Assumptions and Guidelines  pw002

While I know that there are people who can outrun the Formula Gran Turismo
with a Fiat, and then go on to flame the rest of us for suggesting
strategies that suggest using a more powerful and highly upgraded car, this
FAQ is intended to be useful to the rest of us 'normal' people who can't get
200 A-spec points on every race. I'll be the first to admit that there are a
few 1 A-spec point races that I have a hard time with.

This guide was written for two reasons. Number one, I needed a concise list of
all the races and which cars could win those races easily. Secondly, I needed
to know what upgrades were needed in order to win with those cars. I am not
going to include any suspension setups as I do not tune my car's suspensions,
and everyone has a different preference. I will list all upgrades I use, and I
will not use suspension upgrades unless they come with the car, and then I
will leave the default settings. All cars get an oil change right off the bat.

Auto stability will be turned off on all cars, and traction control will be set
either to 0 or 1 depending on the car. I'll leave it up to you to decide how
you want to set up your driver assist options. On occasion I will suggest a
transmission setup. This will be rare since most transmissions have default
settings that work well. It should be assumed that a transmission upgrade will
use the default settings unless otherwise noted. Note that I am not using GT3
save game data, so I will be starting with 10.000 credits.

By following the guide, you will always have enough money to buy the cars and
upgrades that I ask you to buy when I ask you to buy them. You shouldn't have
to race any races more than once, and you shouldn't have to sell any cars.
However, if you want to take advantage of things like the Toyota RSC Rally Raid
Cars '02 265.624 credit selling price, go right ahead. I'll never ask you to
buy used cars, except when it is necessary, because they aren't always
available. I intend for people to be able to reference this guide at anytime
during their GT4 career, and for the cars I list to be available at all times.

This guide is not intended to be the most efficient way to beat the game. Some
people say buying as few cars as possible is the most efficient. Others say
spending the least amount of money is the most efficient. And still others say
that beating the game in as little time as possible is most efficient. This
guide is mainly intended as a reference as to which cars can win in each
particular race, and what upgrades those cars need. The walk through was
included because I needed to play through the entire game in order to compile
the information I needed, so I decided to give some advice as to the order in
which to do all the races. Putting in the walk through also would serve as a
justification for using any particular car instead of another.

Last but not least, I can not guarantee that you will win every race with the
setups I'm suggesting. It is possible that a car will show up in any given
race, that I did not race against myself. For instance, in the Boxer Spirit
race, a Yellow Bird shows up every now and then. The Subaru I used can win the
Boxer Spirit races without the turbo upgrade, but it may not win against the
Yellow Bird. It is possible that I might not have raced against the Yellow
Bird and thus I would not have recommended a turbo upgrade. If you run into
a situation like this, let me know and I'll update this guide with the proper
credit, of course. In general though, you might try getting more upgrades. I
didn't max out the upgrades on many cars at all, so that should work.

Doing this might cause you to run out of money, so I would suggest doing a
rally race or two. Before you spend all your money, consider that you may need
to buy dirt tires for the Toyota Rally Raid car. I didn't recommend getting the
dirt tires for it early on since the money was needed for other races, but
having that car early on did allow for such occurrences as was outlined in the
previous paragraph since you could either just sell the car, or get dirt tires
and do more rally events. I doubt that a problem like this will occur though,
since it would have to happen before money becomes readily available.

Yes, I did loss some races. Case in point, the GR World Championship is near
impossible to complete with just one care. I recommend using a LM Prototype car
and the Formula Gran Turismo in order to secure wins in all the races of that
championship.

MoV = Margin of Victory
This indicates how much faster I completed the race than the second place
finisher.

NP = No pit stop
This only applies on the GT World Championship in the Professional Races.

??? = This means that B-spec Bob finished the race when I wasn't watching, or
I was too into racing the race myself and didn't get a figure before the race
was over. This does mean that I was at least 15 seconds ahead though, since
anything less than that would show up at the end of the race.

The first thing to do is get licensed. We're not going to concern ourselves
with gold or silver prizes, the bronze prizes will do just fine. In order to
start off right, we're going to need the NISMO 270R from the IA License, so try
to get all the way to IA. If you can't get the IA license then I'm sincerely
sorry because you are going to need it to compete in Extreme
races and many more races.

A word of caution, if you are unfortunate enough to have to race against the
AC car, you may want to get a Supercharger and the Racing Brakes. I did race
against the AC car without the Supercharger or the Racing Brakes and obtained
the MoV's you see below. The AC car usually gets pole position, so you may
want to qualify. I however, did not qualify, and the AC car pulled out to a
7.5 second lead at the Ring. It took me half the race just to catch up.

