Introduction =============================================================== Mega Man X is about a robot in the not so distant future who is created by a scientist named Dr. Thomas Light. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 11 years you must've played or at least heard about a Mega Man or Mega Man X game. In Japan he is known as Rock Man X. He is an improved version of his predecessor, Mega Man, or nicknamed the Blue Bomber. In Japan he is known as Rock Man. Mega Man X takes place in 21XX. In the older series, which took place in 20XX, Mega Man battled Dr. Albert Wily with the help of his friends Bass, Protoman, Rush and so on. Dr. Wily was a colleague of Dr. Light, but Dr. Wily became evil and wanted to take over the world using robots. The latest installment in the original series is Megaman 9: Megaman and Bass. In all of the 9 older Mega Man games you would battle 8 robots, or 6 in the very first Mega Man game, and then fight Dr, Wily and all the robots again in his castle. This is also true for the Mega Man X games, but instead of fighting Dr. Wily in his castle, you fight someone called Sigma. More on Sigma later. Also,in the older games you fought robots that were called ___ Man. For example, Cut Man or Magnet Man. But in the Mega Man X games, you fight robot animals. For example, Flame Mammoth or Tunnel Rhino. The older games were released in the late eighties and early nineties. The first six Mega Man games were for the NES, 7 for the SNES, 8 for the Playstation, and 9 back to the SNES. (Don't ask me why they did that) The first Mega Man X game was released for the SNES back in 1993. The first 3 Mega Man X games were for the SNES, 4-6 for the Playstation, and 7 and 8 for the Playstation 2. I don't know if they are going to make any more original Mega Man games, but I am sure that Capcom is going to make Mega Man X9 because of the ending in this game. Now I'll tell you more about Mega Man X's storyline because I've told you all of Mega Man's storyline. Mega Man X is a first robot in a new generation of robots. They have an ability that the older generation robots, even the older Mega Man, don't have. The ability to think and make decisions on their own. Dr. Light knew the risks of creating a robot of that magnitude, but he did it anyway. Mega Man X wasn't discovered until after Dr. Light's death by a scientist named Dr. Cain in 21XX. Dr. Cain discovered Dr. Light's buried lab and he also discovered X. It's not clear if Mega Man X is an enhanced version of Mega Man or an entirely new robot. It hasn't been stated by Capcom yet so we'll have to wait and see. Up until that point, X was the only robot that had the ability to make decisions on his own. Dr. Cain was astounded by Dr. Light's creation, so he decided to make replica's, or "Reploids", of X. Thus the Reploid race was born. He thought that by doing this he would benefit mankind and the Earth. He was partially right. Reploids were rolling off the assembly lines in huge numbers. And for a time humans and reploids were living together in harmony. However, as it was bound to happen, a Reploid broke the first rule of robotics: A robot must never hurt a human being. Reploids that became maverick were thus called "Mavericks". Because of this, some reploids got together and formed the Maverick Hunters, a group that destroys any Maverick uprisings. The Maverick Hunters' leader, Sigma, was created by Dr. Cain himself, and was the most intelligent and powerful of the group. Sigma and the Maverick Hunters successfully destroyed Mavericks for a period of time. However, Sigma had a battle with one particular Maverick that caused himself to become Maverick. He fought a Maverick named Zero that almost cost him his life. Somehow though, Sigma became infected with the Maverick Virus and he himself became a Maverick. Even though this isn't official, there are many hints pointing to the fact that Zero was created by Dr. Wily. (Play MMX4 for more details) I believe this. Also there is even more speculation that Zero himself might have been the original carrier and host of Maverick Virus as Sigma gets infected after he fights him. I think Dr. Wily created Zero so that he would infect every robot on the earth and he could control all of the robots. It might've been a last resort that he never had a chance to use. Maybe that diamond on his head held the virus? Another thing to note is that Mega Man X and Zero were created at the same time. Maybe Zero was created to battle against Dr. Light's Mega Man X? Who knows, but that's what I and plenty of other fans believe. Anyways as I stated above Sigma himself became a Maverick and became the leader of the Mavericks. Zero was repaired by Dr. Cain and he became good. Zero decided to join the Maverick Hunters, and so did X, and that's how they met and became very close friends. Zero and X finally defeated Sigma at the end of Mega Man X1, but at the cost of Zero's life. In Mega Man X2 Sigma returns and this time he attempts to control Zero, but he fails because you get all of Zero's parts before he does. So Zero returns in Mega Man X2. At the end of X2 you fight Sigma once again and you kill him. One interesting thing to note is that he says "He was the last of the doctor's creations". He of course is referring to Zero, and doctor is most likely referring to Dr. Wily, which even further makes it more apparent that Dr. Wily created Zero. At the end of MMX2, Sigma becomes a virus himself. Thus the Sigma virus is born. It is a mutated form of the Maverick Virus. This is how he keeps returning every time. In Mega Man X3 a reploid scientist named Dr. Doppler wants to create a utopia for Reploids where they are immune to all viruses. However, it turns out that he himself is infected by the Sigma Virus, and he plots to take over the world. You of course find out that Sigma was behind the whole thing, and you fight and defeat him at the end of MMX3. In MMX4, the Repliforce, or the Reploid military, headed by the Colonel and General, want to usher a new age for Reploids. The Maverick Hunters believe that the Repliforce is becoming Maverick, so you battle them. However, you soon find out that Sigma was manipulating the General and Colonel and he was responsible for all of the destruction. Once again you defeat him. In MMX5 Sigma returns and takes control of the Space Colony Eurasia and most of the robots in the world because of his virus. A new character, called Alia, is also introduces. She guides you throughout the game and also in MMX6-MMX8. Sigma plans to crash the colony into the Earth. Zero and X stop him, but Zero dies in the process because he sacrifices himself by crashing into the colony. Also, even though the colony didn't crash into the Earth, fragments of the colony crash into the Earth severly damaging the Earth. This pollutes the Earth and wipes out many humans and reploids. Humans are forced to live underground. The Reploids slowly rebuild the Earth and everything is almost returning to normal until MMX6. MMX6 takes place 3 weeks after the Eurasia Colony incident, and in it a new virus is born. It is a mutation of the Sigma Virus, called the Zero/Nightmare Virus. It spreads when a reploid scientist named Gate finds a piece of the colony on Earth which contains Zero's DNA. He quickly becomes infected with the Zero/Nightmare Virus and so do a number of other Reploids. He tries to deceive everyone by using a