INTRODUCTION - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _____________________________________________________________________________ |=============================================================================| | | | | | Official Box Description: | | "The city plans to destroy the concert hall! You are a | | promising young conductor attempting to recruit the best | | musicians in your town. Once you've got your ensemble | | together, it's time for the big show. A musical extravaganza | | at the Symphony Hall! Perform perfectly, and keep music | | alive for generations to come. Hit a bad note, and you'll | | be looking for a new gig! | | | | 11 levels to beat, including the epic | | performance at the symphony hall! | | | | Feel the music with touch | | sensitive controls! | | | | Recruit a lion, a model, a | | news reporter, a fisherman, | | and space aliens to play in | | your oddball orchestra!" | | | | | |_____________________________________________________________________________| '=============================================================================' Just like the box says, it's a unique kind of game where you have to perfect your playing or else you'll be out of luck. They're underestimating the amount of levels in the game since it only includes Story Mode. There's actually a LOT of replayability to the game! Uhhh..other than that, they hit the nail on the head. I'd have to say that this game plays a lot like Parappa the Rapper, but with a lot more complexity. I think this is the first music game to feature touch sensitivity as a main feature. You'll have to tap buttons at certain strengths to conduct your orchestra properly. Thank EB for clearance bins, otherwise this guide wouldn't exist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - 03. In this mode: · No matter how you conduct, you will always be able to play through to the end of the piece. · You can conduct at any strength, since no pressure variation is required. · Your performance will not affect the development of the story or saved data. Select CHILD MODE from the MAIN MENU. Use the directional button to select one of the Bravo Town characters and press the X button to start a stage. You can return to the MAIN MENU again by simultaneously pressing the L2, R2, and Triangle buttons. Concerts have no Tension Meter and you must conduct several pieces of music. · You will be evaluated on your performance when you've completed all the pieces. If the audience loves your performance, you will play an encore to finish the concert. · Upon completion of Story Mode, this becomes available to play. There are a total of 15 programmes to play through, each of which has different song sets. · If you manage to complete all 15 concert programmes, you will now be able to play the Final Concert. · In the Final Concert, you will have to play all 34 pieces of music in the game consecutively. You fail if you play a single piece poorly, so this is considered to be a great feat to complete (omg rhyming!). · By completing Concert Mode, you unlock an extra song. This can be done a total of three times, in addition to the Final Concert encore. These songs are: 1. William Tell Overture - Gioachino Rossini 2. HOW TO PLAY - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | I thought the in-game tutorial did a great job, so here's exactly | | what's in it! I'll add in some more explanations after, since it | | actually did miss a few key points. -NostalgicX | | | +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ ________________ +------------------+ | (05A) . Basics | +------------------+ Welcome to the wonderful world of "Mad Maestro!"! From this moment on you are a conductor! As a conductor, your job is to: · Control the tempo of the pieces · Control the volume · Control the part Conduct your orchestra with these 3 things in mind to perform well. There are 3 things that you must do as a conductor. The first thing to learn are the 'Baton Buttons' Press any of the square, triangle, circle or x buttons to 'keep the tempo' and follow the 'strength directions' You can press any one of the Baton Buttons. Use the easiest one to conduct with. The interval between each press of the Baton Buttons controls the tempo while volume is controlled by the strength with which you press the buttons. The 'Part Buttons' are the directional buttons which are used to direct your conducting. Press a Part Button in the direction that you wish to conduct at the same time as pressing a Baton Button to direct the performance. ____________________________ +------------------------------+ | (05B) . Screen Explanation | +------------------------------+ *GAME SCREEN ASCII HERE!* Let's look at the Game Screen. At the beginning, there are four circles on the screen. This is the 'Tempo Navigator' to help you to navigate around the screen when you are conducting. Each circle is a 'Cue Point' and the blue ball that moves between them is the 'Cue Ball'. The Tempo Navigator is made from the number of beats in the piece. If there are 4 of them, there are 4 Cue Points. So, there are 3 Cue Points for a piece with 3 beats. As the conductor you can measure the beat by pressing a Baton Button with good timing when the Cue Ball covers one of the Cue Points. Good timing is indicated with a circle. Perfect timing is indicated with two circles. You will be told why you are making mistakes. When you conduct too fast, the word 'fast' is displayed. And when you conduct too slow, the word 'slow' is displayed. By successfully conducting one bar of music with all circle or double circles, you will be evaluated as 'Good'. In contrast, you only need one 'X' mark for it to be evaluated as 'Bad'. Next. On the left of the screen is the Tension Meter. This meter will go up when you continue to perform well. The opposite is also true. The meter will sink when you conduct badly and you will fail the entire performance if you allow it to fall too low. Fill the Tension Meter and you will please the angel. This is when Angel Mode starts. You will clear the stage by continuing to play in Angel Mode. There is one thing that you should be cautious of! Angel Mode means that you are performing well. However, if you start to perform really badly... You will lose all the accumulated tension in one go and will start to play in Devil Mode. You must play a whole bar with double circles before you can start to accumulate tension again. Let's move on... On the right is the Pressure Meter. This indicates the strength that you are pressing the Baton Buttons. The Tempo Navigator shows you how the music should be performed. Grasp the tempo of evey piece and use the Baton Buttons to keep the tempo. The Tempo Navigator will change in size when the tempo changes. The Cue Points will move apart at passages when the tempo slows. Similarly the Cue Points will move closer together when the tempo speeds up. Constantly look for tempo changes and press the Baton Buttons with good timing to conduct. ____________________ +----------------------+ | (05C) . Cue Points | +----------------------+ The Cue Points come in three colors. These colors indicate the strength that you should conduct. You can control this strength depending on how hard you press the Baton Buttons. Keep an eye on the color of the Cue Points and try to apply the correct strength. The blue Cue Points are weak. The green Cue Points are medium... And the red Cue Points are strong!! You'll know when you've made a mistake, as the wrong color will be displayed in the Cue Point. Base your conducting on all of these elements, but also try to perform with feeling. The Pressure Meter indicates the strength that you are pressing the Baton Buttons. Try to keep the colors of the Cue Points and the Pressure Meter the same. Another thing... Sometimes the Cue Points contain an arrow. This indicates the part direction. Press one of the Part Buttons in the same direction as the arrow at the same time as you press a Baton Button. Your timing must be very good. If you make a mistake, an 'X' will be displayed and the orchestra will make a strange noise. What's more... Occasionally there are Cue Points with a Star. This is when you can sustain a note. Try holding down the Baton Button at a Star Cue Point. The Cue Ball will stop at the next Cue Point and the previous note will be held until you press the Baton Button again. Don't hold the note too long though, as the Tension Meter will drop. _____________________ +-----------------------+ | (05D) .
