Copyright ============== 1.Introduction ============== Welcome to the Siren “Brain Cell Revival” game FAQ/walkthrough. My name is DarkBlade22. The game Siren is a decent horror game in its own right, and though its convoluted plot can confuse some players, it is also an interesting twist on conventional gameplay. Unfortunately, the game does not offer much in the way of extra stuff outside of the main part of the game. The one thing that it does offer, though, is a mini-game called Brain Cell Revival, or “Zuno” as it says on the title screen. This game is a Tetris-like game, where you try to make combos with different colored icons in order to gain a high score. This walkthrough will help the player unlock the game, and will show the ins and outs of playing this game. You may ask yourself, "Why is this guy making a faq about something that isn't really that hard to figure out?" Well, I haven't found anything on the internet yet about this game, so I'm making this in the hopes that someone will be able to benefit. The game doesn't tell you what type of combos there are, for example. If I do find something on the web about this game, or someone else does and tells me, then I will check it out and be able to make this faq better with my new knowledge. ===================== 2. Unlocking the Game ===================== This game can be unlocked only during the last third of the game. You must play the Tamon Takeuchi mission that takes place on Day 3, at 03:00, in the Nest near Level 4. Play through until you switch characters, from Tamon Takeuchi to Kyoya Suda. Get Kyoya past the Shibito dog at the Chibiki Bridge, and take him past the collection of houses which he must go through to reach the end. You’ll find a ledge to climb on, near a graveyard, where you will find the hunting rifle. Nearby is archive Item No. 087, the “Brain Cell Revival” game. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | Help: [ ] No. 087 | | “Brain Cell Revival” game | | Kyoya Suda | |Archive Day 3 - 03:00 | |--------------- | | show all | | --------------- | | | | A gift from Outer Space! | | | illustration | Mental stimulation | | | | For the entire family! | | | | | | --------------- Work out all 72,185,303,100,705 | | Different combinations! | | | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To play the game, simply read the Archive file on the Archive screen, and you will be able to select the game under “puzzle game” on the title screen. If you are an advanced player and want to start at a different level for more of a challenge, press left and you can change the level. You can select from level 0 (easy), level 3 (hard), and level 6 (very hard). =================== 4. Playing the Game =================== a. Objective ------------ This is the screen that appears when you are playing: --------------------------------------- | Score hiscore | | 0000000 0010900 | | | | LV0 | | | | | | | | | | | | playing | | field | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | --------------------------------------- There are 6 rows and 6 columns. There are 11 squares in each row and column, and each row or column can be moved up to 5 spaces in each direction. Icons will appear at random in spots all around the board. Your task is to maneuver each icon so that at least 4 of the same color icon are adjacent to each other in a row or column. The icons will then disappear, and you will get a score based on how many icons you made disappear and if any combos were involved. As you progress, your level will go up, and icons will appear at a more rapid pace. It’s game over when there are no more free spaces on the board. b. Controls ----------- These are the controls for playing: - start - pause - control pad - up - moves the horizontal cursor up down - moves the horizontal cursor down left - moves the vertical cursor left right - moves the vertical cursor right - triangle button - moves the selected vertical row up - x button - moves the selected vertical row down - circle button - moves the selected horizontal row left also returns you to title screen when you get a game over - square button - moves the selected horizontal row right - R1 button - will make the next icon appear c. Icons -------- Here is a breakdown of each icon, and what clearing it will get you: - yellow - You get 10 points for a yellow combo. - red - You get 10 points for a red combo. - purple - You get 10 points for a purple combo. - pink - You get 10 points for a pink combo. - burger head - Named after a type of Shibito, completing a combo of 4 of these will automatically gain you a X2 combo, and