Copyright Notice & Disclaimer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ INTRODUCTION ------------ ***************************************************************** * This guide will only tell you how to extract the audio for * * your listening pleasure. It won't tell you how to rebuild * * the game with new music, because I don't know how to do * * that, and I don't care to know how to do that. * ***************************************************************** I've been a wrestling fan since the 1980s, and I've always enjoyed the wrestler's entrance themes. I own most of the WWF/WWE albums from 1985's "The Wrestling Album" to 2002's "Anotholgy," while other members of my family own the ones I don't have. I also have two CDs I made of various WWF/WWE/WCW themes I've collected over the years. This is my second music extration guide. However, as of this writing, I've also written guides for the previous two games in the SmackDown! series: 2001's Just Bring It (JBI) and 2002's Shut Your Mouth (SYM). * SPECIAL LEGAL INFORMATION * As far as I know, this is perfectly legal. You are merely making a backup copy of what you already own and leaving it on a storage device (hard drive, CD, etc.) for future use. However, it is ILLEGAL for you to put any of the music you have copied onto the Internet. This includes, but is not limited to, placing the sound files as downloads on your personal homepage or a corporate music collection or sharing the files on a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing network such as Kazaa, iMesh, Grokster, etc. You may NOT distribute these files between you and other acquaintances through any means whatsoever. Anything you do as a result of this guide is completely your responsibility, and neither the author nor any other third party will take responsibility for your actions. ================================================================================ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------- Along with the Here Comes The Pain game disc, you will need the following on/in your computer in order to do the music extraction. 1. A DVD-ROM drive, or any other optical drive that is able to read DVD data discs. 2. Microsoft Windows 95 or higher (unconfirmed about 95, but I know it works on 2000) 3. Three gigabytes of free space on your hard drive. I don't know what's the least you could have to do this, but three gigs would give PLENTY of room to do everything with space left over. Otherwise you may have to convert songs a few at a time. 4. A copy of ADXUtil (Win32/GUI version), which you can download from my PlayStation page (http://www.theraffon.net/~spookcentral/playstation.htm). You'll also need a program that can handle .zip files. If you don't have one, you should be able to find plenty at: http://www.snapfiles.com OPTIONAL * An audio editor. (personal suggestion: Goldwave) * A CD making program (one probably came with the drive when you bought it). (personal suggestion: Easy CD Creator) * An MP3 encoding program. (personal suggestion: MPEG Suite) Links to the above can be found on either SnapFiles or my Software page: http://www.theraffon.net/~spookcentral/software.htm ================================================================================ MUSIC LIST ---------- This is a list of all of the music I could find on the game disc. This includes hidden music (not available in the game), duplicates, and audio that most people probably could care less about. For the record, in regards to hidden music there is very little of it and the five tracks I found are just alternate versions of themes already in the game. Some of these themes are fake (not the wrestler's real-life entrance theme) and some are old (not the current theme at the time of the game's release - 10/27/2003). Fake ones will be labelled when known. Titles come from the game's manual or from a wrestling audio CD on which the song appears. In some cases, if not all, I will list a wrestling CD (or CDs) on which the song appears - though the version in the game may be slightly different than what's on the CD. If it sounds *too* different, I won't credit it from the CD. If a CD is listed, BUY THE CD, because the version on the CD will be complete and not just a one minute segment like in the game. For your convenience, there is a section further in this document containing purchase links for wrestling CDs. I'm not a wrestling music expert, so feel free to send corrections. After each title is the track length of the outputted wav files in minutes and seconds and the file size of the outputted wav files. The audio in the game is in ADX format. However, the ADX files are archived inside AFS files. So, the filename line of each track contains the location of the AFS file on the game disc, followed by the real name of the ADX file contain therein, and in parenthesis the "relative" filename that ADXUtil gives the ADX file. If you want to see the real filename of each ADX file, you'll need AFS Explorer, which you can download from my PlayStation page (http://www.theraffon.net/~spookcentral/playstation.htm). However, this program is completely unnecessary for this project. I am providing the real filename for the benefit of those people who may need such information. (Confused yet? I hope not.) Original music descriptions for the Shut Your Mouth (SYM) tracks came from SuburbanHell's SYM "Original Music FAQ." ** WWE THEMES ** A-Train (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM003.AFS: bgm129.adx (BGM003_00009) Batista (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM003.AFS: bgm126.adx (BGM003_00006) The Big Show - Big (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm105.adx (BGM002_00025) [WWF The Music Vol. 4, 1999] Booker T - KOS 010 #-31 (Booker T Anthem) (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm091.adx (BGM002_00011) Brock Lesnar - Next Big Thing (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm118.adx (BGM002_00038) [a version without the little musical hook at the beginning can be found on WWE Anthology, 2002] Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM003.AFS: bgm156.adx (BGM003_00036) Chris Benoit - Whatever (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm092.adx (BGM002_00012) ["Whatever" performed by Our Lady Peace] [WWF Forceable Entry, 2002] Chris Jericho - Break Down The Walls [with countdown] (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm088.adx (BGM002_00008) Chris Jericho - Break Down The Walls [in progress] (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm089.adx (BGM002_00009) Christian (1:00) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm094.adx (BGM002_00014) The Dudley Boyz - Ollie Stalefish (0:59) (10.98 MB) \BGM\BGM002.AFS: bgm097.adx (BGM002_00017) * NOTE: This is the Dudley Boyz first WWF theme. You don't need to be an expert, though. I certainly am not :-) $$ IF YOU'RE PLANNING ON MAKING MP3 FILES AS YOUR FINAL END RESULT, YOU $$ $$ CAN FOLLOW A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT WALKTHROUGH, WHICH FOLLOWS THIS ONE $$ 1. Install ADXUtil. Extract it to any directory on your hard drive and run adxutil.exe. You may want to create a start menu shortcut for easy access. 2. The audio in the game is in ADX format. However, the ADX files are archived inside AFS files. You will need to decide which AFS you want to open. They are as follows: \BGM\BG_ENV.AFS - Background Environmental Noise \BGM\BGM000.AFS - Game Music: Various \BGM\BGM001.AFS - Game Music: Match Backgrounds & Menu Music \BGM\BGM002.AFS - WWE Themes \BGM\BGM003.AFS - WWE Themes \BGM\BGM004.AFS - Game Music: Original Songs \BGM\CHEER.AFS - Crowd Chants \BGM\PBP000.AFS - Game Music: Quick Music Stings Ignore the files that contain types of audio that you have no interest in. 3. In ADXUtil, click on the "File" menu and select "Settings" from the list. Set the "Output format for ADX stream" to Wave and click OK. NOTE: Everytime you run ADXUtil, it reverts back to ADX. So, you'll need to keep setting it back to Wave. 4. Click the "Open Archive" button (or press CTRL+O, or select "Open Archive" from the "File" menu). Navigate to your DVD-ROM drive and select the AFS file you wish to extract audio files from. Select it and press Open. 5. The program will automatically list all of the ADX audio files contain therein. Select the first one, hold down the Shift key, and press either the down arrow key or the Page Down key to select all of the files listed. 6. Click the "Extract To" button (or press CTRL+E, or select "Extract To The Folder" from the "Commands" menu, or right-click on the file list and select "Extract To The Folder"). Find a folder/directory on your hard drive where you wish to keep all of your Here Comes The Pain music files and press OK. You can use one folder/directory for all of your HCTP files. When the blue bar reaches the end, your file extraction is complete. This time varies greatly depending on your computer's specs and the length of the tracks you are copying. You will need to repeats steps 4 through 6 for each AFS file that you want to extract audio files from. 7. A lot of the files you extracted contain nothing but silence. The full list of these tracks is at the bottom of the music list above. You can delete these tracks, especially if you need the space. 8. Now that you have all of these large wav files on your hard drive, you can do lots of things with them (wav is a very common format). First you may want to maximize or normalize the volume and/or remove any silence from the ends of the wav files. To do this, you'll need an audio editor. Now, chances are, you'll want to do one of two things with the wav files: put them on an audio CD so that you can listen to them on an audio CD player or convert them to MP3 format for listening on your computer or a portable MP3 player. AUDIO CD - You'll need a CD-RW drive (or "CD burner" as it's sometimes called) and a CD making program (one probably came with the drive when you bought it). Just follow the directions in the program and you shouldn't have a problem. If you have any problems, contact the folks who made the program you're using, not me. MP3 - You'll need an encoding program. Most should be able to convert all of your wav files to mp3 files in one go. Once your files are successfully burned to an audio CD or encoded into MP3 files, you can safely delete all of the wavs. You might want to keep ADXUtil because you never know when you'll have a use for it. ** REMEMBER ** These files should NOT be shared with friends, uploaded to the Internet or shared on peer-to-peer networks. Everything I've told you in this guide is for YOUR USE ONLY! ================================================================================ EXTRACTION WALKTHROUGH - DIRECTLY TO MP3 ---------------------------------------- Thanks to Francesco Tescione, I can provide you with a walkthough in which you can