RIKIMARU CHARACTER OVERVIEW | <<<==-*-=-*-=\*/=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> Age: 26 Sex: Male Weapon: Izayoi sword (The Sword of the Azuma. It is passed down from generation to generation to the worthiest of ninjas.) Bio: Leader of the Azuma Shinobi-ryu ninja sect. His thoroughness, patience and bravery have earned him the honor of the Izayoi sword according to the sect's master Shiunsai. Terrifyingly focused and withdrawn, Rikimaru's sense of destiny and composure give him the strength to take on missions that most would consider acts of suicide. To view a Screenshot of Rikimaru simply copy and paste the following link into your browser: >>> http://www.tenchu3.de/english/tenchu3/screens/g70.asp <<< <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> 6. STEALTH KILL OVERVIEW | <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> A Stealth Kill is a cinematic action sequence that ends your enemies life provided you attack your victim while he/she is in "" mode. Basically, if a guard is totally unaware of your presence and you sneak up to him and press the attack button, the game will treat you to a cutscene of you taking care of business. (Sometimes you can still trigger a Stealth Kill even if the guard has just spotted you as long as your attack is immediate. Q: Who can I Stealth Kill? A: You can Stealth Kill any enemy (Except for bosses) including Swordsmen, Archers, Spear handlers, and the Guard Dog. <<<==-*-=-*-==-*-==-*-=-*-==>>> 7. RIKIMARU'S STEALTH KILLS | <<<==-*-=-*-==-*-==-*-=-*-==>>> There are a total of 6 different Stealth Kills that Rikimaru can perform. Which Stealth Kill is triggered when is based on your position or direction in relation to your victim's position and angle. In this section I will explain to you how to execute each and every one from positioning to timing to execution. NOTE: The Difficulty Factor of each Stealth Kill is represented on a scale of 1 - 5 stars. (1= Easy and 5 obviously being the most difficult) <.><.><.><.><.><.> 7.1 THROAT SLIT | <.><.><.><.><.><.> Positioning: From Behind (Enemy Facing Away) Action Required: Press Square While At Close Range Difficulty Factor: * Description: This is the original Stealth Kill that made Rikimaru famous. It is the easiest Stealth Kill to perform and the short cinematic looks as follows. Rikimaru reaches around the front of the guard with his sword and in one motion slices his throat from end to end. The guard cannot utter a sound and dies very quickly and quietly. <.><.><.><.><.><.> 7.2 CAN OPENER | <.><.><.><.><.><.> Positioning: Attack Enemy from His/Her Right Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This very cool looking Stealth Kill requires you to attack the guard from the right side. The FMV sequence shows Rikimaru positioning the blade on the guard's neck with the handle of the sword facing up. Next he swings around the front of the guard and around his other side while making it appear that he is using a can opening type of technique on his victim. This kill looks very cool. <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> 7.3 BACK STAB AND FINISHING SLASH | <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> Positioning: Attack Enemy From His/Her Left Requirements: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This Stealth Kill is triggered when you attack your enemy from their left-hand side. Executing this Kill treats you to a cutscene that shows Rikimaru thrusting his sword into the enemy's lower back. Then when he pulls his sword out he does it in a way that causes the guard to do a 360 spin. At the end of this spin Rikimaru's blade comes done again slashing the guard from face to stomach. The guard then falls in a dead heap on the ground. <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> 7.4 JUMPING SPINE STABB | <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> Positioning: Behind Intended Victim (Sometimes Jumping from any side) Action Required: Jump + Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: *** Description: This Stealth Kill shows Rikimaru Stabbing the guard in the middle of his back at the end of his jump. Once the blade is stuck in the guard he twists it a full 90 degrees to maximize the victims pain and then yanks it free again. The guard sadly will not be reporting to the news conference. <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> 7.5 GUTTING STEALTH KILL | <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> Positioning: Facing The Enemy From The Front Actions Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This Stealth Kill is executed by attacking your enemy from the front or diagonally from the front. The FMV shows Rikimaru sticking his sword upward into the enemy's lower stomach causing it to jut out of his back. He holds the enemy's head to accommodate the motion. Next he withdraws his sword while pushing the enemy away causing him to fall backwards onto the ground and die. <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> 7.6 SKULL PENETRATOR | <.><.><.><.><.><.><.><.