This will most likely be the last version I submit however I wont submit it as a final since I don't like making promises. v1.01- 8/15/02 Made minor changes to the format and added a TOC. I might make a complete overhaul to the guide layout sometime. v1.0- 8/14/02 First version everything is new. /---------------------\ A Word About Format \---------------------/ The format of this walkthrough is not mission based as some of the other FAQ's on this game are. Instead, I separate the game into chapters of a story. The chapter names are of my own creation and they reflect the theme of the current chapter. My reasons for doing this are mostly for FAQ originality, but I also don't consider this to be a traditional mech fighter. The story is immersive and so I decided to treat it that way. Play the game as if you were playing an RPG and don't think of it as a mission based game. Trust me you'll enjoy it more. /---------------------\ Table Of Contents \---------------------/ >>>Section 1: Game Basics >>Controls >>Menu Commands >>The Radar >>Special Moves >>Game Screen >>Field Objects >>>Section 2: Walkthrough >>An Unlikely Hero: Leo's first frame >>A Daunting Mission: After the first battle >>Illogical Actions: Leo Meets Celvice >>Command of the Skies: Leo must take out the microwave barrier >>Saving ADA: ADA is infected with a virus >>Completing Jehuty: Leo must destroy invisible enemies >>One Life to Live: The final battles >>>Section 3: Secrets and Miscellaneous >>Secrets >>Sub-Weapons >>Programs >>Gameshark Codes >>Cheats >>Versus Mode >>FAQ >>Contact Information >>Credits /---------------------\ Introduction \---------------------/ Welcome to my Zone of the Enders guide (referred to as ZOE herein). Let me tell you that I have made out like a bandit purchasing this game. First of all it was only $9 brand new when it was selling for $50 everywhere else. And then when I played it I was completely blown away by the game play. Pretty good for a $9 game eh? I was turned off from mech fighters with Armored Core 2 so I had originally passed this game up. In AC2 the controls were terrible and the customization was too complex for me. Not true in ZOE. The controls are easy and the lack of customization really adds to the fun factor contrary to the norm. My only beef with this game is the camera. As you move around the camera is fixed until you stop then it positions itself behind you. If would be a lot better if the camera just stayed behind you at all times. I also thought it was funny that the developers were using Metal Gear to push this title to success. First of all it comes with a demo for MGS2. Also, all over the packaging it says "From the makers of Metal Gear Solid". And to add icing to the cake, in the production credits, METAL GEAR SOLID is in parentheses whenever Hideo Kojima's name comes up. Talk about a lack of confidence on the developers side. Well enough of my rambling and on with the guide. =_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_= SECTION 1: GAME BASICS =_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_= /---------------------\ Controls \---------------------/ ---------------------------------------------------------------- L1- Cancels Lock on L2- Locks on Changes camera angle Change locked enemy Zooms out of radar map Zoom in to radar map R1- Guard R2- Activate dash when in motion Activate burst when stationary ---------------------------------------------------------------- Directional Buttons- Rotate through Sub Weapons Moves cursor in field selection ---------------------------------------------------------------- Select Button- No use Start Button- Opens Menu ---------------------------------------------------------------- Square- Use main weapon. Jehuty- The Jehuty is the name of the orbital frame model you are using. The camera always reverts itself behind you whenever you make a movement and then stand still Energy Gauge- Your energy gauge tells you how stable your orbital frame is. If it drops to zero its game over. This is located on the bottom left corner of your screen. Player Level- This number appears on the right hand side of your energy gauge. It displays your current level. As you beat more frames your level increases. Experience Gauge- This is located on the bottom left side of your energy gauge. It displays your experience for the current level. Fill it up and you advance on to the next level. Sub-Weapon Icon- Located on the bottom right hand of your screen it displays the equipped sub weapon and number of rounds. Target Marker- The red cross hairs that move about the screen. This shows you what direction your gun will be fired at. Lock-On Marker- The green cross hairs that appear after locking on to an enemy. All shots fired will head in the direction of these cross hairs. Party Marker- When a group of enemies are patrolling they are enclosed