FAQ Info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ July 17, 2009 Project .hack continues in more ways than one. The four-part series known as .hack//I.M.O.Q. is being covered by yours truly in its entirety. I mean for this to be a consistent and fully detailed enough where you can follow all four volumes from start to finish. //Quarantine is the last volume of this quadrilogy (let's pretend that's a real word). Just like how I wrote the guides for the G.U. trilogy, this guide will assume you have followed my guidance through the previous volumes and are using the Convert option on the Clear Data (aka. Data Flag). If not, then the game's gameplay shouldn't change too much until I call for using an optional character from //Infection, //Mutation, or //Outbreak. I aim to make this game as easy for you as possible, but feel free to add as much difficulty as you prefer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ II. Controls ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please read the manual if you've a copy of it. Otherwise: -------------Terms------------- GP - Game currency. You need this to buy stuff. Exp - Experience. It takes 1000 experience to get from one level to the next. The higher you get, the less Exp a monster will be worth until either you hit max level or until the monster you're comparing is worth 1 EXP a kill. Lv - Level. The max is 99. Party - You play mainly as Kite. As you gain Member Addresses, you can invite up to two more people at a time if they are available. Desktop - This game has two modes. One is the main where you walk around and interact with other characters in a simulated MMORPG called The World. The other is the desktop, which is like a big menu full of options for you to explore. This provides a number of things to help play the game. Affection - Capped at 1000 in Volume 4, this measures how much a character will like Kite. However, unlike in G.U., this will only affect the Ryu Books instead of leading to a big event in the end. Of course, it affects the email chains you get from Kite's friends as well. Higher affection will allow for newer messages to appear as long as there are messages to be received. HP - The health your characters have. It's Game Over if everyone is dead. SP - Skill Points. The more you have, the more often you can use skills. Attack - Your attacks' damage is based on this. Defense - Your ability to resist attacks is based on this. Accuracy - Your ability to hit the target, obviously. Evade - Raising this increases your chance to be missed by an enemy's attack. * Attack, Defense, Accuracy, and Evade each have two listings. The first is the Physical, and the second is the Magical. So, if you have 99 Physical Defense but like 1 Magical Defense, and a spell comes your way, then you can count on it doing damage to you big time. That is, unless your stat for that spell's Element is high enough. Element - Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, Thunder, Darkness, Spirit, and Body. The six excluding Body and Spirit are how efficient your attacks and defenses are in those elements. This will come in VERY handy this game. Body and Spirit will reduce your chances of being inflicted with status effects, but will not make you immune. The said effects (below) are split between physical and mind based, and thus call for one of two items typically. Curse - Depletes HP gradually; calls for Restorative Poison - Depletes HP over time; Calls for Antidote Sleep - Immobilizes you; calls for Restorative Paralysis - Immobilizes you; calls for Antidote Charm - Attack allies for a time; calls for Restorative Confusion - Attack allies for a time; calls for Restorative Speed Down - Slows your movement; calls for Antidote or waiting a few seconds. The other stats have their own versions of this as well. Physical stats can be cured with Antidote or beaten with a boost of the same stat. The Magic stats call for Restorative or the temp stat boost. Areas - Almost all areas in these four games are made up of a field and dungeon together. Depending on the server and the three words put in, you can choose the element and average level of monsters you encounter. The areas to do with story are pre-chosen, and I'll add some to help with finding items and monsters. Server - This series' idea of a server is one of five roots to the many areas. In //Outbreak, we have Delta, Theta, Lambda, and Sigma servers. Save/Load - Through Data Manager or a Save Shop in a town, you can save a file of your progress on a memory card. Use this file to load and continue your progress. Convert - As of Mutation, when you turn on the game, you will see an option for converting data from the previous volume. This allows for all characters, levels, and items to be transferred over. As I said before, this guide will assume that you converted the Flag Data from all three volumes before this one. -------------Movement and Interaction------------- Walk/Run - Use the left analog stick. Tilting it lightly causes slow motion. Examining/Selecting - X button. This only works if something to examine is within range, or if there is a choice to be made. Don't ask why you can't talk to an NPC on the other side of town when you aren't moving. Trapped Chests - These are the blue chests with random effects if you just open them. You don't get the better item that way. Carry Fortune Wires for a few of these, though it won't be TOTALLY necessary until an event at the end of QUARANTINE. Target Toggling - When multiple targets are in range use the digital pad to switch from target to target. Cancel - Circle button. You do this to exit out of menus and such. Camera Angles - L1 turns to look left, R1 turns to look right. The R3 (right analog stick) can zoom in or out. R2 resets the camera to default, and L2 toggles between 3rd person and 1st person views. This is important. If you never adjust the view, then you won't be able to target a monster just because it's not on