reploid official named Isocc. Isocc tells everyone that the Reploids must usher in a new age and that they must destroy the Nightmare Virus. However, he is working with Gate and they both plan to infect the whole Reploid race to control the world. Zero somehow makes a comeback, even though they never clearly explained it. Gate is also repairing the body of Sigma, who apparently survives with a small amount of strength after the Eurasia Incident. Sigma kills Gate for letting X and Zero find out where he is. You of course defeat Sigma and the world is safe once again, but not for long. In MMX7 a new character is introduced to the series, called Axl. After MMX6, X decides to leave the Maverick Hunters because he is tired of the fighting. Because of this the public views the Maverick Hunters as weak. A new organization of mercenaries, known as the Red Alert Syndicate, rises in its place. Its leader is called Red, and they have a very useful Reploid named Axl, who can copy the DNA of other Reploids. Because of the Red Alert's brutal tactics, Axl decides to leave the Red Alert Syndicate and joins the Hunters. The Red Alert wants Axl back, but the Maverick Hunters refuse to give him to them. So, the Red Alert challenges the Hunters to 8 duels and whoever wins them gets to keep Axl. Because he is needed, Mega Man X returns. Sigma also returns, and he forces Red to obey his orders because he is holding the Red Alert Member's hostage. Red is forced to do whatever Sigma says. After you defeat the 8 Red Alert members, you fight Red and defeat him. Then you fight Sigma and defeat him. Mega Man X8 is about the "Jakob Project", in which the humans want to migrate to the moon using an orbital elevator. They've greated new generation reploids that have the ability to copy other reploids' DNA, much like how Axl can copy DNA. These new generation reploids are working on the project. However, these reploids have the ability to copy dangerous Mavericks such as Sigma. Will this lead to a new war? Onward to Mega Man X8! Here's more information on Zero from Kronotross: I was checking your FAQ for a suggested order on X8 since I pretty much killed all the Mavericks with the X Buster and Z Sword on Easy and Normal, and I noticed your background information section is sort of iffy and half-and-half about the history of Zero and Wily. Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass starred in two arcade games called "Mega Man: Power Fighters" that recently got released in the Mega Man Collection thing. If you beat the second game with Bass, Wily starts babbling about how he's creating a new android that is stronger than anything that has ever been created before, that it will teach both Bass and Doctor Light a lesson, and that even if it somehow loses it has a "foolproof" win mechanism. Then, to dispel any and all speculation, a tabletop pops up with a shadowy image of Zero on it complete with long, blonde hair. And even if you don't play the Power Fighters, Sigma pretty much screams it at you in X5. Wily's signature W is all over the last stage, along with the classic Demon boss (big ball of goo). So don't be afraid to yell it from the treetops. :P Wily made Zero. As for Sigma getting infected by the virus, that's still an iffy subject, but you conveyed my opinion pretty well with Zero's crystal housing the virus and Sigma's severed arm giving it ample room to invade his systems. The only part I can't quite reason is the W that forms on Zero's head while he's winning. My best guess is that -- for one reason or another -- Wily was watching the fight and wanted Sigma to get infected. Perhaps because Zero's had gone berserk and was no longer listening to Wily? Eh, but all of that is hardly more than speculation and will probably never be addressed. =============================================================== 3. Characters =============================================================== Mega Man X- Our main hero and protagonist. He was created by Dr. Thomas Light. X has put down the Maverick Rebellion and defeated his archnemesis Sigma 7 times. However, he has doubts that peace can only be obtained through fighting. Our main hero has his primary weapon as his X-Buster, and you can charge it up. He can also use special weapons acquired from bosses, and upgrade himself using Dr. Light Capsules. (See 5a. Dr. Light Capsules for more details) Zero- Zero has been X's best friend ever since Mega Man X1. However, neither X nor Zero know that Zero was created by X's creator's main enemy, Dr. Albert Wily and he was the original carrier of the Maverick Virus. Little do X or Zero know that X must someday kill Zero for some unknown reason. It hasn't happened yet, but it will. His main weapon is his Z-sabre, and he can learn new moves from bosses. Axl- This prototype new generation Reploid is a new addition to the Maverick Hunters. He is young and neive, but that makes him strong. Little is known about his origins, but you will find out in this game. Axl has the unique ability to copy robot DNA and then transform into certain robots for an amount of time. He uses his pistol as his main weapon. He uses special types of pistols acquired from bosses as well as his regular pistol. His pistol uses rapid fire and he can also hover for an amount of time. Signas- He is the commander of the Maverick Hunters. His CPU is more advanced than all current Reploids. Alia- Alia has been the Maverick Hunter navigator since MMX5. However, in this sequel she is joined by two other navigators. She is both good in solving problems and battle analysis. Layer- This new navigator seems to have a crush on one of the other Maverick Hunters. *coughZerocough*. She excels in battle analysis and figuring out the enemy's weak points. She can also help Axl with figuring out which enemies he can copy. Pallette- She helps you in the R&D Lab. Pallette excels in area analysis as well as finding hidden routes. Lumine- One of the New Generation Reploids. She is in charge of the "Jakob Project". Is his DNA copyng ability dangerous or not? Play to find out. Sigma- Mega Man X and Zero's archnemesis ever since Mega Man X1. Ever since the end of MMX2 he's been a virus. That's how he always comes back in every sequel. Sigma used to be a Maverick Hunter like X and Zero, but turned Maverick when he fought Zero and catched the virus from Zero. Ever since then he has been wanting to destroy all humans and make the world a place where Mavericks rule. Vile- He is Sigma's right hand man and one of X and Zero's main enemies. In MMX1 he killed Zero but died when X killed him. In MMX3 he returned only to be killed again. This time he has returned with even more vengance. Bosses: Here are the profiles for the 8 regular bosses in the game. Gravity Antonion (Twister of Space and Time)- He is the head researcher at the anti-gravity lab. He is very intelligent and has an impressive AI. Earthrock Trilobyte (Insect Inhabiting Rich Mineral Deposits)- He is in charge of the facility that mines Rare Metals for outer-space development Gigavolt Man-o-War (High Voltage Drifter)- He supplies energy to the city. However, he is very lazy and clumsy. Avalanche Yeti (Guardian of the Eternally Frozen Fields)- He is the administrator of the Enviromental Testing Center at the South Pole. He is troubled by the ever-worsening enviroment. Burn Rooster (White-Hot Fowl)- He works at a facility in a volcano that burns wastes. He