But... Here it is! The bowgun creation guide is missing small price information and attack information, and the ammunition guide is missing some prices on materials. Without the combat guide, it's about 95% complete. With the combat guide, maybe 80%. If you need information on how to use certain ammunition, go through the Gunner's Party Guide. There is a lot of information on all different ammo types that can be used as a regular gunner. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ [S2.1] /\/\Controlling Your Gun/\/\ ---------------------------- The controls and movements for a gunner are very different than those of a blademaster. Unlike a hunter weilding a Great Sword, Lance, or Sword and Shield, a gunner can't block attacks, so a gunner is required to rely on good timing and rolling. Similar to Hammers, Sword and Shields, and Dual Swords, the gunner's movement is, at best, a jog while a light bow gun is drawn. Also, like Great Swords and Lances, a gunner having a heavy Bowgun drawn is restricted to a walking pace. The draw time of a light bow gun is faster than that of a heavy bow gun, as well as its "sheathing" time; a heavy Bowgun takes a little longer than a Great Sword or a Lance. All your basic controls are the same. Moving, running, rolling, climbing, using items, and kicking are all done with the same buttons as if you were using a blademaster. You can also use your gun for a melee attack while having it out. Push the right analog stick away from you to perform this move. To load your gun, just pull the right analog stick towards yourself. Changing ammunition is done by holding down the L2 button and using the '/\' or 'X' buttons to cycle through your supply. Note that only ammunition compatible with your gun will show up on this list. To fire your ammunition, press the R3 button. Your gun has to be loaded to do this, if it isn't loaded, your character will shake the gun and look inside. To access your Scope screen, simply press R1. If you have attached a Zoom Scope to your gun, you can move the right analog stick (or control pad) left to zoom in and right to zoom out. You can aim with crosshairs without going into your scope by holding L1 and using the directional pad or left analog stick. Using these crosshairs is relatively more difficult to aim with for the not so experienced gunners. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ [S2.2] /\/\Bowgun Creation Guide/\/\ ----------------------------- [S2.2-I]........................Choosing Guns by Hunter Rank [S2.2-II].......................Heavy Bowgun Guide [S2.2-III]......................Light Bowgun Guide NOTE: This section is also not complete, but there's so little to do on it, that it's hardly noticable. Every time I logged on MH, it wasn't the right sale day ...Which sucked. So again if you have or can get this information for me, I'd really appreciate it! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [S2.5-I] :::Support Ammo::: ------------------ Support ammo is used, basically, to support your party. True support ammo is the kind where it alters party members' status in positive ways. There are only four true support ammo types, but there are others that can be considered support, though are generally used in combat. The following is a list of ammunition that can successfully be used for some form of party support: ------- Recovery Shot Poison Shot Tranq Shot Antidote Shot Stun Shot Paint Shot Demon Shot Sleep Shot Dung Shot Armor Shot The first column is your true support ammunition. Here's why: Recovery Shot is used to heal party members, Antidote Shot is used to cure poison status on party members, Demon Shot is used to increase party members' attack, and Armor Shot is used to increase party members' defense. You can't use those four ammunition types any other way to benefit your party. The second column is combat/support ammo, meaning it is more combat than support, but can still be considered support. This is because they either do more damage to monsters, or by using the ammo, it helps cause more damage. Poison Shot does damage over time if you successfully poison the monster, Stun Shot immobilizes the monster to allow your party to go all out on it without fear of personal injury, and Sleep Shot also immobilizes the monster, possibly allowing for a smooth escape. You can still consider them support ammo for all these reasons, though. In the third and last column, the three ammo types are support/combat. Can you guess why? Yes, they are more for support than combat. But they can't support your party by increasing their stats, or curing them. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [S2.3-II] :::Combat Ammo::: ----------------- Combat ammo is used in combat. Hard to figure it out, I know. Okay so there are 7 combat ammo types. There are ALSO six others considered combat, but I explained them in "Support Ammo" so I'm not doing it again. Okay, so the ammo types are: Normal Shot Crag Shot Dragon Shot Pierce Shot Clust Shot Pellet Shot Disc Shot Basically, these ammo types are combat because they do direct damage to a monster. As far as I know, it can't get any more basic than that! _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [s2.3-III] :::Combining Ammunition::: -------------------------- +--------+ +------------+ |Combo | | Ammo Level | |Success | +-------+ +------+ +-----|----------++--|-----+ |Stack | | Ammo | | | Style | | .