INTRODUCTION - G0400 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= Hello! I am Damir Kolar and I welcome you to my thirteenth FFX-2 related project. For this guide I've chosen to cover Bikanel Digging. In the horde of FAQs already up for FFX-2 none has digging stuff covered. So let's cover that hole, shall we? There's more to digging that simple collecting stuff, assemblies, coins etc. Digging is important for mascot (Djose EPCOM, in particular), to expand your Sphere Break coin collection and some other things. And, there are people that want to get max payrise, but perhaps fail to do work ethics test. I will include all of that and more information in the guide you're reading. Hopefully all of you questions regarding digging will be answered. Without further Cactuar needles, welcome to my Bikanel Digging guide. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= 05.) READ THIS FIRST! - G0500 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= That's right, you should read this first. In this section I'll tell you some of the most basic information you should know when attempting digging. # CASE 1 To even be able to dig, first you need LETTER OF INTRODUCTION KEY ITEM you receive from Gippal in Djose Temple. You can get this letter either in CH1 or in CH2. When you get to Djose, a scene introducing Gippal will unfold. Now stand at the end of the line of people near the structure on the right and wait patiently. Once grey-robed man goes inside, follow suit. Inside talk to the guy behind the counter - access to Djose temple is granted. Inside view the scene, then go outside the temple and go north. When asked a question, reply [We're sure.] and letter is yours. # CASE 2 - CH1 If you're still in CH1, Bikanel becomes a hotspot now, so go there. Once you make it to the camp, trigger a scene in upper-right corner by talking to the guy you find here. After that find two male Al Bheds that are 'talking' to each other, talk to them both and then address them again. You'll see another scene, where Nhadala will come flying on some machine. She's now pacing back and forth on right of the screen. Talk to her and choose [I've got this letter...] to start the mission. For details what you must do look into section 6. # CASE 3 - CH2 If you neglected to go to Bikanel in CH2, you will have to go in this CH cos of certain storyline mission. You will find Nhadala in upper right corner straight away. Talk to her and choose [I've got this letter...]. When she briefs you on situation, try to go away from her - she'll stop you and ask you to go investigate the Oasis. Now talk to hover pilot to start the mission, which is fairly simple - just go forward, pick up a sphere, and defeat the boss. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= 06.) CAN YOU DIG IT? - G0600 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= Use this section as a quick reference to what you can do in single session of digging. RULE 01: A digging session lasts 60 seconds. Not a second longer, not a second shorter. RULE 02: Your objective is to seek out yellow cross on the minimap and to get the treasure buried at this spot before your opposition claims it. Note that sometimes Yuna's the only digger in the area (more details below). Treasure beneath yellow cross will be one of three possible assemblies or Scrap Metal. More info on assemblies in section 10. All that you have to do to dig out the treasure is stand on top of the cross and Yuna will dig automatically. RULE 03: Beside yellow cross, there are four additional white crosses scattered across the map. The treasure buried here is optional, but should be hunted for nevertheless. Treasure beneath white cross will be either: item, gil, Sphere Break coin, accessory, or a key item. Sometimes you get to fight fiends. All that you have to do to dig out the treasure is stand on top of the cross and Yuna will dig automatically. RULE 04: Sometimes a differently colored cross might appear. For more details refer to section 7. RULE 05: Once you excavate yellow cross treasure, make your way back to the hover before time limit expires! If you're too late, Yuna falls on the ground exhausted. Game Over... or is it? Kidding. Anyway, should time limit expire, you *lose* the yellow cross treasure, but you get to keep any white cross treasures you dug out. RULE 06: Besides possible Al Bhed opposition, you're almost never alone when digging. There's fiends to be fought here as well. Unless you wear Charm Bangle, there are going to be random battles when you run for the crosses. But even with Charm Bangle you're not completely safe - rarely a white cross might initiate a battle against fiends. And there's still more - sometimes when dig starts, screen will flash red after 5 secs have passed and Picket will go blaring about unidentified object approaching. Unless you're in CH5 and have already got EPCOM for Bikanel, you're about to face off against Angra Mainyu, rather powerful fiend that resides in the desert. If fought in CH1, Angra does nothing - in CH2 one of its arms becomes active, and in CH3 you have to deal with whole trio. Angra will be shown as red arrow on the minimap closing in on your position about 10 seconds before time limit expires. Fight can end in three ways: either you escape; hold your ground for 60 seconds, at which point Angra will eject your party; or kill it alltogether (possible only with supreme accessories like Cat Nip and Iron Duke). In latter case Angra will simply respawn. Finally, Angra can only be permanently killed in CH5. After that point, if Picket blares about objects approaching, expect to square off against some simple enemies (Fly Eye + Killer Hound, Pop Fry or Zu). RULE 07: Once you return from digging session (successful or not), results will be displayed. Total Digs, followed by successful digs, then failed digs - and at the bottom your digging rank will be displayed. RULE 08: Digging Rank can be: - Sandbox League (starting rank) - Beach Comber (if flawless, after 15 successful digs) - Sand Blaster (if flawless, after 30 successful digs) - Zen Master of Digging (if flawless, after 60 successful digs) RULE 09: After certain amount of digs your success up to this point will be evaluated. If amount of successful digs is superior to amount of failed digs, your Digging Rank is raised by one level. The numbers of digs will be assessed after 15, 30, 60, 120, 150 and 180 digs. If you have more successful digs than failed digs, your rank will be increased by one level (unless you're already the top rank). If after 180 digs, you still have not reached the top rank, you will be unable to do so. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= 07.) AVAILABLE AREAS - G0700 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= In this section you will be able to find an overview of all the possible areas you can dig at. DIG AREA | CHAPTERS | WHEN AVAILABLE? | ALONE? | FIENDS? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- WESTERN | 1-2-3-5 | After 'Can you dig it?' | Nope | Yep EXPANSE | | mission | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOUTHERN | 2-3-5 | After 'Water we doing here?' | Yep | Yep EXPANSE* | | mission | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- EASTERN | 3-5 | Start 'The Cactuar Connection' | Yep | Yep EXPANSE** | | mission | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- NORTHERN | 3-5 | Start 'The Cactuar Connection' | Yep | Yep EXPANSE***| | mission | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CENTRAL | 5 only | Send any level chocobo from | Nope | Nope EXPANSE | | the choc-ranch to Bikanel | | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- * - If you handed O'aka over to Al Bhed as a result of O'aka hunting mission in MacWoods, go dig here during CH2 or CH3, but BEFORE you do 'Protect the Agency' subquest in MacWoods in CH3. Sometimes a green cross will appear, so go there and examine it. Why, it's O'aka! After the scene allow him to come onboard Celsius. ** - Sometimes you'll come across green cross in this area. When examined, YRP are forced into series of battles against machine fiends. Piece of cake. *** - When you go here for the very first time, you'll have to win a battle against Zu. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= 08.) TREASURE! TREASURE! - G0800 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= I'll list the name of the area. First line that appears below is called 'Assembly frequency'. For example: take a look at Western Expanse. You'll see that Attack Ass. is listed first. This means that you have fairly good chances you'll run into Attack Ass. when you dig at yellow cross. Defense Ass. has second highest chances, with Special being dead last. This will be followed by item checklists. I'll separate coins in their own entry, so that you won't get confused. With this, let us go underway. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- WESTERN EXPANSE ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASSEM. DIGGING PAYRISE FAQ - G0900 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= Inside Djose temple, right entrance to 'Living quarters', there's a machine you can examine and apply for greater wages. Wage is amount of gil you receive after each successful dig. Once you apply for payrise, you must answer six questions, which are randomly chosen from an assortment of 60 questions pertaining to work ethics. If your answers prove you're thinking well (ie you gained enough points from the 'pop-quiz'), your pay will be raised (amount of successful digs you've taken x 5 = payrise). But if you fail, then all future applications will be denied. You can only apply again after making three further successful digs. Each CH of the game (except CH4, where you can't do any digging) starts your wages at lowest minimum. By successfully answering work ethics questions, you can keep increasing your pay up to a certain maximum, which again depends on what CH you're in. Refer to the chart below to see all those details. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CH | STARTING | MAXIMUM | POINTS NEEDED | SALARY | SALARY | TO PASS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 | 100 | 150 | 5+ 2 | 150 | 300 | 7+ 3 | 200 | 400 | 8+ 5 | 300 | 850 | 11+ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Still, all this info won't do any good, if you don't know the best answers to give to each of sixty questions. Below chart takes care of that for you. Muchas gracias to everyone who sent in information about point distribution. EXTRA STUFF - G1000 ============================================================================= ============================================================================= EXTRA STUFFING 1 So, just what exactly are all those assemblies for? Here's the answer: In CH5, when you visit Djose temple, you'll be asked to take on Al Bhed's mighiest machina they've ever created. Yeah right. Anyway, choose whatever. What you must aim for is bringing Experiment's Attack, Defense and Special levels to 5. You do that by going to Bikanel and digging at yellow crosses. Each assembly you dig out is automatically inserted into Experiment. Use two charts below to help you configure just how far you must go. CHART 1 | CHART 2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASSEMBLY TYPE Z is worth 5 PTS | 0 - 3 PTS warrant Lv1 ASSEMBLY TYPE S is worth 3 PTS | 4 - 9 PTS warrant Lv2 ASSEMBLY TYPE A is worth 1 PTS | 10 - 19 PTS warrant Lv3 | 20 - 37 PTS warrant Lv4 | 38+ PTS warrant Lv5 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you wonder how many of each assembly type you've found so far, go examine the monitor in right 'Living quarters' inside Djose temple and pick the option which allows you to view assemblies collected. EXTRA STUFFING 2 And what about Desert Key you've dug out in Central Expanse? You know the chubby guy walking around locked chest in the Al Bhed Camp? Now that you have the key, you can unlock the chest and obtain Horn of Plenty GG. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= 11.)
