Shadow Hearts: Covenant Lottery Member FAQ By: DarkMonty Version 0.97 ============================================================================= Table of Contents ============================================================================= I. Introduction II. Update History III. Lottery Members IV. Item Descriptions V. Ticket Locations VI. Closing/Copyright ============================================================================= I. Introduction: ============================================================================= Greetings and welcome to my FAQ about the Lottery System in Shadow Hearts: Covenant! This is my first attempt at a guide, so please gimme a little break =p. That being said, if you notice anything that's incorrect or if it's confusing, please let me know and I'll do my best to correct or update it. In addition, if you would like to contribute to this FAQ in any of the under construction areas, feel free to do so and you'll be given credit where it's due! For those of you new to the Shadow Hearts series, you may be wondering "What the hell is the lottery system?" It's a rather clever system that allows the player to participate in a large number of private "games" for uncommon or rare prizes. As you progress through the game, you'll acquire "lottery tickets," which are an absolute must to participate in the lottery, as the individual members of the organization will only reveal themselves to you if you are in possession of at least one ticket. The lottery itself can be really easy for some, or it can be one of the most difficult (and painfully irritating too). The basic object is that there are 4 colored sections on the judgment ring spaced randomly apart from one another of varying widths and the line rotates around the ring endlessly until you tell it to stop. Wherever the line comes to a stop is the determining factor for what prize you get. But there are various twists to it though: Some lottery members make their ring speed really fast, others make the size of their ring small, and still others won't show you anything at all, forcing you to blindly guess as to what is where! There are 16 lottery members scattered all throughout the game, including the head of the organization, who requires you to have met all the other members first before he makes his appearance. There are no real strategies for success at this other than find a save point before you start playing and continue to load and reload your game until you're satisfied with your result. It's time consuming, but you'll save lottery tickets this way, unless you have an absolute absurd amount of them to spend =/. I believe this covers all the basics, and you're probably tired of reading this by now, so let's get down to the crux of things! ============================================================================= II. Update History: ============================================================================= October 13, 2004: Discovered a couple more ticket locations October 14, 2004: Created an update history section to make the version submitted to IGN up to par with the one on GameFAQs. Submissions still welcome! October 15, 2004: Lottery Member 7 now has a name and I was finally able to translate "Rizoom" to the english name thanks to a helpful outside submission! October 16, 2004: Seems I had a lot more names for the Japanese version of the game than I previously thought. Thanks to Xx~Asmodai~Xx for pointing this out to me! October 17, 2004: Updated the Item Description section and gave it some more organization to make it easier to navigate, added a few more lottery ticket locations, and expanded upon where to find Member 12 in St. Marguerite. Sorry for the confusion! October 19, 2004: And lottery member #4 finally has a name now! Thanks again goes to DragonTears969 for his help! On a lesser note, fixed a minor mistake with the items and added descriptions for a couple more. I'm gettin there! October 20, 2004: Phew, I had some DUMB mistakes here that I just now caught. Updated a few of the item descriptions, clarified on where to find Lottery Member 10, and found a few instances where I had meant to translate the Japanese names of the items but forgot to until now. October 26, 2004: Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I went home for the weekend and didn't have access to my computer since I made the radical decision to leave it at college. But I played most of the weekend and made some significant progress on translating the items to American and their descriptions. October 29, 2004: I made the near finishing touches to this guide tonight! Updated the last of the items that lottery members 1 and 2 have to offer, added a few more lottery tickets, expanded upon some of the directions I gave on where to find a few lottery members, and finally alphabetized all the items by category so it'll be much easier to read! March 04, 2006: An extremely long time between updates, and I must say this one is rather unplanned. Quite a few people have emailed me in the last couple of years about lottery tickets from random battles, so I decided to add it in. Also added a pretty effective strategy for dealing with the blind style rings. ============================================================================= III. Lottery Member 4, Alicia in Wonderland Location: Tiffauges Castle, NE corner of the castle. ***At the 4-way intersection, go north. Follow the path all the way to the mirror switch to invert the map. Lottery Member 4 is taking a time out in the corner =/ Prizes: Red: Demon Ward Necklace Yellow: Strongoids Blue: Pure Extract Green: Hit Area Increase Grey: Tissues Ring Style: Blind Strategy: As before, since the game shows you very briefly where the colored sections are, put a finger on the TV screen where you hope to land the spinner and use that as your visual guide. Ticket Locations: ============================================================================= In this section, I've compiled a list of all the lottery tickets that I've discovered through walking around in the various areas of the game. Great to check when you need a quick ticket for whatever reason or if you want to build a nice buffer of tickets so you can play the harder ones more than 1 time and can afford a mistake. This list is constantly being updated, and if you see I've missed one along the way, let me know! My contact information is in the closing section. 1) Underground Subway: You get this ticket from beating the boss at the end. 2) Le Havre: Search the head of the bearskin rug in the mayor's house. 