Introduction -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Gauntlet, first appearing in video game arcades about 20 years ago, was an exciting as well as addictive hack and slash game. The game quickly became a classic. Over the years the game has very much matured. The latest addition to the series is Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows. This addition is seemingly shorter then expected. As well as the other Gauntlet games you can play with up to 4 people at once, offline or online. I would say the most exciting part of the game is the story, after you beat a level the ghost of what seems to be an emperor will continue the story. Also if you're looking for some replay-value in this game make sure you have Xbox Live. So if you have patience (this game *will* get very repetitive) then I recommend you buy this game. - Controls A Button - Simple slash attack X Button - Slash attack (breaks defensive barriers) Y Button - Launches opponent in the air B Button - Uses your range attack Black Button - Uses magic-blast White Button - Nothing L Button - Used to block enemy attacks R Button - Used for activating switches Left Analog Stick - Steer/Move Right Analog Stick - Knocks down enemies (doesn't injure them) D-Pad - Special Attack[s] Start Button - Pauses/brings up game menu Back Button - Nothing - Game Basics Game Modes - Beginner, Normal, Difficult, Impossible On-Screen Icons: Facial-Icon - Shows a picture of your character Number Above Facial-Icon - Number of lives you have Red Bar - Displays your health Blue Bar - Displays your mana (regenerates over time) Bubbles Below Blue Bar - Displays how close you are to leveling Armor And Weapon Upgrades - During the game you'll see golden chests, open these to get an armor or weapon upgrade (there are 10 upgrades for each character). You will receive an 11th upgrade once you've gotten to the last level. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- 4. Tips & Strategies -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- - If you get stuck on a part (for example a boss is too hard) then you can (if you have) go on Xbox Live and Level up with some people and return to the boss and attempt to defeat him again or you can replay a level for more expeirience. - When you obtain gold (200 or more) you can buy upgrades, this is recommended but not required. - Breakable objects may contain food. Chests, on the other hand, can contain "Death" (which is a reaper that follows you around until you kill him), gold, or food. - If your a Valkryie/Warrior/Elf then not every monster you defeat must be defeated by melee, if you become overwhelmed with enemies, if you're close to dying, or if you simply feel like it, don't hesitate to use a magic blast or one of your D-pad special abilities. - If you have or can acquire a turbo controller I'd recommend it mainly because all the tapping of the buttons will surely hurt eventually and if you have a turbo controller you can just hold down the button. - If you die be sure you are near a blue light coming out of the ground, those are your spawn points so if you die you'll appear wherever the cloest one is at. - During the game you'll see golden chests, open these to obtain armor/weapon upgrades (there are five of each). - It is wise to put the game in beginner or normal mode. - Don't use your range attack too much because for some odd reason if you kill a monster with range attacks you dont get expeirience. -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- 5. Walkthrough Introduction -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Here is how the Walkthrough Works: Each level is marker with a Roman-Numeral. Walkthrough -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- I. City Under Seige -Cut Scene- After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: A key can be found at the feet of a giant. Use the key to open a passage through the mountain. After you read the help box move forward and destroy the enemy spawn point (the glowing hut). Once that is done you'll encounter another enemy spawn point, destroy it and continue right up the stairs. Upon reaching the top of the stairs you will see some pots (some may contain food) and some chests. Walk a little further and a help box will appear saying: Pull and hold R and walk forward to push the statue. move forward to the glowing circle and follow the instructions. Once you push the statue as far as it will go a golden key will appear, along with some enemies. Grab the key and head back down the stairs to the bottom (Don't turn left on the stairs because it is a dead end). Once you reach the bottom go left to the other path. When you come to a certain point on the path a help box will appear saying: Use a Hack attack X to defeat blocking enemies. walk forward and tap the X button to defeat the blocking enemies. Once you do that another help box will appear saying: Use a projectile attack B to defeat enemies from long range. You can either do as it says and use your range attack on the archers or just melee them. Continue and kill the 2 enemy spawn points then continue half way up the stairs and kill the archer, finish