directly extract the audio on the game disc into MP3 format. If you follow this procedure, the disk space requirement is very low. However, if you choose to do it this way, you won't be able to edit or modify the outputted file without causing more compression and quality loss. To do this you'll also need a copy of the LAME encoder's dll file (lame_enc.dll), which you can download from: http://www.hot.ee/smpman/mp3/ http://www.jthz.com/~lame/ 1. Install ADXUtil. Extract it to any directory on your hard drive and run adxutil.exe. You may want to create a start menu shortcut for easy access. Extract lame_enc.dll to the same directory as ADXUtil. Set the "Output format for ADX stream" to L.A.M.E. MP3 (CBR/VBR) and click OK. Set the "Output Bitrate" to 320 kbps (CBR) and click OK. [follow steps 4 through 7 in the original walkthrough above] ** REMEMBER ** These files should NOT be shared with friends, uploaded to the Internet or shared on peer-to-peer networks. Everything I've told you in this guide is for YOUR USE ONLY! ================================================================================ MUSIC CD PURCHASE LINKS ----------------------- This is a list of the albums I may have mentioned in the Music List section. I'm using the same list or all my wrestling music extraction guides, so some of these albums may not be mentioned elsewhere in this document. The years given are the copyright years listed on the albums. I have decided not to allow websites other than GameFaqs to host my documents/files. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. In order to make sure that my work is always available in it's most up-to-date form, it is necessary for me to limit it's distribution to just one site. I just don't have the time to give updates to multiple sites. If anyone sees this document on any site other than GameFaqs, please let me know and I will take care of the situation. Thanks. * Everything I know about audio extraction is in this document. I can't provide you with any technical support if you run into any problems because, to reiterate, everything I know is already in this document. Maybe someone on the GameFaqs message boards can help you. * Do not e-mail me asking if I will share any audio files with you. It is illegal to do, plus I don't have any files to share. Everything I extracted to make the guide has long been deleted. * I do not know how to extract the Titan Tron videos from the game. It might be possible, but I don't know, and I really don't care to know. Maybe someone on the GameFaqs message boards can help you. * I can't help you with audio extraction for any games I did not make guides for. If the files on the game disc look similar to the ones used in the games that my guides cover, then you can try the techniques found in my guides. Otherwise you're out of luck. Sorry. * I don't know how to extract audio from non-Playstation 2 versions of this game (or any other games). My knowledge only covers the Playstation 2 system, and only the games I've written audio extraction guides for (though some of that info can be applied to other games that use the same audio formats). ================================================================================ REVISION HISTORY ---------------- Ver. 1.0 (11/10/2003) The very first version of this guide. Ver. 1.1 (11/13/2003) Added a note to the top of the Introduction section stating that this guide is for audio extraction only, it won't help you in adding new music into the game. Also added a credits section. Updated the theme info for: Rob Van Dam, Matt Hardy, and Victoria. Ver. 1.2 (11/17/2003) Added a note at the beginning of the Extraction Walkthrough section telling people to read the "System Requirements" section first before proceeding with the walkthrough. Also added descriptions for the Original music. Yes, I know my descriptions for the three new pieces of music (Original 19, 20, 21) are rather lame. I don't know enough about music to write good descriptions, so if someone can do better, please e-Mail it to me. Ver. 1.3 (12/7/2003) Updated the introduction. Also updated the theme info for Too Cool (formally Rikishi), Triple H, Lita, Kane, Kurt Angle, Vince McMahon, and many others. Added the "Extraction Walkthrough - Directly To MP3" Ver. 1.4 (12/19/2003) Added the "Music CD Purchase Links" section. Also updated some theme info. Ver. FINAL (12/26/2003) Updated the theme info for Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, Rob Van Dam, Sable, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Lance Storm, and Sean O'Haire. Also updated a few crowd chants and the release year of WWF The Music Volume 5. Ver. FINAL (1/21/2004) I was not planning on updating this guide anymore, but with the release of the WWE Originals CD, I needed to make a minor change. John Cena's theme info has been updated and a link for the WWE Originals CD has been added to the "Music CD Purchase Links" section. Ver. FINAL (3/22/2005) Added some optional programs to the System Requirements section. Ver. FINAL (12/29/2005) Evolution's theme info has been updated and a link for the WWE ThemeAddict: The Music V6 CD has been added to the "Music CD Purchase Links" section. Ver. FINAL (1/5/2006) Rodney Mack's theme info has been updated. ================================================================================ COPYRIGHT NOTICE & DISCLAIMER ----------------------------- This document is copyright 2003 by Paul Rudoff.