__|Amount | +----------+ +-|----+ | +--|----+ | | +-----------------+ |Materials | v v v v v | Reserves | | Needed | Normal Shot Lv.1 (Combat) N/A [99+] {00}<------------+ +----------| Inexpensive ammo for novices. It will be added to this guide when as I finis it! Sorry Things to remember... Take advantage of a ledge where possible! They are there for you to use, so use them! Remember that some ledges can't even help keep you out of danger (Forest and Hills area 9, Jungle area 6. etc). Diablos can still smack you around, and the Rathalos can still spit fire all over you. If your party complains about you using a ledge, just shoot them too... There is an exception, however, don't use a ledge if you're insanely far away from a wyvern. Normal Shot does more damage the closer that you are to the monster, and Pierce Shot (as well as the initial contact from Crag Shot) does more damage if you are furthur away from the monster. There are more specific factors to this, and you can find all the information under VampireCosmonaut's Range Modifiers section in his Bowgun Damage Formula FAQ for MH:F. Bowgun Damage Formula FAQ © Vampirecosmonaut and DaiIchiban http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/928336/43958 As Dailchiban pointed out, bowguns ARE close-ranged. Where it says "you do not need to be in the wyvern's face, keep your distance!" That doesn't mean stay as far away as possible. However, it means that you don't need to be waving your fragile butt infront of its nose, or laying around under its belly. Just use some common sense. And, the larger the distance between your gun and the creature, the longer it takes for your bullet to reach the creature. Sorry I didn't clarify what I meant the first time around! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ [S3.2] /\/\Gunner's Party Guide/\/\ ---------------------------- [S3.2-I]........................The Medic [S3.2-II].......................The Avenger [S3.2-III]......................The Bombardier [S3.2-IV].......................The Assassin Below are four job specific gunner strategies, two of them are Support-Based and two of them are Combat-Based. Before you read on, please understand that I do not mean to say that "Unless you use these strategies, you're a terrible gunner!" Most gunners don't gear up to take roles in the party, but there are times when it is useful. In the strategies, I'm not going to explain how you should perform this job step by step, but rather, I'm going to provide some guidelines. Alter them as you see fit for your skills and your party's needs. Also understand that the strategy section of each job is NOT completely factual, and I am currently going through and fixing my mistakes so I'm not misleading all of you. As I said earlier, these are meant more as guidelines that you can alter how you see fit. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-I] :::The Medic::: --------------- The Medic is possibly one of the most useful gunners to join a party, especially on those particularly difficult quests. The job of a medic is to heal or cure each party member as needed to help ensure a safe victory. _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-Ia] Gear Requirements ----------------- Bowgun Requirements ------------------- Any light bowgun with the capability of using the following ammunition: At Least Recommended Compatible Guns -------- ----------- --------------- Pellet S: 1 Pellet S: 12 Crossbow Gun+ Recovery S: 1 Recovery S: 12 Hornet Gun Antidote S Antidote S Shotgun (Azure) Paint S Shotgun (Emerald) Shotgun (Blood) Valkyrie Fire Sandstorm Maelstrom Armor Requirements ----------------- You can use any armor you want, really. It only works for Antidotes, not Antidote Herbs.* **Wide-Area Recovery enables you to heal party members by using a Potion on yourself as long as the party members are in the same area. Mind you, it doesn't heal by much, and it only works with Potions. Herbs, Sushi Fish, First Aid Meds, Mega Potions, Max Potions and Ancient Potions will not work.** Inventory Requirements ---------------------- Take as many combo books as you can. A lot of these things are just materials needed for a back-up supply.* _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-Ib] Strategy -------- First of all, make sure your party KNOWS you're playing the medic. You don't want them running around healing themselves and wasting time and money while you're just healing them anyway! So the main thing about being a medic is actually paying attention to everyone in the party instead of just yourself. If you see the rest of your team get hit at the same time, but they don't take enough damage to call for a Life Powder, then don't use one. This could be a time when just one Recovery Shot 1 or 2 will do the trick. The good thing is that you can hit all members of the party at the same time, so start experimenting with how to aim in order to make the most of each shot AND DON'T WORRY! If you hit the monster with Recovery Shot, it really doesn't do anything worth getting upset over. So, instead of just watching the other players, keep a close eye on their health and status. Once their health starts getting low, it's your cue to do your stuff. When you see the poison symbol, fix the problem. Since you're a medic, there is no reason why you need to be in the monster's face, and since you should be using a light bowgun, there