> Positioning: Enemy Must Be On A Slope, Incline or Angled Roof Action Required: Square (R1 can be added) Difficulty Factor: **** Description: This very gruesome Stealth Kill shows Rikimaru springing onto the enemy's shoulders and then sticking his sword through the top of his head until it sticks out under his chin. Then he withdraws the blade and flips backward off the collapsing guard. You get a real sense of Spiderman watching this cutscene take place. <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 8. KANJI OVERVIEW | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> The Kanji system that is set up in the game consists of 9 Japanese symbols at the lower left portion of your screen that can be highlighted as you successfully Stealth Kill enemies. The more Stealth Kills you perform, the more Kanji symbols you'll highlight. When all nine Kanji symbols are filled you will unlock a special new ninja ability. This is represented onscreen by a swirling tornado of light and symbols surrounding your character momentarily followed by a brief explanation of the acquired skill. In this Demo of the game you will only have one Kanji move unlockable. This move is described in detail in the following section. Please note that if you are spotted by or kill the Civilian you will lose all of the filled Kanji symbols, which will force you to start over again from scratch. You start the Demo mission with 6 Kanji symbols highlighted and only a limited amount of enemies to kill so if you lose the highlighted symbols you will not be able to acquire the special Kanji move. It is wise to be stealthy instead of just hacking and slashing your way through the level. Q: What do these Kanji Symbols represent? A: Each symbol of the Kanji represents a power or attribute of the Ninja arts. Below is a translation of the various Kanji symbols. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ KANJI - TRANSLATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RIN - Confront PYO - Soldier THO - Battle/Fight SHA - One/Person KAI - Everybody/Entire JIN - Formation RETSU - Row ZAI - Presence ZEN - Forward These Definitions are merely direct translations and do not represent the true meaning of the "Seal of 9 Characters". The 9 Kanji characters do not have independent definitions. The spell only makes sense when you hear the full sentence as follows: "Nozomeru Hei, tatakau mono, kaijin wo hari, retsu wo tukutte, mae ni ari" Which Means: "Confronting Soldiers, Ones that battle, everybody making a formation, making a row, and is present in front". So in other words, the spell is a warning to the evil spirits that the army of God is nearing, so leave immediately. Credit goes to: Reimaru (Ninja Town) Link: >>> http://www.ashuraonline.com/tenchu/kuji/index.html <<< <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> 8.1 RIKIMARU'S KANJI MOVES | <<<==-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-==>>> Rikimaru has only 1 special Kanji move available to him in this Demo. As mentioned in the "KANJI OVERVIEW" section you will need to fill/highlight your Kanji meter in order to unlock this special ninja ability. The Kanji move you can unlock in the Demo is the "SHOULDER THRUST". <><><><><><><><><><> | SHOULDER THRUST | <><><><><><><><><><> Button Code: Square (x2), L3 Away + Square Difficulty Factor: ** Description: The SHOULDER THRUST move is an ability that allows you to smash your enemy with your shoulder causing them to be thrown back quite a distance. If there is a wall behind then your enemy will hit it with great force and if there is a pit behind then bye-bye bad guy. The key to executing this Kanji move correctly is in being close enough to your enemy when you press L3 Away and Square. If you are too far away Rikimaru might simply perform his heal kick combo. Hitting someone with this thrust will also buy you some valuable time during which you can make a quick getaway or use/select another Item. TIP: If you are having trouble executing this move fluidly then do the Square (x2) part slower. This should help you master this move. <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> 9. WEAPONS / ITEMS OVERVIEW | <<<=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=-*-=>>> There are several Items and Weapons available to you while playing through the Demo level. Below is a detailed description of each one. Weapons and Items are selected or used by highlighting them and then pressing the TRIANGLE button. GRAPPLING HOOK: This Item lets you grapple to rooftops in short order. Simply ++++++++++++++ highlight the Item, aim by using your TRIANGLE button and let her rip. (You can lock on to any area where your aiming icon lights up. TIP: Press "Up" on your D-Pad to instantly highlight your Grappling Hook. IZAYOI SWORD: Rikimaru's standard weapon. (See Section 5 for details) This ++++++++++++ sword can be interchanged with the SPEAR once acquired from the enemy. SPEAR: This weapon can be picked up after you kill the guard who patrols the +++++ South East area of the map. (Just right of your starting point). Once he is dead simply position yourself over his weapon to automatically take it. This weapon can be interchanged with your sword indefinitely. BOW AND ARROW: This weapon can be picked up after you've killed the guard who +++++++++++++ patrols the North West corner. Again simply position yourself over the weapon after he is dead. You will have 3 arrows in your quiver once you have acquired this weapon. Note: You need to compensate height for more distant shots as the bow can only shoot an arrow so far. FLAMING ARROWS: You will have 3 of these in your inventory from the time you ++++++++++++++ start the game. As with the previous arrows you will need to compensate height for distant shots. Also be careful not to set yourself ablaze by releasing it to quickly or shooting it at point blank range. 