is very adapt at using fire and is highly-resistant to heat Bamboo Pandamonium (Fallen Giant of the Forest)- He was once in charge of handling materials for outer-space development. However, now he spends his time deep in thought in the forest of an abandoned asteroid. Optic Sunflower (Assassin from the Depths of Outer Space)- She is in charge of the Cyber Training Terminals that train the new generation Reploids. Dark Mantis (Deadly Blade Lurking in Darkness)- He is in charge of security at an underground army logistics base. He can completely function in total darkness. =============================================================== 4. Gameplay Basics =============================================================== These are just the things that you should know in order to get you through the game without having a hard time. =============================================================== 5a. Dr. Light Capsules =============================================================== If you played the old Megaman X games, you'll remember that they also had Dr. Light Capsules. Dr. Light Capsules are capsules that are hidden throughout the stages. A hologram of Dr. Light talks to you and gives you an armor upgrade. These armor pieces are only for X, although Zero and Axl can get their own armors too. (Black Zero and White Axl. Look in 11. Secrets on how to get them) There is one capsule in each stage except the Sigma stages and Gigavolt Man-o-War's stage. So that makes 8 capsules. X can obtain two main armors by using these capsules, which are the Icarus Armor and the Hermes Armor. Each one requires 4 pieces respectively. The first time you get any armor piece, you will get something called the Neutral Armor. The Neutral Armor has no effect whatsoever. It only allows you to equip different combinations of Icarus and/or Hermes Armor parts. From each capsule, you can either get a head, buster, body, or foot upgrade for either the Icarus or Hermes armor. When you equip the four pieces of either the Icarus or Hermes Armor together, X will be able to use that armor and change color. Icarus makes X red, whilst Hermes makes X blue. X also can use a special ability by using that armor. The Icarus Armor let's X use Giga Crush, while the Hermes Armor let's X use X-Drive. Each armor piece also has it's own effect. If you want to know the effect of each armor piece and the locations of each armor piece, look in 8. Dr. Light Capsule Locations and Descriptions. X also has an Ultimate Armor that he can use. It allows X to do Nova Strike. Look in 11. Secrets on how to get it. So in all, that makes 4 armors for X, 1 for Zero, and 1 for Axl. =============================================================== 5b. Ride Vehicles =============================================================== There are 3 Ride Vehicles in this MMX game. They are the Cyclops, Sirius, and Barius. The Cyclops is a ground vehicle used to pound through enemies. The only time you use it is in Bamboo Pandamonium's stage. The Sirius is a flying vehicle. You use it in Gigavolt Man-o-War's stage. The Barius is a land vehicle capable of traveling at high speeds. You use it in Avalanche Yeti's stage. =============================================================== 5c. Items =============================================================== There are the types of items in this game. Here is a description of each of them and what they do. Life Energy- These restore your character's life energy. They are found in small, medium, and large sizes, as well as full recovery capsules. Weapon Energy- These restore your character's weapon energy. They are found in small, medium, and large sizes. Metal- Metals are dropped by all enemies when you destroy them and are found along routes in stages. They come in different sizes. They are used to purchase and create power chips from the R&D Lab. (Look at 5d. R&D Laboratory for more details.) Rare Metal- Rare Metals hold special powers. There are only a few of them in each stage and they are hard to get and often hidden. They are necessary in order to get 100% in that particular stage. Some Rare Metals can be unearthed by using the charged up version of Earthrock Trilobyte's Weapon. Rare Metals create special power chips for Zero, Mega Man X, or Axl. Each Rare Metal makes one item for one of the characters. You then must purchase the item with regular metals. Purchasing all Rare Metal items for each character is also needed for 100%. If you purchase all Rare Metal items for one of the characters, you get 100% for that character, except for X because you also have to get all 8 armor pieces for him as well to get 100% for him. Rare Metal items that haven't been found yet are marked as ??????? in the R&D Lab, so you cannot purchase them. Once you find them they are named and become availible for purchase. For more information on the location of each Rare Metal, look at 9. Rare Metal Locations. DNA Core- If you defeat certain enemies with Axl's copy shot, you will get that enemy's DNA Core. This in turn will allow Axl to change into that enemy for a certain amount of time and use its abilities. Layer can help Axl analyize which enemies can be copied. Armor Power-ups- These are obtained from Dr. Light Capsules found throughout the stages. Look at 5a. Dr. Light Capsules for more information. =============================================================== 5d. R&D Laboratory =============================================================== At the R&D Lab, you can go to stage select, develop chips, view stage records, save or load a game, and go to options. However, it's primary function is for chip development. There are different types of chips, and you can purchase them with metals you have acquired from stages. Green chips can be used by everyone. Blue chips are for X only. Orange chips are for Zero only. Purple chips are for Axl only. Also, there are special chips for each character that can only be purchased by first acquiring Rare Metals. (Look at 5c. Items for more details) These special chips, along with all of the character's power chips, need to be purchased in order to get 100% for that character. =============================================================== 5e. Intermissions =============================================================== Each stage is believed to have an intermission stage. Intermission stages are basically minigames where you have a certain objective within that stage. No one, including myself, knows what their purpose is. And no one knows how to unlock each one. However I do know that they are NOT needed in order to get 100% in the stage it is in. They're just there to get metals I guess. Here are the descriptions and stradegies for four of the Intermission Stages. Thanks to Starlight for providing me with these. All of this information is from Starlight: Intermission: Noah's Park This intermission is a simple constant battle against crabs, rollers, and the mechical claw of the scorpion beast you fought as the boss of this region. The goal of this is to kill as many crabs as possible, but everything drops force metals, so get in those kills. Every so often, a flying robot will enter the screen carrying a large red force metal. Be sure to kill him and snag the force metal from him. Be careful in this intermission. As you remain in the stage longer and longer, more things will happen at once. It starts out at a simple