in a yellow box. There level and carried items is also displayed. When the party is close enough to be locked on the box will turn brown. Party Circle- Displays the direction and distance to a nearby enemy(ies). Survivor- Located on the upper right hand side of your screen, it displays in percentage how many enemies are alive. Squads- Located right above _survivor_ it displays how many remaining enemy parties exist. Enemy- Displays the number of enemies that are combat ready. /---------------------\ Field Objects \---------------------/ Item Box- Item boxes give you various things including metatron ores, which heal your frame, sub-weapons, and pass codes. Porter- Destroy these things to release the vector trap. You cannot lock on to them so you must fire your weapon manually. Local Server- An outlet to download programs from. These programs can do various things such as add options or give you sub weapons. In most cases you need a passcode to access them. =_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_= SECTION 2: WALKTHROUGH =_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_= /---------------------------\ Chapter 1: An Unlikely Hero \---------------------------/ After you pop in the game and select new game you will view an opening cut scene. The year is A.D. 2172. The setting is Jupiter space colony Antilla. The scene opens with a bunch of orbital frames converging on the space colony. After a conversation between Viola and the mission commander you learn that this is an invasion army and their objective is to destroy or capture 2 new gears. After the frames enter the colony the scene switches to a blue haired boy named Leo. Leo is running from the destruction caused by the invading orbital frames. A flashback then occurs where he and his friends get in trouble. After the flashback he see's his friends killed from a falling frame. Then a short sequence with Viola ensues. Does any of this sound familiar? The scene quickly turns back to Leo who is running from an assaulting frame. He makes his way into a hanger where he stumbles upon Jehuty, one of the new gears that Viola is after. Leaning on Jehuty, Leo falls in after part of the structure disappears. Leo without thinking climbs into the pilots chair and begins to operate Jehuty. A fight breaks out. Don't worry its not tough. Just get in close and press the SQUARE button. It will be destroyed in no time. /------------------------------\ Chapter 2: A Daunting Mission \------------------------------/ After your first battle you meet ADA. ADA is your onboard computer. She will aid you in your mission objectives by offering advice and directions. If you are unfamiliar with the controls now is your chance to get some practice with ADA's training simulator. Once your confident with the controls go straight and pick up the metatron ore. Afterwards follow the arrow that ADA has provided you. Once outside you must fight some more battles. This is a good time to test out your dash attack. Press and hold R2 along with the SQUARE button. Move around your enemy while in dash mode and attack. Your attacks become more powerful while doing this enabling you to kill your enemies faster. Don't bother with your energy gun since 90% of the hits will be blocked with their shield. After you take out the small fry, Viola comes to the scene. *+*+*+BOSS: Viola Difficulty: Very Easy Some people wouldn't consider this to be a boss fight since its so easy, but Ill include it as one anyway. Viola will fight you up close so I hope you perfected your dash attack technique. Shortly after the battle begins Viola will be surprised that your only a kid. Show her what your made of by pummeling her with dash attacks. After the battle she will feel humiliated and want revenge, but her mission commander tells her to retreat for now. A cut scene will follow the battle. Slash has arrived at sector 03 and Nightraid has reached his position at 05. The commander asks for a report from Viola, but she refuses, taking offense to the fact he knew how she was humiliated. The scene switches back to Leo. ADA informs Leo that everyone is dead. In response Leo's mental condition begins to fail. ADA then patches through a message from the Atlantis corporation. Elena informs Leo that Atlantis was suppose to transport Jehuty to Mars, but the frame runner Alan was MIA. Elena then asks Leo to do it for the sake of his people. Leo is at first reluctant not desiring to kill anyone. Still doest sound familiar? (*cough*xenogears*cough*). Leo eventually agrees to do it. After Elena cuts transmission ADA will begin to describe your mission objectives. Before leaving the Antilla colony you must first equip Jehuty with the necessary programs and drivers that are found in servers all over the colony. We will find our first two here. Follow the arrow ADA has provided to the first