making your way to the top of the stairs. when you reach the top a horde of enemies will be awaiting your arrival, after defeating a few a help box will appear saying: Pull and hold L to block. Some enemies can break your block, leaving you vulnerable for a brief time. You can choose to block as it says but I personally don't block unless its absolutely necessary (goes faster that way). Continue and destroy the 2 enemy spawn points. continue on the path until you see a switch, press R to activate it, opening a stairway to exit the level. Press R once then on the 2nd screen if you leveled up you'll see that you have some points to spend, spend them on whatever of the 3 sections you like (Damage, Mana Regen, and Health). Press R again to see the moves you are able to buy if you have at least 200 gold, some moves are 200 some are 500 gold. once you buy your moves press R once more to go to a screen to save the game. II. Dungeon Passage -Cut Scene- After the cut scene you will see a help box saying: These ancient dungeons pass under the mountain to the plains beyond. You must fight your way through! After you press continue you will be confronted by 4 soldiers, kill them and continue until a help box appears saying: Use a projectile attack B to activate switches you cannot reach. Once you activate the switch a bridge will rise, cross it and another help box will appear saying: Special attacks require mana to use but cause a great deal of damage. Press down on the directional pad to perform your starting special attack. continue and destroy the rest of the spawn points (there are 3 total). Once that is done you will be attacked by 4 soldiers, use the X button to attack them because they will block. Go to the right if you haven't already and open the 3 chests, make sure you time it right or you'll be hurt by the falling bricks. All 3 chests contain 25 gold. continue on to see 3 more soldiers awaiting your arrival. defeat them and destroy the 3 enemy spawn points, watch out for the spinning blades on the walls. After that, defeat the 4 soldiers and continue. A short Cut scene will show a purple-shielded box on the top right of the screen, don't worry about it for now, destroy the enemy spawn points and go to the bottom right of the screen and continue down the path. At the end of the path you will see some enemy spawn points and a golden chest in the middle of your screen, once you defeat the enemy spawn points open the chest. "Death" and the silver key will come out of the chest, use your magic blast (black button) to destroy "Death". Once you have the silver key go back to where you saw the purple-shielded box, use your silver key on the box, grab the magic key, and open the golden chest, you will find your 1st upgrade. Follow the path on the bottom right of your screen again and use your magic key on the purple shield. After that you will see a short Cut scene. defeat the enemies and use your range attack to make the bridge appear. Destroy the enemies, open the 2 chests, and go through the purple crystal to exit the level. Buy whatever you need and save your game. III. Plague Town -Cut Scene- Side note: Here you will fight the 1st of 7 Sorrows. After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: This village lies in the grip of a plague. A force of great evil is at the heart of this devastation! continue on and take the right path, a help box will appear saying: While blocking, press X immediately after being hit to use a powerful counterattack. Timing is the key to counterattacking! Continue down the path and destroy the enemy spawn point. Afterwards continue on until you reach a drawbridge, a help box will appear saying: Pull and hold R until the drawbridge has been lowered. Do as it says and turn the glowing switch, don't worry if enemies attack you while your trying to turn the switch, just try to fend them off long enough to get it down. Continue past the drawbridge and destroy the enemy spawn point. Open the chest next to the spawn point and you'll get 50 gold. Continue along the path killing enemies as you go, eventually you'll reach a fork in the road along with 2 enemy spawn points and a golden chest. Open the golden chest to find your 2nd upgrade. After you open the golden chest open the silver chest to the right of it, "Death" will appear along with a silver key. Once you destroy "Death" and grab the silver key take the north path. During the path you will see some archers on towers and a spawn point, kill the archers using your range attack and destroy the enemy spawn point. Destroy the next enemy spawn point as well, open the chest a little ahead of you to receive 50 gold. If you need food destroy some barrels along the path. Continue along the path defeating enemies and archers as you go, once you've killed a certain amount a short Cut scene will show a magic key, grab it and continue on the path and unlock the purple shield. A Cut scene will show you the 1st of the 7 sorrows, a scarecrow. Afterwards a help box will appear saying: The Emperor's first advisor, changed by your stolen immortality, is the source of the plague. Defeat him to avenge the Emperor's Sorrow. Continue