the screen (mainly with skills). -------------Menus and Such------------- Open a Menu - Triangle button. This works as long as you are walking around in a town, a field, a dungeon, or in a battle (not when you're being flung around or doing an attack). If you're in a menu, this won't work, so do not ask why you can't open the main menu while in the middle of a trade. Item Info - When you are highlighted over an item, press the Square button to receive info about that item. Store Menu - Talk to the NPC or character running the store, press X, and then select to view their wares. You will see price amounts. If you have the money to pay for the item you want, then press X while highlighting that same item. Item/Option Highlighting - Move either the left analog stick or the digital pad in the direction it takes to get from option to option. Chat Command Menu - When in an area, press Square. It's through this menu you can select specific skills and strategies from your party members. Chaos Gate Menu - While in a town, examine the Chaos gate. Select Warp Menu to see a bunch of options. If you already have an area bookmarked from the boards, emails, or story events, you can select the area from the Word List. Warp History lists all areas manually or randomly visited in order from the most recent on earlier without repeating any areas. Random will pull randomly from your pool of keywords. New Keyword allows you to do what Random does, but manually. There are three pools: -1st Word -2nd Word -3rd Word * The server you're on comes into play as well as these will alter the range of levels your Word pool is likely to play with. This will not be absolute, but it's the general rule. Gate Hacking - When it comes to areas to do with the story progression, there will be SOME instances where you will require Virus Cores to unlock the area. Some Data Bugs as bosses will provide what you need, and sometimes you'll receive a Virus Core through Email or someone handing one to you. Virus Cores A through L have to be gained through Data Draining enemies other than the predetermined bosses. * A-C: Delta/Theta * D-F: Lambda at lv. 31+ * G-I: Sigma at 51+ * J-L: Omega at lv. 71+ As for the Gate Hacking process . . . You will see a big screen with a cross on the left side and a list of the Virus Cores you got on the right. You can turn the cross clockwise by tapping left on your d-pad, and you can turn it the other way by tapping right. When a side of the cross is pointing down that has holes in it, you will see a letter (the type of Virus Core needed) and a number next to it (the number needed). You add the Virus Cores by tapping up on the d-pad until the holes are filled. They can be subtracted as well, but that's kinda useless. Once all the holes are filled, you can press X to permanently open the area. * During each walkthrough, I have suggested how many Virus Cores to try and get AT MINIMUM while you are fighting the monsters regularly. While this might slow the Exp. growth just a little, it will help in the long run to have what you need before you need it. You don't want to be level 80 or higher and trying to get Virus Cores A-C. You also don't want to drop your game progression to find more Virus Cores. * Over the course of Volume 4, I suggest getting a minimum of 14 Virus Core J's, 9 K's, and 3 L's. All that you saved, A-I, before this will be used as well. You may have extras, which is better than not having enough. * If you're using a cheat device to always have Virus Cores, then only use Cores A-L unless the game has given you the other ones you'll need. For those of you who don't: kudos. The cheat won't be needed. Trade - Talk to a character either walking around or that is in your party. Gift - You can select Trade with your party members. This has no Trade window, but you do see your own list of items as to what you wish to give. This helps in the affection level just a bit. Don't try giving multiple items at once, because it'll just be counted as one item. Rarity - Items are marked for their rarity. Most of the time, you will just want to put these in storage. I'll note when they have their use. Equipment - Weapon, head armor, body armor, wrist guards, and shoes. You can only equip a weapon specific to your class, and any defensive piece as long your class isn't excluded. Map - In the top-right corner of the screen, you can see the map of where you stand. In town, a dungeon block, or a grove, you will have the option of having the map up when you are not in battle, or you can toggle it off by pressing Select. In fields other than groves, there's a little more to the map. You see, other than the typical field, you have just the one map size. With the fields, however, you can toggle between Default Map, no map, and Overall Map. Overall Map is good for seeing where the portals, dungeon, and Spring of Myst can be found, whereas the Default Map lets you see the formations where you could find Symbols or grunty food. -------------About Battles------------- Yay, they're not random. The battles are in set places, though you COULD be attacked by wandering monsters on the field. In a dungeon, you cannot leave a room with any monsters in it still alive because the doors stay closed until you are victorious. * TIP: Sometimes, on a field, you will see two portals too close together for comfort. The way around this is to get close enough to one to activate it, and then run away from it just far enough to separate enemy party from additional opposition. I hope this helps you. Attack - Press X like you're interacting with an object or a character. You attack with Twin Blades, and can keep doing so repeatedly. Game Over - When you run out of health, you have to start over from the last place you saved. Game Over also occurs if your Infection from Data Drain reaches 100%. Items/Spells - To use these in battle, you must open the main menu and select what you want to use from there. The skills and spells are