There is a Wallsplat Glitch Video on the internet which shows Raphael glitched by walking upside down, then Mermet de Vec was preformed. The way Raphael was positioned, it was said that it looked as if he was sucking someones blood from their neck. For someone who knows Raphael well, you could clearly see the stance and could recognize it. I find that a good thing. - Took away Double-Handed Press, which was a Guard Break. I used to connect this move with like, half of my assualts. Sadly, its of no more. - Retreat Step turned into Preparation Parry. Anothing good thing. Does same thing but newer version gives Guard Impact to Low Horizontal Attacks. - He got crazy. His cool, unemotional demeanor created many enemies, but his quick and precise decision-making and execution skills solidified the foundation of his family amongst the nobles. Unfortunately, Raphael was cast out one day when he made a critical mistake. Raphael hid himself in an impoverished town to escape from his pursuers. There he met a little girl named Amy, who hid the weakened Raphael from his enemies. For the little girl, helping Raphael was only a simple deed motivated out of spite for the soldiers. For Raphael, however, it marked the first time he owed his life to someone else. He felt emotions that he had never experienced before, and Amy became an irreplaceable presence in Raphael's life. Convinced that the chaos of the war was no place to live a meaningful life. Raphael took Amy and left the poverty--stricken town. But even with the new surroundings, he could not get Amy to open her heart to the world. One day, in the library of the mansion he acquired under dark pretenses, Raphael found a letter with references to the Evil Seed. It wasn't long before he made the connection between Evil Seed and Soul Edge. What if such a sword were thrust into the hands of the pathetic nobles? It would all be worth it if the petty, war-mongering nobles could be eliminated to secure a meaningful future for Amy. But in order to accomplish his goal, Raphael needed Soul Edge; he was determined to obtain the sword by any means necessary. A grand, insane plan was brewing in his mind--all for the sake of a young girl. =============================================================================== === Soul Calibur III Profile =============================================== =============================================================================== In his quest for Soul Edge, Raphael faced off against Nightmare in the land of Ostrheinsburg, but lost the fight. Before losing consciousness, Raphael unleashed one last desperate strike, which pierced the center of Soul Edge. He should have been dead. Yet, for some reason, the Azure Knight had left without delivering the final blow. He received treatment back at his mansion, but soon realized that he had been infected by the evil sword's energy. Although he still had his sanity, he was clearly no longer human. Amy also became infected while treating his injuries. Raphael escaped with Amy to a distant land eastern Europe, where they took shelter in a castle ruin that stood in the mountains. Amy had been transformed into a being that could not interact with the normal world. Raphael decided that he would change the world for her. His plan, woven from threads of madness, proceeded slowly but surely, infecting nearby lands with evil energy. But one day, an incident occurred in which some people who had been transformed to evil returned to normal by the power of a "Holy Stone." Threatened by this object, Raphael decided to go on a journey to discover the true nature of the "Holy Stone" and obliterate it from this world. Just as he made his decision, an army appeared at the base of the castle. They had noticed the abnormality of the area and come to attack its source. He would need to drive off those fools, first. "Amy, I won't be back for a while. Be a good girl while I'm gone." Raphael bid farewell to his beloved Amy and descended below to the world that refused to accept them. The expression on the face of the reticent girl who watched him leave said nothing of what lay hidden in her heart. =============================================================================== === Stage ================================================================= =============================================================================== Stage: Romanian Valley Castle Siege Background Music: Endless Warfare It has been more than 100 years since Vlad the lmpaler lead his army against the Ottoman Turks and crossed swords with the Sultan in order to protect this land and his home country of Walachia. Located somewhere in the deep mists of the southern Carpathian Mountains, this castle was not originally designed for a battle of that nature, but it was now about to face exactly that. The army of the Duchy of Walachia surrounded the castle and, seeing that the master of the castle was not going to give up without a fight, began their attack. A lot of people try to use Raphael and most fail. If you plan on using him, be sure to know what he can and can not do. Raphael is not the best character in