and *immediately* hit the bucket to your right to create lava, this will damage the scarecrow a little bit. The key point is to use magic or range attacks because if you get too close he will hit you (hopefully you still have all 5 of your lives). Press down on the D-pad when your at a safe distance to damage the scarecrow. It'll take roughly 7 or so to kill him, once you've done that a Cut scene will activate showing a golden key. Congratulations you've killed the 1st Sorrow. Continue along the path and grab the golden key, a short cut scene will show a wooden door, continue going left and bring down the drawbridge, continue on that path to where you 1st began, take the right path once again and destroy the enemy spawn points, once you are at the fork in the road, destroy the 2 enemy spawn points then take the right path and unlock the wooden doors using the golden key that you obtained. Go forward to finish the level. Buy your upgrades & save the game. IV. Shipbuilder Village -Cut Scene- After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: The mountain pass leads to the sunken pirate city beyond. Follow the path to continue on your quest. Go down the path and destroy the enemy spawn points, the chest at the end contains 32 gold, open it if you want. Continue on and destroy another enemy spawn point, continue down until you see 2 spinning blades, avoid them and destroy another spawn point, there are a few chests here with gold, get them if you want. go on to destroy 1 more spawn point, when you finally reach the bridge it will say you need to find the switch, time the blades and go past them, once you get past all 3 open the chest at the end to get 32 gold, after that activate the switch and head back to the drawbridge (the blades will stop moving when you activate the switch). Cross the drawbridge and destroy the enemy spawn point that you see, go right and destroy the spawn point that is half way accross the bridge. continue and go down the path and destroy the 2 spawn points, open the 2 chests if you want and continue to the left. Destroy the 2 enemy spawn points here and open the chests for some more gold if you want. Continue left up the bridge, the guys you will encounter now will be a little more difficult but not too much harder than the pirates. Continue on and destroy the 2 enemy spawn points. Keep heading left and destroy yet another enemy spawn point and keep following the path, next you'll have to destroy the 3 enemy spawn points to continue, once you do that a short Cut scene will reveal the end of the level. Upgrade your stuff and save the game. V. Sunken Harbor -Cut Scene- After the cut Scene a help box will appear saying: The sunken city is overrun with pirates! you must pass through to the ancient forest beyond. Follow the path and you'll see 2 enemy spawn points destroy them and go forward until you see 3 chests, open the one on the left and the one on the right to get gold, the center chest is "Death". Keep following the path destroy the enemy spawn point and open the chest for some gold. Take the path going forward and open the chest at the top for 50 gold. Go back down and go left, you'll encounter some archers, quickly kill them and destroy the enemy spawn points, grab some food if you need it. Keep following the path and you'll see some more archers, kill them and open the chest for some gold. take the right path and you'll see 3 chests, once again the left and right chests contain gold the center chest contains "Death". In this next section you should see 2 chests and a switch on the top left, open the chests for gold and activate the switch. The switch will unlock a purple shield, retrace your steps and head back to before you saw the 3 chests. Take the left path this time and you will encounter 2 enemy spawn points, destroy them and open the chest to get some gold. Head forward until your on a concrete pathway. Go left and destroy the enemies you see (you can press the black button to get rid of them all instead of fighting them one by one). Activate the Catapult using the R button. A short Cut scene will show that you've destroyed a house and have created a bridge, take the path going right, keep following it until you encounter some enemies, quickly kill them and go in the ship to see a golden chest, open it to recieve an upgrade, then keep following the path, you'll eventually come to their spawn points, destroy them and you should see 3 chests, this time the 2 chests on the right are gold and the left chest is "Death". Once you've opened the chests keep going right and then go forward when you see an opening. You should see 3 enemy spawn points ahead, destroy them all and open the chests you see for some gold, afterwards activate the catapult to knock down your exit point. Upgrade your stuff and save the game. VI. Ancient Forest -Cut Scene- Side note: Here you will fight the 2nd of 7 sorrows. After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: Foul sorcery is at work, twisting the Ancient Forest into a place of evil. Seek the source of the corruption. Destroy the 2 enemy spawn points and take the north path. Destroy 2 more spawn points and kill