The basic things a motor- cycle simulation needs are excellent motorcycle physics, and this game is surely not bad at all in that matter. Excellent graphics and many real bikes and 6 categories plus sidecars, as well as many videos and extras, visual improvements for your bikes and a 1 to 1 copy of the real Island of Man racetrack (this has been checked and aproved to me by at least 5 people who actually have been, lived, or even participated there)! What else can a gamer ask for?:D If you're still not convinced why it is the best game, let's take the best PS2 bike games and compare them to TT: -MotoGP4: great graphics and fully licensed plus all world race tracks available, but the physique engine is ridiculous, ruining the game -MotoGP3: better physique engine but still it's nothing compared to the one of TT. Same graphics. -Riding Spirits: The career mode is excellent, one of the best bike game concepts. There are supermotos and mega scooters too, plus a great career mode. Still the graphics and the animations are ridiculous and the physique is silly too, making the game very boring. -Suzuki Racing: You can't be serious :P -Midnight Club3: Ok there are some bikes but come on this isn't a bikes game. Besides that, the physique engine is the worst of all games (excluding Suzuki Racing game) And besides those there is no other bikes racing simulation, and that makes TT the best bike simulator out there. Too bad it's underrated... -------- 5)Review -------- Ok heres a small review by me for those who intend to buy it -Graphics 7.6/10 Good but could be better. Especially the colors of the bikes could be better as well as the animation of the rider when falling of the bike. I am aware that I ask too much but I have played MotoGP4 lately and compared to that one, TT is looking quite old. -Music 4.9/10 The worst part of the game. Only about 10 tracks which are really boring and become really annoying after you have heard them about 100 times each. -Gameplay: since this gameplay is far too complex I'll list some sub-categories -Physics: 9.1/10 Absolute awesome physics. They would get 10 but there is room for improvement. Of course compared to MotoGP4 the physics are about 3 times beter, but I will only give it a 10 when its extremely close to reality. (Moto GP 4 would get only about 4-5 in this section) -Controlls: 8.3/10 Well neither better nor worse controlls than any other simulation game. The only thing I do not like is the X (throttle) button which is...a button and not a stick, and that means that it is quite impossible to control the throttle like you should be able to do in a realistic bike simulation. Throttle control means bike control. -Track design: 10/10 Well its the Island of Man TT track 1 to 1 transfered to your screen folks! -Variety of tracks: 7.2/10 Well, even though the whole track of TT is huge, the tracks in the game tend to repeat over and over, not to mention the large number of times which you have to repeat the same stage until you pass it. Frustating... -Difficulty stars: 4.2/5, very hard The game IS very hard no matter which difficulty you use. Of course it's even harder when playing on expert difficulty, but still I recommend playing every race on that difficulty setting because I believe this difficulty setting is perfect for such a realistic racing game. Still, the game is much too difficult as it should be, and hopefully they will make the 2nd game easier :D -Replayability Well I wont give any grades here because this term is not right for this game. There are MANY challenges and you have to play all stages more then one time so you HAVE to play the game ''through'' at least 2 times before unlocking most things. If you want to unlock everything including Mad Sunday you will have to play the game ''through'' at least 10 times :) Also if you really like bikes you WILL race a track or two once in a while, even if you have finished the game through and unlocked everything ;) General: 8.9/10 A really fantastic game which isnt perfect but could become in the future. Do not get this wrong, I would give Moto Gp4 a 4.5 so you can imagine this is a great game. If you like bikes you HAVE to buy this game ;) And once again don't get me wrong about moto gp 4, its just that it is a really BAD bike simulation, especially if you know how bikes behave and/or you've played TT. And I wouldn't really mind about that game if it wouldnt be so damn popular. TT is WAY better but WAY more underrated. That's why I compare those two games all the time, and of course prefer TT. It is like comparing fifa 2001 with pro evolution soccer 1. The first one was a best seller but the second one was WAY better. ------------------------------------ 6)What should be changed in the game ------------------------------------ Well I actually liked almost anything! The speed, the bikes, the track, the physics, the graphics, everything was excellent! Still there is room for improvement. The thing I missed most was an interesting career mode, which would make the game MUCH more