one. After obtaining the scouting module you must obtain a passcode for the next. There are several enemies in the vicinity now. One of them has the passcode. You can tell by the party marker. If it says passcode underneath it kill those enemies. Once you obtain pass_global find the next server. If you go into your menu it will be located on your radar map. Easy huh? After you find the server go into your menu and leave this area. /-----------------------------\ Chapter 3: Illogical Actions \-----------------------------/ Once you leave this area Leo will notice that his hometown is being attacked. Press the CIRCLE button once over Town 1. ADA regrets to inform Leo that there are no signs of life, but also that it is probable the people evacuated before the invasion. Leo then prays that his father is still alive. At that moment ADA detects one life form. Leo discovers it is Celvice, a friend of his. A cut-scene follows and Celvice explains that she is going to the church to make sure there are no children there. Leo then gets upset at her and tells her to evacuate. Before the argument can continue Leo soon has bigger fish to fry. *+*+*+BOSS: Tempest Difficulty: Easy Ok your first "real" boss. He's not so tough so don't worry about your lack of skills at this point. There is basically two parts to this fight. First off you have to destroy the top shell. Just lock and keep your distance while firing your energy gun. His shell will soon be destroyed. Afterwards he becomes more aggressive. Again keep your distance. Avoid his fireballs and when he jumps into the air, dash to the left and all of his attacks should miss. As soon as he lands perform a burst attack. Stay still and hold down R2. Then press the CIRCLE button to send a giant ball of energy towards him. This will deal a lot of damage. Repeat this a few times and he will be dead in no time. After the battle ADA will confirm the vital signs of the frame runner fleeing the scene. ADA then locks on the runner and instructs Leo to destroy the target. Leo refuses saying he will not kill those who are defenseless. ADA argues that his actions are illogical and tells him of the threat that he will return. But Leo does not care and lets the target go. A cut scene will follow. Celvice runs out of the church banged up a little. Leo goes to her and lets her on board. But before the two can have a proper reunion reinforcements arrive on the scene. It would be a good idea to eliminate all of the enemy frames, but there is only two groups of interest. One has a metatron ore and the other has the passcode pass_javelin. Once you have these locate the local server on your map and get the Javelin, your first sub-weapon. You can cycle through your sub-weapons by using the directional buttons. There is also another metatron ore in the area, pick it up if you need it. Were done here lets leave the area. ********************** Rescue Mission #1 ********************** Go to Town 2 before heading over to the factory. Like all rescue missions your objective is to eliminate all enemies in the area without destroying any part of the colony or killing any survivors. The only advice I can give is try to lure enemies away from houses and buildings. One of the enemies has a pass_phalanx. Get it and then take it over to the local server to get your new sub weapon. /-----------------------------------\ Chapter 4: The Command of the Skies \-----------------------------------/ Head over to the factory and fight the frames. Were looking for the pass_antilla. Once its in your possession take it to the local server and download the colony info. We have no more business here so go ahead and leave. ADA will tell you that in order to leave the colony you must disrupt the Microwave barrier that is giving the enemy air superiority. However you have received another distress call back at Town 1. You can skip it if you like, but I'd advise you to go ahead and do it. ********************** Rescue Mission #2 ********************** Same as before. Just kill all the enemies while reducing collateral damage. Head over to City 1. You can't miss it. There's a big beam of light coming from it. Enter and ADA will tell you to knock out the base of this beam of energy. However, the problem is the microwave barrier is preventing you from using energy weapons. You need something physical. You can destroy the enemies if you want, but you'll just have to fight them over again. Anyways leave and go to Town 2. Town 2 introduces you to the vector trap. There are purple things all over the place called porters. Porters bend space or whatever to hide items and you guessed it; it's hiding your sniper rifle. Might be a good idea to destroy the enemies first to make things easier. Once that's done go ahead and knock out those porters. I should also mention that those porters are too small to lock on so you'll