You are one of three space fishermen that go out and find these space fish and reel them in. Bright cartoony graphics, simple and fun game play await. As you progress you will gain new lures that will allow you to catch new fish and the cycle continues. Throw in a few boss fish and some other events and you get (what was for me) a fun game. If the idea of searching out and fishing weird creatures in strange locales with simple controls doesn't appeal to you, then maybe this game isn't for you. 2) Controls & Game Mechanics Menu Controls In the different locales you can move your cursor to the nearest character you can interact with and cycle with the D-pad. Using the left stick you can move freely and interact with other objects (Video screens etc.) and find hidden items (bonus tickets). Circle will select, and interact, as well as move the dialogue on, X will back out of menus. Triangle will open the option menu that will allow you to move to different areas and access status and item menus. Fishing Once you have traveled to a fishing spot your character will be floating in front of you with arrows pointing in the directions you can move. Press circle to prepare your fishing rod and a targeting cursor will appear. Pressing circle or the right analogue controller will cast in the targeted area (assuming that it is a castable body of water) then your radar screen will appear in the center of the screen. With the change you will see your selected lure with an arrow by it showing you how to move the lure to get the best effect. The bar meter to the right of the radar shows how attractive the lure is to the fish, jiggle it as directed to increase the temptation. There are different types of radar but in general you will be able to see your lure and blips representing the fish around you. How fast the blips pulse and how they react to your lure will give you clues as to what you are fishing and if the lure you are using is right for the job. Pressing triangle at any time (except during a battle with a fish) will open the menu allowing you access to lure selection, items, movement, and status screens. Fish Battle Once you find a fish that likes your lure you will see a yellow ripple extend from the lure and your controller will vibrate, when this happens quickly press circle or depress the right stick and you will try to hook the fish. If successful your radar will disappear and the fish will burst out of the water and its name will be displayed. If you're not interested in that fish and you're quick enough you can press X to release the fish, it will be too late after the battle has begun. When you begin the battle with the fish you will use the left stick to build up your attack meter and the right to reel it in. The left stick should be pressed in the opposite direction as the fish is moving, if you don't keep up then your line will turn yellow then red then break, tracking the fishes movement will heal the line (on rare occasion the fish might escape with your lure, in that case you can buy a replacement at the station fishing store). On the right hand side of the screen you will see a meter showing the distance you have to reel the fish in, once you have it all the way reeled in you will see a flashing red dialogue box and you will make the catch by pressing circle or the right stick. You will spin the right stick in a circular motion to reel the fish in (either direction is ok). Be sure to move the stick in a full circle as cutting corners will slow you down a lot. On occasion the fish will try and break free from your line, when this happens some arrows will appear on the screen and you will have to follow their movement with both sticks until the fish is done (attacking during these times will speed up the process) As you follow the directions of the fish attacks and push the left stick in the opposite direction as the fish's movement during normal times your attack meter will slowly build (located at the top right of the screen). Once you have built up 3 attack circles you will be able to do a successful attack by pressing circle or the right stick. Failing to track the fish's movement with the left stick or not being able to keep up with the fish's attacks will lower your attack meter. If you build the meter all the way you will do a much more powerful attack. Some fishes will attack you directly with a projectile or ramming attack, defend yourself with a well timed shield activated with the triangle button. Some fish may try to escape in this case the fish icon on the right hand side will turn yellow and the fish will gain distance or slow your reeling until you stun it or it stops running. You also can buy or find one-shot batteries that will allow you to shock the space fish. There are three sizes and different rods carry different amounts and kinds. Press L1 & L2 to cycle through the available sizes and square to activate. These are just a useful helper for when you mess up and are about to loose the fish, but not worth buying. L2 is a direct shortcut to the item menu and R2 opens the lure menu. You can pause the game during a battle by pressing start. Each level presents you with a task of getting a specific fish. The people in the station will give you hints of where they are located and what lures you will need to fish. Once you get the "Nushi"(The "Big One") you will move on to the next level and open up a new set of planets. The final levels have you returning to previous levels to get fish that were previously un-fishable. Selling fish at the station (your box holds up to 50) will be