INTRODUCTION =============================================================================== Queen's Blade - Spiral Chaos is a PSP game released on December 17, 2009, only in Japan. It's a strategy RPG made by Banpresto of Super Robot Wars fame. It follows the adventures of Cute and Jean through the world of the Queen's Blade anime, where you'll have the chance to meet and fight side-by-side with various girls from the franchise. Originally, Queen's Blade was a series of Combat Books. They're those books that explain an adventure and the system of a tabletop RPG. Sorta like Dungeons & Dragons and Vampire. It was later turned into an anime. Following the airing of the second season of the Queen's Blade anime, the game was released shortly after. Inevitable comparisons with SRW shall occur, but you'll see there are quite a lot of differences. I made a translation effort for those that can't read japanese. Search for the "Translations" section. =============================================================================== 2. GAME SYSTEM [GAME00] =============================================================================== Hit Points (HP) -------------------- Overall health of an unit. When it reaches 0, that unit suffers a Knockdown and is retired from battle. Attack Points (AP) --------------------- AP is a statistic that works like EN or Stamina. It determines the number of attacks you can string together in a single combo. When an unit does not have AP left, it can't either attack or counterattack the enemy. At every turn, a set quantity of 60 AP is recovered. Skill Points (SP) --------------------- The same as MP on most RPGs. You use skills through SP. Morale/Fighting Will --------------------- It's like a super move bar in fighting games. When an unit attacks or is attacked, its morale will fill up, from the minimum of 0% to the maximum of 100%. Morale is indicated on the stat screen as a percentage in the first page, to the right of the RED kanji. In the battle animation screen, it is indicated by a pink bar at both sides of the screen. Each side corresponds to an unit presently in that battle. The more morale an unit has, the more damage it does, and the less it receives. Morale is awarded by attacking, knocking an opponent down or by receiving damage. Receiving damage is the faster way to fill the morale bar/percentage, just like most fighting games. Morale also unlocks the character's Final Attack once it reaches 100%. Final Attacks are obtained once you reach a certain amount of strength, that would be normally reached some levels after Level 18, given normal circumstances (like, not popping every bonus point on Attack). On the attack list for each character (section Characters), you can see an estimate of when you'll get each character's Final Attack. Experience --------------------- You gain experience by participating in fights, or by defeating enemies. Each level up costs exactly 100 experience points. Since that would be pretty broken on a normal system, they decided to adopt a level-difference based experience system. Your gained experience is decided in a formula based on the difference between enemy level and your level. If you fight or defeat an enemy with a level higher than yours, you gain a multiplier, where if you are higher leveled than the enemy, you gain less. The least experience you can get is 1, it does not matter how many levels below yours the enemy is. This system also works in the same way, in case you heal/repair your own ally. The differences here are that the least experience you can gain is 10, not 1, whereas the experience gained by healing/repairing a higher leveled ally is not multiplied, but just added to 10. So, if you heal an ally that is 3 or 4 levels above you, the gain is approximately 15 EXP. Bonus Points --------------------- Bonus Points are awarded to an unit that completes a stage alive, and has gained at least 1 level while in battle. Each level gives 3 bonus points to distribute freely between the stats you desire, after the battle is over. Units that gained a level and were defeated in that battle won't get any bonus points. These points won't appear in the end of the next stage either, they're lost forever. Keep that in mind. Body Parts/Clothes --------------------- In Queen's Blade, characters have two types of health indicators: life and body part health. Life is the common HP system you have on almost any RPG. When it reaches 0, the character is KOd and removed from battle. Body parts are a different system. Each girl on the game has 5 body parts that can be targeted: head, chest, arms, waist and legs. Each part has its own HP, which is indicated in the status screen, and everytime when you receive an attack. An attack will usually hit two body parts at once, or even more. When you select an attack, you'll see on the enemy's figurine, that the parts are marked on three colors: Red: main target of the attack, receives the most damage. Pink: collateral target of the attack, receives less damage. White: not a target of the attack, receives no damage. You must have noticed, but only GIRLS have the body part system. Any males or genderless monsters do not have body parts to be crushed. All