When you first play Monster Rancher EVO make certain you have enough space on your memory card to save. The only thing more frustrating than going through a tedious first half hour of doing little in the game is going through it twice because you had to reset and make space on your memory card. If you plan on spending a lot of time checking your different CDs for monsters I find it helps two spaces set aside for this, one space for discs you've already checked and one for ones you haven't checked yet. Also because you're opening and closing the disc tray and changing discs so often, make sure to take extra care of your monster rancher disc. I know this is all common sense but it sucks having to spend the money to get a new copy of the game because of one tiny little scratch. This is my first FAQ, so I'm doing my best to add my own bit of humor along the way because as informative and helpful an FAQ should be to read, you should also enjoy reading it too. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Getting Started 10002 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Ok you've sat through the first 1/2 hour and basically done what the game has told you to do. Now you're left without much explanation of what everything does and you're lost, not knowing what to do or who that is. Well here you go. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Menu Explanations 10003 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Title Screen: From the title screen you can choose to start a new game, load a previously saved game, go into versus mode or configure your options. The options you can configure are screen posiion, color and sound options. Any time during normal gameplay you can press [] and several menu options come up. The meeting is essentially its own menu with some options you can only find there. This section is broken up between meeting menu options and normal menu options x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Meeting Menu Options: Albert's Face: This concludes your meeting. Don't choose this until you've finished with the other options Schedule: This is where you can choose what weeks you'll put on a performance, go on an adventure, or just let your monsters practice their tricks. Later on you're able to choose to move to a new town here, but not until you finish the main story of the game. Nayuta: Here you can choose to freeze monsters, unfreeze frozen ones, combine monsters and unlock monsters from your discs and your book. Information: This option lets you control the training for your monsters. You see on the far left the faces of the different trainers you have. Between the trainer and the monster you'll see a heart shaped icon. This fills up over time as long as the same monster is with the same trainer. It signifies how well bonded the trainer and monster are. High bonding means much better motivation. Pressing X on the monster will let you change what monster the trainer trains. The word in bold beside your monster's name is how hard the monster will be working. This also has an effect on their motivation and tiredness. The word underneath that is the monster's attitude. This is a signal for how hard the monster prefers to work. Clicking the little symbol to the right of the monster's policy will let you change what trick they perform. You can only perform a different trick if you have the gadget to perform it with. You'll also see how motivated your monster is and how tired they are. Both of these stats effect how well training will go. The symbol on the far right shows if they will be practicing or resting this week. Option: This option is where you can save and load your game and change the in game settings. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Normal Options: Data: Here is where you can check on the stats of your monster and the moves they have learned, what tricks they can perform, DNA traits, what items you have, what monsters are in your book and what ammounts to the game's world map. Anima Points: Anima Points or AP is the screen where you can use the AP you earn in battles to teach your monsters moves and store union attacks. AP is explained in detail in the adventures section. Program: shows the information you finalized in the Information section of the meeting menu. Remember that you can't change any of the options from here, only view them. Next Week: This is the option you'll use to advance to the next week after you're finished checking on your monsters and visiting the town. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Characters 10004 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Julio: This is who you play as in the game. You can change his name if you want to. He's 15 years old and dreams of one day beincoming a professional moster breeder. He can use a mysterious accordion to help with monster training. Nayuta: She is a mysterious girl who has the power to regenerate Saucer Stones using a strange fan like items. She is curious about Julio and very cheerful and encoraging to him, but seems to have some secrets. Albert: He acts as the head of your circus, and its ring master. He started the circus to make people happy, not to make money. He's polite and very helpful in organizing your training. Marlene: She sometimes seems as mysterious as Nayuta, but this 19 year old is very helpful at training monsters with you. She doesn't seem to like the capital city. Tico: A young boy with a tail that is very good with monsters. He eventually joins up with you and helps you train more monsters. It'll take some convincing though. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Getting Your Monster 10005 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x OK you've done your little training battle with your monster and you're told that you can have additional monsters to train at a time, well it's time to get yourself some new monsters to train. There are a few ways you can go about the task. On your adventures into town, you'll see a little house with a disc symbol above the door. When you go inside here, you're able to talk to the person who is behind the counter and get yourself a sealed monster. You get to chose your name for the monster here as well. They don't have a big selection of monsters but sometimes you can get a rare monster through this method. It's great for finding a monster that you can't get after unlocking all your discs.This saves the monster to a slate. Slates are like monsters you're keeping for later. Unlocking monsters through your CDs/DVDs/games is easily the most popular way of getting a monster. It's what makes this series so unique. At the meeting menu, you can go to the secion that allows you to get new monsters, explained above. By selecting the unlock from disc option and following the on screen prompts, you can use your different discs to get different monsters. You can only have as many actual monsters as you can train, up to 5. After that when you try to unlock monsters from discs, Nayuta will tell you that you can only save the monster to your book, bringing us to the next way of getting monsters. Every time you get a new monster, a record of what that monster is and it's starting stats are saved in your book. Consider the book to be a cloning lab that stores DNA samples of all your monsters. Any time you have free space you can get the book to create essentially a clone of a monster you already have. You can combine monsters that are in slate form as well. Combining in this game is different from other monster rancher games. Instead of the two monsters that you chose to combine becoming fused together to create a new monster, it's more like the monsters have a baby monster. The parent monsters still exist and can be bred again. The best aspect of combining monsters is the effect it has on your monster's stats. Breeding two well trained monsters together is the easiest way to start off with a powerful monster. For example if you trained one monster to have high intelligence and another monster to have high stamina, the baby monster would have higher than usual stats in intelligence and stamina. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Training Walkthrough 10006 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Training your monster isn't the most straight forward thing going in this game. You need to get your monster, you need someone to train them, you need something forthem to train with, you need to do your circus performance to actually see any gains. And that just covers the stat part. The good thing is once you get the hang of it, it's easy to train 5 monsters at a time. And other than practice the best way to get the hang of it all is breaking it down step by step. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x The Meeting 10007 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Each time a new week rolls around you end up in the backroom of your circus with everyone on your circus team. Talk to Albert to get this meeting started. The meeting is really just a specific menu with certain options you can only chose from here. Nayuta's option deals with new monsters. Here you can unlock from discs, combine monsters, seal monsters and get monsters from your book. The rearing information option will let you change what monsters are being trained by whom and how hard in what stats. You also get an overview of how tired they are, how motivated they are and how well they've bonded to the trainer they're with. The red triangle option is your schedule. Here you can choose what weeks you go on adventures, what weeks you're essentially doing nothing and what weeks you're performing. You have to put at least a month between your shows, but if you want to train hard, it's best to perform more often. Selecting the picture of Albert's face ends the meeting and gets you back to your game for the week. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Mini Games 10008 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Once you've chosen your tricks for your monsters and set a date for your circus show, the stat growth for your monsters is now up to how well you perform in your circus. The difference between a weak and a strong monster can come down to how well you do in your performance. Unfortunately for those playing the game, the explanations for these mini-games aren't exactly easy to understand. They are relatively easy to play however so don't give up hope. Besides, what good is an FAQ if it can't help you play your game better? Now the game will give you the option of seeing a long winded and convoluted explanation of how to play these games, here I'll go step by step and break down each aspect of each game. The mini-games are composed of 2 aspects. There's the "matching" aspect that they start with, and the "flash" aspect that the last 2 use. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Minigame #1) You'll notice a row of colored symbols on the bottom of the screen. You'll also notice a collumn of symbols on the right side of the screen too. The goal here is to press the X button when the colors in the corners match. When you time it right you get an increase in score and move on to the next symbol in your row. You only have so much time to do this, and are only able to make 3 misses before you're through. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Minigame #2) This is a much easier minigame to play in my opinion. At the bottom of your screen you'll see a series of buttons matching up to buttons on your controller. Press the buttons in the order they are in your row before time runs out to get a good score. It's that easy x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Minigame #3) Right from the start this game is different from the rest. You'll see a circle with colored symbols moving around inside of it, and a red circle. You'll also see another row of colored symbols at the bottom. The point of this one is for you to move the red circle around, and make it overlap the next symbol in your row at the bottom of the screen. When its overlapping, press X to get points. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x The 'Flash' Aspect After going through the first part of your minigame, you'll end up here with a big colored symbol in the middle of your screen, and three smaller ones moving along the top, left and right sides of the screen. The three smaller ones are different colors, only one will match the color of the middle symbol. When the small symbol that matches the big symbol moves to the centre of it's 'track' move the analog stick in that direction. ------------ Gadgets: ---------- Gadgets are an essential part of training a strong monster. Two monsters of the same species and sub species could be trained by two different people who are both equally good at the minigame aspect of training, yet as long as they are using different gadgets, you will have completely different stats. In fact not using gadgets at all makes for essentially useless training. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Getting a Gadget: Gadget's are complex pieces of equipment, other than your first small set, you'll have to find or buy parts for your gadget, each gadget consists of a tank, a kit and optionally a prop. Tanks determine the main stat to be trained and by how much, the kit determines just what trick it is and what extra stats are trained, and the prop really just effects how much the crowd likes the look of the trick. You can't just build a gadget yourself, you're a monster breeder not a mechanic. Thankfully once you get to the second town you'll be able to get the gadget shops to build them for you for a small fee. Gadget shops are also a great place to get gadget parts, however they can also be found exploring and traded for gems in Albert's home town. -------- Performances -------- Performances are where all your training comes together and the stats start to grow. When the actual performance is going on, you'll see a stick figure in the circle in the bottom right corner, surrounded by pictures with your monster underneath. This is to show how excited your audience is (the stick figure part) and how well your monsters are doing percentage wise (0 is not good, 100 is what you're aiming for) You'll also see Albert in the middle and you'll be able to run up to the giant clown heads to start the mini-games. How well you do in the mini-games is how well the monster does. The key is to keep running around between clown heads and doing tricks to get all your monsters up as high in percentage as you can. In between tricks the audience will toss out money for you to run around and collect as well, the key is to balance the money grabbing with the mini-games, you only have a small ammount of time to run around and if you wait too long, Albert will simply start the next trick, so don't dilly dally. After all the performances when time runs out, you'll see everyone take a bow before going to the actual stat gains of your monsters. Notice that the ones who performed best (and who are in their prime training time age wise) will get optimal stat gains. Using gadgets and optimal training it becomes easy to get a powerful monster. Keep in mind the best stat gains occur when your monster hits their prime, I find that occurs after several months of life. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Adventures 10009 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x The meat of your storyline in the game comes from the adventures you go on. In theory it's possible to train monsters of almost every type up to pretty high stats without finishing even the first adventure, but by ignoring the adventure aspect of the game, you're missing out on battles, learning abilities, finding items, etc. Before you go on an adventure, you can get missions from the guild in the town. This is where you can earn money and items by performing certain tasks in adventures like killing a certain ammount or type of monsters, etc. Just go talk to them after completing the requirements and you'll get your reward as long as you accepted the mission. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Basic Exploration 10010 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x When the week rolls around that you set aside for an adventure, you'll be prompted to choose which 3 monsters to bring with you, they're battle formation and what equipment you can give them. When you actually start your adventure, you'll be in whatever area you're exploring with your monster. Pressing O will bring up a map. On your map the red dots are wild monsters to fight, the blue dots are treasure boxes to open and there is sometimes a big G on the map telling you where to go. When battling monsters in the wild, try to sneak up on them, rather than have them come running straight after you. You start out with an advantage in guts this way rather than giving the wild monster the advantage. Since there aren't a lot of places to heal your monster while you're adventuring, you'll probably want every advantage you can get in battle, to keep your monster's HP up. Walking towards your monster you can ride him by pressing R1 if they're big enough to support your weight. While walking with your monster, the monster will occasionally stop and make a noise, while a purple icon is shown on the ground. This means the monster has sniffed out an item, just go up to the purple icon and press X. Some are just gems that can be traded for more items, some are equipment, make sure to go through your items after you've finished exploring to take stock of what you've found. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Battling 10011 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Battling can be anything from a one on one, to a three on three affair. At first you'll only be able to use your starting monster, but after a simple tutorial battle giving you the basics of moves, you'll be able to get right into the three on three. Another tutorial sets up how to use your team effectively together. The tutorial flies by so fast, its easy to miss an important bit of information and not be able to understand an aspect of battling which can hurt you later in the game. Here we have the basics of battling: x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Monster Movement: Out of your three monsters in battle, you can cycle between the one you want to move/chose attacks for by pressing the R1 or L1 button. While the monster you want to move is selected, you can move them forward or backward by simply moving your analog stick forward or backwards. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Monster Attacks: To choose an attack for your monster, just press the X button and a list of possible attacks your monster can perform come up. Your monster is limited by what attacks it has learned so far and how much 'guts' your monsters have. Certain monster attacks are only effective at certain distances from your oponent. That's why moving your monsters is so important. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Battle Flow: Your monster can't simply use moves continuously. Your entire team has a sort of MP called guts. You'll see the ammount of guts you currently have at the bottom of the screen. Keep in mind that this number applies to all three of your monsters, for example if you had 20 guts accumulated and your first monster uses an attack costing 10 guts, you would only have 10 guts left for your other monsters to use. Thankfully this number keeps going up for both you and your opponent during battle. (Well not so much thankfully for your opponent, but you know what I'm getting at) When you're low on guts, it's probably best to plan your attacks wisely, when you're higher in guts, use the opportunity to take out your opponent's HP with stronger attacks. Close range attacks require you to get your monster close to your opponent. When you get too close and red circles appear under you and the opponent, it means that you're locked together with the opponent. You can only target eachother until you become unlocked. You can do this by continually pressing the [] button. Certain techniques your monster learns depend on having your guts above or below a certain number. Depending on the technique, let your guts work to your advantage. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Battle Extras: Depending on the positioning of your monsters in battle, you can use union attacks and continuous attacks: x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Union Attacks: After stocking up enough Anima Points to use a Union attack (see Anima Points secion below) you're able to use a union attack in battle as long as your monsters are considered to be lined up (with green circles underneath them) and your guts must be high enough. (at or above 50, each union attack consumes 50 guts) This is a very strong attack that can easily take off huge ammounts of your enemy's HP, if not kill them all outright. The only downside is the large ammount of Anima Points required to stock up the attack. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Continuous Attacks: When your monsters are lined up (green circles underneath them) you'll be able to choose moves for both of the monsters. This allows the moves to be combined together and have the effects of the attacks power up, certainly an advantage. Also with certain techniques you can alter the effects of continuous attacks. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Anima Points 10012 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Anima Points, or AP are like experience earned by a character in an RPG. On the menu screen for in adventures or just when you pause. You can do 3 things with your AP, all by choosing AP from your menu. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Union Attacks: You need Anima Points to use a union attack. You can allocate points to be used for this by pressing the R1 button on your controller. AP points will start going down from the monster's totals, and the bar at the bottom of the screen will fill up. When you fill up the bar, you get to use a union attack in battle. Be careful about how you use this though. You can store up to 9 union attacks, however the ammount of AP needed to store an attack increases after each attack you store. For example, it takes 100 AP to store your first attack, but it takes 200 AP to store that second attack. The advantages of this is that in a single battle, you can use 2 union attacks (or 3 or 4 or however many you have stored up), the downside is that the ammount of total AP needed grows exponentially, making it a balanced system. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Moves: Unlike previous monster rancher games where you learn new moves somewhat randomly from errantries (I know that there was a lot more to it than just being random, but it certainly 'felt' random) Here you spend AP to teach and upgrade your monster's moves. Beside each monster's face on the AP screen, you'll see the ammount of AP the monster has to use and two little icons you can select with the X button. One is techniques, that's covered next, the other one covered here will teach moves to your monster. Choosing this icon sends to you the screen where you'll see a list of moves on the right, they're cost in AP to learn and on the left of the screen you'll see information about what the move actually does, givng you an idea of which moves you'll actually want to teach it. Some moves are simply an upgrade of moves you already have, meaning they can't be learned unless you have already learned the move it upgrades. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Techniques: The best way to explain techniques is to think about characters in RPGs. Usually a character has special attacks and magic to use, but also have abilities to make them stronger, enhancing magic of a certain element, or increasing your defense, or whatever. That's what techniques are for your monster. And just like the moves, you chose them in just about the same way. By selecting the techniques icon with X, you'll go to a similar screen. You can start chosing techniques to learn right away, but keep in mind that there is a limit of the number of techniques a monster can learn, and that there are different kinds of techniques, some affect your offense, some affect your defense, some affect the flow of battle. Once you're at this screen, press R1 and L1 to cycle through the different kinds of techniques and make sure you think hard about what techniques you really want. Just like the moves, there are some techniques that are an upgrade of ones that you already have. Thankfully the upgrades replace the original technique just like with moves, so there's no need to worry about wasting your technique space for upgrades. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Bestiary 10013 x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x This section details all the different monsters in the game, their breed and sub-breed, the games description of specific monsters and my point of I try to give an over view of what the main species is like as a whole in terms of looks and strong/weak points. After each specific species I give you the write up straight from the game. (With translation errors fixed where appropriate) Each monster has a main and sub breed, which come in many combinations, but there is one type that can only be used as a sub-breed. the "???" or mystery type makes for some interesting looking monsters that are often there for laughs, but end up being quite powerful and desirable in some cases. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Beaklon Monsters: 10014 These monsters are like big beetles. Their strong points are its power and defense, speed is a little lacking. Beaklon (Beaklon/Beaklon) A large insect tpe monster whose main strength is its power and stamina. Very popular with boy breeders, who are said to hold eaklon tournaments in secret. A species under the spotlight! Beerock (Beaklon/Golem) aka heavy stone. There are ones weighing over a ton. It is very adept at using its sharp body and weight for attacks. It is relatively obedient, easy to raise. Centurion (Beaklon/Durahan) Its body covered in special alloyed metal, is well known for its resistance. But it bears its heavy weight with its very small legs, so be careful not to hurt its knees Ducklon (Beaklon/Ducken) In order to raise this monster, ou should not feed it too mch. Do not to look into its face and do not demand too much from it. These points are crucial. Keep them in mind. Jelaydon (Beaklon/Zan) A sharp body is a weapon in itself. For this reason, the association calls for caution when training it. For a big monster, it weighs very little. Kanabron (Beaklon/Maya) Its horns are very good, but its claws are its main weapon. The sharp claws are known as Iron Claws, and you would not want it on your bad side. Things would get ugly Melcarba (Beaklon/Hengar) A battle machine without emotions. Its covered in a special super antique body that is hard and resistant to corrosion. But it has many many weaknesses, such as being scared of heights. Orchestron (Beaklon/?) A possessed trumpet used by a famous trumpeter is said to have turned into a monster. By combining with various musical instruments, it is able to perform as an orchestra. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Dragon Monsters: 10015 Well for just about every monster rancher fan, an explanation isn't necessary. Dragons are big, strong and when well raised, make mince meat out of your opponents in battle. Dragon (Dragon/Dragon) All breeders want the chance to raise the mighty dragon at least once in their careers. Its razor sharp claws can rend steel and it even has wings to fly! Corkasus (Dragon/Beaklon) It has the hardest shell amongst all dragons. The horns are said to be able to penetrate anything. Nobody knows which is stronger between the horns and shell Crevasse (Dragon/Tiger) There is rumor it quietly inhabits a cave in the northern lands. It is usually living in tranquility, but is infamous for its fury towards anyone trespassing into its land. Diabolos (Dragon/Joker) The "King of Dragons" this monster was let loose from its sleep by evil sorcery. Now that sorcerrer is no mor, and so it wanders alone, seeking blood. Gurlock (Dragon/?) Who loves the "Official S PlaySation Magazine"? Gurlok! He