INTRODUCTION ================================================================================ 1. About this FAQ ----------------- This FAQ contains info on how to make different materials and it also has various tips that can be useful to know about when forging. Basically the FAQ was created as a means to help people get the "Ability Sets" that they want on their weapons. It's a pretty simple FAQ so far, but hopefully I'll add some more info as I go along. Please let me know if there is something in particular that you think should be in here, and I'll see what I can do. ================================================================================ II. COMBINATION TABLE ================================================================================ 1. General Tips --------------- * If you're looking to increase the durability of a magical item, you should use either use "Quick-Fix" or the "Recycle" spell. Because if you forge it at a blacksmith, the special Magic Art on it will disappear. * Be aware that using a Bestial material as the secondary material may place a Magic Art ability in the 2nd slot of your weapon/accessory (4th slot in the case of a shield). So using a Bestial material for the purpose of replenishing durability is not recommended as it will then overwrite the ability that would normally go there. See the "Adding Magic Art Abilities to Weapons, Accessories & Shields" section for further details. * Using Demonite as the secondary material may place the Forbidden Arts ability in the 2nd slot of your weapon/accessory. See the "Adding Magic Art Abilities to Weapons, Accessories & Shields" section for further details. * The Dragonheart material always puts the "Ultra Heal" ability in the fourth slot, overwriting the ability that would otherwise be there. * As you might have noticed, you cannot create Guns by forging. Your best bet of getting one is probably by playing a story which has a character that comes with a Gun equipped from the beginning. You can also find Guns in treasure chests if you're lucky enough. Also, when you're increasing the durability of a Gun, you can't use Feather-, Fang-, Skin- or Wood as secondary materials. * Soft Reset (L1+R1+Start+Select) is your friend when forging, especially when it comes to those combinations with a 15% success rate. Remember to save before you start forging if the success rate is not 100%. * As you might know, Guns only have one Ability: Shoot. So the only thing you will want to do with a Gun, is to add durability points (EN). * Always try to use appropriate secondary materials when forging, because you're less likely to lose an Ability on a weapon then. Using the right secondary material will add more durability points to your weapon as well. See the "Material List" and the "Materials Sorted by Material Type" for more details about what materials to use when. * Note that you can't forge Body Armor, Leggings or Headgear. You'll have to buy them in shops or find them in quests. ================================================================================ 2. Quick Guide to Forging Damascus ---------------------------------- Note: This is just one way of doing this, it doesn't neccessarily have to be done this way. But I know quite a few people are interested in forging Damascus since it's one of the best materials in the game, so I decided to make a quick guide for those who don't want to read through the combination chart and figure it out. [1.] Forge a Steel (2) dagger by combining Steel (1) and any wood material. 15% success rate for this one. The dagger will have an attack power of 38 when you succeed, so look for that. If it's 39, it's still Steel (1). [2.] Forge a Mullock (2) dagger by combining Mullock (1) and some Bestial material (Carnelian, Topaz, Opal, Ravenite or Lazuli. Not Serpentine though). 100% success rate for this one, even though you won't see any difference. Alternatively you can combine two pieces of Mullock, but you better not because you will probably need all the extra Mullock you have to create more Damascus weapons. [3.] Forge any Damascus acc./weapon/shield by combining the Steel (2) dagger and the Mullock (2) dagger. 100% success rate. ================================================================================ 4. Adding Magic Art Abilities to Weapons, Accessories & Shields --------------------------------------------------------------- Note: You cannot add Magic Arts to Guns. In the chart below you can see how to add certain Magic Art abilities to various equipment by using Bestial Stones as secondary material. You can also give a weapon or accessory the Forbidden Arts Ability by using Demonite as secondary material. The success rate for these combinations are 20%. So you might want to save the game and be prepared to reset if you fail. Especially when you're using Demonite, because of the rarity of that material. Material List ---------------- Corundum (1) = Sapphire Corundum (2) = Ruby * The last nine stats in the chart (Dagger-Acc.) shows how much durability is added when used as secondary items. * The "Rank" number relates to how rare an item is. High Rank number = Rare item. The items without a rank number are special items that either have to be forged (Queen Shiva) or found in quests (Altemana aka Elemental Gears). * As a note, Sapphire comes with a Corundum (1) (Sapphire) accessory eqipped from the beginning. ABILITY SETS ================================================================================ 1. Ability Set Combination Table -------------------------------- When you want to have a specific Ability Set on a weapon, you have to know the weight of both the base item and secondary item. First look up the material weights in the material list above, and then use the following combination table to get the Ability Set you want. As you can see in the chart below, most combinations have several possible results. So if you don't get the Ability Set you wanted, just keep trying until you do. Note that you have to actually create a different weapon in order to change the Ability Set on a weapon. You will only add durability points to a weapon if you forge an existing weapon with a secondary item. Let's say you have a Steel (1) Dagger, but want a Damascus Sword with Rear Blade. First make a Steel (1) Sword out of the Dagger using Feather as the secondary item. As you can see in the chart above, that combination will either get you a Sword with an Ability Rank of 3 or 4. If you didn't get 3, then try again. Now when you have the Steel (1) Sword with Ability Rank 3, turn the Steel (1) Sword into a Steel (2) Sword using any wood material as secondary material. This combination has a success rate of 15% though, so you might have to save and Soft Reset a few times. The Ability Set won't change as long as you don't create a different weapon (i.e. turn a Dagger into a Sword). So just combine the Steel (2) Sword with a piece of Mullock (2), and you'll have a Damascus Sword with the "Twin Blade, , Rear Blade, Cross Slash" Ability Set. ================================================================================ 2. BLACKSMITH INFO ================================================================================ 1. Blacksmith Specialities -------------------------- Each of the four Blacksmiths have their own speciality. In addition, what type of weapon they handle varies from one to the other, so you'll have to travel around to different ones depending on what type of weapon/acc. you want to make. The various Blacksmiths and their respective specialities: [Wanda] * Good at increasing durability points for Bows and Accessories. * Good at drawing out abilities. * Only Blacksmith that handles Guns. [Longshank] * Available weapons/equipment change depending on what Skill Panels Mythe has on his Growth Panel. See "Mythe Works Info" section for more info. [Gadeira] * Good at increasing durability points. [Vaftom] * Good at drawing out abilities. Mythe Works Info ------------------- The Blacksmith in Longshank is called Mythe Works. What types of weapons/ equipment it handles normally can be seen in the previous chart above. However, in Mythe's story the available types depend on what Skill Panels (Weaponsmith and Accessory Smith panels) Mythe has. The requirements for availability of all types of equipment is at least a L3 Accessory Smith panel and a L5 Weaponsmith panel.