the game. In fact, he is one of the weakest... But, Raphael is however, unique. He uses a series of parrying and evading techniques to survive. A good player should master the Strigoii, Preparation Parry and Quick Parade. Another down side to being weak, he uses a majority of linear moves which leave him open to 8-Way Run's. The goal of playing Raphael should be to stay up in the opponents face. Sidestep techniques are highly advisable. Combined with his evasion and parry techniques, you can keep a constant flow of short bursts of attacks. Raphael is quick; this should provide an advantage. Don't block too much up close. Venom Side Kick seems to work very well. Spinning Affondo Thrust has landed me more ring outs than any other Ring Out move. The Unending Stings grab works wonders as well. Vertical attacks are most dangerous because side steping requires no extra articles to perform. After you side step, lead in with an attack. If you are fighting someone who is mainly doing horizontal attacks, block and retaliate with a vertical attack. It is a great tool when your opponentis blocking. Since it attacks very low and is quick, makes his move hard to block. 2: Spinning Affondo Thrust : L 2A+B A more powerful version of Grave Needle with only one hit. This one isn't as fast Grave Needle but has a knock down ability. Great for ring outs. 3: Pirouette Sweep : L 1K This kick is real useful. It really confuses the opponent in to figuring out where to block. Has a knock down ability and great for ring outs as well. =============================================================================== === Preferred Mid Attacks ================================================= =============================================================================== 1: Roaring Stocatta : M,M BB A quick double strike attack. Even though it's a vertical attack, you can catch the opponent off guard and pull off a nice double hit. 2: Broken Thrust : M [6]B A fast, medium range attack. like it's bigger brother, Affondo Fendante, this one is weaker but very easy to pull off. You can also get into Preparation by holding B down. 3: Wyvern's Tail : M 6[6]A+B This move is a bit more complicated than most of the other ones. This move is great for getting your opponent in the air. It is hard to judge where Raphael's blade will hit until it is too late. You may also cancel this move by pressing G. 4: Montante el Fin : M [9]_[3]B This move will get your opponent into the air for a great air combo. Since you are already panning around your opponent, you could easily get to one side of them and fire off this move. This move also can ring out short walls. 5: Crimson Moon : M,M [9]_[3]KB This is one of Raphael's signature moves. An unexpected kick in the air and a blade lifting the opponent and Raphael into the sky. Can ring out short walls and easy to catch your opponent on the sides or back. 6: Affondo Fendante : M 236B A powerful medium range quick attack is good in range and can knock the opponent to the cold floor. This move is my second favorite attack. It is a simple move which can be utilized to close range in on your opponent. =============================================================================== === Preferred High Attacks ================================================ =============================================================================== 1: Attack au Fer : H,H AA A quick horizontal double attack. It is fast and most of the time, the opponent wont expect the second hit. Simple and easy. 2: Heavy Mandritti : H 4B This move spins Raphael to his left and attacks. It is good for evasion and attacking and for catching you opponent off guard. =============================================================================== === Dangerous Attacks ===================================================== =============================================================================== 1: Bloody Funeral : M (U) 4[4]aB This move may be powerful, but it takes too long for it to be any use in combat. It is also a Vertical/Thrust move, which means all the opponent has to do is side step to evade this attack. Only use this attack when you knock someone down from far away, and know you have plenty of time to pull this move off. 2: Triple Botta in Tempo : H,H,M 6BBB This move isdangerous. It is a Vertical attack, which means the opponent can simply side step to evade. Although, this move can be utilized greatly, so do not avoid using it when the time is right. Just do not abuse this move. 3: Triple Botta in Tempo ~Preparation : H,H,M (SP) 6BB[B] This move is very dangerous. Like Triple Botta in Tempo, this move is even more danagerous because you go into Preparation, which can't be canceled, only by attacking will disengage it. 4: Cantarella Needle (Advance) : M 6B+K This attack turns your back to your opponent, leaving you wide up for a split second, which is all that is needed for you to come to your demise. Even though it is a fast move, I have been grabbed while doing it a large number of times. X: Soul Charge : (SP) A+B+K I am the only person I know who will tell you this, never use Soul Charge. It only increased you damage by 10% on the first hit. It also changes a few properties on some moves, such as Stocatta Rampade Crescendo, which becomes unblockable. If you get hit while you have a Soul Charge, it will increase their damage by 20%. =============================================================================== === Preferred Other Attacks =============================================== =============================================================================== 1: Flash Needle : H,L AB This move pulls one high attack then immediately a low. Very useful and most of your opponents won't see the second low hit coming. The AI in the game can because they read your button inputs. A very nice attack. 