have to aim manually. I found that using the phalanx to be helpful here since it scatters bullets all over the place which guarantees hits as long as your close to the porter. Once you destroy all the porters an item box will appear that has the sniper rifle in it. Get it and then leave. Head back to City 1 and use your sniper ammo to take out the base. The trick is to knock out the white dots that appear on the rotating base. Don't worry if your aim is not perfect. As long as your in the vicinity the white dots will be blown out. Once you destroy the base the backup generator will kick in, but you'll still have access to the enemy carrying pass_geyser and the local server. Now lets go to EPS 1. When you try to shoot out the satellite ADA will tell you that there is a back up generator that you need to destroy. Before you do take out the surrounding enemies and destroy the porters to get pass_halberd. Use that on the local server for a new sub-weapon. Once you get the halberd open the menu and look at your radar. Do you see the white arrows? This is a road that leads to an underground maintenance shaft. Go in there and go straight. Always straight. There will be an intersection, but you will not turn because you are still going straight. Once you reach the end go down below and destroy that generator and the microwave barrier for that satellite will be lifted. Now leave EPS 1. Your next destination is EPS 2. Do the same thing go to the underground maintenance shaft. However, this time you wont be able to go through due to a microwave barrier. Leave and fight the enemies with the passcode pass_control1. Now leave for Town 1. There are some tough cookies in Town 1. The enemies with the passcode pass_control2 have reinforced programs and their weapons do a lot of damage. The best strategy is once your locked on dash around them and once your behind the enemy do a burst attack. If you need it there is a metatron ore in the area. Now with both passcodes go back to EPS 1 and back in the maintenance shaft. Remember that intersection I told you about? Well this time take it and enter both codes into the server. It seems that this is the module to operate an unmanned Raptor. You need this to get pass that barrier preventing access to the underground shaft at EPS 2. Where do we find one? In Town 2. It is near the red item box containing sniper ammo. Once you find it ADA will send it back to EPS 2. Avoid battles and head underground. Turn right at first intersection and get the detector.fcmd module. Now destroy the porters and then head back to the intersection. Turn right and go to the end. You will need to shoot out a crack in the wall. Once you do destroy the generator and you will Take back control of Jehuty. /----------------------\ Chapter 5: Saving ADA \----------------------/ ********************** Rescue Mission #3 ********************** Before moving on there is another rescue mission at Town 3. You may complete it if you want to. Same thing as before destroy the enemies without casualties or building destruction. Now back to the colony map go to Mountain 1. Some guy in a huge frame will shoot you out of the sky. ADA will start acting funny. She will then tell you that you are far superior to the frame who shot you and advises you to engage. Ignore her if you wish to live and leave the area. ADA is obviously infected with a virus. The place to get a vaccine is Factory 2. But before you do there is a rescue mission available at City 2. ********************** Rescue Mission #4 ********************** I highly recommend you at least go here, if not just for the comet sub weapon. It will be of extreme use to you later on. Destroy all the porters and then open up the red item box to get the passcode pass_comet. The server is on the ground somewhere lost in a sea of buildings. This is by far the hardest rescue mission so don't feel bad if you grab the comet and run. When your ready go to Factory 2. Look on your radar map and find the white arrows signaling you to an underground passage. Follow it through and you'll meet up with an enemy. Use your comet for an easy kill. Go down and grab the vaccine.exe from the local server. The other server is decoy.drvr, but you don't have the passcodes yet so don't worry about it. Once you download the vaccine ADA will be back to her normal self again. She will comment on the large frame you met earlier and say that you need to build up Jehuty a bit more before you could possibly have a chance. So lets do that. Once you leave the final rescue mission will become available at City 1. ********************** Rescue Mission #5 ********************** The last mission was the hardest and this one is the easiest. This was the only rescue operation where I got an A. There aren't any buildings to destroy and only one place where there are survivors so just stay out of