all separated into different tabs, with the last being for your Data Drain. Items also are separated into tabs. When in battle, you'll likely be using them from the first two tabs. Beyond that, you'd have to go into Equipment to fix whatever weapon you have equipped depending on what a battle's strategy may call for. But, I will cover this when it comes up. Strategy - This one is a little more complex than it needs to be, and it could get you into trouble if you leave it alone. First, you have to set the battle formation, which will very likely switch between Wonder Battle and Union Battle most of the time. Second, DURING combat you can shout to one party member to do first aid through the fight or to do a designated skill one time. You can also have that specific character change equipment as long they are carrying alternative stuff, which YOU have to give them. Data Drain Infection - As you Data Drain enemies, your infection level will rise. The higher in level you are compared to the monster, the less you will get infected from one use. As you gain other forms of Data Drain, you should note that the original Data Drain infects Kite less than the others. An email from Helba claims that the less infected you are, the easier it will be to get a Virus Core from most monsters, but I have yet to confirm this. To bring DOWN infection, Kite must physically attack some monsters and DEAL THE KILLING BLOW. The way you can check the level of infection is the silhouette image that appears next to the skill tab for the Data Drain skills. You won't see the exact percent of infection, but you will see colors in that silhouette to give an idea of where you are. They are as follows: * White - 0% to 24% * Blue - 25% to 49% * Green - 50% to 74% * Yellow - 75% to 98% * Orange - 99% * Red - 100%; GAME OVER * Maybe it's my screen, but I've never been able to see a difference between the white and blue levels. Either that, or the blue looks green ONLY on the Infection Status Window. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ III. Entity's Corner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It started with a woman who decided to write an epic poem, but she never got to finish it. A programmer who knew her decided to make a virtual world to depict this poem, and FRAGMENT was born with a hidden purpose within it. Soon after, FRAGMENT was revised to The World, and all was well in the public eye. But, some individuals found out differently, and two heroes of a major event dared to investigate. One dared as well to invite a real life friend to play this game with him. This was Kite. In their first trip together, Orca did teach Kite how to play his favorite game just before things went wrong. Orca's player fell into a coma in the living world, and Kite's true adventure began. BlackRose, a middle school girl in a search for answers to why her own brother fell into a coma, teamed up with Kite as they both met many people . . . some knowing something is wrong, and some ignorant of it all. Finally, Kite had a showdown with the monster responsible for Orca's coma, but the monster's defeat was just the beginning. Kite and BlackRose soon found themselves stalked by the administrator Lios, who threatened them with character deletion before the hacker known as Helba talked Lios into giving them a chance to figure out the cause of The World's issues. Kite and BlackRose followed as it was their only lead on information, but then came another opporunity when they tracked down Wiseman about his knowledge of the Epitaph of Twilight. Wiseman directed our duo to find Helba at Net Slum, but Lios and Balmung took this chance to try to delete the trio. Fortunately, he was made unable to do this. Unfortunately, Magus had shown itself. A fight waged as victorious as against Skeith and Innis. Upon returning to town, Kite and BlackRose discovered that the problem had mutated to more than just players falling into comas. As the infection had begun breaking out around the world, Kite began having doubts. Mistral left since everything was too dangerous for her unborn baby. Kite needed reassurance that he and his companions were doing the right thing. And this he got from BlackRose, Wiseman, and Balmung. They finally won the trust and help of Lios. They had finally developed a plan which seemed so far like it was working once Gorre was beaten. The damage to the whole network was no longer furthered by our heroes' actions. Meanwhile, Mia has gone missing, and she is breaking like the system of The World. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IV. Walkthrough ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * For the purpose of this guide (A) will be Delta, and (8) will be Theta. (^) will stand for Lambda. Please do not confuse it for Delta's (A). (E) will represent Sigma. (Q) Will stand for Omega. These are to help you know which server we're on. * Also, I will provide SOME maps. Here's the key for most of them: = Pathway between east and west I Pathway between north and south, or else a weird wall M Magic Portal (monster or chest spawn point) B Boss c Treasure Chest; CAPS for 2+ v Virus Crystal T Gott Statue and main chest of dungeon k Destructible items (ie., skeletons, boxes, etc.,); CAPS for 2+ P Random buff Symbol found in dungeon map g Grunty Food; CAPS for 2+ u Way up in dungeons d Way down in dungeons (or into dungeons in groves) @ Spring of Myst in a grove ^ Space, nothingness, or even a special boss when noted as such -------------Vengeful Cursed Wave's Containment------------- ~~Part 1: Into the Last~~ After the couple of scenes you can skip, you'll appear on the desktop, .hack's method of emulating real life events (and some actions) when Kite is not online on The World. You are forced here to read your email first. Email: CC Corp informs you of an upgrade in The World. This includes the Neuro Gloves, which in no way affects us as it's just part of .hack being futuristic, and Item