damage will be dealt directly to their HP, indicated by two crossed swords. Crush ---------------- Depleting a given body part to 0 HP will result in a "CRUSH", destroying any armor or clothing covering that body part, and dropping the overall defense rating of the character by a set percentage. Bonus Attack ----------------- First of all, you can only see Bonus Attacks if you turn Animations ON before a battle, and leave Attack Chance as ON in System. The default is ON, so no problems there. With that out of the way, a Bonus Attack is a chance for an extra attack. You obtain this chance by crushing any body part of the enemy. The word "CRUSH" appears on-screen, and you get a prompt to press a direction. Pressing on any direction (or the R/L buttons, although only later in the game you see those) will make your character do a Bonus Attack to the enemy. This attack only damages body part HP, it will never target enemy HP directly. The d-pad prompt will usually try to target the body parts on that zone of the enemy. Press UP and you'll most likely target the chest and head, DOWN will target waist and legs, etc. But not all characters can target all body parts, so it's more accurate to say that the directions correspond to your character's ATTACKS, not where they're aiming. Two good examples are Jean, who can only press RIGHT, because he only has one attack, and Tomoe, whose DOWN prompt won't target the enemy's legs, because she has no attack to target the leg area on the beginning of the game. Bonus Attacks are useful when you want to make a chain of Crushes, and are the best way to achieve that Perfect Knockdown, since Bonus Attacks do not damage HP. A final note on Crush is that everytime you Crush an enemy body part, you recover some of your AP. This comes in handy if you're being attacked by many parties at once, because otherwise your AP would deplete completely because of that many counterattacks. Perfect Knockdown ------------------- When all body parts are crushed before the unit's life (HP) is completely depleted, or when both happen at the same time, you achieve a condition called Perfect Knockdown. A Perfect Knockdown renders the girl unable to fight any further, even if she still has HP left. A Perfect Knockdown has the same effects as a normal Knockdown. It removes the enemy from battle, but does not give any additional exp or money. I'm still researching if it gives you any additional items, but this was inconclusive at best. So, aside from a faster knockdown, it's just there for the effect of eye-candy. Of course, since this is Queen's Blade, once you achieve Perfect Knockdown, you'll see a full shot of the enemy with almost no clothes on. She'll also say a different losing quote before her normal losing quote. There are actually two Perfect Knockdown "poses" a girl can make. Pose 1: When every body part is at 0, but there is still HP left. Pose 2: When every body part is at 0, and HP is at 0 too. If you Knockdown a girl while tearing off just some of her clothes, there is only one pose. This system will come in handy several times during the game, but mostly in capturing monsters. Affinity System -------------------- There is a simple affinity system in the game, indicated by three icons. Press TRIANGLE on the map until you see the icons over the characters. Each character can be of only one of these types: Sword = Strength Moon = Beauty Flower = Gentle It's a rock-paper-scissors system that influences every action an unit does to another, be it ally or enemy. The system goes like this: Strength > Beauty > Gentle > Strength So, Strength beats Beauty, Beauty beats Gentle, and Gentle beats Strength. For examples of actions: Attack/Defense: Strength damages Beauty more than normal, while it damages Gentle less than normal, and it has no special effect on itself. Healing/Repair: if Gentle tries to heal Strength with an ability, it will heal more HP, and if it tries to heal Beauty, it will heal less HP. It's pretty simple, actually. Just think that when one beats the other, the victor always does MORE of everything to the loser. Everything. You can take even more advantage by adding up to your multiplier. You do this by filling your jewel slots with jewels of the same color as your affinity. The multiplier goes from 1.0x (0 jewels) to 1.4x (3 jewels). Negative Statuses -------------------- Curse - Depletes 10 SP at the start of every turn. Poison - Depletes 10% of your maximum HP at the start of every turn. Melt - Depletes 10% of each body part at the start of every turn. Paralyze - Cannot attack, defend or counterattack during one turn. Confuse - Cannot use skills or items. Lazy - Lowers your evasion. Tired - Your AP recovers only half of the normal amount at the start of every turn. Poison can't kill you. It leaves you with 1 HP. Same for Melt, it won't Crush a body part when it reaches 0. Monster System --------------------- Monsters are units that can be summoned into battle by Jean. They act just like your characters, having unique skills and attacks. They can equip items and everything else. What separates them from your characters is that they must be summoned into battle by Jean. To capture a monster, you must achieve a Perfect