, they would pass through it due to there being no invisible wall there. WHY THE GLITCHES HAPPEN ======================= These glitches work because, in some obscure places in the game, very small sections of apparently solid wall do not have the necessary invisible wall around them. Thus, it is possible for you to pass through them, and explore outside the normal confines of the game's areas. WHERE THE GLITCHES HAPPEN ========================= The only places where these glitches seem to be possible are the areas where you walk around as Edge. It appears that the areas where you fly around on the dragon are much more "secure" in this respect. The glitches all occur in places where there is a raised ledge of some sort, which you can walk off and so fall to a lower level. In some of these places, it seems that the programmers were a little too economic with the invisible walls. As you fall off some ledges, it is possible to pass through certain walls that have not been made solid. <<<=========================================================================>>> {2.02} WALK THROUGH WALLS IN THE LIBERAL DISTRICT <<<=========================================================================>>> This glitch lets you walk around outside the normal confines of the Liberal District area. It is a refreshingly different place out there to the familiar "grey/black void of death" encountered in most 3D games, too. I discovered this glitch personally. It was this that prompted me to explore a little in search of similar glitches, which are also recorded in this section. HOW TO DO IT ============ On the far side of the Liberal District is Aldo's house, near to the area where Paet works. The house is built into a corner of the town wall, and you can get onto its roof by going up and around on the raised area to the right. The glitch occurs because it is possible to run off the roof above the door of the house, then pass through a section of the house where there is no invisible wall before you hit the ground. If you press into the part of Aldo's house between the door and the town's wall as you fall, you will disappear through it. It may take a few attempts to get the angle right. It is a good idea to get on top of the roof, hold the run button down, push yourself at the wall, then slowly edge your way closer to the edge. Then just move the D-button / 3D Directional Button quickly as you begin to fall, to angle yourself through. RESULT ====== After getting through the wall, walk away from the camera. This will force the viewpoint to follow you through the wall as well, and you will be able to see where you are; on an infinite plain surrounding the game area. As will become obvious, all the regular walls and surfaces in the Liberal District are "one-sided"; they can be seen through from the side you are now on. The invisible walls associated with them can also be walked through from this direction. You can therefore pop back into the Liberal District wherever you like, simply by walking through a wall. You can also walk around on the plain, which goes on forever in every direction, but predictably, there is nothing out there. The graphics get a little jerky outside the game area too, but the game will not crash. Unfortunately, there is no way to "abuse" this glitch from a gameplay point of view, as it does not allow you to access any different areas that you could not reach already at an early stage in the game. It does not let you reach the Holy District without needing the Pass, for example, as the Holy District itself is only loaded when you go through the main doors. It is not there otherwise, as you can see with this glitch. If you get through the wall and then go around to where the Holy District should be, you will find that all of its paths, lawns etc. are there on the plain, but the buildings themselves are absent. If you run out into the plain in one direction for an extremely long time, you will eventually come to another "copy" of Zoah's paths, lawns and textures on the ground. However, this time there will be no buildings there, from either the Liberal or Holy District. One slight oddity is a lone black mark on the floor of the plain, similar to the ones that make up the ground textures of each district. This one, however, is out past the normal confines of any game area, beyond the large wall where the Liberal District's "road" is. Its presence isn't exactly mysterious, though. After all, why would the game's programmers bother to remove a random blemish that no one should be able to see? <<<=========================================================================>>> {2.03} WALK THROUGH WALLS IN THE HOLY DISTRICT <<<=========================================================================>>> This glitch has the same effect as the one described above, except that it lets you reach the "infinite plain" outside the Holy District area. This glitch was also discovered by me. It is a little more complex than the others listed here, and so I have explained it in a bit more detail. WHY THIS SPECIFIC GLITCH HAPPENS ================================ In the areas where you walk around as Edge, there are often small ledges you can walk off, and so fall