Completion, even though that won't truly begin until this volume's epilogue. Lios tells you the Omega server has opened up, and he wants everyone to meet there. Aura sends a garbled message that is easier to read than her previous ones. It reads: "Kite, thank you. I might have asked you to do something very horrible... But please lend me your help a little more..." News: There is a scrambled message that nobody can read. The Web NEWS Distributor apologizes for the scrambled message, and says it was from server trouble. Another article refers to recents events as the Second Network Crisis as well as "Pluto Again" Select The World. You will appear on the title screen of The World. The Board has nothing of importance just yet, but feel free to do a quick "read" of the threads so there aren't any new messages left. Your choice. Log in. Fort Ouph-- You will see Elk. He's starting to go crazy in looking for Mia. Use the Chaos Gate to switch servers--Other Servers--to Omega. Lia Fail-- You are here just long enough for a scene in which the server crashes. Lia Fail-- Helba compensated the crashed server with one of her own by using Net Slum as the background for the new root town. Kite will compare the containment plan to how orcas hunt for food. Wiseman reveals that Helba is working on a vaccine program to counter the Cursed Wave by at least cornering it. Lios says he'll have his employees run the vaccine. Lios needs a better understanding of the data at the moment, so he sends Kite to investigate it at (Q) Bigoted Snowflake's Capsule. Head south toward the Chaos Gate, and then northeast to find the Grunty Ranch. We should have more than enough grunty food to get started since we had a bunch at the end of //Outbreak. Let's start with the Noble Grunty. 20 of any Egg or 40 of any type of food will do, BUT please leave aside 37 Golden Eggs and 7 Cordyceps for the other two grunties of this server. Speaking of grunties, go to Lambda and Sigma. With Healing Potions, trade with the grunties you've raised (minus the Noble grunties) for Golden Grunties and Silver Grunties. Use these. Check your Ryu Books. Upon returning to Omega server, raise a Rocker Grunty with 18 Golden Eggs and 4 Cordyceps. You can get another Golden Grunty from him for Kite to use. Rocker Grunty also has an Angel Chain, a Celestial Robe, and a War God Guard. Trade for them using all those Golden Axes and Silver Axes from the previous volumes, and give them to Wiseman. * Speaking of trade, one of the milestones in the Ryu Books is to trade at least once with everybody. Call your whole party, start looking out for the players running around town, or whatever. You have time. It only needs to be done by the end of the game if you want everything to be done. * For Micino and Tim, you will need a total of 10 Golden Axes and 10 Silver Axes. I suggest doing these two trades at the end if you decide to do Item Completion. * Terajima Ryoko has a Feng Shui, Water Magic, and Fire Magic you can trade for. Use them upon getting them. Invite Wiseman and BlackRose. It's time to finally get started on an area. You will need to do some Gate Hacking, but should have the Virus Cores needed from the previous games. (Q) Bigoted Snowflake's Capsule-- Unlocking Virus Cores: E x3, H x2, I x2 # of Field Portals: 16 # of Dungeon Portals: 12 # of Symbols: 0 Spring of Myst: n/a Monsters: Acanthaster, Dark Maiden, Hand of God, Lich (D), Star Viking (D), Skull Devilgon (D), San=Hi/ (B), Sand Hill (B) Since this trio should be level 72 already, this areas will be easy. Have the heals done by Wiseman every battle. Also, have Wiseman deal a Fire spell on Acanthaster at the start of each encounter. That will cut battle times. You do not need to clear the field's portals. Also, do not worry about using Data Drain until the boss. ___________ | k g | ___ | | ___ |d |=| M |=|KcK| """ | | """ | g k | B1 """""I""""" ___ | k| "I" |-| ___ ___ ___ |-| | |=| k|=| |=|g k|=| | ___|"M | """ "I" """ | M"|___ | / ___ \ | "I"""" | u | """"I" ___ """ ___ |CgK| |KvK| """ """ As troublesome as Lich may be, it is still worth halfway decent Exp. Use Data Drain when it does to get a Virus Core M. * Your first Data Drain of volume 4 will grant you Drain Heart, which we'll likely not use. It does look cool, however. A simple Sand Hill will remain. Be sure Kite gets the killing blow on it to keep down his Infection level. ***End of Battle*** You will leave automatically. Lia Fail-- If you wish to complete that last area, then do so now. Log out when finished. ~~Part 2: The Last of the Weird Rooms~~ News: Read the "Malpractice" article. Or at least open it to continue. Email: Helba explains about Virus Cores J-L Lia Fail-- BlackRose is waiting at the Chaos Gate. After the scene, talk to Spiritas, who is standing by there as well. He tells of a strange room in (E) Screaming Wind Sand's Fate Castle. Head to the Grunty Ranch to give the Little Grunty enough food--3 Cordyceps and 19 Golden Eggs--to raise a Woody Grunty. Trade with him for the Silver Grunty, and use it. Since we will need a couple Virus Core J's already, we might as well do a quick area to also get everyone's level up a little. Invite BlackRose and Wiseman. (Q) Hidden Passed Over Sea of Sand-- # of Field Portals: 8 (+ wandering groups) # of Dungeon Portals: 11 # of Symbols: 11 Spring of Myst: Monsieur Lv. 5 Monsters: Aurora Feather, Wood Maiden, Jealous Cobra, Drill Idol (D) Utilize the Spring of Myst by throwing in a Rare item like the Lucky Shoes, and selecting "neither," when you are asked what you dropped. You will get back the Lucky Shoes, but also get a Silver Axe and Glden Axe. Clear the field of its portals, but be sure to take out wandering groups before you activate any portals. You don't want to be overwhelmed, do you? * Remember, Woody Grunty can sense magic portals. Press triangle while you ride him to find one. Aurora Feather is big enough to acquire a Virus Core L, but you should focus on the J's for now. Have