This where we are really going to start putting credits into the bank. I've
done these races out of order because I wanted to get the MINOLTA fast, but
first I challenged myself with a very close match up at Grand Valley.
Obviously, you can do the El Capitan race first and then come back to
Grand Valley and smash the competition with the MINOLTA. As for the El
Capitan race, the Nissan OPTION is tough to handle. A more sterile car for
this race, while still being totally capable of winning easily, is the CIEN.
It is worth noting that the Sarthe II race is widely believed to be best raced
with the Mazda 787B. If you want to spend 3.5 mil credits on that, go ahead.
All I can say is my MoV of 10 laps with the MINOLTA, most of which were
achieved by B-spec Bob, speaks for itself.

Here is an alternate setup using the Black 787B. This car is available in the
used car lot from day 694-700, 1394-1400, and so on and so forth. I'm assuming
that the Mazda 787B Race Car that is available new from the Mazda dealer will
work as well.

In B-spec mode, race all the time at pace 3 and finish the race. 

And some people here (GameFAQs board) did it with a bone stock 787B in
Super-Hard R1 tires and some suspension tuning.

But my setup was a bit different, I used the Black 787B, with an Oil Change,
Turbine Stage 4 (that a lot of people will say is unnecessary, but I think that
in the case of this car it is actually good, since it doesn't increase fuel
consumption to much and gives some extra power), Racing Tires: Hard (R3) Front,
Super-Hard (R1) Rear (as I already stated), all other things were stock: gear
box, suspension, downforce...

I think I won by 2 or 3 laps (and it was 100% in B-spec), I don't remember for
sure because I did it almost 2 years ago (actually I did it about 1 month or so
after getting the game, and I got it in the release day...)

But, if you are racing the entire race A-spec, anything that is a Group C or
LMP car can win it (actually some people won it with RX-8 LM and some other
cars like that, but those cars weren't maxed and their setups were max A-spec
races, so those guys were highly skilled players.

And it's correct to say that the setup will work with both used and new 787B.

Notes: I would recommend getting a new MINOLTA for this race. It would also be
a good idea to hook up with some Nitrous too. I cannot recommend a setup here
that will guarantee a win in all of the races. Winning all races here will
require precise racing skills, preservation of tires, and an excellent
knowledge of the circuits. The Formula Gran Turismo is another option, but
winning at the Speedway and at Sarthe will be extremely difficult.

possible and then hold it. In races such as the Grand Canyon, this is

Note: This is THE hardest one make race in the game. Besides nitrous, I have
put every upgrade onto the car I can think of, besides the suspension upgrade
and the brake controller. Don't hesitate to go for the nitrous, it will
certainly help. If my setup doesn't get the reader a victory here, there are
two things I can recommend. One, practice with the car. This car can definitely
win this series without requiring "perfect" driving skills. Two, tune the car.
I don't know what settings will work for everyone, so try out a few different
things. Id recommend the gtvault.com website for some good setups. Seems like
there are more setups for the Turbo version of this car. If you do decide to go
with the Turbo version, you'll be able to use the setup by Fumes. His setups
are highly recommended. Personally, I went with the non-turbo version because
it has a higher power to weight ratio and a higher torque to weight ratio than
the Turbo version.

At this point, it would be helpful to finish up the license tests. All that
should be needed is a Bronze Super License.

I went ahead and won a new MINOLTA Toyota 88C-V Race Car '89 since the old one
has over 12,000 miles on it. Most of these races are difficult and will require
a good level of racing expertise. I'd recommend B-specing a few of these races.
Notable races to B-spec: the entire Formula GT World Championship, and the last
race of the World Circuit Tour. I used the FGT in the World Circuit Tour. The
FGT can only go a lap and a half at the Nurburgring before the tires get worn,
unless you can get tire comparable to the AI.

Notes: Make sure you qualify for the Nurburgring race. This is one of those
races that will kick you in the pants if you're not careful. Being able to
complete the notorious Mission 34 is not required, since I have not been able
to do so. I spun out three times in this race. The first one was magical!
I did a complete 360 without losing a whole lot of speed. I was hit by the
computer in the middle of my second spin out and that luckily put me back on
course! The third one wasn't so lucky for me. This happened just before the
final straight, and the computer was able to pass me up. Thanks to Nitrous and
a having a faster car, I passed the computer on the straight and won the race.

I don't think it is necessary to change the Transmission Auto setting for the
Test Track, but I do recommend it.

Notes: If you do B-spec this championship, keep the speed setting on 4. It will
take a while for B-spec Bob to get the lead. It would definitely be helpful to
stick around for the pit stops and make a selection from the menu. If you
don't, you will lose a few seconds each pit stop. It is nearly impossible to
win at the Super Speedway. Neither me or B-spec Bob could accomplish that feat.
I'm going to go back there with the MINOLTA Toyota 88C-V Race Car '89. That
will surely guarantee a win.

Havok3595 and the Minimal Buys FAQ

Although this FAQ was written for GT3, it still has some relevant info. In my
opinion, this was the definitive GT3 FAQ as it provided a means to determine
what was the best car for any race. The only drawback was that it didn't
suggest a means for obtaining the cars and didn't suggest any upgrades with
which one could easily win all the races.