interesting. For example, they could add MANY more bikes and performance improvements as well as visual improvements (besides the few available) which could be bought by the rider and allpied to your own bike afterwards in your own garage, with money gained by winning races. The graphics could be slightly better as well, and the colors of the bikes should be more realistic. The physique engine is great but something that annoyed me were the wheelies which caused the rider to fall down way before he should actually fall from the bike in real life, and a general improvement of the engine would be good. And last but not least, the mega boost modus was cool but the physics changed dramatically making the game more an arcade racing game than a simulation. That should be changed. And not to forget, a STUNT modus would be absolute fantastic, where you could take some customized superbikes and do everything you tried to do in the race mode and couldn't do, like huge wheelies, turning stoppies and other things they do at Mad Sunday :P And, not to forget, the lame music should be better next time as well! ;) Oh yes, the AI should be changed as well. It is ridiculusly hard to win in most stages. That can be really frustating. And if you have something to add or to suggest to jester send them an email to: ttideas@jesterinteractive.com ---------- 7)Controls ---------- X- throttle O- look backwards ^- change view []- rear brake R2- front break L2- rear brake L1- gear down R1- gear up R3- auto pilot (when available) L3- Boost/Mega boost (when available) Left analog stick: turning-cornering (left-right), weight shift (fwd-bwd) ------- 8)Bikes ------- 125: Small bikes with relatively good braking and accelaration abillity due to the small weight, but they do many unwanted wheelies and dont have great max speeds (around 180km/h max) -Honda RS125R (comes in two versions) -Yamaha TZ 125 -Honda RS125R (Lloyds TSB) Notes: the TSB edition is the best 125 followed by the TZ. 250: Slightly heavier bikes with better engines and good all-around performance. Better controll more horsepower and great high speeds. -Yamaha TZ250 -Honda RS250R -Honda RS250R (Chris Palmer's) Notes: Chris Palmer's bike is much better than the rest of course. 400: The slowest bikes in the game, they have a ridiculous acceleration, but they've got a good top speed. Very easy to controll due to the low speeds. -Kawasaki ZXR 400 -Honda VFR NC30 -Honda CBR 400RR -Honda CBR 400RR (R. Britton's) -Honda RVF RR NC35 -Yamaha FZR 400 Notes: You just have to love the RVF and VFR rear systems :) Besides that, this is the only class where medium gear ratio would make sence... (due to low acceleration) 600: Very well balanced bikes, not too much power but enough power to ride at high speeds. They have a decent acceleration without making unwanted wheelies normaly. -Triumph Daytona 600 TT -Suzuki GSXR 600 K2 -Triumph Daytona 600 TT (A. Valmoto's) -Honda CBR 600RR -Kawasaki ZX6R (2 editions) -Suzuki GSXR 600 K2 (S. Harris') -Yamaha YZF R6 03' Notes: The R6, ZX6R and GSXR racing editions are the best. They're pretty much the same so choose wichever you prefer. 750: Very good bikes, heavier than the 600's but more powerful too. -Honda RVF RC45 -Kawasaki ZX7R -Suzuki GSXR 750 K2 -Yamaha YZF R7 Notes: GSXR750 is the best one. Still, the RVF is really cool! 1000: The master class, absolute performance and excellent power/weight ratio. Extreme top speeds and acceleration but they're very hard to control. -Suzuki GSXR 1000 (two editions, K2, K3 and TAS) -Aprilia RSV Mille Factory -Benelli Tornado TRE 900 -Monster Mob 998 -Honda CBR 1000RR -Honda VTR 1000 SP-1 -Honda VTR 1000 SP-2 -Yamaha R1 (comes in 4 editions: 03', 04', Speedfreaks, J.Griffiths) -Kawasaki ZX10R Notes: I really love the two Italians but they are much weaker than the rest. The GSXR TAS is the strongest and most difficult to controll in the game. Monster Mob IS a real bike, its the legendary Ducati 998 in a moster mob package :D . Shane Byrne won the British Superbikes Championship with it too. (thanks to Rob M for this info) Honda SP-2 is one of the best bikes in the game and much better than SP-1. I prefer choosing this one instead of the TAS because its power is much easier to controll and use. Sidecars : Fast bikes with sidecars which are extremely hard to maneuver. Personally I don't like them much. -Honda sidecar (3 editions) -Yamaha sidecar (3 editions) -Kawasaki sidecar (3 editions) Notes: All 9 sidecars are exactly the same, the only thing that differs are the graphics and colors. ------------ 9)Game modes ------------ 1)Arcade: The arcade modes are: -Alpinestars southern 100 (125->Sidecars) -Avon Castletown Cup (125->Sidecars) -Duke Tourist Trophy (125->Sidecars) -Breil Time Attack (125->1000) -Mad Sunday (only 1000's with Boost) 2)Challenge The challenges are: -Castrol Master Class (125->Sidecars) -Dunlop Novice Cup (125->Sidecars) -Southern 100 (125->Sidecars) -Men + Motors Intermediate Trophy (125->Sidecars) -Ohlins Castletown Road Race (125->Sidecars) -Arai