Introduction |___________________________________________________ This is the guide I wrote for one of my favorite WWE wrestlers, Kurt Angle (the others are: Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio and Rob Van Dam. I also like Steve Austin, the Rock, Hulk Hogan and Ted diBiase but who cares anyway). In this guide you can find Kurt' s biography (just for the fans who wish to know him a little better), his game updated move set, strategy tips and four alternative attire CAW's. I hope you find this guide useful. Have a nice time playing the game! ___________________________________________________ | | 2. Version updates (from last version only) |___________________________________________________ * Strategy tip about alternative Angle Lock finisher added. * Minor text changes. ___________________________________________________ | | 3. Biography |___________________________________________________ * Real name: Kurt Angle * Nick name: none * Height: 6' 2" (about 188 cm) * Weight: 237 pounds (about 108 kg) * Birthday: December 9th, 1968 * From: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA * Finishing moves: Angle Slam, ankle lock (also known as Angle lock) * Trained by: Dory Funk Jr. * Married: Yes (to Mrs. Karen Angle since January 19th, 1998) * Children: One (a daughter named Kyra) * Eye color: Blue-Gray * Hair color: Black (now shaved since 2002, due to a lost bet/battle against Edge) * TV debut year: 1998 * WWF debut year: 1999 * Favorite quote: "Oh, it' s true!" * Greatest career highlights and achievements: - 1996 Olympic Gold medalist in 220-pound freestyle wrestling - 4-time WWE Champion - 1-time WWE Tag-Team Champion - 1-time WWE Intercontinental Champion - 1-time WWE European Champion - 1-time WWE Hardcore Champion - 2000 WWE King of the Ring - WWE SmackDown! Wrestler attributes |___________________________________________________ Here are Kurt' s stats in the game: * Strength: 8 * Submission: 10 (the highest in game along with Chris Benoit and Ric Flair) * Durability: 8 * Technique: 10 (the only wrestler with 10 technique in the game) * Speed: 7 * Charisma: 10 ------------------- * Overall: 94% (the highest in game along with Triple H and The Rock) Note: His attributes cannot be altered like other wrestlers' stats can, because he is registered in the game as the SmackDown! General Manager. A shame if you ask me because I' d like to have his Durability set to 8.5 or 9. I think that 8 is low (also considering Hardcore Holy' s 8.5). I personally believe that THQ did this to avoid having a wrestler with a highest overall than "The Game", Triple H. ___________________________________________________ | | 5. Updated move set |___________________________________________________ The move set below is the one I' ve made after searching through all of the moves and the one I consider closest to Kurt' s way of wrestling. Many of his default moves are changed and if you don' t agree with some of the changes you can simply use any other moves you like. Note: All moves in this set are categorized so that when pressing the down directional button, the move performed will hurt your opponent' s feet/legs or pin him, when pressing the up directional button the move performed will hurt your opponent' s head and when the right or left directional buttons are pressed the moves performed will hurt your opponent' s rest body parts like torso, arms etc. The only exception is the Special Anklelock which is performed by pressing the up directional button. I did this because there is already another move in the power-grapple set that pins your opponent with the down directional button. Also, I provide explanation next to moves that have a specialty. WARNING: As stated above, this is NOT the default move set. It' s an alternative/updated one. I really can' t find anything interesting or useful about giving the default move set here since you can view them through the Create-A-Moveset menu. * Bases - Ring In Move: Kurt Angle - Ring Out Move: Quick - Taunt > Right analog stick down: Kurt Angle 05 > Right analog stick left: Kurt Angle 01 > Right analog stick up: Kurt Angle 03 > Right analog stick right: Kurt Angle 02 - Fighting Style: Kurt Angle - Walking Style: Normal - Running Style: Normal - Entrance > Movie: Kurt Angle > Moves: Kurt Angle > Music: Kurt Angle * Ready Moves - Attack > down + X: Toe Kick 02 > diagonal down + X: Toe Kick 01 > left + X: Back Chop 01 > diagonal up + X: Clothesline 01 > up + X: Dropkick 02 > right + X: Body Punch - Grapple > Submission Grapple ~ down + O (submission grapple stance): Grapple 04 --- ~ down + O: Leg Lock 03 ~ left + O: Headlock Takedown (hurts both body and head) ~ up + O: Headlock 03 ~ right + O: Headlock 01 > Signature Grapple ~ down + O (signature grapple stance): Grapple 08 --- ~ down + O: Kurt Chickenwing (pin) ~ left + O: Suplex 10 ~ up + O: Belly To Belly 06 ~ right + O: Gutwrench Suplex > Power Grapple ~ down + O (power grapple stance): Grapple 