to lower levels. Interestingly, if you walk off a raised edge, then IMMEDIATELY move back towards the edge, you will often "spring" back onto the higher level you just fell off, before you hit the ground. This works in many places where one level drops to another vertically, and it is much easier to do if you are running. This in itself is not really a glitch, but it allows you to do something interesting in Zoah's Holy District. An expansion on the general concept of polygons and invisible walls also comes into play here. An important fact is that Edge himself is just a group of non- solid polygons with an invisible, solid component around him. However, the only "solid" part of Edge is in fact his feet. Therefore, if you can get his feet to pass through something, the rest of his body will follow. HOW TO DO IT ============ The glitch happens on the raised platform that Boaz's food storehouse is on, which is in front of the Holy District's entrance. You get up to the raised area via a gentle slope, on either side of which there is a "fence" of posts. Looking down from the top of the slope, you will see that the left-hand fence joins to the town's wall, while the right-hand one carries on to the far edge of the raised area, where it drops away. It is this right-hand fence that the glitch works with, but not at that far end. Rather, you will be focusing on the end next to the bottom of the shallow slope. You can walk off the raised area right next to the large end fencepost, and in doing so you will fall a short distance to the slope. However, the above information about "springing" back onto a ledge can be applied here, in a way that the programmers clearly didn't anticipate. Basically, what you can do is run off the edge where the big fencepost is, and "spring" back up fractionally further along. If you do it right, (and this is the hard part,) you will find yourself "inside" the fence. This is because there is no invisible wall at the horizontal end of the fence. To perform the glitch, it is a good idea to hold down the run button, push yourself at the fence, then edge your way towards the drop. Then, quickly move the D-Button / 3D Directional Button back towards the ledge as you begin to fall; this should get you inside the fence. Once in the fence, you can do something that the fence was preventing you from doing: walk off the main platform and onto the edge of the raised area, which bulges out where it meets the ground. However, as the programmers never expected you to be able to touch this bulge due to the fence, there is no invisible floor there, and you will fall straight through it. What you will now have is Edge standing on the ground, but "inside" the raised area. You can walk around in it, and you will see that it comes up to Edge's waist. The concept of Edge's feet being the only solid part of him comes into play at this point. The town's wall is solid only at the level that Edge's feet would normally come into contact with it. However, Edge's feet are now below that expected level, so you can walk through the wall wherever it meets the raised area. RESULT ====== As with the Liberal District's similar glitch, there is sadly not much you can do after getting outside the normal playing area. There is nothing of particular interest beyond Zoah's walls; just the infinite plain. This time around, the Liberal District does not exist where it should, due to it not being loaded until you pass through the main doors. Again, you can see all of its paths and textures on the plain outside. Note that it is impossible to perform this glitch on the other, left-hand side fence near the storehouse. Although you can run off the edge and "spring" up so that you get inside that fence too, the relevant invisible floor strangely exists on that side, so you cannot fall through. <<<=========================================================================>>> {2.04} WALK THROUGH WALLS IN ZOAH'S CHURCH <<<=========================================================================>>> As opposed to the glitches above, this one lets you get outside of an interior location rather than an exterior one. It happens in the Holy District's church, and once again, I chanced across this glitch myself. HOW TO DO IT ============ The church contains a raised platform, at the top of which is an intricate stained glass window. To the left of the platform is the locked door to the room with the "Guardian Fire". Go on to the platform, to the side near the door. If you are very careful, you can walk off the platform and fall through the doorframe, without triggering the "This door is locked" message. As with the previous glitches, it is best to push at the wall, then edge your way very slowly to the doorframe. It is also better if you just walk this time, rather than run. RESULT ====== Being outside this room is a bit less interesting than being outside the town itself, as in the previous glitches. This is because the camera is fixed, and so it does not follow Edge through the walls. It is unclear exactly what is out there, as you cannot see it. As with all these glitches, you can pop back into the normal area wherever you like simply by walking through a wall. It is