Wiseman use Yarthkins Rf on them once or twice while Kite and BlackRose use lesser Earth spells. Wood Maidens can be Data Drained for Virus Core J. They're easier to get into Protect Break by using a spell or two that is aligned with anything other than Earth or Wood. Once you have your first couple Virus Core J's, you should space out your Data Drain usage. Have Kite deal killing blows to enemies to keep down his Infection level. Jealous Cobra likes to Charm your allies, so be ready to use a Restorative. They are weak to Wood spells. By the time you start the dungeon, you should have 3 Virus Core J's, 1 L, and be close to the party reaching level 74. _______________ ___________ ___ | M |=| d| | u | | |""""""""""" """"""""""" | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | "I" "I" ___ ___ | | | | | |___ ___ ___ ___| | | M |=|k \___/ k|=| M | """"""" "\ c /" """"""" "\ /" "I" ___ |c k| ___________ B1 "I" | k | ___ | | |gk |=| M M | "I" | | ___ | k | | c | """"""""""" """ Same strategies on the first block as the field minus the wandering groups of monsters. You still have a room to be careful with since it has two portals. Data Drain only the Wood Maidens through this dungeon. The second block is just BARELY too big to fit in this guide's format, and you don't really need it. Go south a room, west to the end for a magic portal, and east all the way for most of the rest. Coming back west from the room with two portals, the first fork to the north leads to the last portal of the dungeon. The next fork is the Gott Statue. Drill Idol hits very hard, but it's very weak to Darkness. * Give BlackRose a Dark Dragon if/when you get one. * Stick around this area until you have 5 Virus Core J's and all 3 L's that you will ever need. Email: If you get BlackRose's email "A thought," it is the start of her email chain for this volume. I'll walk you through all of them at the same time. You can wait, or you can look it up now. Moonstone needs your help at (E) Breezing Sage's Walkway, but we'll save this for later since it's a level 85 area. Piros wants you to come with to (E) Unmatched Worst Abyss, which is where we need to go to advance in the story. Sorry. When you log in, go to the Omega server. Lia Fail-- Don't invite anyone just yet. The first thing I'll cover this chapter is the last grunty flag race. Talk to the merchant at the Grunty Ranch, and pay 100 GP to participate in the race. For this server, I recommend using Woody Grunty since he's got the best chance of winning. ***The Omega Flag Race*** 2nd Record: 8.60 seconds 1st Record: 8.26 seconds This is the shortest course, which means you will need to learn how to not make mistakes in order to get to 2nd or 1st place. Red - Run straight for the red, but don't go right through it. Make a hard turn toward the Green at just the right time to clip the Red. If this takes longer than 2.5 seconds, then you are taking too long. You'll be turning toward the northeast. Watch out for the walls. Green - Be careful here since someone could be running on your path. Try to go around them if you must, or pray that there is nobody there. Turn and clip the Green toward the Purple. Getting the green can be a little tricky if you're trying to do this without adjusting your screen, but it is still very much possible. If you miss the flag, you'll have to quit the race to try again. Purple - Watch out for the stacks of boxes and any person that might be there. This distance might look like an arc, but keep as straight as you can. Beat Balmung's time of 8.26 seconds, and you're done! It takes practice like any other race. Don't get disheartened by not getting 1st or 2nd. Getting within a second of 3rd grants you a Soul Charm, which at least sells for more than the cost of a single race. 3rd Place gives you an Emperor's Soul the first three times, and a Divine Cross after that. 2nd will earn you up to three Silver Grunties, and then bee worth Summon Night per win. 1st grants you a Golden Grunty for the first three wins and a Thundercall after that. The first time you get to 1st, however, you also get Image 54. If you get to 1st place in all four servers' grunty flag races, you also get Image 55 on your desktop. ***End of Race*** Use any Silver and Golden Grunties you gain from this race. Next, invite Balmung and BlackRose for the Golden Goblin match. You read that right. You can bring allies to this one. You will want to bring melee types to the first one. Bring Warrior Bloods and Hunter Bloods. These guys are very fast, so you will have to do you best to cut off Stehoney while Balmung and BlackRose chase each one down. It's tricky, but you can do it. Switch targets for your allies when the first Stehoney falls. * A good way to get hits in is to have Kite use spells like Rai Rom, which will likely just slow Stehoney down for a second or two. Balmung and BlackRose--buffed with Hunter Blood--can get a hit or two in. GiGan Don works well, too. When you finally win, you will get a Goblin Cap Z. ***End of Battle*** You're done here. Gate out when ready. Lia Fail-- Switch servers after you store the Goblin Cap Z. Fort Ouph-- Replace Balmung and BlackRose with Piros and Wiseman. It's time to do the area Piros wants us to come to. That goes into storage. ***End of Battle*** You're done here. Lia Fail-- The same party will be needed for the next couple areas. Stock up BlackRose and Wiseman with plenty of Antodites and Restoratives as well as some Recovery Drinks and Resurrects. Clear the field and dungeon on your first visit since the enemies will provide quite a bit of Exp. * Over the course of your first visit to this area, try to get 5-6 Virus Core K's. You can get more, but I would prefer you pace yourself since we'll be visiting this area again. Also try to get a couple J's to get your current count back to 4. The good news is that Conquerors are weak to Thunder; the bad news is that they like to hit hard and often. They also can resurrect one another, so