Langrisser IV (Sega Saturn) Walthrough Version 1.1 by Lucan Duran (shadowfiend@juno.com) (The game has been "tweaked" on the PSX. This file may also be helpful for the PSX version but please keep in mind that some parts of the game may be different if you're reading this file while playing the PSX version.) Last updated January 9, 2000 Copyright 1999 Lucan Duran Langrisser IV (c) 1997 Career Soft / Masaya / Nippon Computer Systems _____________________________________________________ ----- What's New ----- Version 1.1 (January 9, 2000) - Added a few sentences in the "legal crap" section. Corrected some spelling errors. Updated the link to Alamone's Langrisser page. Made some corrections in the "action rating" paragraphs at the bottom of the file (specifically, the "recovery number"). Version 1.0 (October 16, 1999) - First version. _____________________________________________________ ----- Legal Crap ----- This walkthrough may not be sold without the expressed written permission of the author (you'll never get the permission to sell it). Although the Langrisser trading cards spell the hero of this game's name, "Randius," I prefer, "Landius." I don't feel like getting into a long debate over the difficulties of Japanese people not being able to to pronounce Ls and Rs with distinction. I also don't want to get into a debate over how the names should be spelled. I'll spell the names in the manner that I feel the most comfortable with. As for hidden items, I won't mention where all of them are. If you want to know where they are, go to the "alamone" web page - the link is given in the "recommended web pages" section below. The "battle strategies" are only suggestions. The strategies are not written in stone so there are other ways for you to beat various missions. This walkthrough has information on all "regular" missions. I didn't include information on hidden missions. As stated earlier, there are some differences between the Saturn and PSX versions. If you're playing the PSX version, you would have bought "Langrisser IV & V Final Edition." You would have two discs - Lang4 and Lang5. This file will only deal with Lang4. _____________________________________________________ ----- Bibliography ----- Saturn Fan #16, August 29, 1997; Pp. 115 - 123 (Information regarding answers to Rachel's questions) Saturn Fan #17, September 12, 1997; Pp. 175 - 181 (Information regarding which decisions affect love index points) Dengeki Sega Saturn, September 5, 1997; Pp. 104 - 113 (Class change charts) Dengeki Sega Saturn, September 19, 1997; Pp. 158 - 161 (miscellaneous) Sega Saturn Magazine #31, September 12, 1997, Pp. 170 - 173 (miscellaneous) _____________________________________________________ ----- Recommended (my favorite Langrisser) web pages ----- http://home.att.ne.jp/yellow/1511/index.htm (Japanese) http://zophar.net/personal/alamone/ (you can download the latest version of my Langrisser IV FAQ here) _____________________________________________________ ----- Where to download the latest version of this FAQ ----- http://alamone.zophar.net/ http://www.gamefaqs.com http://vgstrategies.about.com _____________________________________________________ ----- Prologue ----- (Don't press any buttons and just watch the screen to witness the following...) At the beginning, General Gizarov will be honored by King Cleones of Regenburg. Cleones will offer Lottebile terrritory as Gizarov's reward for his hard and excellent work. Gizarov states that the territory will be more prosperous under the care of the king and all he wants is one town - Gotaal - as his territory. The king wonders why Gizarov only wants a small territory. Gizarov explains that he is happy just by being honored the the king and only wants a small town as a token of gratitude. The King gladly names Gizarov the lord of Gotaal. In the first order of business, Gizarov doubles the tax rate of Gotaal. Gotaal is a small town which had trouble paying the "normal" tax rate. Gizarov (and Kreuger; no relation to Freddy) knows (as does Kreuger) that the townspeople will rebel when faced with the nex tax rate. In the meantime, the tiny Caconsis Kingdom is about to send hostages to the Regenburg Federation Kingdom. Previously, Caconsis had sent their prince as a hostage but he has died of illness. In order to assure peace between Caconsis and Regenburg, King Caconsis sends his two daughters (Shelfaniel and Angelina). Gotaal - Landius' father (the mayor) returns to Gotaal. He fails to convince Gizarov to lower the taxes. Since the townpeople cannot pay the taxes and seeing no other way out, they choose to rebel. _____________________________________________________ ----- Rachel's Questions ----- When you start the game, you'll be faced with Rachel. She'll say that she found a fortune telling book and wants to try it out. She'll ask you to enter your name. The default name is, "Landius." If you want to keep this name, then press the C button. If you want to enter another name, then use the control pad to move the cursor and enter your own name. A I U E O YA YU YO WA N V ! ? . - KA KI KU KE KO RA RI RU RE RO a i u e o SA SHI SU SE SO GA GI GU GW GO ya yu yo tsu TA CHI TSU TE TO ZA JI ZU ZE ZO 1 2 3 4 5 NA NI NU NE NO DA JI ZU DE DO 6 7 8 9 0 HA HI FU HE HO BA BI BU BE BO MA MI MU ME MO PA PI PU PE PO The "RA" row can have the L instead on an R as a substitute. Now, how do you enter your name with these crazy characters? Well, that's a toughie. I have an explanation on how to enter your name in my Suchi-Pai Adventure walkthrough (downloadable from http://gamefaqs.com or http://vgstrategies.about.com ) but that only provides examples. Of course, I can't include all the names of the people that may play this game so if you *REALLY* want to know how to enter your name properly, you can e-mail me and ask. I'll be more than happy to tell you. After you're done entering your name, you'll be asked if this is the name you want. 1 - Yes, 2 - No. Select no to re-enter your name. You'll now have to answer Rachel's questions. She'll first ask to pick two cards. These cards determine your level up "hidden class" later. 1 - Ace 2 - Jack 3 - Queen 4 - King Just choose any two for now. Read the "class change chart" later in this file and re-pick your cards if you don't like what you chose. You'll now get choose things you "like" in order: Green summer meadow - Path A Blue summer sky - Path B A room that gives a relaxed feeling - Path C Beautiful mountains covered by fog - Path D You'll pick three things. The choice you don't make will not affect your class change status. Every time a character defeats enough monsters (or heals party members), that character gains experience (there's a limit to how much a character can gain exp by healing party members). Every time the character reaches level 10, the character can be promoted to another class. Landius' class promotion isn't set in stone like the other party members (as you'll find out). Path A Path B Path C Path D Level 1 Gladiator Hawklord Sorcerer Equire? Level 2 Battlemaster Dragonknight Mage Paladin Level 3 Swordmaster Dragonlord Archmage Saint Hidden class Hero Dragonmaster Hermit Avatar Path 2, level 3 ==> Queen Path 2, level 2 / Silver Kinght Kight Master ==> Ace (Royal Guard) Knight Brave Kinght \ Path 1, level 1 Path 1, level 3 ==> Jack Path 1, level 2 Path 3, level 3 ==> King Now suppose you chose Path D for Path 2. You can then go Knight ==> Silver Kinght ==> Paladin ==> Knight Master ...and become a knight that can use healing magic. Also, if you chose Path C as Path 1 and Path B as Path 3, you can go Knight ==> Sorcerer ==> Mage ==> Dragonlord ...and become a flying unit that can use powerful magic. Depending on which card and which path you chose, your hidden class status is also altered. When promoting your character, if you went Knight ==> Silver Knight ==> Brave Knight ==> Knight Master ...and DID NOT choose "Ace" as one of the cards, then Landius can't be promoted to the hidden class (Royal Guard). No matter what class promotions you choose, make sure that the direction that you're headed in the class promotions takes you to at least one of the cards you chose at the beginning. _____________________________________________________ Ricky's class promotion chart: Sword Master Battlemaster Gladiator Serpent Lord ==> Serpent Master Fighter General Sorcerer Marshal Mage Archmage ==> Hermit Recommended promotion path: Fighter ==> Sorcerer ==> General ==> Serpent Lord ==> Serpent Master The path allows Ricky to learn some level of magic and will allow him to be a strong fighter as he levels up. Heal1 will be very useful. _____________________________________________________ McLaine's class promotion chart: Serpent Lord ==> Serpent Master Serpent Knight Captain Sword Master Fighter General Gladiator Marshal Assasin Ninja ==> Ninja Master Recommended promotion path: Fighter ==> Captain ==> Serpent Knight ==> Serpent Lord ==> Serpent Master If you don't care about the hidden class, Sword Master and Marshal are also good. The Ninja class *sucks*. Turning him into a Ninja will make him a pathetic warrior and even the mercenaries he can hire are pathetic. Even if you equip him with a necklace to increase his field of command, it's too small to do you any good. If McLaine is a Ninja equipped with a sword, his attack is no longer a "wall of fire" attack like it was when he was a Fighter. His attack will be "attack forward" like a horeman commander but with less offensive punch. You can equip him with a bow to give him a range of attack longer than 1, but there's a substantial penalty on offense and defense for equipping a bow. _____________________________________________________ Shelfaniel's class promotion chart: Wizard Summoner Shaman Sword Master ==> Princess Warlock Mage Sorcerer Archmage ==> Hermit Unicorn Knight Unicorn Lord Recommended promotion path: Warlock ==> Shaman or Sorcerer ==> Mage ==> Archmage ==> Hermit She has a high potential for magic so turning her into a Unicorn Knight or a Sword Master is wasteful. She will be your primary offensive magic caster so turn her into a Wizard or an Archmage ==> Hermit. _____________________________________________________ Angelina's class promotion chart: Unicorn Lord ==> Royal Guard Unicorn Knight Pegasus Lord Dragon Lord ==> Dragonmaster Pegasus Knight Dragon Knight Gladiator Ranger Battlemaster Sword Master (If you can play in a manner which doesn't require flying units) Recommended promotion path: Pegasus Knight ==> Pegasus Lord ==> Unicorn Knight ==> Unicorn Lord ==> Royal Guard (If you play in a manner that requires flying units) Recommended promotion path: Pegasus Knight ==> Pegasus Lord ==> Dragon Knight ==> Dragon Lord ==> Dragon Master Her defensive rating doesn't mature very well so playing the latter part of the game will be tough for her. If you want her to mature into a strong character, you'll have to have her kill most of the enemies early in the game or use the level select cheat (I'll explain this later). _____________________________________________________ Rachel's class promotion chart: Saint Paladin Cleric High Priest Healer Priest Shaman Archmage ==> Hermit Summoner Wizard Recommended promotion path: Healer ==> Cleric or Shaman ==> Priest ==> Archmage ==> Hermit The only way you'll be able to actually develop her will be in "the evil path" (this will be explained later). Unless you're going to that path, don't bother developing her too much. She will be you primary healer until she drops from your party later in the game. _____________________________________________________ Selena's class promotion chart: Knight Master General Gladiator Marshal ==> Queen Fighter Paladin ?Equire? Saint Priest High Priest Recommended promotion path: Fighter ==> ?Equire? ==> Paladin ==> Marshal ==> Queen After Rachel drops from your party in route A (this will be explained later), she will be your primary healer. If you don't care about her hidden class, turn her into a High Priest. _____________________________________________________ Lanford's class promotion chart: Marshal Battlemaster Gladiator Sword Master ==> Holy Swordsman Knight Brave Knight Silver Knight Knight Master ==> Royal Guard Dragon Knight Dragon Lord Recommended promotion path: Knight ==> Silver Kngiht ==> Brave Knight ==> Sword Master ==> Holy Swordsman *OR* Recommended promotion path: Knight ==> Gladiator ==> Battlemaster ==> Sword Master ==> Holy Swordsman Lanford is one tough guy, no matter how you develop him. Since many of the missions he will be involved with slows down horse and aerial units, turning him into a foot soldier is recommended. _____________________________________________________ Jessica's class promotion chart: Sword Master Battlemaster Shaman Wizard Walock Summoner Cleric High Priest Priest Saint ==> Avatar Recommended promotion path: Warlock ==> Cleric ==> Priest ==> Saint ==> Avatar She will only be playable in route A. Try to develop her as much as possible to gain her Teleport spell. The teleport spell will be your best friend in the final mission. Turning her into a warrior class soldier is wasteful. _____________________________________________________ Listil's class promotion chart: Mythril Golem Dark Paladin Succubus Dark Saint ==> Dark Princess Werecat Archdemon ?Alarune? Demon Lord ==> Demon God Cait Sith Ramia Recommended promotion path: Werecat ==> Succubus ==> Dark Paladin or Archdemon ==> Dark Saint ==> Dark Princess Listil will be your primary healer in route C. If you don't care about her hidden class, turn her into a Mythril Golem (a spearman unit) and wreak havoc on enemy horsemen. _____________________________________________________ Naal's class promotion chart: Orochi (Giant Serpent) Sea Serpent Scula Chaos Dragon Incubus Living Armor Larvae Vampire ==> Vampire Lord Wraith Death ==> Death Lord Recommended promotion path: Incubus ==> Larvae ==> Wraith ==> Vampire or Death ==> hidden class No matter which hidden class you go for, Naal will be a useful member in your party. If you don't care about the hidden class, go for Chaos Dragon since the dragons Naal will be able to hire will kick a lot of ass. As for turning him into a serpent class, Ricky and McLaine should be the only sea units - you don't want too many sea units since you don't want to end up with a one- dimentional party. _____________________________________________________ Ivar's class promotion chart: Serpent Lord Serpent Knight Sorcerer Archmage Warlock Mage Thief Marshal Assasin Ranger Recommended promotion path: Warlock ==> Sorcerer ==> Mage ==> Marshal or Archmage He has no hidden class. Turning him into an Assasin/Ranger is a *dumb* idea (go read my comments on McLaine). As for turning him into a serpent, read my comments on Naal. Since he has a lot of MP, making him a magic user is the best way to go. _____________________________________________________ You'll now have to answer the rest of Rachel's questions. If you think your character is too weak or don't like your character's stats for some reason, you can go back and answer Rachel's questions again (it's the second choice). You'll get a "gift" when you're done. What you get is completely random. You'll now get the option to do a little reading (but it's pointless if you don't understand Japanese - that's what I'm here for). You'll be asked if you want to read several "books" (basically, game information). I'll explain what the information is. There's a prologue in every stage and before the battle, there's a preparation menu. In the menu, you can hire mercenaries, buy or sell items, and equip items. After placing the commanders on the map, you can go to battle - but in some stages, the distribution of commanders may be predetermined for you. In the simulation, there's a map mode and a battle mode. In this game, the "order of movements" are in the map mode once again. (Langrisser III had a significantly different battle system and this is what the instructions are referring to, I think.) Foot soldiers are strong against spearmen but weak against horsemen. Spearmen are strong against horsemen but weak against foot soldiers. Horsemen are strong against foot soldiers but weak against spearmen. (Note: Foot soldiers in this game are mostly referring to swordsmen or similar types of units. Please take a lesson in kanji and write down/take notes/buy a Japanese dictionary/whatever. Learn how "foot soldiers" and "speamen" and "hosremen" are written from the game and from the dictionary. Spearmen themselves are foot soldiers in the real world - but when attacking them, do not use horsemen. Spearmen and foot soldiers are both foot soldiers but spearmen are classified differently in this game. Please keep that in mind.) Priest-types are strong against the undead and gels. The anti-air units are very strong against air units. In the battle preparation menu, when a cursor is on a soldier or an item, press "start" and you'll be able to read an explanation. During the battle, if you place the cursor on a magic spell or a summon spell, you'll even be able to read explanation of that magic. A commander can hire from 1 to 4 mercenaries. Each commander has a "commander's field of command" and can give soldiers that fight in that field additional statistical bonuses. There are attack, defense, magic bonuses and they are indicated by A+, D+, and M+. The player character's field is indicated by blue, a non-player character by green, and an enemy character by red. When battling with an enemy, fight inside the field. The summoned monsters act as soldiers that can cast magic (it doesn't tell you not all monsters can cast magic). The "order" in which characters can move is close to a real-time system. Each unit has a judgment ability. After placing a command, depending on the judgment ability, the unit will wait until its turn to receive orders come again. In other words, it is not true that a unit can only receive 1 command per turn. The higher the judgment ability, the more orders the unit can accept per turn. If you used magic, depending on how long the magic takes to cast, the order of when you act will change. Of course, the more powerful a spell is, more time will be necessary to cast it. On the flipside, the weaker spells take a shorter amount of time to cast. It's also possible not to give any orders and just have a unit wait. Mercenaries can be told what to do all at once but if you happen to move even a single unit, you cannot just make them "wait." In other words, they all act together. During the battle, pressing start will allow you to see the "order" of those who can act. In addition, when you place a cursor on a unit, it's "order" will be displayed on the upper-right portion of the screen. The numbers of the upper-right portion of the screen have two numbers - white and grey. White numbers indicate that the unit will move in that turn but a grey number indicates that the unit will move in the following turn. 1 turn is calculated by 50 counts. You can see the flow of the game by the "turn gauge." The orders each unit can receive will be determined by the phase number. The phase number can be calculated by "100 minus Judgment." Judgment 50 makes Phase number 50, allowing 1 command per 1 turn. Judgment 75 makes phase number 25, allowing 2 commands per 1 turn. "Healing" takes 50 counts and "Waiting" takes 20 counts before the unit can act again. Magic requires a "casting period" and requires another 25 counts before the magic user can act again. If you cancel casting a spell, then you can act after 15 counts. Soldiers placed directly above, below, left, or right of the commander can recover 3HP per turn. If the commander is killed, then the mercenaries and summoned monsters will also be decimated. You can defeat enemies this way but the amount of experience you can acquire will be lessened. If soldiers or monsters defeats enemies, the commander will receive experience. When a commander is defeated, you can gain some experience and money from the defeated commander's mercenaries and monsters as well but will only receive 1/2 the experience points. If you use a heal or a cure spell, you will receive experience for the number of units who have recovered. However, there are limits - you can only gain experience once per turn. (Meaning, suppose Rachel casts Heal1 and heals a group of soldiers. Also suppose the soldiers were badly injured and did not recover to 10HP with the first Heal1 spell. Now suppose someone else with a heal spell casts Heal1 on the same group of soldiers in the same "trun." The second character that cast Heal1 in the same "turn" will not gain any experience after the soldiers recover HP.) There is no affinity that states that archers are strong against flying units. (In the previous Langrisser games, archers ate flying units for lunch.) There are above water soldiers (strongest when fighting in water), standard water soldiers (not bad), and land soldier (weakest in water) classes of "water" soldiers. _____________________________________________________ ----- Alignment points ----- "Alignment" is basically a good/evil index. You first start out with 100 points and you can increase or decrease alignment points by answering Rachel's questions. Once the actual game starts, the way you play will affect alignment point accumulation. Some scenarios/missions do not have a "kill all enemies" objective. In such missions, if you kill all enemies and clear the mission, you'll add 1 alignment point. If you clear such missions without killing all enemies, then subtract 1 alignment point. The higher your alignment, the more "evil" you are. You can't visually see how many alignment points you have at any point in the game so about the only things you can do are to take notes or take a guess as to how much you have. Alignment points will help determine which "scenarios" you go through. _____________________________________________________ ----- Love index points ----- A literal translation from Japanese is, "friendship index," but since the points affect whether Landius ends up with a certain girl, I thought it would be better to say, "love index." This, like alignment, will also start at 100 points - for each individual woman. There are five women that are Landius' potential love interests (Rachel, Shelfaniel, Angelina, Selena, Listil). Near the end of the game, Landius will attempt to "confess his love" for one of the women (except in scenario B; alternate scenarios will be explained later). If the love index points of a particular woman is high enough, then Landius and the woman of his (your choice) will be involved in a loving relationship but if the points are too low, then he gets turned down. During the game, you'll be able to say certain things that increase or decrease the points of whichever woman you (Landius) are interested in. In addition, if a girl gets "wasted" in a mission, then her love index point total decreases by 1. If there's a particular girl you're interested in, NEVER let her get wasted in a mission. Points necessary to achieve a long relationship with a particular woman/girl are the following. Route A: Shelfaniel 120, Rachel 120, Angelina 120, Selena 115 Route B: Route C: Shelfaniel 122, Rachel 120, Angelina 125, Listil 107 The "routes" are explained in the next section. For Shelfaniel, there's also a love index for Ricky. That love index is the EMOTIONAL SCAR INDEX, meaning, the emotional scar points Shelfaniel has for Landius. Emotional scar index = Shelfaniel's love index for Ricky. This will also start at 100 points. Depending on what you say and/or do during the game, the points will either increase or decrease. If Landius gets turned down by a woman when the time comes and if the emotional scar index is 110 or higher, then Shelfaniel will accept Ricky's love. If it's 109 or lower, Landius and Ricky are both off to the singles bar. ^_^ _____________________________________________________ ----- Alternate scenarios ----- This, the "alignment" points and "love index" points may be a little tough to absorb without having played the game. If you're confused, skip reading this section and go play the game. Come back and read this section after you beat scenario 11, 16, or 19A. Otherwise, read on. There are scenario routes A, B, and C. Route A: Your typical "save the world" scenario. Before mission 17, agree to form an alliance with the demons and Frederick (first choice). After beating scenario 20A, choose to believe the witch (Jessica, first choice). As a note, If your alignment is 95 or lower, you'll automatically choose the second choice before mission 17 (you'll refuse to form an alliance with the demons) and if Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index is 110 or higher, you'll automatically go to route C. Route B: Increase your alignment points by killing all enemies in missions which do not require you to kill everything. After beating scenario 20A, choose to believe in Bozel (second choice), then choose the second choice again. As a note, if your alignment is 112 or higher, you'll automatically go to route B if you chose to believe in Bozel. If it's below 104, then you'll go to route A. Route C: Before the start of scenario 12, choose, "How do you know about that?" (third choice) when Angelina asks if you ever got lost in the woods about 10 years ago. This will activate the "lost woods" flashback. Sometime during scenarios 13, 14, or 15, have Angelina attack Emily at least once (it doesn't count if you attack one of Emily's horsemen or if you attack Emily using one of Anglina's mercenaries; IT MUST be Angelina herself versus Emily herself). You must also have Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index up to at least 110. Before scenario 17, refuse to ally with the demons (second choice). If your alignment is under 95 and satisfied the other conditions, the "second choice" will automatically be made for you and you'll automatically go to route C. _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 1 ----- Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies. Losing condition: Death of Landius, Ricky, or the mayor After you're done answering Rachel's questions, you'll see Kreuger talking to Gizarov. The soldiers are about to go to Gotaal - by force. Kreuger is to lead them. You're now about go into your first battle. You'll see a menu. 1 - Distribute troops 2 - Shop 3 - Equip 4 - Distribute commanders 5 - Save (this, you can read) 6 - Load (this too) 7 - Start battle 1 - Distributing troops: Landius can only hire troopers and Ricky can only hire standard foot soldiers. Hire as many as you can afford. When you click on a trooper, you'll see 3 choices - increase, decrease, and done. When you hire the maximum amount, you'll automatically go to "done." 3 - Equip: Wondering why I wrote this before "Shop"? That's because you can usually equip an item that you received after answering Rachel's questions. Choose the person you want to equip an item with and select away. The top choice is, "don't equip." The second is, "leave as is." The other choices are items you can equip. Items in grey are items equipped by other party members and you can't equip them without removing the item(s) from another character. There are three things that you can equip - weapon, armor, and an accesory. There are no accesories you can equip at this point of the game. 2 - Shop: Here, you can buy or sell items. The first choice is to buy and the second is to sell. Other than the "gift" you received after answering Rachel's questions, you have nothing to sell. You also don't want to sell that gift. It's usually something that can be equipped so equip someone with it. Now go buy something. You can buy a knife (30P), a staff (150P), and a robe (50P). Make sure both Landius and Ricky have a weapon and some kind of armor before going into battle. Equip using the equip option. 4 - Distribute commanders: The first mission is the only time you don't have to manually place commanders on the field map. You'll use this starting in mission 2. Commander placement will often determine success and failure in the later missions. If you're lazy and don't want to think about commander placement, select a commander, then press and hold XYZ to auto distribute. 