2: Dark Abyss : M 236A+B This move is my third favorite move. Raphael leaps and spins into a lunge which throws the opponent to the ground. Quick, powerful and confusing to the opponent, leaving little time for guarding. ========================================================= Intro: After their bodies had undergone the evil transformation, Raphael and Amy lived thier lives hiding in a castle in eastern Europe Amy's body would now no longer permit her to have normal contact with the outside world. In this land, Raphael began formulating a plan to change the world for Amy's sake. This plan to spread the evil transformation to the entire world started with the nearby villages and slowly but surely progressed. But one day, an incident occurred in which a portion of the evil-transformed people became to trturn to normal through the power of a stone known as a "Holy Stone.' Raphaerl felt that this could be a threat to his plan. so he decided to set out on a jourey to determine the origin and true nature of the Holy Stone At around this same time, a militar force appeared at the base of his castle in repsonce to the strange goings-on in the area. He would have to deal with them first He bid farwell to his beloved Amy and descended to the outside world Episode 1: Romanian Valley The castle was now surrounded, and Raphael could see numnerous seige weapons and troops bristling with murderous intnet. He did not feel fear, however. In fact, to him, they appeared as prey. These fools had intruded on his private kingdom with Amy. He had no intention of allowing any of them to return alive. As the siege weapons began to fire, he eventually set his eyes on a man who appeared to be the enemy commander. Stage Song: Endless Warfare Battle: Two Enemies, Foot Soldier and General Footsoldier Weapon: Gladius General Weapon: Great Sword Episode 2: Romanian Valley An army that has lost its commander is like a crab that has lost its legs. There was no need for Raphael to take care of the rest personally. He could leave them to the evil-transformed citizens of the city. After this, he heard no more rumors of the individual with the HOly Stone, but her had to know what it was! He checked to make sure Amy was safe, then set out on his journey. Option One: Investigate the Holy Stone itself. Option Two: Investigate the one who had carried the Holy Stone Option One Outcome: Secret Money Pit Raphael researched information regarding the Holy Stone, but he did not fint the answers he sought. In fact, there was hardly any information at all. He remembered rumors surroinding the tomb of a certian wealthy merchant. It was said that a variety of treasure lay inside the tomb. It seemed unlikely that he Holy Stone he knew of was the one in existence. Perhaps there were Holy Stones within the tomb. Raphael searched for the tomb that was said to float in the Mediterranean Sea Stage Song: Blind Loyalty Voldo Weapon: Cat Claws Episode 3: Clock Tower Raphael defeated the guardian of the tomb, but in the end, he found no stones that appeared like the ones he was seeking. After this, Raphael reached a conclusion about the Holy Stone. From the way it erased his power, it must be an object which opposes evil energy. There was surely also something with power equal and opposite of that of Soul Edge. As Raphael traveled form land to land gathering information, a man appeared before him who claimed to know of the opposite power. Raphael cautiously headed for the clock tower, where the man awaited him... Trap: Left Zasalamel Weapon: Kafziel 'I think it's about time you tell me what you know.' 'I place my curse upon you, you who were once human...' Without responding to Raphael's words, the man with the scythe faded away into the darkness. The fact that he had set a trap must mean that he had something to hide. Was it true then that there was something that opposed the cursed sword? Option One: Follow the man with the scythe in order to leard what he knows Option Two: Judge it dangerous to chase after him. Episode 4: (Option One Out Come) Clock Tower Raphael pursured the man, but he had already vanished. That man had tried to do away with Raphael... surely, he had been trying to protect the entity with the power to oppose Soul Edge. But, if it did existm if he fed souls to the evil sword and increased its power, he might be able to destroy that treat... Option One: Investidate this power that ooposes Soul Edge