have some distraction ready such as Data Drain or Paralysis. The same with Alucard, but they are weak to Water. I suggest using Data Drain on them for a chance to get Virus Core K's. I've noticed a better chance of those with Alucard than with Conqueror. As usual, have Kite deal the finishing blows as needed. Getting a couple more Virus Core J's won't hurt, either. Just hope you don't et into too much trouble by fighting large groups or by Suvi Lei (or The Hanged Man) not working. Use Ap Do and 1 of each Blood item on every member of your party. Head through the doorway for a scene. Mia is going crazy. You learn Mia is an AI. Not only that, but she's one of the eight phases. Elk is forced out, and you're forced to fight Phase 6: The Temptress, Macha. ***Macha*** HP: Inf. P.Res/M.Res: None Element: None Rec.Lvl: 79 Overall, Macha (Ma-Ha) is pretty easy for a Phase as long as you can get around just one problem. She likes to Charm you. Poor Mia? Yes. But, this must be done. Here's a breakdown of what Macha does: Earthquake - The basic jump/slam attack of any Phase. Heal any who gets hit. This one, however, does more SP sapping and less HP damage. Ranki Lei - A single target is hit with Confusion. Use a Restorative, or call for First Aid if Kite is hit. Sprite of Love - An energy ball hits any target within this skill's range. Use Recovery Drinks on anyone who is hit. PhaGan Zot / PhaRue Zot / PhaVak Don / PhaRai Don - Level 4 spells. Heal when either one is used. BlackRose likely won't survive this one. Suspicious Seduction - This unavoidable skill Charms the whole party. Hope the party survives this long enough for it to wear off. Whoever breaks free first should use Restoratives on the party. Then you should heal everyone as the fight resumes. Use a Resurrect if necessary. Data Drain - Macha hits a target with every status ailment. Use an Antidote and Restorative ASAP. Call for First Aid if Kite is hit. Start this fight off like any other Phase or most Data Bugs. Set the party to Skills. Have Kite do normal attacks so he can use healing items or Data Drain at a split second's notice. Rebuff the party if needed, too. The Protect Break will happen eventually, so don't be disheartened if it takes a while. You will get Segment 3. Macha's HP will also just be 6000, not including her heals for 400. Also, the spells are weaker, and you'll have no more Charm to worry about. Confusion still can happen. Put Macha to rest. ***End of Battle*** Watch the scene. Fort Ouph-- Sell and restock. Switch to Omega when you're ready. ~~Part 5: Shadow and Vengeance~~ Lia Fail-- You might want to save your game. Same party; BlackRose and Wiseman. (Q) Cruel Vindictive Scars-- # of Field Portals: 15 # of Dungeon Portals: 11 # of Symbols: 5 Spring of Myst: n/a Monsters: Conqueror, Alucard, Wood Maiden, Jealous Cobra (D), Earth Hsien (D), Cubia Welcome to trip number two of three. The Exp won't be as good this time, so use the monsters to clean up Kite's Infection level between Data Drains. Data Drain enough monsters here to get to 9 Virus Core K's, and you'll be done with those. Have patience. Just the J's will remain at this point. Get to 5-6 of them before this visit is over, not including the four already used. The whole layout is the same, so make your way to that room I marked with an asterisk during the first visit here. As you enter the dungeon, you're told that Elk left with the vaccine program, but Lios is cut off. Kite suggests going down, hence being why I say to get to that final room. There's no real need to do much fighting, especially once you get the Virus Cores I suggested. That makes this dungeon kinda quick. But, BEFORE ENTERING THE FINAL ROOM, stop at the purple smoke. Buff everyone with the Blood items. Don't worry about Ap Do. Step through the doorway for a scene. Lios informs you that the cursed wave ate some of the vaccine and wiped out his staff. Aura then appears to claim her third and final segment. Cubia then shows his ugly face. ***Cubia*** HP: 4000 (Cubia Core), 1600 (Repth Gomora), 1500 (Kill Gomora), 1400 (Downer and Varias Gomora) P.Res/M.Res: Alternates Element: None Rec.Lvl: 79 As soon as the Cubia Core appears, Designate Target on it with BlackRose and Wiseman. If you see it has Physical Tolerance, set them to Magic. If it has Magic Tolerance, then set BlackRose to Attack and Wiseman to First Aid. Kite will be in charge of heals during the rounds that Wiseman is using magic, but he can also deal normal attacks to the Cubia Core during that time. If you're strong enough, then the Gomoras won't stand much of a chance to do you any harm. It then falls on Cubia's big attacks that you have to heal. Get a good rhythm going, and the first Cubia Core will go fast. ***Cubia*** HP: 5500 (Cubia Core), 1600 (Repth Gomora), 1500 (Kill Gomora), 1400 (Downer and Varias Gomora) P.Res/M.Res: Alternates Element: None Rec.Lvl: 79 Between Cubia Cores, heal or rebuff as needed. Continue doing as you've been doing. The full battle will be over faster than Macha just was. Remember, just stay on the Cubia Core. ***End of Battle*** After Cubia retreats yet again, you'll return to root town. Lia Fail-- Watch the scene. Everyone, even Mistral, will show up to help with the vaccine now that it's been improved. Note that the translation has Mistral call her unborn baby a "him," which is wrong, but let's move right along. MISTRAL IS BACK! We can use her in parties again . . . once Mistral has leveled up. You are told to return to where we just were again. BlackRose says she's coming to this one as well. * No Orca, Mia, or Elk, though. You'll have to wait to see them. * At this point there are new things you can read on the Board and the News, but it's more of a read-for-depth sort of deal if anything. Sell and restock big time. You might want to be sure that Recovery Drinks and Artisan's Souls are pretty close to maxed out, but I'll leave that up to you. Save your game, too. Bring plenty of Blood