3) Winecellar: Take the first right you come to as you enter the area. Follow that path for a little bit, and you'll eventually come to an area where the camera angle changes and you can go north (it probably isn't north, but it's definitely "up"). Down that hallway and around the bend, you'll come to a long hallway with a branch to the left, and just past there is a short branch to the right. In that room, solve the stepladder puzzle with the wall switches to unlock the door, and in that end room is the chest with the lottery ticket. Phew! =/ 4) Southampton: At the far end of the main courtyard, along the right-hand wall with all the posters and ads on the wall is a ticket stuck there. 5) Rhonda Mines: Take the very first left you come to. When you pass the path branching upwards, the tunnel will take a 90 degree turn soon. When you get there, check the corner to pick up a Lottery Ticket. 6) Wales: In Roger Bacon's tower, it's laying on the wooden table with the large, open book. 7) Florence: In the little doorway area close to the lamp-post where you trade the strand of straw to the person wanting it for a hat and get the film. 8) Italian HQ: After figuring out the clock puzzle and riding the elevator down, then going through the rotating wall and flipping the switch to move the wall, head into the library area and go around the bend. Examine the bookshelf along the left wall for another lottery ticket. 9) Cannes: In the area with the stairs, before going down to the lower level, check around the lamp post for another lottery ticket. 10) St. Marguerite: Go up the first spiral staircase after getting the key back and down that hall. Into the first door you see should take you to a small room. On the left, check the small counter area against the wall for another ticket. 11) St. Marguerite: Yep, there's two in this area! This one is in the room where you pick up the green earthen pipe weapon for Joachim. Go up the set of stairs and around the walkway to the empty space where there is NO chest and hunt around on the floor there for another ticket. 12) Petrograd: In Edgar's shop, go around the front counter and all the way to the end. Pick around there and you should find another lottery ticket there. Best time to get this is after you resume control of the main party after saving Anastasia. 13) Petrograd: In the Winter Palace, go through the center doors and turn left down the hall to the doors in the western sector. Down this hall, and the ticket is rather cleverly concealed within the potted plant close to the third door on the right. 14) Goreme Valley: After the opening events of this place, go into the cave past the save point and enter the third door in the new area, which is in the farthest back and on the right past the staircase. In the following room, search the table with the plate and glowing candle on its top for another ticket. You'll know you're in the right room if there's a guy in a grey suit. 15) Gallery of the Dead: Open the metal gate and follow the corridor left around the bend. When you get to the point where you can keep going or branch off to the north, take the north pathway. Go up this hall until the path branches again to the left, and in the corner there is a body with the ticket. It's just south of the switch with the E symbol (pronounced "yeh"). 16-18) Wolf Bout #8: When you finish wolf bout 8 against Maya and her two cronies, you'll receive 3 lottery tickets as your reward. In order to get these wolves to appear, sometime after you finish St. Marguerite, talk to the old man wandering around the well in the center of town where he'll talk about a pack of wolves pillaging their food. Then go search the woods in the first area for the three. Blanca should be at least level 24 with a shell bracelet, replacement man (in case something goes wrong), and I had a coral lariat equipped just so I was guaranteed to hit mostly strikes. Take out Martega first, then Mash. Be careful, they automatically surround you and love to inflict 3 man combos on you, so have some healing items ready to go and make sure your replacement man is equipped in case they beat you up too bad. But hey, 3 lottery tickets is definitely more than worth the pains of this bout! =P 19) Brick Warehouses: In one of the warehouses, check the floor next to the first conveyor belt for another ticket. You'll know you're in the right area if there's a guy in a greyish outfit named Whispering Murayama who talks about buying tonic. 20) Warship Mikasa: In the cabin that you open with the respective key, check the small coffee table close to the door for another ticket. 21) Mihonbashi: In the area with the Great Gama's ring, check the wall with all the papers and posters along the left end of the map. It's close to the guy with the grey suit. 22) Hojo Research Lab: You get this ticket automatically for beating the Super Tunneler boss at the end. 23) Inugami Village: In Kurando's house, check the space between the stairs to the next floor and the wall. 24) Paris, Monmartre: You get this ticket for beating the Wolfman, as the final wolf in the series of bouts. You can only access this battle once you finish the original 12, then the first 2 of the hidden 3. 25) Azabu Kamiyashiki: In the locker room, check the metal container close to the door in the frontal corner of the room for another ticket. 26) Queen's Garden: When you enter the area, take the left door. Go down that hall til you reach another circular chamber and then take the right hand door. In here should be a smaller room with a chest (that contains the key item pawn). Snatch the lottery ticket beside the grandfather clock directly next to the portrait on its side. 27) Doll House: On the main floor, go across the room to the door at the far end of the room. In this room, go across the room again and search the empty fireplace for another ticket. 28) Le Havre: You get this for finishing the battle against the Peach Bat. I'm not exactly sure how early you can get this, because the final dungeon already appeared for me and I've been doing the side quests now. Just go to Le Havre's tavern area to activate the cut scene with the two kids and Joachim's sister. Doing so also nets you Joachim's ultimate weapon too :P 29+) Doll House: A lot of people have emailed me since my last update about receiving lottery tickets from the random battles against the demon doll monsters that you fight for incorrectly naming a doll. To be honest, I don't have any more information than this because I haven't played the game since last year. Thanks to all the people who sent me this tip! ============================================================================= VI.