the 3 archers, once that is done activate the switch to the wooden gate. On the next section repeat the process. After you pass the 2nd wooden gate continue on the path and destroy the 3 enemy spawn points. If you continue on the path you'll see 2 spawn points and a wooden gate, destroy the spawn points and activate the switch that opens the wooden gate. In this section there are 6 enemy spawn points and 3 archers on each side, defeat the archers and destroy the spawn points and then activate the switch to open the next wooden gate. From here continue along the path until you see 2 enemy spawn points 3 archers, you know what to do. Afterwards open the chests to find a magic key, a short Cut scene will show all the wooden gates closing. Go through the teleport back to the beginning. Head lead and then forward back to the wooden gate, activate the switch and continue on. Here you will find 4 enemy spawn points and a few archers on each side, once you destroy the spawn points and defeat the archers activate the switch to open the wooden gate. Continue on the path until you come to an opening in the fence on your left. Use your magic key on the purple shield and a Cut scene will show the 2nd Sorrow. After the Cut scene a help box will appear saying: The Emperor's betrayer has been twisted into a wild creature! Defeat him to mend the Emperor's next Sorrow. Okay, this boss has minions that will annoy you so what I would recommend is using a magic blast to clear them away for a short while and then use your D-pad special[s] to strike the boss. The boss will occasionally use his powers to suck you to him, quickly run away and wait for him to strike, when he does quickly run up to him and attack him, repeat the process until he is dead, if somehow you die then don't worry the spawn point for you is close by. Once you defeat him a Cut-scene will show him being obliverated, afterwards run up the stairs to complete the level. Congratulations, you've killed the 2nd Sorrow. Upgrade your stuff and save the game. VI. Standing Stones -Cut Scene- After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: The hills are alive with enemies! Fight your way through the standing stones. Afterwards go right and destroy the 3 enemy spawn points, head forward and use the R button to push the glowing boulder, after you've finished pushing the boulder head left. When you are able, go right and destroy the enemy spawn point that you see. Keep goin on the path and in this next section there are 5 enemy spawn points and some chests (a golden chest aswell). Destroy the spawn points and open the chests, once you destroy all 5 spawn points in this section a short Cut scene will show a magic key, quickly grab it and go back to the boulder you pushed and head left. Follow this path destroying spawn points and killing archers as you go. At the end of the path is a purple shield, use your magic key and keep following the path. This next part is a bit tricky, first get rid of the spawn points and the enemies standing on the pillars throwing skeleton scorpions at you. When the coast is clear begin pushing the glowing boulders until all 3 of the blue lines disappear. A short Cut scene will show a boulder falling making a wannabe bridge for you. Before you leave this area you should open the chests for gold. Make your way up the path destroying the enemy spawn points, at the top of the path you will find some huts, destroy the remaining spawn points and open the chests for some gold. You can (if you want) head back to the bottom right before the huts and open the 4 chests for some extra goodies, afterwards go back near the huts and take a left (the path is hard to see, or atleast for me) and follow it. Destroy whatever spawn points you see and open chests along the way, at the end you will (again) have to destroy the spawn points and move the glowing stones on top of the blue lines. Once you have done this task another Cut scene will show another stone falling. Go a little forward and vua-la level completed. Upgrade your stuff with whatever gold you have found and save the game. VIII. Stone Golem -Cut Scene- Side note: Here you fight the 3rd of 7 sorrows. After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: This betrayer has become a great goldem of stone, sustained by the tribal sorcerers. Defeat the sorcerers to destroy the goldem and head the Emperor's Sorrow! Okay, this guy may look tough but truth is he isn't. Just make sure you keep running from him, that way he can't catch you. The main idea of beating this guy is to defeat the sorcerers walking with him (you don't got to defeat the ones on the pillars, if you want to though just make him smash them down). once you defeat enough sorcerers a short Cut scene will show him getting angry(?). After this keep killing the sorcerers and running from him and you'll eventually kill him. IX. Imperial City -Cut Scene- After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: You must fight your way through the Imperial City to the palace beyond! Beware the Imperial defenses. Before you continue down the path turn to your right and range attack the archers on the boat. Next go