The Getaway Demo FAQ Version 2 Playstation 2 (2002) By RedXIII1978 9th Dec 2002 Introduction: Welcome to my very first FAQ to talk you through Sony's Demo of their money- eating project, The Getaway. Now shut it and read on, you muppet! Disclosure: This document is Copyright 2002 RedXIII1978. Well, it's got my name at the top so it means I wrote it. If you would like to use all or part of this FAQ, just mail me and see what mood I'm in. Version 1: Sections 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 created. Verson 2: Control section corrected, Weapons section corrected, Tips added. Contents: 1. Story & Characters 2. Controls 3. Mark's moves 4. Weapons 5. Walkthrough 6. Thank you's 7. Contact me 1. Story and Characters: This game is set in Underworld of London and you play Mark Hammond, an ex-con who's gone straight but gets dragged back to a life of crime by his old boss, Charlie Jolson by kidnapping Mark's son and sending him on increasingly suicidal missions. The full game also lets you play as hard boiled cop Frank Carter out to nail Mr Jolson but for the demo you'll be Mark. 2. Controls: Driving: Left Stick-Steering Right Stick- Accelerate/Brake/Reverse X Button- Accelerate Square Button- Brake Triangle Button- Reverse Circle Button- Enter/ Exit Vehicle L3-Horn On Foot: Left Stick- Move Triangle Button- Draw Weapon Square Button- Shoot Circle Button- As Above X Button- Roll (When running), Hostage (When near characters) and 'Sneak' mode, see below. R1 Button- Auto Aim R2 Button- Manual Aim L2 Button- Reload 3. Mark's Moves: Sneak mode: Pressing the 'X' button near a wall makes Mark press his back up against it. By pressing the left stick in the direction you want to go makes Mark shuffle along the wall until you reach a corner. Then the camera will shift to show what's around the corner. Now by pressing the left stick in the direction of the corner, Mark will jump out and you can shoot enemies (Holding R1), then spring back round the corner by letting go of the left stick. Vaguely like the foot pedal in Time Crisis. Also if there is a low object like a knocked over table like on the first floor, pressing the 'X' button makes Mark duck down behind it. You can shuffle sideways. Pressing the R1 button makes Mark stand up ready to shoot, releasing this makes him duck again or you can press Square to make Mark fire blindly over the obstacle. Hostage mode: Press 'X' behind any character and Mark'll grab them. Pressing Square makes you either shoot them execution style or snap their neck, depending on whether your gun is drawn. You can still shoot any other enemies in the area too by pressing R1. Healing mode: If at any point you do take a few hits, Mark's back and arms will be bloody and he'll limp like a Nancy-boy. As there are no health pickups, you can stand near a wall and let him catch his breath. He will then enter healing mode and start to recover (You'll see the blood start to fade away). I recommend making sure you've cleared the room of enemies first before doing this. Sound confusing? Practice makes perfect, get the 'Sneak' mode sussed and you'll hardly get shot at all. 4. Weapons: The weapon system for this game is fairly clever, Mark's pistol is you default gun. Any other weapons you pick up have set amount of bullets then you'll throw it away once empty and return to the pistol. Pistol: Two or three shots take a goon down, why not pick up another one to look REALLY cool. Shotgun: One to two blasts from this bad boy will send most gangster to see Satan in hell. Normally you get one reload. AK-47: A short burst of this baby will cleanse most heathens. If your facing a group of enemies, use manual aim and spray the room. ##################################Spoilers!!################################## I strongly recommend not reading any further and trying it out for yourself FIRST, then if you're still having trouble then read on. ############################################################################## Walkthrough: When the cut-scene ends, put your foot down and follow that red Jaguar (Cheers P Curtis). The car's indicator will tell you where to turn. The best place to drive is either in the dead centre of the road or facing on coming traffic because normally they'll see you coming and move out the way. Or if you're fast enough stay where the red car is and that'll clear the way. Try not to hit too many things as your car can not take that much punishment, if your car starts spitting out black smoke it'll also not run very fast too. So then hit the brakes and swipe a new one (Try not to get a Nissan Micra, as they're naff! Saab's are nice!) Cause too much agro to the other drivers or hang about too long and the police'll be on your arse like a whippet and they will nail you. Eventually you will get to an alleyway and the red car is parked. Both your car's indicators will flash to tell you to stop. Get out the car, draw your gun and head to the door on the left. If an enemy gets to close, he can just bash you over the head with the butt of his gun and it's game over, luckily you can also do the same. Now is your chance to test out the 'Sneak' mode, there are three goons hanging out in this first area and another will run out the warehouse as you approach the door. You can just auto-aim and kill them all. ################################### HANDY TIP 1:############################## Also try manually aiming the red barrels under the balcony for an impressive explosion and when the guy flies off you can grab his AK. ############################################################################## You can also use the Fork-lift Truck and run them over but it's difficult to get to it alive. ################################### HANDY TIP 2:############################## 'Before you go into the warehouse itself, sneak against the wall next to the door. Pop out and free aim, there are two canisters (red with yellow). Shoot once, wait till the gas that comes out fills alot of the room and then shoot again and it blows up, igniting the gas and making a huge fire ball that burns everyone. The gas does run out so make sure you hit the canister again before it runs out.' - car dept, gamefaqs message board. ############################################################################## Enter the next room, there are in total five baddies in this area, If you followed the Handy Tip there'll be two or three. Normally you'll die here a few times on your first attempts. Head for the stack of pallets just to the left and enter 'Sneak' mode, head right and you can blast three of them from here. Then head around the other side of the pallets and plug the other two, once again there is the opportunity to blow up a barrel. If you head up the little flight of steps there is a few shotguns for your murderous pleasure, anyway head to the door leading to the even bigger warehouse. There's three hard cases in here, the first you can see walking up and down so he's an easy target. Head for the gap in the pallets where the guy was patrolling the sneak up the wall to the right, there's goon #2. Go around the corner and 'sneak' the next wall and goon #3 will pop out and give you some stick. Now head in his direction, go through the door and up the stairs giving the guy a quick shotgun blast to the head about halfway up. When you enter the next room, run straight to the low desk type thing and hit 'X' to crouch behind it. Then hit R1 to stand up and gun those two geezers down or try just hitting square to fire blindly over the top. Next run around your hiding place and another victim will run your way, then keep going round the corner then there'll be two more heavies guarding a door. Gun these down and head through the door then into the room on the left. Ta-Daa! Watch the cut-scene and breathe a sigh of relief. Well done. 6.