pace, but you find yourself running from side to side trying to kill things. To make matters worse, the mechanical claw can not be destroyed. Rollers, Crabs, and the Claw will soon be bearing down on you all at once. Zero is a good choice for this intermission. His array of weapons give him a constant flow of overpowering greatness. With the Sigma Blade or the Z-saber, you can easily rack in 100 or so crab kills. Keep in mind that the crabs pop out from the waterfall and they land on you, so you have to keep moving. Its tricky, but not impossible if you keep that in mind. This area is perfect for metal gathering earily in the game. Intermission: Central White This intermission plays just like the stage, only you can only use 1 person. You have 10 minutes to destroy these random bits of debris on the road to the center. The debris are like walls of ice, so they are somewhat irritating. It starts out pretty easy, with the walls small, easy to destroy, and spread out just in case you just want to skip them, or dodge them as the case may be. You'll then reach more walls, only these are a lot bigger, thicker, and harder to destroy. By this point, you'll notice a few ramps. Between these walls of ice, which usually make a < or > pattern you have to follow, there are some good force metals (Yellow and Red). Snatach them for quick money. After the slightly harder wallss, you start seeing ramps more often and taller, much harder to destroy walls. in most cases, you'll slam into wall before you break them. The space between walls becomes very small, and breaking is a good and bad idea here. If you time your breaking right, you can clear the walls and get to the next ramp without slaming into the next wall. This is where it gets interesting. The walls now come in rapid triple sets, where there is a VERY VERY small gap between them, and the walls are all different sizes: a meduim, large, and very large. To add to the anguish of the situation, the ramps are now moving side to side, so you have to move and hope to catch it, otherwise hope you can blast that wall or you will hit it. At the end of this nightmare, there is a large ice wall. Just beyond that is a patch of Yellow, Red, and Purple force metals and the end of the stage. Any character is good for this stage, though I prefer Zero because he has a nice wide shot on the ride chaser. Intermission: Inferno Did you like the opening to this stage to begin with? with the desending screen and moving from platform to platform? Well... Have fun with this! This stage gets a 5 out of 5 for irritating-ness. The screen starts nice and slow in its desent, the platforms spanning out from right to left to right again. Each platform in this intermission has a Yellow or Red force metal (!), so its great for a quick few hundred force metal. However, speed and talent are needed much here. Axl is your best bet for what lies ahead. As the desent continues, the platforms start spanning in 3s, no longer reaching the far lefts and rights of the screen. After this, you need a series of platforms stacked in the middle. Each of these platforms have a red force metal, but they are tricky to get without being slammed into the top of the screen and taking damage. Now comes the hard part. Things return to normal, but faster. This stage will mess with your mind with its constant changes in speed and turmoil. To add to the chaos, as you desend further, platforms begin to fall if you touch them. The freefalling is eased by the moving platforms, but only briefly, as it will quickly return to falling platforms. The speed, by this point, should be annoying enough to make you want to jump to your death. Now the platforms are movin g and falling. This combination is murder on your poor character and your eyes. Don't look away! You need to focus really hard to not mess up and die at this point. After a long desent, the screen slows down and this whole ordeal repeats (!). Yes, this intermission has no end, just like Noah's Park. Just keep going for as long as you can. Intermission: Troia Base My personal favorite intermission. For those of you who have reached and beaten gateway, get ready for some fun. Its the capsule room, but this time, there is a time limit. In this intermission, you can bring 2 people along. You are given 10 minutes to destroy all 7 robot masters once again. Based on your preformance in battle (Damage taken, etc, etc), you will recieve 250-750 force metal a battle (!). After a rushing good time, if you do this right and kill all bosses and take no damage at all, you recieve 7500 total force metal for your trouble. This intermission just cries out for murder. X and Zero are perfect for this area because of their wide range of adaptable techniques, and their elemental attacks strike fear (and serious damage) into the hearts of these copys. Just blow them to shreads and make 7500 force metal a run. Not bad! If you want to be a real jerk, come back later with Ultimate X and just Nova Strike the boss once then shoot him after they use their special attack. It makes for a fun time, and really quick money. I'll send you more info as I unlock the other 4-5 intermissions. =============================================================== 5f. Suggested Boss Order =============================================================== This is the boss order that you should take, although I'm not forcing you to take it. Thanks to Vile Tank for providing me with the suggested boss order. Gravity Antonion Earthrock Trilobyte Gigavolt Man-o-War Avalanche Yeti Burn Rooster Bamboo Pandamonium Optic Sunflower Dark Mantis =============================================================== 5g. Boss Weaknesses and Weapon Obtained =============================================================== Each boss has a certain weakness that you acquire from another boss. You can use it against him or her to defeat him or her more easily. Also, after defeating the boss X gets a new weapon, Zero learns a new move, and Axl gets a new type of pistol that you can use against another boss who has a weakness against the special weapon you just got. So it's kind of like a cycle. Boss Name | His/Her Weakness | Weapon Obtained (X/Zero/Axl) | | Gravity Antonion | Dark Mantis' Weapon | Squeeze Bomb/Juuhazan/ | | Spiral Magnum | | Earthrock Trilobyte| Gravity Antonion's Weapon | Crystal Wall/Rekkyoudan/ | | Bound Blaster | | Gigavolt Man-o-War | Earthrock Trilobyte's Weapon| Thunder Dancer/Raikousen/ | | Plasma Gun | | Avalanche Yeti | Gigavolt Man-o-War's Weapon | Drift Diamond/Hyouryuushou/ | | Ice Gattling | | Burn Rooster | Avalanche Yeti's Weapon | Melt Creeper/Enkoujin/ | | Flame Burner | | Bamboo Pandamonium | Burn Rooster's Weapon | Green Spinner/Youdantotsu/ | | Blast Launcher | | Optic Sunflower | Bamboo Pandamonium's Weapon | Shining Ray/Tenshouha/ | | Ray Gun | | Dark Mantis | Optic Sunflower's Weapon | Shadow Runner/Rasetsusen/ | | Black Arrow =============================================================== 5h. 100% Completion =============================================================== 100% means that you have gotten everything. You can get 100% for stages, for each of the three characters, and for the whole game. Look in 10. Getting 100% for information on how to get 100% for all of the stages, three characters, and the whole game. =============================================================== 5i. Difficulty Level Differences =============================================================== In Mega Man X8, the difficulty level actually changes some of the gameplay. I'll explain the differences. Easy- Obviously the least difficult of the three. You start out with a large energy bar. Also, you won't see the ending by beating it in easy and you won't fight Lumine. You also won't find any rare metals, and in turn you won't be able to use Zero, Axl, or X's special power chips. Normal- You start out with a somewhat medium energy bar. You take a little bit more damage than you would in easy. You can acquire the armors for each of the three characters by beating the game with 100% completion for each of them. (Look in 11. Secrets for more details.) You can also get Rare Metals now. Hard- Hard is very very difficult. Also, you take much more damage than in Normal and you start out with a small energy bar. You can get Rare Metals. However, by playing on hard you can fight Lumine as the last boss after Sigma. (Look in 11. Secrets for more details.) =============================================================== 5j. EXFs =============================================================== EXFs are something you acquire after you beat a boss using a double attack. However, no one, including myself, knows what they are used for. If I find out I will add it later. I think they might just be there to raise your stage rank. However, you do NOT need to get them from every boss to get 100% completion, just like you don't need to beat all of the Intermissions to get 100% completion. =============================================================== 5k. Tactics to Use =============================================================== -Use double attacks to defeat enemies. If some enemies are too hard for you, just use a double attack by going close to it and pressing R2. -If your current character is low on life energy, change characters. The character that is low on life energy will rest and regain energy over time. -Use a lot of combos. More combos means more metals. -Use the navigator that suites you. If you already know an enemy's weakness, why should you use Layer? Use Pallette instead since she knows hidden routes. -Use tag assists. If you are being held and trapped by an enemy, use tag assist to break free. This saves time and also makes it easier for you to defeat the enemy. -Use cracking on enemies that have shields. Cracking leaves enemies vulnerable to attacks. Mega Man X's charge shot, Zero's 3rd combo attack, or Axl's 8th shot cracks an enemy. =============================================================== 5l. Stage Rank =============================================================== After you beat every stage,or even if you exit from it or loose all of your retry chips, you will get something called a stage rank that Signas tells you. There are six stage ranks. He gives AAA,AA, A, B, C, or D depending on your performance in the stage. AAA is the highest you can get while D is the lowest rank you can get in a stage. Thanks to Marshmallow Man for providing me with all of the stage ranks. Along with the stage rank he also shows you which items you've acquired in the stage and how many are still left in that stage. He also tells you how many metals you have acquired in that stage. You DO NOT need to get the highest stage rank in every stage to get 100% stage completion or game completion. It's just there as a challenge and for you to boast about it. :) =============================================================== 6. Walkthrough =============================================================== The Walkthrough I am doing will be covered through the Normal Mode and Hard Mode perspective, since Easy Mode doesn't allow you to get Rare Metals. However, you can use the walkthrough for Easy Mode too. =============================================================== 6a. Noah’s Park =============================================================== This is the first stage, or the introduction stage. You start off with Axl and X in a forest. Don't worry about getting everything in this stage, since you don't have the items to do it and you can always come back after you beat the first Maverick Boss. Keep going forward until you encounter some bees. They shouldn't be that much of a problem. They'll die in 2 or 3 shots. Now keep going forward until you reach a creek with small piranha’s in it. Right across the creek is a rocket launching robot. Make sure you dodge its missiles since it takes off a lot of damage. Also, don't try to go in the creek since the piranha can get you. You'll encounter 2 more rocket launching robots. Make sure you just dodge their missiles and you'll be okay. Now, after you defeat them, you'll encounter a Mini-Boss. Mini-Boss: Giant Scorpion Mechanaloid This Mini-Boss should be that much of a hassle. Just keep attacking his leg until the two blue orbs are destroyed. Then he'll bend over and that's when you can attack his head. Just keep doing this over and over again. He'll launch one of his hands to grab you, so just don't stay towards the left side of the screen when he does that. Stay towards him, but not too close, and he won't be able to grab you. After some hits he will be destroyed. After you kill the Mini-Boss, you will be outside of the forest in an open area. X will have to bring the sample of the Maverick back to Hunter Base, so you’re stuck with using Axl for the time being. Destroy those annoying bats that are above you, and then proceed by hovering across the pit. You can go to the bottom of the pit, but all that's there is a few crabs and an energy capsule you can use to replenish your health. Once you hover across, you will have to go past two waterfalls. There is a Rare Metal here. Look in 9. Rare Metal Locations. You will encounter the rocket launching robots again, but just hover above their missiles and then attack them. You will also encounter the bees, but they're not a problem. After the waterfalls you will see a rocket launching robot above you on top of a ledge. Destroy him by shooting towards the upper-right direction. You won't be hurt if you stay very close to the bottom ledge. After you destroy him, enter the caves. This room will bombard you with bats. Make sure you dash left and right to dodge them, and then shoot them. They aren't that much of a pain. Now exit the room and Zero will join your party. There is a Rare Metal here. Look in 9. Rare Metal Locations. Keep going forward until you encounter the second mini-boss that is behind a large waterfall. Mini-Boss: Giant Scorpion Mechanaloid I suggest you use Zero for this battle. You'll only be able to attack him when he sticks his head out of the waterfall. He will send crabs to keep on attacking you, but you can dodge them by jumping. Just keep on pounding him when he sticks his head out. He sends his hand out to get you just like the previous one. Your double attack gauge should be filled up while fighting this boss. So just use it to finish him off. After fighting the Mini-Boss, you'll enter another large open area. Axl will leave to give the Maverick sample to Alia. This time you'll encounter those little helmet-wearing metools. To attack them, just use a combo attack to flip them over their helmet, and then kill them. You'll also encounter spike wheels and large robot diggers. Dodge the spike wheels by jumping over them. Kill the large robot diggers by using a combo