2 of these arrows will kill any enemy except for the final Boss. The Civilian will not survive one hit. SUPER SHURIKEN: This weapon shoots 8 Shuriken (ninja stars) simultaneously. ++++++++++++++ You cannot aim it and overall this weapon is not too effective nor precise. You start the game with 2 total. It is best used at point blank range to maximize you chances of hitting your victim. STICKY BOMBS: There are two of these hidden in the level. The first one can be ++++++++++++ found on top of the highest roof in a little red box. On your map it is the most North East building. (Two buildings to your left from the starting point) The second one can be found by smashing the light brown barrels in the main courtyard. These are indicated if you pull up your in game map and look in the middle of it. The Item looks like a red throwing star in your inventory. To use it simply aim and throw it at your intended victim and then press "R3" to detonate it when you are ready. POISON RICE: You will have 3 Poison Rice Balls in your inventory during this +++++++++++ Demo level. What it does is cause temporary paralysis to those who consume it. Guards who are unaware of your presence will be drawn to it so you can use this item as an effective luring item. It will only take 5 HP from them. The innocent Civilian (see Walkthrough) will also be lured to it but he will only eat one and it will take 25 HP from him. The dog will die from one of these rice treats but will not credit you with a Stealth Kill and subsequently not grant you a KANJI symbol. CHAMELEON SPELL: You will have 2 of these garments in your inventory. This +++++++++++++++ Item allows you to temporarily wear a disguise that will resemble the garments of the enemy. You will be undetectable during this time period and can use this time to practice the harder Stealth Kills or simply avoid being spotted by the Civilian or enemy guards in your path. Note: The Final Boss will not be fooled by this, nor will the dog. INVISIBILITY: This Item's icon resembles a piece of crumpled white paper and ++++++++++++ can be found in the little red box at the North East wall by the dog. Once activated this Item will make you temporarily invisible to all enemies except for the final Boss. HEALING POTION: Using one of these will restore your health to 100% again. You ++++++++++++++ begin the Demo with 3 of these in your inventory and 3 more can be found in the following spots. Next to the smaller building that overlooks the courtyard you'll see a red box. (2 are located in this box) Inside the courtyard you will find a red drum next to a small house. Break the box next to it to find the last one) TIP: If you need to replenish your health while in the midst of a battle then it is advisable to get to a safe spot first as you will drop the item if you are hit while attempting to take it. Press "Down" on your D-Pad to instantly highlight this Item. <<<==-*-=-=-*-==>>> 10. WALKTHROUGH | <<<==-*-=-=-*-==>>> This section will provide you with a detailed (SPOILERS TOO) Walkthrough of the Demo mission. Points To Note: There are 4 enemy guards in total, 1 dog, 2 Ronin's (In the house) and 1 civilian. After you have killed the 2 Ronin's the Final Boss will appear. You start out with 6 Kanji Symbols highlighted so you'll need to perform three Stealth kills without being spotted to unlock the "SHOULDER THRUST" move. Lastly, if you go to the entrance of the Ronin's house before killing all the enemies they will simply disappear. BEGIN: You will start out in a jungle setting with running water and wildlife sounds in the background. Walk to your left and proceed through the next screen. (You do not have access to any weapons or Items during this portion of the introduction) Once you get to the edge of the waterfall a cutscene will be triggered that shows Rikimaru diving headfirst off this very high waterfall. During his descent he will utter some Japanese dialogue while performing some symbolism with his hand movements. As he dives into the water a few white doves fly by. (Fade To Black) Next you will see your Mission briefing Screen which states the following: "INFILTRATE THE VILLAGE HIDEOUT" - Punish the Ronin's in the Red House - Attack guards without being spotted - Pick up items in small boxes hidden in the village (Fade To Black) Once the actual mission begins you will find yourself on the roof of a small building. If you do not move quickly you will be spotted by two guards down in front of you. (There are an infinite number of ways you can clear the enemies out so I will just give you one path) Immediately crouch when you get control of Rikimaru