Knockdown on a capturable monster with Jean, and only Jean. A capturable monster has a "talkative" symbol over its head, which is three orange lines. When you do a Perfect Knockdown on said monster, she will say something and will be added to your roster. This monster will start at the same level Jean was when he captured it. So if Jean was Level 30 when he captured a monster, the monster starts on your party at Level 30. It doesn't matter which level the monster had when it was an enemy. To summon a monster into battle, use Jean's second skill, that costs 35 SP. Only up to three monsters can be summoned at any given map at once, and each summon costs 1 turn to Jean. You can only capture 1 of each type of monster. The capturable monsters are also only of three races: Spider, Harpy and Horned Demon. In each of these three races, there are three types, making that 9 kinds of capturable monsters in total. The monsters of the same type are in no way stronger than each other, they just have different sets of skills, affinities and different status allocation. Passion Acts ------------------ A Passion Act is a buff/debuff that happens randomly at the start of each turn, for a girl who had one or more of her body parts crushed. The more body parts crushed, the bigger the chance a Passion Act will be activated. There are always 2 Passion Acts. One is positive and the other is negative. In the stat screen, the negative is the left one and the positive the right one. The positive act will happen when a pink ball emerges from the girl and goes to the sky. This will give her a buff or a skill for one turn. The negative act will happen when the girl blushes, the screen flashes pink for a second, and then the same pink ball emerges to the sky. This will give her a debuff or a negative skill for one turn. You cannot choose which one you are going to get. Both the activation and the choice between positive and negative acts are random. Relationship System ---------------------- Relationship shows the interaction between two units, and how they can help each other out. It works like this. When you select a character, you'll see icons in the top of other characters' heads. Those are the levels of relationship those characters have with your character. They rule what support actions will be available once the characters are adjacent to each other. However, relationships start at zero, with rare exceptions. To make the icons appear, you must first make the two characters interact with each other in some way, either during battle or doing other activities. There are 3 relationship levels: Level 1 = Sword inside a speech bubble. Level 2 = Sword and Shield inside a speech bubble. Level 3 = Love. Heart inside a speech bubble. Only between Jean and Females. There are some actions that will increase relationship between two given characters, when done properly. They are: - Duel with another character in the intermission. - Free Talk to any of the girls with Jean. - If you already have Level 1 (support attack), have that character support attack you. The same for Level 2 (support defense). - Heal or Repair another character. This will take quite some time to build a relationship, but it can be done pretty much anywhere. The relationship is also depicted in a two-way mode. Say, Leina can have a Level 1 relationship towards Tomoe, but Tomoe may have a Level 2 relationship towards Leina. It's very easy for this to happen, because almost every action gives different relationship bonuses to each character. It's pretty simple, actually. When a character does an action towards another, the affection of the character who was helped will grow more towards his/her helper. I'll show an example for easier understanding: let's say Irma is always being healed by Jean. After some time, she'll get a sword icon (Level 1) over her head, but Jean will have nothing over his, because his affection for Irma didn't grow much yet. So, if you make Irma support attack Jean on his actions, eventually after some supports Jean's affection towards Irma will grow, and he'll have a sword icon over his head too. Lastly, there's Level 3 (Love). This only happens between Jean and females, and besides unlocking a secret option, it does the same as Level 2. The affection system can be quantified like this: (This was taken from the wiki and translated by zblazer of the GameFAQs boards) Sword Icon = 150 points Sword & Shield Icon = 450 points Heart Icon = 750 points SPARRING You Win: Opponent towards your character = 15~20 Your characters towards opponent = 13 You Lose: Opponent towards you = 10 You towards opponent = 8 FREE TALK Free Talk = 50 Sometimes after talking, the message "Love is Felt" appears. When it does, you gain a 25, 75, or 100 point bonus. SUPPORT Ally adjacent to another ally who has defeated an enemy = 2 Support Attack: 3 to both characters Support Defense Defender towards defended = 4 Defended towards defender = 3 HEALING/REPAIRING Healer towards healed = 3 Healed towards healer = 2 Using skills/items on other = unconfirmed. Support Attack/Defense ----------------------- With affection from relationships, you get support commands from other characters. Like explained above, a Sword means