Version 1.0 [09/29/2005] + First Version. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= Welcome to my Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks Secrets Guide! This is my first FAQ/Guide, so I ask your forgiveness for any mistakes. I thought it'd be nice to make a complete, comprehensive list of all the Red Koins along with a few other tidbits. So hopefully this will be of some assistance to you! Items will be listed by area. Due to the mechanics of this game, that means the Koins are mostly in chronological order. However some Koins require you to back-track after aquiring an ability later in the game. Koins will not just disappear, so feel free to come back to something later if you're having difficulty with it. To help you keep track of special circumstance Koins, I've used the following symbols: [*] A Koin that will require you to backtrack after obtaining an ability. [!] A Koin that unlocks a Character for VS Mode. [+|+] A Ko-Op Koin. You must be have a buddy with you to see or obtain these. *Note: Apparently, there are a few Koins that do not use Ko-Op switches, but simply require you to be in Ko-Op mode to even see them. Since I have not played Solo, I do not know them all. If you find one, please mail me so that I may add it. Now, on with the Guide! =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= =~=~=~=~=~=~= | Quick Index | =~=~=~=~=~=~= Red Koins > Health Upgrades > Smoke Quests > Kano > Thanks > Disclaimer =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Shang Tsung's Island | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= A. Section 1 of Goro's Lair. Simply throw an enemy into the skeleton on the wall for your very first Red Koin. B. Section 2 of Goro's Lair. The Red Koin is hidden in the lower left corner. Now we have a choice. The 1st choice is much easier, but the 2nd allows you to obtain the Koin right at the beginning. A [Simple]: Come back late in the game with the Double Jump ability. B [Skilled]: Lure an enemy into the corner. Launch him into the air toward the Koin. While he is airborne, jump into him and perform an air throw (Aim the throw to your back). This will propel you backwards into the Koin. C. Pit I. While you are on the bridge, fire projectiles at the moon. It can be difficult to find just the right spot. Keep at it and a Koin will appear to your left on the bridge. D. Pit I. Cross the bridge and stand in front of the door to the next area. You will need to drop off the bridge to the south. You'll land on a small platform with a Koin. E. Chandelier Room. You'll notice the obvious Red Koin in the background. But we'll get to that later. For now, toss an enemy high into the chandelier. It will crash down and reveal a Red Koin. F. Stalactite Room. Impale all the enemies onto the ceiling spikes to cause a Red Koin to appear in the lower left corner by the breakable wall. Again, you have a choice. See Koin B of this section for details. G. [+|+] Switches Stalactite Room. Step on the Ko-Op switches. In this next room you and your partner will need to hurl an enemy at each of the bells, relatively close in timing. A bridge will then appear and allow you to obtain the caged Koin seen in the Chandelier Room. H. Pit II. After defeating the boss, long jump across the bridge. At the end you will need to long jump south onto a small platform holding a Koin. It's easier to see if you go into Panoramic Cam. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Wu-Shi Academy | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= A. [*] Long Jump / Fist of Fury / Swing Warrior's Shrine. On the beginning of the Road to the Academy, take a left when the path splits. Hop the pit, Fist of Fury the statue and proceed on. Now, you must jump up to the left, Swing across the Bamboo polls and activate the statue. Inside the gates, inspect the left-most statue 3 times. This triggers a fight with Ermac. Defeat him for a Red Koin. B. Road to the Academy. When you reach the catapault area, head north and knock the Masked Guard into the catapault near him. He'll get splattered and leave behind a Koin. To access it, take the steps up, using the right path. Knock the Tarkata into the stack of Spiked Balls. Now head back down the steps and north, navigating the spike pit. The Red Koin will be against the wall. C. [+|+] Non-existant on Solo Road to the