and roll backwards off the roof. (Fade To Black) A cutscene will show lightning striking a Bell Tower that subsequently catches on fire and then topples over. (Fade To Black) Now that you are on the ground behind the starting building turn left and sneak along the next building until you see the dog in the North East corner of the map. Patiently observe his patrolling pattern and when you are ready, attack and kill him either by using the "R1 + Square" or the "R2, Back + Square" move. If unseen you should have gotten a Kanji symbol. Along the wall in that corner you will see a little red box. Position yourself over it to acquire the "INVISIBILITY" item. Now turn around and look to your right. There is a small shed next to the courtyard perimeter building. You will find another red box next to it which contains 2 "HEALING POTIONS". After you have picked them up peek around the corner on the side of the courtyard. Up ahead you will see a guard (#1) who is walking back and forth along the upper courtyard level. There is another guard behind him who will eventually walk up the slope to guard the field in the South East corner of the map. Observe the movements of the guard and when you are ready, run up behind him and end his life. (Kanji Symbol) Be careful so that the guard down in the courtyard does not see you. Also there is a civilian guy who might spot you if you hang around after killing the guard (#1). After killing him, backpedal to where you killed the dog and use your grappling hook to ascend that tall white building. Up there on the roof you will find another red box which contains a STICKY BOMB. Continue on to the far end of the roof and look ahead. You will see another guard (#2) patrolling the North West corner of the map. This guard is the archer. To the right of him in the courtyard you will see a big house. This is the house where the Ronin's are in. (the civilian wanders up and down between their house and the adjacent shack. Get back down to the ground and observe the archer's movements and when ready, kill him. (Be careful not to get spotted by the civilian) You may want to use the CHAMELEON SPELL or INVISIBILITY just to ensure that you get the last Kanji Symbol, which will then unlock the SHOULDER THRUST move. Once he is dead immediately jump onto the Ronin's house. (Fade To Black) A cutscene will show you two guards inside having a party. One guy is dancing and there is a Geisha lying on the ground not looking too thrilled at being there. (Fade To Black) Stealthily move over to the far side of the roof overlooking the courtyard and you'll spot Guard #3 who is walking back and forth in front of the Ronin's house. Again be careful that you don't get spotted by the Civilian as you kill this guy. (You cannot pick up his sword) Immediately after killing him run into the lower area ahead towards the two tall skinny buildings. Grapple up behind the last building and now walk over to the far side of the roof overlooking the South East field where the last guard (#4) is patrolling. This is the guard who has the spear. Again take your time in observing his pattern and then strike like a snake and finish him off. Position yourself over the spear after he is dead and you will pick it up. The only remaining living being is the civilian at this point so you can decide to let him be or...well, you know. The remaining Items can be found in the courtyard. If you look at your ingame map you will see two barrels in the very middle of the map. Smash these to find a second STICKY BOMB. Right behind that area you'll see a red drum and bird feeder looking thing on top of it. Smash the box to the left of this and you'll find another HEALING POTION. When you are ready go to the entrance to the Ronin's house. (Fade To Black) The cutscene will show them realizing that you are there. They both spring to their feet and one guy says: "What? Intruder!" This is followed by Rikimaru doing a backflip into the courtyard and them pursuing you outside while Geisha takes off. (Fade To Black) There are two ways that you can kill these two Ronin's. By battle or by stealth. If you decide to fight them head on then I would recommend using the "Square(x3), Back + Square" combo as well as the SHOULDER THRUST MOVE. They are really quite easy to defeat and should cause you no serious trouble. (Especially with 6 HEALING POTIONS) If you find this a tough fight then try separating them and fighting them one at a time. If you rather Stealth Kill them then simply run away until they've lost sight of you and then methodically hunt them down like animals. Once you have killed them both the screen will fade to black again and the following cutscene takes place. The Final Boss makes his entry. He has a three-barreled pistol along with a sword. This is the ensuing dialogue: Boss: "Looks like the party is over" Rikimaru: "The party has just begun" Boss: "You make me laugh......Now I must make you cry" (Fade To Black) This battle must be faced head on as the Final Boss cannot be Stealth Killed. By using the "Square (x3), Back and Square" combo along with the SHOULDER THRUST you should make minced meat of him in no time. Be careful of his uppercut