Support Attack and a Shield means Support Defense. The characters must be adjacent to each other, and for Support Attack, both characters must have the enemy within range. It does not matter if the supporting character used his/her turn already, the support still activates. The love icon (Level 3) covers for both. Movement Types ----------------------- Movement Types influence character interaction with certain terrain. There are 6 types in Queen's Blade: Flying Fighter = has no problem in most kinds of terrain. Cute and Leina are of this type. Normal = their movement range is cut in half on any bad terrain. Most of your units are of this type. Bad terrain include desert, rock or any hazardous terrain. Elf = movement in grass is greatly increased. Movement in bad terrain is still somewhat hindered. Nowa is an example. Dwarf = movement in rocky areas is better than Normal and Elf units. Ymir is an example. Demon = most monsters, Dora and Lamica are of this kind. I don't know what this does. I think it makes traversing hazardous terrain and swamps faster. Flight = has no problem in any kind of terrain, and isn't damaged by any hazardous terrain, like lava or swamp. Only Airi, Nanael and Harpy monsters are of this type. I've put the price of the items so you can quickly relate to which items they pertain, since I can't write this guide in SHIFT-JIS just for this section. You can also use the figures like "15% HP" or "30% SP" to quickly figure which item is which. Lastly, they are in the same order as if you got 1 of each item. If you have better translations than these below, please submit them. No Google Translations, please. CONSUMABLES ------------------ Recovery Medicine: Recovers 15% HP. I tried to make a list of capturable monsters on all routes, but it was only when I got near the ending that I understood you can only capture 1 of each type of monster. When you capture a monster, even the symbol that marks a capturable monster disappears. So, I only got some of them. You may find capturable monsters in other stages. This guide only covers the first instance where a monster may be captured. The "Free Stage" part lists the monsters available to fight between missions. Since I didn't think putting "Intermission" between missions was a good idea, I put the Free Stage list after its corresponding stage. So, the Free Stage list after Chapter 1 lists the monsters you can fight in the Free Stage option between Chapters 1 and 2. About the monster nomenclature: Spider = purple spider girl Spider Princess = red spider girl Spider Demon = green spider girl Horned Demon = horned girl with green clothes Dinos(aur) = horned girl with red hair Tyrano(saur)= horned girl with red clothes, blonde hair Harpy = green and pinky harpy High Harpy = dark yellow harpy Wild Harpy = purple and red, pale-skinned harpy Lastly, Nowa and one of the horned demons have the ability to detect secret treasures hidden in the ground. It's their first ability (uses 5 SP). All these treasures are small amounts of money, though. No secret items. =============================================================================== New Game =============================================================================== When you start a new game, you'll be asked to input the name of the 2 lead characters. If you'd like to use roman characters, select the 3rd option in the left menu. The girl's name is Cute, and the guy's name is Jean. =============================================================================== Chapter 1 [CHA01] =============================================================================== Victory: Reach the marked area (the bridge) Loss: Cute is defeated Jean is defeated Initial Enemies: Bandit Lv 2 x 3 After the initial dialogue, some enemies appear. Jean will ask you a question, if you want to see the tutorial or not. 1. See the tutorial 2. No tutorial If you choose to see the tutorial, he will ask another question when the tutorial is over. Cute will answer: 1. I understand 2. What again? Choose accordingly. You gain nothing by watching the tutorial, so I suggest skipping it. After reaching the bridge, defeating all enemies or prolonging the fight until Turn 3, Leina appears and the conditions change. Leina is a level 4 NPC, you can't control her. The enemies are 1 level above you, but they should pose no problem to Cute's attacks. Jean must heal her when needed. Reinforcements 1 (Leina appears): Bandit Lv 2 x 2 Reinforcements 2 (Tomoe appears): Gel Lv 2 x 2 Ogre Lv 2 Victory: All enemies defeated Loss: Cute is defeated Jean is defeated After defeating all enemies or prolonging the fight even more, Tomoe will appear to the north of the bridge, with 3 enemies near her. She is a level 4 NPC, just like Leina. Let Tomoe deal with her enemies and you're good to go. You can't reach the other side of the bridge very fast if you weren't already on it, anyway. ----------------- Free Stage ----------------- Gel Lv 1 Ogre Lv 1 Bandit Lv 1 x 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- !!!!!!!!!!!! EXPLANATION !!!!!!!!!!!!! About Intermission. In the Intermission, use Communication whenever available. Just to remember, the options are: 1) Party Members 2) Shop - Buy items - Sell items - Upgrade weapons and armor 3) Item - Equip Items - Use status boosters - Equip Jewels 4) Communication - Sparring - Free Talk 5) System 6) Data - Save - Load Some of these options aren't initially available, like Sell Items (you have to buy or unequip something first), Use status boosters and Equip Jewels (you must get one first). Sparring is a training to build up relationship between characters. It is important to get more support actions to appear. In the first sparring session, the characters already get Support Attack. After more sessions, the characters will get Support Defend. Free Talk is exclusive to Jean. You choose one of the girls to talk with Jean. This increases relationship between Jean and that character, just like the Sparring option, but this seems to work faster - alas, since Jean isn't suitable for combat, this is the best option for him, at least right now. Poor developers could never conceive Jean's true power. Anyway, each time you talk to a girl, you get one star, with the maximum being 7 stars. Once you reach this limit, the character will have a "Complete" above them and Jean can't talk to them anymore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== Chapter 2 [CHA02] =============================================================================== Victory: All enemies defeated Loss: All allies defeated Initial Enemies: Gel Lv 2 x 2 Green Gel Lv 2 Bandit Lv 3 x 3 Reinforcements 1( 4 enemies defeated): Lamica Lv 4 (item: Carnelian jewel) Harpy Lv 4 x 2 (1 capturable) In this stage, you'll see the first boss enemy of the game, the demon Lamica. She comes with two Harpies, one of which is capturable. This harpy has three orange lines over her head. If you did read the Game System section first, then you know how to capture one. Don't forget to heal the Harpy when necessary and that this Harpy can be the last enemy alive. Contrarily to SRW, the grunts don't all run away when you defeat the boss. Chest: Fighter Mantle ----------------- Free Stage ----------------- Gel Lv 1 Ogre Lv 1 Bandit Lv 1 x 3 =============================================================================== Chapter 3 [CHA03] =============================================================================== Victory: All enemies defeated Loss: Leina defeated Initial Enemies: Elina Lv 5 Vance Guard Lv 4 x 4 Gel Lv 4 x 2 Roper Lv 4 x 2 Notice that the Ropers have a greater range than all enemies. They can hit up to three spaces away, while most enemies only hit up to two spaces. After Elina is defeated, she will challenge Leina to a Queen's Duel. This will happen throughout the game quite a few times. Sometimes you can actually lose the duel, there won't be a Game Over, even if the Clear Conditions say otherwise. From some reports, this looks like one of the duels where you can lose, and the game will continue normally. Victory: Queen's Duel won Loss: Queen's Duel lost Your HP, AP and SP are all recovered for this battle, so don't worry about healing first. ----------------- Free Stage ----------------- Gel Lv 2 Roper Lv 2 Vance Guard Lv 2 Vance Guard Lv 4 Vance Guard Lv 6 =============================================================================== Chapter 4 [CHA04] =============================================================================== Victory: Elina defeated Loss: Leina defeated Initial Enemies: Elina Lv 6 Vance Guard Lv 5 x 4 Harpy Lv 5 Reinforcements 1 (4 enemies defeated): Vance Guard Lv 5 x 3 Harpy Lv 5 Chests: Left: 2000 money Right: Poison Guard - Trap: Gel Lv 5 x 2 Green Gel Lv 5 This is the first chapter where there is a trap if you open one of the chests. The trap calls some monsters, that you most likely don't want to fight with only one character. It will be quite a bother after some time - almost every time there's a chest, there's a trap too. So, from now on, try to open the chests with more than one character nearby, because opening one and finding a trap all alone can be suicide sometimes. After you defeat Elina, Claudette appears and challenges Leina to a Queen's Duel. You cannot control this one, Leina will always lose no matter what. Someone will distract all the troops and Leina and Tomoe will be taken away, each one to a direction. Now there's a route split: 1) Go after Leina (Leina Route) 2) Go after Tomoe (Tomoe Route) Each route has a different cutscene. Leina and Tomoe won't be available in the next Intermission. Now that neither Leina or Tomoe are available, the items of the character you didn't choose are automatically unequipped, so you may want to give some of them to Cute and Jean. The walkthrough will continue with one stage at a time - first Leina's chapter, then Tomoe's chapter. You can wait in formation until Dora and Lamica come, and when everyone is defeated, move and approach Claudette. She has some pretty good defense, so go in well prepared. After Claudette is defeated, she challenges Leina to a Queen's Duel. Victory: Queen's Duel won Loss: Queen's Duel lost This can be the first hard point of the game. What I usually do is: 1st turn Leina - use Leina's skill (do more damage) and attack Claudette 1st turn Claudette - Claudette will use her skill (defense up) and attack Leina Block her attack. 