5 - Save: Self-explanatory. At this point, you'll have the option to save your game before the battle. The first choice is "Internal RAM" and the second is, "Cartridge RAM." Where you want to save your game is your choice. Save your game now. 6 - Load: If you should happen to screw up during a mission, don't press reset - just load a saved game. 7 - Start battle: KICK ASS!!! First choice - Go go go, second choice - don't go yet. The soldiers that came to "collect" the taxes see a rebellion and they'll move to put down any resistance. The soldiers will have an argument with the mayor. Since the town is in rebellion, the soldiers plan to ransack the town after they're through. Rachel is locked in the church for her protection. The commander's menu (you'll see either Landius or Ricky's face) has six choices. Move Magic Attack Heal Summon Wait Grey choices mean that you can't select that on account that the character doesn't know how to use it (such as magic and summon). Moving is self- explanatory. Attack allows you to attack an enemy without moving if an enemy is within a character's attack range. Heal restores any lost HP and MP (3 HP, 2 MP restored per use). Wait allows you to hold off making a move for the moment. You'll be able to execute an action faster than another character that actually "moved" if you "wait." Press the Y button to display everyone's hit points. A "shoe" or "sword" icon indicates the commander. Kill the commander and the underlings will also die. Mercenaries will also have choices. Move Attack Move and attack are self-explanatory and identical to the commanders' choices. You you press left or right, you get three more choices. Orders End Wait "Orders" allows you to give automatic commands to mercenaries. The commands are: Standard Battle Defense Manual Standard - makes mercenaries attack enemies with low HP Defense - positions themselves directly next to the commanders and will not initiate an attack on enemies Battle - a little more active than "standard" but will not initiate a disadvantageous fight Manual - will not initiate an automatic move "End" will allow you to "enact" whatever orders you gave to your mercenaries in "orders." "Wait" was explained earlier - it makes the units wait for 20 counts. As for the magic, if you can't read Japanese, go to the instruction booklet. If you refuse to learn some level of Japanese, then you're not doing yourself any favors (in other words, you're screwed). Hopefully, you can look at the instruction booklet and compare the Japanese characters when the magic list pops up during the game. Go to pages 22 and 23 of the instruction booklet. Some magic affects one group and some magic affects all characters in a specific area. The "area" magic can be cast whether there's an enemy nearby or not. The "group" magic can only be cast if there's a particular group that you want to cast the magic on within the radius of your magical abilities. On page 22, "A" refers to the fact that the spell can be cast very quickly and "D" refers to the fact that it takes a long time to cast such a spell. "B" is average and "C" is slow. The chart follows this pattern: Name of spell, type of spell, range of spell, the range of the spell from the center of where the spell was cast from (a number indicates the radius and others indicate multiple units or a single unit), who it affects (enemy or friend), how many MP it takes, how long it takes to cast the spell (A, B, C, D), and what the spell does. I didn't bother writing in the "type" of magic for some of the more obvious types of magic. I also didn't write in how many MP each spell will take since that's written in the instruction booklet. ----- Attack Magic ----- Fire (hits one enemy) Fireball (hits multiple enemies in a given area) Freeze (hits one enemy group) Blizzard (hits multiple enemies in a given area) Thunder (hits one enemy group) Thunderstorm (hits multiple enemies in a given area) Windcutter (hits one enemy) Tornado (hits multiple enemies) Earthquake (type: earth; hits multiple enemies) Meteor (type: physical attack; hits multiple enemies) Holyblaze (type: holy; hits multiple enemies) Turn Undead (type: holy; Annihilates all undead monsters within the range of the commander's field of command) HP Drain (type: mental; drains HP from enemies) MP Drain (type: mental; drains MP from enemies) Blast (type: physical; hits one enemy with an energy burst) ----- Attack Support Magic (all spells here are type: mental) ----- Sleep (puts multiple enemies in a given range to sleep) Confuse (makes one enemy group attack units without discrimination) Zone (reduces an enemy commander's "field of command") Mute (stops an enemy from casting magic for a short period of time) Decline (reduces one enemy group's resistance of magic by 30 points) Slow (reduces one enemy group's movement to 1/2) ----- Defense Magic ----- Protection1 (increases one group's defensive rating by 3 points) Protection2 (one group's defense +5) Attack1 (one group's offense +3) Attack2 (one group's offense +5)] Quick (one groups movement +5) Resist (increases one group's resistance to magic by 30 points) ----- Recovery Magic ----- Heal1 (heals units in range up to 3HP) Heal2 (heals all units in range to full health) Forceheal1 (heals one group up to 3HP) Forceheal2 (heals one group to full health) Cure (negates all negative status) ----- Other Magic ----- Teleport (teleports units in the spell's radius) Again (the unit that this was cast on is able to move) ----- Summons (Note: these are not all of them) ----- Summon1 (pick between a Pixie and a Slaipniel) Summon2 (Jinn or Valkyrie) Summon3 (Flayer or Phoenix) Summon4 (Spider or Hornt) Summon5 (Medusa or Lilith) Summon6 (Fenril or Ylmgald) Other summons are possible by combining items. After you're able to cast magic, if you press the B button, you get two choices: 1 - wait, 2 - cancel. If you don't want to do either and want to cast the spell immediately, press B again, move the cursor to whoever you want to cast the spell on, then press C. By pressing the B button, you can "cancel" certain actions and/or "go back" to a particular decision. If you press the B button while it's your turn to make a certain action during battle, you can move the cursor off whatever character the cursor was on. You can move the cursor to an enemy unit to see the stats or you can move the cursor to absolutely nowhere and press C. You can then get a menu. 1.) Win/lose conditions, 2.) Save, 3.) Load, 4.) Config. The config menu is also available before you play the game but you can config the game without having to go back to the title screen. The config menu: (the ones highlighted in yellow is what the game is currently set on) Message speed: Slow, normal, fastest. (How fast text comes up; fastest recommended) Simulation speed: Normal, fast. (The speed of the game; fastest recommended) Battle scenes: On, real, off. (There's not much of a difference, if any, between "on" and "real." "Off" cuts down on load times.) Voices: On/Off (The voices of the characters in the game; dialogue setting) BGM: Stereo, mono. (I don't need to explain this) Information bar: 1, 2, 3, 4. (This is your preference) If you want to move the cursor back to your character, press L or R. After you defeat the soldiers that are initially in the town, Gizarov, Kreuger, and a slew of tough enemies will appear. At this point in the game, these enemies are waaaaaaay too strong. Gizarov will teleport, steal the "scholar's crystal" and kidnap Rachel. Your win-lose conditions will now change. Winning condition: Landius and Ricky both escape down south Losing condition: Landius or Ricky is killed It's possible to defeat Kreuger but that won't stop the rest of the forces from attacking. For now, it's best to just make Landius and Ricky go south. Defeat any "wimp soldiers" you meet on your way south since it's a chance to gain experience. Hidden items: There are two. One is in a garbage bin to the right of a house. It's the house directly south to where Landius started the game. Once you get to the garbage bin, you'll get some choices. I'll just explain what you get depending on what you choose. 1.) Max MP +1, 2.) Knife, 3.) Nothing. There's another hidden item far east of the town, where the stone steps are located. In order to get there, you must go south of town, then walk around to get to the stone step area. There, you'll have some choices. 1.) Fire orb, 2.) Attack +2, 3.) Speed boots, 4.) Nothing. If you want the hidden item located far east at the stone steps, it's best to do so before the initial soldiers Gizarov sent are annhilated. After both Landius and Ricky make it down south, you clear the scenario. Lanford sees the situation and thinks that Gizarov planned on the townspeople rebelling (he's right). He runs into Landius and Ricky. Lanford then tells them to hide as Gizarov's soldiers pursues them. After they hide, the soldiers ask Lanford if he saw two young men running away. Lanford says no. The soldiers go away. Landius and Ricky come out of the bushes. Lanford suspects that Landius and Ricky really aren't brothers. It is revealed that Landius is an orphan that was raised by Ricky's father after a flood had killed Landius' parents. Landius and Ricky explain to Lanford what had happened and Lanford explains that he cannot help anymore since he can't interfere with anything that happened on Gizarov's property. Landius and Ricky say their thanks anyway since Lanford had helped them. In the meantime, Defense Secretary Reverse received a letter saying that Queen Caconsis is gravely ill. He gives the hostages permission to leave Regenburg to go see their mother. On the road, Ricky will ask what you plan to do next. 1 - Run from the federation's troops ==> No change 2 - See what the situation is for a while ==> Rachel's love index -1 3 - Rescue Rachel ==> Rachel's love index +1 Ricky will ask if you've felt that "dad," Ricky and Rachel were people who can't be considered, "family." 1 - Of course not. 2 - Yes. It doesn't matter, but choose 1. Ricky then asks where Landius came from - Landius explains that he's apparently from a town called Recreo. He explains that a flood washed him and his mother down. She died after swimming ashore while carrying Landius. Gizarov gives instructions to his minions to watch over Rachel. He also plots to take over the Defense Secretary's seat. You'll now come to a save location. 1 - Internal RAM 2 - Cartridge RAM Where you want to save your game is your choice. Once you make your selection, 1 - Next scenario 2 - Save slot 1 3 - Save slot 2 4 - Save slot 3 _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 2 ----- On their way to Caconsis, Wheeler suspects something fishy and smells a trap. The letter stating that Queen Caconsis is sick should have come into Wheeler's hands and not into the hands of Secretary Reverse. He thinks that the letter was a fake and was devised by someone who wants to create an excuse to declare war on Caconsis. He asks Selena to move on ahead to see about his suspicions. In the meantime, Gizarov visits King Cleones. Gizarov puts Cleones under his spell and makes him a puppet. Landius and Ricky are on their way to pay a "visit" to Gizarov's mansion. Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing condition: Death of Landius Landius and Ricky will be confronted by federation soldiers. After killing a few of them, reinforcements will come in. McLaine will also make an appearance in the scenario. McLaine will ask what you're doing. You answer... 1 - I'm off to rescue my sister. 2 - I don't need to answer! Choose 1. McLaine will tell you the affinity/theory of battles. Spearmen are strong versus horsemen, horsemen are strong against swordsmen, and swordsmen are strong against spearmen. Take this theory and burn it into your brain since you'll be using it a lot. After beating up on the enemies, more reinforcements will appear. You might want to attempt to find the hidden item located in the upper-left section of the map. 1.) Star pierce, 2.) nothing. After the battle, McLaine will join your party. In the meantime, Selena will be attacked by federation troops. Wheeler's suspicions were on the mark. She kicks some ass. Selena gets away and Kreuger makes an appearance. He orders to have some bandits hired to kill off the Cancosis princesses. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 3 ----- Gizarov brings troops and confronts Secretary Reverse. Gizarov attempts to arrest Reverse for treason (he let the princesses go back to Caconsis). As "proof," Gizarov presents a letter which says that Reverse was plotting to overthrow the federation with help from Caconsis - and the "sign" was the release of the princesses (the letter is faked and the whole thing is BS, but no one other than Gizarov knows that). Reverse resists arrest and Gizarov zaps him. Reverse dies. Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing conditions: Death of Landius, death of NPC (Non-Player Character) The non-player characters in this mission are Wheeler, Shelfaniel, and Angelina. Battle tactic: Have Landius hire troopers, have Ricky and McLaine hire standard swordsmen. You may think, "Then what do I hit the enemy horsemen with?" In this mission, there is only one squadron of horsemen. Once they're gone, you'ce faced with swordsmen/fighters and spearmen. Having spearmen in your team will only help you against horsemen and there aren't too many enemy horsemen in this mission. Have Landius and his troopers waste the enemy troopers. Level up Ricky and McLaine by having them and their mercenaries kill the non-horseback troops. Some of the soldiers are strong so have Landius kill or weaken a few soldiers and let Ricky or McLaine finish them off. If Landius has a Heal1 spell, he can use that frequently and level up while the other two guys level up by killing enemies. Ricky falls in love with Shelfaniel at first sight ^_^ After the battle, Landius and company are thanked for their assitance. Wheeler will explain how they were set up and lured into a trap. They will explain each others' situations to one another and they're about to go the separate ways... but Angelina stops Landius. Angelina decides to repay her debt to Landius by tagging along in his mission to save Rachel. Shelfaniel agrees to help as well. Angelina and Shelfaniel will now join your party. In the meantime, Gizarov is at his laboratory. Kreuger meets up with him to take him back to the castle. Kreuger will inform Gizarov of the princesses' escape. Gizarov gets upset, then looks to the future - since he is about to become the new Defense Secretary. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 4 ----- King Cleones determines that the "letter written to Reverse" is a genuine Caconsis document. Cleones is convinced that Reverse intended to overthrow the federation kingdom. Cleones commends Gizarov of his "good work." In order to recognize his work, Gizarov is appointed the new Secretary of Defense. Since there's now a general's spot available, Kreuger is appointed a general to take the spot Gizarov once occupied. The other generals present (Ardan, Lanford) have no objections. Gizarov gives a speech. He suggests that Caconsis must be crushed. Ardan agrees. Cleones declares war on Caconsis. Later on, Frederick, Ardan, and Rosensil have a conversation. Frederick doubts Reverse's intent to overthrow the federation. Frederick leaves. Rosensil wonders if a war is about to start. Ardan says yes. Rosensil doesn't want Ardan to go to war because she's afraid he'll die in battle (she's in love with him). In the meantime, Lanford also doubts Reverse had a treacherous intent. The document was determined to be genuine - so Lanford has deeper doubts because it seems too "convinient" for Gizarov. Winning condition: Kill the magician Reese (she's the magician Gizarov talked to at his laboratory) Losing conditions: Death of Landius, Reese escapes to the top of the map During the battle, Rachel will say, "You came for me despite the danger..?" You reply... 1 - Of course ==> Rachel's love index +1 2 - Ricky wouldn't get off my case ==> Rachel's love index -1 3 - Just be patient a little longer ==> Rachel's love index +1 Battle strategies: Have Angelina hire fairies. Have Angelina and her fairies fly across the outside of the laboratory's fence (to the left). Your targets are the magician (Reese) and the bowmen. Have your other forces fend off the remaining troops. Since you're pressed against time, you can't always afford the luxury of building up experience points by taking out the commander's troops, then hitting the commander. If you're good and can afford the time, then build up some experience by doing so. Otherwise, don't be shy about hitting enemy commanders with a vengeance. Have Shelfaniel hit enemies with the fire spell. Use spearmen to hit the horsemen and use swordsmen to hit the spearmen (standard strategy). While the bulk of your troops are fending off the forces that are portecting Reese, have Angelina catch up to Reese. Once she catches up, attack the bowmen. Have the fairies attack the bowmen as well. The idea is to fly in toward the bowmen and hit them before they can hit you. After the bowmen are finished off, heal any injuries Angelina and the fairies have sustained. After that, hit Reese with full force. If Landius has the Heal1 spell and if the rest of your troops managed to finish off the forces protecting Reese, have Landius cast Heal1 on Angelina and the fairies to save some time. Once you annihilate the orginal forces, reinforcements will arrive from the north. You'll want to kill Reese long before the horsemen can reach her with assitance. If at any point in the battle, if Wheeler is placed in danger, Angelina will say that he's in danger. You say... 1 - Let's have him fight ==> Angelina's love index -1 2 - Let's save him ==> no change (Wheeler's a smart cookie but he's physically a wimp.) After the battle, McLaine will want to look inside the laboratory. McLaine will find a ring - that once belonged to his sister. (Play Langrisser V for more details about his sister.) McLaine will explain his memory loss and how he ended up being a "cyborg." He knows that something happened in this laboratory but can't remember what had happened. King Caconsis will be surprised to see his daughters. Queen Caconsis is healthy. Wheeler says that it was a trap afterall. A messager bursts in and explains that the federation is attacking. Caconsis orders Wheeler to go apologize to King Cleones but the princesses protest - saying that would be like walking to his death. General Bruno intervenes and says that he'll go apologize for the kingdom. Wheeler gives Bruno a teleport ring, just in case something happens. Wheeler later requests you to observe the federation troops' movement. He himself can't take the action because he cannot do anything without the *incompetent* king's permission. You reply... 1 - Well, if you want us to do it... ==> Angelina and Shelfaniel's love index +1 2 - This has nothing to do with us == > Angelina and Shelfaniel's love index - 1 In the meantime, Ardan visits Gizarov. Gizarov orders Ardan to lead the charge against Caconsis. Gizarov gives Ardan 20,000 troops but wonders how many of them can actually fight, given that that supply lines are limited. Gizarov intends for Ardan to have a hard time, then have Kreuger step in to save the day. Wheeler and Selena have their "moment." ^_^ Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 5 ----- Bruno returns - with bad news. King Caconsis gets upset. Wheeler suggests to plan out a battle strategy against the federation. Caconsis becomes infuriated even further, saying that there's no way he's going to approve a "risky" plan that Wheeler had in mind. Caconsis then says that he'll plan out a strategy himself (yeah, as if he could). Ricky and McLaine return from their "watch" over the town of Moldena. Moldena is apparently the federation's "information center." If the troops at Moldena fall, the other federation troops will not be able to exchange information. Rachel wonders why the federation doesn't attack immediately. You reply... 1 - They're waiting for the right moment ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel's love index +1 2 - Because they can't make up their minds ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel's love index -1 3 - Because they haven't received their orders ==> no change Angelina and Rachel go off to their watch. Landius asks McLaine why he's hanging around since he has nothing to do with Caconsis or the federation. McLaine explains his memory loss, what his reaction was when he first discovered he was a cyborg, and the only reason he's hanging around is because he hates Gizarov for turning him into a "freak" and killing his sister (play Langrisser 5 to find out more about his sister). Ardan is about to approach Castle Caconsis. Ardan's army has been split up into numerous factions in an attempt to gather as much information as possible before attacking. He orders his messenger to deliver his orders to the other factions - the command to attack Caconsis. Back at Castle Caconsis, Wheeler asks King Caconsis if he will give out orders for military action. Caconsis then orders Wheeler to use the plan Wheeler originally came up with. Wheeler explains that too much time has passed and the plan can no longer be used. Caconsis doesn't care and wants Wheeler do so something. Wheeler is confident something can be done since Landius is lurking within Ardan's information center. Wheeler's idea is to have Landius crush the information center so Ardan's troops separated from the main force will not receive the orders to attack. This will lessen the number of soldiers Ardan will have when attacking Castle Caconsis. Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing conditions: Death of Landius, an enemy escapes to the edge of the map Don't forget to equip Rachel with a staff and a robe before going into battle. Battle strategies: You'll have to split your forces into three. I usually have the Landius-Shelfaniel, Ricky-McLaine, and Rachel-Angelina pairings. If that pairing doesn't work for you, then pick the ones that do. One group of horsemen will try to escape by trying to walk over the northern river. Rivers slow horsemen down so don't worry too much about them at the beginning of the battle. There will be a number of soldiers you'll have to fight here so be on your guard. After defeating some groups of enemies, the enemies in the middle will try to escape by one of the exits - east, west, or south. Kill the commanders' minions first, then go after the commanders to build up the maximum experience and money. Hit the commanders exclusively only when you're in a bind. Just remember the horsemen-swordsmen-spearmen battle tactic since this will help you a lot in this mission. Once the enemies in the middle are on the move, use whatever means necessary - even killing commanders - to slow them down. If you leveled up Shelfaniel enough, she'll be able to cast offensive magic that hits more than one enemy so use the spells to slow the enemies down long enough to bring up your reinforcements. (I actually turned Landius into a sorcerer from a knight - he's no longer on horseback but he can cast a fireball spell.) It doesn't matter which forces get annihilated first; just hit whatever forces you can hit. Angelina and/or Landius is/are best suited to pursue the horemen trying to escape over the river. Just be careful of or units' HP when attacking horsemen with non-spearmen units. After the battle, Ardan will wonder why reinforcements haven't arrived. Noyman will arrive and inform Ardan that his forces have been annihilated. Ardan will see that the battle is pointless and retreat. Back at Wheeler's room, wheeler will thank you for your good work. You reply... 1 - It was an easy win ==> Rachel's love index +1 2 - You're welcome ==> Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index +1 3 - It was tough ==> Rachel, Shelfaniel, and Angelina's love index -1 Wheeler is having a personal dilemma over not being able to communicate his orders over longer distances quickly. McLaine will know of magical mirrors that will allow instant communication. You will now be off to find the mirrors. Back at the federation castle, Ardan will come back in disgrace. Gizarov hands down his punishment. Gizarov demotes him from the general's position and makes him general Burke's underling. Ardn has an extreme distaste for this punishment because Ardan is a classic "noble" that refuses to take orders from a commoner (Burke is a commoner that worked his way up to becoming a general). Ardan would prefer to die that to serve under a "commoner." He requests that he be transferred to general Lanford's care. Gizarov agrees to Ardan's request and informs him that Lanford's army is about to move out. _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 6 ----- At Lanford's HQ, Emily informs Lanford that the army is ready to go. Lanford requests Emily to deliver a battle report to general Burke. Emily wonders why Lanford doesn't do that himself (it's customary for a general to deliver such messages to another general personally). Lanford knows Burke very well and figures Burke will just be in a bad mood if he delivered the message himself. (Burke, on the opposite end of the Spectrum, hates nobles as much as Ardan hates commoners.) When Emily meets Burke, Burke will figure that Lanford will screw up like Ardan. Burke will wonder if Emily knows what he's talking about and calls her a "rich girl from a good family." Emily will inform Burke that she is not from a noble family. She will explain that she was an orphan and came from a village that was destroyed by a flood. She explains that she had parents and a younger brother. ^_^ (If you don't know what the smiley face is for, go back and re-read the end portion of "Scenario 1.") Emily will also say that even Lanford doesn't know about her origins since he would never pick those who serve him based on their backgrounds. Emily will now excuse herself since she must go to battle. At Castle Caconsis, King Caconsis will laugh his ass off since 10,000 Caconsis troops defeated the 20,000 federation troops. Wheeler is afraid that the federation will attempt another attack soon. King Caconsis says not to worry because he has a "cunning" plan. He suggests drawing the enemy out again. Wheeler knows better and says the same plan will not work twice. King Caconsis will get upset since he doesn't like to be contradicted (especially when evidence proves he's an idiot). Ardan is about to take off for battle - again. Princess Rosensil makes an appearance. Ardan says that he has no right to be in her presence since he has disgraced himself. He wants to go into battle and polish himself - so he may be "worthy" of the princess' company. Rosensil says that she'll be waiting. Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing condition: Death of Landius By defeating enemies, you should have been able to get a hold of a long sword and a necklace in the previous scenario. Equip Angelina with them. The long sword will increase Angelina's offensive points by 4 and the necklace increases the "commander's field of command." The wide command will become very helpful for Angelina's sky troops. The mirror McLaine heard about at one time is beyond the river. The "fort" in this area is manned by General Burke's soldiers. Battle strategies: This place is somewhat heavily fortified - and the magicians paired with archers don't make the mission easy. Hire sky archers for Angelina and attempt to take out the magicians immediately. (If you're a "close combat" type, hire fairies since they have a higher defensive rating.) After killing a good number of enemies, Burke will make his appearance with pike soldiers and a set of horsemen. Burke's pike soldiers are stronger than the standard pike soldiers you've faced so far so your standard swordsmen won't have an advantage against them. When you attempt to take out the magicians, someone or someone's units will get hit. Patiently recover HP by healing and inch toward the magicians. If you get close enough, a sea unit will come to attack you. Archers of your own will come in handy here. Be careful if the enemy magicians casts "Mute" because that'll cripple your own magicians. Hire as many archers as you can to take out enemy archers (make sure your archers' HP is higher than enemy archers; cast magic on enemy archers to reduce their HP), then shave off enemies' HP when Burke arrives. I said, "shave" because they almost won't do any damage to Burke, the pikes, and the horsemen. Make sure the archers are inside the commander's field of command so the offensive statistics are at maximum when the attacks are unloaded. After killing the enemies in the fort and the sea soldiers, You can take Angelina and her archers toward water and have her sky archers pick off Burke and company while they're trying to cross the bridge. Land troops are slowed down significantly by water so it won't be easy for Burke to get to you. Make sure the sky archers are within Angelina's field of command. Use offensive magic spells to shave down more enemy HP and finish them off with archers or commanders. If you don't like using archers or don't have many, use the physical approach and use the Horsemen - spearmen - swordsmen tactic. Burke is a foot soldier (you can consider him a foot soldier except he's a lot more powerful) so Landius and his troopers are best suited to take him on directly. Use magic to support your offensive party to club the enemies to their deaths. Once Burke is defeated, he'll retreat. In the meantime, Lanford is at a sea port. His tactic is an "economic saction" against Caconsis. He fortified Caconsis' sea port in order to cripple Caconsis' economy. Lanford is impressed with the fact that Caconsis has beaten off Ardan since Caconsis is a tiny little country. Emily informs him that Wheeler is in command of Caconsis' army. Wheeler and Lanford were classmates at the military academy. In the meantime, in King Caconsis' room... Queen Caconsis asks her husband when he'll give out the orders. She's worried that at this rate, economic chaos will unsettle the citizens of Caconsis. King Caconsis says that the citizens must be patient. The Queen then says in order to protect their own territories, the nobles may decide to team up with the federation. Hearing this, King Caconsis immediately sends out the orders for Wheeler. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 7 ----- Wheeler, Selena, and Bruno are waiting for King Caconsis. They are getting bored. King Caconsis appears, then blah blah blah blah blah blah... (nothing they don't already know about economic sanctions)... then demands some water. Caconsis demands they do something about it. Gizarov has a guest. It is Gendrasil, a sinister god. Gendrasil is helping Gizarov for an unknown reason (currently, anyway). Gendrasil and Gizarov currently have similar goals. Gizarov tells Gendrasil to get lost if he doesn't have any business. Kreuger enters. Gizarov tells Kreuger to marry Princess Rosensil. Gizarov has already captured the military's power and now wishes to capture political power. Kreuger understands the plan. With Ardan disgraced and out of the way, the only other candidate to marry the Princess is Russel (who will appear later in the game). Russel is not considered much competition. Kreuger requests that he have an opportunity to meet the Princess on some occasion. Gizarov says to leave it to him. On their way to retrieve the mirror, Rachel says that she's tired. You reply... 1 - I'll carry you ==> Rachel's love index +1, Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index -1 2 - Bear with it ==> no change 3 - Stop your whining ==> Rachel's love index -1, Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index +1 4 - I'm tired too ==> Rachel, Shelfaniel, & Angelina's love index -1 The women at this point are pissed off (especially Angelina) because they've been walking for a long time. You'll be faced against bandits in this mission. Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing conditions: Death of Landius, the mirror is stolen and the bandits escape to the edge of the map Battle strategies: Hiring pike soldiers in this mission won't come in very handy since you won't face many horsemen. You can choose to hire pike soldiers but it will be tough to kill other troops once the horsemen are gone. If you choose to hire pike soldiers, fine - you'll have them as insurance against horsemen but remember that Ricky (if he leveled up and you turned him into a Gladiator) or McLaine won't be able to gain much experience if pike soldiers are hired. If you choose not to hire pike soldiers, use Landius and/or his troopers to kill the enemy horsemen. Use magic to take them out as well. The bandits will move separately. You'll have to split up your forces in order to go after them. Some of the bandits will encounter Gels that will slow them down to a degree. Let the bandits fight the gels and pick off the other bandits. The bandits won't be slowed down by the gels forever. You'll eventually have to kill the bandits yourself. Killing the gels is optional but you might want to do that to gain experience and to get them out of the way. After some time, Burke will appear with pike soldiers, a magician (with archers), and horsemen. Use the ruins as a "bottleneck" so that you can prevent Burke's units from hitting you all at once. Heal spells will come in very useful here. While you're fighting Burke, you'll also have to worry about the leader of the bandits (the one in the center ruin - he has the mirror). You can slow him down quite a bit by casting the 1MP fire spell Shelfaniel has. Slow the bandit down long enough for you to finish off Burke's forces. You'll probably want to kill off the archers ASAP as well. Who you eliminate first - Burke or the bandit leader - is entirely up to you. After the batte, Wheeler wants the enemy to know that they're going a particular route - because he has a plan. Wheeler will ask you to participate in the next battle. You reply... 