forward and a description on the top of your screen will say "Find Three Magic Keys!". Go down the right path and follow the path to a treasure chest, open it to find the first magic key and 42 gold. After you open the chest be prepared to fight some soldiers, there are about 10 or so of them. Afterwards head to the center and take the path heading down (to the right of the one you started at). Once again follow it and collect the gold and the key at the end of the path. This time 4 soldiers will meet you at the center, kill them and head down the last path to the left. Once you get the 3rd and last key 4 soldiers will appear, kill them using the X button and continue. At the center kill the last 4 soldiers and unlock the purple shield with the 3 keys you've found. Head forward and destroy the 2 enemy spawn points you see, after that head up the stairs to find 2 more spawn points, quickly destroy them and open the chest at the bottom left for 42 gold. Next head right and you'll be confronted by 3 soldiers, after you defeat them keep going right and you'll see 2 chests, one contains food and one contains 42 gold, after you open the chests go a little left to the stairs you saw and head up them. At the top you'll see a description saying "Destroy The Generators!" (there are 3 of them). Do as it says and destroy the generators. When you are finished the purple shield will vanish allowing you to continue your journey. Head up the stairs and you will find 4 archers on a nearby boat and 2 enemy spawn points, destroy the spawn points and kill the archers (they may respawn). Afterwards open the chets to the left for 42 gold then head on up the stairs. In the middle section of the stairs you'll find a large amount of weak warriors (kinda reminds me of the children that were sent off to conquer jareusalim) kill them with ease and finish making your way up the stairs. At the top you will find (yet again) that you must destroy the 4 generators, upon finishing this task head up the stairs to your left. At the top go through the portal to find a large amount of chests, including 1 upgrade chest. Open all of them to find some gold and some food and a weapon upgrade. After that is done head north past the tree to exit the area. Go left and a description will tell you to destroy the generators once more. Destroy all 7 generators to exit the level. Upgrade your stuff and save the game. X. Imperial Palace -Cut Scene- After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: The legendary might of the Imperial Guard stands between you and the throne room of the palace! In this room you will find 3 enemy spawn points, destroy the one on the left and the one on the top but not the one on the right, flip the 2 switches that appear in the place of the spawn points and open the chest near the portal for some gold, then go through the portal. In the next room a short cut scene and description will appear, the description will say "Trapped! There Must Be A Way Out!" And they are right, there is a way out, first destroy all the spawn points (there are 4) and activate the switches that appear after you destroy a spawn point, once all 4 are activated a book case will turn and a portal will appear, your free! Go through the portal to the next room, in the next room destroy the 3 enemy spawn points and you will be attacked by some Imperial guards (with shiny shields). In the next section repeat the process and destroy the 3 enemy spawn points, once again a large group of Imperial soldiers will test your might, after you kill them continue on. Okay this part is sort of a decision to make, you can either kill all the enemy spawn points (3 will reveal a portal) and take the portals to recieve 100 gold each, or you can just move the glowing statue and make a quick escape, if you need gold I suggest the first way, if not then take the 2nd. When you move the glowing statue a secret escape door will open revealing a chest and a portal, do not open the chest ("Death" will appear). Go through the portal and you will exit the area. This area I like to call the "training area" An infinite amount of (what appear to be) disfigured goblins will come at you, a short description tells you to find the magic key, destroy the fence looking walls to find chests in one of those chests (on the right side) contains the key, the other one on the right is some gold (on the left side is "Death" and some food). Once you grab the key unlock the purple shield and go through the portal to the next room. In this room you have another choice, turn 3 wheels or turn one, if you decide to turn all 3 you will be able to access the 2 chests on top and earn 800 gold in one and in the golden chest "Death" will appear. However if you choose to only activate one and leave the gold behind then turn the one near the skeleton head and an exit will appear showing you the end of the level. Once your done upgrade your stuff and save the game. XI. Throne Room -Cut Scene- Side note: Here you will fight the 4th of 7 Sorrows. After the cut scene a help box will appear saying: (this guide is about 75% complete) -~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- 8.