2nd turn Leina - just heal Leina. Claudette's skill is still active, so don't attack Claudette and finish your turn. 2nd turn Claudette - Claudette's skill will disappear and her defense goes back to normal. You can try to attack her or block and wait until next turn. 3rd turn Leina - finish Claudette off, or if you are not sure you'll defeat her, heal Leina again. It is a demon that copies the skills, attacks and appearance of a character, but it still pales in comparison to the real thing, mostly in the defense department. They start a little far and have to traverse some grass terrain, so you may want to wait until they can band together with the main group to take on Airi and Melona, but it's not really necessary. Victory: Nyx defeated Loss: All allies defeated Airi defeated If you prepared yourself with Nanael or a Harpy monster, go to Airi's side to heal her and deal with Nyx as soon as possible. It's possible to capture both monsters on this stage, but since you're on a limit, you can pass on this - both these monsters will appear on later stages. Although the Green Spider would be a pretty good monster to have now, because of her Paralyze Press. When Nyx is defeated, she will challenge one of your characters to a Queen's Duel match. Choose your best character, and note that Nyx is a Gentle type. A Beauty type is best to deal with her, like Nanael. Strangely, Jean can accept the duel, even though men can't fight in Queen's Blade. Victory: Queen's Duel won Loss: Queen's Duel lost Try to defeat Nyx as fast as possible, because she can cast Inferno, which doubles her damage, and she's already pretty strong to boot. I advise against spreading your forces. Keep everyone in the middle and fight the enemies as they come. Don't worry about Dora for now, she only starts moving at turn 7, from my experience. The problem here is that most of the enemies are Gentle type, and you only have Nanael and Melpha as Beauty types. Also, the Ogres are pretty strong, so fighting them with Airi or a monster may have dire consequences. Try to make good use of Airi's Invisible spell, which makes her dodge all attacks for 1 turn. Try to use it against Dora, it helps a lot. WALKTHROUGH END. =============================================================================== ROUTES [ROUT00] =============================================================================== I'll try to explain here what are the differences in the game by taking the different routes. There are 3 points in the game where a route split happens: Stage 4, Stage 11 and Stage 22. Each route taken influences later stages in a different way. More importantly, it decides who Jean gives a costume to, and which ending you'll get. It goes like this. The first two route splits determine which costume you get, and the sum of all three determine the ending. The characters you get during the routes may depend on a route you took earlier, but I'll explain that later. Just concentrate on costumes and endings for now. Costumes ------------- Tomoe Route > Dragon Route Costume: Ymir Tomoe Route > Nyx Route Costume: Nanael Leina Route > Dragon Route Costume: Leina Leina Route > Nyx Route Costume: Leina Endings ------------- Tomoe Route > Dragon Route > Underworld Route = Ymir Ending Tomoe Route > Dragon Route > Earth Route = Ymir Ending Tomoe Route > Nyx Route > Underworld Route = Nanael Ending Tomoe Route > Nyx Route > Earth Route = Nanael Ending Leina Route > Dragon Route > Underworld Route = Ymir Ending Leina Route > Dragon Route > Earth Route = Leina Ending Leina Route > Nyx Route > Underworld Route = Nanael Ending Leina Route > Nyx Route > Earth Route = Leina Ending Characters ------------ These characters will appear on Chapter 23 of whatever route you chose last. It's pretty simple, actually. Note that to keep Airi, you must have a good relationship with her before she betrays you in Chapter 24. This means 250 affection points or more. The other two, Elina and Irma, don't need any relationship to be kept in your party until the end of the game. I didn't every factor in Irma's allegiance, but I'm sure about Elina. Nyx Route: - Airi always appears on Nyx Route. She departs from the group when both groups rejoin. Dragon Route: - Irma always appears on Dragon Route. She departs from the group when both groups rejoin. Underworld Route: - Irma: only appears in this route if you chose Dragon Route as your second route split. If you didn't, she'll have a last fight with Leina when both groups join, and leave your party for good. - Airi: always appears on Underworld, since she's your guide. If you didn't have a good relationship with her, she leaves your party for good after Chapter 24. Again, AFTER the chapter. She'll always betray you during the chapter, even if you have a good relationship with her. The group only decides if they are going to keep her in after the Chapter. - Elina: always joins you if select Underworld. You don't need any relationship with her to keep her until the end of the game in your party. Earth Route: - Irma: only appears in this route if you chose Dragon Route as your second route split. If you didn't, she'll have a last fight with Leina when both groups join, and leave your party for good. - Airi and Elina do not appear on this route at all. If you get through this route, they will never join. Elina has a conversation with Leina when both groups join, but Leina won't let Elina join you. Remember the most important thing: to keep Irma until the ending, select Dragon Route as your second route split. =============================================================================== FAQ [FAQ00] =============================================================================== WARNING: There are some spoilers below. 