The usual disclaimers apply: I'm fishing romanizations and translations out of in-game text, but use my own translations when there aren't any. Sengoku obviously has a lot of rather sticky translation issues, so if there are any mistakes/suggestions, feel free to let me know. This guide assumes knowledge of basic Japanese. At the time I'm writing this the English version of the game isn't out yet so I've no idea what the official translations will be (if it's going to be Devil Kings 2, the names will be radically different). I won't be updating names for the English version as I won't be playing said English version. This FAQ contains spoilers in so far as revealing stage/boss/item names. Basic Information 3. Stages 4. Unique Items 5. FAQ 6. Credits =============================================================================== SECTION 2: BASIC INFORMATION =============================================================================== The stage bonus requires that you fulfil a certain set of conditions while playing through the stage. You can't tell what the conditions are until you've fulfilled them at least once, after which the condition will show up on your debriefing screen. Usually what you get for this is some bonus exp, but they're important because you get a character's unique item when you fulfil the bonus conditions on the fourth stage in their Story Mode. A gold treasure chest will appear somewhere on the map once the conditions are met. =============================================================================== SECTION 3: STAGES =============================================================================== Listed in the order they appear on the Free Mode stage selector (approximate order of difficulty). If a stage is relevant for obtaining a character's unique item it will be marked as such. Note that you can only get those items in Story Mode, except for Musashi who doesn't have a Story Mode. You have maybe 10 seconds or so of time after you kill the stage boss in which to move around and collect items, which is when you go collect the unique items that have a prereq of "kill stage boss". =============================================================================== PLUNDER OF ANEGAWA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Capture all four forts. NOTES: You sort of have to do this anyway to get to the boss. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF INABAYAMA CASTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all the guard captains. NOTES: The guard captains are the ones in the areas with the small forts that appear out of the ground. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== UEDA CASTLE DEPLOYMENT BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: You can see where they all are on the minimap. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== UEDA CASTLE LIGHTNING STRIKE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: Unlike the Hotblooded Ueda Castle map, there's no alternate route here so you don't have to backtrack to get all the enemies. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ASSAULT ON ODAWARA CASTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Arrive at the main gates before they close. NOTES: Get on the horse and charge straight for the gates. You can backtrack to finish off the enemies you missed later. You don't need the Gale Saddle for this. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ODAWARA CASTLE INFILTRATION MISSION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Encounter Houjou Ujimasa within 3 minutes of his escape. NOTES: This can get a bit tricky depending on how long you spend fighting Fuuma Kotarou. You'll probably need Itaden's Scroll to make it in time. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== EXILE OF THE ZABI CULT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all the Mecha Zabis. NOTES: The Mecha Zabis will keep appearing every time you kill one as long as you don't kill the original Zabi. There are about 6 total. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BREAKING THROUGH HASEDOU CASTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Arrive at Masamune's location within 3 minutes. NOTES: Another time-limit condition, charging straight for the opposing general works fine. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== MAEDA HOME BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: It's essentially one straightforward path so you can't really miss it. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF ITSUKUSHIMA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Mouri Motonari before he runs away. NOTES: This is actually a bit hard without a decently-leveled character because you have very little time to do it in. Ideally you want to have the Veteran Preparation (start with 1 level of Drive filled) and attack-increasing items equipped, filling your Basara gauge before you encounter him. Hit Drive immediately and smack him around; when he uses Drive, counter with your Basara attack (incidentally, this works with other time-limited boss encounters too, like vs Musashi in Conquest mode). ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== OKEHAZAMA DECOY BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Imagawa Yoshimoto before reinforcements arrive. NOTES: The real Yoshimoto is one of those random boss icons shuffling around the map; he'll run away if you take too long fighting him and become one of the other boss icons, so it's best to beat him in one go (see above for strategy). Idaten's Scroll recommended. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF KAWANAKAJIMA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Succeed in defending at least one of your ally generals. NOTES: What this actually means is that you have to dash all over the map and kill as quickly as possible any enemy squad that encounters one of your generals. Encountering and defeating Yukimura and/or Sasuke is ok, but if you encounter Shingen before they run out of troops you automatically fail the conditions. Idaten's Scroll and the Giantslayer Mask are very handy for this stage. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== KAWANAKAJIMA RIVER CROSSING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all the defense captains before Kenshin arrives. NOTES: Again, Idaten's Scroll helps immensely. Note that you only have to fight the captains, not Kasuga or the other named generals. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== NORTHERN IKKI REBELLION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all of the Defenders of Itsuki leaders. NOTES: The Defenders of Itsuki can be distinguished by their bright pink coats and cries of "Itsuki-chan!" and "Moee~". Once you defeat all the generals around Itsuki and reduce her health, additional reinforcements will arrive, so you don't want to defeat Itsuki too quickly. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== SHIZUGATAKE LAKESIDE BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Toshiie and Matsu before they've regrouped more than twice. NOTES: After they run away at the beginning of the stage, Toshiie and Matsu will start running in opposite circles around the outside edge of the map, crossing paths usually at the north or south end. They'll attack you if you catch up to them, but if you get too far away (knocked back by Drive, for example), they'll resume running. Idaten's Scroll makes this a lot easier. ITEM: At the north end of the map (Sarutobi Sasuke) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF SETO INLAND SEA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: Not particularly difficult, since you can see where they all are on the minimap. ITEM: Behind Hideyoshi's initial position. (Shimazu Yoshihiro) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== HOTBLOODED UEDA CASTLE! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Succeed in the surprise assault on Yukimura. NOTES: The surprise assault is via the hidden path east of Sasuke's initial position - there's a large rock you can break to get to the path. You can still climb up the path after fighting Sasuke, but to get the bonus you have to leave him alone. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== THE GOLDEN LEGEND OF HONGANJI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Make $5000 or more before defeating Kennyo. NOTES: This is tricky without a +1 hit weapon, though characters with good combo abilities like Keiji can do it easily. There are also a number of guys with moneyboxes, treasure chests, and pots you can hit for money throughout the stage, as well as the mob of traitors at the end that are worth a bit of pocket change. ITEM: Near Kennyo (Mori Ranmaru, Zabi) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== KASUGAYAMA NINJA SCROLL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Kasuga and all of her dopplegangers. NOTES: You'll fight the dopplegangers on your way up the mountain anyway, and Kasuga herself will be at half health when you meet her, so it's not hard. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BURNING BATTLE OF THE SOUTH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: Note that this includes the reinforcement troop leaders that appear if you let your own troops poof, as well as Yoshihiro himself (if you're going for the item, it won't appear until after you defeat him). To save your troops in this stage all you have to do is run to their location after they start yelling for help and defeat any enemy commanders near them. The Fire Charm makes you immune to lava damage. ITEM: In the same area as Yoshihiro. (Maeda Toshiie) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== SHIKOKU HEAVY ARTILLERY BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all the artillery units. NOTES: Ie, including the one that appears with Motochika. Obviously having the Anti-Artillery Armor helps a lot here. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== TAKAMATSU CASTLE LANDING BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Get 100 troops boarded before the time limit runs out. NOTES: The time limit's fairly generous, but obviously having Idaten's Scroll (as well as Saizou's Hat, since almost all the enemies are archers) helps. Your troops will not automatically vanish when they encounter an enemy leader if they're within your field of vision. ITEM: Near the ship (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== NAGASHINO CAVALRY CHARGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat the ammo supply troops before they reach Nobunaga's base. NOTES: Get on the horse and charge straight for the north end of the map. Helps if you equip the Gale Saddle. ITEM: Right in front of Nobunaga. Can't miss it. (Takeda Shingen) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== NAGASHINO FIREARMS BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat 20 of the Cavalry Captains. NOTES: The conditions themselves aren't hard, though it's easy to miss the treasure chest because it's tucked up in the corner away from the main fighting area. ITEM: Northwest corner of the map. (Oda Nobunaga, Chousokabe Motochika) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== VILLAGE DEFENSE BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defend at least one of the village houses. NOTES: As long as you keep track of where the assault teams are, not too hard on normal mode, though you could lose time depending on how long it takes you to defeat Nou-hime and Ranmaru. Giantslayer Mask helps, as the assault teams are all of the giant hammer-wielding variety. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== PURSUIT AT HASEDOU CASTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals (not including Keiji) NOTES: One of the generals is hidden in the secret path near the middle of the map. Jump up on the plateau to the north at the first wide clearing in the road and over the gaps in the hanging bridge to get to him. If you're using Sasuke or Kasuga it's easy, but if you're using someone else you have to jump from right on the edge of the third gap to get over it. If you fail just run back around to try again. ITEM: At the last gate just before Keiji's final position (Takenaka Hanbei) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== INTRUDING ON HONNOUJI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat both Nobunaga and Mitsuhide within 2 mins of encountering them. NOTES: If you've saved up your Drive and Basara gauges, quite easy. ITEM: In the same room as the bosses. (Maeda Keiji) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF MIKATAGAHARA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Tokugawa Ieyasu before he activates Tadakatsu. NOTES: After you initially defeat him, Ieyasu will start running for the hills and refuse to stop even when he gets to the plateau where Tadakatsu is parked (he'll just run around in circles). This means that he won't attack you but you'll have to keep chasing him down, so Idaten's Scroll and the Gale Saddle are recommended for this stage. You can find a horse on the left-hand path up the mountain. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== RECAPTURE OF ITSUKUSHIMA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all the artillery units before they're activated. NOTES: This is nearly impossible without the Anti-Artillery Armor and Idaten's Scroll, and even with them you can't afford to stop to fight anything else before you've completed the conditions. Also, while the minimap shows Motochika at the final artillery unit, you won't have to fight him until after you've destroyed it. ITEM: At Motochika's starting location (Matsu) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== INABAYAMA CASTLE TACTICAL BATTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Capture the enemy cannon "Yakumo" NOTES: Said cannon is at the northwest end of the map, and capturing it means that the cover fire hits them instead of you. ITEM: Near your starting location (Uesugi Kenshin) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== WINTER BATTLE OF OSAKA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: This includes the ones standing near Hideyoshi in the castle itself, so you have to kill them (ideally without encountering Hideyoshi) and backtrack for the item. ITEM: Path up to Hideyoshi's room (Date Masamune) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== KYOTO FIGHTING FESTIVAL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat 200 of the dancing townsfolk. NOTES: Every time you break through one of the gates into the town area, you'll be met by a bunch of dancing townsfolk. You can knock them off with one hit while they're dancing, but they'll stop dancing and start attacking after a certain amount of time has passed, so ideally you want to run for one of the horn blowers and stick around them while they summon reinforcements (you won't kill the horn blowers with one hit). It's actually easier to achieve this in Hard/Extreme modes because more enemies get summoned. To make things extra pissy, if you're doing this on Story Mode, regardless of the difficulty there won't be a horn blower in the second area, so all you've got are the guys initially there and maybe a couple of adds if you can carefully not kill the reinforcement captains. Just means you'll need to work extra hard getting kills in the first and third areas. ITEM: The path before the final area where Keiji is. (Sanada Yukimura, Akechi Mitsuhide, Kasuga) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ESCAPE FROM ZABI CASTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: Including the ones near Zabi ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF SHIZUGATAKE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Keiji, Toshiie, and Matsu without conquering any of the forts. NOTES: Essentially you'll have to just charge for the center area and fight all three of them at once. Easy if you're using a character like Nou-Hime with a spammable ranged area attack. ITEM: The center area where the bosses were (Nou-Hime) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== ASSASSINATION AT HONNOUJI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all of the Elite Force captains. NOTES: You can find them on the minimap so it's not hard to track them down. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== REBELLION AT HONNOUJI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Conquer all of the reinforcement points. NOTES: Ie defeat all the guard captains. You'll have to run around a bit to get to all of them. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== REVENGE OF MIKATAGAHARA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Liberate the stolen supplies. NOTES: The earlier parts of this stage are extremely annoying because of the lack of healing items and the masses of cavalry troops, so it might be a good idea to ignore distractions and head for the supply depot. Having the Giant Slayer Mask helps immensely with the large soldiers. ITEM: On the path to the supply depot. (Honda Tadakatsu) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF YAMAZAKI MOUNTAINTOP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Make it to the top of the mountain before Mitsuhide. NOTES: Mitsuhide appears once you've broken through the first gate. He's got a much shorter distance to cover than you do, so ignore everything except the gate guards and run straight for Tennouzan. ITEM: Next to the big tree on the mountain top. (Mouri Motonari) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF UPPER AZUCHI CASTLE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Clear the coliseum area within 3 minutes. NOTES: To clear each wave of attackers, just defeat the guy labeled as "gladiator". You'll encounter 4 waves, normal, ninja, cavalry, and bomb troops. Note that while the troops spawning will change to whatever the next wave is once you defeat a gladiator, any troops already present from previous waves won't just up and vanish, so you might want to save a Basara attack for the arena full of cavalry, ninjas, and bomb troops at the end. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== SUMMER BATTLE OF OSAKA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Honda Tadakatsu within 3 minutes. NOTES: What you're supposed to do is buy time for your artillery to blow him away, but if you've got a sufficiently powerful character you can beat him yourself. See the Itsukushima section on killing bosses quickly. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF KAWANAKAJIMA: EARTH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Break through the Crane Wing Formation within one minute of its activation. NOTES: By which we mean defeat Yukimura (you can ignore Sasuke for purpose of the bonus, though given placement you're likely to have to fight both at the same time). The Giantslayer Mask helps get rid of the surrounding troops. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF KAWANAKAJIMA: HEAVEN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Break through the Cartwheel Formation within one minute of its activation. NOTES: Same deal as above, but you have to fight Kasuga instead. Kasuga is a bit more annoying because she moves around very quickly and it's easy to lose track of where she is, and she'll spam her homing energy bolt attack making it hard to get close to her. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== DUEL OF GANRYUJIMA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat Miyamoto Musashi within the time limit (Conquest Mode only) NOTES: When he loses health Musashi will activate traps of spiked walls/ floor, and he has a rather annoying stone throwing attack, so it's probably a good idea to abuse Drive and Basara to kill him. ITEM: Smack in the middle of the map (Miyamoto Musashi). Since Musashi doesn't have a Story Mode, you get this in Free Mode, and since you can't get the stage bonus in Free Mode, there are no conditions to get the item - just start the stage and it'll be there for the taking. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== DESTINIED BATTLE OF KAWANAKAJIMA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat both Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin within 2 minutes of encountering them. NOTES: You'll probably want to equip the Ice Charm because Kenshin's attacks can immobilize you, making you lose time. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== SURIAGEBARA DOUBLE DRAGON FORMATION ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: Only thing to note is to go after Kojuurou first when you fight both him and Masamune at the same time. ITEM: Final area, near the entrance (Itsuki) =============================================================================== =============================================================================== BATTLE OF SEKIGAHARA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Force the Toyotomi main army to retreat. NOTES: The initial enemies that appear are just the advance force - once you force them to retreat, the main force appears. After you kill enough squad leaders, Ieyasu and Tadakatsu appear, but if you fight them immediately the stage ends, so leave them alone and continue mopping up squad captains to make the main army retreat. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== CRIMSON VS AZURE DUEL ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Clear the stage in one minute. NOTES: Ie, defeat Yukimura. See the Itsukushima section on bosses. ITEM: - =============================================================================== =============================================================================== FINAL BATTLE OF HONNOUJI ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONDITIONS: Defeat all enemy generals. NOTES: A bit of running around, but again they're all visible on the minimap.