Expert Gold Cup (125->Sidecars) -Manx GP (Ultra Lightweight, Lightweight, Junior, Senior) -Isle of Man TT (Sidecar A+B, Ultra Lw, Production 600/1000, Junior, Senior,F1) -Shoei Pro Match Races (6 different rider challenges) -Bidgestone Checkpoint (6 different rider challenges) -King of Mountain (1 race) 2Player The stages are: -Alpinestars southern 100 (125->Sidecars) -Avon Castletown Cup (125->Sidecars) -Duke Tourist Trophy (125->Sidecars) -Mad Sunday (only 1000's with Boost-no time limit) ------------------------ 10)Tips, Tricks n' Hints ------------------------ Ok since this game has got an absolute realistic physics engine, almost everything that applies to real bike riding applies to this game as well. With that said, lets start by setting up your bike: -----Set up your bike before the race (and I don't mean visual improvements) 1) Always have enough gasoline. The tank empties VERY slowly (with a full tank you could race over 1 hour in real time, that would be 2 times the track of TT) but still don't go with 1-2 L expecting that the gasoline wont finish. Also, more gasoline means more weight, thus slowing the decceleration of the bike and decreasing acceleration, but since the weight of the tank is forward, the stability is increased when breaking, and wheelies are being avoided much easier. I suggest almost full tanks in bikes that tend to make wheelies, and less gasoline on 400cc and 750cc bikes if the track is smaller. ***NOTE*********** Ive been noticed by pablo that ''in senior & f1 mode, one should do 3&4 laps of the circuit, but I get out of gas finishing the second lap. I try to get to pit lane, where my team appears to do things in my bike, but they really do nothing. I´ve read what u wrote about to do 4 laps to the circuit with 1 tank and don't know what is hapening to me, I can charge 21 litres in the tank and I´ve tried to do the challenge with 3 or 4 different bikes'' Answer: It depends on with what bike you're racing with. If you race with a 1000cc superbike than yes the gasoline will finish after 2 full laps. So, the only thing you can do is going to the pits and waiting till the crew fixes the bike and fills your tank. If you stay longer at the pits and move to the right position they WILL fill up the tank. ******NOTE******* 2) Use Medium tyres or soft ones if the track is small (in challenges). That improves braking and cornering. You could use hard tyres, but only if the track is really HUGE like a whole TT round. Use soft tyres most times 3) If the Track's got long straights use low pressure. That improves stability in high speeds but is bad for braking. Medium pressure is the best option for most tracks, and high pressure is ok too. 4) Suspension should be on medium most times, or some times on soft if you can't stay in an ideal line. You should use hard only if you are very good and only if the road is quite straight. 5) Gear ratio should be most times on high. That improves high speed and helps avoiding wheelies, making the control of the bike much easier. Medium and low gear ratios are useless, except for some stages in the 400cc class with many corners. (400cc have very low acceleration, so they can use some more acc) -----Ok, now lets go to some basic riding tips: 6) NEVER brake while cornering, and especially NO front breaks when cornering. ***NOTE*** >-from Mark Cobles-< You also say NEVER brake whilst in a turn. Well that's not true, I race bikes for real and you CAN carry brake into a turn or touch the brakes in certain circumstances in a turn. Same on TT superbikes although the game is less forgiving than real life in this respect. There are 2 situations where FRONT brake may be used when cornering a bike. 1. When you TRAIL the front brake into the turn. This occurs when you are approaching a turn with too much speed and you have the front brake on while turning into the corner. This means you are not taking the optimal line but you are still using the front on the way into the turn. 2. Braking mid-corner. This may have to be used to avoid running into another rider or if you have carried too much speed through the turn. >-Author's Comment-< If you weren't fast enough or started braking too late, you may be with some extra speed in the corner, thus not being able to take a good line. In this situation it is logical to keep braking in the corner till you get the right speed to start cornering the bike. In other situations the REAR brake (NEVER a front break) can help a bit to avoid losing traction of the rear wheel, but only in very small and precise amounts. So you *can* do it, but assuming you got a good line, you should *not* do it. ***END OF NOTE*** 7) Never press full throttle while cornering. This will cause a high siding or a slip of the rear wheel. You should especially avoid doing this while riding 1000ccSuperbikes. Before the corner, brake a lot, then while in the corner don't brake or accelerate, and at the middle towards top of the corner accelerate progressively. But still While cornering, don't let go off