Academy. Right before the spike pit with lion statues will be catapault and Tarkata. Launch him into it. Now backtrack to the stairs. Climb them, head left and your Koin will greet you along with two Tarkata. D. [+|+] Switches Academy Area I. The switches will become active after fighting has ceased in the area. Inside, follow the path to the end for an easy Koin. E. [+|+] Switches [*] Double Jump Academy Area I. This is also in the Ko-Op room. Within the tree branches floats another Koin. Double Jump to get it. F. [*] Wall Run / Double Jump Academy Area I. This one very obscure. Head to the area where you cut the ropes for the large pots. Now there will be wall to your left immediately after you climb up to this area. You will need to Wall Run up that wall and immediately Double Jump to reach the small platform that tops that wall. The lonley Koin will be right there waiting. G. [!] Johnny Cage Academy Area II. Jump atop the building with a Spike Ball imbedded in it's side. Jump onto the ledge to your right. Inside will be the J.Cage VS Koin. H. Portal Pathway. After entering from the Academy, head left to the spiked wall. Two choices: A [Simple]: Late in the game, jump off the right platform, using the tree branch to Swing to the Koin. B [Skilled]: Throw each of the Tarkata into the spikes at different heights and use their impaled bodies as platforms up to the Koin. I. [*] Swing Portal Pathway. Right in front of the portal is a large spike pit. Once you have the Swing ability, stand by the Save Statue and jump left, using the poles to Swing to the small platform with a Koin. =~=~=~=~= | Portals | =~=~=~=~= A. [+|+] Switches Right after you enter from the Academy, head left and up the ramp. Use the Ko-Op switches to extend a platform. Hop up to find your next Koin. B. Right in front of the Foundry entrance is a Golden MK Symbol on the floor. Throw or lure a Tarkata onto it and perform a fatality for the Koin. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Evil Monastery | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= A. Entrance Room. When heading to the next room, look out the first window. This will be the first of several Golden Koins. You must throw a projectile at it to get the Red Koin. B. [+|+] Switches [*] Fist of Fury Spike Room. Step on the Ko-Op switches and enter the underground passage. Inside you'll need to Fist of Fury the statue to raise the gate and nab the Koin. C. Evil Buddha Room. You'll need to impale an enemy on each of the Buddha's spiked hands. Afterwards a Red Koin will appear behind it's head. D. [!] Kitana Monastery Tower. After entering the area, head right until you see a broken collumn. Jump atop it then jump to the left onto the roof. Head all the way left for the Katana VS Koin. E. Kitana Battle. Simply re-enter the area to make a Red Koin magically appear. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Living Forest | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= A. [*] Double Jump / Swing Entrance. Double Jump and grab onto the tree branch south of the Save Statue. Swing up and into the tree village. About halfway through the village you'll run over a flat tree platform that's to the far right of your screen. Look right while standing atop it and spot the Golden Koin. Nail it with a projectile to get your Red Koin. B. [*] Double Jump / Swing Entrance. At the end of the Tree Village [As explained in letter A] you'll run into Mileena yet again. Her defeat nets you another Koin. C. Small Waterfall Area. To the West in this area will be two Clay Soldiers guarding a small structure. Break their shields so that you can throw them into the door on the structure. Inside will be your Koin. D. [!] Reptile Small Waterfall Area. This begins in the Large Waterfall Area. The goal here is to hurl a Clay Soldier into the large stone pillar that stands to the far east in the beginning of this area. After it tumbles, return to the Small Waterfall. You'll find it's now dried up and the Reptile VS Koin awaits your return. E. Large Waterfall Area. The Koin is hidden behind the living tree that is near the Clay Soldiers. Two Choices: A [Simple]: Return with Double Jump for the easy Koin. B [Skilled]: Wall Run up the non-living tree to barely scrape the Koin. F. Snake Head Entrance. Just to the left of the Giant Snake Head, there will be a small stone wall. Hop