isn't much of an excuse to get caught in a reload as the monster charges, or some fire comes your way. Because of these reasons, you should be able to use your potions to make Recovery Shot 2. Take your three First Aid Meds from the supply box, just in case. If you happen to need to use a Potion, that's okay. You should be staying just close enough to the party to enable you to act fast, but still keep enough distance so that you're not in the monster's melee radius. If you stay far enough away that ranged attacks can never hit you, you probably will end up doing a very poor job at being a medic. If you use the Recommended list exactly, you will have 40 Recovery Shots, 12 are level 1 and the other 28 are level 2. So when you run out of Recovery Shot 1, start using Level 2. Then when you run out of those, use your Potions to make more. If you run out of Potions, you can just make more by taking Blue Mushrooms and Herbs with you. Use Recovery Shot to your discretion. Life Powder is VERY useful because it works on the user and on every party member in the same area as the user. You might save those until two or three party members get injured, for example, everyone getting totaled by Plesioth's hip-check. Then it would be a good time to use a Life Powder. You can only take a maximum of three pre-made Life Powders, however, you can take the supplies to make 20 more of them so that you don't have to worry about not having them when you need them the most. The Health and Antidote Flutes aren't a must have. I just tossed them in the list as something you could take along for the ride if you really needed them. Though, sometimes they break fast so it's rather inconvenient. Even if you use an armor combination that allows you to take advantage of Wide-Area Recovery or Antidote, you should still take Antidote Shot and Recovery Shot with you. Ten Potions and Antidotes likely won't be enough. Especially considering how little health Wide-Area Recovery actually provides. Again, there is no reason why you should be in the wyvern's face. You shouldn't get hit by Basarios' poison cloud, or Rathian's back flip. But just in case you do, or an Ioprey spits on you, take 10 Antidotes with you. Antidote Shot has a max number of 99 shots per stack, so just take how ever many you think you will need. Don't bother about materials to make more, since you can carry lots! The Pellet Shot is in case of sleep or knock out. You don't have to take it, it can be substituted by any other ammunition, but Pellet is the one that deals with sleep and knock out the fastest (considering that you don't have to aim, and it can hit your whole party). _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-II] :::The Avenger::: ----------------- An Avenger focuses on using the main support ammunition types. Their job is to enhance a hunter's attributes to aid their success, as well as to limit the monster's capability of surviving. _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-IIa] Gear Requirements ----------------- Bowgun Requirements ------------------- Any bowgun with the capability of using the following ammunition: At Least Recommended Compatible Guns -------- ----------- --------------- Normal S: 2 Normal S: 2 Crossbow Gun** Poison S: 2* Poison S: 12* Crossbow Gun+ Stun S: 2* Stun S: 12* Hornet Gun** Sleep S: 2* Sleep S: 12* Shotgun (Azure)** Pellet S: 1 Pellet S: 12 Shotgun (Emerald)** Paint S Demon S Shotgun (Blood) Armor S Valkyrie Fire** Paint S Maelstrom Dung S Grenade Launcher** Spartacus Fire** Sandstorm Demonlock Arbalest** Arbalest+** Tankmage** Yian Kut-Ku Cannon** Injector Cannon Flechette Gun** Lao-Shan Lung Cannon** * Bowgun is not required to be compatible with all three (Poison, Stun, Sleep) main support ammunition types, but must be compatible with at least one level 2 main support ammunition type. * ** Bowgun may not be compatible with all three (Poison, Stun, Sleep) main support ammunition types. May also only be compatible with one or none of the status enhancement ammunition types. ** Armor Requirements ----------------- There are only two armor combinations that aid this job. Since they are relatively difficult to obtain, don't depend on them. Armor Combo #1 Skill Set #1 -------------- ------------ Skull Face Wide-Area Power Seed* Dragonskin Wide-Area Armor Seed* Hunter Guards Sleep Duration Doubled Velociprey Coat Rathalos Leggings Armor Combo #2 Skill Set #2 -------------- ------------ Skull Face Wide-Area Power Seed* Monoblos Vest Wide-Area Armor Seed* Rathian Guards Sleep Duration Doubled Dragontail Dragonlegs * These skills only work with seeds. Drugs and mega drugs will not work. Wide-Area Power Seed enhances the attack of every party member in the same area that you use a seed. Wide-Area Armor Seed enhances the defense of every party member in the same area that you use a seed. * Inventory Requirements ---------------------- Take as many combo books as you can. A lot of these things are just materials needed for a back-up supply.