I. Introduction

Welcome to the fourth FAQ I have made. This FAQ will give information about
characters in the Hot Shots Golf Fore! VS Mode. I play this game recently and
realizing that this game is quite fun. The graphics are good and the modes
are quite challenging.

Hot Shots Golf Fore! is back. Now the game has enhanced a little bit since the
previous installment. In VS Mode now, there are only 9 hole to shorten the
time. VS Mode is accessible via Single-Play. What does VS Mode do you say?
Well, let's put it simple. VS Mode enables you to unlock more characters.
There are total of 16 characters in this game and all have two different
outfits. So it would be quite interesting to collect all of the players and
outfits.

III. VS Mode
==============================================================================
You can enter VS Mode via the Single-Play menu. Then you will be taken to the
world map. Here in the world map, you select your opponents. They come in two
parts, Normal Mode and Hard Mode. Winning in Normal Mode will unlock that
character and might also unlock the Hard Mode. To unlock the Hard Mode, you
need to get at least 2UP against that opponent. Some opponents have their own
regulations in challenging them, which you must obey. They also have their own
ranks which vary from HSG Sub-rank 2 to HSG Almighty. Of course, the higher
the rank is, the better the performance of the character. Usually, high ranked
characters will do a perfect impact in every shot. Winning battles from high
ranked characters for an amount of times will also level up your rank. To win
the challenge, just get the ball in the hole with less stroke than your
opponent. You will get 1UP everytime you win a course. Get 4UP and then you
will automatically win. Should you get EVEN status on the last course, you
will be given a course to play once.

A. Terms in VS Mode
===================
There are several terms which I will use also in this FAQ. Those are:
- Costume
  Displays the name of the costume the character is wearing.

- Rank
  Displays the rank of the character.

- Condition
  Displays the regulation when challenging the character.

- Power
  Displays how strong the impact of the character.

- Carry
  Displays average distance travelled in a perfect impact.

- Control
  Displays how well the character can perform golf tricks.

- Impact
  Displays how well the character will perform a perfect impact.

- Spin
  Displays how well the character can perform spinning shots.

- Good
  Displays in what condition the character is good at.

- Bad
  Displays in what condition the character is bad at.

- Club
  Displays the club the character will be using.

- Ball
  Displays the ball the character will be using.

There are also some regulations used in the VS Mode. Those are:
- Standard Club Only
  Both players can only use Standard Club set.

- Everybody's Club Only
  Both players can only use Everybody's Club set.

- Cannot Change Course
  Both players must play in the selected course, either it's mirror, back tee,
  or normal.

- Hit a Tree +2
  Players will be given a penalty of 2 strokes if they hit a tree, this also
  applies to any part of the tree, and bushes.

- Points Match
  Players will play the game for collecting points. Should the game ended in
  EVEN status, the points will be calculated. Player with the highest point
  wins.

- Windy
  Players will play the game with strong winds. Usually the wind varies from
  2m up to 8m.

- Sand Trap +2
  Players will be given a penalty of 2 strokes if they are caught in the sand
  trap. Also, their points are reduced by 20 points as usual.

- Rough +2
  Players will be given a penalty of 2 strokes if their ball landed in rough
  terrains.

- No Backspin
  Players are forbidden to use backspin moves.

- Water Hazard
  Not in the regulations. Players will be given a penalty of 2 strokes if
  their ball plunged into the water. Also, their points are reduced by 40
  points.

- O.B.
  Not in the regulations. Players will be given a penalty of 2 strokes if
  their ball went out of bonds. Also, their points are reduced by 60 points.

IV. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Where do I buy clubs and other stuffs?
A: Precisely, the shop. Accessible via the menu Shop. You have to unlock those
   things first by using passwords. If you want to get it free, you'll have to
   play the game and getting higher rank. That way you'll be able to get most
   of the items for free. If the Shop menu has a ladybug resting there, that
   means there are new items in the shop available for purchase.

Q: Why there is an Easy Mode?
A: Selecting Easy Mode instead of Go Play will equip you with Everybody's Club
   set. That means, you don't have to set the impact for your ball. Just set
   the power. Simple and easy, but you can't do tricks using Everybody's Club
   set.

Q: How do I unlock the other outfits?
A: As I have mentioned before, just use the same characters again and again.
   Increasing their loyalty will give you access to their outfits. The same
   rule also applies for Caddies.

Q: Is there any ultimate club set or ball?
A: Yes, there is. It's the Infinity Club set. It's quite expensive and the
   price will go up everytime you get a higher rank. The same also applies for
   the Infinity Ball.

Q: How do I get the red or blue flames in my first stroke?
A: Press Square button once for the red flames. Red flames makes your ball go
   further than the usual. But you'll have to get a perfect impact to engulf
   the ball. Press Square button once again for the blue flames. Blue flames
   makes your ball go farthest. But you'll have to get a perfect impact to
   engulf the ball. Blue flames are only available in the first stroke. While
   red flames available all the time except in approaching mode. There's also
   a number which indicates the stock of flames you have.

Q: How do I do [this trick]?
A: Well, to do some tricks, you have to get a perfect impact. To do a Backspin
   you have to press Up when setting the power and Down when doing impact. To
   do a Sidespin you have to press Left/Right when setting the power and the
   opposite direction when doing impact. There are many tricks in this golf.
   You'll have to try them by yourself.

Q: How many scores are there in a course?
A: Well, it depends on your play. Hole-in-One gets you 400 points. I never had
   an Ace so I don't know how much points it will add. An Eagle gets you 300
   points. A Birdie gets you 200 points. A Par gets you 100 points. A Chip-In
   gets you points depending on how far you hit your ball. An Under-Par Opp.
   of 4 Par will give you 70 points, while in 5 Par will give you 50 points. A
   Super Shot will give you 30 points, and an Ultra Shot will give you 50
   points. A Fairway hit on the first stroke will give you 20 points.

Q: How do I unlock Regis the Dog?
A: Well, a lot of people have been asking this question recently, so I decided
   to put it in the FAQ section. To unlock Regis, you must play against Emma
   with at least 4UP points. That means, you'll have to get a perfect play
   against her.