1) What is this game? A. It's a Strategy RPG. 2) Do I need to know the story of Queen's Blade to play this? A. Not at all. This game runs parallel to the anime. 3) Which characters from the anime are playable? A. Leina, Tomoe, Irma, Nowa, Elina, Airi, Melpha, Nanael, Ymir, Cattleya. 4) Which characters only appear as enemies? A. Claudette, Menace, Melona, Nyx and the final boss. 5) Aren't Shizuka and Risty playable? They appear during Stage 4. A. No, they aren't. Shizuka, Risty, Alleyne, Aldra and Echidna only appear during cutscenes, they are not playable at all. Shizuka and Risty have map sprites, but that's it. 6) Isn't Queen's Blade based on a series of combat books? A. Yes, that's the source material. However, this game uses the background story and characterizations of the anime. 7) If I already watched the anime, will there be anything new in this game? A. Yes. The story is told from Cute and Jean's point of view, using the Queen's Blade tournament only as background. The main story presented in the game isn't about the tournament. 8) How many stages? A. On a playthrough, there are 31 stages. But since there are route splits and secret stages, there are actually: 28 route-exclusive stages 16 shared stages 3 ending stages 2 secret stages Totalizing, 49 stages. 9) When do route splits happen? A. The first one is in the end of Chapter 4. The second one in the end of Chapter 11. The third one in the end of chapter 22. 10) How do I get the 4th image of page 4 in Illustration? A. You must take the Underworld Route and make Airi follow you instead of betray you. For this, you must build a relationship with her. From the wiki I got that she needs 250 affection points towards one of your characters. That's a little after you get the Sword icon. Note that she'll always betray you during Chapter 24, there is nothing you can do to stop her. However, after the battle is cleared, if your relationship is good enough, your people will forgive Airi and she'll rejoin your group. Then this image will appear. Remember: AFTER the stage. 11) Who is Cute's alter ego with the green hair? A. Michelle/Mishel. She not actually evil, as she helps the party almost all the time, but she's from the same kind as Sushel and Ranshel. 12) Your romanizations are all wrong! A. I guess not everyone likes these, but bear in mind that I tried to make them as accurate as possible in the sense that almost all Queen's Blade character names are not common japanese names, but are common in other countries. Yes, there are people called Melpha (actually it's a surname) and Alleyne out there. About Ranshel, Sushel and Mishel, I may be very wrong on them... Actually the right romanizations would be Ranchelle, Suchelle and Michelle. These are real names, but except for Michelle, the other two are weird even by japanese standards. Just like Nanael, I think Sushel and Ranshel are references to angels, but I didn't find any. 13) Why so many Doppelgangers? A. The game doesn't have many enemies, they had to extend it somehow... I suppose. 14) What are the other default names for Cute and Jean? A. Cute: Lulu, Lilna, Aina, Emily and Amy. Jean: Miro, Phil, Theo, Toma, Hibiki, Raiya and Shun. 15) You said the relationships carry over from the 3rd playthrough onwards, but when I started Stage 1, neither Leina nor Tomoe have any affection towards me! A. NPCs can't have a relationship with you. Leina and Tomoe are NPCs in Chapter 1. 16) I'm on my 3rd playthrough, and Irma appears at Level 10? A. Units that turn from enemy to ally or first appear as enemies won't have their level carried over at first. Only when that unit starts a stage as an ally, will that unit have its level carried over. However, the contrary does not hold true: if an ally suddenly turns into an enemy in the middle of battle, everything will carry over, even skills and items. You may find yourself in a tough spot because of this. But only Airi does this, as far as I remember. 17) What are the enemies' titles? A. Melona is Assassin of the Thousand Faces (Senpen no Shikaku) Menace is Ancient Princess (Kodai no Ojo). Dora is Witch (Mahoutsukai). Lamica is Vampire Princess (Kyuuketsu Hime). Nyx is Flame Sorceress (Honoo no Tsukaite). I think the final boss is Priestess of the Dragon (Ryuu no Fujo), but I'm not very sure on the kanji. The name of that chapter was Priestess of the Dragon, so I guess the kanji is just an alternate way of spelling Dragon. 