will also stop the pulsing of all the other icons. Any icons you clear while they are stopped will add to this combo, going to X4, X8, etc., giving you a bigger score. Also, no more icons will appear while they are stopped, buying you a little time. - eggs - I am not quite sure of the purpose of these yet. These egg icons seem to appear and just take up room until a little later, when they change to a randomly selected icon. I will update this as I learn more about these eggs. d. Gaining Levels ----------------- To gain another level, simply clear 15 sets of icons. For every 15 sets, you will gain an extra level. Be careful, for the game will get faster as you gain more levels. ========= 5. Combos ========= In addition to clearing sets of 4 icons of the same color, you can complete combos. This will both get you a higher score and clear more icons off of the board, giving you more time. These are the various combos you can get: - multiple icon combo - By clearing more than 4 of the same color at the same time, you can get a slightly bigger score. Clearing 5 will get you 20 points, 6 will get you 40, 7 will get you 80, and so on. In addition, the extra icons just have to be touching the original 4 in the combo, and do not have to be in the same row or column. - quick clear combo - If you clear a set of icons, and can clear another set while the originals are still blinking, you will score a X2 combo. You can get a big bonus if you can keep the chain going. - Burger Head combo - As stated before, if you clear 4 Burger Heads, you’ll get a X2 combo and stop the clock, during which time you can add to the combo by clearing more icons. - blinking icon combo - Each icon pulses, but sometimes you will see an icon that is blinking. If you can clear this blinking icon before it stops blinking, you will clear every icon of that color from the board, netting you a huge bonus! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Let's take a look at an example of a multiple icon combo. | | [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [ ][ ][R][ ][ ][ ] R = red icon [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [R][R][ ][R][R][R] -> [R][R][R][R][R][R] | [R][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [R][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | | This is an example of a simple m.i. combo. By simply moving the icon in the | third column down one space, at least 4 icons will be in a row, the others | will be connected, and the player will get 40 points (10 x2 x2). | | --------------- | | Now for a more complicated combo. | | [ ][ ][ ][ ][Y][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][Y][ ] | [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Y = yellow icon [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [ ][Y][Y][ ][Y][ ] -> [ ][Y][Y][Y][Y][ ] | [Y][ ][ ][Y][Y][Y] [Y][ ][ ][ ][Y][Y] | [Y][ ][ ][ ][ ][Y] [Y][ ][ ][ ][ ][Y] | [Y][Y][Y][ ][Y][Y] [Y][Y][Y][ ][Y][Y] | | In this example, by moving the 4th column one space up, you complete a simple| m.i. combo, worth 320 points (10 x2 x2 x2 x2 x2). But let's try something | different. | | [ ][ ][ ][ ][Y][ ] [ ][ ][ ][Y][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] | [ ][Y][Y][ ][Y][ ] -> [ ][Y][Y][ ][Y][ ] -> [ ][Y][Y][Y][Y][ ] | [Y][ ][ ][Y][Y][Y] [Y][ ][ ][Y][Y][Y] [Y][ ][ ][ ][Y][Y] | [Y][ ][ ][ ][ ][Y] [Y][ ][ ][ ][ ][Y] [Y][ ][ ][ ][ ][Y] | [Y][Y][Y][ ][Y][Y] [Y][Y][Y][ ][Y][Y] [Y][Y][Y][Y][Y][Y] | | Here, by moving the top row one space over, and then moving the 4th column | two spaces down instead of one space up, you complete a combo of 15 icons, | worth an astounding 10,240 points! You'll have to think quick to get the | big combos, but if you can get them you'll quickly become a top player. | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- There may be other combos. If I find any more, I will make an update to include them. ============= 6. In Closing ============= Siren could have used a lot more extra stuff, because once you unlock all the missions and objectives, there isn’t much else to do. This is a small pleasant distraction. It’s not quite as addictive as Tetris, but if you can get into it, it will keep you occupied for a while when you’re tired of being shot by a sniper Shibito for the 47th time. ========= 7. Thanks ========= CJayC - For owning and operating GameFAQS. Sony - For creating a different kind of horror game. Ben Mills (riffraff773) - My brother, for helping me figure out some of the combos. ============ 8. Copyright ============ This walkthrough is copyright 2005 Brian Mills, all rights reserved.
