Each craft is named, the description from the game given, the crafts colours, the statistics from the game given, and then an analysis of its advantages and disadvantages follows. This should not be used as a be-all end-all for what craft to use, but rather as a guide for which craft suits you best. At the end a glossary of the terms used in the guide is given. If you find that you have more to say about a craft than I have said or that I used a term that I didn't define (or spelling errors), please email me at zomgwtflol@gmail.com with the subject "Wipeout PSP FAQ". As new crafts are released for this game via downloadable content I will update this guide. a) Updates 05/4/25 - v1.00 - Basic guide done. 05/5/18 - v1.10 - Tigron ship added, Livery mode added to unlockables, airbrake and sideshift added to terms. ================================================================================ 2) Craft-related unlockables: To unlock the Zone craft, complete the four Zone mode tracks with gold medals. To unlock the Midievil craft, get 70 gold medals in the progress screen. The Tigron craft is the first of the Gamma Pack which can be downloaded from the official WipEout Pure website (http://www.wipeoutpure.com) and through your PSP if you have a wireless connection. Livery Mode is an alternate skin for the first 8 crafts (a to h). It changes the way the craft is coloured (pictures are on http://www.wipeoutpure.com) but the craft does not perform any differently. ================================================================================ 3) The crafts: a) Feisar: "You know where you are with a Feisar and this year is no exception. The new beast is a typical benchmark combination of agility and reliability." Colours - Blue/Yellow Speed ** Handling ***** Shield *** Thrust **** Advantages: The high handling and thrust scores mean that this craft is able to take corners very well. The airbrake does not need to be used as much as with other craft due to its excellent handling, which means that your speed won't change as much through the turn as with other crafts. This craft is good for a beginner to use as it is very forgiving when hitting walls, but that does not mean that advanced players should not use it as in the right hands the extra handling can be used to make very high speed turns. Disadvantages: This craft goes fairly slow (it's one of two with a 2 in speed) so on straight sections the others will catch up. Other than that it's a solid machine. b) Auricom: "Once again Auricom brings trouble to the track and commands authority with this durable and intimidating iteration." Colours - Dark Blue/Red Speed **** Handling *** Shield **** Thrust ** Advantages: This craft has a good rating in speed so on straightaways you can go fast. The good shield stat means that you can take extra hits and do more barrel rolls without needing to use a weapon to recover. This craft goes faster but turns worse, so it's good with those who can control it and have some experience not hitting the walls. It's not a high-end speed machine so you don't have to be an expert to use this car. Disadvantages: Because it has only a 2 in thrust, it will not get its speed back from corners as quickly. Also it won't get its speed back quickly from hitting walls so be a little more careful when using this craft. Since its handling is average, it'll lose a little more speed on turns than the Zone or Feisar which is a problem since it has a lower thrust rating. c) Qirex: "Qirex presents a clever combination of elegance, speed and balance resulting in an exhilarating performance every time it takes to the track." Colours - Purple/Magenta Speed *** Handling *** Shield **** Thrust *** Advantages: This craft is a very balanced craft. With the extra shield you can do more barrel rolls and get hit more without losing a weapon, and you go at a decent speed, the craft turns decently, leaving turns is average. So if you can't use the really fast crafts but need more speed than the good handling crafts then this is the one for you. Disadvantages: While this craft is decent, it doesn't excel anywhere other than shield power. So you won't go really fast and you won't handle amazingly well. d) AG Systems: "This year AG-Systems brings a very sharp and responsive machine with speed where it counts. AG-Systems always delivers the goods." Colours - Red Speed ** Handling **** Shield ** Thrust ***** Advantages: This craft is similar to the Feisar craft, but it has worse handling but better thrust. It's also very good at turns: it loses a bit more speed on them due to its lower handling but gets it back faster thanks to its higher thrust. It can keep fairly good speed on turns although it's strength comes more from its very high thrust. This is another good choice for beginners learning to turn, and for advanced players who like a constant speed throughout the entire race. Disadvantages: The lower shield rating means that you can't take as many hits, and that you can't do as many barrel rolls without wanting to use a weapon to regenerate shields. It has the lowest speed of the bunch (except for Feisar) and that can show on straightaways as others can pass fairly easily, although with good driving skills and a few good weapons you can shove a bomb or some mines into their face. e) Piranha: "Raw power with matching aesthetics and a reputation to maintain, the new Piranha is a thrilling, blur inducing ride... Prepare to see a lot of the tailfin." Colours - Red/Yellow Speed ***** Handling ** Shield *** Thrust ** Advantages: This craft is fast. Very fast. It is very good at going fast. It has a decent shield stat so you don't need to worry about it exploding in the middle of nowhere, and you can still do some barrel rolls and not worry about recycling weapons. If you are an expert at driving the car you can take turns and still maintain most of your speed. Recommended for advanced players only. Disadvantages: This car has poor handling and poor thrust. This means that hitting the wall is a very bad idea because you take a while to regain that speed and also that it's a lot easier to hit the wall. This is a combination that doesn't bode well for those without the skills to handle it. f) Assegai: "Confidence is high in the Assegai hanger as their new baby pounces onto the track with an awesome blend of agility