18) Are Free Talks all different events? A. Only monsters have the same Free Talk events. If you talk to a Harpy and then to a Wild Harpy, the event is the same. 19) What's going on on Jean's Free Talks with his monsters? A. Harpies are quite talkative, but Jean doesn't pay much attention to them at first. Horned Demons are a little shy, but can be pretty abusive if Jean says something wrong. Jean likes talking to them. There's an weird thing going where the demon says "Ha Ha", like an animal battle cry, and Jean likes to imitate. Spiders are just your run-of-the-mill loli. Jean loves to provoke them, but they don't like his manneirisms. Poor Jean. 20) What can I do to make the game easier (a.k.a ruin the fun)? A. The "Press" skills (Melt, Tire, Poison, Paralyze, etc) have in their description: "For 2 turns, has a 30% chance to inflict the given status". If an attack has 16 hits and you have a 30% chance to Paralyze an enemy in EACH HIT, this is as broken as broken can get. Almost no boss in the whole game is immune to any of the bad statuses. You can just use Paralyze on the bosses over and over, cast Melt, or even all status together for a full-ownage that no enemy can escape from. It's fun to see the bosses crumble, but offers no challenge at all. By no means this detracts from the overall experience of the game, QB still got a pretty solid system and gameplay, but just how easy this system is to exploit still makes me raise an eyebrow everytime I remember it. This is not a rant, by the way. You use it if you want. 21) I failed to get Irma in Underworld, what now? A. It doesn't matter which final route split you choose. The second route split MUST be Dragon Route for Irma to appear in the final route split. 22) How can I... you know, abuse the level up system? A. Jean, Melpha, Cattleya and Ymir are the only ones who can do it consistently from what I experienced. Go to a Free Stage where there is hazardous terrain, like swamp, lava, spikes or whatever. Leave a character on that terrain and have the character you want to level up (Jean or Melpha only) use heal on that character every turn, while you leave at least one enemy alive so the stage doesn't end. You get 10 EXP for each heal. More if the character has a higher level than you. For Cattleya and Ymir, have a character stand in front of the last enemy and be attacked. Then just Repair that character on all turns, and Heal with another character. Like Heal, it gives a minimum of 10 EXP per action. To speed the process up, get the Lucky Coin on Chapter 21 (it's in the upper right chest) and equip it. That way, you gain 20 EXP instead of 10. 22) What of the other characters? A. There's not much you can do about them, sadly. After Level 40, there are NO enemies that give you more than 1 EXP, aside from the final Queen's Duel, and if you did get Chapters 32 and 33, you can level Cute up by fighting enemies on these stages, since they have the same level as her. 23) What are the final boss' magical attacks? A. Frozen Flame and Extreme Frozen Flame. 24) When a character does an auto-level up, do they use bonus points? A. No. You'll lose those points. 25) Is Jean supposed to be so weak compared to Cute? A. He's a support character... give the guy some slack. 26) Do the characters have any kind of hidden ability? A. There's no confirmation of this, but it seems Cattleya has a hidden damage multiplier, and Airi can sometimes survive fatal attacks with 1 HP left. 27) How do I use Final Attacks? A. 100 morale, final attack. You have to get them first. Most characters get them in the mid 20s. 28) Are the Mummy girls capturable? A. No. Only Harpies, Spiders and Horned Demons are capturable. 29) Can I select Party Members before a battle? A. It doesn't matter how many party members you have, they'll all be deployed in the start of the battle. Only monsters need to be summoned. 30) How do I soft reset? A. START + R + L. 31) What does Love do? A. You'll get that girl's three measures in her profile... nothing more. 32) What about the ones that never join you, like Claudette? A. Just Perfect Knockdown them. 33) How do I skip dialogue? A. R + Start. 34) What are the characters' "jobs"? A. This question came up somewhere, so I thought to include it here. Most of this is from the Queen's Blade anime. There is no place in-game that tells this. Leina is a Warrior. Tomoe is a Warrior Priestess. Cute is a Fighter. Jean is a Healer. Airi is a Ghost. Cattleya is a Blacksmith and a Dragon Slayer. Melpha is a Priestess. Nanael is an Angel. Melona is a Shapeshifter. Menace is a sort of a mix between a Martial Artist and a Wizard. Nyx is a Sorceress. Alleyne is a Battle Instructor. Nowa is a Ranger (sort of...) Claudette is a Knight. Elina is a Fighter. Echidna is a mercenary. Irma is an Assassin. Ymir is a Blacksmith. This is by no means official, it's just a little list to help with your understanding of the story. =============================================================================== CREDITS & CONTACT INFO [END00] =============================================================================== - To Banpresto, for making this game. - To the people on the GameFAQs boards, I learned a lot about this game from them. - For the people on Masterwiki who created a wiki for this game, which I took much of the information from: http://masterwiki.net/queensblade_sc/index.php You can contact me on corrections, info and other matters related to this game on mastermeioh@gmail.com.