1 - No way ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel, & Selena's love index -1 2 - Can't be helped ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, & Selena's love index +1 3 - I don't mind ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel, & Selena's love index +1 Emily informs Lanford that a part of their forces barely escaped a battle. Lanford thinks that the "information units" of their forces were let go by Wheeler on purpose - to let the federation know their movements. Emily figures that would give them (the federation) the advantage and wonders if it's a trap. Lanford says that if the battle takes place at the seaport, the port's usefulness will decline and there will be many civilian casualties. Lanford decides to "fall" for the trap and take the fight to Oshole Mountain - which is federation territory (making the supply lines short). Lanford does not want to get civilians involved into the fight either. Lanford knows that Wheeler made his plans by reading Lanford's personality - and says what a nice guy he is for "falling" into Wheeler's "trap." Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 8 ----- Kreuger meets Rosensil at night. Kreuger says that she had some people worried since she wasn't present at the party (they apparently threw one). Kreuger thinks that he's disliked. Rosensil says that she doesn't hate him - she just wants to be alone. Kreuger turns on his "charm," then excuses himself. On the battlefield... Ardan requests to be placed in command scouts. Lanford hesitates to do so because of the danger. Ardan is aware of the danger but wishes to redeem himself. Lanford then agrees to put Ardan in command. He also informs Ardan that he will now take orders from Emily (his second in command). Ardan thanks Lanford and Lanford tells him not to take risks. Lanford leaves. Ardan asks Emily what noble family she comes from. Emily says that she's an orphan and has no idea what her background is. Ardan can't believe that Lanford would put "such a person in command." Emily informs Ardan that she is currently his commanding officer. Ardan doesn't think that Emily is as good as tactician as him since he comes from a "great, noble family." Emily reminds Ardan that this was Lanford's decision - and asks if he has any problems with it. Ardan gives in and requests orders. A Caconsis army scout says that 20,000 troops have split into two and 10,000 soldiers are approaching - from two sides. Wheeler decides to confront one of the split groups (Lanford's) and asks Landius to strike the scouting troops of the other group (Emily's). (By striking the scouting troops Ardan is leading, the troops led by Emily can be slowed down - and Wheeler won't have to face both Lanford and Emily.) Winning condition: Kill Ardan Losing condition: Death of Landius You should have picked up a Runestone if you defeated all the bandits in the previous mission. If you equip someone with this item, you can "redo" a character's character promotion. This item is useful if you think you made a mistake in choosing a particular class promotion. During a normal game, this item won't come in very handy. This item will show its value if you use the level select cheat (see the end of this file) after you develop strong characters. You can get more than one in a game and if you want more, you can use the level select cheat to get many (*not* kidney) stones. If you don't feel like experimenting with it, sell it for a lot of money. Buy wands (800P each) and equip Shelfaniel and Rachel with it. The staff (150P) increases a character's magic range by 1 and the wand increases the range by 2. It'll be well worth buying wands. Before the battle, you'll be asked if you want to say something to someone. 1 - Shelfaniel ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 2 - Angelina ==> Angelina's love index +1 3 - Rachel ==> Rachel's love index +1 4 - Someone else ==> No change Battle strategies: This particular mission requires patience. There will be many horsemen in this battle. To make life difficult, foot soldiers (no, they're only wearing green armor; they have nothing to do with those stupid turtles) will accompany the horsemen. From the north, two sets of horsemen and one set of foot soldiers will attack. Have McLaine hire pike soldiers and wait... and wait... and wait. You don't want to take the fight north because if you go too far north, Ardan's magician will waste you with the tornado spell. Let the enemy come to you and do not go after the enemy yet. To back up McLaine, use Shelfaniel's black magic to weaken horsemen and foot soldiers. Use Angelina and her sky archers as backup if necessary. Over from the east, another set of horsemen will attack. The foot soldiers will be significantly behind the two groups of horsemen that attack from the east so use Landius and another party member as backup. If you promoted Ricky to a warrior class, he will be able to hire pike soldiers of his own. If you promoted him to a magician class, he'll be able to hire archers. Use the archers to pick off the horsemen. Placing him to back up McLaine or Landius will be your choice (in other words, do whatever works best for you). By placing Rachel in between the north and east parties, she'll be able to heal injured party members on both sides. With Angelina's (and the sky archers') movement abilities, she can easily back up party members who run into trouble (though one problem is the fact that her "judgment" statistic is low and her "turn" doesn't come as quickly as you want it to). After picking off the enemies one by one, enemy flying units will come by. They're not very strong so hit them with magic, then strike with your units. Unless you plan to strike the commander and forsake the extra experience points from defeating units individually, do not use Angelina to hit the fliers - yet. Use the lightning or fireball spell to weaken them, then use Angelina's Sky archers to pick them off. Ardan's magician will be an annoying enemy. As the battle progresses, she and her archers will try to climb over the mountain. Zap the magician with lightning or fireballs, then have Angelina's sky archers finish off the magician. Don't bother being anal about defeating the magician's archers for extra experience. Just hit the magician and get her out of the way. Since you don't need to kill her to beat this mission, if you don't want to bother sending Angelina over, you can have one of your magicians cast "mute" and keep a distance away from the archers. While The enemy magician muddles over what to do next, hit Ardan. Ardan's pike soldiers will be slightly stronger than the normal ones so take caution when attacking them. After you waste the bulk of Ardan's forces, Ardan and his spearmen won't be much of an obstacle. Hidden item: There's a dwarf living in a cave on the northwest section of the map. (Pardon me since I'm doing this part by memory.) The dwarf in the cave tells you to get out. 1 - get out, 2 - refuse. Choose 1 (choosing two will get you nothing). After deciding to get out, the dwarf will give you a few choices (spring cleaning ^_^). 1 - Megingyols (lighting-based armor), 2 - Runstone, 3 - nothing. After the battle, Landius wonders why the "left army" (led by Emily) hasn't arrived yet. Shelfaniel wonders if the enemy is taking caution, thereby slowing them down. McLaine says that when he went out scouting, he couldn't see an enemy at all. Landius communicates with Wheeler via the "magic mirror." Landius informs wheeler of the "strange" situation. Selena wonders why the "other" army hasn't shown up. Wheeler figures out that he was outwitted by Lanford - and Ardan was used as a decoy. Wheeler says that the army that Landius was supposed to spot is headed south - to attack Castle Caconsis. Wheeler asks both Selena and Landius to go back to the castle. Lanford is informed that Emily's army is processeding toward Castle Caconsis, as planned. He's also informed that Ardan has died in battle. He immediately orders that this news be sent back to their home castle. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 9 ----- A messenger from Selena's units arrive. Since it will take too long for her to arrive back at the castle, she is asking Landius to defend it while she picks off the supply lines of Emily's army. King Cleones is very sick - and he's determined not to die until he sees his daughter married. A castle guard delivers the news - of Ardan's death. General Burke is also informed of Ardan's death. (As a side note, Burke is impressed with Lanford's "economic sanctions" plan.) Winning condition: Incapcitate Emily Losing condition: Death of Landius, death of King Caconsis Battle strategies: You have to defend the castle and stop Emily from killing fatass Caconsis. Here's my recommended "commander placement," from left to right - Landius, Shelfaniel, McLaine, Ricky, Rachel, Angelina. On the left side, a Hawk Knight and his minions will attempt to invade the castle. Use Landius and his units to waste them. (Alternatively, you can use Shelfaniel's magic and have her keep casting "thunder" since the thunder spell will take 5HP away from the Hawk Lord per cast.) After they're gone, you'll want to turn your attention to the two Dragon Knights that will fly into the castle from the upper left side. If Landius and his mercenaries are all horsemen, they'll be slowed down significantly (horsemens' movements are slowed down when indoors) so don't take too much time defeating the Hawk Knight because you'll want to be able to hit the Dragons quickly. On the right side, a magician (with two archers) and a slew of foot soldiers will attempt to invade. The bulk of the foot soldiers will drag their feet. Have Angelina move, then wait at a distance beyond the archers' range. In the next turn, the magician will attempt to cast magic. Before that can happen, swoop in and hit the magician personally. Angelina will take damage (up to 9HP) but she shouldn't die. After that, have her sky archers concentrate their attacks on the magician. Don't bother trying to hit the magician's archers. After the magician and her archers are gone, make Angelina move back into the castle and have her heal up. You won't have to worry about the foot soldiers attacking from the right side for a while. In the middle, you'll face an onslaught of enemies. Another Hawk Knight will attempt to invade from approximately Rachel's position (if you followed my suggestions). Have Rachel's troops hit the Hawk Knight. It will be easy if Rachel was promoted to "Shaman" since she'll be able to hire Slingers (10P each) that can hit from a short distance. If not, have rachel heal her troops after attacking the Hawk Knight. Various troops will attempt to cross the bridge. In addition to horseback knights, foot soldiers and a magician will make your life hell. Cast "Mute" on the magician or use your offensive spells on the horseback knights while Rachel heals your troops from magic damage. If McLaine was promoted to a serpent class, have his "water" units (not the lizard men, though) wait in the water and have them hit the knights from water. If not, use pike soldiers to waste the horsemen. If Ricky was promoted to a warrior class, just hire standard swordsmen and have his group take out the foot soldiers and the magician. If Ricky was promoted to a magician class, hire archers and have the archers pick off the horsemen and the magician. After a while, Emily will be on the move. Hopefully, by this time, you killed the magicians. When Emily moves, pull all of your forces back into the castle. Cast magic and have miscellaneous units shave off Emily's HP. Since she and her horsemens' statistics a VERY high, you'll want to cast an offensive magic spell first, then have your units attack. Attacking a 10HP Emily (or her horsemen with 10HP) with one of your units is suicide. Note: If one of your commanders are capable of hiring archers, then equip that commander with a necklace since that increases a commander's field of command. The archers can then move a greater distance away from the commander but still reap the benefits of having a higher offensive statistic. This ability will be very helpful in many battles. Hidden items/other stuff: Note the upperleft goddess statue. 1 - I want to make by forces stronger ==> Good luck charm of the holy king (accesory item) 2 - A woman's feelings... ==> You'll then be prompted to another question. You'll be asked who's heart you want to capture. A - Shelfaniel ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 B - Angelina ==> Angelina's love index +1 C - Rachel ==> Rachel's love index +1 D - Selena ==> Selena's love index +1 3 - Well, nothing... ==> Nothing. It will be very difficult to actually get to the goddess statue without forsaking the defense of the castle. The upper right goddess statue will be... 1 - Tiara 2 - Mercenaries' magic defense +1 3 - "Holy" magic defense +10 4 - Nothing It'll be easier to get to this statue. Have Angelina visit it after she kills the magician. After the battle, Angelina suggests that they go after the enemy (sort of like twisting a knife after stabbing someone ^_^). As a reward for your good work, King Caconsis gives you... a whopping 100P (whoopee). Ricky says, "100P... We can buy a knife and a robe..." Lanford is informed that Emily's supply lines have been hit and is somewhat impressed with Wheeler's speedy military action. Lanford planned for such an event and plans to use whatever remains of Emily's forces to strike Caconsis once again. A messenger arrives for Lanford and talks about the Defense Secretary's son. Lanford asks, "What's the matter with Kreuger?" The messenger replies that he was referring to Secretary Reverse's son. Lord Alex gathered various nobles who were displeased with Reverse's punishment - and it's a matter of time before they attempt a coup d'e tat. Lanford intends to stop the coup from happening and leaves the battlefield. He places the messenger (he's apparently of high rank) in command and tells him to sandwich the enemy with the forces that are currently there and Emily's forces. Kreuger and Gizarov talk about their plans. Gizarov asks Kreuger about Rosensil. Kreuger asks for some more time because he does not intend to "have her" by force. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 10 ----- Kreuger and Rosensil spend more time with one another. Kreuger excuses himself. Prince Frederick enters. Rosensil feels that Kreuger is a nice man but Frederick thinks that he's up to something. Frederick just doesn't like Kreuger at all and says Russell is preferable to Kreuger. On the battlefield, Selena returns to Wheeler's side. He thanks her for defending the castle but she tells him that the princesses did that. Selena tells him that she just used one of Wheeler's ideas about hitting the supply lines. Landius informs Wheeler via the magic mirror he's currently in pursuit of Emily's forces. He's afraid that if he continues the pursuit, there's a possibility of running into a counterattack since Landius doesn't command a large number of soldiers. Wheeler asks to speak to Angelina. Wheeler asks where they are at the moment. They're at the "Bandits' Valley." Bandits no longer live there (Caconsis soldiers wasted them a few years ago). The roads are narrow and traveling in a large group is impossible. Wheeler talks about a fort located in the valley - a fort once used by Caconsis soldiers when they were out catching bandits. The weather is getting worse and Wheeler figures the enemy will use the fort as shelter for the night. With the narrow roads, the enemy forces will have to travel in a long, narrow line and will become separated on many occasions. If attacked anywhere, reinforcements cannot arrive immediately. The same goes for attacking forces but Landius commands small, quick, and efficient forces. By using the upcoming storm as their cover, they can move close upon the enemy without being detected for a while. Assuming that Landius wastes Emily's forces, Wheeler won't have to worry about getting sandwiched. Winning condition: Incapcitate Emily within 20 turns Losing conditions: Death of Landius or not incapacitating Emily within 20 turns The idea behind this mission is to waste Emily before her reinforcements arrive (thus, there's somewhat of a time limit as far as how long you can take to complete the mission). Your party memebers will talk about the fort Emily currently occupies. Aneglina will say that the fort lost its purpose the bandits were eradicated. Shelfaniel will say that she used the fort when she came to the mountains looking for vegetables/plants. You reply... 1 - How nostalgic ==> Rachel's love index -1 2 - If war didn't come... ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel, & Selena's love index +1 3 - I want to eat your home cookin' ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1, Angelina's love index -1 4 - No one asked anything about that ==> Shelfaniel's love index -1, Angelina's love index +1 Battle strategies: You'll face one group of horsemen, one group of flying units, and several groups of foot soldiers at the beginning. If you made it this far in the game, you shouldn't have too many problems wasting them. The problem will start once you attempt to hit the fort. There will be two magicians who will easily become your pet peeves in this mission. They are flanked by two archers each, making the approach a little difficult. In order to prevent your forces from being decimated, have someone who can cast the "mute" spell approach the fort from the side. (Depending on how you promoted your characters, Shelfaniel may not be the only person who can cast the mute spell.) If your forces are hit by magic, cast Heal1 to replenish their HP and to gain experience. Approach the fort but do not go into the enemy archers' range (just get close enough to cast magic). Have Angelina positioned so she's out of the range of archers but close enough to be able to appraoch the archers in the following turn. With the enemy magicians muted, bring Angelina close to the magician and the archers. Now use the sky archers (or firies) and hit the magician fast and hard. Use all 4 sky archers/fairies to hit the magician and she'll be toast. Assuming that you used the sky archers' maximum range to hit the magician, the archers flanking the other magicians will not attack Angelina or her sky archers (the same obviously can't be said for fairies). In the next turn, use Angelina and the sky archers in a similar manner to kill the second magician (as you already know, don't bother trying to get extra experience points by hitting the archers). Once they're gone, Use your other units to kill the pike soldiers and their commander (the commander is not a spearman). They will be a lot stronger than the other units you faced so far in this mission so have your magic users cast offensive magic to help your other units kill them. After the foot soldier/spearmen are out of the way, Emily and her horsemen are last. They will have very high statistics so cast magic against them in addition to hitting them physically. After the battle, Emily will ask you your name (whatever you entered; default is Landius). She'll disappear (I have no idea how she does that since she's not dead). In the meantime, Lanford doubts the situations of Reverse's death as well. Alex is pissed off at the fact his father was braded a traitor and killed. Alex intends to revolt. Lanford tries to convince Alex not to do so by telling him of the consequences to the people and the nobles who follow him. Alex changes his mind (one of his followers can't believe it). Lanford says that he will attempt to prove Reverse's innocense. Alex kills himself, hoping that Lanford will someday do just that. Emily hobbles back to Lanford. After Emily is taken away, Lanford asks how many troops are left. (A little over 10,000 - and possibly a few thousand more will come back if they wait.) Back at Castle Caconsis, King Caconsis is pleased with the results. Incompetent King Caconsis believes that thanks to him *cough cough*, the troops are performing well against the federation. Wheeler says the success is due to Landius' work and wishes to recognize him as an official military officer. King Caconsis refuses, saying that it's not necessary to do something like that for a nobody. King Caconsis plans on thanking Landius anyway and says that he added a little bit of "color" to it. You will receive 110P. Ricky says, "Well, what color is it?" and McLaine says, "Isn't it transparent? Well, it's not completely invisible." Lanford reports to Gizarov about losing the battle and the coup d'e tat. Gizarov understands and tells Lanford to rest for a while. He orders general Burke in. Gizarov figures the Cacosis members must be feeling good about themselves after defeating Ardan and Lanford. He now wishes for Burke and Kreuger to hit Caconsis. Gizarov wants Kreuger to hit Caconsis by sea while Burke goes by land. Kreuger will carry supplies for Burke' army so Burke will (supposedly) not have to worry about supply lines. The idea is to draw Caconsis' attention with the navy and while they're distracted, the army hits Caconsis - hard. Saisho has a guest. Those who have played the previous Langrisser series will know who he is. Saisho is dissatisfied with Gizarov's growing power. He is also not kosher about the idea that Gizarov is trying to get Kreuger to marry Rosensil. (With Ardan gone, Russell is supposed to be the #1 candidate for Rosensil's hand.) (Russell is the young guy in the room.) The "Mysterious Magician" doesn't care who the princess marries. Saisho's messenger (he looks like a bandit you fought in the "magic mirror" mission) arrives with new information. The messenger hesitates because the magician is in the room. Saisho says not to worry about him since the magician is cooperating. The messenger informs Saisho what Gizarov has commanded. Saisho does not like the fact that Gizarov plans to give the glory of defeating Caconsis to Kreuger. The magician says that he'll do something about the navy. The magician plans to help as long as he and Saisho have a common goal (they both hate Gizarov and want him out of the way). _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 11 ----- Back at Lanford's HQ, Emily is greeted by a soldier. He asks where she has been since he hasn't seen her around for a while. Emily says that she doesn't need to answer and commands him to get back to his post. Emily enters Lanford's office. Gizarov had sent the soldier - indicating Gizarov doesn't want Reverse's incident investigated. Emily reports nothing has turned up about the matter. There were no cases of someone in Gizarov's command meeting with someone from the Caconsis army. Lanford wonders if this means Reverse actually had planned to revolt or if Gizarov has been clever in hiding the truth. Emily says the one thing that seem odd at times is the fact that Gizarov spends some time alone in his room, kicking even his own son out. The reason given was that Gizarov doesn't want to be disturbed in his magical research. Lanford says that's odd since Kreuger was used as his assistant. First appearance of Listil: She sees the federation ships. The magician says that he didn't need to get involved if Listil had done her job. She apologizes and promises to do better next time. The magician is tired of hearing those words and is running out of patience. The magician looks toward the sea casts a spell. A storm arrives. Wheeler wishes to receive orders to send out a navy. King Caconsis refuses because according to him, it costs too much money. (Wheeler wants to fight a sea battle because it is one area Caconsis is better at than the federation.) A messenger arrives and says that a storm has sunk a bulk of the federation's ships. King Caconsis laughs, saying he knew about that in the first place (he didn't). The remaining federation ships have drifted away from one another and King Caconsis orders Wheeler to take on the federation ships. Landius and Bruno are to hit the separated federation ships. Selena wonders what she and Wheeler should do. Wheeler figures the federation will not just attack by sea. Selena goes off to prepare for a land battle. Wheeler then thinks about what a boob the king is - and is amazed that Shelfaniel and Angelina aren't f***ed up like their father. (I have a theory that the Queen had an affair - and neither one of them are King Caconsis' children; but that has nothing to do with playing the game. ^_^) Kreuger wonders what the hell happened. He is informed that many of the ships cannot travel at full speed or have sunk. The flying soldier spots Caconsis troops heading toward their direction. A woman is talking to Wheeler. Selena makes an appearance and she wonders who that woman was. He tells her that he told the woman something she didn't know. Selena thinks that they seemed to be "too close" just for something like that. (Female jealousy...) Winning condition: Incapacitate Kreuger Losing condition: Death of Landius NOTE: Whenever someone casts a powerful Thunderstorm spell, the game may seem like it crashed. It didn't. The game will "hang" for a few seconds but will eventually return to normal. (Saturn version) Battle strategies, part 1: Before the battle, you may want to go to the shop and buy a few amulets (it's shaped like a necklace but it's 1000P, while the normal necklace is 650P) if you can afford it (if you sold the Runestone, you'll have loads of money). If you can buy at least one, then buy it. The amulet increases the magic defense of any character by 20 points. Equip at least one of your commanders with it, preferably someone who is attacking Kreuger's ship first. There is a black magic magician at the front, Kreuger in the middle, and a white magic magician at the read of the enemy's ship. You don't have to worry about the white magic magician casting negative spells on you but the other two is another story. You typically want your "front lines" melee commanders to be equipped with the amulet since they will be the ones who will take the brunt of magic attacks. If you bought only one, then equip the commander with the lower magic defense. Keep in mind that if you equip someone with the amulet, then that commander won't have the benefit of using the necklace's "wider commander's field of command" since the necklace and amulet cannot be equipped on one character at the same time. Equip your commanders wisely. In addition, keep in mind that just because a commander's magic defense is higher (thanks to the amulet), that does not mean that the mercenaries the commander hired also have some protection from the amulet. The soldiers will have the same magic defense whether the commander is equipped with such an item or not. McLaine will annouce that the planks to the enemy's ship have been connected. Landius is impressed with the Caconsis' ship crew. Even Kreuger can't believe how good they are. Ricky notices something. He says that he recognizes the enemy commander. Landius does as well. Landius and Kreuger exchange words. Kreuger doesn't recognize Landius. Landius tells Kreuger that he's a survivor from Gotaal. Kueger then says he'll just kill them then. Battle strategies, part 2: Walking the planks can be somewhat hard and dangerous. If McLaine was promoted to a serpent class, then he can hire "water" soldiers to take on the sea units. If not, hire standard foot soldiers (not spearmen, since they'll only be good to strike Kreuger's horsemen). You'll want to pay attention to the black magic user at the front (top) of the boat since she'll hit Angelina's air units hard with wind magic. Don't let Angelina get hit by both magic and other enemy units. As for your other characters, having archers will come in handy in this mission. Some archers will get wasted but having a large number will ensure that some (and enough) will survive, enabling you pick off the enemies from a long ditance. If you lack archers, then use plenty of magic. It's almost inconceivable that you have no archers and effective magic spells. If you have both, your battles will become easier. Casting "Mute" on Kreuger and other magicians will be helpful to you during this mission. During the battle, enemy reinforcements will arrive. Angelina will ask what you want to do. 1 - The target is Kreuger! ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 2 - We'll annihilate the reinforcements as well! ==> Rachel's love index +1 3 - We'll draw them above the ship and fight them there! ==> Angelina's love index +1 After Kruger is wasted, he will escape. In the meantime, Burke's forces are getting a major can of ass whooping. Burke assumes that Kreuger was either defeated or he retreated. Back at Saisho's residence, Saisho receives news of how Kreuger's navy was defeated. Listil teleports in. She sees Saisho's messenger and assumes that Saisho received the news of Kreuger's navy. Saisho says, "That magician comes in handy," and Listil is annoyed at Saisho's lack of repect towards Boze... Fealart. (Bozel is the magician's "real" name but is going by the alias, Fealart. Those who have played Langrisser I, II, or III know that "Powell" is Bozel's other "real" name, but that is not brought up in this game. Listil almost made the mistake of revealing that Bozel is using an alias.) Listil warns Saisho of his attitude, then teleports away. Saisho does not like Listil's "cocky" attitude either. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 12 ----- Back at Lanford's HQ, Lanford receives news of Kreuger's defeat. Emily also reports that Burke probably did not receive word that Kreuger retreated. With the death or Ardan, Lanford knows that he will be in the palm of Gizarov's hand and does not want to see Burke fall as well. Emily suggests helping him but Lanford is hesitant because Burke HATES nobles (the exact opposite of Ardan). Emily says that this is no time to be puzzled over such a petty issue. At the seaport (Fidgit)... Landius is briefing the troops. Wheeler is setting up a perimeter to prevent Burke from escaping - and wants Landius to attack Burke. McLaine says that since they've already defeated Burke twice, there's no need to worry about it too much. Angelina is angered since such an attitude lets one's guard down. You reply... 