gets so much snazzy info from OPM, that he's had a tattoo roclaming his love for the mag inked onto his belly Niezheg (Dragon/Naga) When the end of the world approaces, the Niezheg arrive in droves from the ends of the earth. According to the legend, the boy's illness has since cured. RockDragon (Dragon/Golem) In a long-ago war between gods and demons, this monster weielded a flame that burned for seven days and nights. Beware its godlike wrath. You might be next! Sraosha (Dragon/Maya) A monter with beautiful wings on its flexible boy. It is called "jade in body form" Once trust is established, it will sely show its ability in keeping with it's nickname. TechnoDragon (Dragon/Henger) An ancient weapon made from the dragon. For all the vast power it wields, the creaking sounds of this monster's body mix with the groans of its victims. x-----------------------------------------------------------------------------x Ducken Monsters: 10016 Duckens are like little toy ducks with multi colored bellies. They are fun to train and are good on speed and defense, life and power aren't so good though Ducken (Ducken/Ducken) This mody monster used to be someone's toy long ago. It doesn't have a serious thought in its head and does whatever it wants, but ended up leaarning a lot somehow Blocken (Ducken/Golem) It can withstand most attacks with its stone-made body, although its goggling eye is a weak-spot needing close protection, it treads on it by mistake and staggers about in agony GrapaDuck (Ducken/Naga) Its appearance is nothing special but it thinks it is really cute. It thinks everyone is running away because they are shy. It is rmored to eat its own flesh from the stomach sometimes. MachuPicchu (Ducken/Hengar) It looks all high tech but it actually uses a spring to move around. Apparently it is hard to match the gears in good timing. You should let him off when he makes small errors. MagaMocken (Ducken/Maya) A baby onster with a cool green body that crawls on fours. The big ears look like a decoration, but it can hear things clearly. Although whether they are really ears or not is unknown. Miyabiyakan (Ducken/?) Known otherwise as the king of festivals. Its body shines with glitter and it has a true latin heart, whose dancing samba attracts many, alhough its strength in batles is largely unknown Paradocken (Ducken/Gitan) Its glare from the eye of its bod is sure to scare away most enemy monsters. The fact that the eye is its main attack must be tightly concealed. It's actually quite cowardly Pitan (Ducken/Ripper) There are no srprises here, a scheming character that keeps its intentions in the dark. Its sharp-edged wings are weapons to be wary of. PumpkiDuck (Ducken/Pancho) Ducken likes pmpkins. Its present state is due to eating too many pumpkins. Think Nightmare from Soul Caliber. Don't fret, just try them again later on down the line. Durahans are great in defense. AquaKnight (Durahan/Lesione) The soul of a knight which defeated the dragon by the shore reside in this sword. It is sharply edged enough even to split water in half and is suited for battle near water. Berserker (Durahan/Naga) A knight that has gained its power from the dark side by working for the king of darkness. It possess nothing of the likes of knighthood, and commits itself to all kinds of evil and inumanity. Curevis (Durahan/Pancho) This phantom knight, clad in pumpkin armor, uses its hatchet to punish monsters who dare to wreak havoc in its pumpkin patch. It wears a pumpkin god on it's waist. Durahan (Durahan/Durahan) Help the weak, shatter the strong. It has been said that the mighty soul of the ancient knight reside in the armor. It fights for loyalty and for justice. Genocider (Durahan/Joker) The knight of death skull appears from misty darkness with a vigorous thunder and will disapeaar again. It's sword steals life from all living things and is able to slice through even stone. Glacier (Durahan/Tiger) The chosen one with a brave heart and a calm mind which was born in a world encapsulated in ice. The soul of the chosen one resided in this armor, and became known as Glacier. Goldie (Durahan/Suezo) A mysterious knight that once guarded a flourishing golden capital. But this capital suddenly vanished, and now the knights eyes reflect the king's curse. OmoroKnight (Durahan/Ducken) An armor shining in three colors. If you hold your laughs and give it close observation, you will realize that it is a pretty good armor. SpiritKnight (Durahan/?) SpiritKnight is the knight of all knights. The shining helmet is a symbol of this. It cleans it every day. Vesuvius (Durahan/Dragon) People call it the "Flaming Knight" It has obtained the eternal soul by defeating the legendary Dragon living in the flaming volcano. But this one is more eccentric than it looks, so it needs good taking care of. MocchiGaru (Garu/ Mocchi) MocchiGaru was a guard at a high ranking office. Ith hates bulling, and when the enemy is a big monster, MocchiGaru will grow in size itself to match the enemy. Shidao (Garu/Ripper) Shido is said to be able to predict weather and earthquakes. But it won't share the prediction with anyone. Try touching the tip of its nose, if it is wet, it will rain tomorrow. TriEye (Garu/Suezo) Wolfie (Garu/Tiger) If ou are in pursuit of cueness and coolness together, Wolfie is the choice for you. If you want strength on top of that, that is up to you. Zabel (Garu/Zan) The first person who saw Zabel sealed it under a spell in surprise. As Garu is called the "child of the sun", this one is called the "child of the moon". example is much higher quality than Nut 2.  If you want to make better quality
items to give your monster, use better quality materials.