* ** Depending on whether you want Stun, Poison, or Sleep, change these supplies accordingly. ** *** Only take these if you have the wide-area armor skills. *** _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-IIb] Strategy -------- Okay if you're going to play the Avenger, like the Medic, make sure your party knows. Also make sure your party knows which main support ammo you're focusing on. If you're taking 119 stun shots with you, your party won't need to bring stun enhanced weapons. It would just be a waste of your time and their time, and your money. It's easier if you take one main support type at a time because it can get tedious focusing on two. You could, for example, take your 99 Sm Bone Husks, 99 Genprey Fangs and 99 Ioprey Fangs and then after you stun the creature, start letting out the poison. But you have to keep in mind that you can only carry 99 Sm Bone Husks. If you're really set on using two of the main support types, you could always have someone carry more Sm Bone Husks for you. So before your party runs off from camp, I suggest having them stand together so you can shoot one Armor Shot and Demon Shot. Save your seeds (if you have the wide area skills) and flutes for in combat, because it will be harder to get your party together for one shot. The first status effect against a monster happens much faster than the ones to come after. For example, if your party is battling a large wyvern, and you're focusing on Stun ammo, (assuming you don't miss) it will only take about 4 level 2 shots to paralyze it the first time. After that, it generally takes about 7-9 level 2 shots. Also keep in mind that it will take more level 1 shots than level 2 shots to get the effect to work. Stun Shot is probably the most useful out of all three main support ammo types. This is especially true because it prohibits a creature's ability to fight back for a certain period of time. Their "flailing" and cries of agony aren't going to affect your party in any way, as opposed to using a Flash bomb, for example. A flash bomb would still enable the monster to cause harm on your party (tail flicks, spinning, feet, etc). Also note that some monsters are immune to Stun, and on others it doesn't last long (such as Khezu). Poison Shot is also good because it does extra damage to the creature you're fighting, but it doesn't have the advantage of making it easier for your party to take the creature down. You could try assembling your party to have you, the Avenger, using Stun shot, and someone else using a poison enhanced weapon such as Gravios Spear or Chrome Razor. You could also use Sleep Shot if your party is having a tough time escaping, or you're on a carry mission but the wyvern is giving you a hard time. It's tough to use it in combat because it becomes defective almost as soon as you get it to work, depending on how quickly your party is attacking the monster. Sleep Shot isn't all that useful. Normal Shot is in the inventory list because, basically, you need something to do when your Stun or Sleep shot activates on the creature. You can take any other combat ammunition with you, Normal Shot was just the first one I thought of! So, if you've paralyzed or put your wyvern to sleep don't continue shooting it with Stun or Sleep. It's just a huge waste of ammunition. It doesn't carry over onto the next effect. (NOTE: Poison Shot does in fact carry over for each infliction.) If you keep hitting it with Stun Shot while it's paralyzed, it just becomes negated because it's already paralyzed. Then once it recovers from paralysis, it will take you another 7-9 shots to get it back to that state. So like I said, huge waste of ammunition. This is why you should take some combat ammunition with you, so you're not just standing around waiting. You don't ACTUALLY need to take a trap, or the supplies to make traps. But because you're an avenger, you're basically doing everything in your power to screw up the monster's ability to retaliate. So it's good to bring it along, just incase your party needs it. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-III] :::The Bombardier::: -------------------- The Bombardier focuses on using a variety of explosives. They keep the wyverns out of the air, and add extra damage with Sm and Lg bombs. A bombardier's main job is to harm the monster, and like the avenger, they make it easier for the monster to be injured by other hunters. _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-IIIa] Gear Requirements ----------------- Bowgun Requirements ------------------- Any bowgun with the capability of using the following ammunition: At Least Recommended Compatible Guns -------- ----------- --------------- Pellet S: 1 Pellet S: 12 Maelstrom Crag S: 2 Crag S: 12 Grenade Launcher Clust S: 2 Clust S: 12 Spartacus Fire Paint S Paint S Demonlock Arbalest+ Yian Kut-Ku Cannon Quickcaster Flechette Gun Vor Cannon Armor Requirements ----------------- There really isn't a specific skill that can aid this job. So just go with whatever combo you want. Maybe try something like Reload +1 or Reload +2. Automarking could be a big help depending on circumstances. But generally, armor selection is completely up to you here. Inventory Requirements ---------------------- Take as many combo books as you can. I recommend taking the first four. Start off with your four combination books. Then take out 99 Sm Bone Husks, then 99 Wyvern Claws, and so on. The materials that combine together should be close to each other because it makes it a whole lot easier to combine in combat, as well as faster. Your other supplies such as Potions and pre-made ammunition can go on the second page of your inventory. When the quests starts, do what you normally do on any other quest. You no longer have to worry about saving the lives of your party members, because you are a Bombardier. Before you leave camp have some ammo loaded into your gun to save you a little bit of time later. If you're fighting something where minions need to be cleared out first, its best to let your party members handle that since you don't want to waste your very expensive ammo. And probably by the time you get into the area that the monster you're supposed to be fighting is in, your party will already be close to finished taking out all the minions. You can, of course, help them. There's nothing wrong with that, just try not to miss too many shots, or get knocked around too much so soon in the quest! ** YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE IN THE CREATURE'S FACE! KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!