Option Two: Search for Soul Edge. (Option Twon Out Come) Water Mill Valley Raphael searched for information regarding an entity that opposed the cursed sword, but he found virtually no clues. The only thing he learned was that, several years ago, when Azure Knight had rampaged with the cursed sword in hand, two men and a womand had set out to face him. From the fact that, after that, rumors of the Azure Knight had ceased. completely, it was highly probable that the three of them had defeaded the knight. It was said they had come from the east... Raphael left Europe and headed east... Swordsman Weapon: Heisung Jian Raphael felt like he was being watched. Option One: Stop. Option Two: Hurry on ahead. Episode 5: (Option One Out Come) Water Mill Valley Prepare to Defend Yourself!! Defeat all the enemies before time runs out!! Twenty Lizard Man Weapon: Boned Meat Episode 6: Kunpaetku Shrine Ruin During his journey east, Raphael sensed a presence draped in evil energy. It might be related to Soul Edge. Since he currently had no clues about who had destroyed the cursed sowrd, it wouldn't be a bad idea to pursue this now. He traced the evil energy and arrived ar a ruin in the desert. The one he was tracking had probably sensed his presence as well. Raphael saw no one around, but a feeling of bloodlust permeated the ruin! Trap: G Astaroth Weapon: Episode 7: Kunpaetsku Shrine Ruin Raphael defeated the giant and discovered a fragment of Soul Edge inside the body. He noticed that its evil energy was increasing his strength ever so slightly. Before, the Holy Stone had negated his power, but if he obtained Soul Edge, perhaps he could gain power even greater than that of the stone. That seemed like a more effective route than seeking something for which there were absolutely no clues. Raphael began to search for Soul Edge... Proving Grounds Raphael's journey in search of Soul Edge continued. He heard rumors of someone who was traveling across the land, researching the cursed sword. Raphael decided to locate the man. He might have information that Raphael didn't. After investigating for a bit, he learned that the man was trying to destroy Soul Edge. It looked like they were in for a fight... Raphael headed deep into the Mountains where the mam was said to live. Kilik Weapon: Amud Episode 8 Proving Grounds The stone that the man carried had suppressed Raphael's power. It might be the Holy Stone. However, it was no match for Raphael now. He shattered the stone and left the land. He once again began searching for the Soul Edge and learned of a man who claimed he would destroy Soul Egge. Given that he knew the name Soul Edge, the odds were high that he knew something, but it might also be nothing but empty boasting. Option One: Judge that it is likely empty boasting and continue searching for Soul Edge. Option Two: Search for the boastful man. (Option Two Out Come) Grand Labyrinth Raphael came in search of the man in question, but it turned out that he had been holed up in the ruins of a giant labyrinth for some time. According to the local people, there were many who had gotten lost in the labyrinth and had never been seen again. Upon seeing the ominous appearance of the entrance, he understood why the local people feared it. He lit his torch and stepped inside. Unknown Soul Weapon: Blue Thunder Had it been a bandit who lived in the labyrinth, or a warrior challenging the labyrinth? Whatever the case, the warrior had been no match for Raphael. A gentle flowing breeze told him that an exit was nearby. He was almost out of food and his strength was recovering poorly. What to do... Option One: Head for the exit. Raphael, the young master of the Sorel Family, grew up with the tumultuous age as his cradle, the scheming of noble families as his lullaby, and the rapier and medicine as his playmates. His cool, unemotional demeanor created many enemies, but his quick and precise decision-making and execution skills solidified the foundation of his family amongst the nobles. Unfortunately, Raphael made a critical mistake during the year of the notorious Evil Seed catastrophe. He discovered too late that one member of nobility supported by the Sorel clan became insane from the effects of the Evil Seed. Consequently, Raphael gave his enemies the justification to come after him. To make matters worse, treacherous members of his family who were thrust into the conflict surrendered quickly and offered to hand over Raphael in order to protect themselves. Raphael hid himself in an impoverished town to escape from his pursuers, which included his family members. But accustomed to a life of privilege without want, Raphael could not bear the cold and hunger he suffered in the slums. He most certainly would have died if it were not for a little girl named Amy, who hid the weakened Raphael from his enemies. For the little girl, helping Raphael was only a simple deed motivated out of spite for the soldiers. For Raphael, a man who until then lived by his own means, it marked the first time he owed his life to someone else. He felt emotions that he had never experienced before, and Amy became an irreplaceable