1 - Yeah, we'd better not let our guard down ==> Shelfaniel's emotional scar index -1, Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index +1 2 - But it's true (meaning, it's easy) ==> Rachel's love index +1 3 - Well, it'll be another easy win for us ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1, Angelina's love index -1 As the party gets ready to go, Angelina asks Landius to stop. She wants to ask something. She'll ask if you (Landius) got lost in Bicose Forest about 10 years ago. 1 - I don't remember a thing like that ==> Nothing, skip the "Bicose Forest" section 2 - Me, lost? There's probably some mistake ==> Nothing, skip the "Bicose Forest" section 3 - How do you know about that? ==> Trigger Bicose Forest event If you want to go to route C or if you're after Angelina as your love interest, trigger the event. If you don't care, that's another story. ----- Bicose Forest event ----- It turns out that both Landius and Angelina once got lost in Bicose Forest. In the flashback, a young Angelina is crying because she's lost. A young Landius approaches her. She asks if Landius came to help her. Landius says that he's lost as well. Angelina cries again and asks her to stop. 1 - Hey, I'm with you, aren't I ==> No change 2 - If you cry so much, I won't help you! ==> Angelina's love index -1 3 - Let's find the exit together ==> Angelina's love index +1 Angelina will then ask which way you want to go and she will follow you. 1 - Let's go north! ==> Angelina's love index -1 2 - Let's go east! ==> Angelina's love index -1 3 - Let's go south! ==> Angelina's love index -1 4 - Let's go west! ==> Angelina's love index +2 After choosing west, Angelina will thank Landius for getting her out of the forest. Queen Caconsis and a soldier arrives. Landius gets scared and runs away. Angelina tries to explain that Landius helped her but notices that he's gone. Angelina finds a pendant that Landius dropped. ----- Bicose Forest event end ----- Landius now knows Angelina held on to the pendant all this time. She says she doesn't have it with her but has it stored in a safe place. Landius asks she return the pendant to him eventually since it used to belong to his mother. Landius says, "Let's go," and Angelina says she'll catch up with him. After Landius leaves, Angelina says she's always wearing the pendant - because its a memory that she shares with Landius. ----- This is where you would have skipped to if yout skipped the Bicose Forest event ----- Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: In order to win, you don't need to make mincemeat out of Burke. If you feel up to it, you can pound him into the ground but Burke is flanked by Phalanx troops - the strongest spearmen in the game. Although foot soldiers are supposed to have an advantage over spearmen, Phalanx troops have a high offense and are heavily armored so anything you send will be waxed - easily. Even Burke himself has high statistics. If you didn't change Landius from a horseman to a foot soldier or a flier when promoting him, then by all means try - but it won't be easy since Burke will have a number of other soldiers surrounding him to slow you down. As stated earlier, you don't need to pound him to win so concentrate your attacks on other enemies. During the battle, Belgar will attempt to slow Landius' forces down. Burke orders him not to do such a thing on his own accord. Belgar requests that Burke make his escape while he fights Landius' troops. The recommended troops to send against Burke are Landius and Angelina. Be careful if you have horse units since Phalanx soldiers will instantly kill horsemen (horsemen are recommended against Burke, but not recommended against Phalanxes). After the battle goes on to a certain degree, Emily will make an appearance. Emily will only hang around long enough for Burke to escape. Under certain circumstances, Lanford will show up but you'll have to have pretty powerful troops for that to happen (you don't need to fight him or Emily). Whether Burke escapes or not, the idea is to kill anything that's not a friend. If you don't bother going after Burke, this battle won't give you a headache. Trying to hit Burke while keeping your forces alive will. (Burke will wonder why Lanford would send Emily to come to his aid.) After the battle, Wheeler will show up. He'll thank you for your good work. Angelina asks Wheeler a question. Angelina wondered for a long time why someone who's as poor with the sword as Wheeler was able to enter the Schtoelenburg Military Academy. Shelfaniel thinks it's a rude question but Wheeler doesn't mind. Wheeler explains the academy has two tests - swordsmanship and a paper test. He says that he was the worst at swordsmanship but his paper test results turned out to be the top score - tied with Lanford, so Wheeler was accepted as a "reserve" student. Burke will thank Lanford for bailing him out. Burke suggests not calling one another "General Lanford" and "General Burke." He requests that he call him, "Burke" and wishes to call Lanford just "Lanford." Lanford understands. Lanford says if Burke wants to say his thanks, say it to Emily since if it weren't for her, Lanford would have kept having the wrong impressions of Burke. Burke then mentions Landius - and feels that he shares some of Emily's characteristics. He wonders if Landius is Emily's long lost brother. Lanford says this is the first time he's heard that Emily had a brother. He explains Emily's background and the flood - she knows her father is dead but doesn't know what happened to her mother and brother. Lanford says it's possible Landius is Emily's brother. Lanford then explains Landius' story about how he lost his parents due to the flood. Lanford requests Burke not mention this to Emily. Burke understands and requests not to take Emily along in his battles against Landius since both Lanford and Burke don't want siblings killing one another. King Caconsis is pleased. He thinks this is great chance to invade the federation itself and orders an attack. As the princesses protest the idiot king's decision, Ivar tells them to shut up. Caconsis says he hired the "Genius Military Strategist Ivar." Ivar suggests timing is everything and now is the time to strike. Wheeler says the enemy is capable of regrouping to gather more forces while Caconsis' army will have trouble just to replace the men they have lost. Wheeler adds that it is dangerous for Caconsis to invade and it would be better to avoid a battle so they may be better prepared for the next conflict. King Caconsis will not change his mind. Selena requests that the king reconsider. King Caconsis will not and suggests that they (Landius, Wheeler, Selena, etc.) are federation spies. King Caconsis also says Selena protects Wheeler waaaaay too much and suggests Wheeler knocked her up. Selena becomes upset and leaves. Shelfaniel goes after her and Angelina calls her father a moron (he is). King Caconsis tells everyone to get ready to go - and he'll take command of the army. King Caconsis then says Wheeler is useless since he is a military school dropout that dropped out before being expelled. King Caconsis has great hope in Ivar since he's paying Ivar a huge sum of money. At Saisho's residence, Gizarov accusses Saisho of leaking military secrets. Saisho pretends he doesn't know what Gizarov is talking about. Gizarov presents Saisho's spy. Gizarov orders Saisho and Russell's arrest - and says that the punishment for leaking information is... DEATH! Jessica says to wait - because in the current situation, there are many who plot against Gizarov - and executing Saisho and Russell will just create more enemies. Jessica suggests they be imprisoned instead of being executed. He understands her reasoning. Gizarov doesn't care as long as they don't get in the way so he'll be satisfied with their imprisonment. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 13 ----- On their way to the federation, the girls have a talk. Shelfaniel sighs. Angelina knows that her sister is concerned - because of their father. Angelina knows that their father will only get in their way. She also wonders how a man who grew up spoiled in a castle can think he knows how to fight. Rachel mentions Shelfaniel and Angelina are princesses but they fight. Angelina replies they fight because their father is incompetent. Angelina asks about Rachel's fears since she fights as well. Rachel answers that she's very scared but her brother (Landius) fights... so she does as well... (What the girls say here will depend on how high the "love index points" for each individual girl is.) Landius, Ricky, and McLaine return from the battle plan meeting. Landius' troops are the scouting force and Bruno's army will follow them while Wheeler and King Caconsis are behind Bruno. McLaine sarcastically says, "In other words, nothing has changed." You can now say something to someone. 1 - Be careful, Shelfaniel. ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 2 - I'm counting on you, Angelina. ==> Angelina's love index +1 3 - Aren't you scared, Rachel? ==> Rachel's love index +1 King Cleones wants to see his daughter married before he dies but Ardan is dead and Russell has been imprisoned. Winning condition: Annihilate all enemies Losing conditions: Death of Landius, you fail to incapacitate Kreuger within 20 turns Battle strategies, part one: Before the battle, go to the shop and buy Wizard Rods (1800P) for Shelfaniel and Rachel. If your other characters (maybe Landius and/or Ricky) became magicians, equip them with them as well (if you can afford to). Have Landius hire horsemen and have Ricky (if he's a warrior class) or McLaine hire spearmen. Don't bother hiring sky archers for Angelina. If you've used her to attack frequently up to this mission, you would have discovered that sky archers are now showing their value of long-distance attacks - they're next to worthless since the attacks often do little or no damage. Hire fairies instead. Hire archers for your other commanders. McLaine explains that before a bridge was placed in the area, many people have died from falling down. Ricky seems scared. McLaine asks if he is. Ricky puts up his defense and says that he can cross a place like this before breakfast. Shelfaniel doesn't bother hiding her concerns. Ricky replies that you'll never know when an old bridge will just fall apart. Rachel tells him not to say stuff like that. You say... 1 - That's right, (don't say stuff like that) Ricky ==> Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index +1, Shelfaniel's emotional scar index -1 2 - You scared too, Rachel? ==> Rachel's love index +1 Kreuger predicted some forces would come through the bridge and set a trap. Kreuger says Landius has lost immediately after challenging him. McLaine says that at this rate, the forces following them (Bruno) will not be able to go through. You reply... 1 - We're not going to sit here silently after hearing that (crap)! ==> No change 2 - Let's retreat for now ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, and Rachel's love index -1 3 - We'll show them our power! ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, and Rachel's love index +1 Battle strategies, part two: You'll now be able to move. Kreuger intends to drop the bridge. During the battle, Kreuger will say he needs to return to the royal capital soon (because he's about to be married to Rosensil). In the first order of business, you'll want to have your magic users cast decline, thunder fire, fireball, etc. on the arbalests and the magician across the canyon. Whatever you do, DO NOT GO NEAR THE EDGE OF THE CLIFF. The arbalests have a very long attacking range and will kill a party member from a long distance quickly. The arbalest soldiers have very a low "judgment" statistic and low "magic defense" statistics so hit them with long distance magic. Casting "Decline" on the magician/arbalests will help you kill them faster. Cast Decline, then cast Thunder, Fire, Fireball, etc. After destroying the arbalests, kill the magician with magic as well. Have your magic users' soldiers step outside the field of command and have them make their over to the bridge. When you're about the cross the bridge, McLaine says that he has something to tell you before fighting Kreuger. You reply... 1 - Say it 2 - I don't feel like listening Choose 1. McLaine will tell you that Kreuger's hired soldiers have a very long attacking range, even longer than an elf's (they're arbalests). Even though you know that arbalests have a long attacking range from reading what I wrote above, listen to what McLaine has to say anyway. When you cross the bridge, you'll want to place spearmen in the front, followed by horsemen, then archers. As you fight on the bridge, Kreuger will annoy you with his offensive magic spells and the arbalests will become a pain if you get too close. Adding insult to injury, there will be another magician on an upper cliff flanked by two yeagers (archers with a LONG attack range). Yeagers react quickly but are weak on most counts. They'll annoy you if you use the wrong strategy. Move on the bridge until your units are close enough to hit both Kreuger and the magician/yeagers on the cliff with magic but far enough away to avoid the arbalests' punishment. If your units satisfy that condition, the yeagers will attack the forces on your bridge. Unless a yeager attacks some unit with low defense (say, another archer), the units being attacked will take little or no damage. While they're doing that, move in quicky with Angelina and her fairies to kill the yeagers, then the magician. You'll have to use Heal1 often to heal your forces since Kreuger will cast magic often. If possible, cast Decline on Kreuger and the arbalests, then hit them with Fire, Fireball, Thunder, or all three. You won't be able to finish Kreuger off easily with magic alone so once the arbelests are gone, get physical. After some time, some reinforcements will arrive for Kreuger. They won't be able to catch up quickly if your forces are all on or near the bridge so don't worry too much about them. Go hit Kreuger and he'll escape after his HP drops to zero. After defeating Kreuger, the losing condition will change only to, "Death of Landius." After defeating Kreuger, you'll be able to say something to someone. 1 - Are you OK, Shelfaniel? ==> Shelfaniel's love index +2 2 - Are you OK, Angelina? ==> Angelina's love index +2 3 - Are you OK, Rachel? ==> Rachel's love index +2 Hidden items: there are two. Near one of the commander's starting points, there's a section of the cliff that somewhat sticks out. Go there (with a commander) and you will be given choices. 1 - nothing, 2 - nothing, 3 - Runestone. Do not bother with this item until you have destroyed the arbalests. Another one is located at the northeast portion of the map. You'll be able to recognize it by the tiny cross there. 1 - (Angelina or Shelfaniel) Tiara, (Rachel) amulet, (other characters) knife. 2 - If you met the dwarf that gave you an item (or didn't give you an item) back in scenario 8, then 1000P. If you did not meet the dwarf, then 1 - 1000P, 2 - nothing. After killing all enemies, the group will wonder why enemies came from behind - and also wonder where Bruno's troops are. Landius decides to backtrack to see what happened. Kreuger and Rosensil get married. After the wedding, Gizarov says that step 2 of his plan in now complete - and intends to go after Frederick next. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 14 ----- Shelfaniel wonders if her father is all right. Angelina wonders if their father isn't slowing the army down. You say, "He's probably all right..." 1 - ...since Wheeler's with him ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, & Rachel's love index +1 2 - ...since Ivar's with him ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, & Rachel's love index - 1 3 - ...since Selena's with him ==> Selena's love index +1 Ricky will wonder what happened to Bruno's troops. McLaine wonders if something happened during the fight with Kreuger. Landius says not to think about something ominous like that and says... 1 - He probably took the wrong path ==> Shelfaniel's emotional scar +1, Shelfaniel, Angelina, & Rachel's love index -1 2 - We probably just went too fast ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, & Rachel's love index +1 Night - bedtime (or camptime). After Landius falls asleep, he'll be in a dream. In the dream, there are four doors and he wonders which one he should open. There will be four doors. 1 - Spade 2 - Heart 3 - Clover 4 - Diamond ----- Spade ----- If Angelina's love index is 111 or greater: Angelina gets scared. 1 - What's the matter? ==> No change 2 - Sorry, I seemed to have scared you ==> Counter +1 3 - Nyah, nyah! Got scared! ==> No change Landius will notice Angelina is concerned about something. 1 - You should talk about it with someone ==> No change 2 - If you'd like, you can discuss your concers with me ==> Counter +1 3 - Having concerns isn't like you ==> No change Angelina will then have something to ask. She'll wonder if men like women who are "gentle and well mannered." 1 - Of course! ==> No change 2 - No, that's not the case ==> Counter +1 3 - It depends on the person ==> No change Angelina will then ask if you believe in meeting someone by fate. 1 - You believe ==> Counter +1 2 - Don't believe in it ==> No change 3 - You'd like to meet someone under those circumstances ==> No change If the counter is +0, then Angelina's love index -1. If the counter is +3, then Angelina's love index +1. Otherwise, no change. (Note: If the counter is +4, then no change. Pay attention to the language.) If Angelina's love index is 110 or lower: Landius notices that Angelina is angry. 1 - Talk to her despite her anger ==> Conuter +1 2 - Get the hell out of here ==> No change 3 - Hide so she won't find you ==> No change Angelina will then say that you always make fun of people. 1 - I don't make fun of people! ==> Counter +1 2 - That's right ==> No change 3 - I'm just honest ==> No change You say, "At any rate, I really don't intend to make fun of people." Angelina says you may not intend to, but it appears as though you do anyway. 1 - Provide a counterargument ==> No change 2 - Uh-huh ==> No change 3 - Stay silent ==> Counter +1 "The kind of person I am is..." 1 - "...a reliable person" ==> No change 2 - "...an inquisitive person" ==> No change 3 - "...a kind of person who goes on the offensive" ==> No change 4 - "It's how other people see me!" ==> Counter +1 If the counter is +0, then Angelina's love index -1. If the counter is +3 or higher, then Angelina's love index +1. Otherwise, no change. ----- Heart ----- If Rachel's love index is 111 or higher: Rachel says, "Hehe. I've been waiting for you..." 1 - I'm so excited ==> Counter +1 2 - Not really... ==> No change 3 - What's with your cockt attitude ==> No change Rachel: I'm a little concerned about something. Landius: You gain weight? Rachel: What?!? Did I get fat? 1 - Yes ==> Rachel's love index -1 2 - No ==> No change 3 - Even you have concerns ==> No change 4 - Is it a concern over love? ==> Counter +1 Rachel will ask you who you love. 1 - Shelfaniel ==> No change 2 - Angelina ==> No change 3 - It's you, Rachel ==> Counter +1 4 - Selena ==> No change Rachel will ask if you were to confess your love to someone you care about... 1 - From a seashore while watching a sunset ==> Counter +1 2 - From a terrance while watching the stars ==> Counter +1 3 - When I am prepared to die ==> No change 4 - I wouldn't cofess my love ==> No change If the counter is +0, Rachel's love index -1. If the counter is +3 or higher, Rachel's love index +1. Otherwise, no change. If Rachel's love index is 110 or lower: Rachel will be angry and ask what the hell you're doing. 1 - I came to meet you ==> Counter +1 2 - I entered a door in a dream ==> No change 3 - I don't need to answer ==> No change Rachel will wonder if you have anything to say to her. 1 - Let me borrow some money A - Yes ==> Rachel's love index -1 B - No ==> No change 2 - I'm sorry A - Come to think of it, yeah ==> No change B - Apologize ==> No change C - Apologize earnestly ==> Counter +1 3 - You have nothing to say ==> Rachel's love index -1 Landius: Let me ask the questions now. Rachel: What now..? 1 - Why are you so angry? ==> Counter +1 2 - You're in love with me, aren't you? ==> Rachel's love index -1 3 - Does Ricky like older women? ==> No change If the counter is +0, then Rachel's love index -1. Winning condition: Incapcitate Emily and incapacitate Burke Losing conditions: Death of any of the following - Landius, King Caconsis, Wheeler, or Selena At the beginning of the battle, Mr. Incompetent is angry and commands Wheeler to *do something.* Wheeler is troubled since he doesn't have enough troops to actually enact any type of plan. King Caconsis angrily says, "Who the hell came up with such a problematic plan?!? That's why I said let's wait patiently!" (Ivar came up with the plan and as you recall, King Caconsis did not want to "wait patiently.") King Caconsis remembers it was all Ivar's responsibility (Ivar is nowhere to be found). Wheeler informs King Caconsis that Ivar ran away after the first sign of battle. (Bruno is nowhere to be found either.) During the battle, Shelfaniel will say let's hurry since her father and everyone else will be killed otherwise. You reply... 1 - At any rate, let's hurry and help them! ==> Angelina's love index +1 2 - I don't feel like it... ==> Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index -1 3 - Leave it to me! ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 Battle strategies: At the beginning, it looks hopeless for Caconsis. As you bring your forces down the map, the enemy will turn their attention toward your forces. The enemy will not concentrate on you or King Caconsis - they will split their forces. Burke will not want Emily to fight Landius and will suggest that she concentrate on attacking King Caconsis. Emily will get angry and demands he gives out serious orders. Both Emily and Burke (especially Emily) are tough enemies. Unless you have Phalanx troops (Ricky or McLaine can hire these soldiers if they have been promoted to a "General" class), don't try to attempt a melee attack without casting Decline, then offensive magic since she'll kill you - very quickly. Even with Phalanx soldiers, Emily will still give you a hard time. There are two ways to cross - the large bridge, or the land masses with tiny bridges. Since both passageways are narrow, you won't be able to effectively fight the enemy if you take all your forces across one path. Split your forces to two and think about the strengths and weaknesses of your forces. Don't split your forces unevenly or you'll get wasted. There will be a magician flanked by Arbalests. Selena's troops will kill anywhere between one to three arbalests and the rest will be up to you. The enemy magician(s) can be annoying so use Heal1 as much as possible when your troops get hurt. You may need to use it anyway if you fight Burke or Emily. You won't be able to hit the magicians until you've managed to wipe out the bulk of the enemy forces so Heal1 will be your best friend. Heal2 is powerful but it takes too long to cast. After crossing the bridge to a certain point, serpent soldiers will come out from the water. If you have serpent units of your own, use them to hit the serpent units. Don't use land units to fight serpents in the water. If you don't have serpents, hit them with archers. If you don't have archers, a few thunder spells will wipe the serpents out. After wasting Burke, Lanford will arrive. Don't worry about Lanford because Wheeler will do something for you (you'll find out what that is as you play; If you waste both Burke and Emily before Lanford attempts to cross the bridge, then Wheeler won't do that certain "something"). This is also probably the best place to get Angelina to fight Emily. Don't attack Emily with Angelina when Emily has 10HP. Weaken Emily any way you can (phalanx troops, decline - then other magic, etc.), then use Angelina to attack Emily. Otherwise, Angelina will get wasted and her love index points will drop. Of course, if you don't care about going to story route C, you don't need to worry about that. Remember that you don't need to kill everything to win. All you need to do is to waste Burke (again) and Emily (again). Landius: Are you all right, General Selena? Selena: Yes, but if you didn't come along, we really would have been in a pickle. 1 - I'm glad you're safe ==> No change 2 - Please be at ease ==> No change 3 - I can't ignore a beautiful maiden in distress ==> Selena's love index +1 After the battle, Landius and Wheeler exchange notes. Wheeler requests Landius and company be recognized as official Caconsis soldiers. In addition, he suggests Selena will join Landius' party and have Landius maintain command - as an official general. King Caconsis refuses, saying he won't recognize some nobody as a general. King Caconsis maintains Landius was able to win because of his daughters. Shelfaniel and Angelina ask their father if he really thinks they could have defeated the enemies by themselves. King Caconsis then says Shelfaniel should become a general. Shelfaniel hesitates but Angelina suggests just becoming a general by name - and leave the battle tactics to Landius and Selena. Selena will join your party. You'll be able to promote her class twice. Think about what you need. In route A, she'll be your primary healer. In routes B and C, she will not be in your party. King Cleones will have a rather nasty facial color. The king dies. Gizarov and Kreuger are plotting something (as always). Lanford is angry Burke allowed Landius and Emily to fight one another. Burke explains it couldn't be helped. Since Landius went off to fight Kreuger at the bridge, Burke went to hit the Caconsis army's main forces. He was surprised Landius' forces backtracked to fight him. Lanford apologizes. Lanford says he'll continue an attack on Landius and asks Burke to go to the seaport. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 15 ----- Emily will ask if it's all right not to go back to the castle. Lanford explains that Gizarov and Kreuger's forces are there so there's no need. His plan is not to allow Wheeler to escape. Emily asks what his relationship with Wheeler is. He says Wheeler was his classmate - and worthless when wielding a sword. He also adds Wheeler's intelligence can't be measured. Emily has heard that Wheeler was a troubled student with bad grades. Lanford says that's true. Wheeler was never complimented by a professor on exams - because none of the professors could understand Wheeler's tactics. Wheeler's ideas were so new, it was not something that could be readily accepted. As time goes by, old defenses (such as stone walls) will not work - and Wheeler recognized the evolution in tactics faster than anyone else. Because of this, Wheeler was shunned as a weirdo. Lanford also explains there was a big problem in enacting Wheeler's tactics. The problem was the existence of troops who could understand and enact Wheeler's plans. Emily and Lanford both recognize that the "troops" capable of understanding Wheeler are Landius' group. Before setting up a trap, Lanford orders Emily to keep an eye on Gizarov. Emily wonders why, especially when a battle is about to start. Lanford explains internal strife may be their undoing (but you know the real reason). Frederick is pissed off - VERY pissed off. He wonders why Kreuger is sitting in the King's chair because he is supposed to be the king now. Kreuger explains the king's seat is something Cleones gave him. Frederick doesn't buy it. Gizarov presents a will "written" by Cleones (while under Gizarov's spell) - it states that the next king will be the man that marries Rosensil. Frederick is to be king only if she is not married. Frederick is convinced that the writing is not his father's - until he sees it. Winning condition: Kill all enemies Losing conditions: Death of any of the following - Landius, Wheeler, King Caconsis Emily is very confident they they will not lose ("Not even 1 out of a 10,000 chance"). Lanford says they can't let their guard down since it's Wheeler they're dealing with. Wheeler approaches. He sees the forces in front of him and... in order to avoid the deaths of troops (Lanford's ^_^), he politely requests Lanford to get out of the way. Emily refuses. Lanford says Wheeler's a funny guy - and adds he doesn't want his troops to get hurt either. Even so, he wants the war to end - and finishing Wheeler and King Caconsis off would do that. After the battle starts, Wheeler figured Lanford would take the safe route and not attempt a pursuit. Based on where Lanford placed his forces, Wheeler recognizes that even a small group has a chance of defeating them - and concedes he's been outmaneuvered. King Caconsis says anyone can do that since he's (Wheeler's) an idiot (but we all know who the *real* idiot is). King Caconsis demands Wheeler do something. Wheeler says Landius is more experienced with actual battle commands and figures it's better to leave it to him. Lanford will order Emily to go back to the castle and Emily refuses because of the circumstances. Emily says she'll accept her reprimand later and suggests they give everything they have into the battle. Battle tactics: Since you'll be faced with both Emily and Lanford, this mission is tough. The other units are no pushovers themselves. You'll want to distribute the spearmen troops (hopefully, phalanxes) in the middle. In the upper and lower sections, you'll want plenty of archers. There are two magicians flanked by archers themselves. You'll want to kill the magicians ASAP with magic and/or your own archers since reinforcements will arrive quickly and magicians will prove to be an annoying existence. Without killing the magicians, your chances of winning are bleak. Don't bother trying to gain experience by killing off the grunts since you have a great disadvantage. If you feel that you're good enough to wipe out the enemies despite the disadvantages, be ready to reload your game if you screw up. (If you used the level select cheat, never mind.) The middle section will have horsemen all over the place. Use phalaxes and/or archers to hit the commanders, especially if they're Emily or Lanford. After you waste Emily, Lanford will get pissed off. If you're good enough to waste Lanford, then he'll withdraw. If not, he'll withdraw anyway after a certain time (you don't need to defeat him to win). Some flying units will inform Lanford that Kreuger has now taken the King's seat. Frederick has taken arms against Gizarov and a civil war is about to take place. Lanford will leave the scene. The flying units will attempt to kill King Caconsis. By this time, you should have wasted the majority of the enemy forces. After Lanford leaves, the battle will become a little easier so take the opportunity to gain some experience by not wasting the enemy commanders first. The flying units will go directly south - in King Caconsis' direction. They're not that strong so hit them with Thunder, Windercutter, or Tornado. Archers are very effective against them as well. (Angelina's sky archers are too weak so use fairies instead.) Frederick realizes what Gizarov had planned all along. Frederick's first officer suggests Gizarov probably had something to do with the incident regarding Secretary Reverse as well. Frederick says probably, and wonders how he's going to fight against Gizarov since he has far fewer men than Gizarov. Lanford arrives. Frederick thinks that Lanford came to capture him. Lanford explains that he does not trust Gizarov and wants to get revenge for Secretary Reverse. He adds he does not have evidence Gizarov plotted to have Reverse removed. He also has suspicions of the incident regarding the death of Prince Caconsis. Lanford wishes to fight beside the prince and offers his services. Frederick explains he didn't want to take orders from Kreuger/Gizarov and gathered a force - but has no idea what to do next. Lanford suggests they should turn all enemies of Gizarov into their friends to build up a large enough force to fight. Lanford figures General Burke will agree to join, in addition to the imprisoned Saisho and Russell (who will make the situation look "good" from a political standpoint). Lanford adds although the coup d'e tat failed, there are nobles with sympathy toward Secretary Reverse. Sunset - King Caconsis doesn't like sneaking around to get away. Wheeler explains moving at night through the forests will make them very hard to detect by the enemy. King Caconsis, like a spoiled brat, refuses to listen - and wants to go by boat. Wheeler tries (and already tried) to explain taking a boat is dangerous. Wheeler figures Lanford knows about their escape routes - and probably already set up a dragnet at sea. King Caconsis says his country's seamen are the best. Wheeler explains they're not in Caconsis and the seamen in this area are not as good as those in Caconsis. King Caconsis refuses to listen and decides the he WANTS to go by boat. Angelina protests to no avail. Wheeler gives in and agrees to go by boat. After a lot of bitching if spewed, you say... 1 - It can't be helped ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 2 - This isn't something that started just now ==> Shelfaniel's emotional scar index -1 A - Hey, hey ===> no change B - Calm down, Ricky ==> no change C - (Sorry, forgot) ==> no change 3 - He's gonna get his soon ==> Shelfaniel's love index -1 After the troops depart for the seaport, if Angelina directly attacked Emily at least once during scenarios 13-15 AND if you activated the "I'm lost in the forest" event, you'll see an event. Emily will appear before Angelina. Emily says she didn't come to fight. Emily shows Angelina her pendant and asks if she recognizes it. Angelina worries, scrambles and discovers that she still has hers (or better yet, Landius'). Emily asks why Angelina has the pendant and how she got it. Emily explains that her parents had the pendants as a pair. Emily's belonged to her father. The one Angelina has once belonged to Emily's mother. Angelina: Then... He's... Emily: He's? Then you got it from someone? He may be my long lost brother! Tell me! Angelina: Landius... Emily: Your leader... Angelina tells Landius' story - how he lost his parents in a flood and was raised by the mayor of a town. Angelina wonders why siblings have to fight one another. Emily requests Angelina to keep this between themselves. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 16 ----- Burke receives a report of Caconsis' movements. He then wonders about the civil war between Frederick and Gizarov. His magician wonders with whom they will fight. Burke answers that he'll fight alongside the anti-Gizarov group, figuring this will give him an excuse to stand up against Gizarov. In the meantime, they need to take care of Caconsis. A messenger arrives and informs Frederick that Saisho has been brought. Saisho and Russell are grateful they have been freed. Frederick says he wanted Russell to marry his sister. Back to business - Saisho says he feels there's a "dark presence" behind Gizarov. Saisho tells the tale of a mysterious female magician (Jessica) that is assisting Gizarov. Winning condition: Kill all enemies Losing conditions: Death of any of the following - Landius, Wheeler, King Caconsis Caconsis' group is met by Burke. King Caconsis orders to get away but Wheeler asks how they can do that under the circumstances. Battle strategies: Troop distribution will be very important in this mission. You'll want to put the commanders with high defensive numbers to take the two upper boats (they will most likely be Landius and Selena). You'll want the magician class commanders in the center boat. Distribute the rest to your liking. This is one mission serpent class soldiers come in handy since the mission is mostly water. Although archers are handy as well, they don't have the type of movement you need to make them effective in this mission. Although foot soldiers can move through the water slowly, horsemen can't unless it's a commander. Don't bother hiring mercenaries on horseback in this mission since they won't come in handy. Take caution as to how you kill your enemies. Whichever commander that occupies the upper starting point in the center boat should be moved a few paces south ASAP since that starting location makes a unit an easy target for an arbalest. Use your magicians to cast thunder twice to wipe out the arbelests flanking the magician. After getting rid of the magician's arbalests, Move your magicians to the northernmost side of the boat and get rid of Burke's arbalests. After killing a few enemies, the mysterious magician (Fealart) will appear and will offer his assistance. King Caconsis asks who he is. Fealart introduces himself and says that he has been assisting King Caconsis all along - and wonders if King Caconsis ever noticed. King Caconsis says he knew he was being helped all along and THAT'S why he wanted to go by boat (it's all bullshit). Listil and Naal will assist you in fighting the enemies. Listil "almost" makes the mistake of calling her master "Bozel." Bozel will soon go away. Keep in mind that any enemies that Listil and Naal kill will not be counted toward your experience. Burke won't die yet. He'll retreat and somehow disappear. After the battle is over, Listil and Naal will go away as well. Landius and Wheeler can't figure out what's going on. King Caconsis is convinced he is to become the ruler of the world and even demons will come to help if it means protecting his life. Back at Castle Caconsis, Bruno greets the king. King Caconsis is furious with Bruno. Bruno asks for forgiveness because he has received word the federation had sent troops to attack the castle during their absence. In order to defend the castle, he went back (or so he says). He says he had sent a message... The king says he didn't receive such word and Selena suggests either the messager was captured or killed. The king is now pleased with Bruno and goes inside. Landius asks Wheeler what they should do next. Wheeler doesn't know if Bruno is lying or not but he's glad the castle is safe and Bruno's army is still in tact. Wheeler suggests they get some rest. McLaine says he's exhausted. Ricky says even warriors need some time off. What Rachel says will depend on how high her love index points are. You say... If Rachel's love index is 115 or higher: 1 - You're such a good girl ==> Rachel's love index +1 2 - I had fun as well ==> Rachel's love index +2, Angelina and Shelfaniel's love index -1 If Rachel's love index 114 or lower: 1 - Then get some rest ==> No change 2 - But you really did great ==> Rachel's love index +1 Back at Frderick's HQ, Saisho wants his son to defeat Gizarov and take Rosensil. Russell wonder what they should do since the military duties are handled by Lanford. A guest arrives. It's Fealart and Listil. Fealart suggests that if there aren't enough soldiers, it's best to make Gizarov's enemies their (Frederick's) friends. Russell figures out that Fealart means Caconsis. Saisho wonders if they can be convinced. Fealart says to leave that part to him and Saisho should inform Frederick of the plan. Save spot SAVE YOUR GAME NOW!!! IF YOU DON'T YOU'RE GOING TO REGRET IT!!! IN FACT, SAVE YOUR GAME IN ALL THREE SAVE SLOTS NOW!!! _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 17A ----- Fealart and Listil are surrounded by federation soldiers. They are also faced with Kreuger. Fealart (Bozel) commands Listil to go on without him while he creates an opening. Listil is dragged into Castle Caconsis by a guard. She came to inform everyone of an alliance. She says that Frederick wants to form an alliance. Selena gets her hopes up - figuring if the federation wants to form an alliance, there will be peace. Listil adds that's not it. She explains how the old king had died and there's a power struggle over the throne. The two sides who are fighting are Gizarov&Kreuger vs. Frederick. King Caconsis finds that to be agreeable (as does Wheeler). Wheeler asks what you want to do. IMPORTANT!!! THIS WILL DETERMINE THE MULTIPLE PATHS YOU CAN TAKE! THIS IS WHY I TOLD YOU TO SAVE YOUR GAME IN ALL THREE SAVE SLOTS! You answer... 1 - Agreed 2 - I refuse to cooperate with demons If you choose the first choice, you'll go to route A. If you choose the second choice, you'll go to route C if you satisfied the conditions stated earlier. The conditions are: 1.) You saw the "forest" event before the scenario 12 battle. 2.) You made Angelina attack Emily at least once during scenarios 13 - 15. 3.) Angelina and Shelfaniel both have a love index of 110 or higher. If you end up going this path, skip the rest of "Scenario 17A" and go to Scenario 17C. By agreeing, Listil will say that on her way over, her master was attacked by Kreuger. She wants to save him. King Caconsis orders his rescue. Winning condition: Incapacitate Kreuger Losing conditions: Deaths of Landius or Fealart Fealart is surprised Kreuger insists on fighting even after a large number of Kreuger's men were slaughtered. He will also be surprised that Listil brought back some help. Battle tactics: In a way, this mission has a time limit. You have to save Fealart's ass before he gets killed. You can't just kill every single enemy to gain some experience. If you try, Fealart will be killed and the game will be over. Think of who is capable of reaching you to get in your way. Since there's a river dividing the map, horsemen and foot soldiers will not be able to pursue you very quickly. If McLaine is a serpent/water unit, draw some enemies' attention by going into water. If McLaine has been promoted to Serpent Knight, he can hire nixies (long range water archers; low judgement but powerful) to pick off air units and other miscelleneous units. (If McLaine is a General or Assasin, use Yeagers or hire some foot soldiers to enact melee attacks. If you looked at the class cahnge charts, you'll discover that turning McLaine into a General doesn't make sense unless you don't care about the hidden classes.) Hit commanders and don't bother with the grunts. Hit Kreuger with magic spells - it won't affect him but his arbalests will take a pounding. If you're lucky, Fealart will be able to kill Kreuger's arbalests with his Meteor spell (but don't count on him doing that). Listil and Naal will probably get wasted in the battle but that doesn't count as a losing condition - so concentrate on reaching Kreuger. Behind Kreuger will be a magician and a pair of arbalests. Send some "sacrificing" units and let them draw the arbalests' fire while you concentrate on hitting Kreuger. The things to remember are: 1.) Don't waste time; hit the commanders, 2.) you don't need to kill everyone to win, 3.) use someone to draw the attention of flying units and the horsemen that try to cross the river, 4.) hit the arbalests or use expendable units to draw their fire, 5.) hit Kreuger hard and fast. Kreuger will cast "mute" so be prepared to cast "cure" or to cast a "mute" spell of your own. After the battle, Fealart is asked why he's committed to making the alliance work. He answers that he has an "uneasy relationship" with Gizarov. He is helping Frederick to get into Gizarov's way. Selena wants the war to end - because she doesn't want a "certain someone" to get hurt. Selena gets scared when she sees a hairy caterpillar. 1 - Embrace her ==> If Selena's love index is 105 or greater, then Selena's love index +2. If 104 or less, love index -2. 2 - Stare at her ==> If Selena's love index is 105 or greater, then Selena's love index +1. If 104 or less, no change. 3 - Do nothing ==> If Selena's love index is 105 or greater, then Selena's love index -1. Bruno faces King Caconsis. King Caconsis is scared to death and asks if Bruno's of sound mind. Bruno says that he intended to do in the first place. Caconsis: From the start..?! What do you mean? Bruno: Well, I have... plenty of things against you but at any rate, you'll just be put to death. King Caconsis pleads with Bruno and offers to double his pay. Bruno answers that King Caconsis forming an allice with Frederick will inconvenience his master. King Caconsis lets out a scream and dies. Wheeler witnesses the assasination. Burke arrives at Frederick's HQ. Lanford explains to Burke about King Cleones' will. Lanford wonders if Gizarov knew of the contents of the will and had Kreuger marry Rosensil *OR* if Gizarov made Cleones write the will. Either way, Lanford knows it was all a plot by Gizarov. Burke mentions the document found regarding Reverse's treachery. Frederick says he knew Reverse very well and would have never done something like that. Burke gives his full support to the prince. Saisho has a report. Burke is surprised - but since Gizarov plotted everything, Frederick sees Caconsis as Gizarov's victim as well. Burke has reservations about the alliance with Caconsis. Lanford says he understands because he has lost many good men in the war as well. He says the best thing to do is to direct his rage toward the real culprit of the war - Gizarov. Burke cheers up a bit and says there's no need to worry about Emily vs. Lanford. Frederick asks about this and Lanford explains there is someone that appears to be Emily's brother in the Caconsis army. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 18A ----- Battered and beaten, Kreuger returns to the castle and faces Gizarov. Gizarov sees him and asks what happened. Kreuger informs him he attempted to prevent a Frederick - Caconsis alliance. From the appearance, Gizarov concludes Kreuger failed. Jessica says with the alliance formed, there is a possibility of a raid. Gizarov says he doesn't think there will be an invasion immediately after the death of King Caconsis. Kreuger is surprised. Gizarov deduces the country will now be in chaos. Ivar (remember him?) says King Caconsis was hated by everyone. Now that he's gone, Ivar figures the Caconsis forces will be able to mobilize themselves much better. Gizarov says Caconsis must have been a bigger loser than he had imagined. Ivar suggests since they'll eventually invade, they should form a plan of their own immediately. He wishes to enact a plan of his (a plan set up by self-proclaimed "Genius Miltary Strategist"). Gizarov decides to give Ivar some troops. Kreuger: Who the hell was he? Gizarov: He tried to sell himself as a "Genius Military Strategist." Jessica: He's... a man that can't be trusted. Compared to leaving it to him, wouldn't it be a lot more assuring if you had commanded the forces yourself? Gizarov isn't counting on Ivar at all and is just using him for entertainment. If he succeeds, he figures it's just a lucky break. On their way back to Castle Caconsis, Landius wonders where Rachel and the others went. Ricky says they went to go rest in the dry riverbed. Landius figures on going there but Ricky says a "real man" wouldn't do something so inelegant. He figures it's necessary to give the women some time to communicate amongst themselves. Landius agrees. Ricky wants Landius to develop some sensitivity toward a woman's feelings. Ricky will ask if there's a woman he likes. He doesn't know how to answer. 1 - Give an honest answer A - Shelfaniel ==> Shelfaniel's love index +3, Angelina, Rachel, Selena's love index -1 B - Angelina ==> Angelina's love index +3, Shelfaniel, Rachel, Selena's love index -1 C - Rachel ==> Rachel's love index +3, Shelfaniel, Angelina, Selena's love index -1 D - Selena ==> Selena's love index +3, Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel's love index -1 2 - Lie A - Shelfaniel ==> Shelfaniel's emotional scar index +2. love index -1 B - Angelina ==> Angelina's love index -1 C - Rachel ==> Rachel's love index -1 D - Selena ==> Selena's love index -1 3 - Say there isn't anyone ==> Shelfaniel's emotional scar index +1, Shelfaniel, Angelina, Rachel, Selena's love index -1 No matter which is the case, if you answered, "Shelfaniel," Ricky will give you a letter of "love rivals/enemies." A Caconsis soldier arrives with the news that King Caconsis is dead. He says Bruno was the assasin. Wheeler is now being chased by Bruno because Wheeler is a witness to the murder. Winning condition: Incapacitate Bruno Losing conditions: Death of Landius or Wheeler Battle tactics: Bruno will command the monsters to go after Wheeler. The monsters won't be too concerned with your units. You'll want to place your soldiers in the following manner - those with the highest movement should be placed at the bottom and those with the lowest should be placed at the top. This applies for both commanders and mercenaries. If a commander can move fast but the mercenaries can't (or vice-versa), then care must be taken as to where the commander should be situated. Hopefully, McLaine is a water soldier capable of hiring nixies. If so, put him in water and have him "lurk" there. While the nixies will take a while to catch up to McLaine, once they're in the water, they'll move quickly. Have the nixies then "ambush" anyone that walks on the bridge. Although they'll take damage if they attack Bruno's witches, you'll be able to kill a few of the witches without getting any of your nixies killed. If you don't have McLaine as a serpent, have him walk to other side of land and use him as a melee soldier. Basically, you'll want to use the bridge as a bottleneck for Bruno to overcome. Bruno's witches are deadly so take them out by any means. If McLaine isn't a water unit and is a General or Assasin (why did you turn McLaine into a General?), hire yeagers to fight a long-range battle. Before you actually fight Bruno, you should get the bulk of your soldiers to cross the water. Most units will be slowed down but do your best to cross the water since that's where Wheeler will go (the church). Wheeler will not go inside the church because he does not want to involve the people in there. He'll be stationary at the entrance. You'll want to get the bulk of your soldiers at or near the water by then. Plan out the trip across the river carefully because you don't want units slowing each others' progress down. The dogs are considered "knight" class soldiers. Their offense is high but their defense is weak. Pikes and Phalanxes will make short work of them. Archers are effective against them, primarily because of their weak defense. Selena *should* have (I won't guarantee that she does since I don't know how you promoted her) "Holyblaze" amongst the magic spells she can cast. This spell may take a while to cast but it is powerful against the monsters in this stage. Gels are weak against any type of magic so use that to your advantage. If Rachel or Selena have "turn undead" and if an undead class of soldiers come into either woman's field of command, cast it (such opportunities are rare, though). At one point, a chaos dragon will try to hit you from the bottom side. Wind magic works but that won't do as much damage to them as it used to do to other flying units. You can use that to shave down their HP to have archers or melee units to finish them off. Casting Decline, then wind magic (Windcutter or Tornado) works better but that requires several magic users to enact - and you'll probably be using them to fight off the forces that made their way from the bridge. During the battle, Wheeler will give you some advice. He'll tell you priest class soldiers are strong against monsters and undead monsters. Ricky will also suggest to let the princesses attack Bruno. This brings up an interesting point... Shelfaniel vs. Bruno ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 Angelina vs. Bruno ==> Angelina's love index +1 Selena vs. Bruno ==> Selena's love index +1 Make sure the women don't get wasted while attacking Bruno. After Bruno gets wasted, he'll retreat. Wheeler will explain the details of what had happened. Shelfaniel won't know what to do... and Angelina tries to get her to see the big picture. Ricky tries to say something and... is told to shut up. ^_^ Wheeler says in order for an alliance to be formed, it is necessary to choose a new monarch - now. Wheeler suggests Shelfaniel become the new queen. You say... 1 - If it's you, then it'll be all right ==> No change 2 - Have some confidence ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 3 - Would you rather hand it over to the Admiral instead? ==> Selena's love index -1 4 - Would you rather hand it over to me instead? ==> Rachel's love index -1 As her first command, she wishes to speak to Frederick so they may plan out how to strike Gizarov. Gizarov wonders about something. He asks Jessica about acquiring a certain "something." Jessica replies that according to her information, there's a 90% probability but... He talks about a certain girl (figure it out)... Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 19A ----- Landius and company arrive to meet Frederick. Wheeler and Lanford are glad they don't have to fight one another anymore. Wheeler says Shelfaniel is now the ruler of Caconsis and explains the story of how the king was assasinated. Shelfaniel says there may be some areas she still needs to develop but hopes to do a good job. Frederick gives her some flattering words and Ricky gets jealous. ^_^ Wheeler says there is one condition for the alliance. Shelfaniel says what it is - a friendly relationship with the federation. Shelfaniel says once Frederick takes the throne, she wishes for Caconsis and the federation be on good terms like the old days. Frederick agrees - and gives out his own condition. Lanford says he wants to entrust all of his men to Wheeler and to plan out strategies for Prince Frederick. In exchange, Lanford will join Landius' squad. Wheeler can't believe his ears. Lanford adds this is the best way to win the war. Landius gives Lanford the communication mirror. Emily will be able to tell Wheeler everything he needs to know about federation territory. Fealart will say that his troubles were worth it. After Lanford joins your party, you'll be able to promote him twice. If you received the "letter" from Ricky: Ricky says, "Are you OK with someone looking at the woman you love like that?!?" Shelfaniel says, "Wha..?" ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 If not: Ricky is still pissed off. Landius tells Ricky to calm down. Ricky pisses himself off by thinking of how Frederick looked at her. HE comments that when a man looks at a woman like that, a man has alterior motives. Shelfaniel: Then you must have alterior motives as well, Ricky. Ricky: Well, that's because I'm a man... uh? Landius: Dumbass... McLaine is panicking because Rachel has disappeared. You say... 1 - You don't need to worry about her ==> No change 2 - She's not a kid so she should be fine ==> Rachel's love index +1 3 - She's still a kid... ==> Rachel's love index -1 Wheeler, Selena, Lanford, and Emily arrive. Landius explains Rachel has disappeared. Wheeler concludes the next battle must be fought without her. The plan is for Wheeler to lead the army to draw out Gizarov's main forces. While Wheeler keeps Gizarov's main army busy, Landius and company sneak into the castle to strike Gizarov. Lanford explains they must pass through a cavern to sneak into the castle. The cavern is so complex, no one would be able to wait to set up a trap. He adds anyone who does would have to be a big fat idiot. (You can take a guess who's waiting for them there. ^_^) Winning condition: Incapcitate Ivar Losing condition: Death of Landius As indicated by the winning condition, the "big fat idiot" Lanford referred to is Ivar, the self-proclaimed genius military strategist. Before the battle, Angelina will say the cavern is creepy and it looks like a place where ghosts/monsters would come out. You say... 1 - Didn't think that you were the type to get scared ==> Angelina's love index +1 2 - It's strange that you're the type to get scared ==> No change 3 - Rachel would be scared even more than you ==> Rachel's love index +1, Angelina and Shelfaniel's love index -1 Battle tactics: DO NOT hire nixies if you can hire them. Although they are very useful, they're worthless in this mission - because the terrain won't allow them to move. Do not necessarily hire soldiers with the best offense/defense statistics. Hire soldiers with the best magic defense (all those symbols with the fire logo, lightning logo, etc.) because the magicians will cast "meteor" on you many times. Use your magic to wipe out the arbalests, as usual. There's no need to "hurry" to any specific location in this mission so be patient and kill your enemies slowly but surely. After killing the arbalests flanking the two magicians, send soldiers to kill the one above you and use archers to kill the one to your left. After killing a certain number of enemies, monsters will appear and the winning condition will change to incapacitating Ivar AND killing all monsters. After killing the enemies one by one, there will be a third magician (w/arbalests) that will cast meteor. Waste the arbalests, then kill the magician. If you take too much time killing enemies, Ivar will run away. You don't need to kill him to beat this mission. If you insist on wasting Ivar and everyone else to raise your alignment points, then kill Ivar's archers with magic. There's a priest-class commander that casts white magic (he casts "Holyblaze"). Kill his grunts (they're foot soldiers) and damage him to 7 or fewer HP (but not all the way to 0 HP) so he'll heal himself on a constant basis instead of trying to hit you with Holyblaze. As a side effect of healing himself, he'll recharge his MP as well. He'll then attempt to cast Holyblaze even if he's damaged beyond 7HP. Have your magic user cast "mute" or have one of your healers cast Heal1 so you can keep the damage from Holyblaze to a minimum. In a nutshell, you'll want one commander w/units to keep the magician's HP low, one (or more) commander(s) with healing magic recharging MP and casting Heal1, and the rest can go after Ivar. Once you're able to strike Ivar, kill the white magic user, then attack Ivar. Jessica informs Gizarov of the near "completion" of a certain something. Gizarov can't wait. Gizarov asks her to leave. After she leaves the room, Gendrasil appears and asks who the woman was. Gizarov says she was helping him to create the "Magical Giant." Thanks to her, he was able to save a lot of time. Gizarov was impressed by someone so young posessing so much knowledge. Gendrasil says she is much older than her appearance. Gizarov doesn't care as long as his desries are fulfilled. (His desires are to extract the magical power from the "crystal" . In order to do so, he needs more time.) Save spot (Save your game here, or during the 20A mission.) _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 20A ----- Gizarov is informed of a large contingent of Frederick's army that is about to attack. He says he will give Bruno all the troops he wants. Bruno says he will bring back Wheeler's head this time. Bruno leaves. Kreuger asks if Bruno can be trusted. Gizarov says Bruno was not just a plain old traitor - he was acting on orders from Gizarov from the beginning. Kreuger is surprised that Gizarov had planned out his strategies from such a long time ago. Gizarov explains how a man's life is short - and he wants to accomplish as much as he can during that short lifetime. Both Jessica and Kreuger are impressed. Winning condition: Incapacitate Gizarov and Kreuger Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: There are two ways to go in. The entrance is protected by foot soldiers and there are magicians (w/arbalests) and horesemen backing them up. If you have multiple magic users, you can split your forces into two and hit the enemies from two sides. If not, slowly crawl your way into the castle from one side. After moving into the castle to a certain point, reinforcements will arrive. Selena is worried. 