** You need to get used to how fast your gun reloads for this job, since you not only have to wait for reload time, but you also have to wait for ammunition to detonate (You can't reload another Clust S if the one you just shot hasn't finished exploding, etc), and you also have to get used to recoil off of Clust S (and some others). Once you're used to dealing with all that, have fun. Pay close attention to what the monster is going to do next. Generally, you can tell who or in what direction something is going to attack. Don't reload in front of Gravios if you notice him looking at you as he inhales for his next beam. Don't stand beside Plesioth as you notice him positioning his body for a hip-check in your general direction. Don't shoot something off (especially if it has recoil) as the angry Rathian speeds towards you, you will probably get stuck in all your waiting time and will either roll out of the way in a close enough call to make your party mad, or you'll get hit! When shooting Clust Shots, try and aim higher on the wyvern (even if its weak spot is on its belly), because the bombs from a Clust sends party members flying across the area, and some people get really annoyed. It's also a good idea to aim high because then the bombs have a larger area to explode on. You'll notice that sometimes when you aim lower, a couple of the bombs don't actually do any damage because they flew too far away. Crag Shot sticks into the creature and explodes after a couple seconds, so just be careful that you don't lodge one of those in the middle of where your party is attacking. You don't really need to use the traps unless your party actually wants you to. Sometimes it's a hassle to get the wyvern in one of the traps, so it ends up being a waste of time. If you want to deal extra damage with Lg bombs on something such as Basarios, place some bombs beside the explosive rocks. Then, you and your party can lure him into a rock, which always seems to be a lot easier than luring him into a trap. Flash Bombs are NOT needed for every quest, in fact it gets pretty cheap after a while and sometimes takes a lot of the fun out of the game. But take some incase of a Rathalos that just won't come down, or a double wyvern quest, or something of the sort. And as you should probably know, you don't need Sonic Bombs unless you're going up against Diablos, Plesioth or Cephadrome(los). In case you don't know, against a Plesioth, you use Sonic Bombs to bring him out of the water. Crag Shot also works (as long as it hits him) like that. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-IV] :::The Assassin::: ------------------ The Assassin generally tries to stay out of close combat, as most gunners should. They rarely use explosive ammunition, and focus on dealing damage to the creature. _______________________________________________________________________________ [S3.2-IVa] Gear Requirements ----------------- Bowgun Requirements ------------------- Any heavy bowgun with high attack power, and the capability of using the following ammunition: At Least Recommended Compatible Guns -------- ----------- --------------- Normal S: 2 Normal S: 12 Arbalest+ Pellet S: 1 Pellet S: 12 Tankmage Pierce S: 1 Pierce S: 12 Meteor Cannon Crag S: 12 Rapidcaster Clust S: 12 Yian Kut-Ku Cannon Paint S Quickcaster Flechette Gun Vor Cannon Armor Requirements ----------------- Because you should be sticking with a heavy bowgun for this, your reload speed will be lower, so reload+ skills are very useful. So start your quest the way you normally would. Have some ammo loaded as you leave camp. You can help your party members clear minions if you'd like... ** YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE IN THE CREATURE'S FACE! KEEP SOME DISTANCE!** There isn't much to tell you about this job. Basically, just empty all your Pierce Shots into the creature and do as much damage as possible. Like the Bombardier, you need to be very conscious of reload speed, recoil, etc. That wyvern can kick your butt easily if you're too careless. Pierce Shot depends on distance for extra damage. You might want to ask one of your party members to carry some extra ammunition materials for you. Pierce shot can be unloaded rather quickly, and then you'll be sitting there doing nothing for the rest of the quest. Crag and Clust are basically just fillers and some extra damage. Don't rely on them, otherwise you'd be a Bombardier, not an Assassin! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ [S4.1] /\/\Disclaimer and Acknowledgments/\/\ -------------------------------------- This document is copyrighted to I, Jennifer Hounsell.
