With countless Gundam video games based upon every facte of the franchise, it comes as no surprise that Zeta Gundam would have its fair share of gaming ports. The quality of these games has been hit-and-miss, however, and sadly the Saturn entries lean more to the miss side of the spectrum. Unlike the strategy-rpg offered on the Super Nintendo, the two Saturn Zeta Gundam games, Zenpen (this one) and Kouhen (the sequel), are rather poor side-scrollers that feature nearly identical levels and enemies with different mobile suit skins. The game is very disappointing and I would not recommend purchasing it. If, however, you already have it, by all means take advantage of this guide, specifically the TROUBLESHOOTING section which will no doubt be of great interest to any American gamers. CONTROLS ---------- (Note: The controls can be changed in Options) A: Newtype Attack (hit "Y" to Lock-On to enemies in the back- and foreground, then hit "A") B: Use selected weapon C: Jump (only on "walking" stages) X: Weapon change (left) Y: Lock-On (hit "Y" to Lock-On to enemies in the back- and foreground, then hit "A" to attack) Z: Weapon change (right) CHEAT CODES ------------- View all FMVs Beat the game. WALKTHROUGH ------------- STAGE 1 This first stage takes place on Kamiyuh's home colony. It is a single screen arena in which you must battle the second Gundam Mk II. Not really too much trouble here. STAGE 2 This is your first weightless stage. You can fly anywhere on the screen you like, but be wary that enemies will enter from all sides. The stage will continuously scroll left as GMs fly on to attack you. They're not overly difficult, nor is the Hizack Custom at the end of the stage. Again, shouldn't be too much trouble. STAGE 3 The same as the last stage, except now it scrolls right. The Hizacks act much like the GMs. At the end is the Galbaldy. You will have to defeat it twice to move on. After you defeat it the first time, it flies off the screen and you pursue it to a new screen to do battle once more. STAGE 4 After a long, boring flight, you face Paptimus Scirocco. He's one of the few bosses that has a weakness in his paterns that you can take advantage of. He takes 7 beam saber slashes and if you slash the side of the screen you can generally hit him as he flies in. After you beat Scirocco he retreats and the Marasais begin to fall to Earth. Chase them left and then you face two Marasais at once! They have no real pattern to their attacks, meaning you just have to be quick with the reflexes. This is probably the hardest battle in the game. Once you take out Messa (who will be the first suit you end up defeating), the second will attack you twice as hard as before. STAGE 5 You're back to a level on foot again. Here you fight through the jungle to Jaburo. There are two types of enemies here, Zakutanks and Marasais. The Zakutanks are more of an annoyance than anything else as they're stuck on the ground, while the Marasais in this stage act like most every other mobile suit enemy in this game. At the end you'll fight Jerrid Messa in his Marasai again, but this time he's all alone so he's not nearly as hard as last time. STAGE 6 Similar to last level. The boss is Baran Blutarch. STAGE 7 This is an interesting level, as the enemies here do not move. Just slog right through them until you get to the end. There Rosamia Badam will appear piloting the Gaplant. She can be easily defeated by just ducking down and slashing. Almost to a 'T' she'll simply try to hit you with her spike repeatedly, which will pass harmlessly over your head. Just keep at it and she'll go down in no time. STAGE 8 What are Marine Hizacks doing in the desert? Oh well, just defeat Blutarch at the end as you did before. STAGE 9 The Psycho suddenly attacks Hong Kong. Two of the Psychos attacks, the splatter gun and the big laser, can be dodged by walking up in front of it and ducking (go ahead and slash while you're at it). Once you defeat her, the screen will shift to allow you to attack Hizack Marines as they pour in. Just keep knocking them out of the sky until Four reemerges. From here attack her again just as before. STAGE 10 You're back in space and now have full movement abilities. Thus the original release of this guide (Version 1.0, posted 05/24/01) was posted as partially complete and featuring only the first game (Zenpen). My disappointment in the game, however, led me not to pursue that and this guide was disregarded. Recently, however, I have been going through my old guides and trying to bring up their overall quality (quantity isn't everything, afterall) and this one has been a glaring mark on my contributions to GameFAQs. Thus this new update (Version 2.0, posted 11/05/2005) reorganizes the guide and attempts to finalize it as a walkthrough for only the Zenpen game. This will probably be the final update on this guide, although who knows what the future may hold...