1 - Make her calm down ==> Selena's love index +1 2 - Make her feel relaxed ==> Selena's love index +1 3 - Show that there's room for relief ==> Selena's love index -1 You'll want balance in your teams if you decide to split your group into two. You'll probably want parties that look like and <4 members>. Horsemen will be slowed down significantly inside the castle so keep that in mind. On the left side, kill the foot soldiers (with Landius' soldiers), then use phalanxes (someone else; hopefully, someone can hire them) to hit the horsemen. On your way to kill them, the archers flanking the magician (left) will attack. As long as the phalanxes are inside the commander's field of command, they'll take little or no damage (assuming that the commander has been leveled up throughout the game) from the archers. After killing the horsemen, kill the archers and the magician (killing the magician will make reinforcements arrive). Kreuger will also be a bothersome existence. He is surrounded by four high elves. The elves are archers and they're immune to offensive magic. Even casting "Decline" on them won't do much. It's recommended that you use (McLaine's) nixies and hit Kreuger with them. Since nixies cannot walk through the castle, have them circle around the castle by water. The nixies will be able to cross the "bridge" that divides one area of water so they can get within striking range. Don't waste time hitting the high elves for extra experience - just hit Kreuger with four nixies (if you're a sucker for experience, go ahead and kill the elves - Santa won't be pleased, though ^_^). After getting rid of Kreuger, kill the upper-left priest. Pay attention to the "reinforcement" soldiers as well. On the right side, do the same thing (use Lanford to kill the foot soldiers and have another character capable of hiring phalaxes take out the horsemen) as was explained for the left side. Use magic to destroy the arbalests surrounding the upper magician (located opposite Kreuger). You can't kill the magician quickly so wipe out the arbalests first. After the arbalests are gone, Go up and kill the upper-right priest and his soldiers. After they're gone, hit Gizarov's arbalests with magic (keep in mind that his arbalests have a slightly higher magic defense but they're still weak against magic). After those are gone, kill the magician that used to have arbalests with archers. The "reinforcements" shouldn't be too hard to kill, unless they manage to catch up to you before you can kill a large number of enemy forces. They will take a long time to catch up so keep that in mind. The "middle" foot soldiers will make a move once anyone from your party sets foot in the "middle" area. The commander will cast Heal1 and that'll be about it. If you wasted all of the other soldiers except Gizarov at this point, they won't be hard to kill. As for Gizarov, you should know that he casts "Meteor" very often. That won't be much of a threat once other Gizarov supporters are gone. If you want to make your nixies useful, you can have them swing around the castle (by water) and strike Gizarov from behind. SAVE YOUR GAME DURING THE BATTLE!!! After you waste Gizarov, he'll escape. Gizarov drops something during his escape. You'll acquire the "Scholar's Crystal." Landius recognizes it as the crystal that used to be in Gotaal. After the battle, Lanford speaks to Rosensil. She has no idea what's going on. She explains she was locked in her room ever since her father had died. Lanford explains Gizarov tried to make Kreuger the next king. She can't believe her ears. Landius says the war against Caconsis was part of Gizarov's plans as well. Lanford states the woman that they have captured (Jessica) also admits to that. Landius figures she was left behind. She says that's not the case. She says it was no longer necessary to stay close to Gizarov and remained in the castle on her own free will. Landius wonders what that means. Jessica says there's something she wants to talk about. Fealart appears. Fealart says that she's lying to try to save her own life. Jessica calls Fealart, "Bozel." Fealart talks about the crystal as well. Landius asks what that has to do with anything. Jessica pleads that the crystal must not be handed over to Bozel. Bozel doesn't want to hear it and commands the guard to lock Jessica up. Bozel wonders if you're about to believe the woman. IMPORTANT!!! THIS MAY OR MAY NOT DETERMINE WHICH ROUTE YOU GO TO. 1 - I believe the female magic user. 2 - I believe you (Fealart). 1 will take you to route A and your next mission will be scenario 21A. 2 may or may not help you get to route B. Lanford will wonder what happened to Rachel as well. Landius and Ricky are both worried. You say... 1 - Well, she's a kid ==> Rachel's love index -1, Selena's love index +1 2 - Yeah, I'm worried ==> Shelfaniel and Angelina's love index +1 3 - Oh, Rachel... ==> Rachel's love index +1, Shelfaniel, Angelina, and Selena's love index -1 McLaine goes to the dungeon. He says he wants to talk to the woman and asks the guard to leave for a moment. The guard leaves. McLaine asks what she knows. She doubts he can believe her. He says he feels he can believe her. Although he has been fighting on the side of Caconsis, he had to keep silent because he didn't want to cause any trouble with the alliance. She's still in a foul mood. McLaine attempts to change the subject and asks if there's some type of magic that can restore memory. Jessica becomes puzzled. He explains he's missing about a year's worth of memories. Jessica asks what the point of that is, especially since people live strange existence and sometimes seals off unpleasant memories on purpose. If he himself sealed off those memories, Jessica suggests he would be better off not remembering. McLaine figures they're not happy memories - but he's suffering from not knowing what had happened to him. McLaine thought the she would understand... He calls the guard and says that he's finished. Saisho places the crystal in the castle's treasure room. Saisho wonders why Gizarov wanted it. He makes his exit and Fealart/Bozel appears. Fealart/Bozel says he came to get his property back. Bozel takes the crystal and Saisho doesn't understand why. Bozel states once again that the crystal is his property. Now that the crystal is his, he has no need for help from humans. He kills Saisho and the guards. Ivar makes and appearance. Ivar introduces himself. Bozel: If you want to be hired, go ask Frederick... Ivar: No, I want to be of help to you. You can make this world settle down. I would be most happy if I could be of assistance. Listil teleports in. She "almost" makes the mistake of calling him "Bozel" (again). He says that it is no longer necessary to call him by "that" name. Bozel orders Listil to take him with her. They disappear. In the guest room... Ricky: According to my deductions, that Fealart guy is a demon. McLaine: Wha..?!? You mean you couldn't figure that out until now?!? Ricky: Well, I... what I meant to say was... McLaine: Go ahead and say it. Ricky: Uh... Fealart/Bozel teleports in. Bozel wants to talk to Landius about a certain matter. Bozel: My real name is Bozel. I had reasons to use an alias. There's something I want to ask you. What do you think of this stagnant world? Don't you want to change it with your own will? Landius: You say that this world is sitting in stagnation..? Bozel: That's right - Stagnation. Stagnation will not bear fruit to anything. The world is constantly moving so a new era comes about. In order to rid the stagnation, it is necessary to borrow the power of CHAOS. McLaine: The power of chaos? Bozel: Destruction and resurrection. That is the power of chaos. Accepting the baptism of CHAOS is the way to save the world from stagnation. Now answer me. What do you think? Note: If your alignment is 104 or lower, you'll automatically give the answer, "I'm happy with this world" and got to route A. If your alignment is somewhere from 105 to 111, you'll get three choices. 1 - I'm happy with this world. 2 - This world isn't stagnant! 3 - Stagnation isn't good at all. If your alignment is 122 or higher, you'll automatically choose "Stagnation isn't good at all" and go to route B. Choosing other answers will take you to route A. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 21A ----- Bozel places the crystal on the alter. The crystal divides itself into two swords - Langrisser (sword of light) and Alhazard (sword of darkness). Bozel says that it's been 200 years since since he held Alhazard. A gang calling themselves the "Guardians of Light" sealed the power of Alhazard with Langrisser. Bozel summons CHAOS. CHAOS is pleased with Bozel. CHAOS summons his own monsters and commands them to bring more chaos (no pun intended, I assure you) to the world. Frderick is informed of a large army of demons headed their way. Lanford wonders if what Jessica was saying was true. Jessica says that "Fealart" is actually Bozel, the prince of darkness. Jessica explains she has been enemies with Bozel for a VERY long time. She explains the existence of Langrisser and Alhazard. The swords were... the crystal. In order to seal off the power of the demon sword, the sword of light (Langrisser) merged with Alhazard to form a crystal. The crystal was then stored in heaven. Ricky wonders if the crystal was kept in heaven, what it was doing on land. Jessica replies that it was stolen. The monsters going on a rampage is proof that Bozel now has Alhazard. Winning conditon: Kill Ivar Losing condition: Death of Landius Lanford: I never knew that a castle existed here... McLaine: Maybe this is their magical power? Ricky: That's not necessarily true. The demons may have built it. They're stronger than humans and some can fly. It's not impossible fore them to have built this in a short amount of time. McLaine: Whoa... Ricky's saying something that makes sense for once! Ricky gets pissed off. Ivar laughs - and keeps calling himself a genius. There's a rather funny Japanese pun that would lose its flavor if translated at this point... =P Ivar takes it as an insult (it was) and becomes furious. Ivar: Don't just call me, "Genius Military Strategist Ivar!" Call me, "Genius Magical Military Strategist Ivar!" Angelina: Maybe you should lose the "Magical" since you're such a loser. Shelfaniel: Lose... Loser. Hee, hee! That's so funny! Ivar wanted to be addressed as, "Tensai Magunshi" instead of his original, "Tensai Gunshi." The "ma" refers to "magical" and Ivar wanted to be addressed by his new title. Angelina says he should drop the "ma" since he didn't have the "ma" in the first place. To drop, or to lose, is the verb "nukeru." *Nuke* (not nuclear) is a command form of the verb, "nukeru." Since Ivar's original title lacked a "ma," Angelina suggested Ivar to drop/lose it. This was a pun on Angelina's part. "Manuke" means idiot, dumbass, dope, dullard, cretin, etc. I figured my English translation above would have been appropriate for an English version of Langrisser IV if Masaya existed in the US or if someone licensed the game (alas, that will never happen, so I wrote this FAQ). Selena warns you of the Ramias (surrounded by ballistas). You reply... 1 - Roger ==> Selena's love index +1 2 - Why? ==> No change 3 - I already know ==> Selena's love index -1 Ballistas are related to arbalests and are weak against magic as well. Listil will get peeved at Ivar for making her (and the others) wait. The "holy" magician will say to Ivar that at this rate, the enemy (you) will surround them. Ivar will say to bear with it until his "trick" is unleashed. (This will happen if you attack her or her bone golems.) Once you attack the chaos dragon (or its units) in the middle, Ivar will say everything is according to plan and he's about to use his "trick." Listil will say, "What the hell are you talking about?!?" (Ivar's a dumbass ^_^) After you waste the dogs and the death spirits, he'll INSIST that everything is going according to plan. After Listil gets wasted, she'll say she's had enough of the idiot (Ivar) and leave. After Listil is gone, Ivar will try to escape. Cast "quick" on your party members to make sure he doesn't get away. Battle strategies: You'll want to hire soldiers with high magic defense ratings because you'll get hit my "meteor" a lot - more than in the previous scenario. Concentrate magic attacks on one of the ballista groups. After destorying one group, hit the ramia with long distance archers. Destroy the other ballistas. (You probably won't have enough time to kill the other Ramia before confronting enemies on the bridge.) Use the bridge as a bottleneck for enemies and wipe them out. There are bone golems surrounding a magician behind the bridge. Hit them with archers or cast Decline, then hit them with other magic. Kill the other Ramia. After wiping them out, hit the flying units commanded by the dragon. Be careful with your units' HP since you'll get hit by three "meteor" spells (have multiple Heal1 spells ready). Kill the dragon. The dogs and death with spirits are next. Hit the dogs with thunder x2 and finish off the dog commander with anything except fire. Have Selena cast Holyblaze on the spirits and/or hit them with long-distance archers. Do not use melee attacks because Ivar's ballistas will nail you. Hit Ivar's ballistas with magic. Naal and Listil will start to move. Hit Listil and Naal with long- distance archers (nixies are preferable) and don't bother with the witches. After you waste Listil and Naal, hit Ivar. If you can survive the multiple "meteor" attacks, this mission isn't too hard. Once you waste Listil, Ivar will attempt an escape. Another losing condition will be added - the escape of Ivar. DON'T let him escape. Cast "quick" on members who's "turn" is coming up and hit him with everything you have. Kill him and you'll win. After the battle, Jessica will teleport in. Jessica says she wants to help you fight Bozel and will join your party. You'll be able to promote her class three times. CHAOS and Bozel are having a meeting. CHAOS feels something. It's Gendrasil - and he came looking for Alhazard. CHAOS refers to Gendrasil as a second-class demon god. He asks Gendrasil if he wants to get his ass kicked like the old days. Gendrasil says he didn't predict CHAOS to be resurrected this soon - but feels he still has a chance to win. He intends to become a greater demon god (than CHAOS) by using Alhazard. Bozel becomes worried. CHAOS tells Bozel to relax and let him handle Gendrasil since Bozel doesn't stand a chance. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 22A ----- Winning condition: Kill all enemies Losing condition: Death of Landius McLaine will warn you of Basilisks (if you didn't kill the dog that commands them ASAP). There's a possibility of being turned into stone. Use "cure" to counteract that effect (Selena will tell you this). Battle strategies: Although it will be a "waste" of experience points, it's a good idea to strike the commanders of monster units hard and fast. Your forces will be split into two. I recommend Landius, McLaine, and Selena on the right and Ricky, Lanford, Angelina, Shelfaniel, and Jessica on the left. You'll want to waste the monsters ASAP so you can attempt to kill Naal at the middle of the map. You'll get hit by magic frequently so remember to cast heal spells often. On the left side, use Ricky's phalanxes to kill the Basilisks and the dog commander (cerebrus). Follow up with Lanford's troops and kill the other monsters. You'll want to keep Lanford and Ricky's troops in the commanders' fields of command since there are witches that will kill anyone with a weak defensive rating at the top. After the initial monsters are gone, kill the witches and their commander with Ricky's or Lanford's troops. This will allow your other units to attempt an attack on Naal. On the right side, use Selena's phalanxes to kill the dogs and have Landius and McLaine waste any enemies within striking range. DO NOT go down the room since there will be witches that will open fire if you go too far down. Don't worry about the monsters in the upper section (Listil, etc.) other than for magic attacks. When striking Naal, even your strongest forces will have trouble reaching him since his goons (spirits) have high offensive and defensive ratings. Cast decline, then Holyblaze, and use priest-class soldiers since ordinary soldiers, even those headed by Landius and/or Lanford will be at a disadvantage. After killing Naal, go after the "death" and witches in the lower room on the right side. Decline/Holyblaze/priest-class soldiers work well on "death." Go after the withces using Selena and her phalanxes. What's left will be some demon units and Listil. It's quite possible to have killed the demons using archers before killing the witches in the lower room. If not, and if you killed all of the other monsters so far, the demons won't be a problem. After killing the demons, go after Listil but remember that her goons are very powerful, just like Naal's. Note: Before killing all the monsters, try opening a treasue box on the right side of the room. There are two boxes but you can only open one. If you open one, the other cannot be opened. After Listil's HP drops to zero, she will tell you where Bozel is - the basement. The entrance to the basement does not open unless Listil and every demon on the floor dies. They die. At the basement, CHAOS and Gendrasil are still fighting. Gendrasil loses and teleports. CHAOS says Gendrasil is a lot more powerful than he used to be. He briefs Bozel of what Gendrasil really is - a member of the demon tribe that acquired the power of a lesser god. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 23A ----- Winning condition: Kill Bozel, kill CHAOS Losing condition: Death of Landius Ricky will notice something behind Bozel. Jessica recognizes it as the Langrisser. Jessica will say that only a member of the tribe "of the light" may wield Langrisser - because the sword has it own consciousness. Landius will ask if there's such a person in the room. Jessica replies that she's the only one. Jessica wants Landius to take the sword anyway - figuring MAYBE the Langrisser will accept him. Battle strategies: In order to kill CHAOS, Landius must have the Langrisser. If CHAOS is killed by someone other than Landius or Landius' units *OR* by Landius/Landius' units without the Langrisser, CHAOS will be resurrected and you'll have to kill him again. The Langrisser is located at the alter behind Bozel. Bozel is tough to kill, so don't send any "wimps" after him or his goons. Before you can get to Bozel, you'll have to deal with a horde of monsters. If you made it this far in the game, you should know how to exploit matchups and how to deal with witches. Kill the enemies slowly but surely. One big problem is CHAOS. He'll move around and make your life miserable. The best strategy to deal with him to to use your party members on the right side to lure him out. After killing the bulk of the monsters on both sides, you'll want to temporarily withdraw the forces on the left side and make CHAOS go after your forces on the right side. The forces on the right side should make CHAOS and his demons run in a circle. This makes CHAOS take a lot of time in movement and in casting magic. Use this opportunity to use the forces on the left side to kill enemies on the upper platform, including Bozel. After Bozel is gone, have Landius go to the alter ASAP to collect the Langrisser (he *should* have enough time to get there, even if he was part of the forces drawing out CHAOS to run in circles). Once Landius has the Langrisser, kill CHAOS' demons (with anyone) and weaken Chaos by any means (magic attacks won't do a thing to him unless you cast "Decline" first, then Holyblaze). The finishing blow should be applied by Landius' troops or by Landius himself. After the battle... Landius is concerned with a certain someone... 1 - Shelfaniel 2 - Angelina 3 - Selena 4 - Some other person Pick the girl you're after. If Rachel is the girl you're after, choose 4. If Rachel is who you want, there's a problem. Since Rachel is currently MIA... You'll see a special event. If the girl that you're after has the minimum love index points, she'll become bashful and accept Landius' love. Otherwise, she'll turn him down. =P If the girl accepts your love, you'll get to see a special CG screen. Otherwise, you won't get to see anything special. If you see the special image, you'll be prompted to move on. 1 - yes, 2 - no. Selecting "no" will allow you to see the picture more longer. Otherwise, you'll go to the next scanario. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 24A ----- Back at Gizarov's HQ... Gizarov says Gendrasil was so close, yet so far. After destroying the seal that imprisoned him, Gendrasil lost to CHAOS and turned back into a crystal. Gendrasil had assumed that he had controlled Gizarov - but it appears as though that was the opposite. Gizarov's goal was to acquire Gendrasil's powers in the first place. Before, Gendrasil's powers were too great for Gizarov to take away - but now that he is battered and beaten, Gizarov feels that his goal can be achieved. Gendrasil warns Gizarov's human body won't be able to handle it. Gizarov says the girl (Rachel) who will serve as the catalyst and the giant magic machine are ready - and the preparations have all been made. Gizarov intends to absorb Gendrasil's powers. Any excess energy that he and the machine can't handle is to be absorbed by Rachel. Jessica says she will go "home" - because she is not of this world. Now that Bozel is gone and she has retrieved both swords (Langrisser, Alhazard), she does not have a reason to stay. Some "evil shockwaves" are felt by both McLaine and Jessica. Jessica says the waves and McLaine's memory loss may be related. Jessica casts a spell to make McLaine feel better. A messenger arrives. The messenger says Rachel has been spotted at Gizarov's lab. Jessica decides not to "go home" because she feels Gizarov may have acquired the powers of the demon god. Winning condition: Kill Bruno Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: Before the battle, you'll want to strategically place your magic users to be in range to kill ballistas. Since magic range is longer than the ballistas' ranges, you don't need to get too close. Wipe out the ballistas with magic, then hit the commanders with the Decline / offensive magic spell combination. Be aware of the flying units from the right side as well. After killing the ballistas and initial front-line monsters, you'll want to cross the "gate." This gate won't pose much of a problem for foot soldiers (including spearmen) - but other units (like horsemen) won't be able to go through. Activate the moving switch (it's obvious) by going up next to it. This will "open" the gate and it'll be easier for your units to go through. Once they are through, a second wave of attacks will come. Again, exploit any matchups. The dragons are weak against wind - casting Decline, then a wind magic on them will quickly cut down their HPs. After the second wave is gone, killing Bruno won't be very hard. Just remember that... Shelfaniel attacks Bruno ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 Shelfaniel kills Bruno ==> Shelfaniel's love index +2 Angelina attacks Bruno ==> Angelina's love index +1 Angelina kills Bruno ==> Angelina's love index +1 ...which is somewhat pointless since one of them would have already accepted/rejected Landius by now. After the battle, Rachel will be discovered. She is in a trance. Jessica takes a look at Rachel. Rachel's body is still alive - but her mind is gone. At this rate, her body will die soon. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 25A ----- Winning condition: Kill Gizarov, kill Kreuger Losing condition: Death of Landius Before the battle, several characters (well, all of them) have a grudge so they exchange words with Gizarov. (Landius and Ricky - you know the story, McLaine - he was one of Gizarov's failed experiments AND McLaine's sister is dead (play Langrisser V for more about her), etc.) Battle strategies: Since this is the last mission, there is no need to kill the commanders' goons - just hit the commanders first, if you can. Long-range archers will come in very handy in this mission (unless they're arbalests). Only hire units with a strong magic defense rating. Nixies will be invaluable. Place your commanders in strategic locations - since that will determine whether you win or lose - quickly. Know what your forces are capable of casting - and cast the magic spells. Use magic spells that hit more than one enemy group (Holyblaze, Thunderstorm, Fireball, etc.) and wipe out the ballistas. The commanders of the ballistas (magicians) will still be around so kill them with archers. (Nixies are best here.) There will also be vampires with witches. Use Lanford to kill one group and have Selena go after the other (if she's not too busy casting magic) OR use nixies to hit the other. Some monsters will also make a downward movement. On the right side, there will also be dragons. Weaken the dragons with archers and/or Decline/wind magic, then use Landius' forces to wipe them out. Monsters on foot will also be bothersome here so plan your attacks wisely. After the "striking distance" enemies are gone, the remaining enemies will be located at the top. Now, nixies cannot move in this mission (unless a "quick" spell is cast on them - in that case, they can move one step). What good are they after killing the magicians and other enemies? Nixies are excellent if one of your magicians have the "teleport" spell (hopefully, you leveled up one of your magicians enough for at least one of them to have learned this spell; Jessica is such a magician). You can use the "teleport" spell and warp in a commander and nixies - and surprise! The enemy commander can't do a thing about it. Just remember that when you teleopt nixies, 1.) make sure that all 4 nixies are in range to strike an enemy commander, 2.) make sure that the target enemy's turn or the target's mercenaries' turns to move doesn't come before the nixies' turn to attack, 3.) make sure that the commander of the nixies aren't separated from them. This technique is very useful against all of the enemies in the top row. Kill the remaining demons, kill Kreuger, and all that will be left will be Gizarov and his elves. When approaching Gizarov, take caution - even phalanxes and other highly rated soldiers will have trouble fighting them in close combat - on account that these elves' statistics are ridiculously high. Casting Protection1 or 2 AND Attack1 or 2 on your units before striking the elves may be necessary to avoid a suicidal attack. Nixies have a longer range than elves so that's another idea. Once the elves are gone, don't hit Gizarov with direct physical attacks yet. Cast Decline, Holyblzae, and use some archers to weaken him. After Gizarov's HP becomes a 5 or lower, KILL GIZAROV WITH LANDIUS!!! Landius is equipped with the Langrisser - and if he's not the one that kills Gizarov, then Rachel will die and you'll get a "bad" ending. (You might want to save your game before hitting Gizarov to see what kind of different endings you can get). If you killed Gizarov with Landius, Rachel will wake up. If not, she'll die. Killed Gizarov? Congratulations - you're done. Go replay the game to play through the B and C routes. _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 21B ----- This is the "evil" path. This path is somewhat difficult since you won't have much of an opportunity to raise your characters' levels. Distribute experience points wisely. Ricky asks if Landius is serious about joining forces with the demons. Landius is convinced chaos is the only way the world can be "saved." Ricky wants to say goodbye to Shelfaniel and McLaine says Ricky can stay behind if he wishes. This annoys him - but he doesn't want to go without saying a word. Landius knows saying anything about what they're about to do to anyone will make those people try to stop them. Bozel suggests writing a letter - and says he'll at least wait until that's completed. Angelina enters the guest room. Angelina finds a letter. "The three of us have joined forces with the demons in an attempt to evolutionize this chaotic world. What we are about to do will look as though we are trying to destroy it - and speaking to anyone about this will prompt them to stop us. That is why we have left this castle without saying a word. Please forgive our selfishness." Gendrasil finds it amusing Bozel now has the crystal. Gizarov says that he has something "interesting" planned. Bozel takes Landius, Ricky, and McLaine to his hideout. Listil and Ivar meet them there. Ivar is surprised to see "them" (and vice versa). Bozel asks if they know each other. Ricky explains how rare it is to find someone as incompetent Ivar (after all, he did lead the Caconsis army to their deaths). Bozel understands and gives Ivar some magical powers. Bozel places the crystal on the alter and it transforms into two swords (Alhazard and Langrisser). If you want to know the rest of the story, go re-read scenario 21A. Bozel says he'll give the Langrisser to Landius because it's useless to him (only a "chosen" human can wield the Langrisser; demons cannot wield it). The Langrisser is now yours. Naal comes in to inform that Gizarov is attacking - with something weird. Since Bozel needs to prepare a ceremony for CHAOS, he wants Landius to stop Gizarov's forces. Listil joins your party. You can promote her three times. Naal joins your party. You can promote him three times. Ivar joins your party. You can promote him three times. Winning condition: Incapacitate Rachel Losing condition: Death of Landius Before the battle, DO NOT FORGET TO EQUIP LANDIUS WITH THE LANGRISSER. Landius wonders and asks Listil about the "giant." Listil doesn't know. Ivar does - he explains that it's an ancient war machine that can be controlled by anyone who rides in it. Ivar also explains there were automated war machines at one time; a piloted war machine is several times stronger than automated ones. Ricky asks how Ivar knows such a thing. Listil explains why Ivar has the knowledge. When Ivar received some powers from Bozel, Ivar also acquired knowledge. Ivar adds only someone of great magical capacity is able to operate the war machine - and wonders if an ordinary human can handle the stress of piloting it. Landius: In other words, there was someone who can handle it after all. Rachel: That's right. I am special - I was chosen by Master Gizarov. I am different from ordinary goons such as yourselves! Battle strategies: Let the enemies come to you. Don't charge at the enemies from the beginning of the battle. Use warriors with high defensive abilities draw the fire of enemy archers. If you have long-range archers such as witches or yeagers, use them to strike at archers that have shorter range (bow knights, elves, sky archers, etc.) - don't bother hiring arbalests since they're too slow. As usual, take advantage of mismatches and heal your party often. After killing a certain number of enemies, backup will arrive. The backup units aren't that tough (2 archmages and 4 yeagers) waste them like you wasted the others. When you try to hit Rachel, she'll kick your ass. You'll have to use Attack1, Attack2, Protection1, and Protection2 as much as possible. Her magic defense is 120 so casting Decline will reduce it to 90. After that, you'll only do 1 point of damage per magic spell. Don't bother with offensive magic; use support magic instead. Whoever your strongest soldiers are (offense, defense, etc.) use all 4 mercenaries and surround Rachel. (It helps if Naal is a Chaos Dragon...) Use Ivar and Listil's Heal1 spell (...and if they can cast it, have Ricky and Landius cast Heal1 as well) to heal the mercenaries. It'll take a while, but that should be enough to destroy the machine. After the battle, Listil will say that Bozel can undo the brainwashing Rachel has gone through. Bozel undoes the brainwash and tells you to go defeat Gizarov since he must still prepare for the ceremony. Rachel says she knows where Gizarov's laboratory is. Rachel joins your party again. You'll be able to promote her. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 22B ----- Winning condition: Kill Gizarov Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: If you played through the "A" scenario, this map should be familiar to you. The starting positions of your forces will be slightly different. The tactics are basically the same with scenario 24A - except you won't be facing monsters/demons. Remember the "switch"? It's the same map. Just be patient like in scenario 24A and you'll be fine. Just remember to heal your party often near the "gate" since you'll get hit by many magic attacks. During the battle, Rachel says something rather... disturbing. "I'll kill anyone who gets in the way of master Bozel." Also during the battle, Gizarov will order Kreuger to take the crystal of darkness and escape. Gizarov says that there's nothing to worry about and this is only a precautionary measure - because it mus tbe protected at all costs. Kreuger will teleport away. After Gizarov's HP reaches 0, he'll die. The federation/Caconsis army will receive news of Gizarov's death. It is also reported that Bozel's troops (Landius, etc.) won the battle convincingly. Jessica says as powerful a magician as he was, Gizarov was only human. Lanford starts to worry that Bozel may summon CHAOS and will eventually become unstoppable. Jessica explains the crystals are actually a sword (well, two swords). 1000 years ago, CHAOS, who rules with chaos (hey, don't blame me for the translation - "konran" is "chaos" in Japanese) created Alhazard. Bozel gathered the strength of the demons with Alhazard and attacked the human world. The Langrisser was a sword which was made to fight against them. 200 years ago, the power of Langrisser was able to seal the power of Alhazard. The swords melded together and became a crystal. The crystal was kept in heaven until some demon god took it and hid it in the numan world. The demon god's name is Gendrasil, who consumes the souls of humans who have died in wars. Jessica also reiterates Bozel intends to use Alhazard to summon CHAOS. Everyone agrees that they can't let that happen. Lanford refuses to let Emily go into battle. Wheeler asks Selena to stay behind - but she refuses. She says she's not worried about countires falling, etc. but she's worried about Wheeler the most - and doesn't want to lose him. (She confesses her love to Wheeler ^_^; Emily does the same with Lanford. ^_^) Wheeler says if that's the truth, then he can't allow Selena to go to battle - and Lanford feels the same way about Emily. Wheeler and Lanford leave. Angelina says men are stupid. _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 23B ----- Winning condition: Kill Wheeler, kill Lanford, kill Burke Losing condition: Death of Landius Before the battle, Wheeler asks you if you feel like surrendering since he would prefer not to fight. Naturally, you will fight. Battle strategies: TAKE OUT THE MAGICIAN SURROUNDED BY ARBALESTS FIRST. After you kill the enemies in the bottom section of the map and by advancing north, Wheeler will spring a "surprise" on you - a large number of water units will appear. Don't let your mercenaries/hired soldiers drift too far away from the commanders. Nixies are the most dangerous enemy units so hit the commanders that command them unless you have your best soldiers near the Nixies for melee combat. Otherwise, hit the commanders to get rid of the Nixies. The ones that command lizards aren't anywhere near as dangerous unless they wipe out your weaker units and commanders. If you made it this far in the game, you'll know what to do. After killing one of the enemies in the upper levels, Emily and Selena will enter the fight. The winning condition will now change - you must send Selena and Emily to their graves as well. After the battle, the news of the commanders' deaths (Wheeler, Lanford, Burke, Emily, Selena) is reported to Frederick, Shelfaniel, etc. Jessica is about to take off - because her mission is to prevent CHAOS from returning. Shelfaniel and Angelina offer their help. _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 24B ----- Winning conditions: Kill all enemies -OR- defend Bozel for 20 turns Losing conditions: Death of Bozel -OR- death of Landius Battle strategies: If you'll look at some of your enemies' statistics (Shelfaniel, Angelina, etc.) they're maxed out (and you wonder, "Why weren't they THIS strong when they were in my party?!?"). This is the final mission - there's no need to gain experience points here so just hit the commanders and to hell with their mercenaries, unless they get in the way in terms of your own mercenaries reaching the enemy commanders. Look out! ALL ENEMIES ON THIS LEVEL ARE TOUGH. You'll have to use Decline, offensinve magic, your strongest melee soldiers, etc. to survive in this level. It's going to be almost impossible to kill everyone (if you don't get killed first) so try to defend Bozel instead of trying to kill everyone. After one of your soldiers (or a commander) reaches the middle section of the map, Kreuger will appear - and he'll be changed. Gendrasil and Kreuger have merged - and they are now one. They're not alone - a horde of soldiers and monsters will be accompanied by Kreuger. They will also fight Jessica/Shelfaniel/Angelina's forces so just escape to the north. After Angelina or Shelfaniel dies, Jessica will undo the spell Bozel cast on Rachel that "undid" Gizarov's brainwash spell (assuming Rachel is still alive). Rachel will ask why you (Landius) is cooperating with the demons. You answer... 1 - It's to make this world evolve 2 - ...so I can conquer the world It doesn't matter. If your alignment points are high enough, Ricky will become an enemy as well. If a number of Kreuger's monsters get wasted, they will come back. The only way to stop them is to kill Kreuger. Don't bother. Just keep everyone at bay by setting up a defense line. The "steps" are a good place to set up your defense. You don't have to kill Rachel or Jessica but feel free to do so. After 20 turns or after you kill all enemies, CHAOS is resurrected - and it's all over. Demons have conquered the world. You win. _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 17C ----- This is the path where you literally turn just about everyone into an enemy. Caconsis is now your enemy. The federation is your enemy. The demons led by Bozel are your enemies. The dumbass Caconsis was not pleased with your refusal to form an alliance with Frederick and the demons. He takes Rachel hostage and orders Landius, Ricky, and McLaine to take down a stronghold. He intends to kill you after you return from your mission. Winning condition: Incapacitate Listil, incapacitate Naal Losing condition: Death of Landius Note: You may experience a "bug" before the battle, where the voices of the characters don't match. If you loaded a game, you probably won't experience the bug - but if you play straight through without loading, you may. Battle strategies: Hopefully, Landius has the Heal1 spell acquired from the character making mode. It helps if Ricky *AND* McLaine are both Serpents. If not, you'll want a balanced attack to counter the enemy units. Golems and their mercenaries are considered spearmen. Tigers and dogs are considered "knights." Listil and her "lesser demons" are in the demon category (but you don't have any priest-class units at the moment). The others are water units. Since Listil can cast magic, go down the map and make mincemeat of Naal first. (Listil may make your life hell if she cast MP drain; that'll cripple you when you try to cast Heal1.) Unless you have water units of your own, don't take your land soldiers into the water and let a fight start. Archers will be useful for attacking enemies before they can reach you - but if the enemies come above the water for close combat, land unit archers will still have a disadvantage against water-based units on land. If you don't like the archer strategy, you can draw water enemies to land and let them give themselves a handicap. After you kill the enemies at the bottom section of the map, go up and make short work out of Listil. During the battle, Listil will ask why you said "something like that" (when she came to offer the news of an alliance). You answer... 1 - "Something like that"? ==> No change 2 - I hate demons ==> Listil's love index -1 3 - It's my gut feeling ==> Listil's love index +1 4 - Specifically, I don't like YOU ==> Listil's love index -2 After the battle, Listil will ask if she can join your forces. Having failed her mission, she can't go back to Bozel. You answer... 1 - That's what would be convenient for YOU, wouldn't it? ==> Listil's love index -2 2 - Do as you please ==> Listil's love index +1 Listil will join your party. You'll be able to promote her twice. Naal will also join your party. You'll be able to promote him twice. The Caconsis forces and Kreuger are in a battle. Kreuger's forces are being pushed back so he orders a retreat. Bozel is there. If you'll recall the "route A" path, you were responsible for saving Bozel's ass in scnario 17A (he was called "Fealart"). Since you refused to cooperate with the demons, Selena and Shelfaniel went to rescue "Fealart" without you. King Caconsis wants an alliance with Frederick to fight Gizarov; Fealart's death would have finished any hopes of accomplishing that. Fealart teleports away (which makes you wonder why he didn't do that in 17A) and will tell Federick (specifically, Saisho) of the good news. Gizarov leaves the defense of a stronghold (the one King Caconsis wants taken down) to Ivar. Gizarov knows Ivar is a dumbass but figures no one will bother attacking the stronghold Ivar was ordered to defend. (In other words, he placed the idiot in a location where he can't do any harm.) Federation soldiers arrive at an orphanage and take the children hostage. (The reason for this will be revealed below.) Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 18C ----- Kreuger reports that he failed to prevent the Caconsis-Frederick alliance. Gizarov says to relax since he already has a countermeasure in action. Bruno delivers Wheeler a letter. Bruno exits. "We have taken the children in your orphange as hostages. If you want them back, say nothing to anyone and come to the following location." Angelina is worried. Shelfaniel knows the reason - their father ordered the deaths of Landius, Ricky, and McLaine. Shelfaniel tells Rachel that Landius pissed off the king - and the king ordered the princesses to attack Landius. Shelfaniel suggests Angelina should leave the castle while she still can - because fighting Landius will be inevitable if she remains in the castle. Angelina runs and Rachel follows. Angelina has made up her mind - she's going to leave. Angelina has a "sister complex." She feels Shelfaniel is "cute" and is taken care of by everyone - while she's looked down upon. She wonders why - they were born on the same day. Even their mother used to say that Angelina should protect Shelfaniel - since Angelina is seen as tough. She admits she's not tough at all. Whenever something happens, Shelfaniel always cried first - and Angelina just kept missing the chance to cry herself. In attempt to make Angelina feel better, Rachel tries to mention something Landius used to say... 1 - Use negative emotions in battle ==> Rachel and Angelina's love index -1 2 - A beautiful flower blooms since there's someone that takes care of it ==> Rachel's love index +1 3 - The moon shines because of the sun ==> Rachel's love index +2, Angelina's love index +1 Angelina wants to warn Landius that King Caconsis is out for his head. Angelina asks Rachel if she wants to run from the castle as well. Rachel likes the idea but she figures she'll only slow Angelina's escape. Winning condition: Incapacitate Ivar Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies, part 1: Does this map look familiar? It should. Although it's not the main federation castle where Gizarov was at in the A route, it's the same map. You won't have many soldiers at your command; at the same time, the enemies aren't large in number either. As for where to place your soldiers, place them in a manner such that you can overwhelm one side of the castle's forces. By taking out the enemy forces on one side (left or right), you'll be able to wipe out Ivar's punks easily. With the arbalests, just refer to the route A battle strategies (magic, magic, magic). The magicians can be taken out by archers or by casting Decline, then a barrage of magic attacks. If you're confident enough with the strength of your forces, you can split them into two and attack from two sides. You'll be weaker on each side, but your forces will be able to rush the castle quickly instead of dragging their feet like in the "attack from one side" strategy. Attacking from two sides will be a little more difficult but your forces won't drag their feet and be forced to wait a while before the rear troops catch up with the front line troops. Before the battle, Ivar will brag what a genius he is. Listil will ask if he's really that great. Listil figures Ivar is all talk. You say... 1 - That's right (he's all talk) ==> Listil's love index +1 2 - He's just as he appears ==> No change 3 - He's really awesome ==> Listil's love index -1 Battle Strategies, part 2: You'll get hit by "tornado" often. Use Heal1, Heal1, Heal1, etc. and don't let your HP drop. Ivar will keep saying stuff like, "So you must really want to die..." and "I still have a trick up my sleeve..." but don't let that bother you (after all, he's an idiot). After you beat Ivar to a pulp, he'll escape. Ivar is worried about how to deliver his message of failure to Gizarov. Bozel appears. Bozel offers Ivar power - REAL power, if he's willing to serve Bozel. Ivar accepts. Wheeler arrives at the federation castle and meets Gizarov. Gizarov says as long as Wheeler remains, the children will be safe. Gizarov explains how he and Frederick are battling. Gizarov asks how he should counterattack. Wheeler says if it were up to him, he would draw the Caconsis forces in. Since King Caconsis has a simple personality, he can be manipulated into a trap by using some kind of bait. Gizarov asks what to do with Frederick's forces after Caconsis is lured in. Wheeler suggests an assasination attempt if Gizarov wants to end the war quickly - but in that case, there is no need to draw in Caconsis. On a side note, as a way to influence the citizens, defeating Frederick in open combat will allow Gizarov to claim righteousness. Gizarov can do so since he has King Cleones' will. Based on Wheeler's answers, Gizarov concludes Wheeler has no intentions of screwing with him. Gizarov wants Wheeler to take Kreuger with him - and act upon the "open combat" scenario. Bruno informs King Caconsis a letter has arrived for him. King Caconsis orders Bruno to read it out loud. Bruno says the letter is from Gizarov. The letter states Gizarov is "impressed" with King Caconsis and wishes to have his cooperation. By agreeing, Gizarov will agree to give twice the land King Caconsis has now. (Being the dumbass that he is, he thinks Gizarov is serious about the offer.) Bruno asks what King Caconsis wishes to do. King Caconsis wonders what he should do - accept Gizarov's offer and dissolve the alliance with Frederick -OR- to turn down Gizarov. Bruno then suggests showing the letter to Frederick - with the idea of forcing Frederick to sweeten his side of the deal. Lanford and Burke are about to depart for battle. The plan is for Burke to fight Gizarov's forces head-on while Lanford's forces hit the enemies by outflanking them. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 19C ----- King Caconsis is pleased with the way Frederick's men were suprised by Gizarov's letter. King Caconsis plans to milk Frederick as much as he can. Selena appears. King Caconsis asks how the plans to kill Landius is going. Selena tells him the pursuit isn't on yet - because Wheeler is missing. King Caconsis doesn't want to hear excuses and orders Selena to pursue Landius immediately. Kreuger wonders why Wheeler stopped the army in the middle of nowhere. Wheelers says Kreuger's forces should stay here for the moment because the scouting soldiers should bring back some information. A scout returns, and reports there are forces approaching from the side as well (just as Wheeler predicted). Wheeler takes some forces with him (Wheeler will fight Burke) and Kreuger will face Lanford. Lanford is suprised to see Kreuger's forces - because it's as though Gizarov has a "Wheeler" of his own. Gizarov is not pleased to see Ivar - and orders him to get lost if he values his life. Ivar says to wait, because he brought some information. Ivar suggests Jessica is a spy for Caconsis. (Of course, this "information" was acquired from Bozel.) Gizarov doesn't think so, but Ivar suggests keeping an eye on Jessica. Gizarov forgives him for the moment and orders he greet King Caconsis. Selena and Angelina are about to take off for battle. Winning condition: Incapcitate Shelfaniel and Selena Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: Does the map look familiar? If you played scenario 23B, it should. Your positions are reversed, though. Water units will be very useful here. Nixies are your best friend if you can hire them. If not, use long-range magic to destory the enemy arbalaests as usual, then go with the tried and true scissor-paper-rock (spearmen - horsemen - foot soldiers) strategy. Water units can be moved quickly through the water while land units will be slowed down dramatically. Don't try to kill everything at once; just hit the arbalests and the magician on the right, then hit the arbalests and the magician in the middle, then inch your way toward the bottom of the map. If you go past the halfway point of the map, Angelina will appear. After a while, Shelfaniel will consider her sister an enemy and Angelina will become a playable character. If you move too quickly and don't take out the magicians and the arbalests, you'll have trouble getting Angelina to escape in one piece. When Shelfaniel casts "meteor" on you, you may wonder... "Why couldn't she do that when she was in my party?!?" ^_^ Selena's defense and phalanxes are tough - they're REALLY tough. You'll want to kill the paladin that's between Shelfaniel and Selena first (using Decline and other magic) since you don't want him to heal Selena while you're attacking her. You'll need to take some of your magicians through the water -OR- you'll have to inch your way from the right side and use the land route to "reach" the paladin - but be careful, since Selena will attack you if you get too close. Only your strongest soldiers will have a ghost of a chance to survive Selena and her phalaxes so don't let your magic users get killed by her. As an added note, if you choose not to kill the paladin first, you're taking a calculated risk. You can cast Decline, then hit Selena (and her phalaxes) with Thunder, Fireball, Freeze, etc. but if you don't waste her before the paladin casts Cure, Resist, of some other magic, you'll have to cast Decline on Selena again before your magic spells do any significant damage. Shelfaniel has snipers (they're long- range archers like yeagers) who are somewhat resistant to magic. Cast Decline, waste the snipers with magic, then hit Shelfaniel. After the battle, you'll mention how worried you are about Rachel. Listil will ask who Rachel is - she notices how important she is to you. You answer... 1 - Of course she is ==> No change 2 - This is why demons are... ==> Listil's love index -1 3 - Don't you think one's relatives are important? ==> Listil's love index +1 King Caconsis decides to side with Gizarov since he feels Frederick is a cheapskate. Kreuger has fended off Lanford's forces. Kreuger now wants to use his own plans and wishes Wheeler to go back and strengthen Gizarov's castle defense. Wheeler doesn't plan on doing Gizarov's bidding forever - and plans to only buy time until he can find out the location of the children. Gizarov is pleased with the fact King Caconsis sided with him. Jessica requests something from Gizarov. Jessica wants the "Scholar's Crystal" returned. Jessica explains the incident of 200 years ago (you know the story) but Gizarov does not intend to give up the crystal. Jessica and Gizarov have a magic battle (not the card game). Gizarov becomes wounded. Ivar teleports in and steals the crystal. Ivar teleports away and Jessica attempts a teleport of her own to pursue Ivar. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 20C ----- Bozel is pleased with Ivar's work. (If you played through routes A and B, you know the story.) Wheeler has no leads as to where the children are. He hopes to find *something* before he's forced to lead an army against Caconsis. Kreuger figures Burke's forces are marching along the river. Kreuger puts poison in the river. He guesses Burke is using the river as his soldiers' water supply. Winning condition: Incapacitate Shelfaniel, incapcitate Selena (again). Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies, part 1: This is the same map as 17A. Consider the strengths and weaknesses of your forces and be careful when you distribute your troops. Keep in mind that unicorns and unicorn knights have a high offense but also have a pathetic defense. Before the battle, Listil will say King Caconsis is closer to a demon than a human - since he only thinks of himself and even betrays people who have served him well until the day before. Listil will also say that's normal for demons but asks if that's something that shouldn't be allowed among humans. You answer... 1 - It's not a good thing ==> Listil's love index +1 2 - It depends ==> No change 3 - King Caconsis is actually a demon ==> Listil's love index -1 Battle strategies, part 2: If you have a serpent (Ricky or McLaine), put the serpent and nixies at the bridge. You'll be able to reach the enemies from a long distance + you'll be able to quickly assist the units who are having trouble. During the battle, Angelina will hear from Selena that Wheeler is missing. Later on, she'll wonder what's to become of the kingdom. You say... 1 - Maybe this is the end ==> Angelina's love index -1 2 - That's why we have to try even harder! ==> Angelina's love index +1 3 - Since this is the Admiral (Wheeler), he should be OK ==> No change 4 - Shelfaniel is there, so it should be OK ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 Battle strategies, part 3: Selena will kick your ass if you don't cast Decline on her, then a barrage of offensive spells. Instead of snipers, Shelfaniel will be surrounded by high elves. The high elves, as you should know if you played through route A (Kreuger had them in one of the missions), have a high defense rating against all magic - and casting decline will be next to useless. Your best bets are to use long range archers such as witches, yeagers, nixies (longer range than elves and high elves) *OR* to hit Shelfaniel directly with magic. The high elves don't have the range that arbalests do - but arbalests' magic defense is pathetic. They would have probably been destroyed long before you even reach Shelfaniel. Alternatively, you can send high defense units to kill elves via close combat. After Shelfaniel's HP drops to zero, you'll have a conversation with her. Landius says even Shelfaniel must realize King Caconsis' orders are unreasonable. Shelfaniel then says she can't forgive Landius; as a reason for refusing the alliance with Frederick, Landius stated he didn't want anything to do with demons. Yet here he is - with Listil and Naal in his party. Listil gets pissed off - because Shelfaniel keeps saying, "demons, demons" but Shelfaniel has teamed up with a demon long before Listil introduced herself. Listil says that Bruno is a demon. Shelfaniel can't believe it. Some reinforcements have arrived for Lanford. In the meantime, Burke's men have been poisoned because they drank from the river. Burke does not have enough men capable of fighting. Shelfaniel and Selena report to King Caconsis. King Caconsis does not believe Bruno is a demon. Shelfaniel asks her father to search Bruno's room at the very least. King Caconsis then changes the subject and asks if Landius have been eliminated. She answers no, then adds they found out about Bruno's identity from Landius' party. King Caconsis concludes if they said so, then it must be a lie. Shelfaniel asks her father to search Bruno's room again. He gives in, then orders her to go kill Landius (again). Bozel resurrects CHAOS. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 21C ----- Lanford's forces are pushing back Wheeler's troops. Kreuger appears. Wheeler says Lanford doesn't have too many knights in his ranks; Wheeler asks Kreuger to attack Lanford's flanks with the heavily armored foot soldiers. Bruno enters King Caconsis' room. King Caconsis says this is his room and asks who gave him permission to enter. Bruno says a spy that had orders from Caconsis entered his room earlier. Bruno: It looks like the cat's out of the bag. Caconsis: Out of the bag? What are you talking about? I knew everything in the first place. Bruno: Then you must have known this was going to happen as well! Bruno casts Holyblaze and King Caconsis dies. Bruno is happy he is now freed from listening to the idiot. Thanks to the idiot, the alliance with Frederick fell apart - and feels Gizarov's victory is assured. Winning condition: Incapacitate Bruno Losing conditions: Deaths of any of the following - Landius, Shelfaniel, Selena Battle strategies, part one: Does this map look familiar? It should. This is the same map as scenario 18A. This time, you're not trying to defend Wheeler from an onslaught of monsters. The bridge that worked to your advantage will now serve as a bottleneck for you in this mission. You'll want to have 80% archers and 20% non-archers in this mission since you'll be fighting for a place to step in with your own troops. Nixies will be slow everywhere except in the water, yeagers are weak against magic, witches have a crappy defense while Bruno has witches of his own... it's a tough mission. If you can do without the extra experience points, then kill the commanders who command witches immediately. As for the other non-archer troops, you can mow them down one at a time to gain experience points. Shelfaniel and Selena are in a battle with Bruno. McLaine: It looks like Bruno was a demon after all. Listil: Well, that's what I've said. You answer... 1 - We don't have a choice but to believe it ==> Listil's love index -1 2 - I did have some doubts ==> Listil's love index +1 3 - No, we still don't know yet ==> Listil's love index -1 If you don't care about getting Listil to fall in love with Landius, go ahead and choose 1 or 3. If you choose 2, Listil will want an explanation over your "doubts." Landius will answer that he believed what Listil said, except he was hoping that it was true (that Bruno was a demon). Shelfaniel and Selena see Landius' forces. Selena suggests meeting up with them since that will give them an opportunity to defeat Bruno. Shelfaniel hesitates because she had attacked Landius in the previous missions. You say... 1 - Keep talking like that and I won't help you! ==> Shelfaniel's love index - 1 2 - Just rely on us! ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 3 - Do you hate us THAT much? ==> No change Shelfaniel will inform Angelina of King Caconsis' death. Bettle strategies, part two: You'll have to hurry to reach Shelfaniel before she gets killed because she'll be wide open for attacks against enemy archers. Selena will be fine without assistance for a while but Shelfaniel is no where near as tough. When you reach Shelfaniel, Selena will ask if they should fight as well. you say... 1 - Fight with us 2 - Wait at the bridge If you choose 1, Shelfaniel will become a controllable character. No matter what you do, DO NOT LET SHELFANIEL GET KILLED! A "quick" way to win would be to cast Decline on Bruno, then toss an onslaught of magic attacks before someone casts Cure, Heal1, or Heal2. Of course, wasting Bruno quickly won't allow you to gather the experience points you could get by killing monsters one by one. As an added bonus... Shelfaniel vs. Bruno ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 Angelina vs. Bruno ==> Angelina's love index +1 After Bruno's HP drops to 0, he'll escape and say that he still has a hostage. Your forces will be off to rescue Queen Caconsis and Selena will search for Wheeler. In the meantime, Kreuger and Lanford are still fighting. Lanford can't figure out why Kreuger is here, especially since Burke was supposed to confront Kreuger. Lanford's troops are being pushed back. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 22C ----- Kreuger feels his victory is assured. A messager arrives. He informs Kreuger the front lines are in chaos, thanks to monsters. The soldiers Lanford left behind to defend this position are wasted by Ivar's monsters. Kreuger refuses to pull back and orders his troops to give the monsters a bloodbath. Although Lanford managed to fend off the monsters, casualties are high and there's no way to have a rematch with Kreuger. Lanford decides to pull back for now. Selena is at the orphanage and sees evidence of a struggle. She figures the children were taken hostage. A woman appears. You may recognize her as the woman Wheeler was talking to - and Selena was angered because of her "female jealousy." (The funny part is, more than one woman in the game has the exact same appearance. ^_^) She tells Selena while she was shopping, federation troops attacked the orphange and the children were taken away. Selena figures it was Gizarov - but wonders how he could have known Wheeler ran an orphange its precise location. She figures it out - it was Bruno, since Bruno was a spy. Winning condition: Incapacitate Bruno Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: This time, you're invading Castle Caconsis instead of defending it like in scenario 9. You'll want to take advantage of Shelfaniel's magic-wielding abilities at the beginning. If she can hire arbalests, that will be a plus. The enemies' "front lines" won't be too tough. You can waste the enemy witches with arbalests (which have a longer range than witches) or you can strike the commanders with no regard for gaining experience. A combination of arbalests, Decline, and various offensive magic will waste the enemy front lines in no time. Just be careful with your arbalests' HP since your enemies will cast meteor. If your arbalests get hit, be sure to have several characters use Heal1. After you kill the bulk the the front lines with your magic and/or arbalests, deaths and shades will come forward. "Holy" warriors are strong against them but if you hired arbalests for Listil, then you don't have them - so waste them with the arbalests, Decline, and Holyblaze. After you kill the frontline enemies, pull Shelfaniel and Angelina all the way back to the bottom corners of the map. Rush the castle. Bruno will present his hostage via teleport - Queen Caconsis. At this point, Shelfaniel and Angelina are ordered by Bruno to kill Landius. Fearing for their mother's safety, Shelfaniel and Angelina become your enemies (assuming that they didn't get wasted during the mission). You will now have additional losing conditions. Losing conditions: Death of Landius, death of Shelfaniel, death of Angelina, death of Queen Caconsis Attacking Shelfaniel after she becomes an enemy ==> Shelfaniel's love index -1 Attacking Angelina after she becomes an enemy ==> Angelina's love index -1 If you kill Shelfaniel or Angelina, game over... so put them somewhere out of reach. When you "rush" the inner sections of the castle, you'll get hit by a lot of magic so have your trusty Heal1 spell ready. Now, YOU WILL somewhat struggle when fighting your way to Bruno since you'll get hit by a lot of magic spells. If you survive it, then Jessica will eventually teleport in and offer assistance. She will freeze most of Bruno's actions for you and you won't have to worry about him (or his arbalests) as long as you don't attack him directly. His arbalests won't attack but Bruno will still cast spells. Once Jessica appears, your losing conditions will change again. Losing conditions: Death of Landius, death of Jessica, death of Queen Caconsis Queen Caconsis will get killed only if Jessica gets wasted. Either way, it's game over. Shelfaniel attacks Bruno ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 Angelina attacks Bruno ==> Angelina's love index +1 Listil attacks Bruno ==> Listil's love index +1 Whatever you do, don't let any of the women get wasted when attacking Bruno since the increase in 1 love index point means nothing if she is incapacitated. If Shelfaniel comes close to Queen Caconsis ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 If Angelina comes close to Queen Caconsis ==> Angelina's love index +1 After Bruno's HP drops to 0, he will teleport away. Landius will ask Queen Caconsis where Rachel is. She replies Rachel is not inside the castle. Jessica says Rachel was taken to Gizarov. In the meantime, Gizarov is talking to Bruno... but addresses him as, "Graaz." Gizarov: I see. So you did no more than to kill King Caconsis. That's not like you, Graaz. "Graaz": I am sorry, Lord Gizarov. Gizarov: Then I'll give you a mission more suited to you. In order to assure our victory, go assasinate the head of the resistance - Prince Frederick. "Graaz": Yes... Assasination is an opportunity to utilize my abilities to the fullest. I will certainly send Frederick to his grave. Gizarov: I'll leave it to you, Graaz. Now, Bruno. You heard everything, right? You're a criminal that killed your own master. You have nowhere to go so you'll have to stay with me. When you're ready, return immediately. Bruno: ...Understood. Kreuger can't understand what the deal is with Burno/Graaz. Gizarov tells him he doesn't need to know - and knowing can even kill him. (Gizarov is in a bad mood since Ivar took off with the crystal.) Kreuger apologizes for asking. Lanford is upset because he has to retreat without having accomplished anything. The soldier is concerned about Prince Frederick. Lanford says Emily is watching over the prince so there's no need for concern. Lanford gets an idea. He figures Gizarov/Kreuger's forces know he retreated. Now, what if Lanford himself were to go back to the federation castle alone? While he doesn't have the men to fight an open battle, he figures he can assasinate Gizarov by sneaking into the castle. Queen Caconsis thinks a new King is necessary to replace the one that was assasinated. Ricky suggests the Queen should take command but she doesn't wish to do so. Since this is the case, one of the princesses must become the new Queen. Angelina suggests Shelfaniel take command. Shelfaniel doesn't have the confidence to do so. 1 - Have a little confidence ==> Shelfaniel's love index +1 2 - Angelina will help you ==> Angelina's love index +1 3 - ...but maybe there's some uneasiness in this? ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina's love index -1 What do do now? Angelina wants to go after Bruno. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 23C ----- Bruno returns. Gizarov asks if Graaz was "successful." Bruno says "level 1" of the plan has ended. Gizarov figures Prince Frederick's life will soon be cut short. Gizarov: Now, Bruno. As I stated before, you're a traitor to Caconsis. There isn't a place you can go back to. Now, I'm going to hire you. You are appointed the head of Fort Horphen. Bruno is ordered to protect the fort with his life. Gizarov also orders Kreuger to go with Bruno. In addition, he will not tolerate Kreuger dying. He wants Kreuger to return his side, no matter what. Gendrasil makes his presence known and mildly taunts Gizarov for losing the crystal. Selena's investigation continues. She learns a mysterious carriage has passed by. A woman informs Selena that she heard childrens' voices and the carriage was headed toward Fort Horphen. Winning condition: Kill Bruno Losing condirion: Death of Landius Battle strategies: You'll have to split your forces into two. There aren't enough "starting location" spots for all your forces to start on one side. Split your forces wisely since you don't want any obvious weaknesses in your party exposed on either side. You'll face horsemen (some are bow knights) and a foot soldier that commands phalaxes on the right side. Since there's water on the right side, have Ricky or McLaine ambush a few units with nixies from the water. The land divided by the mountain can also be used to "bottleneck" enemies so you won't have to face everyone at once. Depending on your fighting style, you may see this as a bottleneck not in your favor - if you like open combat, then navigate through the bottleneck ASAP. Just be careful of the enemies' Attack1 and Attack2 spells. Left side: WARNING!!! If you place any "horse" units on the left side, they will NOT be unable to climb the mountain. In fact, this is one mission where horse units won't come in very handy because of the terrain. Horsemen commanders will be able to climb mountains but mercenaries can't. The same thing can be said about the fort that Bruno and Kreuger occupies. You'll face a foot soldier commanding phalaxes on the left side as well; you'll also have to deal with several flying units. Zap the party of skyarchers with any type of offensive magic (skyarchers are weak against all magic) and they won't attack you from long distance. The angels are another story; kill them with melee attacks or cast decline, then hit them with magic (they have a high magic defense rating). If you go too far north, you'll get hit by "meteor" so have heal1 ready. If you move up on the map to a certain degree, the annoying "Genius Magical Military Strategist" Ivar will make an appearance. While it's possible to make Ivar's monsters fight Burno/Kreuger's forces, Ivar's goons will be no match for Bruno/Kreuger. That, and you won't get any experience points if you let that happen. Once Ivar makes an appearance, your winning condition will change to: Kill Bruno *and* incapacitate Ivar. Ivar's monsters are Ivar (with basilisks) and two Orochis (one with dark nixies and the other with poison toads). If you reduce Ivar's HP to 0, he'll escape and take any undefeated monsters with him. After some time, Selena will also enter the battle - her investigation has led her here. Selena is amazed you "knew" about this place and Listil says, "What are you talking about? I don't understand what this is about. This is just a place we ended up at as we advanced." Selena explains she discovered Wheeler is with Gizarov because of the hostages (the children). The fort is where the children are kept. She will say she'll help. You answer... 1 - Please wait there 2 - I'll leave it to you While you can let Selena fight, you won't gain any experience points for any enemies she or her phalaxes kill. You don't have to attack Kreuger to win but if you want the experience points, waste him. You can kill Bruno by casting Decline, then whack him with magic (Holyblaze works the best). If you fight Bruno, Listil will wonder about something... 1 - What's the matter? ==> Listil's love index +1 2 - What are you doing? ==> No change 3 - Stop goofing off! ==> Listil's love index -1 After Bruno's HP drops to zero, Angelina will ask why he killed King Caconsis. He explains (with a disclaimer they probably won't believe him) there was a demon called "Graaz" that controlled his body. Graaz controlled his body for many years and lived in the Caconsis kingdom all this time. Gizarov has some connection with demons - and Graaz was commanded to take over Bruno. Graaz exists by taking over the bodies of others. Before he dies, Bruno explains Graaz left his body and has now taken over Saisho - in an attempt to assasinate Prince Frederick. A woman appears from the basement (she has the same appearacne as the woman I talked about earlier). Angelina suggests contacting Wheeler immediately with the good news. Selena says she will return to the castle to prepare a defense, especially since there's no way to tell when the federation will attack again. Landius is concerned over Graaz and the assasination attempt. Shelfaniel mentions the Caconsis Kingdom no longer has an alliance with Frederick, and worries warning Frederick of this matter will cast doubt in the minds of those willing to listen. Landius asks Listil if she knows anything about Graaz. Listil: There are several worlds for demons... better yet, several "countries" like you humans have. But compared to humans, demons are very unsociable so I don't know much about other worlds. But I have heard of the sinister god Gendrasil. He's a lower god compared to the one we used to serve - CHAOS, the god of chaos. He (Gendrasil) feeds off the souls of those who died in battle. Gendrasil basically wants to defeat CHAOS and become a higher god. Listil has heard of Gendrasil's underling, Graaz, who takes over the bodies of humans. Prince Frederick is assasinated. Saisho can't believe what he has done. Emily orders the guards take Saisho into custody. Graaz has taken over Emily's body. Russell flies the coop, figuring he's not safe after what his father "has done." Lanford successfully sneaks into the federation castle. Lanford notices someone coming and hides. It's Wheeler. Lanford: Long time no see, Wheeler. Wheeler: He... Hey, Lanford. What are you doing here? Lanford: Isn't it obvious? I've come for Gizarov's head. But Wheeler, why are YOU here? Wheeler: W... Well... Lanford: So you were a power-hungry mongrel after all. Wheeler: ... Lanford: You probably don't figure you can beat me with a sword. You'll regret siding with Gizarov. Before Lanford can touch Wheeler, Gizarov teleports Wheeler away. Gizarov teleports in. Lanford says Gizarov's scheming is over since he'll do away with him, along with Frederick taking power. Gizarov laughs, saying since when can *this* kingdom hand over the reign of power to a deceased person. Gizarov informs Lanford of Frederick's death. Gizarov tells Lanford to go back to see Frederick's body, then to attack Caconsis once that's over. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 24C ----- Saisho is about to be executed (and obviously doesn't want to die). Saisho says he was being controlled... and Lanford starts to have some doubts in his mind that Saisho was the hit man. Emily/Graaz informs Lanford that Burke is now occupying a fort and asks what they should do. (Both Lanford and Burke are now under Gizarov's command once again.) Lanford says he'll get some paperwork out of the way and leave the guard duty to Burke. With the death of Prince Frederick, the federation's only enemy is now Caconsis. Wheeler knows he'll be given orders to attack soon - and can't figure out what he should do. Thanks to the "communication mirror," Wheeler is informed that the hostages have been freed. Wheeler says he'll try to find a chance o escape. Landius intends to move on to defeat Gizarov and wished Wheeler to join Selena to defend Castle Caconsis. Kreuger returns, batted and beaten (what's funny is that whether you wasted him in 23C or not, he'll be battered and beaten). He informs Gizarov of the fort being taken over and of Bruno's death. Gizarov is not pleased with Kreuger's ineptness. Gizarov: Well, you are indeed a puppet after all. Perhaps I placed too much hope in a puppet. Kreuger: F... Father! Calling me, a blood relative... a puppet is somewhat harsh... Gizarov: Did you honestly think that you're my real son? We are not father and son! Better yet, you have no parents! You're just a puppet that was created! So why shouldn't I call a puppet such as you a puppet?!? Just be grateful you were treated as a human being all this time! Kreuger: Created..? I... was created..? ARRRRGH!!! Gizarov: If you think it's a lie, go "meet" the device in the magic lab! Because that's what gave birth to you! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Winning condition: Kill Burke Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies, part one: At first, you'll face horsemen and foot soldiers. Later, you'll have to deal with serpents and nixies. Since there's a lot of water in the mission, let Ricky and McLaine wreak havok with nixies of their own. Use your other units to deal with land units the nixies can't reach from the water. There's also a bridge you can use to bottleneck enemies so use that to your advantage. When you first arrive, Ricky will notice there's a federation fort. McLaine will ask you what should be done. 1 - We're going to fight! ==> Angelina's love index +1 2 - Let's ignore it and move on! ==> Angelina's love index -1 3 - What should we do?!? ==> Shelfaniel, Angelina, Listil's love index -1 You're basically fighting this mission to prevent getting attacked from behind after you move on. Listil will be hyped over having an opportunity to kick some ass. You say... 1 - You see seem happy ==> No change 2 - What's so fun about this? ==> Listil's love index +1 3 - Don't do anything unnecessary ==> Listil's love index -1 Battle strategies, part two: After you kill a serpent, Ivar will make an appearance with his goons. Your winning condition changes to: Kill Burke and kill Ivar. If you take too much time, Ivar will escape (you don't need to kill him to win). If you kill him, all monsters he brought with him which weren't killed will escape. After Ivar's gone, Burke and the fort will be alone. Destroy the ballistas with your long-range magic. You don't have to kill everything here, but go ahead if you want the experience points. An easy way to win is to kil a certain amount of enemies (especially those who can cast Heal1) in the fort, then hit Burke with Decline and offensive magic. After Burke' HP drops to 0, Landius will ask Burke why a man such as himself fights under Gizarov. Burke answers he was a soldier inside and out - and follows orders from above no matter what. In addition, he says he may attain happiness by not seeing a world that is ruled by Gizarov. Landius says he and his party will crush Gizarov. Burke asks Landius to do that, since he figures Landius can probably do it. Burke dies. With Burke and Ivar out of the way, Landius figures there's no one left to get in his party's way. Listil mentions Bozel resurrected CHAOS with the Scholar's Crystal. It is then decided your party will strike Bozel before striking Gizarov. Back at Lanford's HQ, Emily greets Lanford. Lanford just saw the wounds on Prince Frederick and concluded only a highly skilled swordsman would have been able to apply the kind of wound inflicted on the prince. He also thinks Saisho was being controlled. Emily/Graaz changes the subjct and informs Lanford of Burke's death. Lanford concludes since the fort Burke was defending was beaten, Castle Caconsis is currently on a paper defense. Lanford will now take his "quick" soldiers (horsemen) and entrusts his main army to Emily/Graaz. Lanford leaves. Graaz communicates with Gizarov via telepathy and tells him that Lanford doubts Saisho was the assasin. Graaz: I understand. I'll look for an opportunity to kill Lanford. Please leave it to me. Kreuger sees the magic lab and sees cloning chambers. He says playing with life like this is sacrilege to god. Gendrasil: Sacrilege to god? You said something interesting. Kreuger: W... Who... is it?!? Gendrasil: Why are you panicking? (Seeing this,) I can't think of you as Gizarov. I am Gendrasil. You humans also refer to me as a sinister god. Kreuger: What did you mean just now?!? That is, me and Gizarov being one and the same?!? Gendrasil: So you don't know anything after all. Very well. I'll tell you everything! You are Gizarov as a young man. Of course you are, since you were created with his cells! Kreuger: His... cells... Gendrasil: To put it simply, you're Gizarov' clone. To put it another way, it's not out of the question to say you ARE Gizarov. Kreuger: ... Gendrasil: How about it? Since you too are Gizarov, you have the capacity to rule the world. But you currently don't have any power. But with my help, it's possible. Just like the way Gizarov climbed up in the world like he has. Kreuger: I see. So you were the one that helped Gizarov attain his tremendous power. Gendrasil: He increased his power and he's forgotten how I've helped him all this time. You have a grudge against him as well, don't you? How about it? Care to join forces with me to exact some revenge? Kreuger: Heheheheheh! Interesting! I like your offer! I'll make him regret creating me! Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 25C ----- Near Castle Caconsis, Selena is defending an area. Emily/Graaz arrives to assist Lanford. Graaz sneaks up on Lanford in an attempt to kill him... but Emily manages to stop Graaz from using her body to do so. Lanford leaves the army for Emily to command. Landius and company arrive at Bozel's HQ. Listil explains Bozel wants to make demons rule the world instead of humans. While it makes no difference to her, she figures Landius & company would be in a pickle if that happened. While Shelfaniel believes if the world can become peaceful, she doesn't care who rules the world. Ricky says since there's a different "Sense of worth" between demons and humans, a world in which they desire will not be attained. Winning condition: Kill CHAOS, kill Bozel Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: It's the same as scenario 23A, except this mission may be a little harder. Remember to distribute your toops wisely. Don't bother with nixies since they won't be able to move in this mission. After a while Jessica will appear (she will not be controllable). After Bozel's HP drops to 0, he'll use his magic to make Alhazard fly away to a distance place. Even he doesn't know where he sent Alhazard. Remember to grab Langrisser with Landius, then hit CHAOS with Landius (or his mercenaries). After CHAOS is dead, Jessica says she needs to search for Alhazard and teleports. Castle Caconsis is under attack. Lanford is impressed with the way Selena has defended the castle. In addition, the flanking units (Emily's) haven't made an appearance - so Lanford is not fighting at full strength. Lanford is informed of Emily's disappearance. Lanford becomes upset; his subcommander had assumed Lanford knew about her disappearance. A messenger arrives for Lanford to inform him of a large force coming their way. Lanford decides to pull out for now. In the middle of nowhere, Kreuger makes an appearance. Gendrasil has led him here. Gendrasil is capable of pinpointing the exact location of Alhazard since he can feel the evil "waves" emanating from the sword. Gendrasil uses his magic to make the sword appear. Kreuger takes the sword. Kreuger asks, "What now?" Gendrasil tell him to close his eyes and relax. Gendrasil has taken over Kreuger's body and materialized in this world. Now that he has Alhazard and since CHAOS is dead, he figures there's no one that can stand in his way. He plans to bloody up Gizarov first. Back at Castle Caconsis, Lanford's troops have withdrawn and Wheeler returns. Wheeler has "outfoxed" Lanford by making some horses drag some trees. With the extra noise made from dragging the trees, Lanford's messenger was fooled into thinking a large force was heading their way. Wheeler now wants to ask Landius to strike Lanford. Wheeler communicates with Landius with the mirror. Landius tells him CHAOS and Bozel have been defeated. Wheeler is just amazed. He then asks Landius for another favor. 1 - Be silent ==> Shelfaniel's love index -1 2 - No one else can do this, right? Hey, Listil... a.) I'm relying on you ==> Listil's love index +1 b.) You're the one that tagged along... ==> Listil's love index -1 3 - Give us the next mission ==> No change Wheeler now requests a strike on Lanford. Wheeler and Selena plan to strike Gizarov's army. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 26C ----- Graaz wanted to kill Lanford without being too obvious about it, but Emily stopped him. Now Graaz will attempt a "melee kill" tactic. In the meantime, Selena and Wheeler are in battle. Selena defeats her opponent, but a sniper attempts and ambush. Wheeler shields her from the attack. (Their feelings toward one another becomes more obvious here.) Winning condition: Rescue Emily and kill all monsters Losing conditions: Death of Emily, death of Lanford, death of Landius This is the last chance for you to buy any *good* items so buy whatever *good* items you can afford after you hire your mercenaries. Lanford *thinks* Emily is being pursued by demons. Listil smells something. She smells the same scent that used to come from Bruno. She says Graaz's scent is coming from Emily. Landius wonders how Graaz can be separated from Emily. Shelfaniel says the Langrisser may be able to do it. Battle strategies: This is one of the toughest missions in the game. While attacking Emily's horsemen is OK (you don't need to), attacking Emily is a no- no... because if she dies, it's game over. At the same time, taking too much time to reach Emily can also be counterproductive - to Lanford's health. If you take too much time reaching Emily (with Landius), Lanford and his men will not fight efficiently and will get wasted. The first order of business is to zap the ballistas near your starting point. Have Shelfaniel zap these things so you can move Landius and others without having to worry about getting hit. Kill the ballistas with magic, then have Landius and/or the mercenaries kill the ramia. Look out for the dragons that swoop in - kill them with arbalests, nixies, Decline + wind magic, anything you can do to kill them - because they're a tough bunch. After getting rid of the dragons, you'll have get rid of some golems from the north. Kill them with strong swordsmen or with Decline, then offensive magic. Some dogs and some "thugs" will attack from the east. The dogs are considered "horse" and the "thugs" are considered "foot soldier." Hit the dogs with a thunder spell - they're weak against magic (but don't use a fire spell; holyblaze is OK). Hit the "thugs" with horse units. Back to Landius. After killing the ramia, have him move closer to Emily. Don't bother attacking her horsemen. Just get close enough with Landius and the Langrisser will do its thing - it will pull Graaz out from Emily's body. Lanford can't figure out what's going on. Landius explains how Emily was controlled by Graaz. Emily explains how Graaz took over Saisho's body, killed Frederick, then took over her body. This was all Gizarov's doing, naturally. Your losing condition will now change just to, "Death of Landius." Lanford will now join your party. You'll be able to promote him. Emily will ask what she should do. You answer... 1 - Go escape where Lanford is! 2 - Escape in the southeast direction! 3 - Stay there. 4 - Do as you please. The choice doesn't matter. Even if she gets wasted, that won't count against you. Lanford will thank you for rescuing Emily. You reply... 1 - As a human being, I only did what I was supposed to do ==> Listil's love index +1 2 - I couldn't forgive Gizarov's actions ==> If Ricky hasn't been wasted, Rachel's love index +1 3 - It's because Graaz killed King Caconsis ==> If Schelfaniel hasn't been wasted, Shelfaniel's love index +1; If Angelina hasn't been wasted, Angelina's love index +1 Once you have control of Lanford, make him and his units move south, then east (where your main force is located at). Once he has the support of your other units, have him and his units kick ass. After Graaz dies, Emily asks Lanford to take care of her "little brother" (Landius). The whole issue of the necklace is revealed to Landius (you know the story). Gizarov is not in the castle. Lanford assumes Gizarov is at his secret laboratory. Lanford will lead them there. At the lab... The Crystal of Darkness is gone and Kreuger is nowhere to be found. Gizarov assumes they have joined forces against him. Even so, the ancient giant warmech is complete - with Rachel on board. Gendrasil teleports in. Gizarov: How did you materialize?!? Gendrasil: With the power of Alhazard, I used your son... no, your clone. It's your body, which had a greater magical capacity than an ordinary person to begin with. It was suited for me to use to materialize. Gizarov: You taught me the cloning process with that intent in the first place?!? Gendrasil: Haahaha! Since you have a very strong life force, I did indeed use you. Now that I have a body, you're just a nuisance. You'll be the first sacrifice for my power! Gizarov: Do it if yo can! This is a Giant Magical Warmech that was made from knowledge acquired from you! Have a taste of its power! The mech is called, "Guyframe." Rachel/Guyframe kicks Gendrasil's ass. Battered and weakened, Gizarov casts a spell on Gendrasil and absorbs his power. Alhazard is now in Gizarov's hands. Now comes the "confession of love" time. Landius says he is the most concerned with... 1 - Shelfaniel 2 - Angelina 3 - Listil 4 - Rachel Just remember that you can't "fall in love" with a girl whose love index points are too low. The same principles explained back in scenario A applies. McLaine can't sleep. He's trying to remember what had happened to him - but he can't. Jessica telports in and talks about how she felt a strange magic power coming from his head. Since that power is sealing his memory... McLaine asks if she know how to get his memory back. She knows, and tells him to be ready for the consequences. Save spot _____________________________________________________ ----- Scenario 27C ----- Winning condition: Kill Gizarov Losing condition: Death of Landius Battle strategies: There's no need to go for experience points here. This is the last mission, so hit the commanders and to hell with experience points! ^_^ Carefully position your troops so you can kill the enemy commanders with ease. Use long-range archers (such as witches and nixies; to hell with yeagers and arbalests) as much as possible. Arbalests and yeagers are too weak against magic so don't bother. Although nixies can't move in this mission, that's not a problem if you have the teleport spell (see my comments in scenario 25A). If you developed Listil enough in the Dark Princess class, she'll have the teleport spell. Although it's unlikely unless you used the level select cheat to pump up Angelina, Angelina can also use teleport if she was matured in the "horseman" path. Basically, this is almost the same as mission 25A except you don't have Jessica and Selena (you have Naal and Listil instead). The starting positions of each commander is slightly different. The enemy units you face will be different. As bosses, instead of Gizarov and Kreuger, it's Gizarov and Rachel (Gizarov will be surreounded by Dark Guards this time). To be honest, this is the HARDEST mission in the game. In order of difficulty... 27C, 24B, 25A, 26C... On the bright side, you don't need to kill Gizarov with Landius to get a "good" ending. You can use arbalests/ballistas (assuming they survive a magical pounding), nixies (cast "quick" on them to allow them a movement of 1), etc., to hit him from long range. If you cast Decline, the only spell that will hurt him will be Holyblaze. Remember: when turn 7 comes, Gizarov's reinforcements will arrive from the bottom of the screen. If Listil has been leveled up enough, her "telport" spell will be your best friend, just like with Jessica back in scenario 25A. When you get all the way to the top, don't bother with Rachel - because if you destroy the mech, she'll die and you'll get a bad ending. Go straight for Gizarov. Since the elves are annoying, kill them with Decline/offensive magic and/or long-range archers. Gizarov will die when his HP reaches 0. _____________________________________________________ Congratulations, you're done. When you beat the game, each character will have an "action rating" and and a "# of defeats" number. The action rating is calculated in the following way: 1.) Kill number: 8 points per one unit killed 2.) Recovery number: 1 point per one character (this means if you cast Heal1 and three chracters recover HP, then you get 3 points) 3.) Magic use number: 2 points per one magic spell cast The total "action rating points" you get at the time of the ending is... (( #1 + #2 + #3 ) / 10) + (Class Level x 10) + Level As an example, assume (( #1 + #2 + #3 ) / 10) = 50. Assume Lanford has been promoted to Holy Swordsman, the highest swordsman class. Assume he is at level 1. Then (( #1 + #2 + #3 ) / 10) + ( 4 x 10 ) + 1 = 91, so his action rating is 91. If he was not promoted to Holy Swordsman and remained a Sword Master (level 8), then (( #1 + #2 + #3 ) / 10) + ( 3 x 10 ) + 8 = 88. The action rating has an effect on the text-based endings. If the action rating is low, then that character gets a "bad" text ending. This usually means the character disappears from the history books and has absolutely no impact on other people's lives after the battle. With a "good" text ending, the character usually accomplishes something BIG. (Each character has a minimum score for a good ending but I currently don't know what those scores are.) The # of times defeated is the # of times that character's HP has been reduced to 0. (Landius' # is always 0, since his defeat means you can't beat a mission.) If this number is 0, then you get the possibility of a good ending (depending on the action rating). If this number is 1 or higher, then you automatically get a bad ending for that character. This usually means that the wounds suffered by that character in battle shortens that character's life span. _____________________________________________________ ----- Cheats ----- Scenario select: At the load menu screen, place the cursor on the data you want to use and press L, Y, right (on the control pad), R, R, A.