attack to leave them vulnerable, and then kill them. You'll then encounter a door that you can't enter. There is a Dr. Light Capsule behind the door. Look in 8. Dr. Light Capsule Locations and Descriptions So, just double jump onto the ledge above the door. You will then encounter a large bee that shoots out small energy pellets and shoots out smaller bees. Dodge the pellets by staying away from the large bee, and then after it shoots them, attack it.Enter the building by going through the door. Now you will be bombarded with bees. Just use the same tactic you did for the room full of bats. Dash and attack. Now you'll enter a hallway with a conveyer belt, and X will also join you. Use a combo attack to make those floating spike robots vulnerable, and then attack them. You'll encounter a rocket launching robot at the end of the conveyer belt. Destroy it and then drop down to the room below whilst dodging those floating spike robots. Go through the hallway and destroy the enemies until you reach a blue switch. Turn it on by attacking it, and quickly keep dashing up before the walls come together. Now you'll enter some type of communications room. If you dash up, you'll encounter a rocket launching robot and a floating spike robot. Destroy them and attack the switch. The little compartment below will open, and inside is a large metal and an item that fills your energy all the way up. Now you will fight the boss. Boss: Giant Scorpion Mechanaloid Just like the first Mini-Boss, use a charged up X shot or a Zero combo attack to make him bend over. He will be vulnerable this way. Now attack him. I advise you to just stay on the wall while you fight this boss and then attack him from there. He will drop diamonds that will fill your double attack gauge up. If he gets close to you, he'll use his arms to attack you. Just dash on the wall and keep dashing as high as you can to dodge his arms. Get him to about 1/4 of his energy. Now, use the double attack to finish him off. After you finish him off, Vile will appear and he'll take Lumine. This is the end of this stage. =============================================================== 6b. Primose =============================================================== This stage has a lot of gravity rooms. Keep going forward and you'll encounter some rocket launching robots as well as some bats. Just dodge the rockets like you did before in the introduction stage. The bats shouldn't be that much of a problem. Now go through the little green portal and you'll arrive in a room with crates. Just step on the bottom switch and the room will turn upside down. Now go through the portal that is now visible. Now you'll be in a room with spikes. Just step on the switch in front of you to make the room turn upside down and go through the room. Be careful though. DO NOT step on any of the switches you see in the middle of the room, or you'll fall into the spikes when the room turns upside down. Now, step on the switch right before the pit of spikes, and proceed. Now you'll be in a room with rocket launching robots and crates. Wait until the rocket launching robots stop shooting their missiles, and then attack them. Now press the switch above you and proceed. Don't press the next switch that you encounter, and instead go through the portal. You should now be in a room with a bunch of rocket launching robots and bats. Just press the switch in front of you to crush them all when the room turns up- side down. Amusing, isn't it? However make sure you press the switch again by jumping because the crates will have spikes on them. Now press the last switch in the room and go through the portal that was behind the crate. You'll now be in a large room that is shaped like a stair going down. There will be some crabs on the way down, but they shouldn't be that much of a problem. Go through the portal to arrive in a room with crates shaped like a reversed L. There will be two switches here. One on the bottom and one on the top. Step on the one on the top first, and then step on the one on the bottom twice to reveal the portal. Go through it and you'll be in a room with two small pillars of crates. Step on the switch closest to you, but QUICKLY dash to the left or right or you will be crushed by the falling crates. The portal is on the top of the room. The next room is a bit tricky. Step on the first switch you see, and then try to stay in the middle while falling down the wall of spikes. Do not touch them or you will die. Now you will land on another switch. Do the same thing here. Stay in the middle of the spikes. You will land on another switch, but there are no more spikes to worry about. Now, jump up and go right to get to the portal. You'll be in another room shaped liked a staircase, but this time it'll be going up. There is a Rare Metal on the upper left part of this room. Look in 9. Rare Metal Locations. Be careful though. You will not only be faced with crabs, but bats and spiked wheels as well. Quickly shoot the wheels before they get to you or just dodge them. The bats and crabs won't be that much of a hassle. Get to the top of the stairs and go through the portal. You'll be in a small room. Enter the next room. This room will be a REAL pain if you don't react quickly. The crates will go up and down to try to crush you. Not only that, but they will also use spikes to kill you. When all the crates go down, jump between two that are going down and quickly slide on the wall. You can go in between the crates when they are on the ground, but it's very risky. When the crates are going up, quickly jump and slide to one that is going down and fall to the floor. Towards the end they will go up AND down at the same time. Go in between two that are going up or down and just keep on doing that. Just recognize the pattern. When you finish this very frustrating task, you'll be in a room with the portal right in front of you. Go through it to be in a room with armored spike robots. Use cracking to defeat them. Now, push the switch on the wall. Then, push the switch to the right of you. The portal will be revealed. However, there is something else in the room to get. Push the button on the wall to the right. Avoid getting crushed. Now if you go through the middle of the spikes you can get to a Dr. Light capsule. Look in 8. Dr. Light Capsule Locations and Descriptions. Go through the portal I told you about earlier and you'll be in a room with more armored spike robots. Crack them and then jump on the switch that is on the ceiling above you. Now, go right and jump down to the area with two crates. The crate on the top is moving. When it is going left, just go through the area between the two crates and proceed. You'll see a switch right in front of you. Press it and then go forward. Press the switch on the moving
crate and you'll fall into a pit that has a switch you'll fall on. Once you
fall on that, you will fall down and be right in front of the portal. Go through
it and you'll be in another room with moving crates. There is a Rare Metal right
below you that you can get by pressing the switches in the room. Look in 9. Rare
Metal Locations. Go through the room using the moving crates and you'll arrive
at the portal. Go through it and you'll be in yet another room that is shaped
like a staircase. This time it's going down again. You'll meet the same enemies
that you met before. Now, enter the room with the boss.
