The Special Medals - each of these medals requires special circumstances to earn them. Suggested tactics are given as necessary. Order of the Light Brigade - you must win a battle in which your opponent has greater than five more armies than you have. The easiest way to accomplish this daunting feat is to set your Game Rules as follows: Territory Allocation - whatever you prefer, I prefer automatic Army Allocation - whatever you prefer, I prefer manual Card Value Increase - whatever you prefer, I prefer Standard Chain Fortify - I prefer No, but it can be done with yes Max 12 armies - must be set to no to increase your chances of success Attack Advantage - a MUST!! Having the attack advantage and holding the card of the attacking or defending territory greatly improves your chances of success. Commanders - a MUST!! Having the Commanders set to yes can give you that much needed dice win to take the Order of the Light Brigade! tips: allow your opponent to amass 20 or more armies on one territory, hopefully one that you hold the card for or adjacent to one of your card territories. Fortify the adjacent territory with exactly SIX less armies than your opponent (for some reason, I couldn't get five to award me the medal) and attack. Use mojo dice if you like, it never works for me. Best accomplished in a one on one war against a single EASY opponent in Classic Risk. Iron Stonewall - your opponent must retreat from a battle in which he began with five or greater more armies than you have. The easiest way to accomplish this daunting feat is to set your Game Rules as follows: Territory Allocation - whatever you prefer, I prefer automatic Army Allocation - whatever you prefer, I prefer manual Card Value Increase - whatever you prefer, I prefer standard Chain Fortify - I prefer No, but in this case it might be wise Max 12 armies - must be set to no, the more the merrier! Attack Advantage - this must be set to no, or you will be crushed Commanders - again, set it for no, or you will be destroyed tips: allow your opponent to amass 15 or more armies. Fortify an adjacent territory that looks delicious to your opponent (the final territory in his continent or the entrance to one of your own) with exactly six less armies than your opponent. For some reason, I couldn't get five to work. Best accomplished in a one on one war against a single EASY opponent in Classic Risk. Medal of Orestes - you must conquer two continents in a single turn in which you own no territories. This one is easier than it seems, you will have no problem earning the Medal of Orestes. This unlocks the Bone Dice. Fist of Tamerlane - you must conquer at least 30 territories in a single turn. This can be accomplished in Classic Risk or Capital Risk, but Classic Risk is easier. No unlock. Cross of Storms - you must eliminate all five opponents in the game. No opponent may be eliminated by a computer General. This is another easy medal to receive. Receiving the Cross of Storms unlocks the Heavy Metal Dice. Can only be won when playing Classic Risk against five computer opponents. Lightbringer - you must capture five capitals in a single turn during a game of Capital Risk with five computer opponents. This is easier than it seems. No unlock. Order of the Eagle - you must capture at least one territory in all six continents in a single turn. This can only be done if you do not currently control any continents. This can be earned against any opponent in Classic Risk, Capital Risk or Secret Mission Risk (though it is tough in Secret Mission). Receiving the Order of the Eagle medal unlocks the Gemstone Dice. Heart of Genghis - you must defeat three Generals in a single turn. They must be gone from the game. This can be done only in Classic Risk with at least three opponents. Receiving the Heart of Genghis unlocks the Precious Metal Dice. Auric Orbis - you must win a game of Classic Risk against five Generals with very specific rules. Card Value Increase must be set to By One, Chain Fortify must be set to Yes, Max 12 Armies must be set to Yes. No unlock. Five Against Thebes - you must defeat five of the unlockable Generals with homefield advantage. To do so, when you select the generals (must be the unlockable generals), highlight their picture and press "x". Below their player type, commander name, difficulty setting and color will be an option for `home-field advantage'. You must set this to "yes" to qualify for the Auric Orbis. The Homefield Advantage gives these historic leaders possession of their homeland. This leaves you a continent to yourself, usually Australia, but you should have no problem winning this medal. No unlock. 