the throttle. If you leave the throttle completely while cornered you will fall. 8) When you start the race don't press the throttle fully. This will cause the rear wheel to spin or make a wheelie (which could easilly result to a crash) 9) Wheelies are cool but avoid them as much as possible because they only make you lose time and they can easily result to a crash. Sometimes a wheelie is unavoidable but still try to lower the front wheel as soon as possible by leaving the throttle and shifting weight forward until the front wheel touches the ground ***Note from Ian Stratford about wheelies**** For the fastest start, hold full throttle, lean forward fully, and when you start to wheelie tap the back brake to control the power to the back wheel. This means you can get the maximum power possible down and helps smooth the awesome power of some of the big capacity bikes. You can use this technique when accelerating over bumps and out of slow corners to control wheelies. *******End of Note************ This hasn't been checked out by me so I don't know if it works. Still allow me to disagree slightly because in real life the rear brake can lower the front wheel (by shifting the weight of the motorcycle forward) but still you lose some time, so I'm not sure if this is the best way. Anyways, it may be usefull so try it ;) 10) ALWAYS have the weight shifted to the front (that means keep pressing the left analog stick constantly forward). This will avoid wheelies, help you making good starts, increase acceleration and top speed. The Easy difficulty setting forces the rider automatically to be constantly leaned forward. Exception: breaking (tip6) 11)If you break, break with BOTH breaks (first whith the front and half a second later with the rear) and shift your weight backwards so the braking doesn't result in a stoppie (and a sure crash afterwards) 12) Never hit on walls, houses etc if you can avoid it by going slower, braking more or turning tighter. You lose WAY too much time by hitting a wall and falling down. Better take a slower turn than risking crashing on a wall, especially when you're leading. -----Now some general tips for the game 12) Watch the line of the bikes in front of you. Brake when they brake and turn when they turn. Later on you will be able to find your own line but until then learn from the computer opponents, they usually take the ideal line. 13) When you're leading try to close the opponents behind you so they cannot pass you. This even includes braking later or sooner to block other bikes. If youre nasty try breaking later when someone else is leading so you can fall on his bike ruining his line or even crashing him. 14) Most times you will fail to succeed the challenge, but don't get angry. Just study the track. Learn when and where you have to break and how much you can press the throttle. If you study the track you will succeed eventually and later on you will surely race that part of the track again, so if you have learned how to finish that part of the track properly, later on you will find most tracks much easier. Most challenges need about 4-5 times to be memorized and only then they can be passed. The AI is much too good. 15) Practice a lot with your bike in single player arcade practice mode, so you can learn how the bike feels and turns. Try different settings for your bike, try making some wheelies and stoppies, crazy cornering and high sidings to see how it works. This will make you better in controlling your bike. 16) If you cant get past some stages use the mega boost or boost cheat. That way you can win almost every race easily and unlock many things (and NEVER do the unlock cheats. Unlock everything yourself!) Auto pilot cheat sucks don't use it! Especially if you use auto pilot with boost or mega boost u will crash all the time... xD -------------------- 11)Funny things 2 do -------------------- First of all ''funny'' is a subjective term. That means that some people may think these things are not funny at all, so if you think that those things aren't funny you are one of those people :D . Anyways here are some things you can do if you're bored of the tiresome racing. 1)While you are not moving hold R2 and then press X. This will make a burnout. After that you can do 2 things. Continue holding down X, pressing the left analog right or left and releasing R2. This will make a rolling burnout. Also you could release R2, continue pressing X and pressing first left then right the left analog, and continue pressing left and right. This will make a rolling sliding burnout for about 3-5 secs and then let you go straight or result in to a fall from the bike. For better results try pressing the L3 button to enable boost or mega boost, if you have enabled them, before doing the tricks. This will make the burnouts much faster and funnier. 