that vicinity and you will be OK. /----------------------------\ Chapter 6: Completing Jehuty \----------------------------/ Your first stop is City 2. There is a frame here with the passcode pass_decoy1. Destroy him to get it. You will need a second one in order to access the server. The second one is located at Town 3. When you arrive you will notice that all the enemies are invisible. ADA tells you that they are using stealth technology. You will need to destroy that raptor you were controlling earlier in order to get the proper detector module. Do you remember where that is? Its back at EPS 2. Go there now and enter the maintenance shaft. Head back in the direction of the EPS generator and you will meet up with it. Destroy it to get the detector.fcmd. Once it is you possession you can leave the shaft. When you get out there will be some porters. Destroy them to get the passcode pass_gauntlet. Download the new sub weapon from the local server. Now its back to Town 3. The enemies are now visible. Take them out like normal and get pass_decoy2. Now that you have both codes go back to factory 2 where the decoy.drvr server is located for the new sub-weapon. There are also invisible porters in the area to get ammunition for the decoy. When your ready head to Park 1. *+*+*+BOSS: Orbital Frame ??? Difficulty: Medium Besides rescue mission 4 this is the first time I encountered any difficulty in the game. Obviously your going to have to make use of that decoy sub-weapon. As you approach him he will shoot out powerful lasers. Avoid these and when he locks on to you use your decoy. Then either fire your energy gun or use other sub weapons. After awhile he will change his attack pattern like the previous boss, becoming more aggressive. Just dodge his charges and when he stops to use his weapons fire your comet or gauntlet sub weapons. With a bit of luck he should go down in no time. /---------------------------\ Chapter 7: One Life to Live \---------------------------/ After the scene with the boss save your game and go down to Mountain 1. When you first enter do a 180 and get the pass_bounder from the enemies. The server is in the same area. Now just follow your map. Go straight an then turn at the next left. There is a whole in the mountain. Go through it and make the pin point attack. There is another pin point attack at the end of this river and another one after that. Look at your map. There should be some white arrows. Go through there to meet the next boss. *+*+*+BOSS: Nebula Difficulty: Medium This boss is not much harder then the previous one. Gauntlet is your best friend here. The first stage of the battle just stay semi close to him and use your energy gun or bounder. Once he enters the second stage get a back a little and avoid his attacks. Soon he will take a breather. This is your chance to pummel him with your gauntlet. Rinse and repeat. He should be dead in no time. After defeating Nebula you will view a cut scene. Thunderheart or whatever his name is will tell you to go through the water ducts to reach the warehouse. You will automatically do so and be asked to save your game which you should do. Afterwards you will enter the warehouse, but it's a little quiet. Too quiet. After a brief scene with Thunderheart Viola appears and she wants to fight you really bad. *+*+*+BOSS: Viola Difficulty: Medium-Hard If you're a master of up close combat you wont have as much trouble then you did with the previous battles. Don't try to back off of her because your efforts will be in vain. She does back off once in awhile, but she's usually in your face. Just use your dash attacks and everything is good. Usually when she backs off she makes a gauntlet attack. When you see her reach back to fire shoot a gauntlet your self and the two will cancel each other out. If you need to use Mummy to heal yourself. After she is defeated you will view an FMV. I'm not going to describe any of it because it's a major spoiler. Just sit back and watch. After the FMV Jehuty gets transported to the space port. Along the way there is a conversation where you learn there is more to ADA then meets the eye. Leo also describes a bit about his past. Once inside the space port ADA will instruct Leo on how to disarm the bombs. As you fly around the HUB you will fight enemies as she scans for bombs. Once she finds the bomb she will indicate its location with a marker. Unequip any sub weapon and press CIRCLE while in front of the bomb. Make sure you lock on first. There are 4 bombs total. Once you disarm the bombs its time for another rematch with Viola +*+*+BOSS: Viola Difficulty: Hard Much more difficult this time around. She will try and keep her distance using six flying orbs as her methods of attack. Get in close and don't allow her to use them. If you do, this battle will be much harder. After this only one more fight