CrystalPetal: A flower with petals that are as clear as crystal. Tico's 
treasured possession, you receive it along with him, and it is key in unlocking
the Maya breed. 

Hengar Parts Parts from a Hengar, an ancient weapon. Filled with sorrow. These
items are found within the Factory (your second adventure), and allows you to
unlock the Hengar breed. 

Certificate: A certificate given to officially recognized breeders. You receive
this item after finishing your adventures in Campana. 

Mask Fragment: A fragment of mask of the Queen of Warp's monster. You receive
it after completing your adventures in Tongue Bool, and it unlocks the Joker 
breed. 

Red Feather: A beautiful fiery red feather. Received after winning the sage's 
first challenge in Maomao Jungle. 

Blue Feather: A beautiful pure blue feather. Received after completing the 
sage's second challenge in Maomao Jungle. 

Yellow Feather: A noble-looking yellow feather. Received after finishing the

The Gadgets are used to perform different tricks in the circus show, allowing
you to train different stats of the monster.  The better the gadget, the better
the training.

Gadgets are composed of up to 3 types of parts, the effect kit, the tank and
optionally the prop part.

Props are extra little bits that add to the look of your trick giving it flash
and sizzle.  So far I've been unable to figure out just what effect the prop
has on the training, but hey, they do add a cool visual effect

Equipment are items you give your monsters before heading off on an adventure.
You can get different classes of Equipment, and each color of equipment has 4
levels to it, coming in 8 different colors.  These colors are Blue, Red, Green,
Yellow, Black, White, Silver and Gold.

All the equipment has a positive stat effect when equipped and a seperate 
effect(s) depending on the class of equipment.  Each type of equipment has 
essentially the same positive effect, (eg Gloves = Pow Up) The color and level
alter the secondary effects and by how much.

From the main menu you can choose Vs Mode, a two player battle between two
trainers sets of monsters.  Each player must load a file, select monsters to
battle, choose your formation, etc and then battle like a normal battle.  After
the end of the battle you'll be able to ...

Question 1) What happened to my Arrowhead? (This is actually more of a
rhetorical question on my part than answering anyone in particular)

Answer) Well there are some monster species that just didn't make it into this
sequel.  Some long time favorites like Phoenix, Arrowhead and Wracky simply
aren't here.  Will they be in another sequel? Possibly but that's up to Techmo
and for all we might not even get a sequel.  (not trying to be pessimistic with
this answer, just saying you never know, they could go bankrupt and not be able
to put out games)

Question 2) When should I stop training my monster and use it for combining?

Answer) This answer all depends on other things going on in your game.  Are you
going on an adventure in the next couple of weeks?  If you are and want to just
go through it fast and move on, then it might not be a good idea.  However this
is a good way of getting some AP on a newborn monster.  Another thing to ask
yourself is do you have a strong monster to combine it with?  If you do you get
a much stronger monster than if its just combining with a newborn.  Thankfully
this isn't much of a problem since you can train 5 monsters at a time.

Question 3) All I seem to be getting are Hares?  Where's my #*$^ing Dragon I
was supposed to get from this disc?

Answer) If all you seem to be unlocking is Hares, and you've used PS2 discs,
DVDs, CDs, PS1 games then you need to get some maintenance done on your PS2.
It can be as simple as cleaning it, using your warranty (like most people
actually have a valid warranty on their PS2s anymore) or voiding your warranty
and fixing it yourself.  For example my PS2 would only read new PS2 games.
It wouldn't read PS1, CD or DVD discs.  After cleaning it (I didn't care about
the warranty because I bought mine used anyways) it works just like new.

If you heard that you can get a specific monster from a specific disc and it
gives you an entirely different monster, than one of 2 things has happened:

1) Wherever you ended up getting your information from is wrong
2) You're using a different pressing/version of the disc
example: Donnie Darko gives you RoboRabi V, but not Donnie Darko: The Directors
cut.  (a very cool movie by the way)

Answer) Thank you and maybe.  In order for anyone to put this guide on their

Answer) Well yes I'd love the help, again if you want to do that for me, e mail
me and I'll gladly give full credit to whoever specifically helps me.

Question 6) How come you don't have a guide for what disc(s) give you which
monster.  I need to know how to get the monster I want?

Answer) Well personally I don't have enough discs to use for unlocking and
making a detailed enough guide of the specifics.  Yes I was able to get info
for every single monster you can get, but thats because I used cheats to get
them all in my book.  I don't necessarily like using cheats, especially for
raising monsters since it's not that hard.  But when writing a guide it makes
getting information for all items/monsters/etc a lot easier.

To helpfully answer your question, check out message boards at top quality
websites like gamefaqs.com and monsterrancher.com  They are great resources to
use, as they were for me while making this guide.  Until someone makes an FAQ
for that exact purpose, then stick with those sources

Question 7) When I do a two player battle, do my monsters gain stats or AP?

Answer) Check out the versus battle section and you'll get all your answers.

Question 8) You mention in your credits about codes for Action Replay, can you
show me them?

Answer) Well I always thought a big section of codes like that belongs in its
own guide or its own site.  Check out the official website for action replay
and you'll find the codes there.