your main source of income. You can then spend your money buying new rods, radar, items, etc. At any time you can switch characters by talking to the receptionist in the lobby all progress (radar powerups, and experience powerups will be transferred to all three characters so there is no penalty for changing in those areas). The girl is the easiest to play, she has the best control and will rarely let a fish go. The diver guy is for experts and has weak control but has the strongest attacks. The kid that looks like a Ren & Stimpy character is a balance between the two. ********** II NUTS & BOLTS ********** 3) Fish Types There are six types of fish in the game: Junk, Minimum, Devil, Shell, Beast, Speeder, and Animal. Each has likes and dislikes when eating other fish. The matrix goes something like this: Junk likes anything except Devil. Minimum loves Devil and likes Junk Devil loves Beast & Junk Shell loves Minimum and likes Devil Beat likes Speeder Speeder loves Animal and likes Shell Animal loves Shell So match up the lures to the fish you want and you should get results, there are however exceptions to the rule. 4) Lures Every time you catch a new fish you get a new lure that mimics that type of fish (with the exception of Nushi). Each fish has a level as well. The basic rule is this; a lure can catch fish of the same level and one level above. So a level D lure could catch other D fish and C level fish. There are tons of exceptions to this rule as the lures get more specialized to catch certain fish so the best thing to do is to try different lures if one doesn't seem to be doing the trick. There are also special golden lures that are not in the form of the fish you catch. They are formed in the shape of characters and have ranks E to S just like the other lures. All kinds of fish love special lures and a special lure will catch fish for all levels including and under its own. Special lures also have the added benefit of increasing the chance of getting an item from fish that give items. Special lures are gained through special events or by winning certain competitions. 5) Items There are a variety of items to be had in the game, most of which are purchasable in the store or at a burger shop. The capsules that have a picture of a creature on them are attraction capsules that when used increase you chances of fishing that kind of fish while they are in effect. The Food that you buy at the burger shop will boost your character's stats while they are in effect. The colored bottles have different effects; the green and blue ones attract bigger fish, the red ones will act as repellants helping you to fish what you want when another fish keeps interfering. 6) Planet List Here is a list of the planets and what you can find. The first part is romaji for the katakana names, the name in the parenthesis is an English description, it's not the official name but you should get the idea. Finally the type and level is listed. There are fishing competitions, fishing battles with rivals, bingo contests, etc. Below is a description of the events and strategies for winning. Kujihamaguri - lucky Clams. After you have progressed a few levels in the game, the Kid's Pond poster in the lobby will change to a poster advertising the release of the Kujihamaguri. Fish for the Kuji with a minimum type E lure. Every time you catch one you get a prize, there are 16 different figures to collect, and three versions of each, normal, silver, and gold, for a total of 48 figures. You can view your collection from the status menu. Number tag Ray - This is less an event but another thing you can collect, In the kids pond you can fish for them and every time you catch one you will add it's number to your collection 1-99. Fish for them with a devil or junk type E lure. You can view your collection from the status menu. Big Pond Fishing competitions - Check the posters or talk to people in the lobby to find out about these competitions. The poster will give you all the information you need, how much it costs, what the game fish will be, and what the prize will be. (reading Japanese helps here but if you can identify a few Katakana then you should be able to decode the fish type as it will be written in a different color, the prize type can be deciphered by looking to see if there is an amount of money on the poster or not (besides the small competition entrance fee). If not then the prize will be a character lure. These competitions are about fishing the target fish (their fishing points have not changed) and getting the biggest one. You have a time limit but have plenty of time. Its luck but you can improve your chances by using the big fish item. At the bottom of the screen you will (From left to right) your current biggest fish, the time remaining, and the current biggest fish. After the time is up you will see the ranking and receive your prize if you won. Kid's Pond Bingo - Keep your eye on the posters in the lobby. Eventually the Kid's pond will start a bingo game, there are three different sized cards and you fill in the spaces by catching Number tag Rays. Each card has a different limit of how many rays you can fish before ending the game, and each card has a different special lure prize. Fishing Battles - There are two kinds: One for biggest fish and one for the most catches. You can trigger a battle with Lizard by finding him at the deep-space burger, then going to the storm planet, if you win he will tell you what lure you need to get the "Big one" for that level. Lizard will be powered up from the burger so it's a hard