to go. +*+*+BOSS: Anubis Difficulty: n/a This is a fight you cannot win so don't bother attacking. Just keep those mummy's handy in case you need to heal. If you run out of mummies you can also use the code found below to refill your health and ammo. Soon you will be given the opportunity to leave. =_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_= SECTION 3: SECRETS AND MISC. =_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_=_= /---------------------\ Secrets \---------------------/ These secrets were taken from WWW.GAMEFAQS.COM Different Ending Music- Get an A rank in all 5 rescue missions and you will hear different ending music. B-Leo A-ADA S-Celvice Second Ending- To get the second ending destroy all buildings and all survivors and destroy the colony shaft during the last rescue mission. You should get a different ending. Note: I have not tested this to confirm it. I've tried but for some reason I never can destroy all the buildings. If it is false please email me. Versus Mode- Beat the game on any difficulty to unlock versus mode. Beat it again to get 2 new levels. /---------------------\ Sub Weapons \---------------------/ Javelin- A weak projectile. When you shoot the javelin, it travels in a parabola. Grade: F Phalanx- A rapid firing energy gun. When fired energy bullets scatter in one general direction. Useful for destroying porters, but nothing else. Grade: C Sniper- A gun that fires physical bullets. Not only is it slow, but it does low damage. Grade: F Geyser- Shoots out disks that cling to a surface and fire energy projectiles. A decent weapon when confined in a room, especially in the maintenance shaft, but its usefulness stops there. Grade: C Halberd- A large energy sword. Press CIRCLE to extend and retract it. Powerful, but not very efficient. Grade: D Bounder- Sort of like the stationary burst attack except not as useful. It has poor range and thus a poor grade. Grade: D Comet- A missile type weapon that homes in on your enemies. Probably one of the most useful sub weapon in your arsenal. Grade: B Gauntlet- A projectile like Comet minus the homing ability. However it is much faster and with added damage. Grade: A Decoy- Creates a decoy of yourself to confuse your enemies. Once the decoy is cast your enemies will shoot that instead. Grade: A Mummy- A shield that raises your frame HP. Hold the circle button for the healing effect. These cheats were taken from WWW.GAMEREVOLUTION.COM Disco Mode- At the title screen press Up, Down, Down, X, Triangle, Left, Right, Square. Versus Mode- At the start screen press O, X, Right, Left, Right, Left, Down, Down, Up, Up /---------------------\ Versus Mode \---------------------/ This mode is achieved after beating the game. After beating the game again you will be awarded with two new characters and battle areas. Player 1-Com- Choose this option to play versus the computer. Player1-Player2 Choose this option to fight against a friend. Select Orbital Frame- Select your frame to fight with. Your options are Mummy Hero, Cyclops, Raptor, Jehuty, and Neith. Select Level- Use the directional buttons to adjust the power of your frame. Select Stage- Choose what area of the colony you want to fight in. *Orbital Frames* MUMMY HERO- Regular Attack: Phalanx Dash Attack: Energy Beams Burst Attack: Comet The dash attack is pretty powerful, but that's the only thing it has going for it. This frame is slow moving and not very agile. Grade: C CYCLOPS- Regular Attack: Slash Dash Attack: Strong Slash Burst Attack: Same as Dash Much faster then the mummy hero, but your attacks are limited to close range. Grade: D RAPTOR- Regular Attack: Slash(close) Javelin(far) Dash Attack: Vertical Slash(close) Geyser(far) Burst Attack: Horizontal Slash(close) Bounder(far) Of the three enemy frames this one is the best. It has the speed of the Cyclops and the biggest cache of weapons. Grade: B JEHUTY- Regular Close: Slash(close) Energy Gun(far) Dash Attack: Strong Slash(close) Multi Missle(far) Burst Attack: 360 degree Slash(close) Energy Blast(far) Neith- Regular Attack: Slash(close) Spray Gun(far) Dash Attack: Double Slash(close) Flame Guantlet(far) Burst Attack: Shockwave Blast(close) Energy Blast(far) Naturally Jehuty and Neith are the most well rounded frames in versus mode. They are fast and have decent attacks. Thus they get the best grade. Grade: A *Secret Frames* Beat the game a second time to unlock these new frames. SINGLE SWORD RAPTOR- Same as the other raptor except its not as strong. The only purpose of using this frame is for a challenge. Grade: F ZOMBIE NEITH- Regular Attack: Slash(close) Rapid Shot(far) Dash Slash: Double Slash(close) Blue Gauntlet(far) Burst Attack: Double Slash(close) Six Orbs(far) The attacks are better then the regular Neith, but speed and agility is sacrificed greatly which makes it target practice for Jehuty and Neith.