2.0 Cheat Mode Guide So, you got the Dominato Venti, did you? Well, congratulations for beating the game of RISK: Global Domination. Now it's time to have fun. To enable the cheat mode, simply begin a game of Risk against any opponent. You can play against another human opponent, but when you activate the cheat mode, they too can use the cheat functions. Any human player who has not received the Dominato Venti will not be able to activate the cheat mode. Once the game has begun, territories have been chosen and reinforcements have been placed, you are ready to cheat. During the attack phase of your turn, you can activate the Cheat Mode by using the start button. Once you activate the cheat mode, you will see a confirmation on the screen. At this point, you can begin the festivities. Note: you can only enable the cheat mode during the attack phase of your own turn. This cannot be activated during another players turn, nor during either the place reinforcements stage or the free move phase of your turn. Controller functions - X button - changes a territory. You can change an enemy territory to one of your own, or you may change one of yours to an enemy. To scroll through Generals, use the R2 button. When you find the General you want, place the cursor on a territory you want to change and press X. The general listed at the bottom of the screen will take that territory. You can use this function to take any enemy territory for your own, except for their last. You cannot remove a General from the field of battle using the cheat mode. Square button - increases the existing armies by one. This works for either your territories or enemy territories. Simply place the cursor on a territory and press square to increase the armies by one. Circle button - increases the existing armies by ten. This works for either your territories or enemy territories. Simply place the cursor on a territory and press circle to increase the armies by ten. Triangle button - wipes out all reinforcements and leaves one army. This works for either your territories or enemy territories. Simply place the cursor on a territory and press triangle to remove reinforcements. L1 button - Decreases cards by one. This removes one card from the holdings of the target General, either yours or an enemies. Simply scroll through the Generals using the R2 button and use the L1 to decrease their card count. L2 button - same as a normal game, this allows you to view your own cards. R1 button - increases cards by one. This adds one card to the holdings of the target General, either yours or an enemy. Simply scroll through the Generals using the R2 button and use R1 to increase the card count to a maximum of five cards. You cannot use the cards during the same turn in which you added them, you must wait until the beginning of the next turn. R2 button - scrolls through the Generals in the game. This allows you to perform different functions on a territory, whether you want to change a territory from blue to green or from one enemy to another. This button is required if you want to change the card totals of the players in a game or to change territories, however it is not necessary to select a target General to increase or decrease reinforcements. Well, now that you have the secrets of the Cheat Mode, go on out there and have some fun! 3.0 POWER GUIDE TO MEDALS! Follow these easy instructions to get all the medals with the least amount of work! Battle 1 - Master of Medals For this battle, you want to play a game of Classic Risk against the five default Generals, set on Easy mode. Either use your card cheat (see the codes and secrets to learn about the card cheat) or wait until you have enough leverage with your own cards to do some serious damage. If you use the card cheat, simply take one territory per turn until you have the matching set. If not, you will probably want to secure either South America or Australia to start building your armies. Either way, take at least one territory per turn to get the card. Watch the other Generals, make sure that none of them are defeated by another General, you must get all the kills, and you must get them all on your final turn. Once you have amassed a substantial number of armies, (with card cheat, go for broke, 500+ armies) at a minimum, you need enough armies to wipe out one or two of the other Generals in a single stroke. Pay attention to the player stats, specifically how many cards each General has. If you play your cards right (pun intended), you should be able to start from a single territory in either South America or Australia and conquer the entire world in one turn. Make sure that there are at least two continents that you do not have any territories in, and you will end the game with the following Medals: Medal of Orestes Fist of Tamerlane Cross of Storms Order of the Eagle Heart of Genghis General medal #1 (whichever General you defeat last. Remember which General this is so you do not try to defeat them last again) Battle 2 - March of the Light Brigade For this battle, you want to select a single default General (other than the one defeated in Battle 1) set on Easy. Follow the guidelines under the Order of the Light Brigade game rules setup and begin the game. Try to get the medal during this war, but don't stress yourself too much. If it doesn't happen too quick, just beat the General and take his medal. If you don't get the Light Brigade, select a third default General and try again, this way you will keep getting the General's medals. medals: General Medal #2 Order of the Light Brigade Battle 3 - Breaching the Iron Stonewall If you are lucky like me, you got the Light Brigade in Battle 2, so for this battle, select a third default general set on Easy. Follow the guidelines under the Iron Stonewall game rules setup and begin the game. Try to get the medal during this war, but don't