battle, stay away from the big stuff and just go after little, easy to catch space fish. The Cat fisher also challenges you at Planet BonBoon, it's a race for the bigger fish so go after the fish that looks like an alligator and you should win without trouble. You get nothing for winning. After you beat the game a space pirate may show up, he'll talk for a while ask you a question (either answer does the same thing) then give you a special lure. The way the characters talk it seems like he showed up earlier in the game to cause trouble but I never encounter him. 8) Walkthrough Here is a list of the lure progression order and your goals. For locations of fish check the planet list. [Locations of fish on a specific planet is contained in brackets] Stage 1 You're going to have to fish for a Fugukoputa (Helicopter-Blowfish) in this level. All the action takes place at the big pond. Lure Progression: You start with the Gesso (purple bucktoothed work) Use it to catch the Asarigaeru (frog clam) [fish close to the docks] Use that to catch a Kokekko (roster fish) Use that to catch a Fugukoputa (Helicopter Blowfish) [deep part of big pond] Stage 2 Time to go after the Viking Head (Animal), your first "Nushi"he waits on Kyaniosu. Lure Progression: Again start with the Gesso and get a Besuborutako (Baseball Octopus) Use it to get a Denchikurage (Battery Jellyfish) Use it to get an Ichigozerifisshu (Strawberry Jell-O fish) Use it to get a Kanibogu 2go (Craborg mark2) [fish on Entoransu in the deep moving water straight out from the packman shaped pool on the roof of the building in the foreground] Use it to get the Viking Head fish [fish by the strangely colored mushroom shaped rocks.] Stage 3 Now go for the Sukurappa (Junk) on Planet Sukurappe. Lure Progression: Use the Ichigozerifisshu (Strawberry Jell-O fish) to get the Honi (Honey fish). Use it to get a Sekushimomomanbo (Sexy Peach Sun fish) [Look on Piramisu where the water is moving to the right of one of the city islands] Use it to get the Sukurappa [fish at the point where the water is black with the two pipes] Stage 4 Now you are going after the Royal Starfish (Beast) on Kureitan. Lure Progression: Use the Sexy Peach Sun fish to get a Soccer ball fish Use it to get a Kyaputen Kurage (Captain Jellyfish) Use it to get a Fujitsubo oyakata (fat barnacle with a wig) Use it to get a Doraggukajiki (drag race fish) Use it to get the Royal Starfish [it's that thing that looks like a space station on the right edge of the Kureitan map] Stage 5 Enzo's (the Navigator) kid wants a sneaker fish (Junk A), go back to the scrap planet and get one for him. (Be sure not to sell it before meeting with Enzo at the spaceport) Once you do he should give up the bottle and take you where you want to go. Your new target is the Plandon (Devil) located in the depths of Yugudora. Use the King Space Empty Can lure to get the Plandon [Proceed to the bottom of the Yugudora map and fish at the base of the flower] Stage 6 Time to get the final Nushi of the dreaded 5, the Bone Lobster (Shell) on BonBon. Use the Crystal Coral lure to get the Bone Lobster [Proceed to the point of the Bonbon map where there is a big bone head on the right side of the screen and fish near it] Stage 7 New Nushi are popping up everywhere! First go after the Egypt King (Minimum) on Piramisu, and then go after the Armor Fish on Robotania. Use the Super Giant Squid lure to get the Egypt King [Look for the pyramid with a red light on top and fish there] Use the Fire Dance Penguin lure to get the Armor Fish [Proceed to the Robotania map and fish at the base of the submerged temple] Stage 8 Get Enzo the Drag Fish V6 he needs to battle the gravity of the black hole then go after the God Serpent. Fish Anywhere with the Joker Lure to release the God Serpent. For its first form only attack when the egg is blue. When it comes out of the egg beware a hard to defend attack that starts as a bunch of sparkles on the screen. When you see it coming block early so you can block in time for the second one. Stage X After you finish stage 8 you can go back and collect all lures, when you do there will be a special movie for you in the lobby by talking to the monja there. I have yet to collect all the Number Rays, anyone do it? Anything happen? Let me know. I also have yet to collect all the Prizes from the Lucky Clams, anyone do it? Anything happen? Let me know. X) Version History v.1.00 - 11/11/02 - Update, full fish list complete as well as a walkthrough with a few holes concerning Enzo. Not much left to do. v.0.04 - 11/08/02 - Submitted to Gamefaqs, this should be enough to get most people on track as well as relieve some of the frustration that people may feel from not being able to figure out what that last fish that they can't get is. Only levels 1-4 but if people want the rest I'll include it until then... v.0.04 - 11/07/02 - More progress on the planet fish list. v.0.04 - 11/06/02 - Started the FAQ in a few days I should have walkthroughs for the first 4 levels and the basics for the rest. Filling out the fish list is going to be a pain in the butt so maybe I'll just leave it blank pending demand. Z) Credits This FAQ was created by me, as (judging by the outturn on the boards) I and two other people are the only ones who think this game is fun. Legal Info: If you want to post this FAQ on your site, ask me, I'll most likely say yes. This Guide is for people who want to use it. If this FAQ helps someone create a better FAQ for SF then great, feel free to use this material. Just give credit where it's due. (C)2002 Mike Maraldo.