over the broken corner for a hidden Koin. G. Statue Room. After you defeat Reptile, return here and stand on the center again. After the intense round of statue smashing, you'll be rewarded with Exp and a Koin. H. [+|+] Switches Statue Room. Step on the Ko-Op switches in front of the Buddha. Inside, there will be an obvious Koin to the far right of the room. I. [+|+] Switches Statue Room. Right behind the rock where you found H, will be another hidden Koin. J. The Tunnel. Notice every other arch has a Reptile Eye? The 3rd one is not lit. To light it you will need to give it a smack. Either fire a projectile at it or jump and give it a kick. =~=~=~=~=~=~= | Soul Tombs | =~=~=~=~=~=~= A. Entrance. This can easily be passed by. Right after you exit the portal look to your left for a Golden Koin. Nail it for another Red Koin. B. [*] Wall Run / Double Jump Soul Tomb Main Room. Exactly opposite where you enter will be a large arch. Wall Run up one side and Double Jump into the Koin. (RED PATH) C. Iron Maiden Room. Knock an enemy into each of the Iron Maidens. D. [!] Baraka Balcony Room. Cross the room and climb the wall. To your immediate right will be a statue. Fist of Fury it. Jump right to a small platform, then onto a wooden beam. Then jump to another platform for the Baraka VS Koin. E. Balcony Room. Drop down to the first floor after busting the statue, [As mentioned in D] the Koin should be right there. F. [*] Double Jump Spiked Pathways. Right above the exit into the Butcher Room you'll see a skull switch. Double Jump and kick it to spawn a Shadow Priest on the center platform. Kill him for your Koin. G. [*] Wall Run Butcher Room. First, make sure you've thrown a Tarkata into the Butcher Hooks for the sequence. Then, in the lower left corner of this room, Wall Run up the left wall. This will get you the Koin which is obstructed from view by the foreground. H. Spiked Ceiling Room. Look outside, near the center of the room. A floating Golden Koin awaits your projectile. Note that Liu Kang's fireball does not want to penetrate the wall but Kung Lao's hat does. So if you are Liu and solo, throw a Tarkata into that section of the wall to break it first. I. Fire Grates. In the background will be a skeleton walking around. Pop him a few times with your projectile (or for more fun, skulls lying on the ground ground) until he dies. J. Orochi Room. Stand on the small box-like platform for a few seconds until it lowers and reveals a Koin. (GREEN PATH) K. Chain Room. One of the most obscure Koins in the game. To the right side of the room, watch the chains pass in the background. Eventually one will rise with a 4-Way bone hook attached. Quickly knock a foe into it to reveal your Koin. L. Outdoors. On the center platform launch a Tarkata into a Pteredactyl flying overhead for the Koin. M. Fan Room. Two Choices: A [Simplest]: Come back with Double Jump to easily nab this Koin. B [Simplish]: Pass by the Koin and enter the next room. Knock a Tarkata into the spikes to lower the platform. Hop up and exit the room this way. Now you're on the second level of the Fan Room. From the center platform, knock Tarkata into the fan blades to slow them. Now you can safely Long Jump off the platform into the floating Koin. N. Spiked Platform Room. On the first floor look to the left. There will be a stone statue that you can Fist of Fury. Behind it will be your Koin. O. [*] Wall Run Spiked Platform Room. Right after getting N, Wall Jump onto the small cage for a Red Koin. P. Soul Collection Room. Simply re-enter this room after breaking the orb to find a Red Koin. =~=~=~=~=~=~= | Wastelands | =~=~=~=~=~=~= A. Entrance. Impale an enemy on the large center spike for a Koin. B. Entrance. Climb to the upper area and head slightly to the right. In a little alcove will be your Koin. C. Boulder Room. Make your way to the top. It's very hard to miss this one, it is even shown in the cinematic. It's on the right side of the top area. D. Elemental Knights Room. Re-enter this room to find our old friend the Orc. Beat him again for a Koin. E. [!] Sub-Zero Blood Lake. After your lengthy ride with Sub-Zero you'll be at a large door with two gargantuan Lion statues on either side. Wall Run up the left wall and onto the Lion's back for the Sub-Zero VS Koin. F. Spiked Wheel Room. After climbing Sub-Zero's Icefall, do a Wall Run over the top of the wheel for another Koin. G. Lion's Temple Room. On the far east side of the room, to the south of the save statue you'll find a Golden Koin by the balcony. As per usual, hit it with a projectile. H. Goro's Room. Re-Enter this room after Goro's defeat to find another magical Koin awaiting you. =~=~=~=~=~= | Dead Pool | =~=~=~=~=~= A. Dead Pool. Knock a few zombies into the acid to make a Koin appear high on the metal grating in the background. Simply climb the grating to get it. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Neatherrealm | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~= A. On the first stairway down, preform a Double Jump onto the archway above the stairs to get the Koin. =~=~=~=~= | Foundry | =~=~=~=~= A. [!] Scorpion Entrance. On the lower level, take the northern path past the Save Statue. Two archers will ambush you. Throw one into the cracked wall on the left. A new room opens with a lava pit. Throw an archer into the pit and use his body to hop up onto the ledge with the Scorpion VS Koin. B. Entrance. If you climb the ramp to the higher level, you'll notice a few boards in the background above you. You'll need to Wall Run and jump onto those boards to find the Koin. C. Entrance. There is a wooden shaft almost directly above the Save Statue. You'll need to Double Jump off the higher level and Wall Jump from side to side up to Koin. It can be tricky. D. Foundry Hub. Jump and kick one of the travelling pots to reveal a Koin down on the platforms in the lava. E. Furnace Room. Go inside the furnace and walk left. A Koin is hidden there. F. Orochi Room. Go to the very center of the second floor. Fist of Fury the back wall and you'll reveal a Golden Koin that you need to shoot. G. Ax Forge. The goal here is to catch an enemy in the path of the two large swinging hammers. I find the easiest way to be using the R2 Special and vaulting them upwards as the hammers come together. H. Demonic Fountain. After you obtain the Ax, use it to break the pipes in the Fountain. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Health Upgrades | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= A. Wu-Shi Academy. This one's hard to miss. It's in the Armory that's unlocked as part of the storyline. B. Living Forest. In the Snake Head Entrance area, go to the living tree in the upper right corner. Just to the right of the tree is a small thorn patch. Hop it and climb the wall to a Health Koin. C. Wastelands. In the entrance area go the second level and cross the bridge. Head all the way left to find a Health Koin. D. Foundry. As a reward for defeating Kano, you will be given one last Health Koin for the final fights. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= | Smoke Missions | =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= *You can find Smoke in the Living Forest. Go to the Large Waterfall area and throw a Clay Soldier into the door of the small structure.* A. Enter the Soul Tombs. Proceed through the Green Door. In the Spike Ceiling Room, throw Tarkatas into the 4 central wall panels of the background, revealing a Fatality Code. (For Lui Kang). B. Simply enter the Warrior's Shrine to complete this mission. (Detailed in Wu-Shi Academy A). C. Back to the Soul Tombs. In the Main Room, a new colorless door will open. Once inside you must throw a Tarkata into each of the 3 death traps built into the walls. (The Death Traps looks just like empty platforms) D. This one is simple. There are only 2 Purple Portals. One is just in front of the entrance to the Dark Monastery. The other is on the lower level, above the entrance to the Foundry Area. E. Simply enter the portal to the right of Smoke. You'll be in the Pit II. Your only goal is to kill all enemies that appear. A time saver is to keep throwing them off the bridge. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= =~=~=~= | Kano | =~=~=~= In the prison cells at the end of the Foundry, if you speak to Kitana repeatedly, some guards rush in to attack. Defeat them and head through the newly opened gate. You'll fight Kano with Jax on your side. You'll be rewarded with Exp and a Health Upgrade for your victory. =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= =~=~=~=~= | Thanks! | =~=~=~=~= Well of course I must thank Midway for another enjoyable romp into the ever expanding Mortal Kombat World.
