The Story behind this game is simple. Take X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and add on Marvel Super Heroes. Now! If you aren't familiar with the XM.V.SF Story, then read the next part. Apocalypse has created a dimensional riff sucking the Street Fighters in to the Marvel World. His plan : to have the greatest warriors of both dimensions destroy each other so that he may conquer both dimensions with ease. Many heroes have teamed up together, such as Cyclops and Ryu, but with that...evil has also teamed up ttogether. Heroes and villian clash together in an outrageous game with tons of crazy moves and combos. NOTE! This story line does NOT correspond with any of the other Capcom Story Lines. -------End _______PART 3 BASIC GAMEPLAY__________________________________________ Basic Movement -------------- The Game is rather simple to control. The joypad (joystick) directs the character in the proper direction. The buttons are laid out three over three. The above three being punches and the lower, the kicks. Each set is weakest to strongest from left to right. There is also a start button. The start button pauses the game within combat...but for some fun, see the tricks section. There are also L and R buttons. By default, these buttons are all three punches of all three kicks. Here's a quick run-down of the control pad. Start Pause Directional Pad Movement in all directions - Jumping, crouching, walking, etc. X Button Weak Punch Y Button Medium Punch Z Button Heavy Punch A Button Weak Kick B Button Medium Kick C Button Heavy Kick L Button All Three Kicks R Button All Three Punches ADVANCED MOVEMENT Dash Forward either all three punches w/ forward or forward, forward Back Dash (Evade) either all three punches w/ back or back, back Super Jump either all three kick buttons or up, down Throw Tech Hit Perform same exact punch command after you've been thrown to land on your feet and reduce damage. Combos ------ Combos are plain evil, but they are essential to beating the game. Each character has a magic series. What is a magic series? It is a series of button combinations that connects after one another. Usually, it flows from weak to strong. Connecting combos is fun, but the real fun comes from figuring out absolutely evil long devastating chain combos. Perhaps like this one : Cyclops - jump in with a weak punch, weak kick, medium punch, land, weak punch, weak kick, standing medium punch, super jump, weak punch, weak kick, medium punch, medium kick, strong punch. This is an example of a devastating normal air combo that lands 11 hits if performed correctly For a more advanced combo, see the Hyper Combo section. Blocking -------- Blocking is one of the key factors in playing a game like this (unless you play Mega Zangief - see tricks) Blocking is performed by pulling back on the joypad. A character can block anywhere...but not anytime. What? A character can block in the air, in a crouch, or just plain standing up. A character cannot block if it is in the process of recovering from a special move. Kinda like this : Wolverine performs his beserker barrage, and Cyclops blocks. After Cyclops block he can attack Wolverine with a quick move for a split second before Wolverine is able to block again. A good optic blast (low) can easily be scored. Advancing blocks are another type of block. They aren't exactly that important unless you want your character against the wall. To perform an advancing block, normally block, but in the middle of blocking, press all three punches. Block Back on Joypad Advancing Block Block, then follow with all three punch Buttons. Special Moves ------------- Special Moves make the game more than just plain hitting. These moves are executed with a directional stroke on the joypad then a attack button. They usually do more damage and are farther ranged than normal attacks. they are great for using in combos and mostly just give the game a competitive edge. Ryu's Hadoken (Fireball) - down, down-forward, forward + any Punch Button Some special moves are exclusive to this game such as the character call for help. This occurs when both medium punch and medium kick are pressed together. The second character, who is not on the screen, joins in for a split second to toss a a hit or so at your opponent. HYPER COMBOS!!!! ---------------- These are extremely fun. They are executed like normal moves, but with two buttons instead of just one. For example : Ryu's Hadoken down, down-forward, forward + Any punch button Ryu's Shinku Hadoken down, down-forward, forward + Any two punch buttons These too can be chained into combos. Remember above when I promised that fun Hyper Combo Combo. Here it is : Ryu - dash, crouching weak kick, crouching strong punch, super jump, light punch, shinku hadoken. Team Play Moves --------------- SWITCHING CHARACTERS! - Press Strong Punch and Strong Kick to switch your character out like tag team. Note : When a character is out, he or she regenerates any lost damage in the last bout they were in. It's like this. Wolverine and Cyclops are fighting Shuma-Gorath and Omega Red. Shuma is dealing massive damage to Wolverine, so Wolverine retreats and Cyclops jumps in. Wolverine starts regenerating a large portion of the damage that was dealt to him. Shuma pastes Cyclops with a Chaos Dimension and Cyclops jumps out. Wolverine jumps in and looses ALL the energy that could be regenerated. Then line in the middle is the ability to regenerate lost energy. The bottom line is unrecoverable energy. Cyclops __________________------------*====/ \====================================Shuma-Gorath Wolverine______________________=============\ /====================================Omega Red Note : Since Wolverine didn't recover all the regeneration energy, it dissapears TEAM ASSIST - With this game comes the introduction of a new team Help move. We'll start with this one. To execute a ASSIST Move, press MP + MK. Your Partner will jump in for a split second, performing a special move. It's like this : Cyclops is in the playing field, and the player performs the assist. Ryu (his partner) jumps in for a split second and releases a fireball and jumps back out. NOTE: Your partner can take damage while he is assisting, in the same manner as he can take damage when he is jumping out from a TEAM ASSIST. TEAM HYPER - Like XM.V.SF, a player can summon both of his characters for one large TEAM HYPER attack. This is performed with a half circle starting from the back and going around the bottom to the front plus heavy punch and heavy kick. Both characters jump out and perform a HYPER COMBO together that racks up major damage if executed correctly. NOTE : Some characters work better together than others. THIS TAKES TWO SUPER BARS. TEAM COUNTER - Again like XM.V.SF, a player can summon his partner after blocking to perform a special move. Unlike the TEAM ASSIST, this move usually and almost always hits. This move is great for corner-pushers, or players that push their opponents into the corner and continue with relentless attacking. This is performed in the same manner as a TEAM HYPER, but only in the middle of blocking. THIS TAKES ONE SUPER BAR.