worth pointing out that you can see Edge through the large stained glass window. If you move Edge behind it, you can run away from the camera, and watch him dwindle away into the distance until he disappears. <<<=========================================================================>>> {2.05} WALK THROUGH WALLS IN VAIMAN'S HOUSE <<<=========================================================================>>> This is another "walk through walls" glitch in an interior location, this time the house of Vaiman and Paet. This glitch was pointed out by Dhsu on the GameFAQs message boards. HOW TO DO IT ============ In the main room of the house is a flight of stairs, which leads up to Paet's room. The stairs are permanently blocked, however. (To enter Paet's room, you must climb up a small ladder outside.) Run up the stairs, and you will be greeted with a message saying "The stairs are blocked...". If you then just run on to the right, you will pass through the wall. Presumably the programmers didn't think an invisible wall was necessary, as the message saying "The stairs are blocked..." physically pushes Edge back like a locked door would. It does not trigger again if you walk off the stairs at the correct angle, however. RESULT ====== The result is just like the one for the previous glitch; the camera unfortunately does not follow Edge through the wall, and you can pop back into the room wherever you like by just walking back through a wall. <<<=========================================================================>>> {2.06} FINDING NEW PLACES TO WALK THROUGH WALLS <<<=========================================================================>>> For anyone interested in hunting for more of these glitches, remember that they generally occur in places where Edge can walk off raised ledges. I doubt that there would be any of these glitches in flat areas like your Camp, the Caravan, the Excavation Site, or Ruins - Bottom Floor, for example - although there might be. It seems more likely, though, that any undiscovered "walk through walls" glitches will be ones that happen in Zoah, or in the Seekers' Stronghold. It is also possible that a "fly through walls" glitch exists somewhere in one of the dragon's areas, though none have yet been found. If you do find any new glitches, I'd be pleased to hear about them. I will include any new findings in future versions of this FAQ, giving full credit to the person who gave me the information. See Section 4.02 for details on contacting the author. <<<=========================================================================>>> {SECTION 3} OTHER GLITCHES <<<=========================================================================>>> There are not a great deal of other gameplay glitches in Panzer Dragoon Saga, but the remaining ones are listed in this section. <<<=========================================================================>>> {3.01} CHANGE YOUR DRAGON'S CLASS FOR FREE DURING BATTLE <<<=========================================================================>>> This glitch can only really be done with a 3D Control Pad, due to the precise movements involved. It normally costs you one gauge in order to change your dragon's Class during a battle. However, there is a way to modify your Class and Power stats all you want, without wasting any valuable gauges. On the "Type Select" screen, you can change your dragon's various Power stats in large or small degrees. Quite simply, if you only change a stat ONE OR TWO POINTS from what it was when you opened the screen, the change will cost you no gauges. When you confirm the change, you will return to the Battle Menu to find that you have not lost any gauges. You can then just return to the Type Select screen again, and repeat this process indefinitely. Three points or more in a given direction will be enough to drain a gauge as normal, but be careful and patient and you can get your dragon's Class and Power stats however you want them, without consuming any real battle time. <<<=========================================================================>>> {3.02} SKIP BATTLES WITH HELLIONS AT GEORGIUS <<<=========================================================================>>> You should probably just fight any Hellions that do attack you, in order to gain a little EXP and maybe go up a Level. However, there is a "trick" that you can use to avoid such battles if you want. When a Hellion sphere crashes into you while you are near the tornado, you will notice that the screen flashes red. If you immediately press A or C to bring up your Lock-On cursor when this happens, you will strangely skip the battle. <<<=========================================================================>>> {SECTION 4} FAQ INFORMATION <<<=========================================================================>>> <<<=========================================================================>>> {4.01} OTHER PANZER DRAGOON FAQS BY THE AUTHOR <<<=========================================================================>>> PANZER DRAGOON SAGA FAQ/WALKTHROUGH =================================== I have written a comprehensive guide that covers all other aspects of playing Panzer Dragoon Saga.