items since this Phase is deadly. (Q) Cruel Vindictive Scars-- # of Field Portals: 15 # of Dungeon Portals: 8 # of Symbols: 5 Spring of Myst: n/a Monsters: Conqueror, Alucard, Wood Maiden, Jealous Cobra (D), Earth Hsien (D), Tarvos Last time, I swear. Use the Wood Maidens to acquire more Virus Core J's. You have already used 4 of them, so your count should be at 10, thus completing the Virus Cores A-L for the entire first series. The dungeon is even faster simply because the fourth block is cut short. The doorway with the purple smoke is in the same room as the stairs. I hope you got the Gott Statue during one of the previous visits. Do a full buff-up, and proceed through the door to find Phase 7: The Avenger, Tarvos. ***Tarvos*** HP: Inf. P.Res/M.Res: Alternates Element: None Rec.Lvl: 79 This one hits hard and takes a long time to get into Protect Break. Do this when you have the time to spare. The other thing to keep in mind is that this Phase also alternates its resistances. More on this fact below. Earthquake - Generic Phase attack. This one's strong. Heal all you are hit. PhAni Zot - Level 4 Darkness summon. Heal the target, or Resurrect/rebuff them since this hits very hard. Malice Light - Some light is thrown into the sky, and it comes down unavoidably upon a target. Heal all after this. Rain of Daggers - Miniatures of Tarvos' stake are launched on a target. Heal this target both during and after the attack so they have a chance to stay alive. You have a split second to react before the target is bombarded to death, so act fast! Cursed Death Play - A mud dummy of Kite or one of his party members is made. This dummy is then impaled. Instant death on selected target. Resurrect this person (First Aid if Kite is hit), Artisan's Soul, and rebuff. Kite will have to stand back for this moment while the others continue with the assault. Crying/Barrier Shift - You will see what looks like tears coming out of three sockets before it submerges into the ground. This this chance to quickly heal or rebuff if needed, but also take this chance to change everyone's strategy accordingly. If Tarvos has Physical Tol. going in, then set all to Attack and then Wiseman to First Aid. IF Tarvos goes under with Magic Tol. then set all to Magic. Tarvos emerges with the opposite of what he had when this trick began. Dek Do - Use Ap Do on the affected target Suvi Lei - Use an Antidote or call for First Aid Mumyn Lei - Use a Restorative or call for First Aid Data Drain - You know the drill. Antidote, Restorative, Recovery Drink; call for First Aid if Kite is hit. Start this off by having everybody use magic. Kite's spells should only be the quicker ones like GiGan Don, but, more than that, they should be only if he has the time for it while Tarvos' Physical Tol. is up. Kite will be in charge of heals and rebuffs through this fight. When it's the Magic Tol. that's up, Kite can do some normal attacks, BlackRose can be set to Attack (via the whole party command), and Wiseman can be set to First Aid. Like I said, the Protect Break WILL come. You need time and patience while you attack and heal. Data Drain when you can to get a Virus Core Z. 7000 HP will remain after that. No more resistance to anything, but Tarvos can heal for 400 HP instead. His Earthquake is a little stronger, too. Pound away until this Phase is no more. ***End of Battle*** Yes, that was a scream coming from the dying Tarvos. You'll return to town. Lia Fail-- You'll gt a scene involving Net Slum's residents. You may remember them from //Mutation right before you went to fight Magus. * If you wish to do the grunty flag race on Omega now that there's nobody on except you and your party (who can be removed easily), then go for it before the players return. When you log in, go to the Omega server. Lia Fail-- Elk is waiting for you. He's coming with to the area provided by Aura. Give him the Staff of Truth you got from Orca. To do the Item Completion event, there are NPCs in each server by the Chaos Gate. Talk to them, and select Item List to register every non-rare item that is in your inventory or Elf's Haven. These items include having at least one of every grunty food and one of every Virus Core A-L. Buy one of every item at every store to knock out some of the list as well. Look for trade partners for some of the remaining items. The rest can be found in dungeons. This is very tedious, so it's up to you whether or not the desktop items is worth it. If you decide to do it, then wait on the purchases portion until the very end. * As of now, there is only one person you cannot trade with at the moment. If you traded with Mia in the earlier volumes, however, then you can now complete Ryu Book III. See the corresponding section of my guide below to see what must be done. * Helba has a Darklore. Tsukasa has both a Secret: Reason and Book of Ideas you should trade for. Tsukasa also has a full set of equipment you might want to get to give to BlackRose, though she should already have the Omega Guard. Subaru has a Secret: Awaken and Book of Ideals on her. Sora has a Secret: Thief. Use all these items. Invite Wiseman and and Helba. Give Wiseman the Staff of Truth. Buy at least 6 Beast's Bane scrolls, and equip the Lady's Mail. When the dungeon is clear, use the 2128 Drain on Psyche Vision and Astro King to get the Hades Gloves and Golden Crown. 