2) Make huge and long stoppies while being at 250-300km/h. This is absolute cool. Also try making stoppies while you are 1st and just some meters away from the finishing line. This will result to a major kick-ass finishing (only do this when you are first with a distance of minimum 5 secs from the 2nd guy). Also try doing a stoppie by pressing R2 until you fall down while being at high speed and near the finishing line. This way your rider will crash and the bike will pass the line with summersaults. 3) Whlie being still hold [] and afterwards X. This will make some very funny things with the bike. Try doing this and pressing left or right fully, and the bike will make a cornering of 70-80 degrees without moving! This is absolutely cool but not realistic at all of course. Also try shifting your weight forward-backward after you've reached 70-90km/h with this trick. This tricks the physics engine and makes some really funny things. 4)take soft tyres and put low pressure in them. Then make a rolling burnout for about 5 mins. This will destroy your rear tyre completely. Afterwards try cornering or braking :D ! (you can see when your rear tyre is destroyed by looking to the lower left of the screen where the green bike is. If the tyre turns red it means it cant be used anymore) 5) Just try to fall as many times as you can. After a while the whole bike turns slowly to black until it becomes spotted and afterwards pitch black. ------------------------------- 12)Cheats ------------------------------- Like I said before, don't use cheats, it sucks. The only cheat you could use is the boost or mega boost cheats, and only in case you cant win a race no matter what you try. That way you'll be much faster and have better chances to win the race. A)The Isle of Man is technically a country in its own right having had their own government for the last 1000 years. It can be found in the Irish Sea, between the UK and Ireland. Q)Is it an real, official championship? A) Yes it is. The TT started in 1907, and is the biggest and best road race in the world, but unlike other races, most of the competitors are doing it for the love of it, and not as a career. Q)Is this race really dangerous? A) Yes it is a very dangerous race and there have been many injuries and even deaths. There are many deaths at the isle of man tt, and I've been told that there have been over 100 deaths altogether.. So you can see its quite dangerous and risky to participate there... I guess you've noticed that too after crashing at least 100 times ''lethaly'' during the game 0.o Its said that not even a year has gone past where someone hasn’t died during the TT, but it isn’t only riders who die, sometimes spectators and marshals are also involved in fatal accidents. Q) Are there favorite and less favorite riders in the TT island of man race? A) Famous bikers who are connected to the TT include Carl Fogerty who held the lap record in the early 90’s. Barry Sheene is one of the few racers who are disliked on the island, because of his oppinions about the championship, that it should be banned and is too dangerous. Q)Why isnt it banned? A)The TT isn’t a race like MotoGP because you are racing against the clock, not against another rider. Many reviewers have not understood this which is one reason why the reviews have not all been very good. That is one reason. The other reason is that it is a mayor spectacle for all passionate lovers of motorcycles. Not to forget that island of man is practically ''living'' for and because of the TT race. It may be dangerous but still the drivers are absolutely aware of the dangers of the race. It's their own decision and responcibility whether they race or not. Q) What is Mad Sunday? A) Mad Sunday is the Sunday between the 2 weeks of the TT championship, and its a show, not a race. People do all crazy stuff there with or without bikes and its like a showdown between the races. In the game it's a weird mode with 1000cc Superbikes with Nitro and traffic on the road, but there is no such race in reality. Comment by Dave Kingston about Mad sunday: ''Mad Sunday takes place on the Sunday between the 2 weeks (Practice & Race Weeks)of the TT not the last, in fact a lot of people leave after the programmed last race on Saturday, and sometimes miss it if it has had to be postponed due to weather(like this year). Although not a race, what happens is that the roads are closed to traffic between Ramsay Hairpin and just before Kates Cottage (over the mountain) and the public are at liberty to go mad in one direction, no speed limits, no fines for stunts etc.'' Q) Can you disable the time limit at Mad Sunday? A) As far as I know this is not possible. Still, I'm not very sure about that. Anyways, if you want to you can always play 2-player Mad Sunday, where time is disabled. You dont even need 2 controllers to do this, just unplug and plug the 1st controller to the second slot when you're choosing bikes. The downside is that the screen is split, but that's the only -known- way. --------------------- 14)Update Info-Wanted --------------------- For now, this is the last version of this FAQ and it will not be updated, at least not until I get some email with ideas or notes about updates of this faq.