stress yourself too much, you will have plenty of opportunities later. Take the General's medal and move on. medals: General Medal #3 Iron Stonewall Battle 4 - Kicking Ass Select the fourth default General, set on easy and play a quick one on one of Classic Risk. By now, you should be used to the setup and you should be able to make short work of this General. In three turns, you should wipe him out, again, you want Attack Advantage and Commander turned on, Chain Fortify if you like but keep Cards at Standard. During this battle, you should reach your 100th career territory captured. Congratulations! Starts to feel like you are kicking some ass! medals: General Medal #4 Reunification Medal Battle 5 - Batting Cleanup Select the final default General, Easy mode, same game rules. One on one classic Risk. When you are clobbering this chump, you will pass your 25th career continent. Congratulations! Now mop up this fop and move along. medals: General Medal #5 Order of Steel Order of the Conqueror Battle 6 - Scourge of the South Select the Unlockable General Simon Bolivar, Easy mode, one on one classic Risk. Beat him like a drunk Irishman, three turns and he's out! medals: Lion of Bolivia Battle 7 - Can you pronounce it? Select the Unlockable General Pangeran Diponegoro, Easy mode, one on one classic Risk. Seems like old hat, but it is necessary to do this to boost your career kills and career continents. Besides, you need his medal! medals: Medal of Manado Battle 8 - Would you hit a woman? Select the Unlockable General Lakshmi Bai, Easy mode, one on one classic Risk. Try not to bruise her pride as you wipe her off the face of the map. Shake things up a bit, try some new uniforms. Three turns and she's out. You should be approaching 500 career kills, so here you go, your very own Silver Sword! medals: Jade Mongoose Silver Sword Medallion Battle 9 - Excellent! Dude! Like totally select that bodacious badass Napoleon Bonaparte! Instead of taking him to the mall, pop back in your telephone booth and do battle in a classic game of Risk. If you are quite good, a little lucky, and make good use of your chain fortification, you might just wipe him out in two turns. Way to go! medals: Order of San Dimas Battle 10 - Custer's last Stand Select Pontiac, Easy Classic man on man. Three turns to a medal. You're getting pretty good at this! Hey, take a break, it's your tenth win. medals: The Firebird Medal of Jasonic Merit Battle 11 - Getting Boered Select the final General Shaka Zulu. Rinse and repeat. Luckily, this is the last of the Generals. The bad news? You have to beat him. The good news? You get a bonus medal for being so thorough! Way to go! medals: Order of the Boer Crown of Augustus Battle 12 - Capital Punishment Time to shake things up a bit. You have all of your General Medals, time to get something new. Select the five Default Generals (Washington, Catherine the Great, Robert Clive, Ferdinand and Charles Gordon). Play Capital Risk, but don't take any capitals until you are prepared to conquer the world. Collect all five capitals (using card cheat is quite easy for this) in a single turn to collect your latest medal. medals: Lightbringer Battle 13 - Do you have what it takes? Endurance Battle time. Select five Generals and play a game of Classic Risk with a twist. The rules must be set as follows: Chain Fortify on, Cards By One, Max 12 armies on. Not too tough. If you can't take it, card cheat. Moving right along. medals: Auric Orbis Battle 14 - Is anybody home? To get this medal, play a game of Classic Risk against five unlockable Generals (Shaka Zulu, Pontiac, Napoleon, Simon Bolivar, Pangeran Diponegoro or Lakshmi Bai), but you must allow them to have homefield advantage. This is not a difficult task, but if it kicks your butt, card cheat. medals: Five against Thebes Battle 15 through 34 - Will it ever end? Settle into your easy chair, you are in for a bit of a stretch. You must get your career totals up for the next few medals, and this includes career kills, career territories, and especially career continents. Don't worry, when you are good at it, these battles only take twelve to fifteen minutes. Select your General, Easy mode, one on one, Classic Risk. During this stretch of battles, you will reach a few milestones, including the highly coveted 25 wins title. Way to go! Once you reach battle 34, if you have followed the recipe instructions, you should reach your 200th career continent. Take a deep breath, the pain is almost over. medals: Gold Cannon Medallion Order of the Liberator Sun Tzu's Cross Medal of Ulyssean Merit Order of the Philosopher King Battle 35 through 50 - The Home Stretch You can relax, it's all over but the dying. Now it gets easy. Select a General, Easy mode and play a one on one game of Capital Risk. You should be able to finish the game in under 5 minutes with intelligent army placement. Go for broke. Trust me, you will get pretty excited when you approach wins number 48, 49 and finally FIFTY! medals: Medal of Aenean Merit Dominato Venti Do me a favor, will ya? When you are sitting there, looking at your beautiful medal case, just remember old Chem fondly. I hope this game brings you as much joy as it has brought me since 1975. My old man would be proud.