2128 Drain the Ominous Skull for Greaves of Awe. I'll explain what to do with both of these below. * Also, get a Sublimer from Data Draining the Astro Kings. Equip it, and carry the Blades of Bond as your Rare item for the Springs of Myst. Blades of Bond will still be useful for Ap Corv and Thunder Dance. Lia Fail-- Sell and restock. Go back to one of the areas provided by Net Slum's residents to find and defeat The Bracelet enough times to get Kite to level 98. It may take a while to do, but it will be worthwhile for the long dungeon coming up. In fact, use one of the three afforementioned areas that have regular fields so you can hop on a grunty from portal to portal until you find The Guardian. You will want to shorten the time it takes a good bit. * Periodically, you should go to a low-level area to have Kite kill enough enemies to clean his Infection level. When you get Kite to level 98, you will just need to upgrade Elk's armor so he will be of use during the upcoming dungeon. There are some monsters that you can Data Drain (or 2128 Drain) to get better equipment for everyone. Find each item, get them checked off for the Item Completion, and then distribute them accordingly: Golden Crown and Hades Gloves - See above as to where to get them. Give the Golden Crown to Elk, and the equip Hades Gloves on Kite. Greaves of Awe - Same thing here. Give to Elk. Demon's Hands and Uber Guard - Find a Pandora's Box somewhere, such as the area (Q) Collapsed Forest Green Twin Hills. They have both of these items. Data Drain to get one or both, and then 2128 Drain to get the Uber Guard if you don't already have it. The Demon's Hands goes to BlackRose, and the Uber Guard goes to Elk. Able Lamellar - In the dungeon of the same area are Blue Wyrms, which you can get this item from via Data Drain. Kite should already have one, but, if you need something to give to the other Twin Blades or Long Arms, then this works out nicely. Fallen Pope - Find Cerberus in the same dungeon on the fourth block. 2128 Drain it for this head piece for Kite. A warning, though; putting it on in place of the Lady's Cap will mean you'll need to carry some The Hanged Man scrolls, which you should be doing anyways. I suggest you open the Gott Statue here. Shadow Robes - Go to (Q) Unmatched Fatal Spiral, and 2128 Drain this from a Madam Niagara. Give this to Elk. Clear the dungeon here to get Kite and BlackRose to level 99. Elk should be at least level 97. Usurper Helm and Ultra Leg Mail - Trade with Tsukasa, and give these to BlackRose after you checked them off the Item Completion list. That should do it. Kite is keeping the Time Sandals still because they remain convenient after all these games. ~~Part 2: The Darkside of The World~~ The party will be BlackRose and Elk for this. I hope you prepared them like I explained above. Be sure to fix them up with plenty of healing items as usual. Kite will need Blood items, Restoratives, Antidotes, Recovery Drinks, Healing Elixirs, Artisan's Souls, Knight's Bane scrolls, maybe some Noble Wine, and a good number of Fortune Wires. * NOTE: You will need time for this dungeon. You will need to understand that the dungeon is riddled with Data Bugs, and, in order to survive, Kite absolutely must be the one to deliver to final blow to every monster you encounter. I will be providing maps for much of this so you can see the shortest route from one floor to the next. I had you level Kite all the way to 99 because that is his best chance to Data Drain each monster with as little Infection rate as possible. * TIP: Use only the regular Data Drain. Anything more would cause Kite's Infection level to rise too fast. Other than that? Pray. Hope that at least a few of the portals are chests. When you are all set, save your game. This will also open Movies 99-102 and Images 87-96 on your desktop. ~~Part 3: Loose Ends and Chains~~ Lia Fail-- Now that you can invite Mia again, you can level everyone to 99 and bring their Affection up to 1000. But, wait, there's still a little more to do! Remember the Ryu Books? Let's finish them. We have a couple other things besides. * Mia has a Sealore. Trade for and use it if you never traded with her in the previous games. With any well-equipped melee fighter and Wavemaster in your party, let's go to a few areas. Bring your own Fairy's Orbs. And you only have to clear dungeons if Ryu Book II doesn't already count 75 cleared. (Q) Sickened Imprisoned Fallen Angel - You would think level 78 areas are easier to find. Anywho, go to the dungeon. On the second block you can meet /onB=ll^$&a (IronBall Mania), and on the fourth block is A:ro*a Fe/th&r (Rainbow Tail). The Gott Statue may hold Risky Coffee in its chest. (Q) Reincarnated Elusive Lyric Poet - $nder^mo\ (Wander Demon) appears in the field and in the dungeon starting on the second block. On the third block you have a chance to meet Maga*umk\ro (Magatumkuro). The Gott Statue has a Christmas Card. (Q) Mysterious Haunted Duel - Hell Slicer can be found around the bottom of the dungeon. They resist physical attacks, so have a Wavemaster kill it fast with their Vulcan spell. I have now told you how to find all 303 monsters. Ryu Book IV is complete. If you look at Ryu Book VI, however, you will notice that you still have a few Gott Statues left to go. Take this opportunity to go to random areas in the level 90 range so you can accumulate some treasure items as gifts for some of your characters. I recommend going to areas with the 3rd Word being "Fallen Angel" or "Sea of Sand" so you can also knock out some Grandpa encounters. Once you have the Gott Statues finished up, go to any server to finish up the Springs of Myst. Again, "Fallen Angel" and "Sea of Sand" are your best bet for finding Monsieur and Grandpa at a fast pace. This will complete Ryu Book VII. All that remains besides the Item Completion is to get everyone's Affection up and to complete all the email chains in Quarantine. Use the treasure items you picked up before now, and look up my list of where to find those great pieces of equipment. Healing Elixirs work well if given one at a time, too. You will want everyone's Affection to be 960 or higher before you start on the emails, which I have detailed below. * You handle the email chains like with any other .hack game. Respond to each person, go to The World title screen, and return to the desktop to find the next message. Each good response provides 10 Affection. * BlackRose's chain starts with "A thought," not with "You know." I think you can answer that one either way, but I like picking "Me too."