Boss: Gravity Antonion
This boss is fairly easy if you are good at dodging. His weakness is Dark
Mantis' weapon. In the beggining of the fight he will summon a block to
crush you. Just dodge it. He will also turn the room upside down and
sideways in an attempt to get the block to crush you. Use any chance
you get to attack him. When he has about 3/4 energy left
he will use squeeze bomb in the middle of the room. This nullifies all
attacks, except his weakness, which is Dark Mantis'weapon. If you
get close to him he will use his goo to trap you. He will also
use his sword to do a Juuhazan on you if you get close to him. If
the block falls on him while he is using gravity to control the room,
he will try to throw the block at you. When he has little energy left,
he will start dropping cubes all over the place. Just dodge them by
recognizing the pattern. Keep on dashing to dodge them. You can attack
him while he does this. Remember, you can also use double attack to
hurt him, and use it if you can.

These are just the boss strategies from the walkthrough that I have moved to
a separate section.

Mini-Boss: Giant Scorpion Mechanaloid
This Mini-Boss should be that much of a hassle. Just keep attacking his leg
until the two blue orbs are destroyed. Then he'll bend over and that's when you

he sticks his head out of the waterfall. He will send crabs to keep on
attacking you, but you can dodge them by jumping. Just keep on pounding him
when he sticks his head out. He sends his hand out to get you just like the
previous one. Your double attack gauge should be filled up while fighting this
boss. So just use it to finish him off.
Boss: Giant Scorpion Mechanaloid
Just like the first Mini-Boss, use a charged up X shot or a Zero combo attack
to make him bend over. He will be vulnerable this way. Now attack him. I advise
you to just stay on the wall while you fight this boss and then attack him from
there. He will drop diamonds that will fill your double attack gauge up. If he
gets close to you, he'll use his arms to attack you. Just dash on the wall and
keep dashing as high as you can to dodge his arms. Get him to about 1/4 of his
energy. Now, use the double attack to finish him off.

8. Dr. Light Capsule Locations and Descriptions
===============================================================
There is a Dr. Light capsule in every stage except the Gigavolt Man-o-War
stage and the Sigma stages. There is even one in the Introduction Stage, Noah's
Park. Here are the locations for each one.
Noah's Park: Buster Part I
This is the introduction stage. In order to get this capsule, you must have
beaten at least one of the bosses since that allows you to come back to this
stage. When you come back to the stage, instead of double jumping using Zero
over the door that leads into the facility, you will be able to go inside using
the door on the ground. Inside the room, you will find Dr. Light's capsule
waiting for you.
Description: This will allow X to perform a new type of charge attack. X will
now be able to shoot a horizontal beam that goes across the entire screen as
his charge attack. He will also be able to charge up his special weapons.
Gravity Antonion's Stage: Head Part I
This capsule is somewhat tricky to get. It is in a room with spikes that are
going vertical, or up and down. Keep pushing the anti-gravity button until one
of the big blocks falls down the vertical spike pit. Be careful though, as the
blocks can easily crush you while doing this. After one of the big blocks goes
down the vertical spike pit, jump, yes I said jump, down the spike pit. There
will be spikes on both sides of the wall, so be careful. You'll see an opening
on the left, and a portal button. When you are about even with the opening,
quickly air dash to the left to get into the opening, and then go into the
portal. Now you will be transported to a room with the capsule.
Description: This head part will allow X to head butt all enemies and do damage
to them. Just jump and lead X's head touch an enemy above him. It will also
allow him to break certain ceilings.
Earthrock Trilobyte's Stage: Body Parts I
You'll need Burn Rooster's weapon to get this capsule. When you are being
chased by the giant mechaniloid, you'll eventually see a wall of explosives
blocking the path to the capsule. Destroy the wall of explosive barrels with
Burn Rooster's weapon and the capsule is right there.
Description: This part reduces the amount of damage you receive by half.
Avalanche Yeti's Stage: Head Parts H
You'll need Optic Sunflower's weapon to get this capsule. Getting this capsule
is a bit hard. You need to have BOTH X and Zero alive towards the end of the
stage to get this one. The capsule is on top of the building right before you
fight Avalanche Yeti. Don't enter Avalanche Yeti's room. Instead, use Zero to
double-jump on top of the building. Now, use Optic Sunflower's weapon to melt
the ice cubes and you'll get it.
Description: This part increases the charge speed of all of X's weapons.
Burn Rooster's Stage: Foot Parts H
This part can be very annoying to get, since you have to climb a wall of
spikes. After you go down those platforms, and then go through two rooms,
you'll enter a large room. Keep going through the room until you see the
capsule. You can't get it however, since it is being blocked by a wall. Now,
keep going down until you see spikes going up the wall. You have to climb up
the spike wall to reach the other side of the wall you saw before to get the
capsule. Trust me, it can be very frustrating. Just keep on trying and you'll
eventually get it.
Description: This will increase X's speed and give him invincible dashing.
Bamboo Pandamonium's Stage: Foot Parts I
This capsule can be very hard to get. First of all, you need to have the Ride
Armor to get this capsule. And second of all, the capsule is very hard to see.
After you fight the enemy Ride Armors in a room, you'll enter another room with
a lift elevator. Put the Ride Armor on the lift, and then shoot the button to
make the lift go up. Now, go to the Ride Armor and get inside of it. The
capsule is to the left of you. Go on the very edge of the lift and jump left to
go as far as you can. Now, when you start going down, immediately jump out of
the Ride Armor, but still go left. You should land on the platform where the
capsule is. This can take a couple of tries however, since you have to time it
right.
Description: This part allows X to jump higher.
Optic Sunflower's Stage: Buster Parts H
You'll need Gravity Antonion's weapon to get this capsule. Go through the stage
until you arrive at the trial where you must defeat that little yellow enemy
whilst there are some type of gears in the background. After you complete this
trial, you'll enter a large room with stairs go up. Go up to the top, but don't
enter the next room. Jump left and you should see a wall of crystals blocking
you from the capsule. Use the Squeeze Bomb on the wall and you'll be able to
get the capsule.
Description: This part allows X to fire three large plasma balls in three
directions instead of the one plasma ball he always fires.
Dark Mantis' Stage: Body Parts H
This capsule is very easy to get to. After the area in which you have to follow
the little yellow robot that acts as your light, you'll enter an elevator
shaft. Instead of going down the elevator shaft, go up. You'll eventually see
another room with a lighted entrance to your right. Enter it and the capsule is
there.
Description: X will not be harmed from attacks that are weak. He still gets
damage from strong attacks though.