07 --- ~ down + O: Powerslam Pin 01 (pin) ~ left + O: German Suplex 02 (hurts both head and body) ~ up + O: Special Anklelock ~ right + O: Backbreaker 09 > Quick Grapple ~ down + O (quick grapple stance): Grapple 03 --- ~ down + O: Leg Trip 02 ~ left + O: Arm Drag 04 ~ up + O: Headlock & Punch (dirty move) ~ right + O: Fireman Carry 01 > Grapple Attack ~ first hit: Grapple Punch 01 ~ second hit: Grapple Punch 01 ~ third hit: Grapple Punch 01 - Back Attack Note: The moves below are performed when opponent is in a normal condition and you are behind him. > O: Irish Whip (cannot change) > down + O: School Boy Roll Up (pin; opponent cannot move for a while because he coplains to the referee; leaves opponent groggy for an Angle Slam) > left + O: Back Suplex 03 (hurts both head and body) > up + O: Back Tazzmission (hurts both head and arms) > right + O: German Suplex 05 Note: The moves below are performed when opponent is groggy and you are behing him. > O: Irish Whip (cannot change) > down + O: German Suplex 09 > left + O: Abdominal Stretch 01 > up + O: Back Suplex 05 > right + O: German Suplex 04 - Edge of the Cell > O while facing opponent: Downward Thrust > any direction + O while facing opponent: Downward Thrust > O while at opponent' s back: Downward Thrust > any direction + O while at opponent' s back: Downward Thrust * Ground - Attack > X: Kurt Angle Stomp > up or down + X: Elbow Drop 02 > left or right + X: Elbow Drop 02 - Grapple Note: The moves below are performed while opponent is on the ground and you are near the upper part (torso or head) of his body. > O: Raise (cannot change) > O O: Sitdown (cannot change) > down + O: Pin Fall (cannot change) > left + O: Sleeper Hold & Scissors 02 (hurts both head and body) > up + O: Headlock 05 > right + O: Wake Up (or Headlock 04 if you like. Effective ways to use Kurt Angle |___________________________________________________ Kurt Angle is one of the best wrestlers in WWE history and one of the best in the game. To use him as good as possible you can follow some of the tips provided below. I' ll explain them as simple as I can, so that even a rookie player can win his very first games pretty easy, even in the Legend difficulty level. * Don' t forget he has the highest technique in the game (10), so be sure to use this advantage to its fullest. Use the reversal buttons (L2 and R2) just before the hit or grapple land and don' t tap them all the time in order to achieve a better timing. You' ll most probably miss the counter if you act like this. Especially when lying on the ground, correct timing when using counters is crucial or else, some moves like John Cena' s 5-Knuckle Shuffle can be really deadly because, especially against a human opponent, you can perform them almost indefinitely! (I' ve used Cena' s move consecutively about 16 times against the CPU until it finally got countered and a friend of mine used it at least 25 times in a row on me -I was playing with Big Show- before stopping (I begged him to stop) because I couldn' t counter it when tapping R2 all the time. When I tried to tap R2 just before Cena' s move, I was able to counter it after the second time, so you can see that correct timing is really important). Remember that when you are standing and opponent tries to grapple you, you have two chances of avoiding the grapple. One when he first grapples you using any directional button + O and the other when the first animation finishes and BEFORE he attempts to use any directional button + O to perform his grapple. If you don' t manage to reverse a grappling position at your first try, wait until the animation finishes and immediately tap R2, before the actual grapple takes place. (Remember thought that a human opponent can take his time and not press any directional button + O immediately. If a player uses this tactic then you also need some luck in your timing). This way you have most possibilities to reverse your opponent' s move. Timing is also important for reversing finishing moves. Tap L2 + R2 whenever your opponent' s finisher condition occurs and before he attempts his finishing move. * With the move set provided above, it' s a good strategy to go for feet/leg submission and then, when you have a finisher use it for an Angle Lock. There are plenty of moves that hurt your opponent' s feet/legs with the Special Anklelock and of course Angle Lock 02 being very effective. If you tap the buttons quickly enough and your opponent doesn' t have a high Submission attribute, you can even win the match if his legs are in an orange or even yellow condition! (Especially if his Submission attribute is around 7.5 or lower) * Whenever you want to use Angle Slam, don' t wait until an opportunity to get behind your opponent appears at random. Force it to appear! Below are ways to have an Angle Slam easily performed: - After Headlock 01 your opponent remains groggy for a short period of time. - Enter in a grapple position using any