and power." Colours - Blue/Dark Yellow Speed *** Handling *** Shield *** Thrust **** Advantages: This craft is like the Qirex in that it's very balanced. Instead of an extra point in shield it has it in thrust: it gets out of turns slightly better than the Qirex, but can't take as many weapons as the Qirex. It has no special advantage other than the fact that it's balanced. It's a good solid choice for anyone. Disadvantages: Because this craft is average in all areas, it doesn't have any disadvantage other than the fact that it is only average in all areas excluding thrust. g) Triakis: "To the power of three. Newcomer Triakis muscles onto the AG scene with this robust and menacing pitch fork of a machine... Keep your eyes on these boys." Colours - Grey/Light Grey Speed **** Handling ** Shield ***** Thrust ** Advantages: This craft is like the Auricom. It has slightly worse handling and a slightly better shield stat. This craft has the difficulties of the Piranha ship: it can't take turns unless you are a good driver, but it also has a much better shield stat than the Piranha. If you find that you're getting killed with the Piranha or that you need to absorb too many weapons to stay alive this is a good choice. With this craft you don't need to worry about the shield unless you get hit with a Plasma shot. Recommended for more experienced players, although the extra shield is also good if you're having trouble surviving with the Auricom. Disadvantages: This craft has poor handling. This means that you won't keep speed in turns well and that you can hit walls much easier unless you are a good driver. Not recommended for beginners. h) Harimau: "The Harimau is turning heads on its maiden voyage. This southpaw rookie is making some dangerous waves for the orthodox veterans." Colours – Orange Speed *** Handling **** Shield ** Thrust *** Advantages: This craft has good handling and average thrust, so turns are easier and you maintain a more even speed through them. The speed is decent so you don't have to worry about the straightaways as much. Like the Qirex and the Assegai this is a very balanced craft. It is a solid choice for many players new and old alike. Disadvantages: The low shield stat means that you'll need to use more weapons to regenerate your shield integrity and that you might not be able to use as many barrel rolls without worrying about your health. Also, since this craft is another balanced craft it runs into the problem from a lack of specialization. i) Zone: "The zone ship excels in almost every area." Colours – Grey/Grey Speed ***** Handling ***** Shield * Thrust **** Advantages: The Zone ship is a special ship that you can unlock (see section 2). It is an excellent ship with almost everything you want: speed and good turning. Because of this it is a good choice for beginners and advanced players. Disadvantages: The bottomed out shield stat means that you take very few hits. Be careful with your barrel rolls, and be ready to junk a good weapon just to stay alive. Hitting the wall can really hurt you so watch out. j) Midievil: "Proof that AG racing is rising from its grave, is when the undead themselves want a piece of the action. It's time to get Midievil." Colours – Dark Blue/Dark Grey Speed **** Handling **** Shield * Thrust ***** Advantages: This ship is similar to the Zone ship, and it also has to be unlocked (see section 2). It has better thrust and worse speed and handling. It is another excellent ship with almost everything you want. This craft handles good and is fast and accelerates very quickly. Losing speed isn't a problem so hitting walls slightly won't hurt your speed very much. Recommended for everyone. Disadvantages: Because it loses some speed and handling for the thrust boost, it requires a better line through turns to do better than the Zone ship. The low shield stat means that you had better watch out or you could die in the middle of nowhere without realising it. k) Tigron: "The last heavyweight to come from the Tigron assembly line is brought out of retirement for a second stab at the championship." Colours - Blue/Yellow Speed **** Handling *** Shield ***** Thrust *** Advantages: This craft is similar to the various all-around crafts, but it exceeds them in its stats. It has excellent shield so you can take more hits, its average handling and thrust means that it will perform decently in turns, and the above average speed means you can catch up easier. Disadvantages: It barely turns decently so it helps to know a few tricks to make your turns better, although it is not necessary. Recommended for everyone. ================================================================================ 4) Definition of terms: Speed – This is the top speed of your craft. The higher this number is the faster your craft can go when going as fast as possible. Handling – This is how well your craft handles. The higher this number is the sharper you can make turns without needing to use the airbrakes. Shield – This is how stronger your craft's shields are. The higher this number is the less damage you take from weapons and barrel rolls. Thrust – This is how fast your craft can accelerate. The higher this number is the faster your craft will get to top speed. Barrel Roll – This is a move that is used off of high jumps to increase your speed when you land. To do it press either Left Right Left or Right Left Right. It's usually easier to use the d-pad for this move. This move takes off somewhere between 5% and 10% of your shield depending on your shield stat. It gives about as much of a boost as using a Boost pickup. Sideshift - This is a move to move your craft a small bit either left or right. Depending on your control settings, it is either tapping an airbrake twice quickly (dual airbrakes) or hitting the appropriate button and a direction (single airbrake). Airbrake - Using the airbrake slows your ship down and allows you to make sharper turns. This can help in some tight turns. Using both airbrakes (not possible in single airbrake controls) slows you down faster than just letting go of the accelerator. It will even slow you down as you hold the accelerator! ================================================================================ 5) Legal: Copyright 2005 Andy Salisbury This may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