===============================================================
9. Rare Metal Locations
===============================================================
Here I will list the location of all of the Rare Metals. I haven't found all
of them, but I will keep on adding more as I play through the game.
Noah's Park: 2 Rare Metals
Rare Metal #1: To get this Rare Metal, you must have Zero in your team. As soon
as you fight the Mini-Boss for the first time and you reach the first
waterfall, the Rare Metal is there. Use Zero's Double-Jump to get the Rare
Metal by jumping onto a ledge that is above the Waterfall. The Rare Metal is
right on the ledge.
Rare Metal #2: You need Head Parts I to get this one. After you enter the caves
and fight the large number of bats, you will enter the room with the Rare
Metal. You will see some metals and a Rare Metal above you, but you can't get
through because there is a ceiling blocking you from going up there. Use X's
head to break the ceiling and get the Rare Metal.
Primose: 2 Rare Metals
Rare Metal #1: This Rare Metal is in the room with moving crates. The Rare Metal
is below you when you enter the room. Use the switches on the moving crates to
make the room go upside down. Now, travel up the room and you'll see the Rare
Metal. Softly jump to the Rare Metal to get it, as if you jump hard you will hit
the spikes above you.
Rare Metal #2: To get this Rare Metal you must use X and Zero. You must also
have Crystal Wall, Earthrock Trilobyte's weapon. And you must have Buster
Parts I. Go to the staircase room right before the trap room with the crates
that try to crush you. The Rare Metal is on the upper left part of the room.
Use Zero's double jump to get to it. Now, charge up X's Crystal Wall and
use it on the crate to get the Rare Metal.
===============================================================
10. Getting 100%
===============================================================
To get 100% for each stage, you must get the Dr. Light Capsule in that stage
and every Rare Metal in that stage. To get 100% for Mega Man X, you must have
all of X's power chips and all 8 armor parts. To get 100% for Zero, you must
have all of Zero's power chips. To get 100% for Axl, you must have all of Axl's
power chips. To get 100% game completion you must get 100% for all of the
stages, 100% for each of the three characters, and although I'm not sure about
this, you might have to beat the game in hard mode to get 100%. That's how you
get 100% for the game.
===============================================================
11. Secrets
===============================================================
New Game+- Beat the game once. You will have all metals that you have previously
gotten.
Play as Alia- Beat the game using Alia as your navigator more often than Layer
and Pallette in Normal or Hard mode. When you start a New Game+ she will be
available to use. Just purchase the chip in the R&D Lab that allows you
to use her. She acts just like X, except that she can't use any of X's Armors.
She can use power chips, however, and she can be upgraded to 100%. Thanks to
Cody Tharp for correcting me about me saying that Alia is not able to use power
chips.
Play as Layer- Beat the game using Layer as your navigator more often than Alia
and Pallette in Normal or Hard mode. When you start a New Game+ she will
be available to use. Just purchase the chip in the R&D Lab that allows
you to use her. She acts just like Zero, except that she can't use Zero's
Black Armor. She can use power chips, however, and she can be upgraded
to 100%. Thanks to Cody Tharp for correcting me about me saying that Layer is
not able to use power chips.
Play as Pallette- Beat the game using Pallette as your navigator more often
than Alia and Layer in Normal or Hard mode. When you start a New Game+
she will be available to use. Just purchase the chip in the R&D Lab that
allows you to use her.She acts just like Axl, except that she can't use
Axl's White Armor. She can use power chips, however, and she can be
upgraded to 100%. Thanks to Cody Tharp for correcting me about me saying
that Pallettte is not able to use powerchips.
Ultimate Armor for Mega Man X- Beat the game in normal mode with X with 100%
completion for X. You must have all of X's power chips and all 8 armor parts in
order to get 100% for him. X's Ultimate Armor allows him to do Ryu and Ken's
Shoryuken. Ryu and Ken are characters from Capcom's fighting game series,
Street Fighter.
Black Armor for Zero- Beat the game in normal mode with Zero with 100%
completion for Zero. You must have all of Zero's power chips in order to get
100% completion for him.
White Armor for Axl- Beat the game in normal mode with Axl with 100% completion
for Axl. Axl must also perform a double attack with either X or Zero on Sigma
to kill him in order to get the armor. You must have all of Axl's power chips
in order to get 100% completion for him.
Mega Man X's ending- Make the final blow to the final boss with X in Normal and Hard mode.
Zero's Ending- Make the final blow to the final boss with Zero in Normal and Hard mode.
Axl's Ending- Make the final blow to the final boss with Axl in Normal and Hard mode.
Have Lumine as the last boss after Sigma- Play through the game in hard mode,
and after you defeat Sigma you will fight Lumine.
Fight Cut Man in Optic Sunflower's Stage- If you have a Megaman X: Command
Mission save on the memory card that you use for Mega Man X8, you will fight
Cut Man from Mega Man 1 at the end of the stage, right before fighting Optic
Sunflower. You will fight him in 8-bit graphics. This doesn't get you anything.
It's just an easter egg that Capcom decided throw into the game.

12. About the Author
===============================================================
Well what can I say about myself? I'm 15 years old and I live in the USA
next to New York. I've been playing videogames for as long as I can remember.
One of the first SNES games that I played was Mega Man X1. I didn't know how to
play it all but my brother taught me. I remember the game so well because
that's one of the few games that actually taught me how to play videogames.
It's one of the few games that I can actually remember because of the
experience I had playing it and the experience I had when my older brother
taught me how to play it. Other video game series I love are Legend of Zelda,
Super Mario, Metal Gear, Castlevania, Street Fighter, Metriod, Mortal Kombat,
Final Fantasy, Age of Empires, Civilization, Empire Earth, Doom, and most of
the Star Wars game series. I probably have a few others too that I can't
remember off the top of my head. Besides videogames, I like to eat, watch TV,
sometimes read, play basketball, play baseball, and sleep. I go to an academic
high school, one of the best in my state, so you could say that I'm smart. ^_^
I'm involved in my school's Army JROTC (Junior Reserves Officer Training
Corps.) and in my school's science research class. Well that's it about me. I
guess you could say that I'm your Average Joe.
