The purpose of this FAQ is to describe the World of Dream side quest associated with the Dreamy Jewel, an exclusive feature to the PS2 compilation of YsI and YsII. Contents I. An Overview of the World of Dream II. Art Collection III. Background Music Collection IV. A Final Request... I. An Overview of the World of Dream The side quest of the World of Dream is available in the Ys I&II Eternal Story mode. After the initial opening sequence Adol finds himself in a clinic. The Dreamy Jewel is given to Adol after the conversation with the doctor and the nurse at the clinic during the first play through. To access the World of Dream, Adol must be in an enemy-free area where he recovers HP naturally. Such area includes towns, the bridges in the Abandoned Mines, the outer rim of Darm Tower (where the surrounding landscape can be seen), and the top of Darm Tower, just before the conversion. Simply equip the Dreamy Jewel and stand still for 10 seconds to enter the World of Dream. The two inhabitants of the World of Dream are two sisters named Misha, a painter, and Jeanne, a composer. In order for their artistic talents to flow they need inspiration, and that's where Adol comes in. Misha needs to see items that Adol brings in to be able to start working on a canvas. The case for Jeanne is a bit simpler, as she only needs to listen to Adol's tales of adventure to be able to compose. The options in the World of Dream are: Talk to Misha- she will tell you how many paintings are completed. View painting- view paintings and listen to Misha's themes. Show item- give Misha some inspiration by showing her an item. Talk to Jeanne- she will listen to Adol's stories for inspiration. Listen to Concert- listen to BGM unlocked and Jeanne's themes. Wake Up-resume the adventure. II. Art Collection The painter Misha has five canvases with different themes in both YsI and YsII, a total of 10 paintings can be unlocked. The model for the five paintings in YsI is Feena, and the model for the other five in YsII is Lilia. Each painting is unlocked by locating a specific item during the game and access the third option "Show item" to Misha before she will work on a painting. The corresponding canvas will be unavailable for viewing until some progress in the story is made. You can then view the outline of the work-in-progress and the completed painting can be viewed after some more progress in the story. The location of each item is as follows: YsI: Beauty Shell- Port Barbados, on the beach near the pier in the middle. Accessible before entering Darm Tower. Unlocks Painting #1, Season of the Sun. Gold Earring- Minea, on the table in Sarah's house. Accessible only after Sarah is gone and before entering Darm Tower. Unlocks Painting #2, Distant Divination. Glass Slippers- Abandoned Mine, in a room to the upper left of the boss room. It's only available before entering Darm Tower, so don't forget to pick it up after defeating the boss. Unlocks Painting #3, Eloquent Banquet. Quill Pen- Darm Tower, 6F right path. Instead of taking the left path which leads to the three gargoyle statues that throw Adol in prison, take the right path that leads to an isolated section. The item is located in the lower left of the section at the end of the branching path. Unlocks Painting #4, The Moon and the Princess. Headband- Lado's Tower. The side tower connected to 16F of Darm Tower by a catwalk. The item is in a prison cell to the right. In order to view the painting before converting, return to the rim area outside 16F of Darm Tower immediately and access the World of Dream and show the item. Talk to the prisoner after showing this item to Misha. Unlocks Painting #5, Paladin (looks more like Valkyrie IMHO). YsII: Bridal Bouquet- Lance Village, inside Lilia's house, on the nightstand right next to the bed Adol was resting in. Unlocks Painting #8, White Admiration. Socks- Colony of Lava, inside Talf's house to the upper right. Unlocks Painting #7, Nymph of the Holy Night. Stuffed Loo- Nest of Loo, in the upper right corner on a stack of hay. Unlocks Painting #9, Lili-loo. Frying Pan- Lamia Village, inside the Deserted House on the left edge of the village, in front of the furnace. Unlocks Painting #1, Angelic Cousine. Holy Feather- Palace of Goddess, on the balcony in 2F. Unlocks Painting #10, Petite Goddess. Notice that the paintings in YsI are unlocked in the order of top to bottom, while there is no pattern to the order of unlocking the paintings in YsII. Also note that this information is stored in the game completion System Data (saved after the ending of YsII). Starting a New Game with the game completion System Data in effect will allow viewing of completed paintings as recorded in the System Data. Items corresponding to the Paintings unlocked from the start in this fashion WILL NOT APPEAR. i.e. if you've unlocked the painting "Season of the Sun", the Beauty Shell can no longer be found. III. Background Music Collection The composer Jeanne will listen to Adol's stories and compose music pieces as the story progresses. Access the fourth option "Talk to Jeanne" and Adol will tell her a segment of his adventure. In the event that Adol progresses through multiple segments prior to accessing the World of Dream, you must select that option repeatedly until Jeanne says "Adol, keep adventuring and tell Jeanne all about it. Is that a promise?" to enable all BGM up to the point of the story. The full list of music pieces are listed below. In cases where the English titles of the pieces are identical, a translation of the Japanese title is provided in parenthesis: YsI: Ys eternal-opening- *3 FEENA (Sleeping Princess) FOUNTAIN OF LOVE THE SYONIN TEARS OF SYLPH FIRST STEP TOWARDS WAR PALACE HOLDERS OF POWER PALACE OF DESTRUCTION BEAT OF THE TERROR TOWER OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH THE LAST MOMENT OF THE DARK FINAL BATTLE REST IN PEACE (For Today...) *1 THE MORNING GROW *1 SEE YOU AGAIN *1 Devil"s Wind SO MUCH FOR TODAY-YsI EVENT DEPARTURE OPEN YOUR HEART *3 DREAMING TENSION CHASE OF SHADOW YsII TO MAKE THE END OF BATTLE LILIA TOO FULL WITH LOVE APATHETIC STORY MAY I HELP YOU? However, since the flags for unlocking them occur after the final save point, they can be accessed only after conversion. *2 Possible to access before the final battle of YsII, but Adol must retreat back out to the Shrine area and use the Magic of Return to warp out to a town before World of Dream can be accessed. *3 These pieces can only be accessed after finishing both games of the Eternal Story mode once. Save the system data and Start a New Game, you will start with the Dreamy Jewel (rather than having it given to you). Access it and choose the fourth option "Talk to Jeanne" until she acknowledge completing the collection. IV. A Final Request... After completing both the Art and the Background Music collections (this is only possible on a replay after you've completed the Art collection and saved in the System File after finishing YsI&II Eternal Story mode), choose the first option "Talk to Misha" once more. The two sisters will unveil their past and ask for one final request: Adol must destroy the Dreamy Jewel. Unfortunately at this point I don't have enough information to complete this part of the side quest. Contribution of information in this regard is welcomed and credit will be acknowledged accordingly.