directional button and O and then press Triangle. You can also run towards you opponent and press right or left + O. You' ll go behing him leaving him groggy so you can perform your finisher immediately! Don' t use the other method to get behing your opponent (by pressing Square, while running towards opponent) because in this case your opponent will not be groggy when you get behind him. If such thing happens you could punch him by simply using the X button and he may get groggy. If he does, it will be for a very short period of time so be sure to grab that opportunity as soon as possible and execute your finisher. - When you reverse some moves you get behind your opponent so you can use the Angle Slam (ALL reversals leave your opponent groggy). - Toss your opponent to a turnbuckle, use a running attack on him, like the Turnbuckle Clothsline and go behind him while groggy. - Clothesline 01 performed with diagonal up + X will also, most of the times, make your opponent turn (he' ll be groggy for a second). - After School Boy Roll Up or Illegan Pin, your opponent is vulnerable as he complains to the referee. - Use the Wake Up and while opponent is getting up, move behind him (he' s groggy while getting up). * The move list provided contains some dirty moves as well, so if you decide to use Kurt Angle as a dirty player be sure to use them along with L1 in rope brakes and referee disagreement for a quicker dirty-move meter filling. When your dirty meter gets full don' t use it immediately. Remember that if you play against a human opponent he can always run away from you and avoid you. A smart trick to overcome this is to have the bar almost full, perform a dirty move to get it completely full and then, if opponent is lying on the ground, use O to get him up (he' ll get up being groggy for about one second), immediately use the right analog stick to enable your dirty tactics move and simply grab him while still groggy... If you are quick enough you can use this trick about 3 times in a row. (Use O to raise your opponent up and grab him again). You can also let opponent recover from a 2-count pin by pressing Square when the referee is counting or use weapons if allowed or referee is down. They will boost your meter! * A disadvantage of the above move set is that it does not contain moves for bleeding your opponent (except weapon finishers). If you find it hard to win First Blood matches you can use weapons or try changing a basic grapple move to a bleeding one, for example a DDT. Always remember that you can bleed your opponent outside the ring even without the use of weapons. First Irish Whip him on a turnbuckle' s steel pole outside of the ring and try grabbing him using any directional button + O. * Taunts help you built up your finisher meter a lot quicker. Use them wisely and while you have great distance from your opponent or he is lying down on the ground. Also remember that you can still use reversals with L2 and R2 while doing a taunt... * Another way to force your opponent to tap out is by using the Headlock 04 (if you have selected to use it instead of Wake Up) while opponent is lying on the ground and his head' s condition is red (use moves that damage your opponent' s head to achieve this). He' ll tap out for sure! You must also be very careful against opponents that use this move (like Cena, Undertaker, Triple H etc) when your head' s condition is red, because if this move is successfully performed on you, it' s game over. Try reverse it whenever possible. Timing is the key, as stated above... * If you see that an opponent is too difficult to injure, toss him 3-4 times to a turnbuckle corner (the corner must have the "pillow" on it) and eventually his body condition will change. If his body is undamaged you need to toss him 4 times to a turnbuckle, else you only need 3 times to toss him to a turnbuckle corner. * You can also use the alternative Angle Lock finisher when reversing your opponent' s moves (mostly kicks), when the reversal animation is the one that your wreslter catches opponent' s leg. At that time you can press L1 and you will perform your finisher but the submission bar won' t show up. Instead you' ll inflict massive damage to his legs. The only con of this version of Angle Lock is that you don' t get to control the rope-break as you do when a submission bar shows up. Other than that this move is a real pain and your opponent (mostly a human one) will surely not expect it... * Finally, because many amateur players don 't really know how to quickly tap the buttons in type A submissions like Angle Lock, be sure to tap ALL buttons as quickly as possible! With your right thumb tap Square, Triangle, X and O, with your left thumb tap the directional buttons (circular thumb moves will help) and with the rest of your fingers tap L1, R1, L2 and R2 as many times as you can. Not that hard once you get the hang of it... ___________________________________________________ | | 7.