slash which will send you flying high up in the air vulnerable to several gunshots. This is his signature move and can be blocked if you press CIRCLE while he is beginning his strike. He will also shout "MY-YEAHA" right before launching this attack. Your FLAMING ARROWS will also toast him up real good. At the end of your administration of pain he will collapse on the ground while grunting and groaning and then he will die. (END OF DEMO -Fade To Black) NOTE: After the Demo ends you will get a code (Up,Down,Right,Left,X,X,X) This code does not work in the Demo. It is presumably a code for the Full Version of the game. <<<=-*-=-*-==-*-=-*-=>>> 11. COOL THINGS TO DO | <<<=-*-=-*-==-*-=-*-=>>> Although this Demo is short there are still a few cool things that you can do to add replay value to this game. +-------------------------+ | 11.1 STICKY BOMB MAYHEM | +-------------------------+ Requirements: Both STICKY BOMB Items (See Items list or Walkthrough for locations) Try experimenting with the STICKY BOMBS in a variety of ways. You can stick both of them on one guard and then cause two explosions to occur on him. (This will constitute as a Stealth Kill) you can also plant them in a particular location and then get all the guards to chase you and when they are over the spot, detonate them and watch 'em go flying. +--------------------------------+ | 11.2 EXPLORE THE RONIN'S HOUSE | +--------------------------------+ Once you have triggered the battle with the two Ronin's simply lure them away from the house and then go back to the front door which will open and allow you entry. You can check out the interior at your leisure. The door automatically closes so no one else can come in...unless you let them that is. Try getting one of the Ronin's attention and lure him to the doorway. It is possible to get him inside and kill him there. (This cannot be done with the Final Boss as the door is locked during the battle) Another trick is to attack the two Ronin's immediately and forcefully. Try to push one of them backwards into the doorway with your relentless attack. He will get stuck behind the closed door. When you have killed the other guy go back and immediately press Square as you enter the front door. It will trigger the "GUTTING" Stealth Kill" and the animation will take place indoors. +-------------------------------+ | 11.3 SEE THE BELL TOWER CRASH | +-------------------------------+ Remember the cutscene that takes place in the beginning of the Demo that shows the Bell Tower being struck by lightning? Well if you act quickly you can see the tower smash into the courtyard. How? As soon as the game starts double jump forward. The cutscene will play and then as soon as you gain control again continue jumping forward. You should be in the area where the 2 Guards are chatting. You will be able to see the Bell Tower collapsing from here. +-----------------------------------------+ | 11.4 LISTEN TO THE GUARDS' CONVERSATION | +-----------------------------------------+ When the Demo game first begins you will notice that there are two guards directly ahead having a conversation. The spear handler will eventually walk up the incline and patrol the field to your left. Immediately After the Bell Tower cutscene ends use your Chameleon Spell and double jump ahead to the guards. I haven't been able to make too much sense of what they speak but perhaps you will. +----------------------------+ | 11.5 UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL | +----------------------------+ While fighting the Final Boss use your "Quick Forward Dash" (R2 +Press L3) move directly at him. It will trigger a mini cutscene of him placing his gun into your stomach and Rikimaru looking up at him with a look of "OH ****" and then you will be shot point blank. It is a cool sight to see though. <<<==-*-=-*-==-*-=-*-==>>> 12. THANKS AND CREDITS | <<<==-*-=-*-==-*-=-*-==>>> Thank you CJAYC for Gamefaqs.com Thank you NEOSEEKER for a great site to host my work. (If you haven't already that is) ------------------------------------------- TENCHU: Stealth Assassins: (Platform: PSX) ------------------------------------------- This is the original TENCHU game that was released back in 1998. Story wise the game takes place one year before the events of TENCHU 3. You only have access to Rikimaru and Ayame in this game but the gameplay and background music make this game a must have for any TENCHU enthusiast. In terms of Stealth Kills you have three distinct ones per character. I also wrote a Stealth Kill FAQ for this game so if you wish to read it you can simply copy and paste the link below into your browser: >>> http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/tenchu_stealth_kill.txt <<< ---------------------------------------- TENCHU 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins (Platform: PSX) ---------------------------------------- Story wise TENCHU 2 is a prequel to TENCHU 1 and includes a whopping seven Stealth Kills per character. There are also three characters available to play with and many more missions including an incredible Mission Editor. Make sure you check JDRAKE's (A.K.A RIKI MARU) Stealth Kill FAQ for this game.