presence in Raphael's life. Raphael's exposure to life in the slums made him see the world in a whole new light, and realize the meaninglessness of everything. Nobles quarreled constantly and only thought of their petty interests and self-preservation. And the commoners, tired of constant warring, had given up hope. The world was filled with people whose soulless, meaningless lives made them no better than the dead. Convinced that the chaos of war was no place to live a meaningful life, Raphael took Amy and left the poverty-stricken town. Avoiding war-torn lands, they moved to a town in the countryside. But even with the new surroundings, he could not get Amy to open her heart to the world. Even though her life in the slums strengthened the 10-year old girl's wariness of life and gave her a tenacious will to live, it erased any sense of hope she had for the future. Assuming a false name, Raphael befriended a rich noble to obtain the means to take care of the young girl. He employed his cunning to gain the trust of the lord and those around him. And when the opportunity arose, Raphael poisoned the noble and spread word that the "lord had left on a long journey." One day, Raphael found a letter with references to the Evil Seed- the turning point in his life - in the mansion library. He was fascinated by the information, and it wasn't long before he made the connection between the Evil Seed and Soul Edge. Soul Edge- a demonic blade that promises power in exchange for one's sanity. What if such a sword were thrust into the hands of the pathetic nobles? They would undoubtedly fight feverishly for the weapon, and ultimately destroy themselves. Commoners would be unfortunate victims of the war, but their existence mattered little, for they were no better off then the dead. It would all be worth it if the petty, war-mongering nobles could be eliminated to secure a meaningful future for Amy. But in order to accomplish his goal, Raphael needed Soul Edge; he was determined to obtain the sword by any means necessary. It is similar to a foil, but has a stiffer V-shaped blade, has a larger bell guard, and is heavier. The blade is a concave triangle in cross-section. Épée is French for "sword". Estoc: An estoc is a type of sword common in the 16th century. It was long, straight and stiff, with a diamond cross-section. An estoc had no cutting edge, just a point. As armor improved, so did the methods of attacking the armor. It was quickly realized that cutting weapons were losing their effectiveness, so crushing weapons such as maces and axes were utilized. But thrusting weapons that could split the rings of mail, or find the joints and crevices of plate, were employed. Thus was the estoc developed. estoc is French, meaning thrust or point. Tuck is the English version of the word. German estoc-style weapons were called Panzerstecher (meaning "armor-piercer" or "armor-stinger"). Many consider the Tuck a forerunner of the rapier, but more likely it is a merging of the civilian sword (Espada Ropera) with theeffective, and lighter tuck, that produced the rapier. But the tuck was an effective weapon. The long, straight blade was very rigid and could be thrust with one hand, or the second hand could be used to grip the blade to deliver an even more powerful thrust. A rapier is a relatively slender (blade 2.5 centimetres or less in width), sharply pointed sword with a blade at least 90 centimetres in length, often sporting an elaborate hilt and hand-guard. For most of its period of use, the rapier was double-edged, some later rapiers were single-edged (with a sharply triangular blade) or edgeless. A rapier is capable of both cutting and thrusting attacks, but the thrust is the main attack in all rapier fighting styles. The term refers to a variety of blade and hilt forms depending on who is writing and when. It can refer to earlier "spada da lato" (much like the "espada ropera") through the high rapier period of the 17th century through the smallsword and duelling swords, thus context is important in understanding what is meant by the word. (It should be noted that the term "sidesword", used among some modern historical martial arts reconstructionists, is a 21st century translation in English from the Italian "spada da lato" and is not referred to the slender, long rapier, but only to the early 16th century italian sword with a broader and shorter blade that is considered its ancestor). History: The rapier began to develop at around 1500 as the Spanish "espada ropera", or "dress sword". The espada ropera was a cut-and-thrust civilian weapon for self-defense and the duel, while earlier weapons were equally at home on the battlefield. Throughout the 16th century, however, a variety of new, single-handed civilian weapons were being developed, including the German "Rappier", another cut-and-thrust weapon used for sportive fencing, as described in Joachim Meyer's fechtbuch of 1570. Nevertheless, the English word "rapier" generally refers to a primarily thrusting weapon, developed by the year 1600 as a result of the geometrical theories of such masters as Camillo Agrippa and Ridolfo Capo Ferro.
