There are a few minor changes from the Japanese to PAL release and they are listed further on in this guide. Anyway I hope this guide can be helpful regardless of which version you play. Gameplay =============================================================================== Shinobido is a ninja game from the creators of the original 2 Tenchu games. Determine the fate of Utakata by allying with the Lord of your choice, or secretly work for all 3 and see how things play out. In each mission, you decide how you will approach it. Either go through the level completely undetected until you reach your target, killing only those who stand in your way. Or become a mass murderer and kill everything that moves. You have access to various tools to help you complete your missions. Use a grappling hook to access high places or even use it against enemies to pull them closer, over cliff edges or even onto a set of mines you have placed. Each mission you complete, whether it be successful or failure will have an effect on the Lords you work for. Eg. Stealing gold from one Lord for another will effect their abilities to buy weapon to buy Secret Documents and Plans. The Secret Documents allow warriors of the Lord who obtained the documents to learn a special move, this also increases their health and/or attack power. While Plans tell how to manufacture new weapons. The warriors of the Lord who obtained the plans will get to use the new weapons, (Bows, Rapid Fire Bows, Guns) this also increases their health and/or attack power. Strategies previously used before may not always work if you use it too much. For example, using mines to blow up your enemy may work the first few times but as time goes on they will learn how to avoid or disable the mines. When this happens you will have to try something new for a while before you can go back to using mines. However you decide to play, remember everything has an effect, this is your Way of the Ninja! =============================================================================== 6. Characters =============================================================================== Under Construction This section section contains information on the playable characters, allies and enemies throughout the game. There are 2 playable characters. When you first start the game you will only have access to Goh the Crow, but as you progress in the main story, Kinu the Canary will also become available to use in missions. --------------------- | Playable Characters | --------------------- ************ Goh the Crow ************ - *************** Kinu the Canary *************** - --------------------------- | Lords and their Followers | --------------------------- *********** Clan Ichijo *********** - ********** Akame Clan ********** - *********** Sadame Clan *********** - ---------------- | Enemy Factions | ---------------- ********** Mosu Ninja ********** The Mosu Ninja, an all female Ninja Clan lead by the sisters Ageha and Usuba. Ageha and Usuba are seeking revenge against Goh for the death of their sister. ************ Kenobi Ninja ************ The Kenobi Ninja, lead by Hebitonbo and Uzumushi. They are not very intelligent, however their fiece combat abilities are not to be taken lightly. ************ Taraba Ninja ************ =============================================================================== 7. Areas In The Game =============================================================================== Under Construction ============== | Dandala Peak | ============== Used primarily as a trade route, the high cliffs and bottomless pits make this an extremely dangerous pass. The Barbarians seem to like to secure goods at on the mountain's peak. =============== | Rokudo Valley | =============== ================ | Phantom Forest | ================ =================== | Negishi Pavillion | =================== ===================== | Honcho Shimoyashiki | ===================== ============= | Sengen Town | ============= =============== | Ryonin Market | =============== =============== | Asuka Village | =============== The remains of the village of the Asuka Ninja, destroyed by the Taraba Ninja under orders from Gamuran. You won't recieve many missions here, only story missions and the odd collection mission. The forbidden shrine seems to be a very fertile place for Herbs and Mushrooms to grow... =================== | Murakumo Fortress | =================== Ichijo's Samurai Generals Stronghold ================== | Mokuami Fortress | ================== Sadame's Samurai Generals Stronghold ============ | Kongo Pass | ============ Akame's Samurai Generals Stronghold ================ | Utakata Castle | ================ Ichijo's Base ============= | Sotai Tower | ============= Sadame's Base ============= | Fudo Castle | ============= Akame's Base =============================================================================== 8. Missions =============================================================================== This section contains information on all the different mission types throughout the game. I've listed all the possible Mission Completion Requirements, Mission Failure Conditions and Special Contracts for each Mission Type. Please note that you can only have 1 of each Mission Completion Requirements / Failure Conditions / Special Contracts in a mission. ================ | Reconnaissance | ================ Without a doubt the simplest mission type in the game, you can just leave the area right away and it's mission complete. Although these missions can occasionally contain a chest with a Soul Fragment so pay attention to the mission notes on the first pages before accepting the mission. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Get back alive ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - None ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Don't kill anyone ============ | Collection | ============ Another easy mission type, collect the required number of Herbs/Mushrooms and return to base. All Collection Missions have the Special Contract of "Get More", collecting extra will boost the rating you recieve and also you will recieve more gold for each extra collected. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Mushroom of _______ x # - ______ Herb x # ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - None ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Get more =========== | Transport | =========== Even Goh has experience as a Mailman, these are fairly pretty easy unless they have the condition "Don't kill anyone". If it's hand to your contact they will be located in one of the buildings / around shrines in the area. Carry to the destination means you have to simply carry the package to the exit the arrow is pointing to. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Hand Safe to your contact - Hand Documents to your contact - Hand Treasure Chest to your contact - Carry Safe to the destination - Carry Rice to the destination - Carry Secret Documents to the destination - Carry Bow Designs to the destination - Carry Rapid-fire Bow Designs to the destination - Carry Gun Designs to the destination ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Lost Safe - Lost Documents - Lost Treasure Chest - Lost Rice - Lost Secret Documents - Lost Bow Designs - Lost Rapid-fire Bow Designs - Lost Gun Designs ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Don't be spotted by anyone - Finish within 5 minutes - Don't kill anyone ========== | Thievery | ========== Inflitrate and steal the item, these are not too difficult, just clear out your enemies to make the return trip safer. Also Thievery missions are the most common way of obtaining the Soul Fragments. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Steal Rice and escape - Steal Treasure Chest and escape - Steal Secret Documents and escape - Steal Bow Designs and escape - Steal Rapid-fire Bow Designs and escape - Steal Gun Designs and escape ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Lost Rice - Lost Treasure Chest - Lost Secret Documents - Lost Bow Designs - Lost Rapid-fire Bow Designs - Lost Gun Designs ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Don't be spotted by anyone - Get more ========= | Robbery | ========= Similiar to theivery however this time you have a time limit. As the package is being carried to a destination by one of your enemies. Take out your enemies 1 by 1 from behind if there is an escort, if there is no escort try using your grappling hook on the person carrying the package, if you can get him high enough and make him drop, they will often be knockout out a short moment allowing you to finish them off quickly, just be careful when choosing the location you will grapple from as they may see you while being pulled up and they will make noise when initially grappled. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Steal Rice and escape - Steal Documents and escape - Steal Secret Documents and escape - Steal Bow Designs and escape - Steal Rapid-fire Bow Designs and escape - Steal Gun Designs and escape ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Leave the area with target ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Don't kill anyone =================== | Total Destruction | =================== ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Kill all enemies ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - None ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Don't be spotted by anyone - Finish within 5 minutes - Protect your allies =============== | Assassination | =============== ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Kill Merchant - Kill Barbarian Chieftain - Kill Bear - Kill Samurai General - Kill Feudal Lord ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - None ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Kill more ======= | Guard | ======= ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Protect Merchant - Protect Samurai General - Protect Feudal Lord ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Merchant's Death - Samurai General's Death - Feudal Lord's Death ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - None ====== | Duel | ====== ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Assassinate Yojimbo - Assassinate Ninja - Assassinate Ninja Master - Assassinate Feudal Lord - Kill Gamuran (Final Mission) ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - None ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - None ========= | Assault | ========= ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Destroy the oxcart ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - The breakaway oxcart ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Kill more ======== | Escort | ======== ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Get the oxcart to its destination ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Oxcart destruction ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - None ============ | Kidnapping | ============ These can prove difficult if you don't have anything to silence your target (such as knockout/amnesia spheres), as while they are being carried they will scream and shout alerting all nearby enemies. So either go around killing everyone before you go to grab them, or amnesia your target. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Snatch Girl and return - Snatch Merchant and return - Snatch Princess and return ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Girl's Death - Merchant's Death - Princess's Death ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - None ======== | Rescue | ======== ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Take Merchant to the destination - Take Princess to the destination - Rescue: Merchant x # - Rescue: Girl x # ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - Merchant's Death - Princess's Death - Girl's Death ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - Rescue more ======== | Travel | ======== Travel missions are story missions that progress the game, only Goh can accept these missions. When you accept these missions, it will ask you if you are ready for this as this looks like a difficult mission. If you die in these missions, it's Game Over back to the title menu... These missions do not effect Lord's trust, provide money or rating. ******************************* Mission Completion Requirements ******************************* - Find a fragment - Rescue Kinu - Find a soul fragment - Find your body ************************** Mission Failure Conditions ************************** - None ***************** Special Contracts ***************** - None =============================================================================== 9. Resume game and press RIGHT on the D-Pad a few times to make Goh tired and collapse. This doesn't seem to serve much point... Iron Stomach Pause the game, hold down L1 and L2 and press Up Down Up Down Left Right Square The stealth kill sound will play to confirm the code entered. Resume game and now all items are eatible, when you try to use a item (doesn't matter if throwing/self/bomb/tool) Goh will eat it and restore some HP. =================================== | Model/Object Collecting made easy | =================================== Save your game, go into the mission that contains the character model/object you wish to collect. Kill character model/pick up the object you want, carry them to the exit, return to base. This will be mission failure, however quit back to title menu and reload your game. The character model/object will still be available even after reloading your data. - Thanks to K_Genjuro for this trick. =============================================================================== 13. PAL Version Changes =============================================================================== Stealth Kill Changes - Stealth Kill animation from behind for Goh has changed from a slash to the back, to a slit throat animation. - Through Door Stealth Kill animation has slightly been editted, your character will no longer continue to walk through the door doing their pose, this reduces the amount of noise created as in the JPN version your character would walk right through the door, causing it move about alot creating heaps of noise thus alerting near by guards... New Combos ************ Goh the Crow ************ - R1 + Square, R1 + Square (Extra Attack Downwards after the Rising Uppercut) - The Square, Square, Forward + Square combo can now be extended 1 - 2 attack(s) longer. The new combo's are below. - Square(x2), Forward + Square(x2) - Square(x2), Forward + Square, Square(x2) =============================================================================== 14. Frequently Asked Questions =============================================================================== Q: How many characters are playable? A: There are 2 playable characters, Goh the Crow and Kinu the Canary. Q: How come I can only use Goh, where is Kinu? A: Kinu comes available after rescuing her from the Kenobi Ninja about half way through the game. After rescueing her there will be a new option at your hideout called Switch Players. Use this to switch to Kinu, note: Kinu cannot be used to do main story missions. Q: Is Zaji playable? A: Only as a model change, this means you will appear and sound like Zaji, but only have Goh's moveset. Q: How do I make items? I don't see any options for it? A: After going to Asuka Village for the first time, you will gain the alchemy ability, this will appear as a new option in Equipment menu. More information available(soon) in the Alchemy section of this guide. Q: How do I view the Hidden Ending? A: Before being transformed into a bear make sure all 3 Lord's respect is above 34. (Do not have 1 Lord's trust a lot higher then the other 2 or you will only be able to view a normal ending.) After being regaining your body you should recieve a letter from Onji informing you that all 3 Lords are willing to put aside their differences and help you defeat Gamuran and questioning you whether this was your master plan from the beginning... This means the conditions have been met. Continue to do missions, keeping all 3 happy. After a few missions, (successful or failure doesn't seem to matter as long as they are all trusting) Goh will return to his house telling Onji that the war is over. Zaji and Kinu will then join you. From this point you will only have access to 2 missions. 1 Total Destruction and a Duel from one of the Lords at the Asuka Ninja Village, also you cannot use Switch Character from this point onwards. Zaji will be saved by 3 soldiers (1 from each Lord). Just defeat Gamuran and the Hidden Ending will play instead of the normal ending. (It is a good idea to make a seperate save before accepting the "Killer Whale's Eye" Mission.) =============================================================================== 15.
